The contact owns a 2012 Volvo S60. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and parked on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle but it was unable to be restarted. The contact stated the vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V592000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
I had the car about 3 months from a dealership. I was driving through the hills near my house, at first no problem. After about 4 turns or so this red light would come on saying something like low oil pressure and the car would stall a bit til I was out of the turn. Didn’t say anything about needing oil or anything. I would have gone straight to a gas station had there been one. My only option was to turn around when I could at the bottom of the hill and go back. The car did the same thing on the way back. I got the car home without further problems parked it and planned to have it checked out first thing when a drove the car again. A couple days went by I decided it was time to have the car checked out. Got in the car started the car and the car started making an extreme rattling noise. I thought maybe something came loose I popped the hood and the rattling increased the the car stalled and stopped running before I got a chance to have it checked out. I started looking on line and found that the were hundreds of people with this same year make and model that the same happened to them . I tried to get my insurance to pay for it but they wouldn’t go for it. I went back online and learned that this issue is something Volvo knew about for many years and said it was limited to models 2012 with vin62 which my car is but only for like a three month period of time during 2012 . I thought they are obviously trying to limit the amount of responsibility they have to people like me who unknowingly purchased a Volvo expecting to have a quality car that would last many years. If you read the hundreds of blogs from people who’s cars engines failed exactly the way Volvo said of the cars Volvo was willing to recall and repair because it is Volvo’s responsibility to do so. I got lucky that the engine didn’t fail as I was driving through the hills. I and others could’ve been hospitalized or killed Thanks to Volvo only informing a very limited few of this issue
I was driving on my way back home. When my car started to knock. As I was slowing down to pull over. My oil pressure light came on. Granted, the reason was unknown. I had just recently checked the oil level. I got out to check the dipstick to find smoke coming out where the dipstick was. Curious as I was, I had no oil which left me puzzled. After some research, I found that my car had a recall on it for oil consumption. I called and asked a rep if they could verify if my vehicle was serviced for the issue. But without a doubt, he said it was. I just want to know if the problem was fixed. I currently can't crank my vehicle. I even dug into it myself and found that I had a bad starter nd battery. After replacing the two. I still can't get my vehicle to turn over. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Volvo arrived at the hiking trailhead parking lot at approximately 10 miles an hour, slowed down more to select parking space then turn right into space in front of a cement outhouse. Space had a cement parking block. As the car was about to come to a complete stop in the space, it suddenly accelerated on its own as if the accelerator was press all the way overcoming the cement block and crashing into the outhouse. Both driver and passenger airbags were deployed. The driver never took the foot off the brake when the car accelerated. The automated braking system never deployed. Prior to the accident, the low battery warning light was on but the battery was checked out by a professional to be fully charged. We walk away from the accident bruised with back and chest pains from the seat belt but considered ourselves lucky. Had we not parked with a cement outhouse five feet in front of us two spaces over, we would have accelerated into an open field and into a forest of trees.
I was on my was home from work and I Engine Started to malfunction In the middle of the street I got help to push out of the street waited a few minutes and it started back up thank God it got me home but now I’m still having problems
APRIL B2021. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY VEHICLE STALLED . I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT THE CAR FEARFUL OF MY SAFETY I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A VOLVO DEALERSHIP WHICH REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR. SO I GOT IT TOWED TO A CERTIFIED SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT TWO CYLINDERS LOST PRESSURE AND I NEED A REPLACEMENT MOTOR. WHAT? I NEVER RECEIVED ANY WARNING LIGHTS , NO LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT. I FOLLOWED THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. HOW IS THIS . I'VE CONTACTED VOLVO AMERICA AND AM WAITING. I FIND IT STRANGE THAT THE VOLVO THAT I'VE BEEN USING FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS SUDDENLY REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE CAR. I'M LEARNING THAT SEIZED ENGINES IN THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL IS COMMON RIGHT AROUND 100,000 MILES.
WINDSHIELD SEPARATING FROM THE CAR AT THE TOP. POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS FROM WATER RUNNING DOWN THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT CAN NOT BE CLEARED EXCEPT BY HAND WHILE DRIVING. ALSO LIKELY TO CAUSE WATER DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR!

MY CAR HAS WATER IN THE LEFT BACK DOOR, AND I AM CERTAIN IT IS FROM THE RECALL OF THE LOCKS. I USE TO PARK IN MY GARAGE AND THE CAR IS NO LONGER GARAGE KEPT AND IT HAS RAINED A LOT. I CAN HEAR THE WATER SWISHING AROUND WHEN I STOP THE CAR. I WANT TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE RECALL LOCKS. WATER IS SATURATED IN THE BACK SEATING THE DRIVER'S SIDE.
SIRIUS RADIO MODULE FAILURE CAUSE CONTROL AND DISPLAY OF BACK UP CAMERA, NAVIGATION, HANDS FREE PHONE, AND RADIO TO STOP WORKING.
EXTREMELY HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION WAS EVENTUALLY DIAGNOSED BY DEALER AS DUE TO FAULTY PISTON RINGS, WHICH WERE REPLACED AT A HIGHLY-DISCOUNTED COST ON 1/17/20 AT 100,573 MILES. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON 1/16/21 (MILEAGE WAS THEN ABOUT 105,000 MILES) I GOT AN ALERT THAT THERE WAS NO OIL PRESSURE AND CAR SHOULD BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. AFTER STOPPING, I DETERMINED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS IN THE NORMAL ZONE. I THEN TALKED TO THE DEALER, WHO SAID HE THOUGHT IT WAS AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE AND THAT I COULD DRIVE THE CAR HOME. LESS THAN 20 MILES LATER, AN ALERT SAID THE ENGINE WAS SHUTTING DOWN, AND THE CAR LIMPED TO A STALL AT THE SIDE OF A FREEWAY EXIT. CAR COULD NOT BE STARTED, AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER HAS ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED.
THE CAR DISPLAYED A LOW OIL WARNING, SO I CHECKED AND THE OIL WAS A LITTLE LOW SO I ADDED A QUART. THE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. THE NEXT DAY, SAME THING HAPPENED, BUT OIL LEVEL WAS FULL. THE LIGHT AGAIN WENT OUT. LATER THAT DAY, THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME BACK ON, SO I PULLED OVER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. DECIDED TO CHANGE THE OIL, AND SAW METAL SHAVING IN THE FILTER. I DISASSEMBLED THE ENGINE AND METAL WAS EVERYWHERE. THE CULPRIT WAS A SHATTERED OIL PUMP, WHICH SPEWED METAL ALL INTO THE CRANKSHAFT AND BEARINGS. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE FOUND NUMEROUS CASES SIMILAR TO MINE, WHERE THE ENGINE BLEW WITH NO TYPE OF WARNING OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THIS WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE OIL PUMP THAT BREAKS DOWN AND SHATTERS INSIDE THE ENGINE BLOCK, CAUSING METAL TO ENTER THE ENGINE AND DESTROY IT.
CAR NEVER WARNED OF LOW PRESSURE OR OIL LOW. CAR STARTED TO SHIMMY AND BLOW WHITE SMOKE. IT CAN NO LONGER BE DRIVEN. PISTON HEADS BLEW DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICATION.WILL COST APPROX 7 TO 8 THOUSAND TO FIX.
RECALL NOTICE ON 11/2019 TO REPLACE ALL DOORS DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE (RECALL #: R89978: DOOR LATCHES). RECENTLY ON 12/1/2019, 12/23/2019 AND 1/5/2020 I NOTICED THAT MY REAR RIGHT DOOR SLIGHTLY OPENED WHILE CITY DRIVING IN SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD (LOTS OF STOPS) AND THE DOOR SIGNAL DID NOT INDICATE. THEY DID NOT FULLY OPEN BUT THE LATCH SEEMS TO HAVE AN ISSUE. HAVE BEEN REACHING OUT TO SERVICE AND VOLVO DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS NEEDED.
AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND THEN IT TURNED OFF I WAS UNABLE TO TURN ON MY HAZARDS TO WARN OTHER DRIVERS OR PULL OVER TO THE SIDE, AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND I PUT THE CAR IN P AND STARTED IT AGAIN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN LATER ON THE SAME DAY.

2012 VOLVO 60, NEEDS NEW ENGINE. VOLVO STATES ITS NOT WORTH REPAIRING AT 81K MILES. VIN # [XXX] THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED IN 2015 FROM BILL GRAY VOLVO, 2897 MURRYSVILLE ROAD PENNSYLVANIA, 15317 I BOUGHT A CERTIFIED 2012 VOLVO S60 T5, VIN # [XXX] IN 2005 FROM A DEALER IN PITTSBURGH, PA, WITH 17/K. I MAINTAINED THE CAR, WITH ALL THE REQUIRED SERVICE. THE CAR DRIVES RUNS WELL, THE CHECK ENGINE WAS ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT FOR A STATE INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD IT HAD INTERNAL ENGINE ISSUES: MIS-FIRING, NO COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER # 1 AND LOW COMPRESS ON #2 CYLINDER. I WAS TOLD IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. IT'S WELL UNDER THE 100K WARRANTY, WITH ONLY 82/K MILES BUT OVER THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. I WAS TOLD REPLACING THE ENGINE IS NOT AN OPTION BECAUSE IT WILL COST 13K EVEN A USED ENGINE WILL NOT WORK. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
MY CAR DOESN'T NOTIFY ME THAT THE ENGINE OIL IS LOW. LAST YEAR, I DROVE ALL THE WAY TO MISSISSIPPI WITHOUT IT WARNING THAT THE OIL WAS LO WITH BARELY ANY OIL ON THE DIP STICK. WE STOPPED TO CHECK IT WHEN WE GOT GAS AND THAT IS HOW WE KNEW. IT HAS BEEN LOW SEVERAL TIMES THIS YEAR WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK THE OIL TO ENSURE THERE IS ENOUGH IN THERE. IT DOES NOT HAVE AN OIL LEAK AS THERE IS NO OIL ON THE CONCRETE. I HAVE CHECKED WITH THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY CAR IN REFERENCE TO LOW OIL BUT THERE SHOULD BE. I COULD HAVE BLOWN MY ENGINE
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES WITH EXTERIOR BODY PAINT, COMPLAINED TO VOLVO AND SHOWED IT TO DEALER AS PER THEIR ADVISE, DEALER AGREED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE THERE WITH LIMITED MILES AND MAINLY LOCAL DRIVING WITH THIS CAR. SCRATCHES ALL OVER THE BODY AND THIS WAS THERE WITH IN 4 YEARS OF CAR AND I HAVE TRIED DETAILING THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO HELP TO REMOVE SCRATCHES. WHILE AT DEALERSHIP, RAN IN TO DEALER EMPLOYEE AND ANOTHER CUSTOMER WITH SIMILAR ISSUE FOR 2012 VOLVO S60. VOLVO REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SAYING IT'S OUTSIDE WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP TOOK PICTURES AND AGREED THAT THIS IS DUE TO SOME UNDERLYING PAINT ISSUES, THEY WOULDN'T PUT IT IN WRITING AND LET VOLVO MANAGE THE COMPLAINT. NEED SOME HELP TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS IT IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN VOLVO ADMITS. I JUST NEED PAINT REPLACEMENT AND NOT EXPECTING ANY FINANCIAL COMPENSATION. ATTACHING PICTURES AND CAN PROVIDE MORE IF NECESSARY (REFLECTION DUE TO LIGHT, PLEASE ZOOM IN AND YOU WILL SEE THE 2 INCHES LONG STREAKS AND WHITE SPECKLES ALL OVER). THERE WAS ONE INCIDENT THAT MY CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WOULD STALL FOR A BIT AND WHEN I TRIED TO MAINTAIN THE SAME SPEED I WAS GOING AT, I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND THE SPEED WOULD NOT CHANGE, IT CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND PUT MY CAR ON PARK. THIS WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO CHECK THE RPM, TO SEE IF THE GAS WAS WORKING. THE RPM WOULD GO UP EVERY TIME I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. FROM THERE, I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND ON, AND TRIED TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. ONCE I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TURNED ON. I MANAGED TO GET HOME FROM WORK DRIVING ON THE LEFT LANE AND AT A SLOW SPEED. THAT IS WHEN I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY MECHANIC. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE MECHANIC HAD FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY FUEL PUMP, THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, I HAD FOUND OUT THAT THE NHTSA HAD REPORTED A RECALL WITH THE SAME ISSUE FOR THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR OF MY CAR (HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/RCL/2011/RCDNN-11V303-8835.PDF). I SEARCHED MY VIN NUMBER TO SEE IF MY CAR FELL UNDER THE RECALL PERIOD LISTED ON THE WEBSITE, AND IT HAD REPORTED ONLY A DOOR LATCH ISSUE AND NOT THE FUEL PUMP. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER INTO THE ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP, MORE SPECIFICALLY, DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE TIME PERIOD FOR ISSUE STATED UNDER THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED EVEN FURTHER. *TR

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BETWEEN OIL CHANGE INTERVALS. SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR (2/1/2016) I HAVE USED FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL (CASTROL). OIL LEVEL SLOWLY DROPS BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES. PRIOR TO THE LAST SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE (1/10/2020) I CHECKED THE OIL IT IT WAS VERY DANGEROUSLY LOW. THERE ARE NOT ( AS CERTIFIED BY ASE AUTO TECH AND CONFIRMED) NO EXTERNAL OIL LEAKS OR EVIDENCE OF OIL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THIS CAR NOW HAS 84.000 MILES ON IT AND I'M AFRAID THAT IT WILL DAMAGE ITSELF EVEN ON THE SHORT COMMUTE MY WIFE HAS TO WORK. I CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE OIL LEVEL NOW ALMOST DAILY. I FEEL THIS IS (DAILY OIL CHECK) ABSURD AS CLEARLY, PER THE OWNERS MANUAL, DOES NOT NOR SHOULD NOT REQUIRE CHECKING AND REFILLING OIL THIS OFTEN. THE CAR HAS SHOWN THIS PATTERN OF LUBRICANT CONSUMPTION SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. THE TAILPIPES HAVE ALWAYS HAD A HEAVY DEPOSIT OF CARBON SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT "VOLVOS RUN DIRTY' AND THAT IT WAS NOT OF ANY CONCERN. NOW THAT I SEE A TECHNICAL JOURNEL AND TSB CLEARLY INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH MY SPECIFIC CAR, THIS EXPLAINS WHY. I UNDERSTAND THE FACT IN 2012 VOLVO ASSEMBLY SWITCHED MOTOR TYPES (62 TO 63?) DURING MIDRUN. INDICATIVE OF A PROBLEM OR ISSUE. I BELIEVE MY AUTO WAS INVOLVED. IT IS THE AUTO MAKER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE A SAFE AUTOMOBILE WITH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE (OR PM) REQUIRED. THE CONDITION MY WIFE AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING IS CLEARLY NOT NORMAL FOR ANY AUTO MAKER AND EVIDENTLY HAS EXISTED SINCE IT LEFT THE ASSEMBLY LINE. I ASK ONLY FOR THE AUTOMAKER TO STAND BEHIND THEIR OWN TSB FLAW, PERFORM THE WORK NEEDED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE ALL PART/PARTS NEEDED TO RESOLVE THEIR TSB FOR MY AUTO. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN REVIEW.
THE SENSUS/NAVIGATION SYSTEM IS PLAGUED WITH BUGS. FREQUENTLY MY BLUETOOTH FAILS TO CONNECT, AUDIO RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING FOR ALL SATNAV/RADIO FUNCTIONS, SOMETIMES THE SCREEN FAILS TO LOAD UP AT ALL. ALL SEEMS TO HAPPEN COMPLETELY RANDOMLY. SOME DAYS RADIO FUNCTIONS GREAT BUT SOME DAYS I CAN NOT LISTEN TO ANY AUDIO AT ALL. SOME DAYS MY PHONE CONNECTS TO BLUETOOTH WITHOUT ME EVEN TRYING TO CONNECT, AND SOME DAYS THE SATNAV RADIO DOES NOT CONNECT AT ALL. I HAVE EVEN GONE AS FAR AS TO RESET ALL NETWORK SETTINGS ON MY IPHONE AND REMOVE THE IPHONE FROM THE RECENT DEVICE LIST; STILL THE PHONE WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE CAR. THE ONLY THING I HAVE EVER SEEN 'FIX' THIS PROBLEM IS TO STOP THE CAR, GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WALK MORE THAN 20FT AWAY FROM THE CAR, LOCK THE CAR, AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES; UNLOCK, ENTER AND START VEHICLE; AND SUDDENLY IT WORKS AGAIN.
THE CAR SUFFERS FROM HIGH ENGINE CONSUMPTION, ENGINE OIL RUNS OUT PRIOR TO OIL CHANGE INTERVALS WITH NO EVIDENCE OF OIL LEAKS OR OIL BURNING). THIS CAN CAUSE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THE HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY THE DEALER AND SHARED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. VOLVO HAS EVEN ISSUED A TECHNICAL JOURNAL THAT ATTRIBUTES THE CAUSE TO FAULTY PISTON O-RINGS. MANUFACTURER DIDN'T ISSUE A RECALL AND REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE SEVERAL SIMILAR CASES DESCRIBED IN VOLVO FORUMS AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS, THAT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COOPERATION FROM VOLVO.
2012 VOLVO S60. VIN: [XXX] . ON OR ABOUT 09/09/2019, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC TO REPAIRER/REPLACE THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH/LOCK, WHICH HAD FAILED. THIS FAILURE PREVENTED ALL LOCKING AND LATCHING SAFETY FEATURES TO OPERATE. THIS CAUSED THE DOOR TO NOT LATCH OR LOCK ALLOWING THE DOOR TO OPEN DURING ANY TURN. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE MECHANIC'S SHOP THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK/LATCH FAILED IN THE SAME WAY. UPON REMOVAL OF THE PART IT WAS FOUND TO BE A FORD PART, NOT A VOLVO PART. THE MECHANIC CONTACTED VOLVO AND WAS ADVISED THAT VOLVO WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURES BUT IT HAD NOT BEEN MADE PUBLIC AND NO RECALL WAS IN AFFECT. A COMPLAINT WAS MADE BY ME TO VOLVO CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A VOLVO DEALERSHIP. ALL INSTRUCTIONS WERE FOLLOWED. A VIDEO WAS MADE BY ME WITH MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER USING THE CAMERA IN A PARKING LOT. THIS VIDEO ILLUSTRATES THE UNSAFE DOOR LOCK/LATCH AND IT'S EXTREME DANGER TO THE PUBLIC AT LARGE, INCLUDING ANY PERSON THAT OWNS THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. UPON THE LATCH/LOCK FAILURE, THE DOOR(S) ARE ALLOWED TO OPEN FREELY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THE AUTO AND MANUAL ELECTRIC LOCKS WILL NOT ENGAGE. THIS COULD CAUSE AN EJECTION OF THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER OR OCCUPANTS DURING EVEN A SLIGHT TURN. IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION THIS WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSE THE EJECTION OF THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER AND OR OCCUPANTS. IF THE DOOR OPENS WHILE IN MOTION THE DOOR COULD STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THIS DOOR LATCH/LOCK SHOULD BE RECALLED ON ALL VOLVO'S OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL FOR THE SAFETY OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND REPLACED WITH AN AUTHORIZED VOLVO PART THAT IS CERTIFIED AS SAFE. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER DOOR LATCHES/LOCKS HAVE NOT BEEN EVALUATED AT THIS TIME. *JS PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
DOOR LATCH AND LOCK FAILURE TO BOTH FRONT DOORS. PASSENGER DOOR LATCH/LOCK PASSENGER DOOR FAILED TO LOCK OR KEEP DOOR CLOSED WHILE IN MOTION. ONE WEEK LATER THE DRIVER'S DOOR LATCH/LOCK FAILED IN SAME WAY, WHICH ALLOWED DOORS TO FLY OPEN DURING A TURN WHILE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND IN MOTION. ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT ENGAGE. OPENING DOORS COULD BE STRUCK BY PASSING VEHICLES ENDANGERING LIVES OF OCCUPANTS. OCCUPANTS COULD BE THROWN OUT OF DOORS WHEN TURNING. UNABLE TO SECURE THE VEHICLE WHEN UNOCCUPIED. BOTH DOOR LATCHES ARE FORD PRODUCTS INSTALLED IN A VOLVO VEHICLE. SUBSTANDARD SAFETY DEVICE INSTALLED ON VEHICLE'S DOORS. NEARLY ENDLESS LIST OF SAFETY HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT. VOLVO IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND FAILED TO DISCLOSE THE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC OR OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL VOLVO, CAUSING THE OWNER OR OPERATOR TO BE UNAWARE OF THE POSSIBLE FATAL SAFETY HAZARD. VOLVO WAS CONTACTED BY THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC UPON REPLACING THE PART AND WAS ADVISED BY VOLVO THEY WERE AWARE OF THE DOOR LATCH/LOCK DEFECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL SQUEAKING NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE MAY BE A FAILURE WITH A BELT OR PULLEY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SQUEAKING NOISE AND THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ENGINE COVERED WAS REMOVED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE DRIVE BELT, TIMING BELT, AND PULLEY WERE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V303000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,055.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED, THE LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATES I NEED TO SERVICE MY AIRBAG IMMEDIATELY. THE AIRBAG HAS NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. VOLVO SERVICE SAYS I NEED TO PAY TO REPLACE IT WHEN ITS NEVER BEEN USED.
THE OIL WAS CHANGED AT 85,000 MILES. AT APPROXIMATELY 90,000 MILES, THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT FLASHED ON AND IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARED WHEN MAKING TURNS. THE SENSOR LIGHT DID NOT REMAIN ON THE DASHBOARD. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF OIL LEAKING. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, THE ENGINE BEGAN KNOCKING. THE OIL LEVEL WAS CHECKED AND WAS LOW. OIL WAS ADDED TO THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE VOLVO DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS SHOWED DURING THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. THE ENGINE WAS STARVED OF OIL AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE MENTIONED THAT FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR, NEW VEHICLE OWNERS THAT STILL HAD A WARRANTY WERE ASKED TO COME IN AND HAVE PISTON O-RINGS REPLACED BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. WE WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE.
DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR DISENGAGED WHILE TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY ACCESS RODE WITH PASSENGERS IN THE BACK, THE REAR PASSENGER NEARLY FELL OUT OF THE CAR. THE DOOR NO LONGER LATCHES WHICH CREATES A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, MAKING ME UNABLE TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE.
PURCHASED THIS VOLVO A FEW MONTHS AGO HAD IT FOR A WEEK AND IT BROKE DOWN WHILE IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY IT WAS TOWED TO VOLVO OF ROANOKE, VA. THEY TOLD ME THE IDLER PULLEY SEIZED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JUMP TIME. THEY REPLACED THE DIVE BELT AND PUT THE VEHICLE BACK IN TIME AND TOLD ME THE VEHICLE WAS GOOD TO GO. (THEY CHARGED ME $1,000) I DOVE IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THIS TIME THAT THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND GAVE ME NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY. (THEY SAID THEY WOULD PUT A USED ENGINE IN WITH 130K MILES FOR $10,000) I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENTLY OWNED VOLVO REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OVER. THEY ALSO AGREE THAT THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND SAID THAT THE VALVES ARE BENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V592000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
IN AUGUST OF THIS PAST YEAR MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN AS MY WIFE AND I MADE A TURN. THE MECHANIC THAT I HAD IT TOWED TO SAID THE ENGINE WAS THREE QUARTS LOW AND WAS GETTING NO COMPRESSION AND YET NO CHECK OIL INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON. I SPENT $6,000 ON A USED ENGINE. THURSDAY OF LAST WEEK THE SAME THING HAPPENED EXCEPT I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT. I AGAIN HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE IS NOT GETTING ANY COMPRESSION. I THEN CALLED VOLVO WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME SINCE I HADN'T TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO A DEALER. I EXPLAINED THAT I LIVE OVER AN HOUR AWAY FROM THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP AND ITS NOT FEASIBLE FOR ME TO TAKE MY CAR IN. I'M AFRAID TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ON A USED ENGINE ONLY TO HAVE IT SEIZE UP ON ME WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS THE SECOND ENGINE IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND SAW THAT VOLVO HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR CERTAIN 2012 S60 IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, SO I AM NOT SURE IF THIS VEHICLE WAS PART OF THAT RECALL OR NOT. I HAVE WAITED MY WHOLE LIFE TO OWN A VOLVO. HOWEVER, I CAN NOT IN GOOD CONSCIOUS SPEND ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY ON A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE.
THE KEYLESS ENTRY FAILED ONE BY ONE. THE RIGHT FRONT FIRST, THEN THE LEFT FRONT DOOR. I WENT TO DEALER, ENDING UP PAYING MORE THAN 500 DOLLARS FOR FIXING IT. THEY SAID THAT IS CAUSED BY THE POOR DESIGN OF THE DOOR HANDLE WHICH ALLOWED THE WATER TO GET INSIDE AND TO DAMAGE THE SENSOR AND WIRES.
LIKE MANY OF THE COMPLAINS LISTED FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL, MY 2012 VOLVO S60 IS CONSUMING OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES WITH NO WARNING LIGHT OF LOW OIL PRESSURE SHOWING UP. THERE IS NO SMOKE OR PUDDLES INDICATING BURNING OIL OR AN OIL LEAK. WE TRY TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THE OIL BECAUSE THE DEALER SAID SINCE IT'S A TURBO IT NEEDS EXTRA OIL BETWEEN CHANGES. ABOUT A YEAR AGO THE OIL TRAP WAS CHANGED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING. RECENTLY, THE CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH, LIKE IT NEEDED SPARK PLUGS,(THOUGH IT WAS NOT TIME) THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE FOUND OUT THE 5TH CYLINDER STOPPED FIRING AND I HAVE A WARPED HEAD NOW BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE GETTING TOO HOT. THE WEEK BEFORE, I COULD SMELL THE CAR WAS BURNING RICH, NOW I REALIZE IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE 5TH CYLINDER AND VERY LIKELY THE 'GUNK' FROM THE STOPPED UP OIL TRAP. EVERYTHING LEADS BACK TO THE OIL ISSUE.
CPSC: ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2018 AROUND 4:30PM ON A SATURDAY, I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS AND SUDDENLY MY CURTAIN AIRBAGS ON MY 2012 VOLVO DEPLOYED. THERE WAS A HIGH PITCH, LOUD SCREECHING NOISE, A LOUD POP AND ALL THIS DEBRIS SPRAYED ALL OVER ME AND THE INSIDE OF MY CAR AND THESE WHITE PLASTIC AIRBAGS (CURTAINS) BUSTED THROUGH THE ROOF OF MY CAR. *DT *JS
IN OCTOBER 2018. WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 VOLVO ( 88,000 MILES)THE CAR STARTED TO HESITATE IN TRAFFIC THEN IT STOP. I HAD JUST EXIT THE EXPRESS HIGHWAY ON TO A CITY STREET. THERE WAS NO SENSOR LIGHTS OR ENGINE CHECK LIGHT THAT CAME ON AT ALL. TRIED TO CRANK THE CAR BACK UP. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. SUDDENLY THE OIL LIGHT AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. A SEARS TECHNICAL CAME OUT TO JUMP START THE CAR THINKING IT WAS MY BATTERY TO TAKE CAR TO THERE SHOP. HE CHECK THE OIL BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON. THE OIL WAS FINE NOT LOW. I HAD JUST HAD A OIL CHANGE SEPT 2018. THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO GET A TOW TO A SHOP FOR FOREIGN CARS. MY DIAGNOSIS ENGINE LOCKED UP. THE INJECTORS 5 AND 6 WAS WIDE OPEN (HYDRO LOCKING ) FUEL HAD BEEN LEAKING EVERYWHERE EVEN IN MY OIL. THE PRICE WAS $1400.00 TO REPAIR.
ON DECEMBER 24, 2015, OUR 2012 VOLVO S60 FWD T5 ENGINE BROKE DOWN ON A CITY STREET. THE BELT WAS REPLACED AT THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP WITH A STANDARD "VOLVO-BELT." MILEAGE ON THE CAR AT THE TIME WAS 43843. FAST FORWARD TO AUGUST 21, 2018, THE CAR BREAKS DOWN AGAIN ON CITY STREET. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 73114. THE BELT AGAIN BREAKS. HOWEVER, THIS TIME DEBRIS GOT INTO TIMING BELT GEARS. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO JUMP TIME AND NOW VALVES ARE BENT. VOLVO DEALERSHIP QUOTED $~6000.00 TO REPAIR. IS THERE AN UNDERLYING ENGINE/BELT PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.
CONSUMING OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND NO WARNING LIGHT OF LOW OIL PRESSURE SHOWS UP. JUST LUCKY TO HAVE CHECKED THE DIP-STICK DURING MY ROUTINE CHECKUP AND FOUND OIL COMPLETELY DEPLETED. ADDED 5 QUARTS OF SYNTHETIC OIL AGAIN CHECKING IN THREE WEEKS I HAD TO ADD ANOTHER 2 QUARTS. THIS IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS VERY RAMPANT AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR VEHICLES ENGINE SEIZE. A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS NEEDED ASAP. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 62K
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND DISCOVERED WITHIN 45 MILES OF DRIVING THE CAR THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE. THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON NOR DID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER I ADDED 4QUARTZ OF OIL AND THE ENGINE QUIETED DOWN THAT THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A NOTIFICATION SAYING TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY. THIS HAPPENED AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO PEP BOYS TO SEE A MANAGER ABOUT THEM NOT PUTTING OIL IN THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING WITH PEP BOYS ON THE ISSUE FOR OVER A MONTH AND THE MECHANIC I HIRED HAS JUST POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY CAR. APPARENTLY VOLVO HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT NEVER COMING ON WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD PEP BOYS THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR UNTIL A KNOCKING SOUND HAD STARTED.
VEHICLE HAD A NO START, NO CRANK CONDITION WHILE PARKED. WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER DETERMINED NO START, NO CRANK CONDITION WAS CAUSED BY OUTDATED SOFTWARE. I DO NOT THINK VOLVO SHOULD DESIGN A CAR TO NOT START IF SOFTWARE IS OUTDATED. HAD I NEEDED TO USE THE CAR TO DRIVE TO HOSPITAL OR SOME OTHER EMERGENCY THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE.
CAR DID NOT INDICATE LOW OIL PRESSURE AT ANY TIME. ENGINE SEIZED AND STALLED ON FREEWAY CREATING DRIVING HAZZARD. CAR WAS IN MOTION AT APPROX. 65 MPL, STARTED SHAKING AS IF A TIRE HAD BLOWN. CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE BUNED OIL, STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE ONLY ALERT THAT CAME ON WAS THE LOW BATTERY ICON AFTER THE MOTOR SEIZED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MCGRATH VOLVO CARS BARRINGTON (300 MN HOUGH ST, BARRINGTON, IL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO THE OIL BEING FOUR QUARTS LOW. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V592000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
VOLVO HAS AN INTERNAL SERVICE RECALL FOR THEIR ENGINE OIL SENSORS. THE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND HERE: THEY HAVE STATED THAT THEY FIXED THE SENSOR IN MY VEHICLE; HOWEVER, I STILL EXPERIENCED THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE SERVICE RECALL. MY CAR SHOWED 0 ENGINE OIL LIGHT READINGS, BUT MY ENGINE SEIZED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. HAD OTHER VEHICLES BEEN AROUND, I WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
AT AROUND 51,000 MILES, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT BLINKED. WE CHECKED THE OIL AND FOUND THAT WE HAD TO ADD 5 QUARTS ON 11/5/2017. VOLVO ADDED ANOTHER QUART ON 12/26/2017. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE OIL USAGE AND SAFETY, AND ARE KEEPING IN CONTACT WITH OUR VOLVO DEALER TO SEE IF THIS CONTINUES.
A METAL SILVER PIECE ON STEERING HAS A SHARP EDGE THAT RESULTED IN A CUT ON FINGER WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND TURNING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER (JIM FISHER VOLVO, 2108 W BURNSIDE ST, PORTLAND, OR 97210, (503) 295-5571) INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A PREMATURE INTERNAL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THE CAR WAS CONSUMING OIL AT A SHOCKING RATE - 12 QUARTS OVER THE COURSE OF 2 MONTHS AND THE OIL LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE, EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL! I OPENED A CASE WITH VOLVO USA AT THE TIME AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR TO A DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND A LEAK AND DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AGAIN FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND IT WAS STILL NOT RESOLVED. A FEW WEEKS AFTER MY MOST RECENT VISIT TO THE DEALER, THE CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE WHILE IN TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. THE CAR WAS DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF ATLANTA TRAFFIC. IT TURNS OUT THE ENGINE "THREW A ROD" AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED ($11K)! THIS CAR HAS 78K MILES ON IT. I AGAIN REACHED OUT TO VOLVO USA AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL GOODWILL REPAIRS WERE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEALER AND THE DEALER DID NOT FEEL ANY ASSISTANCE WAS IN ORDER IN THIS CASE. AT THIS TIME I HAVE A VERY GOOD LOOKING AND EXPENSIVE BOAT ANCHOR IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER READING MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE, I HAVE ONCE AGAIN REACHED OUT TO VOLVO USA FOR ASSISTANCE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THE 2012 S60 T5 ENGINE.
ENGINE FAILED AFTER 84,000 MILES. ENGINE WAS CARED FOR WELL; VEHICLE RECEIVED SERVICE AT RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS. THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS THAT RESULT IN AVERAGE WEAR AND TEAR.
<40K MILES 2ND OWNER BOUGHT CERTIFIED FROM DEALER 2015..2012 VOLVO S60..ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. TOOK TO DEALER IN DAVIE FLORIDA SAYS ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM PROBLEM..FAN OR AS SUCH..IM SEEING X6 RECALLS ON SIMILAR YEAR MAKE AND MODEL.MY VEHICLE VIN NOT SHOWING ON RECALL ROSTER..DEALER WANTS 1200.00 TO REPAIR..WHY WOULD I HAVE TO PAY IF ON RECALL ROSTER .BUT MY VIN NUMBER NOT REGISTERED FOR SAME ISSUE?
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A GROCERY STORE LOT. I ENTERED THE VEHICLE TO BACK IT OUT OF ITS PARKING SPOT. IT WAS NEXT TO A FULL SIZED VAN WHICH HAD CARPET CLEANING EQUIPMENT MOUNTED INSIDE. I STARTED THE CAR AND PLACED IT IN REVERSE AS IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I TRIED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKE WHICH FAILED. I COLLIDED WITH A BLOCK WALL IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO GET IT OUT OF GEAR, WITH THE SOLID JARRING FROM THE REAR THE CAR WENT INTO DRIVE AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO FULL SPEED, WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE. THE VOLVO HIT THE VAN WHICH IT HAD BEEN PARKED NEXT TO IN THE REAR LEFT BUMPER AND DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET THROUGH A PLANTER AND INTO A PARKING SPOT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANTER. THIS CAR (VOLVO) IS EQUIPPED WITH A COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AUTO BRAKED AND DID NOT. ADDITIONALLY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO AND HAD THEM ATTEMPT TO PULL CODES FROM THE VEHICLES INFORMATION SYSTEM. THEY REPORTED THAT NO CODES WERE PRESENT AND ATTEMPTED TO EXPLAIN AWAY THE INCIDENT AS DRIVER ERROR. THE CAR WAS TOTALED IN THE PROCESS. I AM CERTAIN THAT THERE WAS NO DRIVER ERROR AND THAT WHAT HAPPENED WAS A SUDDEN UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION. OTHER SOMEWHAT SIMILAR INCIDENTS ARE REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. THE CAR HAS BEEN RETAINED IN MY POSSESSION UNTIL MAR 9TH 2017. IN THE EVENT IT SHOULD BE EVALUATED I HAVE IT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE BURNED THROUGH ALL OIL CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE WITH NO WARNING FROM VEHICLE ELECTRONICS (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS ENGINE BEGAN TO FAIL; WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL TO CLOSEST MECHANIC). VEHICLE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT HAS HAD PREVIOUS RECALL (FOR OIL PRESSURE WARNING) FOR OTHER OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR BUT NOT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE.
ON APRIL 12, 2016 I TOOK MY VOLVO S-60 LEASED BRAND NEW FROM VOLVO AND THE PURCHASED AT THE END OF THE LEASE AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND A CHECK OIL LIGHT. VOLVO HAD A RECALL ON OIL PRESSURE CENSORS (THIS HAD CAUSED OTHER CAR ENGINES TO SEIZE SOMETHING THAT THE NTSB HAS REPORTED ON). THE VOLVO AUTHORIZED DEALER, HERB GORDON, CLAIMED TO HAVE MADE THIS REPAIR. HOWEVER ON JUNE 21, 2016, THE ENGINE SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. THE VOLVO AUTHORIZED DEALER DETERMINED IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, AT THE TIME, I ASKED ABOUT SIMPLY APPLYING THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE (ABOUT $12,000) TO GETTING ME INTO A NEW CAR. VOLVO REFUSED AND WENT AHEAD WITH AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT (THEY HAD MY CAR FROM JUNE 21, 2016 TO AUGUST 1, 2016. THE CAR BROKE DOWN AGAIN ON AUGUST 15, 2016 WHILE MY FAMILY AND I WERE ON THE ROAD FOR A VACATION. WHEN WE RETURNED FROM VACATION THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK TO US BUT THE PROBLEM NOW IS THAT THE CAR'S VALUE HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DIMINISHED BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, THE BLUEBOOK VALUE OF THE CAR IS ON AVERAGE $13,789 BUT THE HIGHEST WE CAN GET FOR IT IS $8,000 BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE DONE TO IT BY VOLVO. WE HAVE TRIED TO GET VOLVO TO WORK WITH US BY MAKING UP THAT DIFFERENCE AS A TRADE IN ON A CAR THEY HAVE IN STOCK. WE HAVE BEEN MET WITH NOTHING BUT HOSTILITY AND ABUSE. IN FACT EARLIER TODAY WE WERE TOLD BY A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT VOLVO TO SHUT UP AND THEN HE HUNG UP ON US,
REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN WHILE DAUGHTER WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. SHE FELL OUT THE CAR. PERSON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR JUST FLEW OPEN. PLEASE GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS IMMEDIATELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE STILL AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V592000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,740.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V303000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
MY 2012 S60 HAS LESS THAN 63K MILES AND IT IS BURNING OIL. I'VE NOT SEEN ANY LEAKS OR EXHAUST SMOKE, SO I ASSUMED ALL WAS WELL. DEALER SHIP ADVISED IT'S NORMAL FOR A VOLVO TO LOSS 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. RECENTLY THE ENGINE FAILED WITH NO WARNING, AND WARRANTY IS OUT. CAN'T BELIEVE A 2012 VEH. WOULD HAVE SUCH ENGINE PROBLEMS AND VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM.
THE CAR IS USING OIL LIKE CRAZY. GOING THRU 3-4 QUARTS EVERY 2000 MILES. STARTED AT 40541 WHEN SERVICED, THEY NOTED IT WAS A QUART LOW. I AM NOW AT 79000. & THE PROBLEM HAS JUST GOTTEN WORSE. I SPOKE TO DEALER ABOUT THIS & THEY ACTED AS IF THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE OR WHY. THEY AGREED TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TEST (THEY SAID WAS THE NEXT STEP IN PROTOCOL) WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD READ THAT THIS WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM & I HAD COPY OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED. THEY EVEN TOLD ME MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED, THAT THE T6 MODELS WERE THE ONES WITH THE ISSUE. THAT IS NOT TRUE. TOOK IT BACK AGAIN AFTER 2000 MILES & I WAS BARELY SHOWING ANY OIL ON THE DIPSTICK BUT THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN & NOT TO ADD OIL. I DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE IT THIS LOW. I GET IT OVER TO THE DEALER WHICH IS 40 MIN AWAY. THEY CHECKED IT & GAVE ME A LOANER BUT MADE ME PAY $150. I ASKED WHAT THIS WAS OF SINCE THEY SAID THE LOANER WOULD BE PROVIDED FOR FREE & THEY SAID IT WAS "TAX". IT HAS BEEN 7 DAYS & I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. THEY HAVEN'T TOUCHED MY CAR. THEY CALLED AFTER 5 DAYS & SAID THAT THEY WERE WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEIR REP. I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD CALL VOLVO NORTH AMERICA MYSELF, OR GIVE THE DEALER MORE TIME. I DON'T HAVE MUCH FAITH IN THEM AT THIS POINT. I FEEL THEY ACT SECRETIVE & WON'T BE HONEST ABOUT PROBLEMS. I HOPE THEY PROVE ME WRONG & RESTORE MY FAITH IN VOLVO. I WAS SO EXCITED TO BUY A VOLVO & WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING THIS CAR FOR A LONG TIME. I WAS EVEN CONSIDERING GETTING A VOLVO SUV. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT MANY ARE HAVING. IT SEEMS TO BE THE PISTON & RINGS. SOME HAVE HAD TO HAVE NEW ENGINES BC THE PISTON & RINGS DIDN'T HELP.
WHEN AT A FULL STOP, WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ON A HILL AND IN GEAR (DRIVE) THE CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE BREAK PEDAL. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE UNLESS THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE VOLVO OF SAN DIEGO "TECHNICIAN" CHECKED A 2013 VEHICLE WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, HE USED THIS TEST TO PROVE THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND THUS, THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN FINE CONDITION. .I DON'T SEE HOW A CAR ROLLING BACKWARDS WHILE IN A FORWARD GEAR COULD EVER BE CONSIDERED NORMAL BEHAVIOR. IT IS AT BEST, A DEFECT, AT WORST, A SAFETY ISSUE. VOLVO OF SAN DIEGO REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS CAR HAS ONLY 46,000 MILES, AND IS STILL UNDER FULL WARRANTY. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION, BUT THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE IN THIS FORMAT, BUT THE PROBLEMS WERE VERIFIED BY THE VOLVO OF SAN DIEGO PERSON WHO WENT ON THE TEST DRIVE WITH ME, ON JUNE 15TH, 2016. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WHICH I HAVE BEEN DESCRIBING TO VOLVO OF SAN DIEGO SINCE DECEMBER 2015. TO DATE, THEY HAVE REFUSED TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM.
WHEN THE CAR IS OUTDOORS, IN TEMPERATURES APPROACHING 100 F, THE REAR (BACKUP) CAMERA FLICKERS OR FAILS ALTOGETHER.
MY 2012 VOLVO S60 IS USING ONE QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 900-1000 MILES. THIS IS TOO MUCH. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE PISTON RINGS THAT ARE BAD.
2012 VOLVO S60. VEHICLE IS AT 64,114 MILES. ABOUT A WEEK AGO, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I NOTICED A HIGH PITCHED WHISTLE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT A RUBBER DIAPHRAGM IN THE OIL TRAP HAD RUPTURED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO ON FULL VACUUM AND IN-TAKE TOO MUCH AIR AND OIL. IN FACT, IT WAS TAKING IN SO MUCH OIL THAT THE OIL WAS NEARLY DEPLETED. HE STATED THAT HE HAS SEEN SIMILAR ISSUES WITH VOLVOS IN THE PAST. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AGO, I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL SERVICE. AT THAT TIME, HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE'S OIL WAS ALMOST DEPLETED. I'M NOW BEGINNING TO SUSPECT THAT THE BROKEN DIAPHRAGM IS RELATED TO THAT ISSUE AS WELL. I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING DEPLETED OIL (AND THE LACK OF A DRIVER NOTIFICATION DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING OIL SENSOR). THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE OIL DEPLETION IN THESE OTHER CASES AS WELL.
HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND SOFTWARE PROBLEMS. IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ALL ELECTRONICS WILL GO OFF. ALSO, CAR WONT ALWAYS SHUT DOWN OR START PROPERLY. LOOKED OVER MANY FORUMS AND FOUND THE EXACT COMPLAINTS. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER RECALLS FOR ELECTRICAL AND SOFTWARE FOR THE S60, BUT APPARENTLY THEY DONT APPLY TO MY VIN, EVEN THOUGH I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.
1) POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING CONSTANTLY SINCE PURCHASING CAR AT 52K MILES; DIAGNOSED AS RACK AND PINION FAILURE 2) ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE MADE WHISTLING NOISE AT 60K MILES WHILE DRIVING; DIAGNOSED AS PCV FAILURE
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD BOOM. I COULD HEAR SOMETHING SLIDING DOWN MY ROOF AND OFF THE BACK OF THE CAR. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON, THEN I HEARD A WIND NOISE ABOVE. I REALIZED THAT MY SUNROOF WAS BROKEN AND GLASS WAS CASCADING DOWN AND FLYING OFF OF MY CAR. IT JUST SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. I PULLED OVER TO LOOK AT THE SUNROOF AND TO SEE IF THERE WAS A ROCK THAT HIT IT OR SOMETHING ELSE. THERE WAS NOTHING THERE EXCEPT FOR A SHATTERED SUNROOF WITH A HUGE HOLE. THE GLASS WAS POINTING UPWARD AS IF IT HAD EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ENGINE OIL IN THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,111.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 VOLVO S60. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A POLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE LOCAL POLICE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE AT THE SCENE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V075000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IMPACTED, HENCE NO DEPLOYMENT. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
THE ENGINE HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE WAS STRUGGLING TO CRANK. THE ENGINE SHOWED SIGNS OF HESITATION MAKING IT HARD TO MAINTAIN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS WAS LATER FOUND OUT TO BE DUE TO NO COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER #3. THE VALVES, VALVE GUIDES, AND BEARINGS IN THE ENGINE WERE DESTROYED BY OVERHEATING DUE TO LOW OIL PRESSURE. A VEHICLE SOFTWARE RECALL WAS KNOWN AT THE TIME TO CAUSE THIS OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE WAS ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD AND AT 68,540 MILES.
MY 2012 VOLVO S60 HAD SERIOUS ENGINE NOISE BROUGHT TO THE SHOP THEY THOUGHT IT MIGHT OF BEEN THE FACT THAT I HAD LOW OIL, BUT I HAD JUST GOTTEN MY OIL CHANGED 12/17/14 AND IT WAS 5/27/15 NOW AND I HAD NOT DRIVEN ANYWHERE CLOSE TO 6 THOUSAND MILES TO DEPLETE ALL THE OIL. THE SHOP TOLD ME TO REALLY FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE ENGINE TO TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. THAT EVENING I GOT A CALL FROM THE SHOP AGAIN TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE MY CAR WAS DANGEROUSLY LOW ON OIL IN FACT 3 QUARTS LOW THAT THE ENGINE FOR THAT FACT HAD NOT GOTTEN ANY OIL, THIS IN TURN CASED THE BARRING AND THE CRANK SHAFT THE BE DAMAGED SO BAD THAT THEY SHOP TO ME THAT IF BASICALLY BEYOND REPAIR AND I WOULD NEED TO GET A NEW ENGINE. UPON RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I CAME ACROSS A STRING OF RECALLS FOR MY CAR, IT STATED THAT THE VOLVO'S SOFTWARE HAD A PROBLEM WHICH PREVENTED THE LOW ENGINE OIL LIGHT FROM COMING OUT AND IN DECEMBER 2013 THEY STARTED A RECALL. I CHECK THE WEBSITE AND GOT THE NUMBER TO VOLVO OF NORTH AMERICA AND CALLED AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS ONE OF THE VEHICLES THAT WAS RECALLED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY A SIMPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IN THEIR RECORDS MY CAR WAS TAKEN INTO VOLVO AND THE UPDATE WAS APPLIED TO MY CAR FIXING THE PROBLEM. I TOLD THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE THAT IF THIS WAS THE CASE THEN IT MUST OF NOT WORKED BECAUSE MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT VOLVO'S WEBSITE DESCRIBED AND ALSO NO "LOW ENGINE OIL" LIGHT EVER CAME ON.
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING WHEEL BEZEL, A SHARP EDGE IS EXPOSED. THIS EDGE IS RAZOR SHARP AND HAS CAUSED LACERATIONS. I SEE NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10503380 AND 10534272 APPEAR TO DESCRIBE THE SAME PROBLEM. (INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE). *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FOUR QUARTS OF OIL WERE EMPTIED BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,100. DJR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT EMITTED AN ABNORMAL CHEMICAL SMELL THAT CAME THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED DAILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT MOLD WAS BUILT UP ON THE EVAPORATOR THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE AIR CONDITIONER. THE SOFTWARE WAS UPGRADED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000. UPDATED 08/19/14*LJ
ON JUNE 1ST ANOTHER CAR FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY AND PULLED INTO THE PATH OF MY CAR WHILE I WAS GOING APPROX. 45MPH. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND TURNED TO THE LEFT TO TRY AND AVOID THE CAR AND COLLIDED WITH THE OTHER CAR. I ESTIMATE THE SPEED OF AT LEAST 35MPH AT IMPACT. THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE CAR TOOK MOST OF THE IMPACT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND BURNED MY ARM. HOWEVER, DESPITE THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR TAKING THE BRUNT OF THE IMPACT, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER (MY FIANC) WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CONCUSSION DUE TO THIS ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE CONCUSSION MAY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD HER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. VOLVO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CLAIMS FOR SOME REASON THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED IN THIS ACCIDENT. I SUSPECT THEY ARE COVERING UP A PRODUCT FAILURE. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE ACCIDENT AVAILABLE FOR YOUR REVIEW. *TR
ON THE APRIL 23, 2014, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR SHOT OUT AT HIGH SPEED HE DIDN'T REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED. ON APRIL 24, 2014, I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY IN PARK AS I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE TO SLOWLY ENTER MY GARAGE THE CAR TOOK OFF AT HIGH SPEED TIRES SPUN LEFT TIRE MARKS ON MY PAVEMENT AND I HIT THE BRAKES IN GARAGE NOT TO HIT THE WALL AND LEFT MARKS THERE AS WELL. MY NEIGHBORS WERE RIGHT THERE WITNESSING THIS SCARY EXPERIENCE. I CALLED CORPORATE IMMEDIATELY THEY TOLD ME TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOOK THE KEYS TO SLOWLY DRIVE IT ONTO THE FLATBED AND THE CAR AGAIN TOOK OFF AT HIGH SPEED AND ALMOST FLEW OFF THE TOW TRUCK! ALSO, THE PUSH BUTTON START BUTTON WAS A PROBLEM, EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS LEASED. UPDATED 07/28/14 UPDATED 10/27/2014 *JS
CAR STALLED (2 TIMES ) WHILE DRIVING IT. COULD NOT STEER OR OPERATE ANY PART OF THE CAR. ONCE I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED MY A TRUCK ON A HIGHWAY. MY VOLVO DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. (I RECENTLY READ ABOUT THE GM IGNITION PROBLEMS AND THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THIS CAR). *TR
ON AUGUST 24, 2013, I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. A CAR STOPPED SHORT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HIT THAT CAR. I THEN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO REACT. ANOTHER CAR THEN RE-ENDED ME. MY AIRBAG NOR SEATBELT PRETENTIONERS DEPLOYED. I HAD DIFFICULTY TURNING THE CAR OFF. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF THE INCIDENT, I REPORTED THE MATTER TO VOLVO. THEY SENT AN INVESTIGATOR OUT. VOLVO CLAIMS THAT SENSORS WERE NOT ACTIVATED SINCE THE DAMAGE WAS ABOVE THEM, AND THERE WAS NOT ANY PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AT THE SPEED I HIT, THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR WHY THE AIRBAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. EITHER THE CAR IS DESIGNED IMPROPERLY IN TERMS OF WHERE THE SENSORS ARE PLACED OR THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, OTHER S60S (NOT MY VID#) HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE AIRBAGS NOT TO DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND THE REAR END SPUN UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DYNAMIC TRACTION CONTROL FAILED TO ACTIVATE AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CURBSIDE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL RIMS. IN ADDITION, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE RIM AND FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. A TROUBLE CODE WAS DETECTED FOR THE SRS MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,991.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ALUMINUM ON THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DETACHED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO THE HANDS AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,700.
THE STEERING WHEEL BEZEL DELAMINATES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND BECOMES VERY SHARP CAUSING CUTS ON HANDS. DEALER REPLACED THE BEZEL AND WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE OF THE BEZEL. THERE SHOULD BE NO SHARP CUTTING EDGES ON THE STEERING WHEEL! *TR
BRAKES COMPLETELY GAVE OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON RT. 85 IN ATLANTA. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND I DIDN'T HIT ANYONE. CALLED VOLVO ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY SENT A TOWING COMPANY. CAR IS STILL IN SHOP AND NOT YET DIAGNOSED. I'M TERRIFIED TO GET BACK INTO THAT CAR! *TR
THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM AN AUTHORIZED VOLVO DEALER. AFTER LITTLE OVER 12K MILES, THERE IS SEVER PAINT DAMAGE ON THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE CAR. THE PAINT APPEARS TO BE BUBBLING FROM UNDERNEATH. REQUIRES $8609.66 TO REPAIR. VOLVO ONLY WARRANTY THE PAINT FOR 12K MILES BUT ADVERTISES THE CAR HAVING 48 MONTH 50K MILES WARRANTY. VOLVO STATES THAT THE CAR MUST BE DRIED EVERY TIME IT GETS WET (INCLUDING WIPING THE CAR DRY AFTER IT RAINS). THEY HAVE GIVEN ME THE FOLLOWING EXCUSES FOR WHY THE PAINT IS DAMAGED: 1) WATER (E.G. NOT ONLY HONDA, BUT FORD, GM, CHRYSLER, ALL MANUFACTURERS ARE CREATING VERY PAINFUL CAR SEATS SINCE 2009 DUE TO THIS AWFUL HEADREST REQUIREMENT. SEATBELTS ARE A LAW, BUT I CHOOSE TO WEAR THEM. MOTORCYCLE HELMETS ARE NO LONGER A LAW, BUT I CHOOSE TO WEAR THEM. NOW LET ME CHOOSE MY HEADREST POSITION. I THINK THESE NEW DESIGNS ARE GOING TO CAUSE FAR MORE INJURIES AND INSURANCE CLAIMS FROM PEOPLE HAVING THEIR HEADS COCKED FORWARD, IN A FORCED IMPROPER POSTURE. I HAD MIGRAINES DUE TO MY HEADREST BEFORE I RESOLVED THIS ISSUE IN MY CAR BY MAKING MODIFICATIONS. I SIT WITH PROPER POSTURE AND MY HEAD IS FORCED FORWARD. THE ONLY CHOICE I HAD WAS TO SIT IMPROPERLY IN ORDER TO TRY TO AVOID THE TERRIBLE DISCOMFORT THIS NEW LAW FORCES ON ME. PLEASE CHANGE THIS LAW. *TR
THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IN MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN OCCASIONALLY MALFUNCTIONING (ABOUT 10-15 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING MY VEHICLE IN MAY) CAUSING IT TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 5 MPH. THIS CAUSES MY VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP WITHOUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEING ACTIVATED. I THEN HAVE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE. THEN MY CRUISE CONTROL IS INOPERATIVE UNTIL I RESTART THE VEHICLE. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED AFTER THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE. I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST VOLVO REPAIR CENTER FOUR TIMES TO BE REPAIRED BUT THE MALFUNCTION STILL OCCURS. VOLVO IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE MY CAR UNDER THE LEMON LAW. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND OCCASION ON WHICH THIS DEFECT HAS APPEARED, THE PRIOR INCIDENT HAPPENING IN APPROXIMATELY MARCH 2012, AT A MILEAGE OF APPROXIMATELY 5000 MILES. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR JUST UNDER SIX MONTHS. I LIVE IN A SOUTHEASTERN US STATE AND TRAVELLED TO MY SECOND HOME IN FLORIDA. THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IN FLORIDA FEWER THAN 20 TOTAL DAYS. ON BOTH OF THE LAST TWO OCCASIONS DURING WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FLORIDA, AN ANIMAL WAS APPARENTLY ABLE TO CLIMB DEEP INTO THE UNDERBODY OF THE CAR AND CHEW ON WIRES CONTROLLING THE DYNAMIC TRACTION STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM, THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM, THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM, AND THE VOLVO CITY SAFETY CRASH AVOIDANCE SYSTEM. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THE INTERNAL CAR ALERT SYSTEM DETECTED THE PROBLEM, ALERTED ME, AND VOLVO AGREED TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS, THOUGH TODAY, ON THE SECOND OCCASION, VOLVO INDICATED THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS FORM OF DAMAGE IN THE FUTURE. I PROPOSED TO BOTH MY VOLVO DEALERSHIP AND TO THE NATIONAL VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE CENTER THAT AN APPROPRIATE FORM OF SHIELDING SHOULD BE ADDED TO COVER THE WIRES CONTROLLING THESE SYSTEMS TO PREVENT AN ANIMAL'S ACCESS TO THEM. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, THIS SUGGESTION WAS IGNORED, AS NO SPECIAL SHIELDING WAS DESCRIBED/OFFERED, DESPITE THE CRITICAL NATURE OF THESE SYSTEMS. THIS PROBLEM HAS NEVER OCCURRED WITH EITHER OF THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES WHICH I REGULARLY TAKE TO THE SAME LOCATION, THUS, I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN WHICH EITHER THE MATERIALS USED IN THESE WIRING SYSTEMS ARE PARTICULARLY ATTRACTIVE TO WHATEVER ANIMAL CHEWED THE WIRES (E.G. SOY-BASED WIRE COATING POLYMERS PERHAPS), OR MORE LIKELY, THE WIRES ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY SHIELDED/JACKETED TO PREVENT SUCH DAMAGE. IN EACH CASE, SINCE THERE WAS NOT A NEARBY VOLVO DEALERSHIP, I DROVE MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED IT WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL SAFETY SYSTEMS.
THE ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL STOPS FOR NO REASON. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS (~20 TIMES SINCE I PICKED UP THE CAR), THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AS THE TRAFFICS SLOWS DOWN. THE CAR IS ALMOST AT A STOP (5-10 MPH) AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKES COMES ON, THE CARS BRAKES HARD & STOPS AND THE PARKING BRAKE TURNS ON. THE ALERT "CRUISE CONTROL UNAVAILABLE" SHOW IN THE DISPLAY. THEREAFTER THE CRUISE WILL NOT ENGAGE. AFTER I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT, THE CRUISE AGAIN WORKS AGAIN. IN ADDITION TO NOT PERFORMING AS ADVERTISED, THIS REPRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLVO S60 T5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN THE ATTEMPT TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE REMAIN ON. THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
