AS YOU STATED ABOVE THE AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT A REASON A DRIVER WOULD LOOSE CONTROL UNLESS YOU HAVE A MERCADES THAT IS LEAKING GAS AND MY KIDS AND PASSANGERS ARE SICK AND PASSING OUT AND SO AM I. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON ALMOST 3 YEARS. GOES TO DEALERSHIP AND THEN SITS BECAUSE THEY NEVER FIX IT. FINALLY A LAW SUIT WITH PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM ENTERED THE CLASS ACTION SUIT NOTHING. TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THEY SAY NOW THE TOXIC GAS LEAKING OUT OF FAULTY A/C UNITS THAT MERCEDES WAS SUED AND CONSUMERS WON BUT NOW WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. SO I NOW HAVE SEVERE ASTHMA MY KIDS NOW HAVE BREATHING ISSUES AND WON'T DRIVE A SICK CAR. A/C UNITS ARE TO BE CONTAINED AND HOLD ANTI-FREEZE THAT IF INHALED AS IT IS LEAKING OUT OF THE NON CONTAINED UNIT IS TOXIC, A CARCINOGEN, SAME TOXIN USED IN NERVE GAS AND IT IS DEADLY AND MERCEDES DOES NOT FIX IT OR CARE. THIS HAS GONE ON FOR YEARS AND IS A NIGHTMARE. THEY MADE A SETTLEMENT BUT THEN THEY DON'T DO WHAT THE JUDGE SET FORTH IN THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE;
Driver's side tire continues to leak air - note low tire pressure even with new tire replacement. Airmatic Suspension failure. Rear airbag suspension airbag. Compression also failed. Several complaints to dealer advising the car was bouncing up and down while in drive. Took vehicle to the shop with suspension complaints at the end of April 2021. We were told they did not find an issue with suspension but saw an issue with the sway bar. This cost $549.00. The week we brought the car home it was still bouncing up and down and we contacted the dealer again and was advised they did not find anything wrong. Within 2 weeks of having the vehicle, I was driving and the vehicle was violently bouncing up and down even traveling at a low level. We took the vehicle back and have not been advised now that they see the malfunction light for the suspension on they realize that's the issue. The suggested cost to repair only the rear is $4k. If the front and rear need repairs it over $7k. The issue is it appears this is a known issue for the Airmatic system and with a vehicle in this price range and under 90k miles - appears to be a issue with manufacturing. I was also advised this repair is no longer covered on their extended warranty.
WE PURCHASED THE 2013 GL 550 FIVE MONTHS AGO. WHEN WE WERE DRIVING HOME THE VEHICLE SHIFTED ITSELF INTO PARK WHILE IN WAS IN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY STOPPED AND VIOLENTLY JERKED THE CAR AND OUR FAMILY WAS INSIDE IN TRAFFIC APPROACHING A FOUR WAY STOP LIGHT. WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE AND PULL OFF THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED ITSELF INTO PARK AGAIN WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT A LIGHT. POLICE WERE CALLED. CAR WAS TOWED. WE'VE SINCE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FAULTY INSTALLATION OF THE EIS FOR THE MODEL YEAR RIGHT BEFORE OURS, 2012. APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED AND WAS PASSED ON, BUT MERCEDES BENZ FAILED TO WARN CONSUMERS NOR ISSUE A RECALL. WE ARE GETTING NO HELP WITH REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH THIS IS AN ONGOING SAFETY ISSUES OCCURRING IN SEVERAL OF THEIR CARS. WHEN ACTIVATION OF THE SUSPENSION LIFT SYSTEM. COMPRESSOR IS COOLING THEN A MALFUNCTION MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE SCREEN. VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY IN THE REAR UP AND DOWN AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS AND OVER ANY SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THIS CONCERNS ME FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER OWNERS WHOM MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. 2013 MERCEDES BENZ GL 450 IS THE MODEL I OWN CURRENTLY AND IVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS AND I'M ALMOST SCARED TO DRIVE IT FOR FEAR OF SOMETHING CATOSTROPHIC HAPPENING. 2013 MERCEDES ROUGH RUNNING AT IDLE, VARIOUS FAULTS STORED FOR INJECTOR QUANTITY COMPENSATION FOR CYLINDER BALANCING. FAULT CODE P1CWF-85. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EVENTUALLY CAME ON. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS FOUND THAT BOTH ENGINE BANK 1 AND 2 CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS WERE FULL OF OIL DUE TO FAILED INTERNAL PACKING OF SENSOR. INSPECTED INJECTOR CONNECTORS AND HAD OIL, O2 SENSORS CONNECTOR HAD OIL, POWER TRAIN CONTROL UNIT FULL OF OIL. IF ENOUGH OIL WAS TO FLOW THROUGH THE ELECTRICAL WIRES TO THE CONTROL UNIT AS SUCH THIS INSTANCE OR SENSOR MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND VEHICLES ABILITY TO DRIVE. IF THE VEHICLE IS ON THE HIGHWAY AND STOPS WORKING MAY ENDANGER OCCUPANTS. ALSO NOTED THAT THE FAILED PART IS A MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE BULLETIN FOR PREVIOUS MALES AND MODELS BUT THIS 2013 GL550 IS NOT INCLUDED EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PART NUMBER IS USED IN THE NEW CARS AS THE PREVIOUS VEHICLES WITH THIS MERCEDES BENZ ACKNOWLEDGED ISSUE. ALSO NOTED THAT THE BODY HARNESS CONNECT TO THE SAME ENGINE CONTROL UNIT WHICH CONTROLS THE SAFETY FUNCTIONS SUCH AS AIRBAGS, SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.*DT*JB
A DEFECTIVE REAR MIDDLE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG ALERT / SIGN COMES ON ONCE I TURN THE ENGINE ON. IT STAYS ON THROUGH OUT THE DRIVE. I SUSPECT THE AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE
THIS CAR HAS LOT OF ISSUES WITH WATER PUMP, RADIATOR LEAK, LOT OF ENGINE PROBLEMS. OIL LEAK IT'S GOT LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. RADIATOR HOSES LEAK. CAR STOPPED ON MASS PIKE GOING TO ALBANY, NY TOOK IT TO BENZ OF ALBANY THEY SAID ENGINE MISFIRES NEEDS ENGINE REPLACEMENT AND IT WOULD COST $47,000 TO REPLACE. VERY VERY BAD ENGINES. I LEFT A VOICEMAIL ON BENZ CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NO ONE CALLED BACK OR SEND ME ANY TYPE OF RECALLS. VERY BAD SERVICE.

AFTER DOING ONLINE RESEARCH, THIS ISSUE IS NOT LIMITED TO GL450. OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPRESSED THE SAME CONCERN IN OTHER MODELS: 2008 C300, 2009 C300, 2015 C300, 07 GL450, 03 GL450.

AT 9:22AM ON THE MORNING OF JANUARY 2, 2019, MY SUV WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT WAS OVERCAST, CALM CONDITIONS, AND AROUND 52. I UNLOCKED MY VEHICLE, GOT IN, STARTED THE ENGINE, AND CLOSED THE DRIVER'S DOOR NORMALLY. ONE SECOND LATER, I HEARD AN EXPLOSION AS THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING HAVEN FALLEN ON THE VEHICLE NOR ANY EVIDENCE THAT ANYONE HAD TAMPERED WITH MY SUV. I HAD LAST DRIVEN THE VEHICLE THE AFTERNOON OF DECEMBER 31, 2018 IN CONDITIONS SIMILAR TO THOSE DESCRIBED ABOVE. I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF MY VEHICLE BEING STRUCK BY ANY OBJECTS IN RECENT YEARS. THIS WAS A SUDDEN AND VERY UNEXPECTED OCCURRENCE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO A FAULTY CYLINDER HEAD; HOWEVER, THE SPARK PLUGS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LATER DIAGNOSED THAT THE NUMBER 5 CYLINDER WAS MISFIRING AND THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THE SUV WAS 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTEE BUT WITH LESS THAN 15K MILES. WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT BECAME ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING. WAS ABLE TO STOP THE SUV IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE WITH RETURN OF STEERING FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE HONOLULU BENZ SERVICE DEPARTMENT GETTING A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK.

HOW MANY COMPLAINTS NHTSA NEEDS TO START INVESTIGATION. THE ISSUE IS MORE WIDELY REPORTED THEN KIA/HYUNDAI ROOF ISSUE.

DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH, A MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL "BLIND SPOT ASSIST INOPERATIVE," AND THE TURN INDICATORS STOPPED WORKING, BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS AND EACH TIME THE DEALER RECOMMENDED AND REPAIRED THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,500.

CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. PROBLEM REPORTED TO YOU, BEFORE! THEY SENT ME TO THREE DEALER, ALL THEY DID WAS ROUTINE CHECKS AND DID NOT ADMIT TO PROBLEM. THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE GM KEY PROBLEM. WHY DIDN'T YOU SURVEY THIS ISSUE AND GET A RECALL?!!

PADS AND ROTORS HAS BEEN CHANGED 3 TIMES AND PROBLEM IS KEEP COMING BACK / 2- VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING : SINCE 11/2012 VEHICLE VIBRATES AT ALL DRIVING SPEED 35-70 AND VARIES OF THE ROADS. HAS BEEN TO SERVICES 8 TIMES . ALL TIRES HAS BEEN REPLACED AT 7K MILES. VEHICLE SYMPTOMS GETS BETTER AFTER ROAD FORCE BALANCE BUT RETURNS AFTER FEW HUNDRED MILES. MB USA HAS DECLINED THE REPAIR! 3- ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS; DRIVER SIDE LUMBAR SUPPORT . REAR DOOR COULD NOT BE CLOSED , COOLING SYSTEM HOSE PROBLEM , KEY FOBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED , AC CONTROL DOES NOT ADJUST AUTOMATICALLY IN AUTO POSITION. PRE SAFE COLLUSION SYSTEM PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 MERCEDES BENZ GL450. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECOND ROAD SEAT HEAD RESTS WOULD NOT ALLOW HIS CHILD TO BE SECURED PROPERLY IN A BOOSTER SEAT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE HEAD RESTS WOULD CAUSE THE CHILD TO BE PUSHED TOWARD THE SIDE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WOULD NOT SECURE THE CHILD IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,500.

MY CHILD, WHO IS 11, CAN NOT SIT IN THE REAR SEATS OF THIS TRUCK WITHOUT THE SHOULDER HARNESS SLIDING ACROSS HIS NECK, A TERRIBLE SITUATION SHOULD AN ACCIDENT OCCUR. HIS HEAD IS FORCED DOWNWARD BY THE HEAD REST IN EITHER THE UP OR DOWN POSITION. GIVEN THE POSITION OF THE HEAD REST, EVEN A BOOSTER SEAT IS INEFFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH "POWER EASY ENTRY" OPTION WHICH MAKES REMOVING THE HEADRESTS IMPOSSIBLE (VEHICLES WITHOUT THIS OPTION HAVE REMOVABLE HEAD RESTS). THE DEALER, AFTER SEEING MY CHILD IN THE SEAT, ALSO AGREED THAT THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY SO, AT ITS EXPENSE, REMOVED SOME PARTS OF THE "POWER EASY ENTRY" OPTION SO WE COULD REMOVE THE HEADRESTS. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE 2ND ROW HEADRESTS DO NOT FULLY EXTEND/RETRACT UPWARD AND ALSO CANNOT BE REMOVED! WE ARE BEING TOLD BY MBUSA THAT THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE "EASY ENTRY 2ND ROW OPTION" AND THAT THOSE HEADRESTS HAVE LIMITED CAPABILITIES AS FAR AS RAISING/LOWERING/REMOVING. AS A RESULT CHILDREN SITTING IN THE 2ND ROW HAVE THEIR HEADS PUSHED FORWARD (BECAUSE OF THE HEADRESTS) WHICH IS CAUSING MAJOR NECK DISCOMFORT AND IS A REAL HAZARD FOR CHILDREN. THIS ALSO CANNOT BE CURED BY RAISING THE HEADREST BECAUSE CHILDREN OF A CERTAIN SIZE, PROBABLY AGES 10-16, AREN'T SHORT ENOUGH TO FIT "UNDER" THE HEADREST AND AREN'T TALL ENOUGH TO HAVE THEIR HEAD/NECK FIT PROPERLY ON THE HEADREST. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN OPTION WHERE THESE VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH THE "EASY ENTRY 2ND ROW OPTION", CAN HAVE THEIR 2ND ROW HEADRESTS REMOVED WHEN CHILDREN OF A CERTAIN HEIGHT WILL BE SITTING THERE. THIS IS REALLY A BIG PROBLEM AND A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT MBUSA NEEDS TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY. I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY MISSED THIS IN THEIR SAFETY TESTS. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW- THE HEADRESTS IN THE SECOND ROW ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE. THEY ONLY HAVE TWO POSITIONS: FULLY UP OR FULLY DOWN. IN EITHER OF THESE POSITIONS, MY 11 YEAR OLD CHILD'S HEAD IS IN A CLEARLY UNSAFE POSITION. IN THE DOWN POSITION, HIS BACK IS PUSHED FORWARD AND HIS NECK PUSHED DOWN ON THE SEATBELT. IN THE UP POSITION, THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADREST HITS THE VERY TOP OF THE BACK OF HIS HEAD AND, AGAIN, PUSHES HIS HEAD FORWARD AT A SEVER ANGLE. I HAVE TRIED TO RESOLVE THIS WITH THE DEALER AND MERCEDES BENZ USA BUT THEY HAVE STOPPED REPLYING TO ME. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE WHO IS APPROXIMATELY THE SIZE OF MY SON (4' 9"). I WOULD LIKE TO SEND YOU PICTURES OF MY SON SEATED WITH THE TWO HEADREST POSITIONS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING FREEWAY 5N (12/20/12) ABOUT 200 MILES N OF LA WITH MY DISTRONIC PLUS SET FOR 79 MPH WHEN THE DISTRONIC QUIT CAUSING THE CAR TO SUDDENLY DECELERATE AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING. A CAR THAT WAS FOLLOWING (TOO) CLOSELY HAD TO BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ME. I RECEIVED 3 ERROR MESSAGES SAYING DISTRONIC PLUS INOPERATIVE, ACTIVE LANE KEEPING ASSIST INOPERATIVE AND ACTIVE BLIND SPOT ASSIST INOPERATIVE. MY MANUAL HAS ERROR MESSAGES THAN CAN OCCUR BUT DID NOT SHOW THE ERROR MESSAGES I RECEIVED ON THE DASH READ-OUT. ON 1/9/13 THE DISTRONIC FAILED AGAIN IN THE SAME WAY WITH THE SAME MESSAGES. I TOOK THE CAR TO MERCEDES ON 1/17/13 FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER FOUND "NO RELATED FAULT CODES PRESENT". I HAVE ASKED MERCEDES REPEATEDLY IF THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AND THEY WILL NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION. AND THEY HAVE NOT ANSWERED WHY MY ERROR MESSAGES ARE NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE IN THEIR MANUALS. ON A TEST DRIVE WITH A SERVICE TECH ON 3/21/13 THE DISTRONIC FAILED TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME UPON A PARKED CAR AND ALSO A CAR IN THE DRIVING LANE. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES. THE SERVICE TECH SUPERVISOR DROVE THE CAR AND HAD THE EXACT EXPERIENCE. ON APRIL 4, 2013 I HAD AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY CAR DRIVEN BY A FACTORY REP. THE MERCEDES FACTORY TECHNICAL SPECIALIST AND THE PENSKE SHOP SUPERVISOR DROVE AND TESTED MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP OR SOUND A TONE WHEN COMING UP ON STOPPED VEHICLES OR CARS IN THE DRIVING LANE WHEN THE DISTRONIC PLUS WAS ACTIVATED WHICH IS NOT HOW IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK. NOT KNOWING THE CAUSE THE MB FST NOTED ON MY WORK ORDER OF APRIL 4, 2013: 5442 MB FTS TO REVIEW. I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM MERCEDES ON THESE ISSUES OTHER THAN A BUY BACK OFFER THAT STATES THAT MY CLAIMS ARE "DOUBTFUL" WHICH IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. THEIR RESPONSE IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND INSULTING. I WANT MY CAR FIXED SO IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE.
