1- The component failed (timing chain and and oil pump chain broke inside the engine compartment. The car is located in the BMW yard and is available for inspection at BMW Shrewsbury MA. 2. The safety was extremely dangerous. The engine suddenly and stop in the high speed Route 20 State highway. The timing chain and the oil pump have been complete damage and could not be fix. The only solution is replacing the engine and cost about 18000.00. If I get hit from the back I be killed immediately. 3- the vehicle or component has been inspect by the BMW technician. 4-There was a brief moment there was a very loud ai the engine and red flashing lit up the low oil.

MY SAFETY WAS COMPROMISED. THE AUTO HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW CENTER IN SHREWSBURY MA AND BE INSPECTED BY BMW DEALER. NOWARNING OF PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECALL ON SYSTEM CONTROL UNIT. THE ENGINE CONSIDER TOTAL LOSS AND NEED TO BE REPLACED . THE BMW HAD A TIMING CHAIN LAWSUIT REACH A SETTLEMENT FOR THE SAME SAFETY
The contact owns a 2013 BMW X1. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that no issues were found, however, the brake sensor system was reset. The contact stated the failure reoccurred while driving and coming to a stop. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that no issues were found. The contact stated while driving at 20-25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond and went all the way to the floorboard, causing the vehicle to crash into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was not filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the independent mechanic with assistance. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V627000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) as her VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Total engine failure while driving. No prior warning message. Car stopped dead in the middle of an intersection. Wheels would not turn to move the car. These cars have known defective time chain module, it is made of plastic and it breaks down causing engine failure. There is a class action lawsuit, see Gelis v. BMW North America. BMW sold 600,000 cars with this defect to Americans and has not done a recall. Car is at BMW of Palm Springs and they refuse to repair. You are welcome to inspect it.

OIL MOD ALSO RECOMMENDED TO BE REPLACED. SEVERAL ENGINE ISSUES AND WAS DIAGNOSED BY CERTIFIED BMW DEALERSHIP. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS $6200.00 WHITE HORSE AUTOMOTIVE WOULD NOT DO REPAIRS AT A CERTIFIED BMW REPAIR SHOP. THIS CAR WAS NOT JUST TRADED. THE ENGINE WAS LITERALLY SEIZED I HAD NO CHIICE
I SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT IN OCT (#JJN21-55607) AND IN DEC (#11291377) AND NOW AGAIN! ON MARCH 18, 2020, THE BRAND NEW BMW OEM CAR BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN!!! SPECIFICALLY, THE CAR DOES NOT REMOTE UNLOCK, THE LIGHTS ARE ALL OFF, AND THE CAR DOES NOT TURN-OVER. I CAN JUMP THE CAR AND IT WORKS, BUT TEMPORARILY. PLEASE HELP.
WHEN STARTING MY CAR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, POWER OUTPUT WAS REDUCED TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILED AND BRAKE VACUUM RESERVOIR NEEDED TO BE FILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
VEHICLE WITH 68,000 MILES BEGAN HAVING WHIRRING NOISE THAT PROGRESSED TO RATTLING WHILE DRIVING. WHIRRING FIRST HEARD WHILE ENGINE RUNNING IDLE THEN DISAPPEARED. THEN NO ISSUES WITH POWER OR NOISE FOR SEVERAL MILES, THEN NOISE RESTARTED WHILE DRIVING HIGH SPEEDS. SAFELY PULLED OVER THEN INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWED ENGINE MALFUNCTION. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SERVICE SHOP, AS IT COULD NOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN. DIAGNOSED TIMING CHAIN ON OIL PUMP WENT OUT AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. BECAME AWARE OF TSB SI B11 03 17 AFTER THE CAR FAILED. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THROUGH THE DEALER WHERE SERVICED OR WHERE CPO WARRANTY CAME FROM REGARDING THIS ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAD RECEIVED MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES AT PRESCRIBED INTERVALS.
2 MONTHS AFTER REPORTING A DEAD/DRAINED BATTERY, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. THE ALARM STARTS WHINING AND THEN THE CAR NEEDS TO BE JUMPED BECAUSE THE BATTERY IS DEAD. CAR WAS STATIONARY WHEN OCCURRED, AND IS DRIVEN DAILY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, BUT CAN SIT FOR A FEW DAYS DURING SCHOOL BREAKS.

BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A DEALER WITH A NEW BATTERY. BATTERY DIED 5 DAYS LATER FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NOTHING WORKED ON CAR. HAD TO JUMP IT. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC TO BUY A DIFFERENT BATTERY. THAT NEW BATTERY DIED 6 DAYS LATER. NOTHING WORKED ON CAR. HAD TO JUMP IT. APPARENTLY FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS MODEL HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CABLE AND ALSO WITH PARASITIC COMPONENTS CONSTANTLY DRAINING THE BATTERY. IT SHOULDN'T COST ME $$$ TO HAVE A MECHANIC DIAGNOSE AND RE-PROGRAM CAR COMPUTER, AS WELL AS PURCHASE NEW BATTERIES.
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON AND OFF AND SEATBELT LIGHT ALWAYS ON WHILE DRIVING TWO DAYS AFTER RECALL FOR DRIVER AIRBAG WAS DONE THIS ISSUE STARTED. THE DEALERSHIP PERSON TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE LIGHTS ARE STEADY TO FIX THE PROBLEM , SOMETHING ABOUT A SENSOR OR WEIGHT MAT.

TOOK THE CAR TO THE BODY SHOP AND I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR, THE CAR DIDN'T START AS IF NO ELECTRICAL POWER, NO POWER AT ALL, THEY JUMP START MY CAR AND I BROUGHT THE CAR HOME, THE NEXT DAY NO ELECTRICAL POWER AGAIN, I CALLED THE SHOP WHERE I GOT MY DENT FIXED AND TOOK THE CAR THEY SAID THEY REPLACE THE BATTERY AND BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO ME THE NEXT THE DIDN'T START AGAIN NO ELECTRICAL POWER THEY TOOK CAR AGAIN TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR, SO THEY TOOK THE BMW DEALER, UNTIL NOW I DON'T HAVE MY CAR. I AM PUZZLED AND WONDERING IF MY CAR WILL EVER FIX.

THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH CAUSING DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVERS FRONTAL AIR BAG, THE INFLATOR COULD RUPTURE WITH METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE DRIVER OR OTHER OCCUPANTS RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

'TRANSMISSION FAILURE' WARNING ERROR OCCURS WHEN AUTO STOP START (ASS) MODE ENABLED CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO FAIL ; CAR REQUIRES RESTART WHICH IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. BMW APPEARS UNCERTAIN OF HOW TO RESOLVE ISSUE. 53K MILES WITH ALL REQUIRED SERVICE COMPLETED ON VEHICLE TO-DATE. CAR WILL OPERATE AND TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT NORMALLY AND ERROR WILL CLEAR AFTER RESTARTING, BUT SAME ERROR OCCURS.
WHILE STARTING THE CAR FROM THE PARKING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I CAN'T DRIVE MORE THAN 30 MPH. UPON INSPECTING, FLEX DISC (GUIBO)/READ DRIVESHAFT, REAR BEGINNING TO CRACK. SERVICE CENTER MENTIONED THAT IF THE DRIVESHAFT IS BROKEN WHILE IN MOTION, IT MIGHT CAUSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVESHAFT MIGHT FALL DOWN AND IMPACT THE CAR MOTION.
WE WERE DRIVING ALONG THE NORTHERN STATE PARKWAY WHEN ALL THE VEHICLES INDICATOR LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING, THE SPEED AND RPM NEEDLE STOPPED WORKING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE NAVIGATION EVENTUALLY BLACKED OUT, AND THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING. AS WE DRIFTED TOWARD THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR TURNED ON AGAIN BUT ALL LIGHTS IN THE CAR CONTINUED FLASHING UNTIL THE CAR SHUT OFF ONCE AND FOR ALL. THE CARS COMPUTER WOULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT BROUGHT TO THE SCENE. A BOTTLE OF WATER WAS FOUND OPEN NEAR THE MODULES IN THE TRUNK AND CONFIRMED TO BE THE CAUSE OF ELECTRICAL DAMAGE WHICH DISABLED THE VEHICLE. WATER IN THE TRUNK OF BMW X1 CAUSES VEHICLE TO BECOME INOPERABLE WHILE DRIVING. BECAUSE OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE VULNERABLE ELECTRONICS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CARGO AREAS. -INSTRUMENT FAILURES -LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE -VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN ON HIGHWAY -DELICATE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS DAMAGED BY A BOTTLED WATER -CAUSES ELECTRICAL FIRE OR CARE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING -RISK OF DEATH FOR BMW PASSENGERS AND TO OTHER PARTYS ON THE HIGHWAY -FILED SUNROOF WATER SEAL
VEHICLE ENGINE COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE DURING DRIVING. DUE TO AMOUNT OF OIL WAS LEAKING SPITING ON WIRES AROUND THE HOT ENGINE. I FOUND AS JUST PARKED ON MY DRIVE WAY SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE HOOD. WE OPENED THE HOOD HUGE SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. I CALLED DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO TOW THE VEH. TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAID, IT HAPPENED DUE TO THE VACUUM PUMP ISSUE. CHECKED WITH BMW USA SAID NO SUCH RE-CALL.. BUT FOR ME 5-6 YRS OLD VEHICLE SPECIALLY BMW COULD HAVE PUT FAMILY IN DANGER. ENCLOSED PICTURE SHOWING BROKEN /TUBE PIPE. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT OIL CHANGE AND OTHER JOB WAS PERFORMED JUST COUPLE OF WEEK AGO LEAK WASN'T CAUGHT BY THE SERVICE MAN.

MANAGED TO CREEP THE CAR TO THE CURB BEFORE SHUT DOWN. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. MECHANIC SAID TIMING GUARD AND CHAIN WENT, ENGINE IS DEAD AT APPROXIMATELY 78,000 MILES. BMW NORTH AMERICA WAS CONTACTED TWICE. I WAS TOLD BASICALLY THAT I WAS OUT OF LUCK. NEEDS A NEW MOTOR. USED MOTOR TO COST $11K INSTALLED. STILL OWE MONEY ON LOAN.

QUICK SEARCH OF OWNER'S MANUAL INDICATED CAR COULD CONTINUE TO BE DRIVEN ' BUT VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A SERVICE CENTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 1 MILE, VEHICLE SUFFERED TOTAL LOSS OF POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD ONTO A SIDE STREET. ENGINE SUFFERED TIMING CHAIN/CHAIN HANGER FAILURE. ENGINE IS SEIZED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ~$9,000. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 75,000 MILES. FULL POWER LOSS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATHS. EVIDENTLY, THIS IS NOT AN UNKNOWN ISSUE WITH CERTAIN BMW ENGINES. PLEASE ELEVATE THIS ISSUE WITH BMW TO ISSUE A RECALL - IT'S OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! NEED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM ON AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED!
I WAS DRIVING AND THE NYS THURWAY AND MY CAR SHUT DOWN BECAUSE I FOUND THAT MY GROUND CABLE TO THE BATTERY RUSTED OR ROTTED THEN BROKE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO COVER AROUND THE CABLE PROTECTING IT FROM THE WEATHER. IT CONNECTS FROM THE BATTERY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WHERE THE SNOW AND RAIN GET TO IT. EVERY CAR I HAVE OWNED HAD A BATTERY WITH PLASTIC COVERING. THE CAR WILL STALL AND SHUTDOWN. THEY KNOW OF THIS.

ENGINE WOULD NOT START AFTER INCIDENT. CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH, AND OBSERVED METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL PAN. THEY RECOMMENDED A NEW ENGINE ($25K+), FOR THIS 5 YEAR OLD PREMIUM VEHICLE.

THE AUTO START STOP MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN RESTARTING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR SHIFTED INTO PARK RATHER THAN REMAINING IN DRIVE. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IS START-STOP TRAFFICE CONDITIONS WHEN DRIVERS BEHIND THE CAR BELIEVE THAT IT WILL MOVE WITH THE BRAKE IS RELEASED. BMW REQUIRES THAT THE START-STOP FUNCTION BE ENABLED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.
ELECTRIC WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT FAILURE AT 51,600 MILES. ENGINE/RAD FAN BEGAN TO CYCLE ERRATICALLY; WOULD NOT BLOW HOT AIR TO HEAT INSIDE CABIN, AND GOT A SYSTEM MESSAGE DISPLAY WARNING OF CAR OVER-HEATING AND TO PULL OVER.

TAKATA RECALL AIRBAG. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR BMW DEALERSHIP TO PROVIDE ME WITH A NEW AIRBAG AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR KNOWING THAT IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT THAT THE AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD POSSIBLY KILL ME AND OR ME AND MY CHILDREN.

IT HAS BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS, AND I AM VERY WORRIED THAT I AM DRIVING WITH A POTENTIAL LETAL PRODUCT. I HAVE CALLED THEM A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT THE ANSWER REMAINS THE SAME.
BMW OF SAN ANTONIO DOES NOT HAVE PART AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE RECALL. PARTS AVAILABILITY IS UNKNOWN AND DID NOT RESCHEDULE FOR SAFETY RECALL.

I WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY HAD ASKED TO CALL 1-800 # AND FIND OUT FROM THE COMPANIES HEADQUARTERS WHEN THEY'LL BE AVAILABLE. I DID CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD THAT IT DEPENDS FROM LOCAL DEALER. SO, I WENT BACK TO THE DEVON BMW AND RECEPTIONIST TOLD ME THAT WILL NOTIFY MY ADVISOR AND HE'LL BE BACK WITH INFO, BUT THIS DID NOT HAPPENED. STILL WAITING FOR ANSWER ABOUT 2 MONTHS ALREADY. TAKATA RECALL - ALTHOUGH MY CLIENT WAS ADVISED IN MARCH 2016 OF THE RECALL OF THE POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING FRONT AIR BAG MODULE IN HER 2013 BMW, BMW HAS TO DATE FAILED TO REPLACE THE DEFECT THEREBY CONTINUING TO EXPOSE MY CLIENT TO THE POTENTIAL RISK.

WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION GOES FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND WAS ABLE TO PUT CAR IN PARK, TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND WORKED NORMALLY. TWO DAYS LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND 2 MINUTES BEFORE TAKING THE HIGHWAY AND THIS TIME THE CAR WILL NOT START. THE TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED (REAR WILL WILL NOT MOVE) WITH THE ENGINE SO BEFORE TOWING THE PROCESS TO ALLOWING TOWING IS IMPLEMENTED. TAKEN TO BMW AND THEY SAY ITS NEED A NEW ENGINE. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. NO ANALYSIS OF ANY COMPONENT WAS COMPLETED EXCEPT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER.

VERY POORLY MANAGED BMW RECALL WITH THE RISK OF MAJOR INJURY OR DEATH FOR MALFUNCTIONING AIR-BAG. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER PROVIDED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR HAVING THE CAUSE OF THE RECALL SOLVED AND IT COULD BE ANYTIME AROUND OR PAST DECEMBER 2016. THEY REFERRED TO ME TO MY DEALER TO DISCUSS AVAILABLE ALTERNATIVES TO DRIVE THE RECALLED VEHICLE. THE DEALERS HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR THEIR CLIENTS TO THIS RECALL. THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT DEALERS ARE INFLUENCING THE CLIENTS TOWARD KEEPING THEIR RECALLED VEHICLES AND TO BE EXPOSED TO THE RISK TO SUFFER MAJOR INJURY OR DEATH. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL RESOLUTION MAY TAKE MORE THAN ONE YEAR AND BROUGHT THE EXAMPLE THAT MOST OF THE BMW EMPLOYEES ARE KEEPING THEIR RECALLED VEHICLE. THE SOLUTION THAT THE DEALERS OFFER IS A LIMITED NUMBER OF LOANER VEHICLE (ONLY 10 IN THE CASE OF THE LARGEST DEALERS IN MIAMI) AND THEY HAVE ALREADY RUN OUT OF THEM. THE OTHER OPTION FOR THE CLIENT IS TO RENT A VEHICLE FROM A RENT-A-CAR COMPANY AND THE CLIENT WILL BE REIMBURSED OF THE EXPENSE UNDER A DAILY BUDGET WHEN THE RECALLED VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THIS MEANS THAT THE CLIENT WILL HAVE TO PAY BOTH LEASE/LOAN OF HIS/HER RECALLED VEHICLE AND THE RENTAL OF ANOTHER VEHICLE FOR PROBABLY ONE YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER IS PUTTING THE LIVES OF BWM DRIVERS AT RISK BY DISCHARGING THE RESPONSIBILITY TO SOLVE THE RECALL TO THE DEALERS THAT HAVE NO ENOUGH RESOURCES TO MANAGE SUCH A MASSIVE RECALL CHARACTERIZED BY AN UNDEFINED BUT FOR SURE LONG RESOLUTION TIME. THE DEALERS HAVE NO OTHER OPTION TO TRY TO HAVE THE CLIENTS KEEP ON DRIVING THEIR RECALLED VEHICLE BY OFFERING ALTERNATIVE EXPENSIVE SOLUTIONS.

SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, I COMPLAINED TO BMW ABOUT A FILMY FOG COLLECTING INSIDE THR WINDSHIELD OF THE VEHICLE. YOU COULD THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD, AND WITHIN 2-3 DAYS, THE FILM WOULD RETURN. THIS WOULD CAUSE DIFFICULTY SEEING THROUGH THR WINDSHIELD, ESPECIALLY AT DUSK AND DAWN. I CLEANED MY WINDSHIELD CONTINUOUSLY FOR APPX 1.5 YEARS, ALL THE WHILE COMPLAINING TO MY DEALER AND BMW CORPORATE. I WAS TOLD NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO MEASURE HOW MUCH BUILDUP ON A WINDSHIELD CAUSED A SAFETY HAZARD, SO THERE WAS NO RECALL OR ANYTHING BMW COULD OR WOULD . SINCE I MAINLY DRIVE AT THISE HOURS, IT WAS A DAILY ISSUE FOR ME. SO, WITH RELUCTANCE WE WERE FORCED TO LOSE MONEY AND TRADE THE VEHICLE IN FOR ANOTHER BRAND.........AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE BMW TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE.
WROTE LAST YEAR TO EXPLAIN THAT DUE TO FOG/FILM GATHERING ON THE INTERIOR WINDSHIELD, VISIBILITY WAS REDUCED. SINCE THAT TIME, VISIBILITY HAS BEECOME SEVERELY LIMITED AND, BECAUSE THIS FOG/FILM COULD NOT BE REMOVED, WE HAD THE SUBSTANCE TESTED. BIS(2-ETHYLHEXYL) PHTHALATE (DEHP) WAS FOUND. THIS TEST WAS DONE IN FEBRUARY 2015 AND CONFINED TO THE DRIED ON SUBSTANCE. THE FOG/FILM CONTINUES TO LEAK INTO THE CABIN AND FURTHER TESTING WILL BE DONE TO DETERMINE IF THERE ARE ADDITIONAL SUBSTANCES DETECTED.

I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY TO TRY AND GET TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP (45 MILES AWAY), AND AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES (GOING ABOUT 50 MPH) IT GOT REALLY BAD. IT STARTED TO SHAKE SO MUCH I HAD TO PULL OVER QUICKLY - AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE, I STAYED IN THE RIGHT LANE KNOWING THAT I MIGHT HAVE TO PULL OVER. I COULD HAVE EASILY GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT WERE I IN THE LEFT OR MIDDLE LANES BECAUSE OF THE DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED. I THEN GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP (BMW OF WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA), AND THEY TOLD ME IT HAD A FAULTY INJECTOR AND SO THEY REPLACED ALL OF THEM. I ASKED THEM WHY THE FUEL INJECTORS FAILED - THEY SAID: "SOMETIMES YOU JUST GET A BAD CAR OUT OF THE BATCH." TODAY, I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. IT STARTED SHAKING BADLY, ENGINE MALFUNCTION ERROR, ETC. I HAD IT TOWED TO BMW OF MANHATTAN. ONE OF THE SERVICE REPS OVER THERE SAID, WHEN ASKED HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, SAID THAT "SOMETIMES INJECTORS FAIL OUT OF THE BOX. WE'LL SEND THE PARTS TO GERMANY AND THEY'LL DISSECT THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED." BMW OF MANHATTAN IS CURRENTLY REPLACING ALL FUEL INJECTORS AND SPARK PLUGS, WHICH WERE FLOODED WITH FUEL BECAUSE OF THE MISFIRING FUEL INJECTORS. NO ONE, NOT EVEN BMW OF NORTH AMERICA WHOM I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES, IS WILLING TO GIVE ME A PROPER ANSWER ON WHY THE INJECTORS FAILED, NOR ARE THEY WILLING TO GIVE ME ANY GUARANTEES AS TO THE SAFETY OF MY CAR, NOR ARE THEY WILLING TO MAKE ANY REPARATIONS FOR WHAT HAPPENED. *TR
PROBLEM DETECTED AUGUST 2013. CREEPING STICKY-FOG ACROSS LOWER PORTION OF WINDSHIELD WHICH WAS "DIAGNOSED" MARCH-JUNE 2014 AS FUMES RESULTING FROM GLUE AND SUBSTANCES ON/IN DASH, SEATS, ETC.,INTERIOR VEHICLE COMPARTMENT. BEGAN IN AUGUST 2013 AS "FOG" ON PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD. EVENTUALLY SPREAD TO DRIVER'S SIDE, OBSTRUCTING DRIVING VISIBILITY. BMW ENGINEER TOLD SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALERSHIP, 6/17/14, ALL VEHICLES PURCHASED IN US, PAST YEAR, HAVE SAME SUBSTANCES AND RESULTING VAPORS. BESIDES VISIBILITY ISSUES, I NEED TO KNOW IF THESE "FUMES" ARE A HEALTH RISK! BMW ENGINEER BLAMED THE CONTINUED VISIBILITY/VAPOR ISSUE ON ME-OWNER/DRIVER BECAUSE VEHICLE NOT PARKED IN A GARAGE AND VEHICLE HAS LOW MILEAGE. COULD NOT STATE IF FUMES/VAPORS WERE TOXIC. *TR
ON 4/26/14 THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT OF THIS VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN A RETRACTED POSITION. DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO PULL SEAT BELT OUT OF RETRACTED POSITION TO USE. CONTACTED BMW ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT ANY MALFUNCTION WITH THE SEAT BELT WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED. REQUESTED THAT WE TRY PULLING HARDER ON THE SEAT BELT, DRIVER APPLIED WHAT HE FELT WAS ENOUGH FORCE TO POTENTIALLY BREAK THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THE SEAT BELT RELEASED. NO FURTHER ISSUES THAT EVENING. NEXT DAY, 4/27/14, THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT AND AUDIBLE ALARM CONTINUED TO SOUND AFTER THE SEAT BELT WAS ENGAGED. SEAT BELT WAS TAKEN OFF AND ALLOWED TO RETRACT AND THEN REBUCKLED, WARNING LIGHT AND AUDIBLE ALARM CONTINUED TO SOUND AFTER THE SEAT BELT WAS ENGAGED. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. SAME SITUATION. DROVE TO DEALER AND LEFT CAR TO HAVE ISSUE ADDRESSED WHEN DEALER OPENED ON MONDAY. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE ISSUES, INSTRUCTED LEASE HOLDERS TO PICK UP VEHICLE WITH NO CORRECTION OF ISSUE MADE. LEASE HOLDERS REFUSED, CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD INTERVENE, AS LEASE HOLDERS WERE AFRAID TO OPERATE VEHICLE WITH MALFUNCTIONING SEAT BELT. BMW NORTH AMERICA ALSO INDICATED VEHICLE SHOULD BE PICKED UP. AFTER SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS WITH SERVICE ADVISOR AND THEN A LAWYER, ASKED THAT THE VEHICLE BE KEPT FOR A FEW MORE DAYS OF TESTING OR THAT THE LEASE BE TERMINATED BECAUSE LEASE HOLDERS DID NOT FEEL IT WOULD BE SAFE TO OPERATE. AFTER THIS REQUEST WAS MADE THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY TO ASSIST WITH LEASE HOLDER'S "PEACE OF MIND." I AM OF THE OPINION THAT IF A VEHICLE'S SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTIONS IT SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED TO RESTRAIN THE DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITHOUT REQUIRING THE VOLUME OF REQUESTS WE MADE BEFORE THE REPAIR WAS OFFERED. *TR
RECALL NO 13V-454 BRAKES/VACUUM PUMP OIL SUPPLY MY COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE FAILURE OF BMW TO COMPLETE ITS LEGAL OBLIGATION TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE (AND ABOUT 76000 OTHERS APPARENTLY) UNDER RECALL NO 13V-454. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN DECEMBER (DATED NOVEMBER 2012) INFORMING ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS BEING RECALLED AS PART OF THIS CAMPAIGN TO FIX A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS BRAKE PROBLEM. THE LETTER INDICATED THAT WE WOULD BE TOLD WHEN TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS. TO DATE, I HAVE RECEIVED NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM BMW NA. I HAVE CALLED BOTH MY LOCAL DEALER AND BMW NA, BUT SO FAR HAVE RECEIVED NO ANSWER TO MY QUESTIONS. I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF ALL AFFECTED OWNERS WHO HAVE NOT HAD THEIR VEHICLES REPAIRED/CHECKED AND WHO HAVE APPARENTLY NOT RECEIVED ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM BMW. BMW HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS IN A TIMELY MANNER AND IF NEED BE REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE N20/N60 CAMSHAFT WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY, IF THEY CANNOT PROVIDE DEALERS WITH A LESS EXPENSIVE REPAIR SOLUTION. BRAKE DEFECTS SHOULD BE REPAIRED IN A TIMELY MANNER (I NOTE THAT BMW REPLACED CAMSHAFTS IN MANY VEHICLES SLATED FOR SALE LAST SUMMER). BMW KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM LAST SUMMER, ISSUED A RECALL IN SEPTEMBER 2012 AND YET STILL HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLES IN QUESTION. I'M FORMALLY ASKING BMW TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION OF THE MATTER AND DO WHAT IT IS NECESSARY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLES UNDER RECALL ARE REPAIRED BEFORE THERE IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER REPLACE BRAND NEW TIRE FROM BMW OF ROCKVILLE MD, EVERYDAY I DROVE TO WORK THE CAR VARIATION WILL INCREMENT LITTLE BY LITTLE. I HAVE CONTACT BMW OF ROCKVILLE MD AND BMW NORTH AMERICAN CASE #[XXX]. BOTH BMW OF ROCKVILLE MD AND BMW NORTH AMERICAN STATED HAVE TO WAITING UNTIL THE INCIDENT HAPPEN OR BECOME WORSE ISSUES IN ORDER TO FIX IT. THE STEPS I DID AT THE BMW OF ROCKVILLE MD REPLACE 4 BRAND NEW TIRE 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT TIRE BALANCING AND ROTATION RAM TEST. I WAS GOING 50 MPH ON THE SAWMILL PARKWAY. THERE WAS A RED LIGHT AHEAD AND I TOUCHED THE BRAKES TO STOP. THE CAR DID NOTHING SO I PUSHED HARDER ON THE PEDAL. IT TOOK A LOT OF STRENGTH TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. I CONTINUED 20 MINUTES TO MY GARAGE IN MANHATTAN WITH NO INCIDENT. I ARRIVED HOME TO FIND A RECALL LETTER FROM BMW INFORMING ME OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER BRAKES: "RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 13V-454: VACUUM PUMP OIL SUPPLY". WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY HAD NO IDEA OF THIS RECALL. WHEN I GO ON BMW'S WEBSITE AND INPUT MY VIN, IT SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE LETTER FROM BMW STATES, "IF YOU NOTICE A DECREASE OF POWER BRAKE ASSIST, DO NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE". THE LETTER ALSO STATES THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS YET IN THIS COUNTRY TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. WHEN I PHONE THE NUMBER TO CONTACT BMW REGARDING THIS MATTER, THERE IS A RECORDING THAT TALKS ABOUT A "BRAKE LIGHT" PROBLEM WITH THE X5 AND NOTHING ABOUT THE BRAKES OF THE X1. MY DEALER TOWED THE CAR AND GAVE ME ANOTHER X1 AS A LOANER. WHEN I INQUIRED IF THE LOANER WAS ALSO PART OF THE RECALL, THEY COULD NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION. THE FACT THAT BMW KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT HAS NOT INFORMED THEIR DEALERS IS RIDICULOUS. ALSO RIDICULOUS IS THE LACK OF INFORMATION COMING FROM GERMANY REGARDING THIS RECALL. *TR
THE BRAKES POWER ASSIST FAILED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN IN A LOW SPEED RESIDENTIAL AREA. BRAKES REQUIRED MORE EFFORT BUT THEY DID EVENTUALLY GRAB, ALTHOUGH NOT BEFORE MOMENTUM CARRIED THE VEHICLE PARTIALLY INTO CROSS-TRAFFIC. AN ALERT DRIVER SOUNDED HIS/HER HORN AND SWERVED SLIGHTLY TO AVOID ME. TO DATE THIS WAS A ONE-TIME INCIDENT, BUT I HAVE BEEN KEEPING UNNECESSARY DRIVING TO A MINIMUM. UPON LEARNING THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MY MODEL AND THAT A RECALL IS PENDING, I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO UNTIL A FORMAL RECALL IS ISSUED. I'M DISAPPOINTED THAN AN ISSUE AS SERIOUS AS BRAKES ISN'T SUFFICIENT FOR BMW TO PARK AFFECTED MODELS AND PROVIDE LOANERS OR RENTALS UNTIL A RESOLUTION IS FOUND AND IMPLEMENTED. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DEFECTIVE AIR BAG SYSTEM. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED A CARELESS DRIVER RAN A STOP SIGN AND SHE AND THE OTHER DRIVER HIT EACH PERPENDICULARLY AT MODERATE TO HIGH SPEED. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WAS DONE TO BOTH VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED. *JB

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SPONTANEOUS SHATTERING OF SUN ROOF IN VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE SUN ROOF SUDDENLY FELL APART IN TINY FRAGMENTS OF GLASS ALL OVER HIS SEAT, FLOOR, CLOTHING AND SKIN. NOTHING HIT THE CAR, THERE WERE NO ENVIRONMENTAL INTERFERENCES SUCH AS TRESS, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD IMPEDED, CONSTRICT OR IN ANY WAY COME IN CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE.
