TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 AUDI ALLROAD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE AT A STANDSTILL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE TIMING CHAIN TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND "DTC" LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH WHILE DRIVING, BUT THE CAR HAD NO SYMPTOMS OF FAULT OTHERWISE. DURING ONE FOLLOWING DAY, I WAS IN THE GARAGE WHERE THE CAR WAS PARKED, WAS NOT RUNNING AND UNLOCKED WITH KEYS INSIDE, AND SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND A SOFTBALL SIZED FIRE BURNING FROM AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR COMING FROM THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE. AFTER PUTTING THE FIRE OUT, I FOUND A BLOWN 'ENGINE MANAGEMENT' FUSE WHICH MAY BE ORIGINALLY TRIGGERED THE DASHBOARD FAULTS. I COULD NOT DISCONNECT THE CONNECTOR BECAUSE IT HAS MELTED TOGETHER, BUT AM HOPING THE BLOWN FUSE WAS FOR THAT CIRCUIT SO NO ELECTRICITY IS FLOWING THROUGH.
SEE AUDI TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN # 2043758/8. AUDI IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS A FIX, BUT HAS NOT ISSUES A RECALL. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DIAGNOSTIC PAPERWORK FUEL CAN VAPORIZE IN THE TANK RESULTING IN LOW FUEL PRESSURE AND DELIVERY RATE. THE SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FUEL CUT WHICH COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AND RAPIDLY DECREASE IN SPEED. SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN THIS SCENARIO, A DRIVER BEHIND THE AFFECTED VEHICLE MAY NOT REALIZE WHAT IS HAPPENING; UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME, THE FOLLOWING VEHICLE MAY COLLIDE WITH THE AFFECTED VEHICLE. AFFECTED VEHICLE WILL LIKELY HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SYMPTOM. THIS IS WHAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION LEADING TO OBTAINING A DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS. *NOTE, I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED A FUEL CUT YET, BUT I FIRST GOT AN ENGINE LIGHT IN COLD WEATHER AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A WARM ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE FUEL HAS VAPORIZED ENOUGH TO CAUSE A FUEL CUT. THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS IN ONLINE FORUMS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED FUEL CUTS WITH THE 2.0T GAS ENGINE IN THIS VEHICLE.
I OWN A 2013 AUDI ALLROAD. RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE OUTER CV BOOT IN THE LEFT FRONT AND RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2018 WHILE STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY THE CV BOOT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT NO CHARGE. ON OCTOBER 4, 2019, THE RIGHT FRONT CV BOOT AND AXLE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED OUT OF WARRANTY BY A REPAIR SHOP. THE SHOP NOTED GREASE LEAKING FROM THE LEFT FRONT AXLE BOOT, THE VERY SOMEONE THAT HAD BEEN REPAIR IN SEPTEMBER 2018. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO AUDI LAST WEEK AND THEY MADE A COURTESY REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THE REPAIR MADE IN SEPTEMBER 2018 WAS BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR REPAIR AND A SERVICE CONSULTANT SAID THAT ONLY A CLAMPED NEEDED TIGHTENING. THE CAR IS GOING ON LIFT ON MONDAY TO SEE IF A REPAIR WAS COMPLETED TO THE RIGHT FRONT BOOT MADE BY AUDI WAS DONE CORRECTLY. I DON'T TRUST VW/AUDI AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER OF THEIR VEHICLES BECAUSE OF THE ISSUE WITH THE REPAIRS NEED TO THE LEFT FRONT AND RIGHT FRONT CV BOOTS. I HAVE OWNED OR LEASED 17 CARS IN MY LIFETIME. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A CV BOOT OR AXLE ON ANY CAR I HAVE OWNED OR LEASED. I CURRENTLY OWN 4 CARS ONE OF WHICH IS THE AUDI ALLROAD IN QUESTION. NONE OF MY OTHER VEHICLES HAVE EVER NEEDED A CV BOOT OR AXLE REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR. MY 2007 MDX HAS 170,000 PLUS MILES, MY 2013 JEEP WRANGLER HAS 70,000 PLUS MILES, MY 2006 PORSCHE 911 HAS 25,000 PLUS MILES AND THE 2013 AUDI HAS 61,000 PLUS MILES. CV BOOTS SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT THE RATE THEY ARE FAILING ON MY AUDI. A VEHICLE RECALL MAY BE REQUIRED TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM WITH THE CV BOOT. A DEFECTIVE CV BOOT CAN CAUSE AXLE GREASE TO LEAK ONTO THE ROADWAY AND CREATE A HAZARD, TRAP NUISANCE OR DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR OTHER DRIVERS, RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS, PERSONAL INJURIES AND FATALITIES. I AM SURE AUDI WOULD NOT WANT SUCH A RESULT IF THEIR PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE.
VARIABLE RESISTANCE TO TURNING STEERING WHEEL WHEN BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTIONL INCREASING IN SEVERITY OVER TIME CONSISTENT WITH THE ISSUE EXPERIENCED BY MANY OTHER DRIVERS OF 2013 AND 2013 AUDIS.
ON FEB. 14TH 2019 I TOOK MY AUDI IN FOR A CAMPAIGN RECALL FOR "AFTER RUN PUMP" AND "AUX HEATER". I GOT THE CAR BACK ON FEB. 22ND 2019 (OVER A WEEK IN THE SHOP). ON MAR. 3RD 2019 I DROVE 40 MILES HOME FROM WORK AND STOPPED FOR GAS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. UPON GETTING TO MY DRIVEWAY AND PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKED HALFWAY UP MY DRIVEWAY, THE CAR ENGINE MADE A LAUD NOISE AND STOPPED. THE CABIN FILED WITH SMOKE AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I GOT OUT AND GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT DID NOT USE IT. THERE WAS NOT WARNING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THIS HAPPEN AT 3:40 PM AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AT 6:34 PM. AUDI CALLED THE NEXT DAY AT 4:04 PM WITH THE NEWS THAT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND THAT THE CAM SHAFT WAS POSSIBLY BEND AND UNABLE TO "TURN OVER". I WAS INFORMED AT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AT THE COST WOULD BE BETWEEN $10,000 AND 12,000. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT AFTER A LITTLE OVER A WEEK HAVING THE CAR BACK FROM THE REPAIR AT THE DEALER, THAT THE ENGINE IS SO BROKEN THAT I NEED A NEW ONE. THE SMELL FROM THE INCIDENT SMELLED LIKE COOLANT. NO INDICATIONS THAT THE CAR WAS OVER HEATED AND NOT OTHER WARNINGS. I BELIEVE THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE CAMPAIGN RECALL FOR THE "AFTER RUN PUMP" AND THE DEALER SHOULD REPAIR THE DAMAGED AND ME NOT PAYING FOR A NEW ENGINE. PLEASE HELP ME IN GETTING THIS RESOLVED WITH THE AUDI DEALER OF TACOMA, WA. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP. THE FAILURE ALLOWED WATER TO DRAIN INTO THE VEHICLE AROUND THE AIR BAG CANISTER FOR THE FRONT AND REAR AIR BAGS. AUDI MARIETTA (LOCATED AT 1145 ROTTENWOOD DR, MARIETTA, GA 30060, (877) 863-0749) WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
STEERING NOT FLUID, BEGIN TURN, FALL IS INE, THEN RESISTANCE, , THEN EASIER AGAIN, THEN MORE RESISTANCE. NOTCHY ALMOST LIKE THE STEERING IS REFUSING TO TURN. STEERING RESPONSE/FEEL IS CONFUSINGLY ERRATIC TO THE POINT OF BEING UNSETTLING. PROBLEM DIAGNOSED BY DEALER AS NOT UNUSUAL, RUSTING U JOINT,. REPLACED INTERMEDIATE, STEERING SHAFT. AT COST OF OVER $600. 33,000 MILES ON CAR. WITH ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE BY DEALER. CAR NEVER IN ACCIDENT AND NO BODY RUST. EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE.
STEERING IN MY 2013 AUDI ALLROAD IS INCONSISTANT, NOTCHY, FEELS AS IF IT WON'T REACT TO INPUT. A BIT SCAREY WHEN IN A CURVE. WILL FEEL CORRECT, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN BECOMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL.
2013 AUDI A4 ALLROAD WITH 70K MILES - THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME INCREDIBLY 'NOTCHY' AND OFFERS VERY INCONSISTENT FEEDBACK WHILE DRIVING. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE FEELING IS THAT THE EXPERIENCE LEAVES ME FEELING AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE FRONT WHEELS FOR CERTAIN INTERVALS OF TIME BEFORE RE-ENGAGING. THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS ISSUE WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO DRIFT IN THE LANE, WITH CONSTANT DRIVER INPUT REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN A REASONABLY STRAIGHT TRAJECTORY. THIS IS A KNOWN AUDI ISSUE FOR THE 2013 MODEL YEARS WITH ELECTRIC STEERING, YET NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THIS IS DANGEROUS.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FAILURE. LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING. TIGHT/NOTCHY STEERING.
THE COMPLETE ELECTRO-MECHANICAL STEERING SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAD COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER A NUMBER OF TIMES AND HAD LEFT THE CAR WITH THE DEALER A NUMBER OF TIMES. THEY KEPT GIVING IT BACK TO ME, TELLING ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, THAT THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT THERE WHERE NUMEROUS REPORTS CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND ON THE AUDI FORUMS THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE A THOUSAND CURES FOR THE COMMON COLD ON THE INTERNET. WHEN THEY SPOKE WITH AUDI USA THEY CLAIM THAT AUDI USA DISAVOWED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF ELECTRO-MECHANICAL COMPONENT PROBLEM. I FINALLY LEFT THE CAR WITH THE DEALER FOR A WEEK AND THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE ENTIRE ELECTRO-MECHANICAL STEERING COMPONENTS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS HIDDEN DEFECT AND THAT AUDI USA IS BE ENTIRELY DISHONEST ABOUT THIS. THIS CAR COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR ANYONE ELSE THAT WAS DRIVING IT OR RIDING IN IT. THE ONLY REASON THIS CAR WAS FIXED WAS BECAUSE I WAS PERSISTENT. I WAS CONTINUALLY TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I BOUGHT THIS CAR AS AN OFF LEASE CAR WITH 36,000 MILE IN OCTOBER 2016. I STARTED NOTICING THIS PROBLEM SOON AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND TOOK INTO THE DEALER IN EARLY JANUARY 2017. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRO-MECHANICAL STEERING COMPONENTS (THEY REFER TO THIS AS 'THE RACK') WASN'T DONE UNTIL THE END OF FEBRUARY 2017. WITHOUT BEING OVERLY DRAMATIC I HAD TO DRAG THEM KICKING AND SCREAMING THAT I WAS CRAZY UNTIL THEY FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE SCARIEST PART OF ALL THIS IS THAT THE ORIGINAL OWNER DROVE THIS CAR FOR 36,000 MILES WITH THIS PROBLEM. THEN I WAS SOLD THE CAR AS A AUDI CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR. AND WORSE I AM CONVINCED THAT AUDI USA WAS FULLY AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS. AND HAS HIDDEN THEM. THIS WAS A CONTINUAL ON GOING PROBLEM WHENEVER THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND PARTICULARLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS.
THE STEERING WILL NOT ALLOW THE DRIVER THE ABILITY TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. IT PULLS FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. IT FEELS LIKE THERE IS A MAGNET ON BOTH SIDES OF CENTER PULLING YOU ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. IT SEEMS TO BE TEMPERATURE RELATED. ONCE THE CAR GETS WARM, OR THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE GETS WARMER, THE PROBLEM IS NOT AS PRONOUNCED. AUDI SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS IS A CONCERN WHEN DRIVING WHEN IT IS COLD AND ICY OUT. PULLING SIDE TO SIDE SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY CONCERN. APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD ACROSS MODELS THAT USE THIS NEW ELECTRONIC STEERING MECHANISM. *TR

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Audi A4 and S4 vehicles manufactured February 16, 2012, to October 21, 2014, and 2013-2015 Audi Allroad vehicles manufactured March 12, 2012, to October 21, 2014. Due to an improper algorithm in the air bag control module, if a crash necessitates deployment of the side air bags, a second impact to the front of the vehicle may not command the front air bags to also deploy.
