The plug on the charging cord partially melted (see photo). I took the cord to my Ford Dealership (Sayville Ford, Sayville, NY) and was told that the cord was not eligible for replacement but they could sell me a new one for $420.! I subsequently looked up the Ford recall number (18S24) and called Ford and was told that because the cord had previously been brought in to the dealer (2019?) and found to be undamaged, it was not eligible for replacement.
Car will not turn off. There’s a recall for this for 2015 models but it needs to be expanded. This also affects the gas gauge, which has been frozen at the same level near full even though the gas tank is almost empty. I now have to guess if I need gas or not.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-MAX Hybrid. The contact stated that on several occasions, the vehicle failed to start up or unlock due to a defective battery. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer several times to have her battery replaced or her software updated; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had been repaired as of her last visit. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
While driving to work the car started to accerlate on its own. My foot was not on the gas and I had put my foot on the brake pedal to slow the car down. My work is only 3 miles away but for that 3 miles I had to ride the brake because the car wanted to speed up. The highest it got to was over 35 mph until I applied the brake harder. I even took my foot off of the pedals completely to make sure I wasn’t accidentally pressing both pedals. There were not obstructions or floor mats bunched up under the pedal.
While my son was driving his / my 2013 C-Max Energi (on gasoline, the "battery only" range had been depleted), the vehicle lost power and shut down completely, and could only be coasted to the side of the road and not restarted or moved. Fortunately it was not on the highway at the time. The CEL was on, and unfortunately I do not still have the 3 codes which appeared, however the three codes were all for systems in the hybrid propulsion. When I did a google search on the three codes together, for the C-Max, I located a service bulletin from Ford showing that there are two low voltage wires which were improperly routed and insulated, in the back of the car behind the rear seat and under the steel cover over the Energi additional battery. Since the vehicle is a 2103, I had it brought to my home rather than the dealer, and I was able to remove the rear seat, rear carpet, rear seat belts, side panels and battery cover to get to the defective wiring. The "Ford Fix" involved replacing part of the wiring harness and rerouting the new harness, but with about 4 hours of my own labor, I was able to disassemble the rear interior of the vehicle, insulate the 2 defective wires and zip tie to another harness next to them so that they would not rub the steel housing over the Energi additional battery again. After thinking about this, after the fact, I realized that this should absolutely be a recall by Ford. **** Ford knows of the problem, Ford issued a Service Bulletin for the repair, and most importantly, the issue is incredibly unsafe because when the vehicle stops, it will only coast to a stop wherever it is, whether it is on a parking lot of the fast lane on the interstate, and cannot be moved under its own power. ****.
After making a stop at a rest stop traveling from Portland, OR to The Dalles, OR, when we got back into the car and started it, a warning light came on saying “service power steering. See your dealer.” From that point forward, we had no power steering and had to drive home that way. We know after doing research that Ford has a recall (15S18) for this exact problem but because there weren’t as many CMax vehicles sold, they did not include it. We had to drive home almost 60 miles at highway speed to get home.
We have a recall notice relating to the door latch that may come open while driving and the Ford dealer in Longmont, CO says they don't have parts to replace the defective door latch part. We have been waiting for several months now and the Ford dealer doesn't have the parts. We don't feel safe driving the car until this recall can be fixed.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shut-off without warning. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer on three separate occasions for service. Each time the vehicle was towed to the dealer, the vehicle would resume normal operation upon arrival and the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The car was parked and turned off, I came out to the car and found the electrical charging cord had caught on fire at the base of the handle that inserts into the car. The area melted/disintegrated. It was covered in soot. The charger had been plugged into the car for about 1 hour. Fortunately my car or home did not catch on fire. This charger was a replacement from the recall in 2018.
THE RADIO WOULD NOT SHUT OFF OR CHANGE STATIONS AND THE VOLUME CONTROL DIDN'T WORK. THE DASH SCREEN SAID THE RADIO WAS OFF. COULD NOT CHANGE AUDIO INPUTS FROM FM STATION IT WAS TUNED TO. THE RADIO STAYED ON WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF EVEN WHEN THE DOORS WERE OPENED. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN DRAIN THE BATTERY COMPLETELY. THE SUGGESTED FIX WAS TO PULL THE RADIO CIRCUIT FUSE FROM THE MAIN FUSE PANEL UNDER THE DASH, (#79), WHICH I DID. THAT RESET THE AUDIO SYSTEM AND HAS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR NOW AT LEAST. THE LAST TIME I HAD WEIRD AUDIO PROBLEMS WAS WHEN THE 12V BATTERY STARTED TO NEED REPLACING. I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO IT BEING 4.5 YRS OLD BUT NOW AM WONDERING IF IT WAS HASTENED BY BATTERY DRAIN FROM AUDIO SYSTEM WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THIS PROBLEM COULD STRAND DRIVERS AND LEAVE THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE DUE TO DEAD 12V BATTERY (WHICH IS IN A VERY HARD TO REACH COMPARTMENT IN THE BACK HATCH). I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BACK HATCH UNLATCHING SWITCH DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK AT THIS TIME, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED (SAME ISSUES HAPPENED LAST TIME THE 12V BATTERY DIED 4 YRS AGO). COULD THIS BE RELATED TO SOME OTHER ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE LOCKING SYSTEM WIRING PERHAPS? FORD NEEDS TO SOLVE THIS AND ISSUE A RECALL TO REMEDY SINCE THE PROBLEM SOUNDS PRETTY COMMON.

RIVERSIDE FORD (2089 RIVERSIDE DR, MACON, GA 31204, (478) 464-2900) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
GAS LINE LEAK UNDER CAR LEADING FROM TANK TO ENGINE. REQUIRES REMOVAL OF EXHAUST SYSTEM AND TANK TO REPLACE NEW LINE. COULD HAVE CAUSED FIRE W/ FUEL LEAKING ON TO EXHAUST SYSTEM (HAVE HAD TWO PREVIOUS FIRES IN DIFFERENT VEHICLES CAUSED BY FUEL LEAKING ONTO HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM). NO APPARENT PHYSICAL CAUSE FOR LEAK - DOES NOT SEEM TO BE COMPONENT ONE WOULD EXPECT TO LEAK OR NEED REPAIR REGARDLESS OF AGE OR MILEAGE. POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL AND PHYSICAL DAMAGE IF I HAD NOT SMELLED AND NOTICED LEAK. SEEMS TO ME THAT MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER OF APPARENT DEFECTIVE LINE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT REPAIR. LEAK COULD RESULT IN UNANTICIPATED CATASTROPHIC EVENT. VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECENTLY DRIVEN AND PARKED WHEN GAS SMELL WAS NOTCED AND MOVED ENOUGH TO SEE FUEL PUDDLE ON DRIVEWAY.
TURNED THE CAR ON IN A PARKING LOT AND SAW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. HAD TOTALLY LOST POWER STEERING AND ACCELERATION, AND BRAKING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. ROLLED DOWN THE PARKING LOT AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE PARKING BRAKE AND TURN IT OFF. TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR WERE BACK. DROVE THE CAR HOME AND TRIED TURNING IT ON AND OFF A FEW MORE TIMES. POWER STEERING SEEMS TO BE COMPLETELY GONE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON.
POWER STEERING FAILS WITHOUT WARNING MAKING IT MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER THAN MANUAL STEERING. TURNING CAR OFF RESETS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE BUT THAT IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE POWER STEERING WON'T FAIL AGAIN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD C-MAX HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO OPERATIONAL AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RECALIBRATED THE RADIO FUSE HOWEVER, A YEAR LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MECHANIC THEN REMOVED THE RADIO FUSE FROM THE VEHICLE WHICH DISABLED ALL AUDIBLE SOUNDS FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR HER AS IT TOOK AWAY THE BACKUP ALERT SOUNDS THAT WOULD ALERT HER OF IMMINENT OBJECTS WHEN REVERSING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN CALLED HANSEL FORD (3075 CORBY AVE, SANTA ROSA, CA 95407) AND WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VIN. THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
FAILED TRANSMISSION BEARING AS DESCRIBED BY TSB 14B07. DIAGNOSED BY FORD, DOCUMENT ATTACHED CONFIRMING THE FAILURE.
CAR WILL STALL AND BRAKES AND STEERING LOCK UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. IT ALWAYS OCCURS WHEN ON A HILL. VERY DANGEROUS BUT FORD DENIES ANY PROBLEMS. IT HAS OCCURRED SINCE 2014. LAST TIME WAS AS BELOW
I BOUGHT THIS 2013 FORD C-MAX ENERGI USED IN 2017, RIGHT OFF THE BAT AFTER CHECKING OUT VEHICLE, THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HAD TO JUMPSTART THE CAR. NOW, THE CURRENT ISSUE IS THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS TO BE JUMP-STARTED EVERY TIME I TRY TO START THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURING SINCE NOVEMBER 2020. THESE ISSUES HAD OCCURED SPORADICALLY, EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY IN 2018 WITH OTHER BRAND BATTERY, THOUGH NOT AS FREQUENTLY, AND EVERY DAY AS IT DOES NOW. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER SIRIUS SOFTWARE UPDATE GOT STUCK AT 0%, THIS OCCURED A FEW TIMES IN 2018. IN LATE 2018 I BOUGHT A PORTABLE JUMP STARTER BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE BECAME UNTRUSTWORTHY TO START. THOUGH, IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT SERVICE BULLETINS AND NOT JUST RECALLS I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED EARLIER WHEN ISSUES PRESENTED THEMSELVES. SO I FINALLY TOOK IN MY C-MAX IN TO A LOCAL HYBRID REPAIR SHOP, BUT THE TECHNICIANS WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLACE THE SPECIFIC PART, THEY REFERRED ME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE IT. THEY PRINTED OUT MATERIALS THAT STATED THERE HAD BEEN A FEW TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR DISCHARGED BATTERIES. I UNFORTUNATELY MISSED THE REPAIR WINDOW BY 6 MONTHS AND WILL INCUR THE COSTS. MY CAR AS OF 1/13/2021 HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR TWO WEEKS NOW AT DEALERSHIP WAITING FOR PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT WILL COST ME AROUND $1,100. IT SEEMS THERE HAS BEEN MANY BATTERY DISCHARGE BULLETINS FOR THIS MODEL THROUGHOUT THE YEARS FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE FORD DEALERSHIP AT MANAHAWKIN, NJ EVEN STATED THIS VEHICLE IS NOT AS COMMON, SO PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY. I FEEL FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE TROUBLE THIS CAR HAS CAUSED. THESE ISSUES SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY FIRST OWNER OF VEHICLE. THERE ARE SEVERAL REPORTED ISSUES ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED IF RECALL CAN BE MADE ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL.
THE TAIL LIGHTS HAVE TO BE MANUALLY TURNED ON WHEN LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE ON AUTOMATICALLY AT ALL TIMES. WHAT THIS MEANS IS IF I PARK THE CAR DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS AND COME BACK WHEN DARK I OFTEN DRIVE WITHOUT TAILLIGHTS. PEOPLE HAVE YELLED AT ME AND HONKED AT ME TO TURN ON MY TAILLIGHTS WHEN DARK BECUASE THERE ARE NONE! THIS OCCURS BECAUSE I GET IN THE CAR AND START THE ENGINE AND THE LOW BEAM FRONT LIGHTS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY. THE TAIL LIGHTS HAVE TO BE TURNED ON. BUT, AS THE CMAX DOES NOT ACT TO THE STANDARD METHOD OF HEADLIGHTS MUST BE TURNED ON TO SEE IN DARK, THE TAILLIGHTS ARE FORGOTTEN. I AM NOT THE ONLY DRIVER OR MAKE OF CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. WE HAVE TRAINED OURSELVES TO TURN ON TAILLIGHTS IN MY FAMILY BUT STILL OCCURS OCCASIONALLY.
TRANSMISSION BEARING FAILURE, AS SPECIFIED BY RECALL TSB 14B07. LEFT STRANDED.
I HAVE RECEIVED 3 SAFETY RECALL NOTICES REGARDING THE DOOR LATCHES, ONE IN JANUARY 2017 (RECALL NOTICE 16S30), ONE IN AUGUST 2020 (NOTICE 20S30), AND NOW AGAIN IN DECEMBER 2020 (NOTICE 20S30). I HAVE RESPONDED TWICE AND SUPPOSEDLY THE LATCHES WERE FIXED OR REPLACED BY THE DEALER. NOW THAT I HAVE RECEIVED THE THIRD NOTICE OF REQUIRED DEALER INSPECTION, I AM VERY WORRIED THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR HAD NOT BEEN DONE , OR HAD BEEN DONE INCORRECTLY. FORD WILL NOT RESPOND, OTHER THAN STATING I MUST BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING FROM A SAFETY POINT OF VIEW AND IS TIME CONSUMING AND EXPENSIVE WHEN MISSING TIME FROM WORK. THEY PROVIDE A WEBSITE TO CHECK THE LATCH NUMBERS ON EACH DOOR, HOWEVER, AFTER ENTERING THE NUMBERS, THE WEBSITE STATES THAT THE VEHICLE MUST BE INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE SAID TO REFER TO THE WEBSITE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAYS, STOP SAFELY NOW. THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE THAT PUT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. FINALLY GOT IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND MODULE-ENGINE CONTROL. PCM GET TOO HOT AND THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE 10.14.20 AND HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND THERE STILL IS NOT ETA. PART IS ON BACKORDER. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TAG A LEMON AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SOLD. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE.
TOTAL POWER STEERING LOSS. ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE SINCE OWNING THE CAR . ONCE AT 30,000 MILES AND THE SECOND AT 80,000 MILES.FORD DEALER SAID IT NEEDED A ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RACK & PINION.
ELECTRIC STEERING RACK FAILED CAUSING NO POWER STEERING. SYMPTOMS STARTED WITH INTERMITTENT LOCKING. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE FAULTY HIGH ENERGY BATTERY PACK STILL UNDER WARRANTY. REPROGRAMMING DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. IT APPEARS FORD HAD A RECALL FOR HIGHER PRODUCTION MODELS USING THE SAME RACK BUT NOT FOR C-MAX WHICH HAD LOW PRODUCTION. MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD TO LOSE STEERING CAPABILITY.
AS WITH MANY COMPLAINTS LISTED IN FORUMS OUTSIDE OF THE NHTSA MY 2013 C MAX IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME STEERING ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN RESOLVED IN OTHER FORD MODELS UNDER RECALL 15S18. THE ELECTRIC STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $2,000. ISSUES ARE SCRAPING AND MINOR SEIZING STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WHEN TURNING AND PROGRESSIVELY WORSENING. CURRENTLY NOTING NOISE WHEN LEAVING TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. NO ISSUES DRIVING STRAIGHT, AT THIS TIME. MANY STATE THEIR STEERING SEIZES COMPLETELY AND CLEARLY I DO NOT WISH THIS TO HAPPEN, PARTICULARLY WITH KIDS IN THE CAR. I HAVE NO ON BOARD SCREEN ERRORS ILLUMINATING AT THIS POINT AND HAVE VALID FEAR OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS CAR AND OTHERS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE 15S18 RECALL AND WHY OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING OUTSIDE OF NHTSA I DON'T KNOW BUT THIS AFFECTS MANY MORE CARS THAN LISTED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL. I AM REQUESTING THIS VEHICLE BE INCLUDED IN RECALL 15S18 BEFORE DEATH OCCURS. THIS ISSUE BEGAN IN WINTER AND HAS PROGRESSED. 40,000 MILES ON CAR.

THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WHICH FAILED TO RESUME BACK TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER PEACOCK FORD (1875 S ORLANDO AVE, MAITLAND, FL 32751) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CONTACT NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,060.
WHEN I TURNED OFF MY CAR. MY RADIO WOULD NOT SHUT OFF NO MATTER WHAT I DID. THIS IN TURN DRAINED MY BATTERY.
CAR WAS MAKING "WHOO-WHOO" LOW PITCHED NOISE FROM REAR THAT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AS SPEED OF CAR INCREASED. WHEEL BEARING RIGHT REAR WHEEL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 101K MILES AND LEAKING SHOCK FOR SAME WHEEL -
MY DOOR LATCHES BROKE FOR SECOND TIME, IN TWO YEAR. FORD SAY IT IS MY PROBLEM, BECAUSE REPAIRS WERE DONE.
BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY TO DRIVE TO A SPOT ON THE CUL DE SAC. STARTED TO PULL UP TO THE CURB AND COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. SAW A LIGHT THAT SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON. NO WARNING UNTIL POWER STEERING STOPPED COMPLETELY. GOT STOPPED JUST A COUPLE OF FEET FROM THE LIGHT POST. FORD CHARGED $2200.00 TO FIX. CAR HAS JUST OVER 50,000 MILES.

IT DOES RESEMBLE THE SOUND OF A SPEAKER BLOWING. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS OCCUR WHEN THE RADIO OR BLUETOOTH AUDIO IS BEING USED. IN THE BEGINNING AFTER IT POPS THE BLUE TOOTH WILL NOT WORK FOR A FEW MINUTES TO A FEW DAYS. THE SOUNDS ARE TERRIFYING AND DISTRACTING. I BELIEVE IT DOES PLACE ONE IN AN UNSAFE PREDICAMENT. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES ON IT. I GOT IN MY VEHICLE TO LEAVE AND A RED MESSAGE APPEARED SAYING, "SERVICE POWER STEERING SYSTEM". THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. IN FACT, I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN IT AT ALL. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTARTED IT. IT APPEARED TO BE WORKING AGAIN AND I DROVE IT FOR AN HOUR WITHOUT ANY ISSUE. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I LOOKED ON A FEW FORUMS AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE CMAX AND OTHER FORD EPAS SYSTEMS. A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE FORUMS SAY IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM DRIVING. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR FORD. THIS HAPPENED TO HER WHILE TURNING TO THE RIGHT. THIS ISSUE IS NEW. WE HAD THE GEAR BOX CHANGED AT 75,000 MILES AND THE 3 INSTANCES HAVE HAPPENED SINCE THEN. WE ARE BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR HOPING THEY CAN FIX THIS ISSUE.

REPLACE ACM AND PROGRAM, PERFORM COORDINATED HYBRID BATTERY MODULE PROGRAMMING OF PCM, ABS, SOBDM-C, AND DC/DC MODULE, SOFTWARE UPDATES TO ENHANCE DRIVING AND HYBRID BATTERY CHARGE'. MY HUSBAND WAS TOLD BY DEALER THIS IS COMMON WITH THIS CAR. PAID OVER $1500. ORIGINALLY WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE OVER $3000. A ' SECOND' DIAGNOSIS WAS COMPLETED AFTER MY HUSBAND COMPLAINED. I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN MY CAR'S POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING INSTANTLY AND IT BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, THERE WAS ALSO A MESSAGE THAT DISPLAYED SAYING "SERVICE POWER STEERING". THE INNER DOOR PANEL ON BOTH REAR DOORS WARPS AND STICKS TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR FRAME MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE REAR DOORS. THE ONLY OPTION FROM FORD WAS TO REPLACE BOTH DOOR PANELS WHICH COST $400 EACH + LABOR. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE SPECIFICALLY ON THE 2013 MODEL BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.

THIS VEHICLE'S EV CHARGE CORD HAD AN INCIDENT THAT SEEMED TO HEAT UP / BEND THE CORD NEAR THE PLUG BACK IN 2016. I REPORTED TO FORD AT THE TIME, THEY SAID DO NOT USE THE CORD AND SAID THEY HAD A RESOLUTION UPCOMING. TO KEEP ANYONE FROM USING THE CORD, I CUT IT UP AND SENT OFF THE PARTS FOR RECYCLING (COPPER). NO RECALL NOTICES SENT BY FORD, NO ARTICLES ONLINE, OR EVEN COMMON SENSE SUGGESTED I SHOULD KEEP THIS DANGEROUS CORD IN MY HOUSEHOLD TO POSSIBLY BE USED AGAIN (AND THE LIABILITY WOULD BE ON ME FOR BEING SO STUPID). WHAT THE RECALL AND ARTICLES DID SUGGEST WAS THE CORD REPLACEMENT WOULD BE DONE BY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER (THAT VEHICLE WOULD BE CHECKED TO SEE IF IT HAS RECEIVED A NEW CORD). WHEN I WENT IN FOR SERVICE THIS YEAR TO FINALLY GET THIS RECALL PROCESSED, IT WAS DENIED BECAUSE I NO LONGER HAD THE CORD EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SERVICED WITH THIS CORD IN THE CAR (BEFORE IT HAD AN ISSUE, FORD SAID DO NOT USE, AND I DISPOSED OF ONCE I READ THE RECALL NOTIFICATIONS). I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THE NHTSA GET INVOLVED AND MAKE FORD REPLACE MY EV CORD. THEIR RECORDS CLEARLY SHOW MY VEHICLE NEVER GOT A NEW CORD, BUT THEY ARE MAKING SOME CLAIM THAT WITHOUT THE OLD CORD, THEY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IF IT WAS AN EV CORD THAT HAD THE PROBLEM. OUR LOCAL DEALER SAID THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. RESEARCH SHOWS MULTIPLE RECALLS ON 2013 FORD VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT FOR THE CMAX ENERGI (PERHAPS BECAUSE IT'S NOT A VERY POPULAR CAR AND THERE WEREN'T ENOUGH SOLD TO TRIGGER THE RECALL THRESHOLD).

I DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR, ON THE FREEWAY, CAME HOME AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT "SOMETHING MUST BE DRAINING THE BATTERY" BUT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. TODAY, 2 WEEKS LATER, MY CAR IS ONCE AGAIN NOT STARTING. I NOTICED YESTERDAY EVENING, THAT EVERYTIME I GOT IN THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT START. A MESSAGE WOULD COME ON SAYING IT WAS SHUTTING DOWN TO SAVE THE BATTERY. A BLUE LINE WOULD APPEAR AND WHEN IT HAD "LOADED" ALL THE WAY, I COULD START MY CAR. WITHOUT POWER STEERING THIS CAR IS MUCH HARDER TO STEER THAN ANY CAR WITH POWER STEERING FAILURE I HAVE OWNED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT, BUT GINGERLY AND WITH GREAT EFFORT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS BAD, ASSISTED SOMEWHAT BY ROLLING OF THE WHEELS, BUT AT HIGHER SPEED I WOULD ADDITIONALLY HAVE TO OVERCOME THE CENTRIPETAL FORCE OF ROTATION. IT WOULD BE MOST DANGEROUS IF IT HAD FAILED IN A TURN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING MODULE WAS SHORTING OUT AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 99K. FORD SENT A LETTER A FEW MONTHS BEFORE I PURCHASED CAR FROM OWNER. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF PROBLEM FIX IS $8100.00 CAR ISN'T WORTH THAT. CAR WAS MAINTAINED PERFECTLY BY BOTH OWNERS.
THE AUDIO SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING - WILL NOT TURN ON, LINK TO PHONE, ETC. PERFORMED A HARD RESET OF THE AUDIO SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM WORKED. NEXT DAY 12V BATTERY WAS DEAD. JUMPED STARTED THE CAR AND TOOK TO THE SHOP WHERE THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED (ORIGINAL BATTERY). SYSTEM WAS TESTED AND BATTERY WAS REPORTED AS FINE. SINCE IT WAS THE ORIGINAL BATTERY I HAD THEM GO AHEAD AND REPLACE IT AND NO OTHER ISSUES WERE IDENTIFIED. CAR SAT IN GARAGE OVERNIGHT WITH EVERYTHING OFF. NEXT DAY CAR IS DEAD AGAIN.
POWER STEERING COMPUTER MODULE WENT OUT WHILE BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT. LUCKILY NO CARS WERE PARKED NEXT TO ME AND NOBODY WAS WALKING IN THE LOT AS I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. THIS CAR HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT. THIS ALSO HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 100 MILES AFTER HAVING THE TRANSMISSION AND FRONT AXLE REPLACED.
ELECTRIC CHARGER MELTED AND STARTED A SMALL FIRE AT THE HOUSE OUTLET. IT MUST HAVE TRIPPED THE CIRCUIT BREAKER LUCKILY SAVING OUR HOME. FORD REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY WHEN IT HAPPENED TELLING ME IT WAS MY WIRING. NOW THERE IS A RECALL?

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR LOST POWER AND A "STOP SAFETLY NOW" WARNING POPPED UP ON MY SPEEDOMETER. I MANAGED TO GET TO SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED THE CAR. I LOOKING ONLINE FOR A SOLUTION AND I READ THAT I CAN TURN ON AND OFF THE CAR A COUPLE TIMES AND THAT WILL FIX IT. I READ THERE WAS THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND THERE WAS A RECALL TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART. THE FORD C-MAX HAS THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS NEVER ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AND I HAVE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION. FORD SHOULD ISSUE THE RECALL TO THE C-MAX AS FOR THE "STOP SAFETLY NOW" ISSUE ON THEIR ELECTRIC VEHICLES.
OUT OF NOWHERE, THE CAR POPS UP A MESSAGE TO SERVICE POWER STEERING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARS. I DROVE 1 DAY WITH THE STEERING AS NORMAL, AND THEN THE NEXT DAY THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING STOPS AND IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THE CAR DECIDES EACH TIME YOU START IT IF THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM AND THEN GIVES OR DOESNT GIVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AT YOUR START OF TRIP. ITS FRUSTRATING THAT OTHER MODELS OF FORD WITH THIS SAME STEERING SYSTEM HAVE RECALLS, BUT THIS LOWER SALES QUANTITY C-MAX GETS IGNORED.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, OR IN MOTION LOUD GRINDING OR THUDDING NOISE FROM ENGINE. WHRN PLACING VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL SLIGHTLY IMPROVES. WHEN TAKEN IN TO FORD DEALERSHIP, WAS INFORMED IT HOLDS 5 QTS TRANSMISSION FLUID AND ONLY CONTAINED 1 QT. VEHICLE AT 110,000 MILES. TOLD A REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION COSTS $4800 AND LABOR AND TAX BRINGS THE REPLACEMENT TO $6800.

THE CAR PULLS LOAD FROM THE BATTERY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND ALL ELECTRONICS ARE SUPPOSEDLY OFF. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN EXTREMELY COMMON ISSUE AMONG OWNERS OF 2013-2014 FORD C-MAX OWNERS. FORD HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ASSIST AS THEY SAY MY VEHICLE (BASED ON VIN) WAS NOT AN EFFECTED MODEL ON THEIR CSP-15B04 PROGRAM.

I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THAT PART SHOULD HAVE CAME OFF WHEN I WENT TO LIFT THE HATCH OPEN. THEN I GOT THE WARNING LIGHT THAT THE HATCH WAS NOT CLOSED. SO I HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO OPEN UP THE BROKEN LIFT IN ORDER TO GET THE HATCH SHUT. THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE HATCH
THE BATTERY 12V IS UNEXPECTEDLY DISCHARGED VIA THE TCU MODULE (MODEM) GM5Z-14G229-BD. THE DRIVER CAN NOT START THE CAR. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO THE MENTIONED PROBLEM REMAINED. THE DEALER DID NOT COMPLY WITH TSB 16-0157 AND DID NOT REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. FORD DOES NOT SEE THE POSSIBILITY OF REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. MODULE NUMBER GM5Z-14G229-BD.I ALREADY HAD PROBLEMS TWICE. ONCE IN THE PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE AND ONCE AT WORK.

OBD2/CAN THROWS A PSCM - POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE U3000 CM CONTROL MODULE CODE. STEERING WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT WORK UNDER WARRANTY - ASKED AT FORD IF THERE WERE STEERING RECALLS AND TOLD THERE WERE NONE. I DID NOT ESCALATE BECAUSE TURNING OFF THE CAR ONE OR MORE TIMES WOULD RESET. NOW THAT THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY, NO ACTION I CAN TAKE, (SUCH AS RESTARTING THE CAR OR CLEARING THE ERROR CODE) WILL RESET THE STEERING. STEERING EFFORT IS MUCH HIGHER THAN ANY NON-POWER STEERING CAR OR OLD TRUCK I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. THE FAILED PSCM (POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE) DOES NOT APPEAR TO EXIST AS A STAND-ALONE PART. FORD TELLS ME ~$700-$800 IF STEERING COLUMN, OR $2300 IF RACK AND PINION NEED REPLACED. HOURS SPENT SEARCHING FOR THE PART TO DO MY OWN REPAIRS HAS NOT GIVEN ME A SINGLE PART NUMBER THAT RELATES TO THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM. THIS ALL SEEMS TO BE PART OF FORDS TROUBLE PRONE AND HUGELY EXPENSIVE EPAS (ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING) SYSTEM. EPAS HAS HAD RECALLS IN MORE POPULAR FORD MODELS, SUCH AS RECALL 15S18 BEGINNING JULY 20, 2015. I SUSPECT LOW PRODUCTION QUANTITY CARS SUCH AS THE HYBRID C-MAX LIKELY HAVE A SIMILAR FAILURE RATE, BUT IT ISN'T NOTICEABLE DUE TO THE MUCH LOWER QUANTITY PRODUCED. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SAME FLAWED SYSTEM ON MULTIPLE MODELS DESERVES THE SAME FIX. WHILE I NEVER LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING, IT WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC FOR SMALL/WEAK DRIVERS OR THOSE WHA HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I'VE DRIVEN BOTH CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND WITH FAILED POWER STEERING, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD TO USE THE LEVEL OF EFFORT IT TAKES TO STEER THE EPAS SYSTEM WHENE IT SHUTS DOWN.

IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS, THE SHIFTER INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, BUT THE MOTOR DID NOT INDICATE THAT IT WAS READY TO DRIVE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE LATER. THE CONTACT PLACED THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE AND ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE, BUT A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVE GEAR AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BEYOND 35 MPH. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO BOB MOORE FORD (8948 S I-35 SERVICE RD, OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA 73159) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INNER CELL OF THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.
WHEN WE ARRIVED HOME FROM A SHORT DRIVE, THE DRIVER SIDE, REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD ONLY OPEN 4 OR 5 INCHES. AFTER PASSENGER EXITED (ANOTHER DOOR) WE TRIED AGAIN. SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN IT, THIS TIME IT OPENED ONLY AN INCH. IT APPEARS THE INSIDE PANEL IS LOOSE AND IS PREVENTING HINGE FROM OPERATING.
CAR ELECTRONICS WILL NOT SHUT OFF. RADIO REMAINS ON CONTINUOUSLY, EVEN WITH KEYS REMOVED AND DOORS LOCKED. NO CHIMES TO INDICATE IF CAR IS ON/OFF. AT OTHER TIMES, CAR NAVIGATION AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS WILL FAIL. FAILURES AND NON-RESPONSE CAN HAPPEN WHILE IN MOTION. RADIO NOT TURNING OFF AFTER ENGINE OFF AND PARKED.

A TOWING SERVICE CAME, JUMP STARTED MY CAR, AND I DROVE IT TO FORD. I HAD TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT AFTERNOON, THE FORD SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM THE FOLLOWING MORNING. SERVICE TESTED EVERYTHING. THERE WERE NO FAULTY CODES, NO RECORD OF A PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN A DISCOUNT OFF THE FULL PRICE, ALTHOUGH NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE FORD C-MAX HYBRID HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAS NO ANSWERS.
THE RADIO WILL NOT LET ME CHANGE STATION, VOLUME, SYNC MY PHONE FOR HANDSFREE. WHEN I OPEN THE DOOR THE RADIO NORMAL SHUTS OFF. HOWEVER IT IS JUST STAYING ON
TWO MONTHS AGO THE SYNC WOULD NOT RESPOND. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS, CHANGE THE VOLUME NOR TURN OFF THE RADIO. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. TWO DAYS LATER I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK, PARKED IT AND WENT INSIDE. AFTER MY SHIFT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE FOB. I REMOVED THE MANUAL KEY AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DID A 120 POINT INSPECTION. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND DID A MASTER RESET. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO RESOLVE IT WITH MY DEALERSHIP. I INFORMED FORD THAT I HAD READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OWNERS OF FORD CMAX AND FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLES SIMPLY DIE AND THE DEALERSHIPS CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND AGAIN REFERRED ME TO MY DEALERSHIP. THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT. I HAD JUST RETURNED FROM THE STORE AND NEEDED TO RUN MORE ERRANDS TWO HOURS LATER. THE VOLUME ON MY RADIO WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. I COULD NOT CHANGE THE VOLUME NOR TURN THE RADIO OFF. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AGAIN, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND SIMPLY DID A MASTER RESET. THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED AND I'M AFRAID THIS COULD HAPPEN EVERY MONTH.

GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION, TOOK CAR TO TWO DEALERSHIPS, BOTH SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING - MARCH OF 2018. CAR HAS 135,000 MILES ON IT. FORD HAD ISSUED TSB 15-0174, WHICH DEALT WITH TRANSMISSIONS FAILING. AFFECTED CARS ARE C-MAX HYBRIDS BUILT BETWEEN AUG 8, 2012 AND JUN 17, 2014. LETTERS WERE TO BE SENT OUT THE WEEK OF NOV 16, 2015. WE PURCHASED THE CAR MID APRIL OF 2015 AND ARE COMPLAINING BECAUSE FORD DID NOT SEND US A LETTER ALTHOUGH THEY KNEW WE HAD BOUGHT THIS CAR?
CAR WON'T START NOR CAN THE DOORS BE OPENED WITH THE FOB OR KEYS AFTER SITTING IN GARAGE OVERNIGHT. CAR IS COMPLETELY DEAD. HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE DEC 2017, TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. FIRST TIME BATTERY WAS REPLACED. CAR DIED 4 DAYS LATER. NO WARNING THAT THE CAR IS DYING. FORD HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT AND PLAN TO RETURN DEAD CAR TO ME SINCE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. CAN'T DRIVE FOR FEAR OF CAR SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING CREATING DANGEROUS SITUATION, OR STRANDED IN CRIME AREA, OR WITH NO CELL SERVICE. CAR WAS IN MY HOME'S GARAGE STATIONARY EVERY TIME IT WOULDN'T START IN THE MORNING. NOTHING LEFT ON INSIDE CAR. MILEAGE AROUND 32,000.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE PARKING THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED A 7 INCH STEP AND CRASHED INTO THE WALL. WHEN PUT IN REVERSE, THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARD WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED HARD. IT TOOK ABOUT 20 FEET TO STOP THE CAR.
REAR HATCHBACK LATCH FAILS TO RELEASE. DRIVER CAN HEAR THE LATCH MOTOR ACTIVATING WHILE DRIVING AND DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY OPENED WHILE DRIVING WHICH COULD RESULT IN EJECTING CARGO WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. AFTER PULLING OVER AND CLOSING THE HATCHBACK, IT FAILS TO RE-OPEN, STUCK AGAIN, AND THE PROCESS STARTS ALL OVER. DEALERSHIP SAYS MOTOR AND LATCH SYSTEM FOR THE HATCH-BACK IS FAULTY AND NEEDS REPLACING, AND ISSUED ME A RENTAL CAR FOR 3-5 DAYS. THEY SAID IT WASN'T SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE IT. LUCKILY I HAPPEN TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I'M REPORTING IT. I'VE HAD LATCH PROBLEMS WITH THE SIDE DOORS IN THE PAST, HOWEVER THOSE WERE FIXED AFTER A RECALL. SIDE DOORS HAVE SOME LATCHING ISSUES THAT CONTINUE BUT HAVE NOT OPENED UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING LIKE THE HATCHBACK.
I HAVE A FORD C-MAX 2013, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GRINDING AT JUST OVER 100K MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS WAS KNOWN ISSUE, BUT BEING OVER 100K MILES FORD WOULD NOT HELP. I OPENED A CASE WITH FORD AFTER FINDING OUT THAT UP TO 75% OF ALL C-CMAX HAVE THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE. (SEE PDF EVIDENCE). ALSO FOUND THE FOLLOWING: HTTPS://WWW.CARS.COM/ARTICLES/2013-2014-FORD-FUSION-HYBRID-C-MAX-HYBRID-TRANSMISSION-ISSUE-1420684957170/ WHILE I UNDERSTAND BEING OUT OF WARRANTY, ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL OR NOTICE TO OWNERS. TRANSMISSION ON C-MAX ARE NOT CHEAP. I WOULD EVEN BE WILLING TO MEET FORD HALF WAY ON A REPAIR. THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE HAS MADE ME SERIOUSLY QUESTION FORDS COMMITMENT TO ITS CUSTOMERS AND THE QUALITY OF ITS PRODUCT.
THE 12-VOLT BATTERY WILL DIE WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON. NO LIGHTS LEFT ON, OR ANYTHING THAT MAY DRAIN THE BATTERY. THIS LEAVES YOU WITHOUT ACCESS TO YOUR CAR AS THERE ARE NO KEYS. PARKED THE CAR AT NIGHT, AND WOKE UP THE NEXT DAY TO A COMPLETELY DEAD CAR. AFTER GETTING A JUMP START, THE CAR WILL BE FINE FOR A MONTH OR TWO; BUT THEN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE YEAR I HAVE OWNED THE CAR.
ON 12/20/2017 AT ABOUT 8:30 PM ON ROUTE 139 (HIGHWAY) EAST BOUND, AFTER STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE PROPULSION SHUT OFF. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO PLACE GEAR IN PARK, AND RESTART VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON 12TH STREET IN JERSEY CITY, NJ BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO PARK LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. IN THE MORNING I WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRING IT TO WAYNE FORD AT 444 ROUTE 46, WAYNE , NJ 07470, WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION. ON ROUTE 1(HIGHWAY) IN JERSEY CITY, NJ. AGAIN I HAD TO PLACE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED MULTIPLY TIMES BEFORE I FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE ONLY STOPPED AGAIN ON LOCAL ROADS ANS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OF ROUTE 46 OR ROUTE 3 WHICH I HAD TO USE TO GET TO THIS LOCATION.. I EXPLAINED TO THE REPAIR PERSON MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION AS I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, ONCE WHILE TURNING, ALWAYS WHEN IN MOTION. ALSO ASKED THAT ALL RECALL ITEMS OF THIS VEHICLE BE CORRECTED AT THIS TIME TOO. AS OF THIS DATE 1/01/2018 WAYNE FORD HAS YET TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR WHEN MY VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED.

WHEN I STARTED MY CAR TO RETURN HOME FROM WORK, THE "STEERING WARNING" LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND WHEN I TRIED TO BACK OUT, I REALIZED THAT MY WHEEL WAS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT WITH THE SAME RESPONSE. I CALLED FOR A TOW TO A DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY HAD THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND INTO THE NEXT AFTERNOON, WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $1,400 TO REPLACE THE STEERING PUMP AND TO BALANCE AND REALIGN MY TIRES. THE REPAIR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AS IT IS 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS JUST OVER 52,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO INDICATION MY STEERING WAS ABOUT TO GO. MY CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED AND MADE NO NOISES OR HAD ANY TROUBLES PRIOR TO THIS INSTANT FAILURE.
UNABLE TO DRIVE CARE DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING (HAPPENED WHEN PARKED FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES -- WENT IN BUILDING TO PICK UP SON FROM DAYCARE, CAME OUT AND NO POWER STEERING WHEN I RESTARTED CAR). THIS HAS APPARENTLY BEEN A PROBLEM ON OTHER FORD MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR AND THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THOSE, BUT NOT FOR THE C-MAX. UNSURE IF THIS COULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, BUT IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF IT DID. CAR HAS 52000 MILES AND HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED.
CMAX MELTING PLUG THE 120 VOLT, 12 AMP CHARGE CORD THAT CAME WITH MY CAR IS OVERHEATING CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. THE END OF THE CORD THAT PLUGS INTO THE WALL HAS MELTED AND LEFT BURN MARKS ON THREE DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL OUTLETS IN MY GARAGE WHERE I PLUG THE CAR IN TO CHARGE. I PUT IN A DEDICATED 20 AMP LINE AND PLUG DUE TO THIS PROBLEM IN AUGUST. THE PLUG STILL BURNED AND MELTED. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE OUTLET AND PLUG. I MADE FORD AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ADVISED VIA. FORD EV HELP LINE CASE # CAS-13607255. I AM TAKING THE CAR AND CHARGER INTO FORD ON MONDAY COMING 11/27/17. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CORD HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2013. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY PLUG. EACH TIME, DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THEY'VE FIXED IT, BUT, IT HAPPENS AGAIN. VERY IRRITATING, TO NEVER KNOW FOR SURE, IF I'LL HAVE A WORKING VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED HAVING THE WINDOWS ROLL DOWN, ALL AT ONCE, CAR WAS OFF, I'D PRESSED FOB TO LOCK DOORS. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS! FORD NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG! THE STEERING POWER BOX APPARENTLY FAILED ON SEPT. 18 WHEN I WAS GOING TO WORK. THE CHECK POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHEN I TRIED TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING PLACE AND THEN WHEN I TRIED TO EASE BACK INTO IT, I HAD IT TOWED TO MCCAFFERTY FORD IN LANGHORNE, PA WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE STEERING POWER BOX FAILURE. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND THE 2014 CMAX HYBRIDS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. ALSO - THE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THAT A LOT OF 2013 MODEL OWNERS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING CONTROL BOX - SAME AS ME - BUT THE FORD DEALERS ARE MAKING THEM PAY ANYWHERE FROM $1,500 TO $1,900 FOR THE REPAIR (I AM BEING CHARGED @ $1,800.) CLEARLY IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT FORD SHOULD REMEDY - AND NOT EXPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS TO PAY FOR IT. (I HAVE OWNED FORD CARS FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS AND NEVER ONCE HAVE HAD THIS KIND OF PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THEM.)

I HAVE HAD A CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH MY CAR BATTERY GOING DEAD. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY EVERY 4 OR 5 MONTHS. I USE MY CAR EVERY DAY, THE BATTERY DRAINS OVERNIGHT. THE BATTERY TESTS FINE AT THE FORD DEALER. THIS LAST TIME THE BATTERY DIED, WE TRICKLE CHARGED IT AND AFTER GAINING BACK POWER NOTICED WE LOST ALL POWER FUNCTIONS TO ALL DOORS ON OUR VEHICLE. AFTER A WEEK OF DIAGNOSIS AT THE FORD DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT TWO OF THE DOOR MODULES WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. FORD ORDERED NEW MODULES AND ONE CAME TO THEM DEFECTIVE. I HAVE TO GO IN YET AGAIN NEXT WEEK TO HAVE THEM CHANGE OUT THAT MODULE FOR LACK OF THE AUTO UP FEATURE. I THINK FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THESE MODULES, I THINK THEY ARE CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN OVERNIGHT, AND LEADING TO EXPENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC/REPAIRS BILLS AT THE VEHICLE OWNERS EXPENSE. THIS ISSUE IS NOT CAUSED BY A VEHICLE OWNER, THIS IS FAULTY PARTS FROM FORD. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE NEW OEM PARTS WILL LAST LONG, THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. MY 2013 FORD CMAX ONLY HAS 48K MILES AND IS TAKEN CARE OF AND MAINTAINED REGULARLY.

MY 2013 FORD C-MAX ENERGI PRODUCES A "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING MESSAGE AND QUICKLY LOSES ALL POWER. IT HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 DAYS. WHEN IT HAPPENS, YOU HAVE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE ENGINE, OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND WAIT A FEW MORE MINUTES BEFORE IT CAN BE STARTED AGAIN. A WARNING LIGHT IS LEFT ON FOR ~25 MILES. IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ON ALL ELECTRIC. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS FAILURE ONCE THE MAIN BATTERY IS DISCHARGED AND THE ENGINE IS RUNNING ON GAS.

TODAY, I WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. I CHECKED MY PHONE, ANSWERED A TEXT, AND THEN STARTED THE CAR. AS SOON AS I STARTED THE CAR, THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARD - EVEN WHEN I HAD MY FOOT COMPLETELY PRESSED VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL (I PANICKED BECAUSE HAVING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE DID NOT PREVENT ME FROM ROLLING BACKWARD). THE CAR DID NOT STOP ROLLING BACKWARD UNTIL I HIT THE CEMENT BARRIER ON THE CURB, BECAUSE IT PREVENTED ME FROM CONTINUING TO ROLL BACKWARD. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THEN I DROVE OFF. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT IT HAS HAPPENED. THE STREET I WAS ON WAS SLIGHTLY AT AN INCLINE - IT WAS NOT A STEEP HILL BUT THERE WAS A SLIGHT INCLINE.

THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A SPRAINED LEFT ANKLE AND WRIST, AND BURNS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BODY. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
STALLS WHILE IN MOTION ON .HAD STOPPED FOR A LIGHT WHEN I WENT FOWARD THE CAR STALLED,THEN STALLED 2 MORE TIMES IN LESS THAN 1/8 TH MILE .THEN THE CAR SAT FOR 1/2 HR THEN WAS ALL RIGHT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME.
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES WITH APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET OF DISTANCE, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE CAUSING THE CAR TO SLIDE, AND REAR END THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, UPON IMPACT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
CAR STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN MOTION ON BUSY STREET DUE TO SPONTANEOUS TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THIS FAILURE IS THE SUBJECT OF AT LEAST THREE FORD TSB'S. I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATIONS FROM FORD REGARDING THESE PROBLEMS.

TURNING THE WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS YOU CAN CLEARLY HEAR GRINDING / SLIPPING IN THE STEERING COMPONENTS. FEEDBACK TO THE WHEELS HAS BEEN INCREASINGLY MORE JERKY. TODAY, POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM MANY ARE HAVING WITH MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE AND OTHERS. FORD SHOULD COVER THIS ISSUE AS A RECALL BECAUSE LOSING STEERING CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO OWNERS OF THE 2014 C-MAX AS WELL AS OTHERS ON THE ROAD.

A GRINDING, WHINING NOISE DEVELOPED AT ABOUT 66,000 MILES. BECAUSE IT WAS A ROAD NOISE AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD SOON NEED NEW TIRES, I REPLACED THE TIRES. THE NOISE CONTINUED AND I WENT BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE CAR AND INFORMED ME THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARING AND NO MORE NOISE. I WAS TOLD IF I CONTINUED DRIVING WITH THAT PART I WOULD HAVE SHORTLY LOST MY WHEEL AND THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF CONTROL.
ABS FAILED CAUSING CAR TO SLIDE ON SLICK SURFACE, AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN FRONT END COLLISION.

DRIVING ON I-40, ABOUT 150 MILES FROM MY DESTINATION ON JULY 31, 2016, THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON" LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR. I FINISHED THE DRIVE HOME WITH NO PROBLEM AND TURNED THE CAR OFF TO UNLOAD IT. WHEN I RE-STARTED IT, THE CAR REPORTED A COMPLETE STEERING FAILURE, AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SIMPLY QUIT. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THIS HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE FORD STEERING SYSTEM IN THE C-MAX AND OTHER MODELS. I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE ISSUE EXAMINED & REPAIRED AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. I DROVE THE CAR THERE, WITH EXTENSIVE EFFORT REQUIRED TO TURN THE WHEEL. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING UNIT HAD FAILED, WITH APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. MY COST WAS APPROXIMATELY $1880, AND I DO HAVE THE RECEIPT. FORD REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND I WAS FORCED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT. I BELIEVE THIS KNOWN DEFECT CREATES AN UNSAFE SITUATION. 1. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THIS DEFECT AS IT IS FAR MORE COMMON THAT ACCEPTABLE, AND 2. THEY SHOULD CHANGE WHAT HAPPENS TO A CAR WHEN THE PROBLEM IS DETECTED. HAD I NOT HAD A LOT OF STRENGTH, I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT TRYING TO GET IT IN FOR REPAIR. THE SYSTEM WORKED JUST FINE FOR 150 MILES, SO THERE WAS NO REAL ISSUE STOPPING THE STEERING ASSIST...UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN THE CAR DISABLED ITS STEERING. FORD SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO LET THE CAR CONTINUE TO DRIVE AFTER THE CAR SELF-DISABLES ITS POWER STEERING. IT WAS ONLY SELF-DISABLED AFTER I SHUT IT OFF, SO IT WAS ACTUALLY STILL SAFELY DRIVEABLE, BUT THE CAR'S COMPUTER APPARENTLY DECIDED TO CREATE THE DANGEROUS SITUATION BY SHUTTING OFF THE EPAS SYSTEM COMPLETELY, YET LEAVE THE CAR DRIVABLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS FAILURE AND COMPEL FORD TO ADDRESS THE STEERING UNIT FAILURE ISSUE AND REIMBURSE THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.

I WAS TRAVELLING WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK WHEN I BASICALLY LOST ALL CONTROL OVER THE CAR. IT WAS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. A GENTLEMAN HAD TO STOP AND HELP ME GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR IS THREE YEARS OLD AND WE WERE TOLD THE POWER STEERING IS SHOT. CLERK SAID IT MAYBE THE ALTERNATOR. THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN ALTERNATOR. FORD PERSONNEL ARE NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ON THIS CAR. DOES NOT GIVE ME ANY CONFIDENCE THAT FORD WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT'S FRUSTRATING TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND NOT KNOW IF IT WILL START. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
TWICE IN PAST TWO YEARS THE RADIO HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE ENGINE RUNNING, BUT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THUS, BATTERY WAS DRAINED OVERNIGHT WHEN CAR WAS PARKED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED (LATE 2014 OR EARLY 2015), THE DEALER RESET THE SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THURSDAY 4/7/16 WHEN AGAIN THE RADIO SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE CAR WAS RUNNING, AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF, AGAIN DRAINING BATTERY BY 4/10/16. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A DEFECT, WHICH A SIMPLE RESET DOES NOT FIX.
I HAVE HAD MY 2013 FORD CMAX (HYBRID) IN A FORD AUTHORIZED SHOP AT LEAST SIX TIMES ( TWICE OVERNIGHT) FOR THE SAME ISSUE: THE INTELLIGENT ACCESS FEATURE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR INTERMITTENTLY MALFUNCTIONS. FREQUENTLY IT WILL EITHER NOT LOCK OR NOT UNLOCK IN THE MANNER DESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. AFTER TWO OR THREE VISITS TO THE SHOP, TWO REMEDIES WERE TRIED. I SHOULD MENTION TO YOU THAT THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT LITHIA FORD IN FRESNO TOLD ME ON MY SECOND VISIT THAT A SERVICE ADVISORY HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE FIRST REMEDY THEY TRIED WAS TO CLEAN THE SENSOR AND REPLACE A COUPLE SCREWS . THE SECOND WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HANDLE. NEITHER ONE WORKED. BY THE WAY, THE CAR IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. I HAVE REPEATEDLY BEEN TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, '' IS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM.' THEREFORE, THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR SEVERAL REASONS. AMONG THEM, WHEN PARALLEL PARKED ON A BUSY STREET, A DELAY IN OPENING THE DOOR EXPOSES ME TO BEING HIT WHILE STANDING IN THE STREET. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN PARKED IN A DARK PARKING STRUCTURE IN A BAD PART OF TOWN I AM EXPOSED TO POTENTIAL ATTACK WHILE TRYING TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOOR. FINALLY IN A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR, I HAVE GOTTEN SOAKED BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK.

THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES SINCE NEW IN 2013 - ONCE AT 11,900 MILES ON 12/30/13; ONCE AT 33,069 MILES ON 7/.10/15; AND NOW YESTERDAY AT 38,XXX MILES ON 3/17/2016. THERE HAS BEEN NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR, AND THE BATTERY HAS CHECKED OUT FINE DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OCCURRING BEFORE THE INCIDENTS.

THEY HAVE TO ORDER PART, I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 2HRS FOR THE REPAIR AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $200 AS ITS NOT PART OF POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I THINK THESE THINGS ARE ALL RELATED AND HAVE TOLD THE SERVICE DEPT I PREDICT THIS WOULD BE THE NEXT RECALL. THEY ARE BRUSHING IT OFF, BUT IF ANYONE WAS IN FRONT OF MY CAR WHEN IT "BUCKED" FORWARD, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. I REPORTED THE RECALL FOR DEAD BATTERY ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES, WAS DISMISSED BY THE SERVICE DEPT AND LATER THAT BECAME A RECALL. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS COMPLAINT. THANK YOU. AS OF CURRENTLY THIS IS GOING TO BE THE 10TH TIME THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ( FACTORY RECALLS AND REPAIRS ). THIS LAST TIME WAS BECAUSE OF A FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT TOOK OVER 3 WEEKS TO REPAIR.
AT FIRST THE CMAC WOULD NOT START FOLLOWED BY ALL THE ELECTRICITY IN THE GOES DEAD (HORNY LIGHTS RADIO NOW HAVE EVERYTHING). I WAS THEN DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE CAR SLOWED DOWN BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE GAS TO ABOUT 5 MPH AND I COULD NOT GO ABOVE THAT. THE SLOWDOWN WAS IMMEDIATE LIKE THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED IN THE LOWER GEAR. THE DEALER SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT BUT THEY SAW THE 12VOLT BATTERY ADD A BAD CELL AND SO THEY BELIEVING THAT THAT'S WHAT COULD'VE CAUSED ALL THE PROBLEMS.I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID TO LET THE DEALER HANDLE IT. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE CAR COMING TO ALMOST A FULL STOP IN THE MITTS OF HIGH-SPEED ESPECIALLY WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OR INDICATIONS.

2013 FORD C-MAX HYBRID TRANSMISSION, LOUD NOISE COMING FROM TRANSMISSION AREA WHEN CAR IS IN GEAR AND MOVING. NO SOUND IN PARK AND NEUTRAL. SOUND IS INTERMITTENT.
I PARKED THE CAR IN PUBLIC PARKING TO USE PUBLIC TRANSIT. WHEN I RETURNED APPROXIMATELY 10 HOURS LATER THE BATTER WAS DEAD. NOTHING WAS PLUGGED IN AND DRAWING ANY ELECTRICITY. BATTERY WAS SIMPLY DEAD. I WAS ABLE TO GET A JUMP START AND GET THE VEHICLE HOME, I REMOVED THE BATTERY, CLEANED THE TERMINALS, CHARGED THE BATTERY OVER NIGHT AND REINSTALLED IT IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER INVESTIGATING ONLINE I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE C-MAX AND WANT THIS DOCUMENTED. I BELIEVE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY PUT A BATTERY IN THIS CAR THAT IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO DO THE JOB IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO.

WE COMPLAINED OF SCRATCHING SOUNDS IN THE REAR BRAKES ON 5/14/2014 AND 13K MILES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PADS AND ROTORS WERE WORN TO A MINIMUM WITH NO EVIDENCE OF STICKING CALIPERS. ROTORS WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. WE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME SCRATCHING SOUNDS AT 18K MILES ON 11/17/2014 AND WERE TOLD THEY CHECKED OK. WE COMPLAINED AGAIN ON 8/12/2015 OF THE SAME ISSUE AND WERE TOLD THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND PITTED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. ON 8/26/2015 AT 25K MILES WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND WERE TOLD THE SAME THING AND THAT FORD WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE PROBLEM. PADS WERE NOT WORN AT THIS TIME. ON 9/10/2015 WE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (CASE 7858931-N9W5D9) AND WERE TOLD THAT FORD WOULD NOT HONOR A WARRANTY. WE CONTACTED TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. BOTH STATED THAT ROTORS WEARING OUT IN 13K MILES AND A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR WAS ABNORMAL. BOTH AGREED THAT REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY FOR SAFE OPERATION. ISSUE: EARLY AND IMPROPER RUSTING OF BRAKE ROTORS (1 WINTER, 13K MILES) THAT COMPROMISE SAFE OPERATION.

IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, JULY 23, 2015. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THEY NOW HAVE A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE THAT WILL FIX IT, BUT THERE IS NO RECORD ONLINE OF A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED IN APRIL 2015.

THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE COMPUTER BUT DIDN'T FIND THE CAUSE. THE SAME THING OCCURRED ON 16 NOV 14. THIS TIME THE COMPUTER SHOWED THAT THE BATTERY WAS BAD, AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT UNDER THE WARRANTY. I AM A VERY LOW MILEAGE DRIVER. I WAS VERY CAREFUL TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CAR WAS LOCKED AND ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES WERE SHUT OFF AFTER THE JULY INCIDENT.
CAR WOULD NOT START. ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS NOT WORKING. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 9 MONTH THIS HAS OCCURRED. BOTH TIMES THE CAR HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH IN GASOLINE MODE SO THE BATTERY BECOMES DRAINED AND NEEDS TO BE RECHARGED. DEALER CLAIMS THERE IS NO OTHER REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE. ISN'T THE PURPOSE OF BUYING A HYBRID VEHICLE TO SAVE FUEL AND DRIVE IN HYBRID MODE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE? ON 4-1-2015, AT APPROXIMATELY 1PM, WHILE TRAVELING WEST ON HIGHWAY 702 IN PIERCE COUNTY WASHINGTON IN MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN I SWITCHED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FROM INTERMITTENT TO THE LOW CONTINUOUS SPEED. ANTICIPATING THE HEAVY WASH FROM AN ONCOMING FULLY LOADED LOGGING TRUCK I SWITCHED THE WIPERS TO THE HIGH SPEED AND THE WIPERS FROZE IN PLACE JUST AS I REACHED THE LOGGING TRUCK. FORTUNATELY THEY RESTARTED WHEN I SWITCHED THEM BACK TO THE LOW CONTINUOUS SPEED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER, KORUM FORD IN PUYALLUP, WA AND ARRANGED FOR A SERVICE CALL THE NEXT DAY 4-2-2015. THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THAT THE WIPERS FAILED BECAUSE OF DAMAGE TO THE WIRING THAT GOES TO THE MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE WIPER'S HIGH SPEED. THEY ALSO ADVISED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DONE BY MICE AND SHOWED ME THE CHEWED MARKS ON THE PLASTIC COVER AND SOME MOUSE DROPPINGS. THEY ALSO SHOWED ME THE SHREDDED INSULATION LINING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ENGINE HOOD. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT FORD USES SOY IN THE INSULATION AND THAT ATTRACTS THE MICE. WHEN I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON 4-11-2015 THE SERVICE ADVISOR SHOWED ME WHERE TO PUT CAYENNE PEPPER TO DISCOURAGE THE MICE FROM EATING THE WIRE INSULATION. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE AND REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COST OF THE DAMAGE. TECHNICIANS DID WHATEVER TESTING ON IT AND CAME BACK TO ME AND SAID THAT SINCE I HAD DRIVEN IT SUCH A DISTANCE, IT "HAD RESET ALL COMPUTER FUNCTIONS AND THEY COULDN'T TELL WHAT WAS WRONG". THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT IF IT SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN, TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT SO THAT THEY COULD HOOK UP COMPUTER TO IT TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG. AUGUST OF 2014, WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND CAR WAS DEAD AGAIN. THIS TIME, CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. WITH THE WAY THIS VEHICLE IS WHEN IT IS "DEAD", I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO GET IT OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY FOR TOW TRUCK, SO HE HAD TO GIVE IT A QUICK JUMP TO GET ENOUGH POWER FOR ME TO GET IT INTO STREET. CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND TRIED TO DRIVE TO DEALER LOCATED 15-20 MINUTES AWAY. STOPPED AT RED LIGHT AND PROCEEDED THROUGH LIGHT WHEN GREEN. WITH THE CAR NOW IN THE OFF POSITION YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, NO EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND NO BRAKE LIGHTS DUE TO BATTERY FAILURE. ONE DAY LATER THEY FOUND THAT THE CHARGING DC/DC SYSTEM MODULE HAD FAILED WHICH IS WHY THE BATTERY FAILED. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AT OR ABOUT 12.0 V INSTEAD OF 12.8 VOLTS WHICH WOULD HAVE INDICATED A FAILED CHARGING SYSTEM (LIKE THE OLD ALTERNATOR LIGHT BUT THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE AN ALTERNATOR). NO BATTERY/CHARGING SYSTEM MONITORING SYSTEM GAUGE PRESENT IN STANDARD INSTRUMENTATION PANEL. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN ERROR IN THE COMPUTER MONITORING SYSTEM TO ALARM AT 12.0 V (DEAD BATTERY VOLTAGE) VERSE 12.8 VOLTS SHOWING A FAILED CHARGING SYSTEM COMPONENT. THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS MISALIGNED, BENT UPWARD AND OUT, NOT MEETING THE DOOR PANEL/TOP OF DASH PROPERLY AS DOES THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS MISALIGNMENT CREATES A GAP BETWEEN THE DASH AND DOOR PANEL, NORMALLY LESS THAN A PENCIL WIDTH, OF NEARLY A HANDS WIDTH. ALSO, THE GAP BETWEEN TOP OF THE DASH, NORMALLY FLUSH WITH THE OTHER DASH MOLDINGS, IS POPPED UP 1/2 INCH OR MORE. THIS INCONSISTENT ALIGNMENT IS VERIFIED BY VIEWING OTHER C-MAX VEHICLES. MY CONCERN BESIDES THE QUALITY OF FITMENT IS THE AIRBAG ALIGNMENT DURING A CRASH. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AFTER SEEING ADS FOR IT ON TV. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN DEC 2013 AND SAW THE WINDOW STICKER REPORTING THAT THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A 47/47 MPG RATING. AFTER RESEARCHING OTHER VEHICLES THAT MET MY TASTES AND REQUIREMENTS I DECIDED TO TRY THE C-MAX AND ESCAPE, MAZDA CX-5, AND A VW DIESELS, AND PRIUS V. MPGS WERE ONE OF LEADING FACTOR IN MY PURCHASING DECISION. THE C-MAX WAS 17 MPG BETTER THAN THE ESCAPE, 16 MPG BETTER THAN THE CX-5, 6-7 MPG BETTER THAN THE VWS, AND 5 BETTER THAN THE PRIUS ON HW. FORD HAS NOW CHANGED THE MPG ON THE C-MAX 2 TIMES, LOWERING IT BELOW THE VWS/PRIUS AND 9-10 MPG AGAINST THE ESCAPE AND CX-5. THE C-MAX CHANGED FROM 47 TO 42 CITY AND 47 TO 37 MPG HIGHWAY (10 MPG/20% LOWER). IF TODAY I WAS MAKING THE SAME COMPARISON I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH MPG AS THE DECIDING FACTOR. AFTER A SHORT TIME THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY STEERING RACK. THEY ISSUED A LOANER CAR WHILE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. ON 7-5-2013, I ENTERED MY GARAGE AT 5AM, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE "FUEL PUMP" HAD TURNED ITSELF ON AND WAS RUNNING CONSTANTLY. MY WIFE DROVE TO SCHOOL TO PICK UP MY SON THE NEXT DAY. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT, WHERE SHE COULD NOT START THE CAR AGAIN. THERE WAS NO POWER FOR A WHILE BEFORE SHE COULD START THIS CAR. DEALER IS STILL TRYING TO FIX THIS CAR. IT IS NOT EASY FOR LOCAL DEALER TO FIND THE ROOT CAUSE. I THINK THE DESIGNER SHOULD TAKE OVER AND DEBUG THIS ISSUE. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR ANY DRIVER TO DRIVE A CAR THAT COULD STOP ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE. THERE IS NO WARNING SIGN UNTIL IT HAPPENS. FOR MOTOR COMPANY AND LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS TO DO SO. UNABLE TO GET SUFFICIENT INFORMATION FROM FMC TO DETERMINE IF ITS A FLEET WIDE PROBLEM OR A SINGLE VEHICLE PROBLEM. THE UNUSUAL PROBLEM MAKES THE VEHICLE VERY HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE AND UNRELIABLE TO USE ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS. *TR
WENT TO START CAR FIRST THING IN THE MORNING FOR WORK AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. HAD TO JUMP START. TOOK TO DEALER. THEY KEPT OVERNIGHT AND RAN TESTS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. SECOND OCCURRENCE ON 1/25 - SAME THING - COMPLETELY DEAD - THIS TIME IT WAS MID AFTERNOON AFTER SITTING ALL DAY AT WORK. HAD TO JUMP START AGAIN. TAKING TO DEALER IN THE MORNING. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO APPARENT REASON IT JUST DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT HAS POWER AND NOTHING WORKS. *TR
I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY AND WHEN I STOPPED, I COULDN'T GO BACKWARDS. I PULLED FORWARD AND PARKED. PULLED BACK AGAIN AND THE CAR DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. THE ENGINE LIGHT DID COME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD IT FOR TWO WEEKS. FORD SAID IT IS A "REVERSE DELAY PROBLEM" AND THEY KNOW ABOUT IT. FORD IS WORKING ON A FIX. FORD IS KNOWING SELLING THE C-MAX WITH A DRIVE TRAIN PROBLEM AND DOES NOT CONSIDER THE "REVERSE DELAY" A SAFETY PROBLEM. I DO CONSIDER IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE AND TRYING TO GET THE CAR RETURNED AND FORD WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES. UPON RETURN TO THE KEY WAS INSERTED AND THEN TURNED TO START. THE GASOLINE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY STARTED AND WENT TO MAX ENGINE RPM THEN APPEARED TO SHUT DOWN VIA THE ENGINE OVERSPEED SENSOR. AS SOON AS THE ENGINE SPEED DROPPED TO ZERO, IT AGAIN REPEATED THE HIGH RPM OVERSPEED. THIS TIME THE KEY WAS TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION. IT WAS NOTED THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED. THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED AND NOTHING WAS NEAR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE KEY WAS RETURNED TO THE START POSITION WITH THE SAME OVERSPEED CONDITION HAPPENING AGAIN. THE KEY WAS IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO OFF. AGAIN NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES APPEARED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALLOWED TO SET FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. THE KEY WAS TURNED TO START. THE ENGINE DID NOT OVERSPEED, BUT WAS NOTABLY SURGING AT IDLE. VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN GEAR AND DRIVEN FOUR BLOCKS, WITH THE ENGINE SURGING, TO THE OWNERS DRIVEWAY AND PARKED. THE FORD DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THEY ADVISED TO "DRIVE IT IN SO WE CAN LOOK AT IT". I ADVISED THAT I FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE TO THE POSSIBLE RAPID ENGINE ACCELERATION. A WRECKER WAS CALLED, UPON IT'S ARRIVAL, THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED BY THE WRECKER DRIVER, HE STATED THAT THE CAR SEEMED TO BE FINE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ONTO THE WRECKER BED, HE EXPERIENCED THE SUDDEN ENGINE OVERSPEED. HE THEN STATED, "NOW I SEE WHY YOU DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THIS". THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DELIVERED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR EXAMINATION, AND HOPEFULLY, REPAIR. *TR
