WHILE DRIVING AND USING THE ACCELERATOR , THE RPM WOULD REV UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CAR WOULD THEN JERK BACK AND FORTH. ONLY ABLE TO GO APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES PER HOUR, BUT THE RPM WOULD GO AS HIGH AS 6K OR 7K RPM. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WHEN IDLE, ALSO FELT RPM GO UP AND JERKING MOTION.
ENGINE RECALL I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND SUDDENLY LOUD TICKING SOUNDS STARTING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THEN THE POWER ALMOST WENT TO NOTHING AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWLY DOWN (AS IF THE CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF (IT WAS STILL ON). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TICKING SOUND GOT LOUDER. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE OFF WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENTS. I GOT HOME AND CALLED SEVERAL MACHANICS TO SEE IF ANYONE COULD COME BY AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON AS I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR. TODAY A MECHANIC CAME AND SAID THE FOLLOWING: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. LOUD VALVE TRAIN NOISES AND FAINT KNOCKING CAN BE HEARD AT IDLE. DEAD MISFIRE ON ONE CYLINDER. NOISE IS MECHANICAL. ONE DTC RETURNED (PO365 - CAN SENSOR B CKT MALFUNCTION). PER MECHANIC - STRONGLY SUSPECT ENGINE IS IN EARLY STAGES OF COMMON FAILURE. INQUIRE W/MFG ENGINE RECALL. IT IS SHOWING SAME SYMPTOMS AS PREVIOUS YEAR RECALL FOR SONATA HYBRIDS AND ENGINE FAILURES. THERE IS LOW OF POWER AND LOUD TICKING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE.
AROUND A YEAR AGO (FEB 14, 2018), I RECEIVED A MESSAGE "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING, PLEASE STOP NOW". MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND THANK GOD, I WAS PULLING INTO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. MY CAR WAS INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TPS SYSTEM. THAT WAS REPLACED AND I WAS ON MY WAY. OVER 7 MONTHS AGO (JULY 2018), I RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE; "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING, PLEASE STOP VEHICLE NOW". AFTER THE WARNING, MY CAR STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND THIS TIME THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THORNTON ROAD HYUNDAI INSPECTED MY CARE AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY STATED IT WAS THE MOTOR. AFTER OVER $5000 WORTH OF WORK HERE IT IS APRIL 2019 AND THE SAME WARNING. THIS TIME I WAS STRANDED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. ONCE THE TOW TRUCK GUY GOT THERE, HE ESCORTED ME TO HIS TRUCK TO BE SAFE. I HAVE LOOKED INTO THIS WARNING OVER A YEAR AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND ALL HYUNDAI DEALERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF WHAT THIS WARNING IS. WE AS HYUNDAI OWNERS NEED ANSWERS AND HELP. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT MONEY INTO A CAR WHEN THE PROBLEM IS ONLY BEING PATCHED UP.
WHILE DRIVING HOME, I HEARD A MUFFLED KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE WHEN ACCELERATING. AT THE NEXT TRAFFIC LIGHT, I WAITED FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE, AND WHEN I STARTED MOVING I REALIZED THE ENGINE DID NOT START FROM THE HYBRID. AS I DANGEROUSLY MANEUVERED THE CAR ACROSS THE RIGHT LANE, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE SPOT AND THE WARNING CHIME CAME ON SAYING I HAD LOW VOLTAGE IN HYBRID BATTERY. HAD CAR TOWED HOME AND THEN TO HYUDAI DEALER. THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE, WHICH WAS RIDICULOUS. OIL HAS ALWAYS BEEN CHANGED BY ME OR A REGULAR GARAGE. AFTER VIEWING OTHER COMMENTS BY PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM I REALIZED THAT THIS WAS APPARENTLY AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE SONATA HYBRID ENGINE. STILL TRYING TO GET DEALER TO REPLACE ENGINE.
RIGHT AFTER I STARTED MY VEHICLE THE ENGINE STARTING MAKING AN UNUSUAL SOUND THE OTHER DAY. THE NOISE GETS WORSE WHEN DRIVING. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THE ENGINE HAS KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM IT. I WAS TOLD IT PROBABLY NEEDS AND ENGINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A HYBRID GAS/ELECTRIC ENGINE IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE MAKING THIS SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT THEIR HYBRIDS NOT JUST THE REGULAR 2.0 AND 2.4 GAS ENGINES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALL STAR HYUNDAI (3950 CENTURY CT, PITTSBURG, CA 94565, (925) 778-7878) BY AAA WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MAJOR FAILURE OCCURRED. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN I HEARD SHARP BELLS RINGING FROM THE CAR DASH. CHECK HYBRID SYSTEMS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON DASH. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT JUST STOPPED. I HAD NO TIME TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN. I WAS IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. GOOD SAMARITAN PUSHED MY CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CHECK BRAKES LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. THE CAR WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY PAD LIGHT CAME ON. LOCKS WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE WINDOW WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THE INTERNAL CAR LIGHTS WERE ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. THE KEY PAD COULD NOT LOCK/UNLOCK THE CAR. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED ON A SIDE ROAD. 1 MILE EARLIER I WAS ON A FREEWAY THAT HAD NO SHOULDER. IF IT HAD HAPPENED THERE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. NUMEROUS SYSTEMS FAILED. I TOOK IT TO THEY DEALER. THEY HAD TO WAIT FOR THE HYBRID SPECIALIST. HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS VERY DIRTY AND ORDERED A NEW TRANSMISSION. MY QUESTION, WHY WOULD CHECK HYBRID SYSTEMS COME ON AND SO MUCH ELECTRICAL FAILURE IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ IN FORUMS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER HYBRID SONATA OWNERS. EVEN AFTER THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED, I STILL FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THE CAR NOW. IF IT HAD HAPPENED JUST 1 MILE EARLIER, MY CAR STOPPING IMMEDIATELY ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO SHOULDER COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND BEEN LIFE-THREATENING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO IDLE MODE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING SOUND, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DANBURY HYUNDAI (102 FEDERAL RD, DANBURY, CT 06810, (203) 730-4700) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED, STALLED, AND SHUT OFF. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND "CHARGING SYSTEM IS NOT CHARGING" WAS DISPLAYED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER (BURNS HYUNDAI, 550 W ROUTE 70, MARLTON, NJ 08053, (856) 983-3700) WHERE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND THE FAILURE COULD LEAD TO A CRASH OR FATALITY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
IN JULY OF 2017 MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND BEGAN TO MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 45MPH. I LIMPED THE CAR INTO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HEAR FROM THEM THE NEXT DAY. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WENT TO GET SOME ITEMS OUT OF MY CAR. ROD JOHNSON OF FOLSOM LAKE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD CONDUCTED A CHECK ON THE CAR AND THAT IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. HE STATED THE CAR WAS SLIGHTLY OVER 100,000 MILES, AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY, AND THE REPAIR COST IS 10,000.00. I TOLD HIM I WOULD HAVE TO GET BACK TO HIM ABOUT THE REPAIR. WHEN I GOT HOME I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A REPORT OF THIS PROBLEM. SURE ENOUGH, THERE WAS PLENTY. AND, ON TOP OF THAT ALL THE ARTICLES I CAME ACROSS STATED THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WITHIN THE ENGINE. THE ARTICLE STATES THAT IN 2016 HYUNDAI LOST A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN WHICH THEY HAD TO RECALL 470,000. SINCE THEN THEY HAVE HAD TO RECALL MANY MORE. WELL OVER 1 MILLION. HYUNDAI'S REFUSAL TO REPLACE THE ENGINE HAS BEEN VERY STRESSFUL. THE DEALERS REFUSAL TO REPLACE THE ENGINE W/NO COST TO ME IS: 1) MY CAR HAS A SHORT-BLOCK, AND THOSE ENGINES HAVE NOT BEEN REPORTED. ALL PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN WITH THE LONG-BLOCKS ONLY. 2) IF I CAN PRODUCE THE ONLY OIL CHANGE INVOICE THAT IS MISSING, THEN THEY WILL REPLACE. (TOLD TO THE REPRESENTATIVE W/BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. 3) MILAGE IS 120,000 MILES. I CAN'T SELL IT, I'M STILL PAYING ON IT. I CAN'T SCRAP IT, I'M STILL PAYING ON IT. I CAN'T DONATE IT, I'M STILL PAYING ON IT. PER THE DEALERS SVC. DEPT. THE ENGINE FAILURE IS DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE, AS OUTLINED IN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. HYUNDAI HAD TO RAISE THE WARRANTY 120,000 BECAUSE, THE PROBLEM FAILS TO SHOW IT'S SELF SOMETIMES UNTIL 80,000 TO 100,000 MILES. WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?????
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN JUST OVER 3 MONTHS, THE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILED (AND DISPLAYED HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE / DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE) ON THE 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THERE WAS NO MOTORING TO THE WHEELS AFTER COMPLETE STOP. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE IS REPORTED IN NHTSA REPORT # 11100475 (MAY 29, 2018). THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2018. THIS OCCURRED WHILE BACKING UP. AFTER TOWING, THE HYUNDAI MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH HE TRIED TO MIMIC THE FAILURE SITUATION. FURTHER, ERROR CODE WAS NOT OBTAINED DUE TO AUTOMATIC RESET WHEN VEHICLE RESTARTED (POOR FIRMWARE DESIGN?). THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND THEREFORE HARD TO DIAGNOSE, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT RECOVERABLE ERROR CODES. WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS THE DRIVER MUST STRIVE TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY AND VERY PROMPTLY, SINCE VEHICLE MOTORING IS LOST. HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE IS INDIFFERENT TO THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NOW FUNCTIONING, THOUGH NOT TRULY REPAIRED (VEHICLE "FIXED" ITSELF ON RESET). HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS CLOSED THE PROBLEM REPORT (SECOND TIME IN JUST OVER 3 MONTHS). THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, SINCE THE DRIVER HAS TO IMMEDIATELY STOP THE CAR AT A SAFE SPOT, EVEN IF IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC.
ON 05/10/2018, I NOTICED SEVERE VIBRATION AND CLUNKING IN STEERING WHEEL. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FLEXIBLE COUPLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN DUE TO WEAR. ON 08/08/2018, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICE AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE BRAKES AS I EXPERIENCED AN INTERMITTENT LOUD SQUEAKING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. ON 09/25/2018, I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE FROM A STATIONARY POSITION AND WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND A WARNING CAME ON THE DASH ADVISING ME THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AND I NEEDED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. UPON RESTART THE WARNING CONDITION DID NOT REOCCUR. VEHICLE TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE ISSUE SEEMS TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM SIMPLY NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BY AAA TO PLAZA HYUNDAI (2740 NOSTRAND AVENUE #2, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK 11210, (347) 983-5977). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 11575666. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A LOUD CLANKING SOUND, VIBRATES, AND DELAYS IN REACTING TO TURNS.
TAKATA RECALL, MY CAR WAS TOTALED OUT IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON JULY 24, 2018. AS THE RESULT OF THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME WAS DRIVING AND HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP MULTIPLE TIMES ATTEMPTING TO FIND THE TURN SHE WAS LOOKING FOR. IT WAS A UNIT IN BETWEEN US ALLOWING ME TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT HITTING HER. IN THE PROCESS OF ME HITTING BREAKS MY ENGINE REVED REALLY HIGH CAUSING MY CAR TO SPEED UP INSTEAD OF STOP. THE BACK TIRED WERE EVEN SPINNING WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAKS. AS A RESULT MY CAR SLAMMED INTO HER REAR END WITHOUT ME HAVING ANY CONTROL PERIOD. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO HER VEHICLE OTHER THAN A SCRATCH FROM THE IMPACT OF MY CAR, HOWEVER MY CAR WAS TOTALED COMPLETELY OUT. I'M FAULTED FOR THE ACCIDENT BC I'M SUPPOSE TO HAVE CONTROL OVER MY OWN CAR. IN THIS CASE I DID NOT. I WAS TOLD BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO INVESTIGATE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR DEALING WITH THESE ISSUES CAUSING MY ACCIDENT, AND SURE ENOUGH THERE IS 2 RECALLS I WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT. THE ONLY ONE I KNEW ABOUT WAS THE SEATBELT AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALSHIP FOR THAT AND IT STILL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I NEED TO KNOW SINCE THESE RECALLS PLAY A PART IN MY ACCIDENT HOW I CAN BE COMPENSATED. IT CLEARLY WAS NOT MY FAULT THAT THE CAR HAD MANUFACTURE ISSUES I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT. IT'S HAD THIS ISSUE FOR SOME TIME NOW BUT I WAS TOLD IT'S BC IT'S A HYBRID ME KNOWING IT WAS SOMETHING NOT SAFE ABOUT IT. I WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET GETTING READY TO GET IN THE LEFT LANE ONCE THE LADY TURNED TO TAKE MY SON TO SCHOOL. SHE ALMOST MISSED HER TURN AND HIT HER BRAKES. MY CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO ME HITTING MY BRAKES IT JUST KEPT GOING. #162
WHEN I AM PARKED WITH THE CAR ON OR STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WHEN I TURN MY WHEEL QUICKLY LEFT TO RIGHT I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE. IT SEEMS TO BE COMING BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING COLUMN. WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING IT MAKES THAT NOISE WHEN TURNING AND GOING OVER ANY KIND OF BUMPS.
I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR A COUPLE YEARS. RANDOMLY, I GOT AN ALERT WHILE KEEPING REGULAR MAINTENACNCE ON MY CAR SAYING "CHECK BRAKES" AND "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING". I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE "HECU, HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU)" IS FAULTY. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE HYUNDAI GENESIS, BUT NOT AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE 2013 SONATA HYBRID. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE MY MODEL OF CAR IS AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE, AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ACTIVE RECALL, SO I AM REACHING OUT TO YOU TO REPORT THIS. I HOPE AN INVESTIGATION CAN TAKE PLACE FOR THIS BECAUSE I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE AT NO FAULT OF MY OWN. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (BRAMAN MIAMI HYUNDAI, 2001 NE 2ND AVE, MIAMI, FL 33137, (305) 571-1200), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 11506645. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR STOPPED AND WOULDN'T START, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON,MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD READ "HYBRID SYSTEM ERROR" "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" THAN EVERYTHING WENT OFF, NO POWER, NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS, THIS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET. LUCKILY A SHERIFF'S WAS NEARBY AND REROUTED CARS. VERY SCARY. SEEMS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING TO WORK AT 7:45AM AT S VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. CAR IS AT MECHANIC'S SHOP.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 81 SOUTH NEAR WOODSTOCK, VA ON SUNDAY MORNING, JUNE 24, 2018. THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND, THEN WE LOST POWER. BY THE TIME WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER, THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE ENTIRE CAR ENDED UP BURNING. THE VA STATE POLICE, VDOT, AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND I-81 SOUTH WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A TIME. I PURCHASED MY CAR NEW AND DID ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE PER FACTORY RECOMMENDATION INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, TIRE ROTATIONS, ETC. BY THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN BOWIE, MD. I HAVE COPIES OF ALL MY RECEIPTS FROM THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE THE RECORDS ON THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. MY CAR HAD 91,000 MILES ON IT. WE CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS.
EXPERIENCED A COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED (AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS) STALLING WHILE DRIVING (I.E., NOT WHILE STOPPED). THIS SUDDEN STALL WAS DISPLAYED TO THE SONATA'S DRIVER PANEL AS HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE, AND THE ALARM WAS TRIGGERED TO BEEP CONTINUOUSLY. THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE 12V LEAD-ACID DETERIORATING, WITH CAPACITY DEGRADED TO 110CCA FROM SPECIFIED 600CCA. EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY WAS DEGRADING, THE CAR SHOULD NOT STALL JUST BECAUSE THE BATTERY CAPACITY IS LOW.
WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS HIGH (UPPER 90S AND MORE), AFTER COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN, THE ENGINE SEIZES. IT SEEMS THE ENGINE DOESN'T ENGAGE OR THE TRANSFER FROM THE BATTERY TO THE ENGINE POWER DOESN'T ENGAGE OR SOMETHING. ALSO SOMETIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD LIKE IT WON'T STOP. THIS STARTED LAST SUMMER AND I TOOK IT IN AND THEY WORKED ON IT AND IT WAS BETTER FOR A LITTLE WHILE, NOT COMPLETELY FIXED, BUT NOW IT HAS STARTED AGAIN (WITH THE HEAT) AND IT IS WORSE THAN BEFORE.
REPORTED ORIGINALLY IN NHTSA 11084763 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED AGAIN THE CAR DIED WITH NO WARNING WHEN THE HYBRID SYSTEM WENT OUT AND LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND ABILITY TO STEER CAR. THE CAR WOULD START BUT WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN GEAR AND WAS IN "LIMP" MODE BUT WAS UNABLE TO "LIMP" OFF THE HIGHWAY. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP TO COOL HYBRID SYSTEM WAS BAD BUT I HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER TWICE BEFORE TO COMPLAIN THAT THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVING OR ACCELERATING PROPERLY. I KEPT BEING TOLD THAT IT COULD NOT BE REPLICATED AND "NO CODES" ARE BEING THROWN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD FIX AND TRAIN THEIR SERVICE PEOPLE TO IDENTIFY BEFORE THE CAR JUST DIES ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS THE SECOND MAJOR PROBLEM I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH THIS SONATA HYBRID AND IT IS SCARY WHEN A CAR JUST STOP UNEXPECTEDLY ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CLEAR SMOOTH ROAD I HEARD A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE I HAD RUN OVER A METAL TYPE OBJECT. I DID NOT SEE ANY DEBRIS IN THE ROAD AS I APPROACHED THE AREA NOR AS I PROCEEDED AWAY FROM IT. APPROX 3/4 TO 1 MILE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD I SMELT SMOKE AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE DRIVER WHEEL WELL AREA. I PULLED OVER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE TIRE EXPLODED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT SPRING HAD BROKEN CAUSING THE DAMAGE. THE CAR IS CASUALLY DRIVEN AND CURRENTLY HAS JUST OVER 25,000 MILES ON IT. I AM DEFINITELY CONCERNED THIS IS A DEFECT!
ENGINE PISTON FAIL AND RESULTED IN HOLE IN BOTTOM ENGINE WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH. WITNESS IS MECHANIC, HIS PHONE IS: 661-251-4288
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO REVERSE, BUT IT FAILED TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE. ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH A STREET SIGN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS HOME. THE DEALER (KEYES MISSION HILLS HYUNDAI, 10240 SEPULVEDA BLVD, MISSION HILLS, MISSION HILL, CA 91345, (818) 221-4000) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DETERMINATION OF THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT A FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000. *TT *TR
ON OCTOBER 28, 2017, I WAS INJURED IN AN AUTOMOBILE COLLISION, WHICH WAS CAUSED SOLELY BY A MALFUNCTION BY MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. ON THAT DATE, I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE SAFELY AND CAREFULLY, LIKE I ALWAYS DO. I WAS PROCEEDING SLOWLY IN MY CAR, AND TRAVELING BETWEEN 10 MILES PER HOUR. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND TRIED TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. HOWEVER, WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE, AND THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD AND THE SHIFTING GEARS GOT STUCK. DESPITE MY MULTIPLE EFFORTS TO APPLY SUFFICIENT FORCE TO THE BRAKES, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I THEN TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION BY PLACING THE SHIFT SELECTOR TO 'NEUTRAL,' BUT I COULD NOT MOVE SHIFTER OR MOVE THE SHIFTER FROM 'DRIVE' TO 'NEUTRAL.' DESPITE PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BUTTON AND SHIFTER, I WAS UNABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND IT PROCEEDED FORWARDED UNTIL IT STRUCK A STREET SIGN, WHEREUPON MY VEHICLE CAME TO REST. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAD THESE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 15, 2014 FROM MISSION HILLS HYUNDAI ('DEALER'), AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED THERE. EARLIER THIS YEAR, ON OR ABOUT MAY 18, 2017, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND TRANSMISSION INSPECTED AND SERVICED. AT THAT TIME, I EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH THE BRAKES AND SHIFTER WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO REVERSE.
FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS A SIREN GOES OFF IN MY CAR AND THE LITES START FLASHING SUCH AS BRAKE LIGHTS, THE KEY FOB LIGHT STATES SHOWING AS IF IT CAN'T BE FOUND IN VEHICLE. MOST OF ALL THE VEHICLE CAN'T START. THE FIRST TIME I BROUGHT IT TO ONE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY BATTERY REPLACED. THE SECOND YEAR I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPENED RIGHT IN THE MIST OF TRAFFIC, THE CAR STOPPED AND COULDN'T MOVE, SAME SYMPTOMS AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM SOUTH PHILA. TO BURLINGTON NJ., RESULTS WERE THAT THE RELAYS HAD FAILED. JUST THIS WEEK I WENT TO START MY CAR AND NOTHING HAPPENED. TRIED AGAIN AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING AND A SIREN LIKE A DIVING SUBMARINE STARTED BLARING. CALLED THE TOW SERVICE AND AGAIN BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME MY CAR IS AT THE SHOP WITH NO CLUE AS TO WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN A FATAL ERROR CODE FLASHED AND SAID STOP CAR AFTER 20 SECONDS THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS DIED (NOT ENOUGH TIME TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE (NO 4-WAY FLASHERS OPERABLE). TOWED TO DEALER AND DEALER STATED THE LITHIUM BATTERY WAS 3 VOLTS CAUSING THE ISSUE AND BLOWING THE SAFETY PLUG CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP WITH NO ELECTRICAL OPERATION. I ASKED WHY THERE IS NO WARNING THAT ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO KNOW THAT THE LITHIUM BATTERY WILL FAIL CAUSING THIS FATAL ISSUE. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE IS NO ADVANCED WARNING, WHEN THE BATTERY DIES IT SHUTS DOWN THE VEHICLE QUICKLY WITHIN 20 SECONDS. THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT ON A BUSY FREEWAY AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR TRAFFIC COLLISION AS THE VEHICLE IS BLACK.
WE BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM THE DEALER EARLY ON WE HAD HYBRID WARNING SYSTEM ISSUES WE HAVE BEEN STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES HAVING TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER RECHARGED AND SERVICE EACH TIME WE WERE TOLD THEY DON'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG THE DEALER CHARGES THE BATTERY AND GIVES THE CAR BACK. NOW 3 YEARS LATER WE GOT THE OIL CHANGED AS NORMAL, IT'S THANKSGIVING WEEK AND WE ARE HEADED TO VACATION 3 HOURS FROM HOME WE AR E AN HOUR AWAY FROM DESTINATION AND THE CAR LOSES POWER GOING UP HILL THE OIL PAN LIGHT COMES ON, WE PULL OVER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOUNTAINS AND SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO FIND US. WE TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALER HOPING SOMETHING WASN'T DONE RIGHT WITH THE OIL CHANGED HOWEVER DEALER SAYS THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY SO WE WILL NEED TO PAY $6600 TO REPLACE WITH USED ENGINE. THIS CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD WE REGULARLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED. WE ARE NOT GIVEN ANY REASON FOR THE SEIZED ENGINE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE THE DAY WE GOT IT AND THE DEALER HAS NEVER PROVIDED MUCH HELP AS WERE ASKED TO TAKE PICTURES WHICH WE DID BUT STILL NOTHING.
THERE IS CLUNKING AND PLAY IN THE STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS, IN PARK OR STOPPED. IT APPEARS TO BE THERE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED WITHIN 5 - 10 DEGREES OF CENTER. ALSO, THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING/CLANKING SOUND WHEN GOING OVER ROUGH PAVEMENT, SPEED BUMPS, ETC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. ALSO, THE GEARSHIFT BECAME DIFFICULT TO SHIFT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT STRUCK A STREET SIGN. THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES TO THE BACK,NECK, AND HEAD WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH KEYES MISSION HILLS HYUNDAI (10240 SEPULVEDA BLVD, MISSION HILLS, CA 91345), BUT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. *BF UPDATED 8/20/18*JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ADVISED THE BRAKES AND COMPUTER SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *JS
CAR HAS 65K MILES. WARNING "CHIME" CAME ON, TOTAL LOSS OF POWER, PULLED OF ROAD SAFELY. WARNING LIGHT ON DASH CAME ON ... HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING...SAFELY STOP... DO NOT DRIVE...THEN....CHECK BRAKE....THEN BACK TO HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING...DO NOT DRIVE....THEN BACK TO CHECK BRAKE. AND ON AND ON. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AFTER A MINUTE AND RESTARTED CAR DROVE ANOTHER SEVERAL MILES AND THEN SAME SITUATION. I HAVE SEEN A VIDEO POST ON YOUTUBE AND HAVE SEEN OTHER POSTS AS WELL AND ONE WITH A VEHICLE HAVING ONLY 3500 MILES. I'M TRYING TO SEE THAT THIS SHOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND TOTALLY UNSAFE.
CAR WILL NOT START. ALL THE POWER, RADIO & THE LIGHT COMES ON BUT WHEN TURN THE IGNITION IT DOESN'T MAKE A SOUND. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENTLY NOT START . PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY MY BUSINESS NUMBER IS [XXX]. I AM NOT HERE TO BASH HYUNDAI BECAUSE I BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 10 YEARS. THE 2013 HYBRIDS HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WHEN ACCELERATING. I AM NOT SURE WHAT EXACTLY BUT I WILL TRY MY BEST TO TYPE IT ACCURATELY. WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AND U COME TO A RED LIGHT OR A STOP SIGN OR EVEN JUS BRAKING DO TO TRAFFIC THE ENGINE STALL AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE . I ALMOST DIED 3 TIMES IN THIS CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE . I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND A TRUCK WAS DOWN THE STREET TO MY LEFT THERE WAS NO IN COMING TRAFFIC TO MY RIGHT I PROCEEDED TO HIT THE GAS BUT THE VEHICLE ROLLED SLOWLY AND I STILL HAD MY FOOT FLAT ON THE PEDAL , IT TOOK ALMOST 17 SECONDS FOR MY ENGINE TO ACTUALLY MOVE MY CAR WHICH WAS ALMOST FLIPPED BY THE INCOMING TRUCK DRIVER WHO THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO TURN AND KEEP GOING LEFT IN THE OPPOSITE LANE SO HE DIDN'T HIT BRAKES FROM EARLY AND MY ENGINE KICKED IN AND ACTED LIKE I WAS DOING A BURN OUT MEANING FOR EXAMPLE AT A DEAD STOP AND I FLOOR THE PEDAL CAUSIN THE CAR TO TAKE OFF FASTER THAN NORMAL SAFE OPERATOR PRACTICES .BUT I ALMOST DIED TODAY AND THE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF I HAVE A BUNCH OF VIDEOS OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (HEADQUARTER HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 3775 US-17, SANFORD, FL 32773; (407) 292-0000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC PUMP AND THE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES, BUT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-633-5151 AND ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER. CASE NUMBER: 10207156 WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
CAR MAKE A NOISE FROM THE FRONT DRIVE TRAIN WHILE DRIVING. SOUNDS LIKE A WEARING OR RUBBING NOISE WHILE MOVING THAT INCREASES DURING TURNING (WHILE AT ROAD SPEED GOING THROUGH A CURVE IN ROADWAY). NOISE HAS BEEN CONSISTENT FOR THE LAST 30K MILES (CURRENT MILEAGE IS APROX 88K MILES). NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT A FEW DAYS AGO DO NOT LESSEN THE NOISE.
CAR FAILED TO START NORMALLY. NO EV READY MODE. DETERMINED THAT VEHICLE WOULD START AFTER DEPRESSING BRAKE, PRESSING START BUTTON, MOVING SHIFTER THROUGH GEAR SELECTION QUICKLY, THEN PRESSING START BUTTON AGAIN. RECURRED 4 TIMES IN A 1 WEEK PERIOD. ABOUT THE SAME DATE, CAR HAD WARNING TO STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT DRIVE. THIS WARNING CAME ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES DURING THE SAME WEEK AS STARTING PROBLEMS.
TIRES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. ORIGINAL FRONT TIRES WORE BADLY ON THE OUTSIDE AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 41K MILES. REPLACEMENT TIRES HAD A 60,000 MILE WARRANTY BUT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 42K MILES FOR THE SAME REASON. HAD MANY ALIGNMENTS, AND TIRE ROTATIONS. STORE MANAGER ALWAY STATED THAT THE CAR WAS ALIGNED TO MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS AND THAT THIS TYPE OF WEAR REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT APPROX 40K MILES, WAS TYPICAL OF ALL SONATAS.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE CONSOLE. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, I COULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I HAD TO MANEVOUR TO THE FAR RIGHT OF THE FREEWAY TO COME TO A STOP. TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE THEN RE STARTED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON.
THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOP POSITION AT A LIGHT OR DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR ALSO JERKS FROM TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE DISTRACTED.
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT APROX 9PM MY CAR STARTED TO MAKE THIS LOUD ABNOXIOUS SOUND THAT STATES FOR ME TO SLOWLY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER FROM THE FAST LANE TO THE SIDE, MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I WAS SO AFRAID BECAUSE THERE WERE OTHER CARS AND TRUCKS RIGHT BEHIND ME AND I FEARED FOR MY LIFE.I AM TOLD THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BUT IT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MAN. I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR A YEAR AGO AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE ISSUES. THIS IS UNSAFE ME LIFE THREATENING AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED ASAP. I HAVE ALSO READ REVIEWS ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN MY SAME SITUATION AND THAT THEY TOO HAVE BEEN IN LA LIFE THREATENING SCENARIO IN REGARDS TO THIS DEFECT WITH THE SAME EXACT CAR.
I WAS DRIVING ON A INTERSTATE AND SUDDENLY I SEE "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING MESSAGE" + "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" WITH CONTINUOUS ALARM BEEP SOUNDS. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY MOVE TO THE RIGHT MOST SHOULDER ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH I WAS ABLE TO AS CAR WAS STILL ON WITH ENGINE RUNNING). ONCE, I MOVED TO THE SHOULDER, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT WOULD TURN ON FINE BUT WOULDN'T MOVE AND IMMEDIATELY IT THROWS UP THE ERROR. I HAVE ATTACHED THE PICS FOR REFERENCE. SINCE CAR DIDN'T TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY, I WAS SAFELY ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE CURB. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF CAR HAD SHUT OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND THERE ARE WORKING ON IT. I JUST HAD A 45000 MILES FACTORY SERVICING WITH SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR GOT TOWED TO AND THEY CHECKED ON ALL THE GREEN BOXES. WITHIN A WEEK, I HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS IS WHAT TROUBLING ME.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN INTO THE GARAGE AND STOPPED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS BEFORE EXPERIENCING AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND CRASHING INTO THE GARAGE WALL CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE HOME. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE DRIVER HAD DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD. ALSO, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE FRONT PASSENGER TO BECOME INJURED SUFFERING A MILD CONCUSSION THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, A WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED DIRECTING THE CONTACT TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK. ALSO, THE BATTERY CHARGE WAS LOW. AFTER WAITING AN HOUR FOR CHARGING, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND BUCKED. THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN, STATING THAT THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WAS EXTREMELY LOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 97,000.
CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 9/10/2016 USED. IT WAS DRIVEN FOR THREE DAYS. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK THIS WARNING MSG CAME UP "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE!". THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON 9/19. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE SO IT WAS RETURNED. I WAS INFORMED IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO BRING IT IN. THE WARNING CAME ON AGAIN SO IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON 10/09. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT AGAIN SO THEY HAD IT FOR A WEEK TESTED IT EVERY WAY POSSIBLE INCLUDING DRIVING IT FOR A WEEK. THEY CALLED A HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE AND THEY INFORMED THEM OF WHAT TO WATCH AND OR LOOK FOR AND TO NO AVAIL NOTHING. IT WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME A WEEK LATER AND I WAS INFORMED IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN DO NOT TURN IT OFF BRING IT STRAIGHT THERE TO OBTAIN A CODE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN PUTTING IT INTO PARK, AND A COUPLE OF TIMES IT WOULD NOT LET ME START THE CAR I HAD TO WAIT FIVE MIN OR SO, PUSH THE LOCK/UNLOCK ON THE FOB, ANOTHER TIME THAT DID NOT WORK I HAD TO GET OUT OF CAR LOCK IT GET IN CAR LOCK IT AND THEN LOCK/UNLOCK IT FROM WITH IN AND IT STARTED. NOT SURE IF ALL THAT CORRELATED WITH IT BUT IT WORKED. *TR
THE HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRIDS HAVE A BELT CALLED "HSG BELT" WHICH BROKE IN MY VEHICLE, CAUSING THE CAR TO DIE WHILE ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS ON THE SIDE OF THIS HIGHWAY FOR 5 HOURS WAITING TO BE TOWED. THE DEALER COMMUNICATED THAT THE HSG BELT BROKE AND IS A PART THAT IS RECOMMENDED TO BE CHANGED EVERY 30,000 MILES. THAT IS REDICULOUS! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS OWNERS ARE UNAWARE OF THIS PART GOING BAD IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. IT ALSO CAUSES SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WHEN IT BRAKES ($1600). MOST IMPORTANTLY IT PUT ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AT MINIMUM HYUNDAI SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO SEND ALL OWNERS A NOTICE COMMUNICATING THIS PART SHOULD BE REPLACED SO OFTEN! HYUNDAI NOW CONSIDERS THIS PART A "MAINTENANCE" PART, THUS IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTEE. IN MY OPINION THIS IS HYUNDAI MAKING AN ISSUE GO AWAY BY CALLING IT A "MAINTENANCE PART". IT IS DANGEROUS AND THE ISSUE OR REPLACEMENT IS NOT ADEQUATELY COMMUNICATED TO THE SONATA HYBRID OWNERS/BUYERS.
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD, TRAVELING AT OR AROUND 25 MPH. AS I APPROACHED THE STOP SIGN THAT EXITS OUT TO THE MAIN ROAD, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHICH SLOWED THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT STOP IT. I AVOIDED BEING HIT ON MY DRIVERS SIDE BY TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP IN THE CENTER MEDIAN OF THE MAIN CITY ROAD. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CHIMES CAME ON NOTIFYING ME OF A BRAKE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD IT IN THEIR SHOP FOR 14 DAYS.
I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT WHILE DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC, TRAVELING 35-40 MPH, WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO SLOW DOWN AND PREPARE TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC AND THE RED LIGHT. WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP, WARNING CHIMES BEGAN TO GO OFF. I SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING SEVERAL VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME AS I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHICH ONLY GAVE ENOUGH RESISTANCE TO SLOW BUT NOT STOP THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO SLOW TO A STOP WHEN IT STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS, THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS WAS TO SHIFT IT IN TO PARK. ONCE I WAS SAFELY STOPPED, I OBSERVED IN THE INFORMATION NOTIFICATION CENTER A BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE MESSAGE, WHICH WAS THE REASON FOR THE WARNING CHIMES. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY TOWED IT TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THIS IS THE 2ND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE IN 6 MONTHS, 9TH TIME IN AND OVER 30 DAYS, AND COUNTING, FOR BRAKE ISSUES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. 1ST OCCURRENCE MILES - 42,143. 2ND OCCURRENCE MILES - 42,276 THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A WEEK I'M TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME HYBRID MALFUNCTION. THE CAR GAVE ME THE HYBRID WARNING, THEN WHILE TRYING TO PULL THE CAR OVER SAFELY, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED. THIS OCCURRED ON A BUSY CITY STREET. STEERING IS ALSO AN ISSUE, THE CAR DOES NOT TRACK STRAIT. THE CAR'S STEERING CONSTANTLY HAS TO BE CORRECTED TO TRACK STRAIT.
CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF LOCAL STREET ROAD AND NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO MOVE TO SIDE OF ROAD. CAR TOWED TO DELAER FOR REPAIR. WANT TO WARN ABOUT THIS DANGER TO OTHER OWNERS. WE WERE LUCKY SINCE NO ONE WAS BEHIND US WHEN THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. CAR WAS REPAIRED BY DELAER AS FOLLOWS. TECH SCAN CODES AND FOUND CODES U1007, P1775, P1774. TECH CHECK A/T FLUID, RED COLOR, SMELL NORMAL. RESET CODES, CODES COME BACK. TSB PROVIDED BY TECH LINE. TECH FOLLOW TSB#14-HC-003, RESULT TO REPLACE OIL PUMP CONTROL UNIT AND RECHECK. AFTER REPLACING OIL PUMP CONTROL UNIT, SAME PROBLEM PRESENT. TECH REPLACE OIL PUMP, AND FOUND OPEN YELLOW WIRE FROM OIL PUMP UNIT TO OIL PUMP. CAR RUNS NORMAL AND NO CODES PRESENT AT THIS TIME. TECH TRY TO PUT THE OLD OIL PUMP AND PUMP MODULE BACK IN, PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. TECH CONFIRM THE PUMP AND MODULE ARE BAD. NEW OIL PUMP AND MODULE REINSTALLED. CAR UNDER WARRANTY AND REPAIR WAS SUCCESSFUL. DELAER DID A GOOD JOB KEEPING ME INFORMED ON THE PROGRESS, EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED TO REPAIR THE CAR.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WITH STEER ASSIST OPTION ON THIS VEHICLE MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO HOLD A STRAIGHT LINE WHILE DRIVING. I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO CORRECT THE STEERING TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN CONTROL ON A STRAIGHT LINE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I BROUGHT IT TO THREE DIFFERENT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS , FINALLY THE LAST DEALERSHIP ACTUALLY TRIED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM TWICE ADJUSTING THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING CONTROL SWITCH. THIS SWITCH HAS FOUR DRIVING MODES FROM COMFORT TO SPORT. THE LAST VISIT THE TECHNICIAN PLACED IT IN THE SPORT MODE FOR BETTER STEERING RESPONSE WITH LESS PLAY IN THE STEERING, THIS DID HELP SOMEWHAT BUT THE CAR STILL DRIFTS TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. TWO FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS WERE PERFORMED BUT STILL COULD NOT SOLVE THE DRIFTING PROBLEM. THIS DRIFTING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO ANOTHER LANE IF I DO NOT CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING. IN OVER 30 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES I NEVER HAD SUCH A PROBLEM. I SENT HYUNDAI AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS AND IT LED TO NOWHERE BUT CALL A THIRD PARTY MODERATOR. THAT IS AN EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING RESPONSE AND I'M TOTALLY DISGUSTED ABOUT THIS. I SEARCHED ONLINE IF OTHER OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND I'LL TELL YOU THERE ARE MANY OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IT'S A SHAME HYUNDAI IS IGNORING SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT WILL LEAD TO A RESOLUTION BEFORE A SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR FATALITY OCCURS. PLEASE EXAMINE THIS ISSUE.
AS I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN FROM 75MPH THE CAR STARTED TO BEEP AND THE READY LIGHT WAS FLASHING. MANY INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON TO INCLUDE THE BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT, AND THE AMBER BOX WITH A WRENCH IN IT. IT SAID "CHECK HYBRID CHARGING SYSTEM" AND "SAFELY PULL OVER" AS THE CAR SLOWED DOWN THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER GO FORWARD, THE LIGHTS DIMMED AND WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE.
TWO WEEKS AGO THE REAR LEFT SEAT SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE WHILE DRIVING. I BELIEVE THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE SEAT WARMERS BUT THE CASE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. HYUNDAI CORPORATE AMERICA HAS BEEN EXTREMELY UNRESPONSIVE TO THIS ISSUE.
I HAVE A PUSH BUTTON VEHICLE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE (PUSH THE BUTTON AND PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKES), THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS NO "READY" BUTTON. THE CAR APPEARED TO BE IN STANDBY MODE. THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL "SIGNAL CODE" OR ALARM BUTTON THAT APPEARED ON THE STANDARD DASH BOARD. HAD TO CALL ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. INITIAL WAIT TIME FOR THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING WAS OVER 1 HOUR.
I HAVE A PUSH BUTTON VEHICLE. I WAS AT HOME AND I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE (PUSH THE BUTTON AND PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKES), THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS NO "READY" BUTTON. MULTIPLE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS OVER 30 MINUTES. THE CAR APPEARED TO BE IN STANDBY MODE. THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL "SIGNAL CODE" OR ALARM BUTTON THAT APPEARED ON THE STANDARD DASH BOARD. AFTER 45 MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION.

MULTIPLE UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS. THE CAR APPEARED TO BE IN STANDBY MODE. THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL "SIGNAL CODE" OR ALARM BUTTON THAT APPEARED ON THE STANDARD DASH BOARD. ON 19 JUL 2013, AN INSURED DRIVER ON MY AUTO POLICY WAS DRIVING IN NORTH DAKOTA AND HIT A DEER. THE RIGHT FENDER, RIGHT HEADLIGHT, HOOD AND BUMPER WERE DAMAGED. SHE CALLED ME & I TOLD HER IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, TO CONTINUE DRIVING. SHE KEPT DRIVING AND THEN THE OVERHEATING LIGHT CAME ON. SHE PULLED THE CAR OVER IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. SHE CALLED ME AGAIN & I TOLD HER TO CALL HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ABRA IN BISMARCK, ND. THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE COST WAS $9760.00. THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING IT FROM THE REPAIR SHOP TO THE PAINT SHOP, WHICH WAS RIGHT NEXT DOOR. THEY TURNED ON THE ENGINE & AS IT WAS SITTING THERE, IT STARTED SPEWING RADIATOR FLUID. THEY TURNED IT OFF AND TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI OF BISMARCK. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE HEADS WERE WARPED AND THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED. AFTER THE COST OF THE NEW ENGINE WAS ADDED TO THE COST OF REPAIRS, THE CAR WAS TOTALED. I DON'T THINK THAT IF A PERSON PULLS OVER WITHIN A MINUTE OF THE OVERHEATING LIGHT COMING ON. THAT IT WILL WARP THE HEADS. THE WHOLE REASON FOR THE LIGHT IS TO WARN THE DRIVER.. I BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE OR THE COMPUTER WITHIN THE VEHICLE WAS DEFECTIVE & DIDN'T COME ON EARLY ENOUGH BEFORE THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE HEADS & WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE PERSON DIRIVING. THIS INSURANCE CLAIM WENT TOO FAST AND USAA SIGNED OFF AND TOTALED THE VEHICLE JUST ON NUMBERS, NOT ON ANY INVERSTIGATION OF THE REASON WHY THE HEADS WERE WARPED AND DESTROYED THE ENGINE. THE 414 NUMBER IS THE DRIVER. THE 262 NUMBER IS MY NUMBER IN REHAB AND I CAN BE REACHED AT ANY TIME. VERY RESPECTFULLY, TONY
I BOUGHT THIS 2013 HYBRID NEW ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. THERE ARE 2 MAIN ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH THE CAR. FIRST: THE PROBLEM IS THE CAR SOMETIMES GOES ABOUT 3 MPH FOR APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET BEFORE LURCHING WITH GREAT ACCELERATION. I DROVE WITH THE 'ENERGY FLOW' MODE ON THE DISPLAY TO SEE WHAT WAS SHOWING WHEN THIS PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THE DISPLAY WAS SHOWING THE "ENGINE GENERATION/MOTOR DRIVE" (TO DECELERATE THE VEHICLE, ENGINE BRAKING IS USED WHILE THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING IS APPLIED AND ALSO CHARGES THE HYBRID BATTERY. [ENGINE>BATTERY>WHEEL]). THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DECELERATION MODE, BUT SHOULD THIS BE HAPPENING WHEN MY FOOT IS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL? IT HAS OCCURRED WHEN I HAVE SLOWED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND ALSO WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP. IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM APPLYING STEADY PRESSURE OR PUMPING THE PEDAL. THIS CAN BE A HUGE POTENTIAL PROBLEM/ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN IF I AM ATTEMPTING TO TURN OR CROSS A ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE I MAY NOT BE MOVING FAST ENOUGH TO CROSS BEFORE THE TRAFFIC GETS TO ME. EVEN IF THEY WERE OVER A HUNDRED FEET AWAY WHEN I STARTED THE TURN/TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION. SECOND: AS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED BY OTHERS, THERE IS A 'THUMP' FELT AT TIMES WHILE BRAKING. IT IS FELT IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND THROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ALSO FELT BY THE PASSENGER'S THROUGH THEIR SEATS. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT WOULD BE THE FEELING OF BEING REAR-ENDED AND PUSHED FORWARD SEVERAL INCHES. AS DRIVER, MY HEAD IS USUALLY AN INCH OR TWO AWAY FROM THE HEAD REST AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS MY HEAD HITS THE HEADREST OR THE HEADREST HITS MY HEAD. THE BRAKE PEDAL ITSELF IS NOT AFFECTED, AS THERE IS NO FEELING OF LOSING THE BRAKE/NOT SLOWING DOWN. IT'S JUST A 'THUMP' FELT.
DAY AFTER PURCHASE, BEEPS AND NOTIFICATION TO PULL OVER AND CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM. HAD CAR TOWED ONE WEEK LATER CAR WAS RETURNED TO US. DEALER INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY. RUNNING FINE EXCEPT BRAKES MAKE A NOISE WHEN DEPRESSED QUICKLY. MARCH 28TH, 11 MONTHS LATER COMING HOME FROM FLORIDA, DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 LATE AT NIGHT IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC, BEEPS AND NOTIFICATION TO PULL OVER AND CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM. PULLED CAR OVER SHUT OFF. RESTARTED CAR AND CONTINUED DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR 24 HRS. RETURNED TO DEALER THAT WEEK COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH CHARGING SYSTEM. AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE BRAKING SOUND AT DEALERSHIP, BUT STILL MAKING NOISE SPORATICALLY. MAY 15TH, LATE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, STOPPED TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURN, I STARTED TO ACCELERATE, HALF WAY INTO THE TURN, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, BELLS AND NOTIFICATION TO CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM. WITH TRAFFIC COMING TOWARDS ME, I HAD TO SHUT DOWN ENGINE AND RESTART AGAIN. IF ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS SLIGHTLY FASTER I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON OVERNIGHT BUT WENT OFF THE NEXT DAY. RETURNING TO DEALER THIS WEEK. DON'T EXPECT ANY POSITIVE RESULTS AS LAST TIME THEY SAID THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I LOVED MY CAR, HOWEVER DRIVING IT NOW MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS!
REAR TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLIES X 4 {LEFT AND RIGHT TRUNK HOOD ASSEMBLIES AND THE OUTER TURN SIGNAL/BRAKELIGHT ASSEMBLIES) HAVE POOLING OF WATER AND CONDENSATION/DEBRIS BUILDUP INSIDE THE LENS COVERS. ALSO NOTICED CONDENSATION AND LIQUID BUILDUP WITHIN THE LICENSE PLATE ILLUMINATION LENSES. VERY CONCERNING AS THESE ARE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT ARE CONTAINED NEAR THE HIGH-VOLTAGE LITHIUM BATTERY CONTAINED WITHIN THE TRUNK SPACE. *TR
THE SONATA HYBRID HAS A MAJOR FLAW AND IT'S THE GAS MILEAGE. I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET AT LEAST 45 MPG WITH SENSIBLE DRIVING AND THAT WAS A LIE. ON COLD DAMP MORNING AND AFTER A COLD FOG THERE WOULD BE CONDENSATION ALL OVER THE FRONT AND BACK WINDSHIELDS TO THE POINT WHERE WATER DROPLETS WOULD RUN ONTO THE DASHBOARDS AND BACK SEATS. ALSO THE CAR HAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS AT NIGHT ESPECIALLY IN THE COUNTRY. AT 50 MPH YOU OUT RUN YOUR HEAD LIGHTS AND CAN'T SEE FAR ENOUGH AHEAD OF YOU TO STOP IN TIME IF SOMETHING RUNS ACROSS IN FRONT OF YOU. *TR
I'M DROVE ON HWY101S IN SF FOLLOW THE HWY SPEED. WHEN THE CAR AHEAD SLOWDOWN AND STOPPED AND I DID TOO BUT THE CAR BEHIND WON'T STOP AND HIT ME FROM THE HWY SPEED THEN PUSH ME HIT THE FRONT CAR AHEAD AND ANOTHER CAR HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME PUSH HER HIT ME AGAIN AND ANOTHER CAR ALL 5 INVOLVED THIS INCIDENT. I'M THE SECOND ONE. MY CAR WAS DAMAGED THE TRUNK POP UP BEND V SHAPE THE FRONT LID AND BUMPER BEND BUT THEY HAVE NO ANY POSITIONS OF AIRBAG POP UP COME OUT TO SAVE ME AND MY PASSENGER FRONT AND BACK SEAT......UPDATED 03-11-15 *BF *TR UPDATED 9/20/2017*CN
THE BRAKE PEDAL MAKES A NOISE WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE PEDAL. AT TIMES THE PEDAL STICKS MOMENTARILY THEN THE BRAKES WILL GRAB, AS IF I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THE ISSUE WAS LOOKED AT BY THE DEALERSHIP WHO VERIFIED THE, SQUEAK, DUCK SOUND COMING FROM THE PEDAL AREA BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THIS ISSUE WAS BUMPED UP TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE ENGINEERS WHO HAVE NOT "FOUND" A SOLUTION. THE SOUND IS CONSISTENT AND THE SUDDEN BRAKE GRAB OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
KUMHO TIRE SOLUS KH25 215 55 R17 DEVELOPED 2 GOLF BALL SIZED BULGES ON THE TIRE'S OUTSIDE SIDEWALL. I CALLED KUMHO & EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THEM. THEY TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT I MUST HAVE HIT A CURB & IT WOULD BE ROAD HAZARD THEREFORE NOT COVERED. I KNOW THE VEHICLE NEVER HIT A CURB. THEY TOLD ME I CAN TAKE IT TO A DEALER & HAVE THEM INSPECT THE TIRE. THEY SAID 99.9% IT IS THE DRIVERS FAULT. THE NUMBER THEY GAVE ME WAS TO NATIONAL TIRE & BATTERY. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT DEAL WITH KUMHO TIRES. THEY STOP SELLING THEM BECAUSE OF TO MANY PROBLEMS. I CALLED BACK & WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO SEARS. THEY DIDN'T KNOW THE PHONE #.THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT HAS DELAYED ME FROM TAKING MY VACATION TO FLORIDA. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I TOOK MY SONATA HYBRID IN FOR SERVICE. I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT EVERY MORNING I GET INTO THE CAR AND I APPLY THE BRAKES WHEN STARTING, THE BRAKES MAKE A NOISE. IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD RUSTY SPRING THAT SOMEONE IN TRYING TO PUSH DOWN AND IT SQUEAKS. IT DOES NOT MAKE THIS NOISE WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN. ONLY WHEN ITS COLD OR JUST BEING STARTED. THE TECHS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING BUT TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND IF ANY RECALLS CAME IN THEN THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR A LONG TIME. NOT GETTING ANY WORSE AND NOT GETTING BETTER BY ITSELF. IT JUST SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS ON A NEW CAR, PERIOD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING NORTH ON I-95 TO A FAMILY FOURTH OF JULY PARTY THIS PAST SUMMER I STARTED TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY SONATA'S STEERING SYSTEM. I FELT THE STEERING WHEEL GRAB AND HOLD ITSELF IN PLACE FOR AN INSTANT. IN THAT INSTANT I SENSED THAT I HAD TO EXERT EXTRA STRENGTH TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO FORCE IT TO RELEASE ITSELF FROM THE SURPRISING AND FRIGHTENING GRAB. THANKFULLY, THE EXTRA EXERTION ON MY PART RELEASED THE GRAB RIGHT AWAY BUT ANOTHER GRAB OCCURRED WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. I HAD TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY TO VIRGINIA BEACH WITH THIS FEELING OF GRAB AND RELEASE, GRAB AND RELEASE, GRAB AND RELEASE OCCURRING EVERY FEW SECONDS. THE RETURN TRIP BACK HOME ON I-95 TO SOUTH CAROLINA A FEW DAYS LATER WAS JUST AS BAD. THIS STEERING PROBLEM JUST ABOUT DROVE ME TO DISTRACTION. I FELT LUCKY TO GET BACK HOME ALIVE AND WELL. ONCE AT HOME I REALIZED THAT THE SONATA'S STEERING SYSTEM DOES NOT GRAB AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT DOESN'T GRAB IF YOU KEEP THE SPEED BELOW FORTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR, BUT WHENEVER I GET THE SPEED UP TO FIFTY MILES PER HOUR OR HIGHER IT STARTS TO GRAB. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE BUT THEY DIDN'T TAKE IT OUT ON A HIGHWAY SO THEY DIDN'T GET THE CAR'S SPEED UP HIGH ENOUGH AND,THEREFORE, REPORTED THAT THEY DIDN'T FEEL ANY GRABBING. SO I WAS LEFT WITH A FAIRLY NEW SONATA THAT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT OVER FIFTY MILES PER HOUR. I RECENTLY TOOK THE SONATA TO OUR REGULAR GARAGE AND PAID TO HAVE THE WHEELS ROTATED AND ALSO PAID FOR AN ALIGNMENT, BUT THERE WAS NO IMPROVEMENT. I MUST GET THIS STEERING PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR BECAUSE WE ARE DRIVING TO FLORIDA IN EARLY JANUARY AND ONCE AGAIN WILL BE DRIVING ON I-95. *TR
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THE BLIND SPOT IT IS BECOMING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND CHANGE LANES AS THE BLIND SPOT IS NOT AT ALL VISIBLE EVEN IF YOU CHANGE THE SEATING POSITION. I WISH THEY CHANGE THE BLIND SPOT MIRRORS. *TR
DEAR. I HAVE NOT GOT AN INCIDENT, BUT THE BRAKE HAS A PROBLEM. WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES, IT SOUNDS STRANGE. I VISITED THE DEAR SHOP AND THEN THEY CANNOT FIND THE REASON. THE SERVICE CENTER INQUIRES A HYUNDAI HEADQUARTER ABOUT THE REASON. THEY CALLED ME THAT IT IS NO PROBLEM FOR SAFETY AND ARE FINING THE REASON. HOWEVER, I AM SO AFRAID OF DRIVING EVEN THE SAFETY IS FINE. THIS IS THE BRAKE PROBLEM. I JUST LET YOU KNOW THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE FIGURE OUT THIS PROBLEM. *JS
THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD DURING DECELERATION THUS PULLING PRESSURE OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND CAUSING YOU TO PUT EVEN MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES TO COMPENSATE. VEHICLE WILL SLIDE ON ICY ROADS AT THIS POINT. VEHICLE ALSO HAS LITTLE TO NO ACCELERATION ON ELECTRIC MOTOR AFTER THE VEHICLE IS HOT. MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC IS HAZARDOUS SINCE THE VEHICLE CAN TAKE UP TO 7 SECONDS BEFORE IT ACCELERATES ENOUGH TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND CLEAR THE ONCOMING LANE. BOTH PROBLEMS SEEM RELATED. THE FIRST WOULD APPEAR TO BE FREE WHEELING WITH NO ENGINE TYPE BRAKING APPLIED WHILE SWITCHING FROM ENGINE TO ELECTRIC. THE SECOND WOULD BE FROM NO ELECTRIC MOTOR ENGAGEMENT DURING INITIAL ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR SLOW TO TURN MANEUVER. *TR
FIRST REPAIR DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 2/21/14 FOR DRIVERS DOOR LOCK NOT WORKING THE CAR HAD 707 MILES ON IT. I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR FROM ENTERPRISE FOR THE DURATION OF THE REPAIR. THE REPAIR TOOK ONE DAY WHICH THEY REPAIRED THE "LEFT FRONT DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR LATCH ASSEMBLY". I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL STATING MY CAR WAS READY AT 5PM, BUT AS I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC I PICKED THE CAR UP THE NEXT DAY. SECOND REPAIR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WAS ON 6/18/2014 AND THE CAR NOW HAD 5,117 MILES ON IT. I WAS GIVEN A GENESIS TO DRIVE WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING TAKEN CARE OF. I WAS PHONED TWICE THAT DAY TO SAY THEY WERE STILL LOOKING INTO MY CAR AND THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. AT 6PM THAT DAY THEY SAID THEY WERE STILL WORKING ON IT. THIS SERVICE INVOICE NOW SAYS THE FOLLOWING "FOUND LOOSE TERMINAL AT DOOR LATCH LOCK/UNLOCK PIN. TWEAKED (?) DOOR LATCH CONNECTOR TERMINALS AND REASSEMBLED DOOR LOCKS. DOORS WORKING NORMALLY." I PICKED MY CAR UP ON 6/20/2014. ON 6/28/2014 AT WORK WITH THE CAR NOW SHOWING 5406 MILES ON THE CLOCK IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE PHONED THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM I WILL BE THERE MONDAY (6/30/14) WHEN THEY OPEN AT 7AM TO HAVE THIS CAR REPAIRED AGAIN. THEY HAVE NOW HAD THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM. I AM NOW SUING HYUNDAI. *TR
ENGINE SHUT OFF AND BATTERY ONLY LETS YOU GO 1/4 MILE PULLED INTO PARKING LOT TURNED CAR OFF WAITED 5 MINUTES AND CAR STARTED BACK UP. TOOK CAR TO DEALER BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN APRIL THEY HAD CAR FOR 7 DAYS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT. IT STARTED AGAIN ON JUNE17TH THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. *TR
27 DEC 2013: HYBRID BATTERY DRAINED WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND CAR COULD NOT BE ACCELERATED MORE THAN 20 MILES/HR WHILE DRIVING. EVENTUALLY THE CAR STOPPED ON THE ROAD. DASHBOARD SHOWED "PARK SAFELY AND DO NOT DRIVE" WITH LOUD BEEPING WARNING SOUND. TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T CHARGE THE BATTERY. AFTER TOWING TO THE SERVICE, THE CAR STARTED AS NORMAL; THE TECH COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO NOTHING WAS DONE. 16 JAN 2014: THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. AFTER I PARKED THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE HYBRID BATTERY STARTED TO RECHARGE TO A QUARTER STRENGTH ON THE DASHBOARD; STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND CAR JERKED TWICE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE MORE THAN 30 MILES/HR AND EVENTUALLY HAD TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND SAME WARNING ON MY DASH. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN, THE TECH COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE CASE; SUSPECTED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM PROBLEM AND CHANGED BMS CONTROL MODULE.4 FEB 2014: SIMILAR SITUATION. HYBRID BATTERY WOULD NOT CHARGE MORE THAN 1-QUARTER AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 35 M/HR OBTAINED A CASE NUMBER FROM HYUNDAI AND IDENTIFIED A POSSIBLE PROBLEM OF THE HYBRID BATTERY BY THE ENGINEER. NEW HYBRID BATTERY WAS INSTALLED.14 FEB 2014: STARTED THE CAR, THE MAIN SCREEN SHOWED DISCHARGE WARNING FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN THE CAR RUNS NORMAL. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TRIED TO RESTART, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T START. AFTER A COUPLE HOURS, THE CAR SEEMS TO RUNNING NORMAL.THE PROBLEM: HYUNDAI SEEMS TO GIVE US AN ANSWER 'WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS IS A LEMON AND HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ACCEPT IT AND NEGOTIATE WITH US TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. I DO WANT TO SAY THAT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE COMMENDED ON THEIR SERVICE, ITS THE MANAGEMENT ABOVE THEM THAT NEEDS TO GET THINGS DONE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING HOME RETURNING FROM A DOCTORS VISIT AND PULLED INTO A RESTAURANT. WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT I HEARD A SCRAPE OR DRAG UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. I STRAIGHTENED THE WHEELS AND LEFT THE PARKING LOT. I TRAVELED A SHORT DISTANCE AND HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN. I STOPPED AND LOOKED AT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND UNDER THE FENDER. I FOUND THAT A PIECE OF THE PLASTIC UNDERCOVER UNDER THE WHEEL WELL HAD COME LOOSE AND WAS DRAGGING AND PULLED LOOSE. I LOOKED AGAIN AND THE COMPLETE UNDERSIDE PLASTIC MATERIAL OF THE FENDER WELL WAS LOOSE AND THE FENDER HAD SEPARATED FROM THE BUMPER. I ALIGNED THE PIECES UP AND DROVE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN MCDONOUGH, GEORGIA. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THEY SAID HYUNDAI WOULD NOT COVER THIS UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. I QUESTIONED THIS BECAUSE MY WIFE AND I DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THEIR ONE (1) MECHANIC TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT IT HAD TO GO TO THE BODY SHOP AS HE COULD NOT REPAIR IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO SAID THE CAR HAD BEEN HIT IN THE RIGHT FRONT. I QUESTIONED THIS AND HE SAID EVEN A SHOPPING CART IN A PARKING LOT COULD HIT THE FENDER AND CAUSE THE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE BODY SHOP AND THE SUPERVISOR SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FENDER AND BUMPER HAD NO SCRATCHES OR ANY OUTWARD SIGNS OF WHERE IT HAD BEEN HIT. HE SAID THE VEHICLE FENDER AND BUMPER CLIPS THAT HOLD THE FENDER TO THE BUMPER TOGETHER HAD SEPARATED AND BROKE AND LET THE PLASTIC PIECE UNDER THE WHEEL DROP. HE SAID THE DAMAGE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CLIPS WERE BROKEN AND THE BUMPER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS PARKING THE CAR (AFTER TURNING AROUND AND REVERSING) AND AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO EASE INTO THE PARKING SPOT THE BRAKES AND CAR JUST STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES FURTHER AND ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. THE CAR MOVED FORWARD AT A SLOW SPEED AND WENT UP THE CURB, TOPPLED A SMALL TREE AND KNOCKED A PARKING KIOSK OVER ON THE SIDEWALK. FORTUNATELY IT WAS 8:10 AM SO NOBODY WAS WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SOME DAMAGE FROM THE METAL KIOSK AND TIE ROD BROKEN FROM CURB. VERY DISCONCERTING THAT I LOST COMPLETE BRAKE POWER. COULD DO NOTHING AS THE CAR JUST CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD UNTIL AN OBJECT CAUSED IT TO STOP. NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR..... *TR
THE 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID'S SPEEDOMETER REPORTS 5 MPH LESSER THAN THE ACTUAL SPEED. I HAVE TESTED THE SPEEDOMETER AGAINST 3 DIFFERENT RADARS THAT ARE PART OF SOME OF THE SPEED SIGNS IN OREGON. I FIRST REALIZED THIS WHEN I FELT I WAS TRAVELING FASTER THAN WHAT THE SPEEDOMETER REPORTED. *TR
VEHICLE DRIFTS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. WILL NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT, IT PULLS TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT NEEDING CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. TWO ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY THE DEALER WITH NO DEFINITIVE RESULTS. THIS MAKES FOR TIRESOME AND HAZARDOUS DRIVING. *TR
WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR A STOP SIGN OR GOING UP A SLIGHT DRIVEWAY THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER WHEN YOU APPLY THE GAS FOR A FEW SECONDS, AND THEN THE CAR SURGES. WE WERE STOPPED BEHIND A CAR AND WHEN WE WENT TO DRIVE AROUND THEM THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO APPROX 1 MPH WITH THE GAS PEDAL FLAT ON THE FLOOR, THEN THE CAR SURGES. THEN AT OTHER TIMES THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO TELL ME WE ARE DRIVING WITH ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ONE FOOT ON THE GAS. I DO NOT USE MY LEFT FOOT FOR THE BRAKE. I TRIED TAKING THE CAR OUT OF BLUE MODE BUT STILL HAD THE PROBLEM. *TR
