Rod bearings, got rod knock. When is bmw going to fix this? This is my second N55 engine to dies from this problem, first one being my 3 series. They should be held accountable for this problem.
CAR HAS ONLY 37,777 MILES AND THE MOTOR/ENGINE IS LOUD KNOCKING. ALWAYS ON TIME THE MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN SUPPLIED BY THE BMW DEALER SINCE CAR WAS NEW. I HEARD THAT THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING SIMILAR VEHICLES. CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY.
I own a 2013 BMW X5 with the soft-close door feature. On June 2, 2021, I was making a right-hand turn when the driver's door flew all the way open without warning. The door then slammed shut as I finished the turn, injuring my left wrist. It was determined that the soft-close door latch mechanism is failing and needs replaced. The soft-close latch does not consistently secure the driver's door. No warning was given by the vehicle to indicate the door is open or not latched properly. I informed BMWNA of the issue and they declined to offer any assistance with the repair, estimated to cost $900.
As I was exiting a public Starbucks parking lot near my home with my foot on the brake slowly releasing it (as I had a car in front and behind me) my 2013 BWM X5 accelerated on it's own. I quickly glanced at the pedals thinking I might have stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, but no. My foot was on the brake. I stomped on the brake as hard as I could while the vehicle was jerking and stalling. The car in front of me exited the parking lot and luckily I didn't crash into it. This kept going for about a minute it was as if I had been stepping on the accelerator and brake at the same time. I tried turning off the vehicle, but nothing happened. Finally, after about a minute (or maybe a little more) the engine turned off and the car stopped moving. There was an ATM the right of me with a few people making line. They offered to help me push the vehicle out of the way as I was blocking a very tight parking lot exit, but I was unable to put the car on neutral, drive or anything. I was in shock and very scared of what had just happened. I had my car towed to the nearest auto repair shop where I explained the situation the the auto repair people. I was advised to call BWM as the repair shop was unwilling to give me a diagnosis due to the nature of the incident. I called BMW of North America, reported the incident and after about 2 weeks BWM had my vehicle towed to BMW of San Diego where an investigation was going to be done. After 3-4 weeks I received the results. Since the engine did not start they could not find the cause of what made the vehicle accelerate on it's own in such a way. They did have other irrelevant findings like an after market oil filter and debris in the oil. The final report was that the engine had to be replaced. I asked for an estimate from BMW and they came back with $20,993.50 (which is more than what I paid for the car). Even if I was to replace the engine, I don't trust the car anymore. BMW of San Diego is holding my car as a courtesy.
AFTER THE PASSENGER WOULD VACATE THE CAR THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT ALARM WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON TILL I WOULD TAKE ACTION BY HITTING THE SEAT WITH MY PALM. I TRIED THREE TIMES IN HAVING THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE SEAT PAD SENSOR WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. AFTER THE WARRANT EXPIRED I RETURNED IT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN THEY SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE SEAT PAD SENSOR. (UGH)
PASSENGER SEAT - SEAT/AIRBAG OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILED. THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT REMAINS LIT. BMW SAID NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR - $3,000. APPARENTLY AIRBAG AND SEATBELT WILL NOT ENGAGE IF SENSOR IS NOT WORKING
AFTER DROPPING OFF MY BMW X5M FOR SERVICE AT A BMW DEALERSHIP ON 01/27/2021, (THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS), BMW CALLED US, TO INFORM US THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY HOME, WITHOUT STOPPING, (20 MILES), PARKED THE VEHICLE IN OUR GARAGE, TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND TEN MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED THROUGHOUT AND ALSO BURNING HALF OUR GARAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND NOT IN MOTION AND COMPLETELY TURNED OFF.
I HAVE TO ADD COOLANT, I HAVE CHECKED WITH DEALER AND SAID PRESSURE TANK IS LEAKING, REPLACE THE TANK , STILL PROBLEM IS THERE, I TOLD THEM WHEN I TURN ON HEAT, MY EYES ARE BURNING TOO, THEY ASK ME TO REPLACE THE TANK, SO I DID, COOLANT STILL LEAK, SO DIAGNOSIS IS NOT WRIGHT. EYES BURNING WAS HAPPENING SINCE LONG TIME, BUT I NOTICE IN DECEMBER, I WAS GOING TO EYE DOCTOR,
ENGINE FAILED BECAUSE THE CRANKSHAFT GOT SO HOT IT FUSED THE CRANKSHAFT AND THE BEARINGS CAUSING THE COMPLETE FAILURE AND REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE. BMW HAS HAD NUMEROUS CLAIMS OF ENGINE FAILURES IN THE X5 BUT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE ONLY HAD 84K MILES AND THEN WITHOUT WARNING, NO OIL LEAKS, NO HOT ENGINE RED LIGHTS, NOTHING AT ALL TO SPEAK OF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAVEL, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE BMW DEALERSHIP IN BAY SHORE NY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR THREE WEEKS AND REALLY DIDN'T OPEN THE ENGINE UP TO FIND THE CAUSE. AFTER BMWUSA SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO RESOLVE THEIR LATENT DEFECT IN THE ENGINE OBVIOUSLY METAL PARTS WHICH WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION WERE INFERIOR, I HAD THE ENGINE TAKEN OUT BY A CERTIFIED TRAINED A MECHANIC. HE STATED HE HAS NEVER SEE A MELTDOWN OF PARTS WHICH WELDED TOGETHER FROM THE EXTREME HEAT OF THE ENGINE. NO LEAK WERE DETECTED FOR EITHER COOLANT OR OIL YET THE ENGINE SEIZED SIMPLY FOR THE FACT, THE METAL USED INTERNALLY IS INFERIOR. FOR THE PRICE YOU PAID FOR THE "ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE", BMWUSA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND BE HONEST ABOVE THE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE PLAGUED THEIR ENGINES AND THEIR COOLING SYSTEM. I HAVE SPEND OVER $15,000 TO GET THIS VEHICLE REPAIRED AND BMWUSA SHOULD REIMBURSE ME BECAUSE OF IT'S KNOWN HISTORY. I HAVE OWNED BMWS SINCE 1992 AND THE VEHICLES LASTED PASSED 175K MILES. TO HAVE A MAJOR ENGINE FAIL AT 84K SPEAKS VOLUMES TO THE LACK OF INTEGRITY FOR THE ENGINE. BMW IS USING STEEL AND METAL THAT HAVE SIGNIFICANT STRENGTH PROBLEMS AS DOCUMENTED BY ALL THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOVE. FAILED ORIGINAL ELECTRIC ENGINE COOLANT PUMP AND THE COOLANT THERMOSTAT
MY WATER PUMP FAILED AT 57,000 MILES WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR STALLED AT 30 MPH UNTIL I COULD FINALLY EXIT. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER LEAVING TWO MESSAGES ON BMW DEALER VOICE MAIL, I WAS TOWED TO NEAREST AUTO SHOP THAT I HAD USED PREVIOUSLY. $1450 IN REPAIRS FOR FAULTY WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT (BAD DESIGN FLAW - ELECTRONIC SENSOR ISSUE? ) BMW WILL NOT REIMBUSRSE ME SINCE REPAIRS WEREN'T DONE AT THEIR REPAIR SHOP, AND HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR 2013'S EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE FOR 2011-2012 MODELS. IT IS UNFAIR TO LIMIT REPAIRS (PER WHAT THEY SAY ARE THE CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED RULES) SINCE I WASN'T AWARE OF THEM, THEY DIDN'T RESPONSD TO ME IN TIME, AND IT WAS OBVIOUSLY AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. SPURIOUS "PASSENGER NOT WEARING SEATBELT" ALERT WHEN THERE IS NO PASSENGER. DIAGNOSED AS "PASSENGER SEAT MAT SENSOR FAULTY" WITH A REPLACEMENT COST OF $2,498.87. SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. APPARENTLY SIMILAR ISSUE LED TO A RECALL IN OLDER BMW VEHICLES.
PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR FOR AIRBAG HAS FAILED. WAS TOLD NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR ANY RECALL, ESTIMATE OF $2,200. WAS TOLD THAT SAFETY SYSTEM IS NOW COMPROMISED FOR PASSENGER.
TL* THE CONTACTS WIFE OWNS A 2013 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED OIL WAS EMERGING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BOLTS FAILED AND THE OIL TANK WAS PUNCTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,971.
THE CARE WAS OFF OVERNIGHT IN THE GARAGE UNLOCKED. IN THE AM, IN THE GARAGE, THERE WAS A SMELL OF BURNT ELECTRONICS. NOTICED SOMETHING ON THE BEHIND THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE AND THE SAME THING DRIPPED DOWN THE DOOR AND SOME ON THE FLOOR. LOOKING CLOSER AT IT, IT APPEARS THAT SOMETHING OVERHEATED IN THE DOOR HANDLE AND MELTED A HOLE IN THE BACKSIDE OF THE HANDLE WHICH CAUSED SOME MELTED MATERIAL, PLASTIC OR RUBBER TO SPRAY ON THE DOOR PANEL AND DRIP DOWN THE DOOR. I CHECKED THE FUSE THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE DOOR HANDLE, SPECIFICALLY THE COMFORT ACCESS FEATURE AND FOUND THE FUSE TO BE BLOWN. THIS ALL HAPPENED OVERNIGHT WITH THE CAR NOT RUNNING OR OTHERWISE OCCUPIED. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE AND SUSPECT THAT THE FUSE DOING IT'S JOB PREVENTED A FIRE FROM OCCURING.
MY X-5 STARTED PRODUCING SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN I REACHED HOME, I DIDN'T SEE THE SMOKE ANYMORE, BUT IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE OIL AT MINIMAL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE GALLERIA BMW DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VALVE GASKET COVER WAS BROKEN AND THAT OIL WAS LEAKING OUT, CAUSINGTHE BURNING SMELL. MY LAST OIL CHANGE SERVICE WAS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO HAVING THIS ISSUE, AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE REP, STATED THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH OTHER OLDER MODEL BMWS AND MY TRUCK BEING A 2013 WAS OLD AND ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE WITH BMWS, AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP!

WHEN WE ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS/HESITATES TO THE POINT WHERE IT FEELS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN WE TOOK THE X5 TO THE MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS ODD THAT THERE WOULD BE A TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE ON THE X5, WHICH WAS AT 67000 MILES AT THE TIME. WHEN I RESEARCHED ONLINE IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR OUR MAKE/MODEL, I LEARNED THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHER OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM -- MANY, IN FACT, DEMANDED THAT BMW OR THE NHTSA RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM (HTTP://WWW.CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/BMW/X5/TRANSFER-CASE-PROBLEMS.PHP). I, ALONG WITH OTHER OWNERS FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL, BELIEVE THAT THIS TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM IS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO WARRANT A RECALL AS THE VEHICLE FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT HAS FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. THIS MEANS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS NOT ACTIVE. IT HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE PAST BY BMW MULTIPLE TIMES, 17V605 AND 17V428, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. HOWEVER, THIS APPEARS TO STILL BE AN ISSUE.
DOORS WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUT . YOU CAN OPEN ONLY THE DRIVERS DOOR WITH THE KEY ONLY . THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 10 MONTHS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS CAR. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND BMW WILL NOT FIX IT MY WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXSPIREF FOR THREE DAYS. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD FIX IT WHERE IT'S BEEN LESS THAN A YEAR SINCE THE LAST TIME AND IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY .THIS HAPPEN AFTER DRIVING TO WORK CAME OUT TO UNLOCK CAR AND NOTHING WOULD UNLOCK. ON THURSDAY, MAY 2ND, 2019, MY WIFE AND 19-MONTH OLD SON WERE AT THE PARK AND RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT. MY WIFE HAD THE KEY FOB IN HER BAG. SHE PLACED HER BAG ON THE FLOOR OF THE CAR, JUST BEHIND THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT. SHE PLACED OUR SON IN HIS CAR SEAT, STRAPPED HIM AND CLOSED THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE THEN PROCEEDED TO LOCK ITSELF, THUS LOCKING MY SON IN AND MY WIFE OUT. SHE HAD TO CALL EMS TO COME AND BREAK OPEN THE CAR IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCESS, THIS TOOK CLOSE TO 15-20 MINUTES TOTAL IN WHICH TIME MY SON WAS TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH TEMPS IN EXCESS OF 100 DEGREES AS IT WAS ABOUT 90 OUTSIDE AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH BMW'S COMFORT ACCESS FEATURE. THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN ONE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR OWNERS TO RECOVER EXPENSES, HOWEVER I FEEL THIS IS A BIGGER ISSUE. IF A PERSON OR PET, WHO ARE UNABLE TO OPERATE DOORS OR LOCKS, GET TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE IT COULD VERY EASILY RESULT IN DEATH UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. WHEN THEY PULLED HIM FROM THE CAR HE WAS SOAKEDDD IN SWEAT, GLOSSY EYED AND OUT OF IT. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE THAT NO ONE SHOULD EVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH AND I FEEL BMW SHOULD STEP UP AND FIX THESE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
WHILE DRIVING ONE RAINY AFTERNOON ON A CITY ROAD, I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE SMOKE TURNED INTO FLAMES. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED 911. AN OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICER STOPPED AND HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. HE WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT MOST OF THE FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP AND FINISHED THE JOB. THE FIREMEN THOUGHT THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE. THE BMW DEALER SAID THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE WIPER MOTOR. THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER THE PREVIOUS WEEK FOR THE AIR BAG RECALL.
MY 2013 BMW X5 35D WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, WHEN IT STALLED, LOST ALL POWER AND ULTIMATELY WOULD NOT RESTART. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE, BUT NOT OFF THE ROAD AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A STILL UNIDENTIFIED SOURCED, FUEL LEAK INTO THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS AND FINALLY POOLING INTO THE DDE COMPONENT, FRYING THE DDE COMPONENT TO FAILURE. THERE WAS ENOUGH FUEL IN THE DDE COMPONENT THAT IT WAS DRAINED INTO A DRIP PAN AND FUEL COVERED THE WIRING CONNECTION POINTS AS WELL AS HAD DISCOLORED THE WIRING. I WAS INFORMED THAT HAD THIS BEEN A GAS ENGINE AND NOT DIESEL, IT WOULD HAVE PROBABLY CAUGHT ON FIRE AS FUEL WAS ABLE TO ACCESS AND TRAVEL ACROSS THE ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THE CAR. BMW HAS REFUSED TO HELP IN ANYWAY TO INVESTIGATING THE REASONING FOR THIS HAPPENING AND OR ANY REPAIRS THAT WOULD BE INVOLVED AS THEY "DO NOT HAVE A FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY" I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO DISCOVER THE REASONING WITHOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF EVIDENCE THAT A FIRE WOULD HAVE CAUSED AND THEY ARE CHOOSING NOT TO DO SO AS TO CLAIM IGNORANCE TO THE SAFETY ISSUES THAT THIS HAPPENING REPRESENTS.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 76 MPH WHEN A MESSAGE CAME UP TELLING ME "ENGINE HOT DRIVE MODERATELY." I CONTINUED TO DRIVE ANOTHER 3 MILES WHEN THE LIGHT MYSTERIOUSLY SHUT OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WHEN I REACHED COLUMBIA. THEY DETERMINED THE WATER PUMP HAS FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS 83,XXX MILES. HAD I NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE SHOP TODAY AND DROVE IT AFTER THE LIGHT WENT OFF THE ENGINE COULD HAVE BEEN RUINED OR POSSIBLY THE X5 CAUGHT ON FIRE IF THE LIGHT DIDN'T COME BACK ON.

THE DOOR FAILURE TRAPS THE OCCUPANT IN THE CAR AND IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT WITH POWER LOSS, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EXIT THE CAR.

ALL DOORS ON VEHICLE WERE LOCKED AND UNABLE TO OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. ONLY DRIVERS DOOR WAS ABLE TO OPEN WITH KEY. DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY FRONT RIGHT WITH ACTUATOR MOTOR FAILURE CAUSING CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM FUSE TO BLOW. REPAIR INVOICE ATTACHED.

SHE CLOSED THE REAR DOOR AND THE DOOR LOCKS IMMEDIATELY LOCKED WITH NO INPUT FROM MY WIFE. THE CAR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. POLICE WERE CALLED AND BROKE OUT THE REAR WINDOW. THEY WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR USING THE INTERIOR HANDLE. THEY HAD TO RETRIEVE THE KEY FOB FROM THE BAG, BRING IT OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE, AND AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS WERE ABLE TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME, I WAS ABLE TO RECORD VIDEO OF THE LOCKS RANDOMLY LOCKING WITHOUT USER INPUT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRAMAN BMW BACK IN AUGUST, 2017 FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE AND THE LEFT/FRONT DOOR HANDLE WAS REPLACED. IT IS DISCONCERTING THAT OCCUPANTS CAN BE RANDOMLY LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY AND NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE INTERIOR HANDLES TO OPEN THE DOORS.

AFTER BEING TOWED TO A SHOP IT WAS REVEALED THE PARKING BRAKE HAD PARTIALLY ACTIVATED, DRAGGED THE SHOES UNTIL THEY WERE WORN DOWN, MADE METAL TO METAL CONTACT WITH THE ROTOR HAT AND CREATED ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT ALL ASSOCIATED HARDWARE ON BOTH SIDES. UNDER SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES IT IS NOT UNLIKELY THAT ONE OR BOTH REAR WHEELS COULD HAVE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT. THE ERROR MESSAGE ASSOCIATED WITH FAILURE OF THIS MODULE IS HIGHLY MISLEADING, SINCE IT SEEMS WITH THE FAILURE OF THIS MODULE THE VEHICLE HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING WHETHER THE PARKING BRAKE IS ENGAGED OR NOT.

THESE ARE RUN FLAT TIRES THAT BOTH FAILED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF EACH OTHER. THE "INNER WALL" HAD COMPLETELY SEPERATED FROM THE FIRST TIRE RENDERING IT FLAT. NO APPARENT OTHER WARNING, NO SYMPTONS SUCH AS STEAM FROM BLOWN HOSE OR HOLE IN RADIATOR. VEHICLE 4 YEARS OLD W/69K MILES; WATER PUMP & THERMOSTAT WENT BAD. $1500 REPAIR. APPARENTLY BMW KNOWINGLY MANUFACTURED X5 WITH INFERIOR WATER PUMP W/50K WARRANTY. THIS IS ONLY COMING TO LIGHT TO CUSTOMERS NOW SINCE X5'S ARE OVERHEATING AFTER WARRANTY. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY WITH VEHICLE JUST SHUTTING DOWN ENROUTE IN THE MIDDLE OF ROAD. FOR A LUXURY VEHICLE MANUFACTURER THIS IS A MAJOR FAIL AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED.

SUFFERED AN ENGINE KILL AT 65MPH DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. WE RECEIVED A WARNING THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR. VERY FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE. CAR TOWED AND PROBLEM PER BMW SERVICE WAS THE WATER PUMP.

ON 4/6/2017 I PARKED MY 2013 BMW X5 AT 7:30PM, AROUND 3AM I HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND THE ALARM GOING OFF . I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND FIRE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ON 3/20/2017 I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE IT DID SOMETHING CRAZY AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON, ALSO THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE FOG LIGHTS. BMW SAID THEY THEY CHANGED THE COIL IN THE ENGINE AND FIXED THE LIGHTS THEY ALSO TOLD US WE NEED TO UPGRADE THE SOS BUTTON OR TAKE A $300 REFUND AND NOT FIX THE SOS SYSTEM . LIKE A BMW SALES SLOGAN ?ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE? I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCE BMW CAR'S JOY OF DRIVING. BUT AFTER FEW MONTH LATER I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HAVE BMW X5. VOICE ACTIVATED NAVIGATION AND COMMUNICATIONS DO NOT WORK AND ARE A DRIVER DISTRACTION DUE DO TO A SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT WORK. SYSTEM IS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A HANDS FREE OPERATION TO ENABLE DRIVERS NOT TO BE DISTRACTED WHILE DRIVING AND PLACING A PHONE CALL OR DIRECTIONS. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IN IS IN MOTION.
AFTER STARTING THE CAR, PUTTING THE CAR IN DRIVE, INITIATING A THREE POINT TURN, AFTER THE FIRST PART OF THE TURN WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED THE CAR WILL JERK, ACCELERATE, LUNGE FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PREVENT ADDITIONAL FORWARD MOTION. THE REVS RHYTHMICALLY SURGED UP AND DOWN BETWEEN 2500RPMS AND IDLE. THE WHOLE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO DRIVE FORWARD. THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE VEHICLE STALLED. WE'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES TO GET THIS FIXED BUT THEY CAN FIND NO FAULT WITH THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS BETWEEN ONCE TO FOUR TIMES PER MONTH. THE CAR HAS ALMOST DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD ON ITS OWN AND CAME CLOSE TO HITTING A PARKED CAR. WE'VE BEEN LUCKY TO GET OUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE BEFORE THAT'S HAPPENED. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS WE SHOULD TAKE THE CAR BACK AS IT'S FINE.
AFTER A CONCERT, I DROVE MY X5 OUT OFF A PARKING LOT WITH MY WIFE. I COULD FEEL A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOMETHING UNCOMMON ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, BUT DID NOT PAY MUCH ATTENTION BECAUSE THERE IS NO SIGN ON INDICATOR BOARD SHOWING THE DOORS DID NOT CLOSED. AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I TURNED TO RIGHT, AND DIVER DOOR OPENED SUDDENLY. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN, AND TRIED TO CLOSE THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING, BUT THE DOOR COULD NOT BE CLOSED. THE DOOR LOCK DID NOT WORK. I PARKED THE CAR AT A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT, AND REALIZED THAT I COULD NOT OPEN OR CLOSE THE DOOR LOCK AFTER TRYING DIFFERENT WAYS. I HAD TO DRIVE TO HOME USING ONE HAND HOLDING THE DOOR AND THE OTHER HAND DRIVING. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, IT IS 2013 MODEL, ONLY ONE AND HALF YEAR SUV.
NO ACCIDENT, JUST A SAFETY ISSUE WITH ACCELERATION DELAY. TOTAL LACK OF ACCELERATION AT A STOP TO GO. THERE IS AN INHERENT LAG UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION KICKS IN AND GOES, ABOUT A HALF SECOND DELAY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT GOOD WHEN TRYING TO GET INTO BUSY TRAFFIC WHETHER AT A LIGHT OR MERGING. I HAVE TALKED TO BMW TAMPA AND RAN A DIAGNOSTIC WITHOUT SUCCESS FOR A FIX. THEY EVEN ADMIT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS BUT BMW GERMANY GUYS THEY SAY WON'T CHANGE THEIR THINKING OR FIX THE ISSUE. IN A NUTSHELL IT'S AS IF THE FUEL DOESN'T GET TO THE INJECTORS UNTIL A .05 DELAY. THIS IS NOT SAFE, POINT BLANK. *TR

ON THE 1ST OCCASION , A 2 Y/O CHILD HAD JUST BEEN STRAPPED INTO HIS CAR SEAT , A PURSE WITH THE KEY INSIDE THE PURSE , WAS PLACED ON THE FLOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SEAT , THE REAR DOOR WAS CLOSED & ALL LOCKS WERE ACTIVATED . THIS OCCURRED IN THE HEAT OF SUMMER & REQUIRED ANOTHER DRIVER WITH A SPARE FOB TO QUICKLY DRIVE TO THE SITE OF THE PARKED CAR & AVOID HAVING TO BREAK A WINDOW . THIS WAS A VERY SCARY MOMENT ! SAME THING HAPPENED ( NO CHILD IN CAR ) ; ALL DOORS LOCKED WHEN A BRIEFCASE CONTAINING BOTH KEY FOBS WAS PLACED ON BACK SEAT & REAR DOOR WAS CLOSED . A CALL TO BMW HOT LINE RESULTED IN THE DOORS BEING UNLOCKED VIA THE AIRWAYS .THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURED THIS WEEK WITH ONLY ONE KEY FOB IN THE CAR . THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY THE LOCAL DEALER & NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND . I WAS COMING DOWN LAKEMONT BLVD (SLOPING DOWNWARDS) AT ABOUT 5 PM AND WHEN I WAS NEARING THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION WITH SE NEWPORT WAY, I STARTED SLOWING DOWN AS I COULD SEE THE LIGHT WAS RED. I PUSHED DOWN ON THE PEDAL BUT THE BRAKE WAS NOT FULLY RESPONSIVE. IT WOULD SLOW DOWN AND SEEM TO BE STOPPING, BUT KEEP GOING. I WAS FEELING A BIT OUT OF CONTROL AND TRIED TO STEER AWAY FROM THE CAR THAT WAS STOPPED AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AND JUST FOR A MOMENT IT SEEMED LIKE THE BRAKE HAD APPLIED AND THE CAR ALMOST STOPPED BUT IT KEPT GOING UNTIL IT CRASHED THE BACK LEFT BUMPER OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF US. WE WERE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMING DOWN PARK DR, WHICH IS A SIMILAR INCLINED DOWNHILL ROAD AND WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO REACH THE INTERSECTION WITH 15TH AVE NE, I STARTED TO BRAKE BUT THE BRAKES RESPONDED VERY SLUGGISHLY - WHERE IT SEEMED TO STOP, BUT THEN KEEP GOING AT LEAST A COUPLE OF TIMES, WITH THE CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPING ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY AND BEING A SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AND WE WERE SAFE. I DISMISSED IT AS A ONE OFF INCIDENT, BUT IT HINDSIGHT IT CAME CLEARLY TO MIND AFTER THE INCIDENT YESTERDAY. *TR
THIS PAST WINTER I TOOK MY BMW IN TWICE (MAR 28, 2014 AND APR 22, 2014) BECAUSE A CLICKING NOISE I HEAR WHEN DRIVING AND IT WAS ASSUMED THAT THE NOISE WAS RELATED TO LOW TEMP OUTSIDE. ON MAY 23, 2014 I NOTICE THE CLICKING NOISE AGAIN. I CURRENTLY HAVE 2548 MILES ON MY CAR. THE ANCHORAGE BMW COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE NOISE. WHEN HAPPEN AGAIN IN APRIL I RECORDED THE NOISE ON MY CELL PHONE AND WAS TOLD THAT DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT WOULD STILL NEED TO REPRODUCE THE NOISE. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT ON MAY 23, TO LET THEM KNOW I WAS HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. THUS FAR I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RETURN PHONE CALL. I STILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT WOULD BE CAUSING A NEW CAR TO MAKE CLICKING NOISE. *TR
