The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the air bag message “Service Air Bag” and the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the passenger’s side seat air bag sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist as his VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
There is a bearing that fails in the motor which is a safety issue and should be recalled. It causes the engine/transmission to lock up and become inoperable which can result in a crash. They even issued a bulletin regarding it (PIP5081), yet they have been refusing to cover it under warranty for me as well. This needs to be recalled and all affected owners should be reimbursed for any expenses they paid regarding this issue. General Motors must be held accountable for this safety issue. This has been confirmed by the dealer and all of these vehicles are experiencing the issue.
My 2013 Volt has turned off while driving on multiple occasions, usually while on the highway. I have taken it to the Chevy dealer on several occasions and they are unable to find the problem. The vehicle "Propulsion System" warning has come on when the car suddenly decelerated while on the highway and eventually turned off. The vehicle is at the Chevy dealer who tells me they cells were not balanced and is no longer functioning. They are unable to replace the battery because Chevy is not releasing them so now the car is a paperweight in their parkinglot. Stopping on the highway is a serious problem.
Tire pressure dose not hold air to recommended tire pressure. Passenger tire seem to control pressure on all four tires.once tire pressure is inflated to recommended pressure. All four tires deflate and inflated to uneven pressure after driving. Vehicle was seen by Terry Cullen johnsboro ga. They said the passenger rim need to be replaced 800.00. But I ask about the rubber oring around the valve stem replace, they said no oring on the valve stim. I ask about a valve replaced they said no a new tire is the best they could do. My gas milage dropped to 28 miles a gal from 40. This is a critical fix for a car that has no spare tire.
Seat airbag sensor malfunctioning: Looked up issue on forum and found reference to NHTSA Action Number PE19013.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that the vehicle would not charge. The contact stated that the "service high voltage charging system" warning message was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
If nobody is in the passenger seat it gives a warning to check the airbag. If someone is in the seat there is no issue. I’ve seen others report this online and it appears to be a $1,200 defect. People won’t pay to repair this so it becomes a safety issue.
Before battery ran out went to gas, I got the Propulsion Power Limited warning on the dash slowed gradually to a halt, next day car is dead, it won't start or change, nothing. Code P0AFA and P1E00. All recalls were done a year before
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Volt. The contact’s husband stated that while attempting to park the vehicle while driving approximately 1 mph, the brakes would not function. The contact stated that the stabilitrak warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,388.
The dashboard airbag warning light comes on, car chimes, and front passenger air bag status changes between on/off intermittently when there is someone sitting in the front passenger seat. I'm afraid the airbag system is faulty and won't deploy when needed. This is an ongoing problem.
Passenger Pressence Module Failure resulting in faulty passenger side airbag failure and a failed state inspection. Repair quoted as $1100 plus tax
The air bag service light would come on if the passenger leave the car in parking mode, the light will clear itself after some time. Search online and found it's a very common problem in 2012/2013 chevy volt because of a faulty sensor under the seat, I think GM should do a recall for this since it's a design/manufacture fault.
has had the blank screen display the vehicle is unsafe to drive. One can run out of electrical power and or gas and not know, stop on the highway and be in harms way. no turn signals, no speed indication at all, nothing. this is recall worthy! and needs to be addressed by chevy.
VEHICLE HAS STOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. DURING THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WILL POST AN ERROR ON THE DASH SCREEN. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE TRANSITIONS FROM ELECTRIC FUEL TO GASOLINE, WHEN THE ELECTRIC FUEL IS DEPLETED. CHEVY REFUSES TO REPAIR OR WARRANTY THE VEHICLE, ALSO THE DEALER REFUSES TO COMPLETE THE NECESSARY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RETURN TO NORMAL UNTIL YOU TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES.
WHENEVER ANY WEIGHT IS APPLIED TO THE PASSENGER SEAT, A SERVICE AIRBAGS ERROR COMES UP AND THE RED AIRBAG SIGNAL ILLUMINATES SIGNALING THAT THE AIBAG IS TURNED OFF FOR PASSENGERS. THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON HOW TO TURN IT BACK ON
THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILS WAS FAILING. THE CHECK AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHILE DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. THIS WOULD DISABLE THE AIRBAG (WHEN THE CHECK AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT INDICATING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS ENABLED SWITCHES TO OFF.) THIS IS A DANGEROUS FAILURE. IF THE CAR KNOWS THAT THE SENSOR HAS FAILED THEN THE 'SAFE' CONDITION SHOULD BE TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS OR THE 'SEAT OCCUPIED' CONDITION SHOULD BE 'LATCHED TRUE' UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPS. (A PASSENGER CANNOT SUDDENLY DISAPPEAR WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING AT 35 OR 40 MPH). THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY IN 2020 AND 2021. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE - WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS THE ISSUE STARTED AGAIN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER APRIL-2021 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
MY CAR HAS ABOUT 76K MILES ON IT AND SUDDENLY GIVES A WARNING ABOUT "SERVICE AIRBAG" ON 4/4/2021. I HAVE NOT BEEN IN A WRECK, SPED OVER POTHOLES, OR HAVE ANY DAMAGE TO MY CAR SO I AM UNSURE WHY THIS LIGHT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED (I RECEIVED THIS WARNING PRIOR TO LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY THAT AFTERNOON). IT IS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG THAT IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR WARNING FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT GOES OFF EVERY TIME I DRIVE REGARDLESS IF THERE IS A PERSON OCCUPYING THE SEAT OR NOT. HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER WHO SAYS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THAT THE AIRBAGS WORK FINE AND THE ONLY REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE SEAT SENSOR FOR $1000. QUESTION IS WILL THE AIRBAGS WORK PROPERLY OR NOT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH?? I HEAR THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION OPEN FOR THIS ISSUE PE19013.
MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WARNING CAME ON MY CLUSTER INDICATING THAT IT NEEDED SERVICE WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR BUT THE COST TO FIX IT'S OUTRAGEOUS SO I HAVEN'T FIXED IT AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS MATTER BECAUSE IT'S HAPPENING TO MANY CHEVY VOLT OWNERS.
SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING COMES ON OFTEN WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. WILL BEEP AND COME BACK ON EVERY TIME THE PASENGER MOVES. EVEN WITH NO PASSENGER IT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON. WHEN IT DOES COME ON, THE AIR BAG DISPLAY WILL SWITCH TO OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER STATIONARY OR MOVING AND ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME DUE TO THE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE FIX OF THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR.
THE VOLT IS DISPLAYING MANUFACTURER CONTROL ERROR CODE P1 E00$07E8 AND IS NOT CHARGING. ON THE DASH, THE MESSAGE DISPLAYS AS "SERVICE HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING SYSTEM". THIS IS A SOFTWARE ERROR THAT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO CORRECT ON THE 2013 CHEVROLET VOLTS AT NO COST TO OWNERS.
WITHIN A YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR IS APPARENTLY FAILING. MY CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF WHEN PASSENGERS OR MILD OR HEAVY OBJECTS ARE SITTING IN THE SEAT OR EVEN SHIFTING POSITION IN THE SEAT MAKES THE CHECK AIRBAG NOTIFICATION APPEAR ON DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN. IT'S AN ANNOYING NOTIFICATION AT LEAST. AND NOT SURE IF ALL THE AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY IF THE NEED TO. I'VE ADDRESSED THIS BEFORE WITHOUT WORD FROM THIS GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION.
SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING POPS UP WHEN PASSENGER IS SEATED AND MOVES IN SEAT. SOMETIMES TURNS OFF THEIR AIRBAG. RECENTLY WITHIN THE PAST YEAR THE DRIVER SIDE IS ALSO MALFUNCTIONING SAYING TO SERVICE DUE TO SEAT SENSORS. VEHICLE CAN BE STATIONARY OR DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURRS.
SERVICE AIR BAG CAME ON DISPLAY. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON AND COSTLY PROBLEM WITH 2013 VOLTS. IS THERE ANY WAY THIS FIX CAN BE COVERED?
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENT FOR FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE UN-COMMANDED SELF ACCELERATION ISSUES IN MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT INCLUDING MY CONTACT INFORMATION. THANK YOU!
SERVICE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING INDICATOR PERIODICALLY GOES ON AND OFF IN A SEEMINGLY RANDOM MANNER. CAR USSUALLY STARTS WITH SERVICE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING / ERROR ON AND OFTEN TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING TO LATER BEEP AND COME BACK ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. INDICATES FAILURE OF SENSOR UNDER PASSENGER SEAT. NHSTA IS CURRENTLY RUNNING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER AND THIS CAR IS EFFECTED.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS HAS STARTED TO CONTINUALLY TURN ON -- EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO PROBLEM. I THINK THE SENSOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED.
REPAIR AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT KEEPS GOING ON. IT IS DUE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. IF THERE IS NO ONE ON THE SEAT, THE LIGHT WILL REMAIN OFF BUT THE MOMENT ANY PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE SEAT, THE WARNING LIGHT COMES OFF. IT APPEARS THE SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR MAT IS FAILING WHICH IS CONCERNING BECAUSE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS COSTLY TO REPAIR. THE LIGHT WILL TURN ON REGARDLESS IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING. PER ONLINE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED ISSUE THAT OTHER VOLT OWNERS ARE REPORTING. THEY HAVE AN OPEN INVESTIGATION STILL GOING FROM 2019, HOW CAN THIS PROBLEM BE FIXED WITHOUT UNNECESSARY HIGH COSTS? THIS IS A PROBLEM.
AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. REPAIR COST ESTIMATE IS ~$1000.
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WILL RANDOMLY DEACTIVATE. IT HAPPENS WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE VEHICLE AND WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT OCCUPIED. WARNING ON INSTRUMENT PANEL AND LIGHT OVERHEAD SHOWS AIRBAG 'OFF'. STATTED TO OCCUR AT APPROXIMATELY 113,870 MILES.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SEATBELT SENSOR FAULTY AND GIVES NOTICE ON DISPLAY. INTERMITTENTLY STOPS TURNING ON PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN IT. I HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND DOES IT EVERYTIME WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF POSTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE FILED THIS SAME COMPLAINT WITH NO RESPONSE.
GETTING A MESSAGE ALERT "SERVICE AIRBAG" FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. IT WILL TURN OFF AND ON WHEN A PASSENGER IS SEATED. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. I THINK CHEVY IS AT FAULT AND SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIR BAG. WAS TOLD BY A DEALER THAT IT WAS THE PASSENGER DETECTION SENSOR NOT WORKING AND NEEDS A 1,000 DOLLAR FIX TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL NOT ENABLE WITH FULL SIZE PASSENGER IN FRONT SEAT.
THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE THAT CAUSES WATER TO LEAK IN AND POOL IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD. THERE ARE LOTS OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS NEAR WHERE THIS WATER POOLS THAT COULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE.
1) PASSENGER AIR BAG NOTICES KEEPS COMING ON DESPITE THERE BEING NO PASSENGER. ONLY GOES AWAY WHEN I BUCKLE THE SEATBELT 2)PASSENGER SEATBELT WARNING KEEPS COMING ON, ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS BY BUCKLING SEATBELT 3)AIRBAR LIGTHT GOES ON AND OFF. WILL INDICATE IT NEEDS SERVICE AND THEN GO AWAY FOR A DAY OR TWO BEFORE COMING BACK ON. 4) DRIVE ROTOR BEARING. HAD IT REPAIRED AND WITHIN A FEW MONTHS STARTED MAKING SAME NOISES AGAIN. COMMON ISSUE WITH EARLY GENERATION VOLTS BASED ON RESEARCH.
THE SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE APPEARS RANDOMLY WHEN IN MOTION. THE CHEVY DEALER STATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR IS $1,300.
THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS INTERMITTENTLY TURNING OFF ON MY 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT WHEN I HAVE AN ADULT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS VERY SCARY AS THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN THE AIR BAG IS OFF FOR 5 MINUTES AT A TIME. AS WELL THIS IS A VERY ANNOYING CHIME AND DISTRACTING, AND IT OCCURS EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO PASSENGER. FROM MY RESEARCH THE COST TO REPAIR IS ROUGHLY $800-$1,000 WHICH MINIMIZES THE CHANCES OF DOING THE WORK AS THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR.
ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY, WHEN INCREASING OR DECREASING SPEED THE DRIVE MOTOR STATOR/ROTARY BEARING MAKES A CHAINSAW TYPE SOUND INDICATINGTHE BEARING AND COVERS FAILURE. THERE IS ALREADY A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS VOLT HAS LOW MILES AND SHOULD NOT BE MY $1400 EXPENSE TO REPAIR WHEN THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE DEFECTIVE PARTS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM BECAUSE THE BREAK DOWN OF THE BEARING WILL EVENTUALLY STOP THE VEHICLES FUNCTION AT AN UNKNOWN TIME.
INTERMITTENT SERVICE AIRBAG WARNINGS
MY VOLT SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME. WHEN I GO TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE THE LIGHT IS OFF. MY UNDERSTANDING IS MANY VOLT OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR CARS. IN ALL MY YEARS OF DRIVING DIFFERENT VEHICLES I'VE NEVER HAD AN AIRBAG ISSUE WITH A CAR. CHEVY NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THIS AIRBAG ISSUE!! A REPAIR BILL OF OVER $800 IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!
BACK IN JUNE 2020 TOOK MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT TO FERMAN CHEVROLET FOR SERVICE HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM FAULT, DRIVE BATTERY NOT FULLY CHARGING, REDUCED PROPULSION FAULT AND BURNT ODOR FROM UNDER HOOD. THE DEALER FIX WAS PREFORM GM SERVICE BULLETING. NEXT WEEK STILL NOT FULLY CHARGING. WAS TOLD TO DRIVE CAR SO THE BATTERY CAN LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS. STILL NOT CHARGING. ON 16 OCT SAME PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT DRIVE. NOW THE BATTERY 8 YEAR WARRANTY HAS RAN OUT. NEW FIX IS $5300 BATTERY REBUILD AND I SAY THEY NEVER FIXED THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. CAR HAS 85 THOUSAND MILES AND WILL NOT DRIVE.
THREE TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS LOST PROPULSION POWER RESULTING IN REDUCED ACCELERATION AND NO LONGER STARTING. IT IS AT A DEALERSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR REPAIRS. THE RECALL INSTRUCTIONS WERE COMPLETED IN 2019; HOWEVER, I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER IS NOW JUST CHARGING ME FOR REPLACEMENT ITEMS (112 VOLT BATTERY, CLUSTER) INSTEAD OF DEALING WITH THE ACTUAL PROBLEM WITH THE VOLTEC BATTERY THAT IS UNDER WARRANTY.
BEGAN HAVING INTERMITTENT "SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNINGS. FINALLY FAILED SOLID. DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE PASSENGER PRESENT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. REPAIR COST $1100. I DECLINED REPAIR. DEALER SAID THIS FAULT MAKES THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM INOPERABLE. TRIED TO BUY THE REPAIR PART AND WAS INFORMED BY AN ONLINE GM PARTS SOURCE IT WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE AND A COMMON PROBLEM IN CHEVY VEHICLES. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.
AIRBAG WILL AT RANDOM SAY TO "SERVICE AIRBAG" THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER AN OBJECT OR PERSON HAS SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND HAS THEN EXITED THE VEHICLE. MESSAGE DOES NOT PERSIST BETWEEN TRIPS.
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. REPLACED DRIVER SEAT WITH NO CHANGE. CHEVY DEALERSHIP ADVISED THE ISSUE NOW IS THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSORS AND QUOTED ME $1000 TO FIX. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THERE IS ONLY ONE PART AVAILABLE IN THE USA AND THEY DONT KNOW IF THE HOLDER WILL SELL IT. THIS PUTS MY CAR AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. CHEVY NEEDS TO ADDRESS/FIX THIS.
THE 'SERVICE AIRBAG' KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF. WITH ANY MOVEMENT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. I ALREADY HAD CAR INSPECTED AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AROUND 40K MILES. HAS BEEN ON SINCE. CODE IS SAYING THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE TO BE BAD. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE CASE AS I CAN PRESS ON THE SEAT VERY HARD WITH MY KNEE AND SOMETIMES GET THE MODULE TO SENSE THE WEIGHT, HOWEVER WHEN SEATED NORMALLY IT NEVER SENSES A PASSENGER, AND I AM 185 POUNDS.
PASSENGER FRONT SEAT SENSOR FOR AIRBAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, RESULTING IN PASSENGER AIRBAG BEING TURNED OFF WHILE ADULT PASSENGER IS IN SEAT. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STATIONARY AND BOTH IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY. DEALER INDICATED THIS REPAIR WOULD COST NEARLY $1000 (~$500 IN PARTS AND OVER $400 LABOR).
A WARNING LIGHT APPEARS SPORADICALLY REPORTING THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE SERVICED. IF THE PASSENGER WIGGLES AROUND, THE AIRBAG WILL TURN ON AND THE WARNING LIGHT GOES OUT.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AND "SERVICE AIRBAG SOON" APPEARS ON DASH. VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION OR IS IN LOW-SPEED TRAVEL ONLY WHEN LIGHT/ NOTIFICATION APPEARS. LIGHT/ NOTIFICATION DISAPPEARS WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. ISSUE ONLY APPEARS TO HAPPEN WHEN TEMPERATURE INSIDE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY HIGH (LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT EXPANSION OF CUSHION/ SEAT MATERIAL IN HIGH HEAT MAY BE CAUSING WEAK CONTACT ACTIVATIONS. G-FORCE WHEN ACCELERATING/ DECELERATING MAY BE CAUSING SENSOR/ SEAT MATERIAL TO MOVE/ SHIFT IN SUCH A WAY TO RELEASE WEAK CONTACT). BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR $200 DIAGNOSIS. REPORTED PROBLEM AS PASSENGER SEAT NEXT-GEN AIRBAG SENSOR MODULE FAILING. COST TO REPAIR $1200+ REVIEWED MANY ONLINE FORUMS AND POSTS RETURNING SAME ISSUE AND COST FOR REPAIR FOR CHEVROLET VEHICLES IN SAME MODEL AND PLATFORM RANGE (MALIBU, IMPALA, VOLT, CRUZE).
THE PASSENGER DETECTION SENSOR FAILED WHICH AFFECTS FUNCTIONALITY OF PASSENGER AIRBAG. FOR SOME REASON THIS WASN'T COVERED COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY.
SEVICE AIRBAG MSG AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT (RED) COMES ON ON DASH AND "DING DONG" SOUND. SOMETIMES IT GOES OFF WHEN PASSENGER IS IN FRONT SEAT. SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. SOMETIMES IT COMES ON IMMEDIATELY UPON START UP AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. IT IS VERY SPORATIC AND ALSO VERY WORRISOME. JUST STARTED DOING THIS A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. WAS ON TONIGHT GOING TO WORK (NIGHT SHIFT RN). DRIVING CONFITIONS DON'T SEEM TO MATTER. JUST IF SOMEONE IS INNTHE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT.
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SIX MONTHS, THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS HAS GIVEN DIFFERENT REASONS AND NONE OF THEM HAS BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE DIFFERING CLAIMS. ALL THREE DEALERS ESTIMATES BETWEEN $900 TO $1,100 AS POSSIBLE RESOLUTION COST. *TR
THE A-PILLARS ARE WIDE AND OFTEN IN MY FIELD OF VISION. I HAVE HAD 3 CLOSE CALLS WITH HEAD ON COLLISIONS WHILE ON CURVING ROADS, AND LAST WEEK I NEARLY HIT A PEDESTRIAN AND HER DOG AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN WHILE THEY WERE IN THE CROSS WALK. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH CAME ON. SCHEDULED SERVICE VISIT WITH LOCAL CHEVY DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED A FAULTY FRONT PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR. COST TO FIX WITH LABOR $913.60. FAILING SEAT SENSOR APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2012/13 CHEVY VOLTS. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT SPORADICALLY COMES ON. USUALLY GOES OFF WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER OR SOMETIMES WILL GO OFF IF I HIT S BUMP. ALREADY INVESTED $309 FOR THE MECHANIC AT THE CHEVY DEALER TO TELL ME SOMETHING NEEDED TO BE GREASED WHICH DID NOTHING TO HELP SOLVE THE ISSUE.
HI SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT WHEN I GOT THE MESSAGE OF SERVICE AIRBAG AND THE LIGHT OF AIRBAG ON THE DASHBOARD, I TOOK IT TO O'REILLY TO CHECK THE CODE ON IT AND THEY SAID IT HAS TWO CODES OF BEES 0074 AND B0081 WHICH RELATED TO PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE. THIS CAME ON BY ITSELF!! *TR
WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON. I THINK THIS DISABLES THE AIRBAGS WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING! THIS WARNING COMES ON RIGHT AWAY WHEN TURNING ON THE CAR.
THE VEHICLE AIRBAG SERVICE CONTINUALLY GOES ON WHILE DRIVING AND IN PARK. THERE HAS BEEN NO SPILLS OR RELATED ISSUES WITH THE SEAT BUT THE SENSOR HAS OBVIOUSLY MALFUNCTIONED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROADWAY. PROPULSION POWER REDUCED WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER WAITING FOR TEN MINUTES, THE VEHICLE STARTED AND OPERATED AS INTENDED HOWEVER, THE MESSAGE REMAINED DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARADISE CHEVROLET CADILLAC (27360 YNEZ RD, TEMECULA, CA 92591) HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE NUMBER WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000. *LN*JB*DT THE CONSUMER HAS STATED THAT THE ISSUE OCCURED ONCE MORE ON JULY 11 AND JULY 12 OF 2020. *AS
FAULTY AIR BAG SENSOR
THIS VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOOSES PROPULSION WHILE DRIVING AND IT SWITCHES FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, BUT THIS LAST TIME I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED.
AROUND 90000 MILES THE "SERVICE AIRBAGS" LIGHTS AND WARNING MESSAGES APPEARED FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG.
PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR (PPS) MALFUNCRION IN PASSENGER AIRBAG IN 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CAR ALWAYS CONSISTENTLY HAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT GO ON AND OFF MANY TIMES FOR YEARS WITH THE CAR. IT ALWAYS STAYS ON DUE TO PPS MODULE ERROR NOW.
PASSENGER AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF, DESPITE AN OCCUPANT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES, IRREGARDLESS IF VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT WESELOH CHEVROLET LOCATED AT (5335 PASEO DEL NORTE, CARLSBAD, CA 92008), TO BE SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUBJECTED TO A RECALL REGARDING THE HYBRID POWER CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT BECAME ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
I AM RECEIVING A WARNING LIGHT REGARDING MY AIRBAG SENSOR. THIS COMES ON EVERYTIME I START MY CAR AS SIMILAR TO OTHER REPORTED CASES IN THE SAME MODEL YEAR OF THE CHEVY VOLT. THIS HAPPENS ON IGNITION AND OCCASIONALLY DURING DRIVING.
MY CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF FOR YEARS WITHOUT INSTIGATION. IT SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH CHEVY VOLTS AND IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT AFFECTS THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. IT FIRST APPEARED NOT LONG AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR NOT WHEN IT APPEARS AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT WILL ALSO GO AWAY WITHOUT BEING ADDRESSED. I'M WORRIED IT COULD APPEAR AGAIN AND MY AIRBAGS WON'T DEPLOY PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING DISPLAYED FOLLOWING MOVING THE PASSENGER SEAT FORWARD WHILE CAR WAS PARKED. BASED ON FACT THAT CAR WAS NOT MOVING WHEN NOTIFICATION CAME ON, SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE THAT HUNDREDS OF GEN 1 VOLT OWNERS HAVE HAD, MANY OF THEM WITHIN THE LAST 3 MONTHS, AND GM IS IGNORING THE ISSUE INSTEAD OF RECALLING THE PART.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOW AND LOSS POWER. THE PROPORTION POWER REDUCED MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN ABNORMAL NOISE DETECTED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE HEADLIGHT BECAME INOPERABLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITH THE HAZZARD LIGHTS FLASHING TO HER RESIDENCE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ELCO CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 15110 MANCHESTER RD, BALLWIN, MO 63011 (636) 232-0007 WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
PASSENGER SEAT PRESENCE SENSOR IS FAULTY, CAUSING "SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNINGS AND AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, BUT ONCE SENSOR IS TRIPPED, ERRORS AND WARNING MESSAGES APPEAR UNTIL VEHICLE IS POWERED OFF. HAPPENS FREQUENTLY - MANY TIMES PER DAY. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS ISSUE IS ACTUALLY AFFECTING THE AIRBAG'S FUNCTIONALITY. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR - ABOUT $500 FOR THE SENSOR, AND $500 FOR LABOR. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH 2013 VOLTS WHO ARE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM THIS SHOULD BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY, AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON MY CAR FOR YEARS.
"SERVICE AIRBAG" INDICATOR APPEARED AFTER CAR WAS STARTED. INDICATOR PERSISTS
SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR, AND WOULD COST $800 TO FIX. THE WARNING LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENT, BUT NOW IT IS ON ALL THE TIME. AND THE WARNING BEEPING SOUND CONTINUES ALMOST CONSTANTLY WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. VERY ANNOYING. THE AIR BAG IS NOT ON EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE FRONT SEAT. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY GM. I DON'T WANT TO TAKE PASSENGERS IN THE CAR BECAUSE I FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY. THE CAR HAS 120K MILES ON IT. THE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN ALL DRIVING AND PARKED SITUATIONS. I HAVE READ ON MANY FORMS ONLINE, THAT THIS IS A PRETTY PREVALENT ISSUE WITH MANY VOLT OWNERS AND IS IN DEFINITELY NEED OF SOME ATTENTION. THE ISSUE STARTED BACK IN THE BEGINNING OF 2018 AND IS STILL A PROBLEM AS OF JAN 2020. THE COST TO FIX THE ISSUE IS TOO PROHIBITIVE FOR ME.
STARTING IN AUGUST OF 2019, OUR 2013 CHEVY VOLT AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WENT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING. THIS USUALLY HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING, BUT SOMETIMES WHEN IT WAS IN PARK. IT ALSO HAPPENED WHENEVER CHANGING THE SPEED USING CRUISE CONTROL. WE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED IT WAS RELATED TO THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN WE DID, WE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER MENTIONS OF THIS PROBLEM ONLINE (ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT THERE AREN'T MANY MODELS OF THIS CAR ON THE ROAD), AND THAT THE SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM, AND WERE TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT WHEN THE SENSOR DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, THAT THE AIRBAGS LIKELY WON'T INFLATE IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THEREFORE, WE ASKED TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR, BUT WERE TOLD THE PART COULD NOT BE ORDERED DUE TO THE GM STRIKE. IN LATE DECEMBER, WE HEARD FROM THE DEALER THAT THE PART WAS IN SO WE HAD IT FIXED TODAY AT THE COST OF $755.05 WE ARE VERY UPSET ABOUT THE HIGH COST FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR SENSOR, AND A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD.
SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT IN TO DEALER WHO REPORTED THE AIR BAG SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NO LONGER WORKING. REPLACEMENT PLUS LABOR QUOTED AT $1000. THIS CAR IS A 2013, THE AIR BAG SENSOR SHOULD NOT BREAK SO QUICKLY.
PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR WENT BAG RESULTING IN THE CAR THROWING A "SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNING LIGHT. COST OVER 800 DOLLARS TO FIX, HAVE HEARD FROM THE DEALER AND ON VOLT FORUMS ONLINE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE A RECALL
SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY UPON FRONT PASSENGER ENTERING OR LEAVING VEHICLE. SERVICE LIGHT CLEARS AND REAPPEARS AT RANDOM FOR SEVERAL TRIPS AFTER THIS OCCURS.
AT 40,000 MILES APPROXIMATELY, THE CHECK AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME UP. THE DEALER SAID THAT BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, IT WAS NOT COVERED AND IT WOULD BE ABOUT $850 AND THERE WOULD BE NO GUARANTEE THAT THE SENSOR CHANGE WOULD FIX IT. I REFUSED THE WORK FOR THAT PRICE. I HAVE DRIVEN ANOTHER 135,000 MILES AND IT IS STILL ON. SAFETY HAS BEEN REDUCED DUE TO THE HIGH CHARGE FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
MY CAR HAD THE EXACT ISSUES THAT ARE DOCUMENTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 18V397000 WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I GOT A LOW PROPULSION WARNING WHEN THE LITHIUM BATTERY WAS DEPLETED AND SWITCHED TO ENGINE. ENGINE WAS REVVING VERY HIGH AND ALMOST NO ACCELERATION WAS AVAILABLE. I MADE IT HOME AND CAR WOULDN'T RESTART. 12V BATTERY WAS DEAD SO I REPLACED IT BUT STILL COULD NOT START THE CAR.
MY CAR STARTED INTERMITTENTLY SAYING "SERVICE AIRBAG" SINCE AROUND 55,000 MILES. NO AT 88,000 MILES IT NOW IS ON NEARLY ALL THE TIME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE FIX FOR THIS IS REINSTALLING THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION DUE TO A BAD DESIGN. THIS REPAIR IS ABOUT $1000 TO FIX A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
'SERVICE AIRBAG' APPEARS ON DISPLAY WHEN FRONT PASSENGER STEPS OUT OF VEHICLE. WHEN PASSENGER STEPS BACK IN VEHICLE AND FASTENS SEATBELT AIRBAG OFF DISPLAYED ON OVERHEAD DISPLAY INDICATING AIRBAG WOULD NOT WORK IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH FOR PASSENGER. MESSAGE USUALLY DISAPPEARS AFTER CYCLING POWER ON VEHICLE. ALSO WITH LIGHTWEIGHT ITEMS ON SEAT (10 LBS OR SO) MESSAGE ALSO APPEARS AND DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY REMOVE WITHOUT CYCLING POWER.
SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. CONCERN THAT AIRBAGS WON'T WORK IF NEEDED.
I HAVE LESS THAN 40,000 MILES IN THIS VEHICLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES THE WARNING LIGHT WENT ON SAYING THE AIRBAG SENSOR WAS NOT WORKING. I UNDERSTAND THAT A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED AND I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY NAME TO THAT CASE.
SAME PROBLEM MOST EVERYONE ELSE IS HAVING. SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE COMES ON FREQUENTLY AND RED AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. STARTED AT AROUND 85-90K MILES. AND NO ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS WILL IT TAKE? ITS A GREAT CAR OTHERWISE. FORD IS MUCH MORE PROACTIVE WITH SAFETY RECALLS THAN GM.
SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING WHEN PASSENGER SEAT UNOCCUPIED. GOES OFF WHEN OCCUPIED.
SERVICE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING CAME ON CONTINUOUSLY. TWO TRIPS TO THE DEALER, FIRST TIME THEY TRIED TO FIX BY CLEANING A CONNECTION $196 AND IT DID NOT WORK. SECOND TIME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR $636.70. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY I WAS TOLD. CAR HAD 68514 MILES AND WAS IN SERVICE 4 YEARS.
MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT IS DISPLAYING A "SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNING MESSAGE. THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR, (SPECIFICALLY, THE "PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE"), NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. DUE TO THE FAULTY PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSING, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS ARE DEACTIVATED, EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS PRESENT. THE WARNING MESSAGE IS PRESENT (AND INTERMITTENTLY BEEPING) ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY WHEN DRIVING, AND OBSCURES INFORMATION ON THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. THE COST TO REPLACE THE PRESENCE MODULE WILL BE ABOUT $600, AND DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE DESIGN, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE REPLACEMENT MODULE WILL NOT FAIL IN THE SAME WAY AGAIN SHORTLY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE ANOTHER WAY TO ENSURE THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS STAY ON.
MY SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON FOR MONTHS AND I DONT KNOW WHY. I USE THIS CAR FOR COMMUTING AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE SEAT OR CAR THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS SERVICE LIGHT TO TURN ON. I HAVE READ ON A FEW FORUMS WHERE THIS AIRBAG LIGHT HAS CAME ON FOR A FEW PEOPLE AND ITS LEADING TO A SENSOR FIX WHICH CAN COST UP TO $1000. HAS GM ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM SINCE ITS A SAFETY ISSUE?
I RECENTLY NOTICED IN MY CHEVY VOLT PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR PROBLEMS.
WARNING OF FAULTY AIR BAG ON PASSENGER SIDE. WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON AT TIMES EVEN IF PASSENGER SEAT IS EMPTY. THIS WARNING COMES ON AT TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND AT OTHER TIMES WHEN STATIONARY.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. FAULTY SEAT SENSOR.
REDUCED PROPULSION WARNING. CAUSES CAR TO NOT GO OVER 40 MPH WHILE DRIVING. COVERED UNDER VOLTECH WARRANTY BUT DEALERS WANT TO CHARGE FOR THE DIAGNOSIS. UNFAIR, AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR A WARRANTY DIAGNOSIS.
THE SERVICE AIRBAG RED LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. WE BROUGHT IT IN TO GET CHECKED AND THE VOLT SERVICE CENTER SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WAS FAULTY INCLUDING CIRCUITRY WHICH WILL AFFECT THE FRONT AIRBAG FROM WORKING PROPERLY TOO.
PASSENGER SEAT BELT SENSOR WENT BAD AND WAS REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED BY GM
PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR INTERMITTENT FAILURE. SHOULD BE ADDED TO INVESTIGATION PE19013. AIRBAG LIGHT AND SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE IS ON 7 OUT OF 10 TIMES THE CAR IS TURNED ON AND NO PASSENGER OR ITEM IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT(WHILE STATIONARY). LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING OR APPLYING FORCE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EMPTY PASSENGER SEAT. DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER THE LIGHT IS USUALLY OFF, HOWEVER SOMETIMES IT WILL COME ON WITH A PASSENGER PRESENT AND VEHICLE IN MOTION, AND CAN BE RESOLVED BY THE PASSENGER SHIFTING THEIR WEIGHT A FEW TIMES. ISSUE IS TOO HARD TO DEMONSTRATE TO DEALER AND WOULD COST TOO MUCH FOR ME TO BOTHER REPAIRING ON MY OWN. OTHER MODELS FROM CHEVROLET DURING THAT TIME PERIOD USE THE SAME SENSOR AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED OR ARE PENDING A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2016 BUT MUCH MORE INFREQUENTLY. IT HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON GRADUALLY EVER SINCE. SEAT HAS NOT HAD ANYTHING SPILLED ON IT, OR RAIN LET IN FROM OPEN WINDOWS ETC.
PASSENGER FRONT SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR MALFUNCTIONS WHICH TRIGGERS THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT AND DISABLES THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAGS. THIS RANDOMLY OCCURS WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE SEAT AND IT WILL HAPPEN IF THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED AND THE PERSON IN THE SEAT MOVES
PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG GETS AN ERROR BECAUSE OF A MALFUNCTIONING SEAT SENSOR. HAPPENS WHETHER SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT OR NOT. MORE TIMES THAN NOT THE AIRBAG WARNING WILL GO OUT AFTER DRIVING FOR A BIT.
I STARTED RECEIVING A PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH. IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN MOSTLY IF I SET SOMETHING ON THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THEN REMOVED IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID A SENSOR IN THE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS $1100
THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON INTERMITTENTLY. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN SOMETHING IS EITHER SET ON MY PASSENGER SEAT OR IF SOMEONE SITS IN THAT SEAT. IT WILL HAPPEN AT ANYTIME, GENERALLY WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVING.
MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT HAS RECENTLY EXPERIENCED SOME AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ISSUES. THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON FOR STRETCHES OF TIME AND THEN DISAPPEARS ON ITS OWN. I DRIVE 90% OF THE TIME WITHOUT A FRONT PASSENGER AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS NO PATTERN TO WHEN IT COMES ON OR GOES OFF. IT IS COMPLETELY RANDOM. SO I STOPPED INTO MY LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, SO I WENT HOME AND DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE: HTTP://GMAUTHORITY.COM/BLOG/2019/09/CHEVROLET-VOLT-UNDER-INVESTIGATION-FOR-AIRBAG-WARNING-LIGHTS/ OBVIOUSLY THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT CHEVY NEEDS TO ADDRESS, SO I AM FILING A FORMAL COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND AM REQUESTING SOME HELP AS HOW TO ADDRESS THIS WITH CHEVROLET.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON 2013 VOLT STARTED GOING ON AND OFF A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. CONTINUED TO GET MORE FREQUENT OVER TIME UNTIL IT STAYED ON CONSISTENTLY. TOOK TO GM DEALER ON 9/5/18 AT 37,944 MILEAGE AND PAID $130 FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALER STATED THE PASSENGER PRESENT SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT, THE REPAIR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND QUOTED AN ADDITIONAL $1082.26 TO REPAIR. SINCE IT WAS A SAFETY COMPONENT OF THE CAR, I COMPLAINED TO GM MANAGEMENT DIRECTLY UNDER A CASE#, BUT THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR ON 10/12/18. STILL A SERIOUS CONCERN TODAY AT 54,183 MILEAGE. DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE IF NEEDED.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH HAS BEEN ON FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW AND I JUST READ AN ARTICLE THE OTHER DAY THAT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE OVER THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAVE A SNAP-ON SCANNER FOR READING OBD2 PORTS ON A LARGE AMOUNT OF VEHICLES AND WHEN I PLUG MINE UP TO MY VOLT IT TELLS ME IT IS THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THIS SENSOR ONCE. THE DEALER TRIED TO ROB ME IN TRYING TO CHARGE ME OVER 800.00 FOR THIS VERY SIMPLE REPAIR. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT IS OUT YET AGAIN AND GM KNOWS THERE ARE SCORES OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VOLT BUT THEY WONT PROPERLY ADDRESS THEM. I HAD A 2017 VOLT THAT CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT TO THE GROUND. WHAT DID THEY DO ABOUT IT? NOT A [XXX] THING. I SINCERELY HOPE THE FEDS MAKE THEM DO SOMETHING TO ADDRESS THIS VEHICLE AS LIVES ARE ON THE LINE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
I GET A SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING. I RECEIVE THE MESSAGE ON STARTUP AND AT RANDOM INTERVALS THE CAR WILL CHIME, AND DISPLAY THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" MESSAGE. A RED ICON OF A PERSON WEARING A SEATBELT WITH AN AIRBAG DEPLOYED IS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINS ON, AT ALL TIMES THAT THE CAR IS ON. I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT DATE THIS FIRST OCCURRED. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS. I BOUGHT IT FROM A CHEVROLET DEALER.
PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR INTERMITTENT FUNCTION AT 52K MILES. WOULD DISABLE PASSENGER AIR BAG RANDOMLY WHETHER MOVING OR STATIONARY. HAD DEALER SERVICED, WHICH REPLACED PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR, FOR $1086.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR TRIGGERED A WARNING (VEHICLE IN MOTION). TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY TRIED THE TYPICAL LOOSE CONNECTION CHECK, WATER DAMAGE CHECK, ETC. REMOVED SENSOR AND TESTED IT - NOT PULLING ANY CURRENT, SO MUST BE BAD AND NEED REPLACEMENT. TOTAL COST TO REPLACE $1,200!! IF IT'S NOT REPLACED, AIRBAGS ARE DISABLED TO PROTECT AGAINST ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT. I DECIDED TO PASS AND PRETEND THAT THE CAR WAS BUILT IN THE 1970S (IE, NO AIRBAGS AND JUST RELYING ON SEATBELTS).
MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND IT'S BEEN ON FOR A WHILE NOW. I WENT TO A CHEVY VOLT FORUM ON GOOGLE AND APPARENTLY IT'S A PROBLEM THAT MY CHEVY VOLT OWNERS ARE HAVING SO I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT INVOLVES THE AIRBAG.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE JERKED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH CHARLOTTE CHEVROLET (9325 SOUTH BLVD, CHARLOTTE, NC 28273, (704) 444-0109) WHERE THE BRAKE MODULATOR VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,625.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT DUE TO SEAT SENSOR HAS BEEN ON SINCE 40000 MILES. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY WILL COST 1000. AT THE TIME THE WARNING WAS FREQUENT BUT INTERMITTENT. NOW THE WARNING IS ALL OF THE TIME. MULTIPLE VOLT OWNERS ONLINE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
THERE'S A PERSISTENT ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHERE IT WILL EITHER 1) GIVE AN ERROR WARNING WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE SEAT, OR 2) TEMPORARILY NOT REGISTER THE PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. IN THE LATTER INSTANCE THE AIRBAG IS TEMPORARILY TAKEN OFFLINE WHILE A PERSON IS ACTUALLY IN THE SEAT, AND IT TURNS ON AND OFF WHENEVER THE PASSENGER SHIFTS THEIR WEIGHT. THESE ERROR WARNINGS OCCUR WITH EVERY START UP OF THE VEHICLE.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED DUE TO A FAILED SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HAD TO REPLACE WITH A USED SEAT.
AN APPARENT FAILURE OF THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR PREVENTS CORRECT OPERATION OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. WHEN A LIGHT OBJECT IS ON THE SEAT, OR WHEN A PASSENGER EXITS THE SEAT, A SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND PERSISTS UNTIL THE NEXT VEHICLE POWER CYCLE. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. INITIAL RESEARCH POINTS TO THE SEAT SENSOR AS THE CULPRIT, BUT THE REPAIR IS OUTLANDISHLY EXPENSIVE, AND PREVENTS OWNERS FROM SEEKING THE REPAIR, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE DEALER CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE REPAIR WILL SUCCEED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,941.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURE. AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF PASSENGER IS NOT DETECTED. KNOWN ISSUE FOR MANY 2013 VOLT OWNERS.
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG FREQUENTLY SIGNALS THAT SERVICE IS REQUIRED. OCCUPIED, UNOCCUPIED, BAG OF GROCERIES, OR OCCUPIED WHEN OCCUPANT SHIFTS AROUND A LITTLE. SIMILAR REPORTS INDICATE THAT SERVICE REQUIRES EXPENSIVE CALIBRATION WITH LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN A LASTING CORRECTIVE OUTCOME. CAN BE STATIONARY AT BEGINNING OF TRIP, DURING TRIP WHILE MOVING - NO OBVIOUS CORRELATION. HAPPENS MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY, BEGINNING AT LEAST A YEAR AGO.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT AND I RECEIVED A LOSS OF PROPULSION MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD AND IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND SLOWED DOWN ON THE FREEWAY AS I WAS DRIVING. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT WAS ALSO DARK. I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO EXIT THE FREEWAY. MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE EXIT LANE OF THE FREEWAY. I PRESSED THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND THEN I WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND I TURNED THE POWER BUTTON BACK ON AND THE CAR CAME ON AS ONLY POWER MODE. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR VERY SLOWLY SOMEWHERE MORE SAFE. I CALLED TOW TRUCK AND I TOWED IT TO DEALERSHIP. THE VOLT WAS STILL ABLE TO MOVE SLOWLY UP THE TOW TRUCK AND WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS STILL ABLE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE SERVICE STATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, BUT LOSS OF PROPULSION LIGHT WAS GONE. SERVICE ADVISORS TOLD ME THEY WOULD FIX MY CAR AS IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS SALVAGED. THE ESTIMATE WAS $145. LATER ON THEY CALLED ME THAT MY CAR HAD 8 CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON AND THAT I NEEDED A TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEIR WAS A WHINING SOUND AND ALSO LOSS OF PROPULSION STILL ON. I WENT TO GO LOOK AT MY CAR A COUPLE DAYS LATER AFTER I FILLED A COMPLAINT WITH GM HEADQUARTERS BECAUSE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. WHEN I WENT TO GO CHECK OUT MY VEHICLE, IT WAS IN A WORSE CONDITION THEN WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. MY CAR WOULD NOT EVEN TURN ON. WHEN I PUSHED THE POWER BUTTON, IT WOULD SAY ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE AND IT WOULD ALSO SAY LOSS OF PROPULSION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE MY CAR AND THE BATTERY STILL HAD 8 MILES LEFT. IT WAS WEIRD AS TO WHY MY CAR IS GETTING WORSE WHILE BEING IN THE DEALER. DEALER TOLD ME THEY ARE DONE WITH THE UPDATE AND IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE, I HAVE TO PAY $430 AND MORE THAN LIKELY THOUSANDS OF DOLLAR TO FIX IT.
ABOUT FOUR WEEKS AGO MY SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. NO CAR CRASH AND NO WET SEAT FOR THE SENSOR TO GO OFF. THE LIGHT JUST CAME ON WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ONE MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK. I USE THE CAR TO COMMUTE TO WORK AND BACK HOME, HAVE NO CHILDREN 70% OF THE TIME I DRIVE ALONE.
FORWARD COLLISION SENSOR HAS BEEN GIVING FALSE POSITIVES WHILE DRIVING A HIGHWAY SPEEDS AROUND TURNS AND IN CONSTRUCTION ZONES.
"SERVICE AIRBAG" SENSOR ISSUE ON THE 2013 CHEVY VOLT. IS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE PER THE PRIOR COMPLAINTS I SEE. AS STATED BY OTHERS, NO WATER DAMAGE OR ANYTHING HAS OCCURED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. IN FACT, I'VE ONLY HAD PEOPLE ACTUALLY RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT 5 TIMES IN TOTAL IN ALL THE YEARS THAT I'VE HAD IT. SO BASICALLY IT ISN'T USED. THE ISSUE IS AN AIRBAG / SENSOR ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BY CHEVY TO FIX SAID ISSUE! AS OTHERS HAVE STATED. IT DOES COME AND COME BUT HAS BEEN MORE FREQUENT AS OF LATE EVEN THOUGH THE CAR PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT USED!
PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR, BEING TRIGGERED INTERMITTENTLY. SENSOR IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE PASSENGER SEAT. SENSOR IS QUESTION IS CALLED A PASSENEGER PRESENCE SYSTEM MODULE.
A SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE RANDOMLY APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD AND GOES AWAY AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE MESSAGE APPEARS AT RANDOM WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE.
CAR SLOWED DOWN AND THEN CAME TO A FULL STOP ON SIDE OF RESIDENTIAL STREET. TRIED TO TURN OFF AND RESTART ENGINE TO NO AVAIL. NO POWER COMING FROM MOTOR
"SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNING LIGHT AND CONSOLE MESSAGE APPEARS INTERMITTENTLY, MAINLY IN WARM WEATHER. DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST $1100 TO FIX DEFINITIVELY - FOR 3 YEARS. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE ONLY WAY GM WILL GUARANTEE THE AIRBAG WILL INFLATE. MANY OTHER VOLT OWNERS ON THE GM VOLT FORUM (HTTPS://GM-VOLT.COM/FORUM/) HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND AT LEAST ONE HAS FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOU.
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
OVERALL BATTERY LIFE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN REDUCED FROM AVERAGE 38 MILES AT FULL CHARGE TO 31 MILES.
THE CAR REGULARLY GETS AN AIRBAG LIGHT RELATING TO THE PASSENGER SEAT PRESENCE SENSOR. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL RANDOMLY COME ON AND THEN TURN OFF AS I DRIVE.
NO UNUSUAL ACTIVITY. NO SPILLS OR OTHER OCCURRENCE THAT COULD CAUSE SENSOR TO FAIL. PASSENGER SEAT PRESENCE DETECTION SENSOR HAS FAILED. CAR NOW REPORTS A "SERVICE AIRBAG" WARNING AND HAS DISABLED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG BECAUSE OF IT. THIS IS A LIFE-THREATENING ERROR CAUSED BY A SIMPLE SENSOR FAILURE THAT IS SHOWING A HIGH FAILURE RATE WITH COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT REPAIRING THIS SENSOR AS IT COST $1000 TO $2000 TO REPAIR THROUGH THE DEALERS THAT ARE NOT DISCOUNTING OR COVERING THE COST OF REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY.
I AM GETTING AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAUSED BY A FAULTY PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE. IF I HAVE A PASSENGER RIDING WITH ME, THE WARNING LIGHT WILL GO ON AND OFF SOMETIMES CAUSED BY HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THOUGH, IT SAYS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF WHICH IS A VERY BIG SAFETY CONCERN. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A WRECK OR HAD ANY LIQUID SPILLED ON THE SEAT.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR STOPPED WORKING CAUSING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TO BE TURNED OFF.
CONTINUOUSLY RECEIVE A "SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM" WARNING. BEGAN HAPPENING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WARNING STAYS ON ALL THE TIME (AS SOON AS VEHICLE IS STARTED). DEALERSHIP INVESTIGATED AND DETERMINED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR FOR THE AIRBAG MUST BE REPLACED, AT A HIGH COST (~$800). WITHOUT THIS REPAIR, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT (SENSOR DOES NOT INDICATE THAT SOMEONE IS SEATED ON PASSENGER SIDE, SO ONLY DRIVER'S SIDE MAY DEPLOY).
(CHEVY VOLT 2013) A WARNING MESSAGE "SERVICE AIRBAGS" INTERMITTENTLY SHOWS. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUES AMONG CHEVY VOLT OWNERS (INCLUDING 2 PEOPLE IN MY FAMILY WHO OWN THE SAME CAR MODEL) THE WARNING SHOWS WHILE DRIVING AND DISAPPEARS AFTER A FEW SECONDS.
I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY OR PROPULSION CONTROL SYSTEM. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE TO FIX "LOSS OF PROPULSION DUE TO LOW CELL VOLTAGE". THE SERVICE TEAM WAS VERY NICE, I SAT IN THEIR WAITING ROOM FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS. THEY SAID IT WAS DONE SO I THEN WENT TO WORK FOR A COUPLE HOURS. WHEN DRIVING HOME I GET TO THE POINT WHERE THE INITIAL ELECTRICAL BATTERY IS DEPLETED AND THEN IT TURNS ON THE GAS GENERATOR. I IMMEDIATELY GET AN ALERT "LOSS OF PROPULSION" AND THE CAR STOPS ACCELERATING AND DRIVES VERY DIFFERENT. LOW ACCELERATION, AC TURNS OFF. I MAKE IT HOME AND THEN THE CHARGING SYSTEM SAYS IT IS NOT WORKING. I TRY TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DOESN'T LET ME PUT IT IN GEAR. I CALLED ON STAR AND THEY SCHEDULED A TOW TRUCK TO COME AND HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES.
INSIDE REAR BRAKE PAD MATERIAL SEPARATED FROM THE STEEL BACKING RESULTING IN DAMAGED BRAKE ROTORS AND ERRATIC BRAKING. ALL OTHER BRAKE PADS IN SATISFACTORY CONDITION. THESE WERE THE OEM BRAKES AND ROTORS.
PASSENGER SEAT UNOCCUPIED WILL ALERT AIRBAG SENSOR WARNING DISPLAY
WHILE STARTING VEHICLE FOR COMMUTE BACK HOME, THE ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC WARNING POPES UP SAYING THAT PROFUSION PEER WAS REDUCED. THE GASOLINE ENGINE THEN TURNED ON EVEN THOUGH BATTERY WAS APPROXIMATELY 75% CHARGED. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY WITH ACCELERATION AS WELL AS DECELERATION; AS A RESULT, I ELECTED TO TAKE THE SIDE STREETS INSTEAD OF THE INTERSTATE
AIRBAG WEIGHT SENSOR ISSUES ON PASSENGER SIDE
I LIVE IN AND DRIVE MY CAR AROUND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. MY BATTERY COOLANT RADIATOR WAS HIT BY A SMALL ROCK AND LEAKED. THIS PREVENTED CHARGING, CAUSED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, AND COOLANT TO POOL UNDERNEATH MY CAR. I TOWED IT TO A NEARBY CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO GET THE RADIATOR REPLACED. RADIATOR DAMAGE TO VOLTS IS NOT UNCOMMON. CHEVROLET KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE AND HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN COVERING SOME (BUT NOT ALL) VOLTS DUE TO THEIR LOW, VULNERABLE, AND RELATIVELY UNPROTECTED DESIGN OF THE RADIATOR. I BELIEVE CHEVROLET SHOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH STRONGER RADIATOR SHIELDS AND PROTECTORS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KEN GARFF CHEVROLET (801-692-6158, LOCATED AT 548 E 1000 S, AMERICAN FORK, UT 84003) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
THE CHECK AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG GO ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY EVEN IF A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT. THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM HAS FAILED AT 70,000 MILES. IT HAPPENS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN MAKING IT UNSAFE TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL GM AND VOLT BLOGS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2012 AND 2013 VOLT.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE MAIN HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY IS DEPLETED, I HAVE A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN SPEED AND ZERO ACCELERATION. I GET A DASHBOARD ALERT "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED". "REDUCED" IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! THE GAS ENGINE TRIES TO KEEP UP WITH SPEED BY RAMPING UP THE RMPS. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED FORCES OTHER CARS TO AVOID ME AND I CANNOT INCREASE MY SPEED IF NEEDED. I EXPECT I WILL BE REAR ENDED OR LOSE CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. ENGINE REVS EXTREMELY HIGH. I USUALLY PULL OVER AND TURN OFF VEHICLE- SOMETIMES A RESTARTS FIXES IT. I HAVE ALSO WAITED (5 MINS?) WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AT HIGH RMPS HOPING THE BATTERY WOULD RECOVER, BUT NO. I ALSO FEAR THE GAS ENGINE WILL OVERHEAT. THE CAR CAN NO LONGER DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SAFELY AFTER DEPLETION AND CANNOT ACCELERATE SUFFICIENTLY EVEN IN A 30MPH ZONE. THIS IS A CONTINUING ISSUE AND HAS HAPPENED FOR THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY IS BAD, BUT THE MAIN BATTERY CHARGES AND DRIVES FINE UNTIL IT IS DEPLETED. I NOW DON'T DRIVE FARTHER THAN WHAT THE EV BATTERY CAN ACHIEVE. (ALL OTHER CURRENT RECALL ISSUES, SOFTWARE UPDATES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED)
2013 CHEVY VOLT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND RECEIVED A LOW PROPULSION WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE ROUTE IN OHIO. OUR SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THIS WAS ON A HIGHWAY. THE VOLT WOULD NOT MOVE AND HE HAD TO TRY TO GLIDE OFF THE ROAD SINCE IT HAD NO POWER. HE PUSHED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD SO IT WOULD NOT BE HIT. IF THIS SITUATION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OUR SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO OTHER VOLT OWNERS IF YOU LOOK THIS ISSUE UP ON THE INTERNET. WHY HASN'T GM FIXED THIS ISSUE SO PEOPLE ARE SAFE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE? WE BROUGHT OUR VOLT INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THIS CAR IS NOW GOING ON 3 WEEKS AND WE STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR CAR BACK. THEY FIRST SAID IT WAS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL MODULE, AND REPLACED PARTS. NOW THEY ARE STATING THAT IT DID NOT WORK AND IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. I AM NOT SURE THEY KNOW WHAT IS REALLY WRONG WITH THIS VOLT. THEY ARE NOW ASKING US TO PAY $3661 TO HAVE THIS TRANSMISSION REPLACE AND GM WILL PAY 2000 OR IT WOULD BE 5661. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN WORTH THAT MUCH AT THIS POINT HAS 83000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE NEVER WENT OUT. GM TRIED TO SAY IT WAS THE SHORT, NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT WAS NOT A SHORT. I DO NOT CARE WHAT IT IS I JUST WANT A SAFE CAR FOR MY SON TO DRIVE. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE BACK PEDALING TO TRY TO NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY (GM) SHOULD PAY FOR. ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS ISSUE IS NOT A NEW ISSUE FOR THE CHEVY VOLT. GM NEEDS TO STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS AND FIX THIS VEHICLE.
COMPONENT DESIGNED TO DETECT PASSENGER SITTING ON THE PASSENGER SEAT HAS FAILED CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO REMAIN OFF. DEALER SAYS THE PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTION MODULE IN THE SEAT CUSHION HAS FAILED. I HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH VW WHICH WAS A RECALL, HOWEVER GM IS NOT RECALLING THESE FAULTY VEHICLES. THIS COULD CAUSE AN AIRBAG TO NOT INFLATE DURING A CRASH.
JUST PAID $975 TO HAVE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR REPLACED ON MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT. I WAS INFORMED BY THE GM VOLT THREAD THAT THIS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THE CHEVY VOLTS AND IS HAPPENING TO MANY VOLT OWNERS.
AT LOW SPEED (UNDER 5 MPH) I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HAD NO RESPONSE. I STOMPED DOWN WITH ALL MY MIGHT AND STILL HAD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE FROM EITHER THE POWER ANTILOCK NOR THE MANUAL BRAKE. THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD WITH NO SLOWING UNTIL IT HIT THE CAR AHEAD OF ME, TRAVELING SEVERAL FEET BEFORE DOING SO. I NEVER FELT ANY BRAKE ENGAGEMENT INCLUDING 'PUMPING' OF THE ANTILOCK OR ANY SLOWING. I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND HAD BEEN AT A FULL OR NEAR FULL STOP BEFORE LETTING OFF THE BRAKE TO ROLL FORWARD. I WAS GOING STRAIGHT AHEAD. BRAKES HAVE BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED.
THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR FAILED IN MY VOLT SEVERAL YEARS AGO. SINCE IT'S NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THE DEALER QUOTED ME $1000 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE AND CHEVY SHOULD RECALL THESE BECAUSE IT'S A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE AIRBAG IS OFTEN NOT ACTIVATED WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE SENSOR HAS FAILED AND CAN'T SENSE A PERSON IN THE SEAT. CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE! NOT TO MENTION, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS INTERMITTENT AND EXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS BEEPING MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY TIME I DRIVE NOW. THIS SEAT HAS NEVER BEEN WET AND THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, I RARELY HAVE PASSENGERS.
MY 2013 VOLT HAS STARTED GIVING ME ONLY A MAXIMUM OF 35 MILES CHARGE, BUT REALLY ONLY GIVING ME 27-32 EVEN THROUGH I DRIVE IN LOW (WHICH ALWAYS GAVE ME MORE MILES THAN THE CAR THOUGHT I'D GET). MAYBE THIS IS CONNECTED TO THE NEW PROBLEM? YESTERDAY WHEN I TURNED ON THE CAR (DRIVING IN GAS BECAUSE I HAD RUN OUT OF ELECTRIC) IT GAVE GAVE ME A "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED" ERROR MESSAGE. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE ERROR STAYED. I HAD TO DRIVE FROM DOWNTOWN LA IN A CAR THAT COULD BARELY MOVE. ABOUT 8 MILES IN, THE ERROR DISAPPEARED AND THE CAR RAN NORMALLY. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY ERROR MESSAGES (?!), BUT MAYBE, MAYBE THAT PROBLEM AND THE CHARGING PROBLEM COULD BE CORRECTED BY A $300 SOFTWARE UPDATE. MAYBE. MEANTIME, I FOUND THAT SOME 2013 VOLTS WERE RECALLED FOR EXACTLY THIS ERROR PROBLEM, BUT APPARENTLY NOT MINE. THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T SEEM TO BE INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT WHAT'S WRONG, AND GM SAYS TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP (GM, IN FACT, HUNG UP ON MY TODAY). SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT, GM, YOU KNOW YOU BUILT CARS WITH SOFTWARE PROBLEMS, BUT WE NEED TO PAY TO CORRECT THEM? AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN SURE IT WILL CORRECT IT??????
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED, THE PROPORTION POWER REDUCED INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT CALLED AN UNKNOWN DEALER IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL; HOWEVER, THE VIN SEARCH DID NOT LOCATE ANY RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE TWO MANUFACTURER RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.
FAULTY PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR AFTER WARRANTY
PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING AIRBAG TO DISABLE WHILE PASSENGER IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE PRESENTS 'SERVICE AIRBAG' MESSAGE IN THE DASHBOARD AND PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR IS SET TO OFF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALLEN GWYNN CHEVROLET (1400 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91204, (844) 633-8153) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. *DT *JB
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WONT WORK BECAUSE THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT IS BROKEN. CHEVY IS CHARGING OVER $1,000 TO REPAIR. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE. WHEN READING ONLINE THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND THE REPAIR COST IS EXTREMELY HIGH FOR SOMETHING THAT IS COMPLETELY CHEVY'S FAULT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFROST SYSTEM WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FELDMAN CHEVROLET OF NOVI (42355 GRAND RIVER, NOVI, MI 48375 (248) 289-3789) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COOLING PUMP WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SULLIVAN-PARKHILL AUTOMOTIVE (217-903-2817, LOCATED AT 440 W ANTHONY DR, CHAMPAIGN, IL 61822) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE T6 POWER MODULE WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS EXPECTING A CALL BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.
OUR 2013 CHEVY VOLT DIED IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY-BATTERY WENT OUT AFTER A REQUIRED SERVICE UPDATE. WE HAD HAD IT IN SHOP FOR LOW PROPULSON WARNINGS TWO TIMES BEFORE THAT. CHEVY SENT A RECALL STATING SPECIFICALLY THAT THE SERVICE UPDATE WOULD CAUSE LOW PROPULSION AND ULTIMATELY THE CAR COULD DIE, WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE CAR BATTERY DIED. DEALERSHIP & DIST MANAGER AGREED THAT WAS THE CAUSE AND SAID THEY WOULD REIMBURSE US $2788 FOR BATTERY. GM DENIED CLAIM AND REFUSES TO HONOR THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSED. THEY REALLY OWE THE WHOLE BALANCE OF $4,220.51.
IN AN EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATION ON A CITY STREET TO AVOID A CAR I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO PULSE FROM THE ABS SYSTEM. HIT CURB AND BUMPER HIT FENCE. TOOK CAR TO SERVICE TO LEARN ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROLLER FAILED. NO WARNING LIGHT ON DASH OF ANY KIND. HAVE LEARNED GM HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. COST TO REPAIR $2400.00. CAR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION, HAS BEEN TROUBLE FREE AND HAS ONLY 23,000 MILES ON IT.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR IS FAILING. THE CAR IS NOT THAT OLD. WE HAVE HAD NO SPILLS IN THE CAR. BUT THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS COMING ON. WE PAID THE DEALER $180 TO LOOK AT IT, BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. NOW THE SENSOR LIGHT IS COMING ON EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND FIXING WILL COST UP TO $1500. THAT IS CRAZY. MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR CHEVY VOLTS.
VOLT HAS MINIMAL PROPULSION WHEN STOMPING ON THE ACCELERATOR IN ELECTRIC OR HYBRID MODE. IT HAS LOST 60-70 PERCENT OF ITS POWER SINCE NEW. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY OR NEEDING TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. CHEVROLET SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE NOT WANTING TO HONOR ELECTRIC WARRANTY.
ON SEPT. 5TH 2018 I HIT THE CENTER ISLAND WHILE TURNING ON THE CITY STREET AT ABOUT 15MPH. THE IMPACT WAS SO SLIGHT THAT THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T EVEN DEPLOY. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERS ON IT'S OWN POWER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT THEIR APPRAISER ,JEREMY , TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. I HAD TO GET SOME ITEMS OUT OF MY CAR BEFORE THAT. THE MECHANIC HAD THE CAR ON THE RACK SO HE COULD SHOW ME. THE ONLY DAMAGE I READILY NOTICED WAS THE RADIATORS WERE CRUSHED, A 2 1/2" SQUARE FRAME CROSS MEMBER HAD A 1 1/2" DENT WHERE IT HAD IMPACTED THE ISLAND , AND SOME PANELS- NOTICEABLY THE FRONT UNDERSIDE AND DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL WELL WERE DAMAGED. LATER JEREMY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS.HE SAID THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS BENT OUT OF SHAPE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. IN HIS REPORT HE ITEMIZED THE PARTS BUT ABOUT THE PROPULSION SYSTEM HE WROTE, CONDITIONS EXIST THAT THE ELECTRICAL MOTORS COULD START UP THE GAS ENGINE AND FLOOD THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH CO. WELL IF THAT'S THE CASE, WHY DON'T THEY SIMPLY REPLACE THE COMPONENTS THAT WOULD LEAD TO THAT CONDITION OR IF IT WAS INHERENT IN THE CAR, WHY DOESN'T THE DOT DECLARE THE CAR A ROAD HAZZARD AND RECALL ALL VEHICLES? LN CONSUMER REPORTS THEY DECLARED THE VOLT SCORED 5 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 RATING ON COLLISION SURVIVAL. WHAT? THE CAR RUNNING AT 15 MPH GETTING TOTALLED BY HITTING A BUMP IS A 5? I THINK MR. JEREMY IS PADDING ALL HIS ESTIMATES AND SHOULD HAVE AN INDEPENDENT APPRAISER REVIEW THE CAR. EITHER HE IS LYING OR THE CAR IS ACTUALLY A LEMON. I WOULD LIKE YOUR ADVICE ON WHAT LEGAL COURSE I SHOULD TAKE.
WHILE IN MOTION MY CAR SPORADICALLY DISPLAYS "SERVICE AIR BAG SYSTEM." UPON DIAGNOSIS, DEALER STATED THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WITH 77,000 MILES. SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR THIS ITEM TO BE FAILING. RESEARCHING CHEVROLET VOLT OWNER FORUM YIELDS NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS SAME ISSUE.
SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE IS ON. COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR. THE PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACED AN AIRBAG SENSOR, AND THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED.
AIR BAG PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILURE. WHEN THERE IS NO PASSENGER IN THE SEAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LITE COMES ON. WHEN AN ADULT IS IN THE SEAT THE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON UNLESS THE PERSON MOVES AROUND, THEN IT COMES ON AND THEN RESETS ITSELF.
THE CAR REDUCES SPEED WITHOUT ADVANCE WARNING ON HWY AND DECREASES TO 30-40 MPH IN A 65-70 MPH ZONE. THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING, SOME SAFETY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS MALFUNCTION MID DRIVE AND RESUME WORKING
PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AND TURNS ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHETHER OR NOT PASSENGER IS OCCUPYING THE PASSENGER SEAT. UNSAFE IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AS AIRBAGS WON'T DEPLOY.
I'VE BROUGHT MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES BECAUSE IT DIES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER MULTIPLE TIMES. ONE OF THE "FIXES" WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT ENDED UP AS A RECALL BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO DIE SUDDENLY (IT'S RECALL #N172130460, WHICH CAME OUT TWO DAYS BEFORE MY LATEST INCIDENT, BUT I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL UNTIL 7/28/18...6 WEEKS AFTER MY LAST INCIDENT). THE MOST RECENT TIME THE CAR DIED (6/16/18), I WAS ON A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY AND I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT GET HIT AS I PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE. THERE WAS NO SIGNAGE THERE EXCEPT FOR THE "CAUTION BEAR XING" SIGN. AFTER TOWING MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP (IN CARSON CITY, NV, AN 8 HOUR ORDEAL), I HAD EXPENSES FOR LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION (INCLUDING LYFT TO SOUTH LAKE TAHOE TO RENT A CAR BECAUSE NO RENTAL CAR OFFICES OPEN ON SUNDAY IN CARSON CITY, THEN FLYING TO RENO AND TAKING A LYFT TO CARSON CITY TO PICK UP THE CAR BECAUSE CHEVY REFUSED TO SHIP THE CAR TO ME EVEN THOUGH I SAID THAT I WAS AFRAID AND DIDN'T TRUST THE CAR IN THE MOUNTAINS). CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CONCIERGE SERVICES REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME BECAUSE I HAD THE CAR TOWED MYSELF INSTEAD OF CALLING THEIR "CONCIERGE SERVICE" TO TOW IT BECAUSE THAT'S "POLICY." HOW ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS SO THAT THEY MAY LIVE TO DRIVE ANOTHER DAY? I'M NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN THE EXPENSES INCURRED FROM THE LAST ADVENTURE: $1040.72, WHICH I CAN ITEMIZE. OTHER TIMES THAT MY CAR HAS DIED INCLUDE: WHILE MAKING A U-TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION (IN 2016), IT DIED AND STARTED BACK UP AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED 20 MINUTES LATER AND A SEPARATE TIME WAS WHEN THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL BUT THEN STARTED UP AGAIN TWO HOURS LATER AS IF THERE WAS NEVER AN ISSUE.EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENED, I HAD A "POWER PROPULSION REDUCED" WARNING ON MY DASHBOARD. I SEE ONLINE THAT MANY HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE.
MY 2013 CHEV VOLT SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON FREQUENTLY. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME OVER $800 TO FIX IT. I HAVE READ ONLINE OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I WANT MY CAR TO BE SAFE. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAIN REGARDING A "SERVICE AIR BAG" LIGHT PRESENT IN MY CAR. THE LIGHT TURNS ON SUDDENLY REGARDLESS A PASSENGER IS PRESENT OR NOT. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR PARKED. I TOOK THE CAR TO BE INSPECTED AND THE CODES GIVEN WERE: B0081 AND B0074 (PASSENGER PRESENCE MALFUNCTION) THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IF THE PART WAS NOT CHANGED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT; IT HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO ANY LIQUIDS THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE. THE ESTIMATE PROVIDED AND REPAIRS WERE $980 (PART ONLY: $500) PLUS TAX. SO FAR, I WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS CAR BUT IT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT NEGLIGENCE OF THE DRIVER IS NOT COVERED IN THE MANUFACTURING WARRANTY. UPON STUMBLING WITH THIS ISSUE I REALIZED THAT IT IS A COMMON MALFUNCTION OF THIS CAR FROM OTHER OWNERS AS WELL. I WOULD KINDLY ASK YOU TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THIS ISSUE AND INVESTIGATE IT SO THAT THE COMPANY CAN ISSUE A RECALL AND CUSTOMERS NO LONGER HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A VOLUNTARY REPAIR OR NOT HAVING A PASSENGER AIRBAG IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT IN SUCH MODERN CAR.
MY SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SEAT IS FAULTY MY AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT KEEPS ON TURNING ON AND OFF CONSISTENTLY. NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT OR SPILLS ON THE SEAT.
THERE IS A CAPACITIVE FIELD DETECTOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ALSO CALLED A PASSENGER POSITION SENSOR. INSTEAD OF A SIMPLE BUCKLE DETECTOR THIS PART HAS FAILED IN MY CAR AT 76,000 MILES AND THE AFFECT IS THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DISABLED. THE PART IS APPARENTLY AROUND 800$ AS THE ENTIRE SEAT ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED. THE INDICATOR ON THE DASH SIMPLY SAYS TO SERVICE THE AIRBAGS. IT MAY BE ANECDOTAL DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT NATURE OF THE FAILURE BUT IT SEEMED TO CLEAR WHEN I ACCELERATED AND FAIL UPON BREAKING, SLOWING DOWN OR GOING DOWN HILL. THIS SEEMS LIKE THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHEN YOU'D WANT YOUR AIRBAGS TO BECOME DISABLED.
GAS GENERATOR FAILED TO START WHEN BATTERY WAS DEPLETED WHILE ON CITY STREET SLOWING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. WARNING MESSAGE ABOUT REDUCED PROPULSION AND YELLOW ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF. TRIED TURNING BACK ON, RECEIVED WAITING TO INITIALIZE MESSAGE, BUT POWER TO ENGINE WAS NEVER RESTORED. TOWED CAR TO DEALERSHIP.
THE VEHICLE WOULD ISSUE A WARNING DING WITH A DASHBOARD INDICATOR SAYING, "SERVICE AIRBAG." THE DASHBOARD AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD THEN ILLUMINATE. THE WARNING WOULD REMAIN ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, THEN THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD EXTINGUISH. INITIALLY THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ONLY ILLUMINATE WHEN A PASSENGER WAS RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND EVEN THEN WOULD ONLY HAPPEN INFREQUENTLY. OVER A SIX MONTH PERIOD OF TIME THE AIRBAG WARNING WOULD OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY, AND EVENTUALLY WOULD ILLUMINATE EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP BLAMED THE CONDITION ON EITHER 1) THE SEAT GETTING WET AND DAMAGING THE SENSOR (WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED), OR 2) THE REPEATED ACT OF PLACING MY 10-20LB LAPTOP BACKPACK ON THE PASSENGER SEAT (WOULDN'T A 200 LB PASSENGERS BE MORE LIKELY TO DAMAGE A SENSOR THAN A 20LB BACKPACK?).
PASSENGER PRESSENCE MODULE SENSOR GETS DETORIATED WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT MOVES BACK AND FORTH. BASICALLY RUINING THE TOO SHORT WIRING CONNECTING TO THE SENSORS. THIS MAKES THE AIRBAG NONDEPLOYABLE. THE COMPUTER THINKS NO ONE IS SITTING THERE, ESSENTIALLY. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AND GOES ON AND OFF, BUT HAS STAYED ON CONSISTENTLY.
THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT IS THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT 'PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE' THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF OVER $800. THE CAR IS A 2013 WITH 79K MILES, SO IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT I JUST FIND IT REALLY DISAPPOINTING THAT THIS KIND OF MANUFACTURER ISSUE IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER THROUGH A RECALL OR FACTORY WARRANTY. THIS ISN'T AN ISSUE OF ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, AND THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, SO IT JUST DOES NOT SEEM LIKE SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $800 FOR.
GAS GENERATOR FAILED TO START WHEN BATTERY WAS DEPLETED WHILE ON FREEWAY. WARNING MESSAGE ABOUT REDUCED PROPULSION AND YELLOW ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THEN FEWS MOMENTS AFTER VEHICLE COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND WAS SLOWING DOWN SO PULLED OVER ONTO SHOULDER AND GOT TOWED VEHICLE WILL NOT CHARGE EITHER WHEN PLUGGED IN.
DRIVING, SO SPILLS ON SEATS, SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON. $800. FIX AT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL ON THIS FUSE? I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT.I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR A YEAR AGO. NO ACCIDENTS, NOTHING AMISS OTHERWISE, LOVE THE CAR, GAVE UP MY NEWER PRIUS TO GET THIS CAR.
MY AIRBAG SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY COMES IN AND OFF. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $900. I HAVE READ ON A VOLT FORUM THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY OF US. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM.
PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE NEEDS REPLACING AT A DEALER-QUOTED COST OF $700. REAR SEAT STITCHING CAME APART, REQUIRING SEVERAL HOURS OF REPAIR. 2 BAD 12 VOLT BATTERIES IN 36,000 MILES HAVE SOMEHOW AFFECTED THE MAIN COMPUTER AND I HAVEN'T RECEIVED A QUOTE YET. BAD OIL LINE CONNECTION ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. MECHANIC SAID DEFECTIVE CRIMP. BOUGHT THE CAR IN 6/15 AT 16,000 MILES WITH A RECONSTRUCTED TITLE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN ACCIDENT. I DOUBT THAT THE ACCIDENT INFLUENCED ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. THE CAR PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY FOR 10,000 AFTER I BOUGHT IT (EXCEPT FOR THE 12 VOLT BATTERY).
WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THIS CHEVY VOLT'S ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CRASHED CAUSING ME TO CRASH RIGHT ALONG WITH IT. NO BRAKES (ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FAIL)NO STEERING OR HORN EVEN WORSE...NO AIR BAGS.... RESULTS: MULTI-CAR COLLISION WITH NO FATALITIES BUT, SEVERAL INJURYS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING CONNECTION UNDER THE SEAT HAD A SHORT, WHICH CAUSED THE SENSOR MAT NOT TO FUNCTION. HENDERSON CHEVROLET (240 N GIBSON RD, HENDERSON, NV 89014, 702-558-2438) WAS NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED THREE TSBS FOR THE AIR BAGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SENSOR IN PASSENGER SEAT GOES BAD GIVING AIR BAG ERROR
"SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY. ORIGINAL CAUSE APPEARED TO BE MOVEMENT OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT; RECENT CAUSES WERE SUDDEN BRAKING AND RANDOM NORMAL SPEED CORNERING. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM, BUT UNABLE. DEALER HAND TIGHTENED WIRES UNDER SEAT. PROBLEM CORRECTED FOR A FEW WEEKS, THEN RETURNED. SUGGESTED NEXT STEP BY DEALER: REPLACE PPS MODULE. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS $800+ REPAIR WITH NO GUARANTEED OUTCOME. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER VOLT OWNERS IN INTERNET POSTS. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF GM HAS ANY FIXES NOT KNOWN TO DEALER.
SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING DURING OR SHORTLY AFTER SOMEONE SITS IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. ALSO SEE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES "OFF" FOR EXTENDED PERIOD. DEALER STATES IT IS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST YEAR. BELIEVE THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT, AND ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD, AS AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN A COLLISION.
THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT SINCE I HAD THIS CAR ALONG WITH CHARGING ISSUE IN THE BEGINNING OF OWNERSHIP THIS CHEVROLET VOLT HAS BEEN BEEN DEEM TOTAL FROM THE ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED ON JANUARY 6 BECAUSE OF THE STEERING LOCKING UP
WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE SERVICE AIRBAG INDICATOR COMES ON. DEALER REVIEWED CODES AND DETERMINED THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS FAULTY. THE SERVICE TECH STATED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT INFLATE UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $850.00. THERE ARE ONLY 56,000 MILES ON THE CAR, BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 40,000 MILES.
PAID DEALER $160 TO FIND OUT PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE HAD FAILED. THEY'RE ASKING FOR ANOTHER $820 (MOSTLY LABOR) TO FIX THE ISSUE BY REPLACING WITH PART #22968438 IN THE PASSENGER SEAT...SO I'M DRIVING AROUND WITH A BAD AIRBAG I GUESS. CAN'T SEE SPENDING 1000.00 RIGHT NOW TO FIX A BLINKING WARNING LIGHT. I SEE ON THE WEB THAT OTHERS ARE ALSO HAVING THIS PROBLEM, AND WONDER HOW MANY VOLT OWNERS ARE DRIVING WITH BAD AIRBAGS WAITING FOR A RECALL TO BE ANNOUNCED. SEEMS LIKE A PART THAT JUST SHOULDN'T HAVE MUCH WEAR-AND-TEAR, AND SHOULD MAYBE NEVER BECOME AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR ISSUE. ENGINE, TRANNY, TIRES, ETC. - SURE. BUT NOT THE DANG AIRBAG SYSTEM. MY CELL IF YOU WANT MORE DETAILS [XXX] PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *CC
RADIATOR FAILURE/LEAKING AT 67000 MILES. UNKNOWN CAUSE. CAUSED CAR TO OVERHEAT AND HAD TO BE SHUT DOWN TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL/BATTERY COMPONENTS. COST TO REPAIR EXCEEDS $1500.
DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, MULTIPLE LANES.." REDUCED POWER" MESSAGE APPEARS ON DASH..CAR SHUTS DOWN IMMEDIATELY...NO STEERING ASSIST...BRAKES OKAY...STUCK IN MIDDLE LANES WITH NO PROPULSION...LUCKILY A FIRETRUCK HAPPENED BY AND WAS PUSHED OFF THE ROAD...CAR TOWED TO DEALER. INFORMED MULTIPLE VOLTS TOWED IN FOR SAME ISSUE. ALSO INFORMED EXTREME BACKORDER FOR REPAIR BATTERY ACROSS U. S. TOLD APPROX 2 MONTH WAIT FOR BATTERY SECTION...ONCE THIS BATTERY FAILS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, YOU ARE DEAD IN THE WATER...NO POWER STEERING AND UNABLE TO MOVE IN OR OUT OF TRAFFIC...IF THIS DEALER HAS 3 CARS, HOW MANY UNSAFE CARS ARE THERE ACROSS THE COUNTRY?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. AFTER FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,222.
LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD!
TAILGATE STRIKER LATCH P/N 13581431 (ON BODY, NOT TAILGATE) LOOSE FOUND THE 2 SCREWS P/N 11518445 WERE LOOSE AND REAR TAILGATE WAS RATTLING.
ONBOARD SCREEN STOPPED WORKING AFTER CAR WASN'T USED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THE BUTTON LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON AND OFF. AC, SEAT HEATERS AND CAR FUNCTIONS NORMALLY EXCEPT RADIO AND THE MIDPANEL SCREEN. SINCE THE SCREEN DOESN'T TURN ON CONTROLLING THE AC IS DONE THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR.
THIS NOTE IS SUPPLEMENTAL TO NHTSA #10940031 OF 1/1/17. THE TIRE THAT HAD JUST REPLACED THE SECOND FAILED TIRE ALSO SUSTAINED DAMAGE DEEMED TO BE UNACCEPTABLE TO REPAIR ONLY ABOUT 200 MILES AFTER IT WAS INSTALLED. GIVEN 3 OF THESE TIRES FAILED VERY PREMATURELY OVER 7.5K MILES, NEVER MIND 2 IN 200 MILES, THIS SUGGESTED TO ME A POSSIBLE ATYPICAL WEAKNESS IN THE DESIGN OF THESE TIRES SO I SCRAPPED ALL 4 FUEL MAX TIRES AND REPLACED THEM WITH THE FAR SUPERIOR GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TRIPLETRED TIRES. HAVING PUT 70K+/- MILES ON A SET OF PREVIOUSLY OWNED TRIPLETRED TIRES WITHOUT A SINGLE FAILURE UNDER VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL CONDITIONS TO THOSE I USED THE FUEL MAX TIRES UNDER I CAN STATE WITH CONFIDENCE THAT THEY ARE MUCH MORE DAMAGE RESISTANT TIRES THAN THE FUEL MAX VERSION OF THE ASSURANCE LINE IN ADDITION TO HAVING NOTICEABLY GREATER/SAFER TRACTION IN RAIN AND SNOW. *TR
MY LCD INFOTAINMENT SCREEN WENT BLANK AND IT WON'T TURN BACK ON. IT HAS HAPPEN COUPLE OF TIMES. MY SCREEN FROZE YESTERDAY AND I SHUT DOWN HE CAR, LOCKED, WALKED OUT FOR 2 MINUTES AND CAME BACK THE SCREEN WAS BLACK. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT A LOT CHEVROLET VOLT LCD SCREEN BLANK OUT A LOT. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE, I CAN'T USE MY RADIO, MY BACK UP CAMERA OR SENSORS. THE CAR HAS A LOT OF BLIND SPOTS AND IT IS HARD FOR ME TO BACK OUT. ALSO, I READ ONLINE THAT CHEVROLET HAS A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VOLT LCD STOP WORKING AFTER 36,000 MILES. PLEASE HELP, BECAUSE THIS IS ISSUE THE COMPANY KNOWS BUT HASN'T FIX.
ONE OF THE PRONGS ON THE PORTABLE CHARGER GOT STUCK IN THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET. NOW WE ARE UNABLE TO CHARGE IT AT HOME WITHOUT LOCATING AN INCONVENIENTLY LOCATED CHARGING STATION.
WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, IF ONE SIDE OF THE CAR GOES OVER A POT HOLE, THE CAR LOSES BRAKING POWER AND CONTINUES FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE GOES INTO A POTHOLE WHILE TRYING TO STOP AT AN ONCOMING RED LIGHT, THE CAR DISPLAYS A MESSAGE IN RED LETTERS ON THE DASHBOARD REFERENCING LOW TRACTION WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY LOSING BRAKING POWER. THE CAR CONTINUES FORWARD WITH NO BRAKING POWER EVEN THOUGH I STILL HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT ONLY RECOVERS BRAKING POWER AFTER TWO SECONDS. UNFORTUNATELY, BY THEN, IT MIGHT BE TOO LATE TO STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DANGEROUS SOFTWARE ERROR WITH THE TRACTION OR ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM.
THESE TIRES ARE SHOWN AS BEING THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES GM PUT ON THEIR VOLTS. IN MY EXPERIENCE THEY ARE SEVERELY BELOW NORMAL DURABILITY. MY VOLT'S FL TIRE WAS REPLACED AT 17K MILES (SLOW SIDEWALL LEAK) FOLLOWED BY THE RR FAILING AT 24K MILES (CATASTROPHIC). DESPITE THE USUAL POTHOLE AND ROAD DEBRIS ENCOUNTERS MY PREVIOUS SET OF PIRELLI P4 TIRES RAN 115K+ MILES FAILURE FREE AND THE MICHELINS I HAD BEFORE THEM LASTED 64K MILES WITHOUT A FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, I SEE MY TWO REMAINING FACTORY TIRES ARE DOWN TO 6/32 TO 7/32 OF AN INCH TREAD AFTER ONLY 24K MILES WHICH MIGHT EXPLAIN THEIR DISTRESSINGLY POOR GRIP IN RAIN AND SNOW. TO PUT THAT WEAR IN PERSPECTIVE, THE PIRELLI TIRES STILL HAD FROM 5/32 TO 7/32 OF AN INCH TREAD LEFT WHEN AT 115K MILES. THAT THESE TIRES SEEMINGLY NEED REPLACING AT THE RATE OF ONE TIRE ROUGHLY EVERY 6K TO 12K MILES SUGGESTS THEY SUFFER FROM A FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN DEFICIENCY. I GATHER MY EXPERIENCE IS NOT A FLUKE. A VISIT TO A VOLT OWNERS' SITE FOUND COMPLAINTS OF 5 FLATS IN 36K MILES, 2 FLATS IN UNDER A YEAR, 3 FLATS IN 3 MONTHS, 2 FLATS IN ONE YEAR, 4 FLATS IN A YEAR AND A HALF, 2 FLATS IN 10 MONTHS AND 2 FLATS IN 22K MILES. SUCH DISMAL RELIABILITY AND APPARENT DANGEROUS FRAGILITY SUGGESTS A RECALL, OR AT LEAST AN INVESTIGATION, MIGHT BE JUSTIFIED FOR SAFETY. NO SIGNAL AT FUSE BLOCK FOR RAP RELAY. ALL ELECTRICAL PORTS WERE NON-FUNCTIONAL AND TOT HE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE DASH, THERE WAS A FREQUENT CLICKING OF THE RELAY SWITCH CLICKING ON AND OFF. WHILE DRIVING I EXPERIENCED A PUNCTURE IN THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE RESULTING IN RAPID DEFLATING OF THE TIRE. AS I WAS AT THE APEX OF A BRIDGE, I SLOWED AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE BRIDGE TO THE SHOULDER (BRIDGE HAS NO SAFETY LANE OR SHOULDER) BEFORE THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. IN THE DRIZZLING RAIN I REMEMBERED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A SPARE OR A DOUGHNUT, BUT AN EMERGENCY TIRE REPAIR INFLATOR. THAT DIDN'T WORK AS IT NEEDED POWER FROM ANY OF THE NON-FUNCTIONING PORTS. TRYING TO INFLATE THE TIRE IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THE NON-FUNCTIONING PORTS AND THE CLICKING NOISE HAD STARTED SHORTLY BEFORE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
ABOUT A YEAR AGO I CALL CHEVY ABOUT MY GAS PEDAL PULLING ITSELF TO THE GROUND AND THE CAR TAKING OFF MORE THAN ONCE. THEY NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. DONT PUSH THE PEDAL WHEN CAR IS OFF CAUSE WHEN YOU TURN IT ON IT WILL DO THIS...I THINK OCT 2016 I WAS ELECTROCUTED UN PLUGING MY CAR. THE 3 PRONGS BURNED MY ARM THAT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME ALONG WITH MY LUNGS BRAIN AND TIREDNES ! I PASSED OUT COLD IT TOOK ME WEEKS OF CRYING TO ADMIT TO MYSELF WHAT HAPPEN. I FELT ANGRY AND LIKE THE PLUG HIT ME GOING 100 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT HOW BEING SHOCKED MAKES YOU FEEL.
OCT 24TH MORNING MURRIETA, CA , IT WAS RAINING AND BIG THUNDERS AND LIGHTING. MY WIFE STARTED FOR WORK , THE CAR WAS FULLY CHARGED. SHE MADE HER USUAL RIGHT TURN FROM " MURRIETTA HOTSPRINGS RD " TO " BUTTERFIELD STAGE ROAD" IN CITY OF MURRIETA / TEMECULA CA. SHE PUT THE CAR IN "REGENERATION MODE" AS THE ROAD WAS DOWN HILL. THERE WAS A BIG LIGHTING AND FOLLOWED BY A BIG THUNDER SOUNDS. SHE SAW WHITE LIGHT AND WAS BLINDED FOR FRACTION OF SECOND, IT WAS RAINING HEAVY, IMMEDIATELY SHE FELT THE CAR WAS FLOATED/DRIFTING TO LEFT , HIT THE CENTER RAOD DIVIDER AND ALL AIR BAGS WERE ALREADY DEPLOYED. SHE TRIED HER BEST TO PULL THE CAR TO RIGHT (SHE COULD NOT SEE DUE TO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ALL EXCEPT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG) BUT COULD NOT DO SO , SHE ALSO STATED THE STEERING WAS STRUCK. THE CAR CAME TO STOP AFTER JUMPING INTO OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET. NO OTHER CAR WAS INVOLVED. MOST OF THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR WAS TO THE FRONT WHEELS, FRONT UNDER BODY DUE TO IMPACT WITH THE CENTER ROAD DIVIDER. ALL AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED EXCEPT FOR THE PASSENGER. SHE WAS ALONE IN THE CAR. THE POLICE AND EMD WERE AT THE SCENE AFTER 10 -15 MINS AS SOMEONE HAD ALREADY CALLED 911. I WAS AT THE SCEEN AS THE LOCATION WAS 10 MINS FROM MY HOME. THE POLICE REPORT IS STILL DUE AS I NOTIFY YOU. INSURANCE DECLARED TOTAL LOSS. MY WIFE HAD MINOR INJURIES DUE TO AIR BAGS. WE HOPE SOMEONE CAN FIND ANSWERS FOR THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. 1) DID LIGHTING CAUSE ANY ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE WITH VEHICLE ELECTRONICS WHICH MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT ? 2) WHY DID AIR BAGS DEPLOY IF THE WHEELS HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER . OR WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF AIRBAGS DEPLOYMENT ?
I HAVE A 2013 CHEVY VOLT. THE OTHER DAY WHILE DRIVING MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLACK. I COULDN'T SEE MY SPEED, FUEL, REMAINING BATTERY, SIGNAL INDICATORS. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING GOING ON WITH THE CAR. THE MAIN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPORTS ON EVERYTHING. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD , "YEAH THESE THINGS GO OFTEN AND YOUR OUT OF WARRANTY". I ALSO LOOKED THIS UP ONLINE AND THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER VOLT OWNERS THAT ARE DEALING WITH THIS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. GM KNOWS THEY ARE SELLING A BAD PRODUCT. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SPEND $1200 ON A NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS. HERE IS A LINK TO SOME OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. HTTP://GM-VOLT.COM/FORUM/ARCHIVE/INDEX.PHP/T-9451.HTML
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS OVER 75 MPH, THE "PROPULSION POWER LOW DECREASE SPEED" MESSAGE DISPLAYED AND THE SPEED DECREASED TO 55 MPH. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, SMOKE WAS PRESENT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THE ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD, MY HAND PRESSED AGAINST THE GEAR SHIFTER AND IT SHIFTED FROM L TO D WITHOUT PRESSING THE GEAR RELEASE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A ROAD IN INDIANAPOLIS AT 35 MILES PER HOUR, MY CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND A MESSAGE READING " ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE - SERVICE SOON" APPEARED ON MY HUD. MY CAR ONLY HAS 32,800 MILES ON IT AND A CLEAN TITLE. NOTHING ABOUT MY DRIVING CHANGED TO CAUSE THIS ISSUE, IT WAS SUDDEN AND WITHOUT APPARENT CAUSE. I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC, AND GM JUST RESET THE CODES. IT IS DRIVING OK FOR NOW, BUT A RESET OF CODES IS A TEMPORARY FIX TO THE ISSUE, AND I'VE READ EXTENSIVELY ABOUT MANY, MANY OTHER VOLT OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO HAVE YOUR ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGH WAY DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS LOOKED INTO, AND I FEEL THAT GM IS TRYING TO BURY IT WITH RESETS WHICH AREN'T WORKING FOR MOST PEOPLE.
WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, I WENT TO CHANGE THE DRIVE MODE, BUT I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE POWER BUTTON. WHEN I HIT THE POWER BOTTOM THE CAR SHUT DOWN. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR WHILE THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN DRIVE, SO I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND REBOOT THE CAR. I WAS VERY SURPRISED THAT I WAS ABLE TO POWER OFF THE CAR WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 40-45 MPH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE SERVICE HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
MY VOLT WAS PURCHASED NEW WITH THE GOODYEAR ASSURANCE FUEL MAX TIRES. AT ONLY 17,000 MILES, I EXPERIENCED A BLOW-OUT AND COMPLETE FLATTENING OF A REAR TIRE WHILE GENTLY SLOWING TO ONLY 25 MPH IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON A LOCAL SUBURBAN STREET . THERE WAS NO DEBRIS IN THE ROAD. THE BLOW-OUT LEFT THE TIRE WITH A HOLE THE SIZE OF A PENCIL. CONSEQUENTLY, IT WAS NOT REPARABLE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THIS TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER BUT OF COURSE, WAS NOT. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TIRES.
WHILE ENTERING IN THE HIGHWAY THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE REGARDLESS THE FACT THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CAR DECELERATED AND THEN STALLED. THE CAR HAS BEEN REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND IT WAS A VEHICLE FAILURE.
MY VOLT REAR TAIL LIGHT IS FULL OF WATER. DEALER TOLD ME NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN HIT, BUMPED, OR EVEN BEEN INTO A CAR WASH. FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND I CANNOT GET ANYONE TO LISTEN TO ME. I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE ON LINE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN WOULD ACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE STARTED OCCURRING AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V145000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH, WHICH SAID "PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED," FOLLOWED BY, "ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE. SERVICE SOON," AS WELL AS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I PRESSED THE ONSTAR BUTTON TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG BUT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE ERROR MESSAGE AND COULD NOT ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION WITH THE VEHICLE TO PERFORM DIAGNOSTICS. WHILE ON HOLD WITH ONSTAR, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPONTANEOUSLY DECELERATE VERY RAPIDLY DESPITE MY ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE, IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. I MADE IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY, LIMPING ALONG AT 3-10 MPH, WITH THE HELP OF A GOOD SAMARITAN WHO BLOCKED TRAFFIC FOR ME. THIS IS A SPONTANEOUS OCCURRENCE, WITH NO MAINTENANCE NEGLIGENCE TO EXPLAIN THE EVENT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHICH HAS YET TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (INCLUDING MOTOR) SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING AT 5 MPH OR LESS IN A PARKING LOT. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. INVESTIGATED BY DEALER ON 3/27/15. THEY REPORTED A NOTICE FROM CHEVROLET ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITHOUT RESOLUTION. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM NOR PROVIDE ANY FIX.
AFTER DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AT 55 MPH I NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO BE STUCK IN THE CENTER POSITION. WITH A SLIGHT FORCE IT SEEMED TO COME OFF OF A NOTCH AND RESUME NORMAL FEEL UNTIL ONCE AGAIN I TRAVELED FOR SOME TIME IN A STRAIGHT LINE. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANT I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND PINION BUT I AM ENTERING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT CONFIRM THAT THE PARTS THEY USED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHERE ANY DIFFERENT THAT THE ORIGINAL PARTS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM AFTER 19000 MILES OF DRIVING. NOR WOULD THEY TELL ME THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE MANY CHEVY VOLTS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER 19K MILES AND PERHAPS IN A MORE SERIOUS FASHION. *TR
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 8/27/14, AND RESULTED IN MY WIFE ME TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND TREATED FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT OUR HOME. THE VOLT WAS PARKED IN THE ENCLOSED GARAGE ON 8/26 AROUND 7PM. THE 240 VOLT CHARGER WAS PLUGGED IN AS USUAL. I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL AFTER PLUGGING IN THE CHARGER, AND THE VOLT WAS LEFT UNATTENDED UNTIL THE EMS ARRIVED AROUND 11AM THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE EMS PERSONNEL FOUND THE ENGINE RUNNING, VERY HIGH LEVELS OF CO UPON ENTERING THE GARAGE AND EVEN HIGHER LEVELS INSIDE THE CAR. THE INSIDE OF THE PASSAGE COMPARTMENT WAS DESCRIBED AS HOT. THE FRONT EXTERIOR OF THE CAR WAS TO HOT TO TOUCH AND THE CAR REAR WARM. THE TEMPERATURE UNDER THE CAR HOOD WAS DESCRIBED AS "RED HOT". THE ENGINE HAD CONSUMED AROUND 5 GALLONS OF GAS DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. DISTRIBUTION OF THE CO THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE A/C AIR HANDLER WHICH IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GARAGE. DATA DUMPS REVEALED POWER AND STARTING BATTERIES WERE EXHAUSTED, AND NO FAULT FLAGS DROPPED. I BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAS REVEALED: -THE TEMPERATURE LEVELS REACHED UNDER THE HOOD PROBABLY EXCEEDED THE SAFE OPERATING LEVELS OF THE DIGITAL SYSTEMS SOLID STATE JUNCTIONS RENDERING ANY DATA COLLECTED (OR NOT COLLECTED) AS UNRELIABLE. -THE LITHIUM ION AND STARTING BATTERIES WERE TOTALLY W/O CHARGE. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN WHEN THE SOLE FUNCTION OF THE GAS ENGINE ( WHICH WAS RUNNING WHEN DISCOVERED BY THE FIREMEN ) IS TO CHARGE THESE BATTERIES UNLESS A FAILURE OCCURRED. NOTE: ALL PERSONAL INFO STORED IN THE CAR ENTERTAINMENT HARD DRIVE SYSTEM WAS LOST. -HOW CAN THE CAR OUTSIDE SURFACE GET THAT HOT? ONE POSSIBILITY IS THE BODY IS TEMPORARILY USED AS A RETURN GROUND PASSING VERY HIGH LEVELS OF CURRENT BECAUSE OF A FAILURE. *TR
I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE ON THE CAR DASH DISPLAY: PROPULSION REDUCED-ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE. THIS MESSAGE CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE CARPOOL LANE. I CALLED GM THRU ON STAR AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A CATASTROPHIC ERROR AND NEEDED TO GET MY CAR INTO REPAIR WITH 24 HOURS. WITH ONLY 6 MILES LEFT ON THE BATTERY, I TOLD THE GM REP THAT I BETTER GET THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN CULVER CITY. THE MINUTE I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY OF THE DEALERSHIP, MY CAR STOPPED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER IF THE CAR HAD STOPPED IN THE CARPOOL LANE. I HAVE READ OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ON GOOGLE AND YAHOO. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE MODULE, WHICH THEY SAID WOULD TAKE 8 HOURS TO REPAIR, BUT WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THEY ONLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE. SINCE THE INCIDENT, I ONLY GET A FULL CHARGE OF 32 TO 34 MILES, WHERE BEFORE THE INCIDENT I WAS GETTING A FULL CHARGE OF 42 TO 44 MILES PER CHARGE. THIS IS DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE AS GM BLAMES THE DRIVER FOR THE PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE MODULE ON MY CAR. *TR
WAS ENTERING HIGHWAY IN THE DARK AND WENT TO PUT THE CAR INTO "HOLD" MODE TO RUN THE GAS ENGINE AND SAVE BATTERY CHARGE. THIS REQUIRES PUSHING A BUTTON 3 TIMES. I REACHED OVER AND PUSHED THE BUTTON. ACCIDENTLY WAS PUSHING THE "POWER" BUTTON WHICH IS RIGHT BELOW THE "MODE" BUTTON SHUTTING DOWN THE CAR. THE ENTIRE CAR SHUTS OFF, NO LIGHTS, POWERTRAIN, PS, PB JUST DEAD. THIS IS EASY TO DO IF YOU ARE WATCHING THE ROAD AND JUST GLANCE DOWN TO THE BUTTONS. THEY ARE PLACED TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND THIS IS GOING TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF IN TRAFFIC OR ON WINDING ROADS. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ON THE VOLT FORUM! *TR
WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A MODERATE RATE OF DECELERATION, I NOTICED THAT MY DRIVERS SEAT HAD FORWARD/BACKWARD PLAY IN IT. THE ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND NOTICING THAT MY SEAT BACK SHIFTED FORWARD (~1/2" OF PLAY). I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AT A STOP BY SHIFTING MY WEIGHT IN THE SEAT. ALL MOTION APPEARS TO SOURCE FROM THE RECLINING MECHANISM, NOT THE SEAT RAILS. THIS ISSUE WAS PRESENTED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP BUT THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THE ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED IN A NEW VEHICLE SO IT WAS LABELED AS "INTENDED OPERATION." A REPEAT INVESTIGATION IN SEPTEMBER 2014 ALSO PRODUCED THE SAME RESPONSE. AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE SAFETY SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE, IT IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A SEAT TO HAVE PLAY IN THE RECLINING MECHANISM AND EQUALLY AS INAPPROPRIATE FOR THAT TO BE CONSIDERED "INTENDED OPERATION." THE PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT EXHIBIT THESE ISSUES, AND A REVIEW OF THE GM-VOLT.COM FORUMS INDICATES THAT WHILE THE PROBLEM EXISTS IN OTHER VEHICLES, IT IS BY NO MEANS UNIVERSAL ACROSS THE MODEL. *TR
I'VE LEASED MY 2013 VOLT FOR 1 1/2 YEARS. JULY 3RD I GOT 2 FLAT TIRES (BOTH DRIVER SIDE, REAR AND FRONT). I BOUGHT 2 NEW TIRES AND THE SERVICE AT CHEVY PUT THEM ON THE 2 FRONT WHEELS. EXACTLY 2 MONTHS LATER, I GOT 2 MORE FLAT TIRES (PASSENGER SIDE, FRONT AND REAR). I FIND IT INCREDIBLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT 4 NEW TIRES ARE NOW FLAT. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS AND HAVE OWNED MANY DIFFERENT NEW CARS, AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED! I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING EITHER ABOUT THE CAR BEING ELECTRIC OR THE TYPE OF TIRES THAT IS CAUSING FLATS. BESIDES BEING VERY EXPENSIVE, IT IS ALSO VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON FLAT TIRES. *TR
CHEVY VOLT IS AN EXTENDED RANGE ELECTRIC VEHICLE, IT USES A GAS POWERED GENERATOR TO PROVIDE ELECTRIC POWER FOR DRIVING IF THE BATTERY HAS DROPPED BELOW A CERTAIN VOLTAGE. I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE AT HOME AND NEGLECTED TO POWER DOWN THE ELECTRIC SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A BLUE POWER BUTTON ON THE CENTER CONSOLE, IF YOU DO NOT PRESS THIS BUTTON VERY DELIBERATELY THE SYSTEM DOES NOT POWER DOWN. THIS IS NOT READILY APPARENT SINCE THE CENTER CONSOLE STAYS LIT EVEN WHEN POWERED DOWN. I OPENED THE CHARGE PORT AND PLUGGED THE VEHICLE IN. IF THE VEHICLE IS POWERED DOWN THE CAR WILL GIVE AN AUDIBLE BEEP AND THE CHARGE LIGHT WILL GO FROM ORANGE TO GREEN AFTER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS. IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT POWERED DOWN THE LIGHT STAYS ORANGE AND NO WARNING IS GIVEN TO THE OPERATOR. I LEFT THE VEHICLE, I HAD THE REMOTE WITH ME. THE FOLLOWING MORNING MY WIFE DISCOVERED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE WITH THE GENERATOR RUNNING AT VERY HIGH RPM'S THE TEMPERATURE IN THE GARAGE WAS VERY HOT, THE DOOR HANDLE TO THE GARAGE WAS HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE CAR USED ALMOST ALL OF IT'S GASOLINE SUPPLY, ABOUT 10 GALLONS, THAT EQUATES TO ABOUT 190 POUNDS OF CO2 PRODUCED IN MY HOME. I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE, THE CONCRETE UNDERNEATH THE CAR WAS TOO HOT TO TOUCH AND STILL WARM 10 HOURS LATER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, THEY REPAIRED THE HEAT DAMAGE AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME. I HAVE SINCE TESTED THIS SAME SCENARIO AND THE VEHICLE WILL START ITS GAS POWERED GENERATOR IF LEFT POWERED ON. NO GAS MOTOR IS RUNNING WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED, IT IS OPERATING ON ITS BATTERY SYSTEM. ONCE THE BATTERY IS DEPLETED IT WILL SELF START ITS GENERATOR EVEN IF: 1 THE CAR IS IN PARK 2 THE CHARGE DOOR IS OPEN 3 THE CAR IS PLUGGED IN TO IT'S CHARGER 4 THERE IS NO DRIVER IN THE DRIVERS SEAT 5 THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING 6 THE REMOTE NOT IN THE VEHICLE. FAILURE TO WARN VEHICLE IS ON. *TR
THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL / SOFTWARE ISSUES CAUSED (1) ALL OF THE WINDOWS TO ROLL DOWN IN UNISON (IN FOR REPAIR 3 TIMES TO FIX THIS ONE), (2) CAUSED THE CAR TO NOT RECOGNIZE THAT IT WAS IN "PARK", THUS NOT SHUTTING OFF, AND (3) CAUSED THE CAR TO LOSE POWER WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY OF THE BUTTONS ON THE CONSOLE (I.E. THE "DRIVE" BUTTON OR THE "POWER" BUTTON). THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED LAST FRIDAY (AUGUST 1, 2014) WHEN THE CAR JUST LOST POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON I-85 NORTH AT AROUND 4:00PM. I HAD TO GET OVER FROM 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER AT ALL IN THE CAR AND LUCKILY DID SO WITHOUT INCIDENT. ONSTAR'S DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BRAKING SYSTEM, ENGINE, AND OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR SHOWED THE CAR NEEDED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WHILE STILL WITH ONSTAR THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THE POWER BUTTON LIT UP TOO. I HIT THE POWER BUTTON AND DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE RICK HENDRICK CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN DULUTH. WHEN I WENT TO PICK THE CAR UP LATER SATURDAY MORNING, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAR DO BECAUSE THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REFLASHED VARIOUS ECUS, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY CANNOT "RECREATE" THE PROBLEMS AND CANNOT FIX THEM. SO THEY JUST WIPE THEIR HANDS CLEAN OF THESE ISSUES AND ACT LIKE THEY DON'T EXIST. (THE SERVICE MANAGER ACTUALLY CALLED ME "IGNORANT" ONCE AND LATER APOLOGIZED.) I PRAY IT DOESN'T TAKE PEOPLE DYING IN THESE CARS BEFORE CHEVROLET AND/OR GENERAL MOTORS DOES SOMETHING TO FIX THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE PULLING OUT THE DRIVEWAY AT 10 MPH, THE PARKING BRAKE AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT WATER LEAKED INTO THE BATTERY CHARGING RECEPTACLE CAUSING THE RESISTANCE OF THE INTERLOCK TO DROP OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARKING BRAKE BECOMING ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,500. UPDATED 12/2/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE INCIDENT CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO PARK.
WHEN IN LOW GEAR (HIGHER REGENERATIVE BRAKING), WHEN BRAKING AND GOING OVER SOME BUMPS, THE REGEN BRAKING STOPS CAUSING A FEELING OF A LURCH FORWARD. A 'LOW TRACTION" LIGHT APPEARS. THIS CAUSES A REDUCTION IN BRAKING FORCE OF APPROXIMATELY 35BHP, A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE STYLE PULSATION OF THE REGEN SHOULD BE EMPLOYED, NOT A DISCONTINUATION OF THE REGEN BRAKES. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS REPEATEDLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING/FAILED TO START SINCE JUNE 2013. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SERVICE DUE TO REPAIRS = 42 DAYS IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS. GM CONTINUES TO REPLACE/RECALL PARTS ON THE HYBRID BATTERY AS WELL AS OTHER PARTS CONCERNING SECONDARY PROBLEMS. I AM AFRAID THIS VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN AGAIN WHILE I AM DRIVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT HURTING ME OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD. CLEARLY, IT IS A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP. *TR
LETTER FROM CONSTITUENT REGARDING HIS WIFE 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT, WHO HAVING ISSUES WITH THE HVAC SYSTEM NOT COOLING THE REAR SEATS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS NEAR 100 DEGREES; REQUESTING THAT GM ACCEPT THE RETURN OF THE VEHICLE AND PURCHASE PRICE BE REFUNDED.*SD THE CONSUMER STATED THE WINDOWS WOULD FOG UP WHENEVER HUMIDITY WAS PRESENT, THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, WAS READING THE VEHICLE WAS IN DETROIT, THE RE-GENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM AND ACCELERATION HAD DOWNGRADED AFTER THE LAST SOFTWARE UPDATE.*JB
WHEN A CELL PHONE IS PLACED ON THE CENTER OF THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND ARMS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. NO WEIGHT REQUIRED. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ERRONEOUSLY DEPRESSED THE DRIVE MODE BUTTON AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL POWER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,900.
MY CHEVY VOLT WAS AT A CAR WASH AND THE ATTENDANT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF WHILE STILL IN "D" GEAR. THE CAR IS ABLE TO ROLL AND MOVE WHILE IN THIS GEAR. I WAS SURPRISED SO I TESTED IT FOR MYSELF, AND SURE ENOUGH YOU'RE ABLE TO TURN THE POWER OFF AND EXIT THE VEHICLE WHILE STILL IN 'D'. EVERY CAR I'VE OWNED (AUTOMATIC) FORCES YOU TO SHIFT INTO P OR N BEFORE ALLOWING THE KEY TO REMOVE. THIS IS A GREAT CONCERN FOR ME, SO I CALLED MY VOLT ADVISOR TODAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS ROLLED INTO THEIR GARAGE, AND THE BEHAVIOR WAS BY DESIGN AND NORMAL. *TR
CAR GAS ENGINE STARTED, (ENGINE RUNNING DUE TO TEMP). RAN FOR JUST A FEW SECONDS, THEN SHUT DOWN AND WENT INTO "SERVICE MODE" - KILLING BOTH THE GAS ENGINE AND ELECTRIC MOTOR - WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY BUTTONS ON DASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTIONED SPORADICALLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME STIFF FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
DRIVING IN LOS ANGELES CONSISTS OF LOTS OF UNEVEN ROADS FULL OF POTHOLES. AS I WAS TRYING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE HIT AN UNEVEN ROAD AND A POTHOLE I TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF MY BRAKES AND IT FELT LIKE MY VEHICLE WAS SLIDING. IT WAS A BRIEF 2-3 SECOND FEELING BUT VERY UNSETTLING. *TR
BOTTOM HALF OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS NOT PROPERLY BONDED TO THE BODY. PROBLEM WAS NOTICED DUE TO A WHISTLING NOISE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. PUSHED ON THE GLASS FROM THE INSIDE I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE GLASS WITH LITTLE PRESSURE. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND VOLT I OWNED IN A YEAR THAT EXHIBITED THIS ISSUE. UPON BRAKING AND PASSIVE DECELERATION THE CAR MAKES A LOUD AUDIBLE WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER STATES IT IS A REGENERATIVE BRAKE BEARING FAILURE. THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE BEARING CAGE FAILING CAUSING THE BEARING TO LOSE ITS INTEGRITY. HTTP://GM-VOLT.COM/FORUM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?17877-LOUD-WHINING-DURING-REGEN. *TR
I LEASED A NEW 2013 VOLT ON FRIDAY AND DROVE IT TO WORK AND HOME ON MONDAY. THE BATTERY DISPLAY SHOWED IT WAS AT MINIMUM, ZERO MILES REMAINING. THE VOLT WAS RUNNING WITH THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. AS I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT, "'PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED"', "'ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE"', AND "SERVICE STABILITRAC" DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. AFTER GOING ABOUT 500 FEET, I STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THE VOLT STALLED. I TURNED ON THE FLASHERS AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE POWER BY PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THE POWER BUTTON. THE DISPLAYS LIT UP BUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTINUED TO DISPLAY "'INITIALIZING-WAIT TO SHIFT"'. I TURNED THE VOLT OFF BY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE POWER SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULT. CARS BEHIND ME WERE ATTEMPTING TO PULL AROUND ON THE LEFT SIDE BUT WERE BLOCKED BY CARS TURNING ONTO THE TWO-LANE STREET. I PUSHED THE ON-STAR BUTTON AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE. SOON, A VOLT SPECIALIST CAME ON THE LINE AND SAID SHE SUSPECTED THE SECURITY SYSTEM OR THE 12V BATTERY. SHE HAD ME TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND WALK 200 FEET FROM THE CAR. WHEN I RETURNED AND TRIED TO START THE VOLT, IT STARTED BRIEFLY BUT SHUT DOWN. SHE SAID THE 12V BATTERY MIGHT BE LOW AND THEY WOULD HAVE THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BRING BOOSTER CABLES TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. I HAD MANAGED TO PUSH THE VOLT TO THE CURB AND GOT SOME CABLES TO BOOST IT. THE VOLT INITIALIZED AND THE DISPLAYS LOOKED NORMAL. I DROVE TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND STOPPED FOR THE LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, IT STALLED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO MY HOUSE ON BATTERY POWER BUT IT WOULD NOT GO UP THE SLOPE OF THE DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO CHARGE IT BUT THE CHARGE CYCLE WOULD NOT START. THE NEXT MORNING, IT HAD "'PLUG IN TO CHARGE" LIGHT ON. I STARTED THE CHARGE CYCLE. IT GOES TO THE DEALER TONIGHT. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2013 VOLT 2 WEEKS AGO. WHILE AT THE CVS DRIVE THROUGH TODAY THE CAR STARTED TO BEEP WARNING LIGHTS WHEN OFF, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR STARTED MOVING FORWARD. THE BRAKES COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING, NO PUMPING OR ANYTHING. I MADE IT INTO A PARKING SPACE TO AWAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON THE ERROR MESSAGES WERE GONE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOLID AGAIN. I STARTED TO MOVE THE CAR AND THE ERRORS CAME BACK AND BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. THE EXPERIENCE WAS OVERALL KINDA SCARY. I TOWED IT TO THE DEALER. 2 DAYS LATER I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED. *TR
ANTILOCK FEATURE OF BRAKES WILL NOT ENGAGE ON ICE/SNOW UNLESS BRAKES ARE SLAMMED HARD. AT LEAST THREE TIMES, I HAVE SLID SLOWLY THROUGH AN ATTEMPTED STOP. IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED TWICE WHILE GENTLY BREAKING WHILE TRAVELING DOWNHILL. THE WHEELS LOCK UP AND VEHICLE GOES INTO A SLIDE. IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN, BUT NOW I KNOW TO SLAM THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE ANTILOCK FEATURE WILL THEN OPERATE AND TERMINATE THE SKID AND STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
AT ANY SPEED OVER 57MPH, IF YOU LEAVE THE STEERING WHEEL CENTERED (SUCH AS ON A LONG STRAIGHTAWAY) THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK IN THAT CENTER POSITION. IT TAKES SIGNIFICANT FORCE TO PULL THE CAR OUT OF THAT CENTER LOCKED POSITION. CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT HAS SO FAR BEEN UN-WILLING TO FIX IT IN MY VEHICLE (THEY WILL NOT SEND THE PART TO THE DEALERSHIP). *TR
GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES. 2ND FLAT AT LOW SPEEDS IN TWO MONTHS. CAR TIRE JUST BLOWS OUT IMMEDIATELY GOING FLAT. NO KNOWN OBJECT WAS DRIVEN OVER, FLATTENS OUT INSTANTLY. SECOND TIME IN TWO MONTHS THIS SCENARIO PLAYS OUT. SHOULD THIS HAVE BEEN AT A GREATER SPEED, THE SCENARIO WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORST. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME, IT WAS VERY DARK OUTSIDE ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY GOING 60-60MPH AND WANTED TO SWITCH OVER TO ELECTRIC "HOLD" MODE SO I COULD SAVE THE ELECTRIC BATTERY FOR CITY DRIVING. I GLANCED OVER AND HIT THE "DRIVE MODE" BUTTON THREE TIMES THINKING I WAS GOING TO SEND THE DRIVE MODE DOWN TO "HOLD". INSTEAD WHAT I DID WAS POWERED OFF THE CAR BY HITTING THE POWER BUTTON. (THE TWO BUTTONS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND BOTH REQUIRE MULTIPLE PRESSES TO WORK). SO THERE I WAS, THE CAR WENT BLACK INSIDE AND THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF OUTSIDE WHILE I WAS GOING 65MPG ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY (ONE LANE EACH DIRECTION). THANK GOD THERE WAS NOBODY AROUND OR CLOSE TO ME AND THANKFULLY THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH AMBIENT LIGHT FROM THE MOON TO SEE WHERE I WAS. I HIT THE POWER BUTTON TO TRY TURNING IT BACK ON, NOTHING. LUCKILY THE HAZARD SWITCH REMAINED LIT AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN MY HAZARDS ON. I HAD TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT BACK INTO PARK AND HIT POWER. I REALIZE I HIT THE WRONG BUTTON BUT WHY SHOULD SUCH AN EASY MISTAKE ALMOST CAUSE A FATALITY. IF NOT FOR THE MOON I MIGHT HAVE DROVE OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEY MOVE THE POWER BUTTON TO THE STEERING COLUMN, SIMILAR TO WHERE A KEY WOULD BE LOCATED. FOR GODS SAKE, DON'T PUT A MULTIPLE CLICK BUTTON NEXT TO ANOTHER MULTIPLE CLICK BUTTON THAT HAS SUCH SIGNIFICANCE IN THE OUTCOME OF YOUR LIFE. AND FOR GOD SAKES, DON'T TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS IF THE COMPUTER DETECTS I'M GOING 65 AND KNOWS VIA THE SENSOR THAT IT'S DARK OUTSIDE! THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AT VARIOUS WEB SITES, INCLUDING.... HTTP://GM-VOLT.COM/FORUM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?17249-POWER-BUTTON-TOO-CLOSE-TO-DRIVE-MODE-BUTTON! SOMEBODY IS GOING TO BE HAVE A FATALITY SOON IF THIS IS NOT FIXED. *TR
WHEN I WAS PURCHASING THE CAR, THE SALESMAN WAS DEMONSTRATING THE EMERGENCY TRUNK SAFETY RELEASE. WHEN HE PULLED ON IT, THE RELEASE DEVICE BROKE OFF. HE TOLD ME TO RETURN AFTER A FEW WEEKS TO GET A REPLACEMENT. I JUST SAW THE STORY ABOUT LEXUS HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. IT'S EASY TO GET INTO THE MAIN CABIN FROM THE TRUNK IN THE VOLT, SO IT ISN'T A REAL SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT SHOULD BE TRACKED SINCE I'M SURE CHEVROLET USES SIMILAR DEVICES IN THEIR OTHER CARS. *TR

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Volt vehicles manufactured August 25, 2010, to June 26, 2013. If the driver exits the vehicle without turning off the electrical system, the battery may drain low enough that the gasoline engine will automatically start itself to recharge the electric battery.
