WAS DRIVING HOME ONE DAY AFTER TAKING MY DAD ABOUT 45 MINS AWAY WAS DRIVING AS USUAL AND THE CAR DIED HAD TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD PUT IN PARK AND RESTART. HAS DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES AFTER WE HAVE HAD IN AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE. SENT ME HOME WITH AN UNSAFE CAR FOR THE 4TH TIME. TRIED TAKING CAR BACK TO WHERE I BOUGHT AS ISSUE HAPPENED ON FEB 6 21 AND I PURCHASED ON JAN 27 21 GOING TO CHANGE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEXT WEEK AND SEE IF THATS WHAT IT IS. PLEASE HELP I AM STUCK WITH A 23000 LOAN FOR A CAR I CANT DRIVE SAFELY OR CONFIDENTLY!
THE REAR SUN SHADE WHICH EXTENDS AND RETRACTS TO COVER THE BACK WINDOW OF MY AVALON HAS A FAULT WHICH CAUSES IT TO GET STUCK IN THE EXTENDED POSITION, COVERING THE REAR WINDOW. THIS DRASTICALLY REDUCES THE VISIBILITY OUT THE REAR WINDOW AND THERE IS NO OBVIOUS OR SIMPLE FIX FOR THE ISSUE. I HAVE FOUND ONLINE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. BEFORE THE SHADE GOT STUCK, IT WOULD RANDOMLY EXTEND OR RETRACT DURING HOT DAYS, WHICH SEEMS TO BE DUE TO A FAULTY RELAY. THIS IS CLEARLY A POOR DESIGN WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND ANYONE BEHIND THE VEHICLE WHILE BACKING UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSSED THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE AHEAD STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE STOP BUT THE VEHICLE BEHIND HIM WAS UNABLE TO STALLED CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF VEHICLE. WHICH CAUSED THE FRONT OF THE FRONT OF THE CONTACT VEHICLE TO RUN IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AHEAD OF HIM. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, AND NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FROM VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTATINED BACK PAIN, AND BUMP ON THE HEAD AND NECK STRAIN , THE CONTACT DAUGHTER SUSTAINED CHEST INJURY AND HIS SON HAD TOOTH INJURY CAUSING BLEEDING FROM THE MOUTH. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHER INJURIES FROM THE OTHER DRIVERS. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE WAS RECEIVED AT THE SCENE BUT THE CONTACT DECLINE GOING TO THE HOSPTIAL TIL THE NEXT DAY. THE VEHILCE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DEEMED THE VEHICLE WAS TOTAL LOSS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
I JUST PURCHASED A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON FROM CARMAX. DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS OF DRIVING I HAD OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING. ONE. THE REAR WINDOW IS DISTORTED AND WILL NOT COME CLEAN NO MATTER WHAT I ATTEMPT TO USE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A CLEAR VISIBILITY. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED THAT WHILE IN A STOP POSITION, WHEN BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND REAPPLY TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE A SEVEN DAY RETURN POLICY NO QUESTIONS ASKED. BUT I REALLY LOVE THIS CAR IN BEEN WAITING TO FIND THAT PARTICULAR COLOR EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR WHICH IS BLACK LEATHER. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY RECALL OR OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS.
CAR STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH A DELAYED ENGAGEMENT OR SLIPPAGE WHEN SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR. THIS USUALLY HAPPENED ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED. IT THEN BEGAN TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER NORTHTOWN TOYOTA AMHERST, NY AND THEY CHANGED THE FLUID AND UPDATED SOFTWARE. CAR RAN OK FOR 2 WKS, THEN STARTED SLIPPING AGAIN A FEW TIMES PER WEEK WITH A DELAY WHEN SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR. THIS HAPPENS AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED. TOOK CAR INTO CONTINENTAL TRANSMISSION 909 HERTLE AVE, BUFFALO NY WHERE THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND PULLED THE TRANSMISSION OUT AND FOUND THAT THE UTILITY PUMP HAD FAILED AND THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE GEARS AND OTHER PARTS. OPTIONS WERE A REBUILD ($3800USD) OR REPLACEMENT NEW TRANSMISSION ($6200USD). CURRENTLY HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. CAR HAS 22,300 MILES ON IT, IS OUT OF WARRANTY (7 YRS OLD) AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REBUILT/REPLACED.
THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY. REAR SUNSHADE RANDOMLY DEPLOYED AND IS PERMANENTLY STUCK IN THE UP POSITION COMPLETELY BLOCKING REAR VISIBILITY. SUNSHADE IS SUPPOSED TO GO DOWN WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN REVERSE, THIS FUNCTION NO LONGER WORKS FURTHER INHIBITING SAFE VEHICLE MANEUVERING. THE REAR FACING BACKUP CAMERA HAS A STATEMENT SAYING TO NOT RELY ON THE BACKUP CAMERA WHEN BACKING UP, THIS NO LONGER AN OPTION FOR ME AS I CAN NO LONGER CLEARLY SEE OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW. NIGHT TIME REVERSING IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE WITH ANY DEGREE OF SAFETY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AS THEY REPLACED A RELAY IN THE SUNSHADE IN MODEL YEARS AFTER 2014 THAT SEEMS TO HAVE REMEDIED THIS ISSUE. THERE IS NO WAY MANUALLY LOWER THE SUNSCREEN. THERE'S NO WAY TO EASILY SWAP OUT THE DEFECTIVE RELAY. THERE'S NO WAY TO DISCONNECT THE SUNSHADE FROM THE WIRING HARNESS. THERE ISN'T AN INDEPENDENT FUSE FOR THE SUNSHADE THAT CAN BE REMOVED. THE SUNSHADE APPEARS TO BE ON A FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, BRAKING SYSTEM AND CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. BY REMOVING THE FUSE THIS WOULD MAKE MY VEHICLE EVEN LESS SAFE THE IT ALREADY IS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING AND CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE STOPPED SHORT AT A YELLOW STOP LIGHT AT 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND TOTALED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER TOYOTA WALNUT CREEK (2100 N BROADWAY, WALNUT CREEK, CA 94596 925-357-3700) STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK OVER THE CLAIM AND TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE REAR SUNSHADE IS STUCK IN THE 'UP' (EXTENDED) POSITION, GREATLY HINDERING VIEW TO THE REAR, BOTH WITH REAR-VIEW MIRROR AND WHEN DRIVER TURNS HEAD TO THE REAR. THIS DEVICE IS DESIGNED TO AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT FROM 'UP' POSITION EVERY TIME THE CAR IS SHIFTED TO "REVERSE" GEAR, SO AS TO NOT HINDER REAR VIEWS. IT WORKED FINE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT LAST MONTH IT BECAME STUCK IN THE EXTENDED POSITION, AND CANNOT BE RETRACTED. THIS IS A PROBLEM AT ALL TIMES; BUT IS ESPECIALLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION AT NIGHT, WHEN DARKNESS HINDERS VIEWS. FROM ONLINE SEARCHING, IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS VERY FREQUENTLY, AND MOST COMMENTERS SAY IT'S NOT WORTH FIXING, BECAUSE REPLACEMENT UNITS DEVELOP THE SAME PROBLEM. REMOVING THE UNIT IS MY PREFERRED APPROACH. BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT SEVERAL HOURS OF LABOR ARE REQUIRED, AS THE REAR SEAT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. THIS IS NOT THE RESULT OF A MOVING CRASH; IT HAPPENED SPONTANEOUSLY, AND IS NOW AN ISSUE 100% OF THE TIME. *TR

THE SUBJECT VEHICLES MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) FROM A SPECIFIC SUPPLIER DESIGNED TO RECEIVE SIGNALS FROM CRASH SENSORS AND DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS. THE ECU MAY NOT HAVE ADEQUATE PROTECTION AGAINST CERTAIN ELECTRICAL NOISE THAT CAN OCCUR IN CERTAIN CRASHES, SUCH AS SEVERE UNDERRIDE CRASHES. THIS CAN LEAD TO INCOMPLETE OR NONDEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS AND/OR SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS.

ON MARCH 7, 2020 THE DRIVER ENTERED A PARKING LOT OF A RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT. THE DRIVER, USING THE BRAKES AND TRAVELING AT LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR, TURNED INTO A PARKING SPACE. AS THE DRIVER NEGOTIATED THE TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED HEADFIRST INTO A RETAIL SIGNAGE POLE. DESPITE DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AS HARD AS POSSIBLE, THE DRIVER COULD NOT STOP THE CAR ONCE THE CAR SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED. THE CAR WOULD HAVE LANDED IN A BUSY FOUR-LANE ROAD, IF IT HAD NOT CRASHED INTO THE SIGNAGE POLE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO FATALITY. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND THERE WAS SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE TO THE RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT. IT WAS TRULY A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE FOR THE DRIVER.
02/06/2020 NHTSA COMPLAINT: 2013 TOYOTA AVALON HYBRID LIMITED, REAR WINDOW SUNSHADE ASSEMBLY FAILURE, COMPLETE AND TOTAL, IN THE 'UP' POSITION AND/OR IN THE 'DOWN' POSITION. WHEN STUCK UP, THE FAILURE OBSTRUCTS REAR VIEW AT NIGHTTIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE SUNSHADE IS DESIGNED TO AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT INTO THE 'DOWN' POSITION WHEN THE CAR IS PUT IN REVERSE, BUT IF THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED, THE SUNSHADE WILL MAKE A LOUD GRINDING SOUND FOR ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS WHILE THE SUNSHADE ATTEMPTS (AND FAILS) TO RETRACT INTO THE 'DOWN' POSITION. IT WILL ALSO MAKE THE SOUND EVEN IF THE SUNSHADE IS ALREADY RETRACTED. IF THE SHADE IS ALREADY DOWN/RETRACTED AND I SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE, THE GRINDING NOISE STARTS IMMEDIATELY, AND THE SHADE DOES NOT MOVE (GO UP). BUT IF I PRESS THE ACTIVATE BUTTON, THE SHADE WILL START TO EXTEND, AND IF I CAN PRESS THE ACTIVATE BUTTON AGAIN BEFORE THE SHADE IS FULLY EXTENDED, IT WILL RETRACT (AND BEGIN ANOTHER 20 SECOND CYCLE OF GRINDING) AND STAY DOWN. WHILE STOPPED OR IN MOTION, PRESSING THE ACTIVATE BUTTON RAISES THE SHADE (IF IT WAS DOWN OR RETRACTED), BUT NOT WITHOUT THE 20 SECONDS OF LOUD GRINDING NOISE. IF THE SHADE IS UP/EXTENDED AND YOU PRESS THE ACTIVATE BUTTON, THE SHADE WILL NOT RETRACT/GO DOWN, BUT THE GRINDING NOISE WILL BEGIN. IF THE SHADE IS UP/EXTENDED THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT GO DOWN IS TO PRESS THE ACTIVATE BUTTON AND, WHILE THE GRINDING NOISE IS PRESENT, SIMULTANEOUSLY GO TO THE BACK SEAT SO YOU CAN REACH THE SHADE AND MANUALLY PUSH ONE OF THE VERTICAL BARS TOWARD THE CENTER; THEN THE SHADE RETRACTS FULLY AND CONTINUES GRINDING FOR ANOTHER 20 SECOND CYCLE. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT IS CONTINUOUS AND THE GRINDING NOISE IS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.
SINCE 2016 THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN VERY SOFT AND SOMETIMES WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE IT GOES FAR ENOUGH THAT MY FOOT HITS THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY CHECK THE BRAKES AND THEY ARE OK BUT TO THIS DAY THEY ARE STILL SOFT AND THIS COULD CAUSE A POTENTIAL PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DID NOT RETRACT DURING THE IMPACT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S HEAD STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED RIGHT HAND, MULTIPLE LACERATIONS ON HIS FOREHEAD THAT REQUIRED 29 STITCHES, NECK PAIN, WHIPLASH, AND A CONCUSSION. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE REAR WINDOW SHADE AUTOMATICALLY RAISED ITSELF AND IS STUCK IN THE EXTENDED POSITION. IT MAKES A LOUD SOUND FOR ~20 SECONDS WHENEVER THE CAR IS PUT INTO REVERSE OR WHENEVER YOU ATTEMPT TO RETRACT THE SHADE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT TO OBSERVE TRAFFIC THROUGH THE REARVIEW MIRROR, PARTICULARLY AT NIGHT.
HEADLINER AT THE TOP OF THE REAR WINDOW IS FALLING DOWN MAKING IT A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE LOOKING IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR.
2013 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED A CRASH INTO A WALL AND ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIBAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER AND TO PASSENGER RECEIVED MINOR CUTS AND BRUISES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JS
MY VEHICLE WHILE HOLDING THE BRAKE (STATIONARY) AT A STOP SIGH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND HIT THE BACK OF THE CAR IN FRONT.. FOR 5 DAYS IT WORKED AND THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY IT ACCELERATED AGAIN ( IN MOTION) WHILE PARKING IN THE HANDICAP SPACE AT IDLE SPEED AND BRAKES. TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC. SENT ME A LETTER THAT STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THEIR INSPECTOR CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THE CAR WORKED GREAT AND THE MASTER WARNING SIGNAL WAS NOT FLASHING NOR BUZZING AND HE WOULD SEND ME A COPY OF THE COMPUTER PRINT OUT BUT IT WAS NEVER SENT. I DID GET SOME KIND OF A RECORD BUT IT COULD NOT BE COPIED, I TOOK A PICTURE OF IT BUT IT IS IN SOME TYPE CODE( A COMPUTER FILE) THE TEST CONSISTED OF A ACCELERATION AND STOPPING TEST 22 DAYS AFTER THE 1ST INCIDENT, THE CAR WORKED WELL FOR THE DAYS BETWEEN THE INCIDENTS. THE MASTER WARNING SIGNAL WAS FLASHING AND BUZZING, INSTRUCTIONS WAS TO STOP THE CAR AND HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER THEY DESCRIBED ONE INCIDENT , I DON'T KNOW WHICH INCIDENT THEY CHECKED FOR THERE WERE TWO INCIDENTS 5 DAYS APART. THE REPORT IS A SHAM I CAN SEND YOU A COPY OF THEIR LETTER. TEXT A COPY OF THIS COMPUTER INFO OR FORWARD THE E-MAIL WITH THE COMPUTER INFO THAT I COULD NOT COPY WITH MY COPIER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THE COMPUTER INFO.. *JS
HEADLINER NEAR THE REAR WINDOW IS FALLING DOWN BLOCKING PART OF THE REAR VIEW FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR.
THE REAR WINDOW SHADE (WHICH SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO DOWN WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE) WAS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE CLEARLY WHEN BACKING UP ALSO AT NIGHT. TOYOTA SAID IT WAS NOT WARRANTIED AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COAST $1400 TO REPLACE A BAD MOTOR EVEN THOUGH I SAID IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. IN THE END I PAID $395.58 TO HAVE THE MOTOR DISCONNECTED SO I COULD SEE CLEARLY OUT THE BACK WINDOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED AND THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS TIMES AND SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF DES MOINES (1650 SE 37TH ST, GRIMES, IA 50111, (515) 276-4911) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE INJUNCTION WITH THE LEFT TURN SINGLE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW PRIVACY SCREEN WAS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION; THEREFORE, BLOCKING HIS VISIBILITY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE. THE REAR RETRACTABLE SUNSHADE WENT UP AND LOCKED IN PLACE AND WILL NOT RETRACT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. AT NIGHT IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE ANY VEHICLES BEHIND YOU. BACKING UP BECOMES A PROBLEM AS WELL FOR IT BECOMES HARD TO SEE PEDESTRIANS AS THEY PASS BEHIND YOU IN PARKING LOTS. VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT AND I HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING.
ECU AND PCS SWITCH TO CONTROL VEHICLE'S SPEED, WILL SUDDENLY REDUCE SPEED ON HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC ( VERY DANGEROUS) AND VEHICLE WILL ALMOST COME TO STOP WITHOUT WARNING! WARRANTY REPAIRED ON 7-26-16 AT DEALERSHIP, DOING SAME THING AGAIN, SAID NOT COVERED UNDER ORIGINAL RECALL VEHICLE, WARRANTY EXPIRED. HELP...DANGEROUS SITUATION, VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX...SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE...ADVISE PLEASE. VEHICLE BEING OPERATED ON BUSY HIGHWAY STARTED MED AUGUST O PRESENT 1/01/19 ON-GOING, BACK TO DEALER +++TIMES+++
MY REAR WINDOW SHADE HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. IT IS IN THE UP POSITION AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE BEHIND ME UNLESS FULL SUN IS PRESENT. THIS IS A CONSTANT SITUATION.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY CAR BY BACKING INTO THE PARKING SPACE. AS I WAS GOING FORWARD TO POSITION THE CAR BEFORE BACKING UP INTO THE SPACE, MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I HAD TO QUICKLY STEP ON THE BRAKES BEFORE IT SLAMMED INTO A TREE. EVEN NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS A SURGE FORWARD WHILE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR. I AM REALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, IT INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A CURB AND PLOWED INTO A GARDEN AREA COVERED WITH MULCH BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THERE WAS NO CRASH OR INJURIES INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THE REAR POWER SUNSHADE, WHICH IS STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON THE LIMITED MODEL, RAISES ON ITS OWN AND WON'T GO BACK DOWN CAUSING LOW VISIBILITY. THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY LOWER IT EITHER
REAR WINDOW IS DISTORTED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE CLEARLY, WHILE SUNLIGHT DISABLES THE BACK UP CAMERA SO I'M NOT ABLE TO CLEARLY IDENTIFY PEDESTRIANS. I'VE OWNED 5 TOYOTAS SINCE 2005 BUT THIS ONE IS THE WORST AND UNSAFE VEHICLE I'VE EVER OWNED.
2013 TOYOTA AVALON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SMELL OF COMBUSTION GAS THAT COMES INTO CABIN OF VEHICLE UPON ACCELERATION. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT PROBLEM WAS NOT RECOGNIZED IN THE TECHNICAL MANUAL; THEREFORE, THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. HEADLINER AT TOP OF REAR GLASS IS DROOPING WHERE THE HEADLINER MEETS, AND HAS DEVELOPED A CREASE AT A POINT IN THE CENTER, RESTRICTING VISIBILITY OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW. IT IS A DEFECT AND THE DEALER (NORTHTOWN TOYOTA - AMHERST, NY) WILL NOT REPLACE/REPAIR AS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. CONTACTED TOYOTA TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, AND THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED.
IN 2016 OF AUGUST I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA (CASE#1611260024112616) IN REFERENCE TO A TORQUE COVERTER ISSUE THAT HAS PLAQUED 2012 CAMRYS , AT THIS POINT I TOOK CAR INTO DEALER MANY OCASSIONS , BUT THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT IT THEIR FAULT, A 2300 DOLLAR PROBLEM .
LED REAR TAILLIGHT DIODES ARE NOT WORKING COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN PARKING LOT. WHILE CHANGING A FLAT TIRE, THE JACK COLLAPSED. THAT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO FALL TO THE GROUND.
THE MAIN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE I NOTICED ON MARCH 10 2017AND SCHEDULED AN APOINTMENT ON MARCH 15 2017. IS THE HEADLINER HAS SEPARATED AND FALLING DOWN BEHIND MY MOONROOF OR SUNROOF OPENING LEAVING A GAP. PUSH IT BACK UP AND IT POPS BACK LOOSE. IT LOOKS LIKE THE TWO DUAL LOCK FASTENERS HAVE FAILED ON BOTH SIDES. THEY LOOK MORE LIKE STICK ON PADS TRYING TO HOLD UP SOMETHING THAT IS TOO HEAVY. PER THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN THE BULLENTIN PERTAINING TO THIS REPAIR CALLS FOR REPLACEMENT OF DUAL LOCK FASTENERS AND THE ADDITIONAL OF A MAGNET AFFIXED TO THE HEADLINER. REPAIR PROCEDURE REQUIRES 3 HOURS FOR PREP, OPERATION STEPS AND CURING OF EPOXY FOR $300.00 FIX. WITH 18,235 MILES ON MY CAR IT SHOULDN'T BE COMING APART NOW. IF YOU KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM WHY DIDN'T YOU INFORMED THE CUSTOMERS BEFORE INVESTING BECAUSE I WOULD OF LEFT IT ON THE LOT. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO SPEND MONEY FOR A WORKAROUND THAT DOESN'T WORK. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BESIDE YOU CAN'T FIX IT OR HAVEN'T FOUND THE RIGHT WORKAROUND.

TAKATA RECALL A RECALL WAS MADE ON THIS VEHICLE IN OCTOBERT OF 2015 REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILBLE NEARLY HAD FOUR BAD ACCIDENTS ON A HIGHWAY GOING TO CHICAGO THE RADAR CRUISE CONTROL IS SUPPOSED TO SLOW THE CAR WHEN YOU GET TO CLOSE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. ON CERTAIN OCCASION THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN.
WHILE DRIVING WESTBOUND ON THE MUSKOGEE TURNPIKE (HWY 351), AT MILE MARKER 20, THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF, VEHICLE STABILITY ICON CAME ON, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. THE CAR ALSO LOST POWER AND RAN ROUGH. PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF VEHICLE. AFTER RESTARTING, THE CAR RAN FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, OCTOBER 3RD AND OCTOBER 17TH IN 2016. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A KEYLESS REMOTE. ADDITIONALLY, THIS HAPPENED NEXT TO A CELL PHONE TOWER ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT DOES NOT OCCUR WHILE TRAVELING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
DYNAMIC CRUISE CONTROL TURN ITSELF OFF OR APPLIES BRAKES THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ON TANGENT SECTIONS WITH NO VEHICLES IN FRONT - HIGHWAY SPEED (70 MPH). THERE IS A SERIES OF BEEPS AND THE CAR SLOWS GRADUALLY OR ABRUPTLY. DASHBOARD INDICATOR SHOWS THERE IS A VEHICLE IN FRONT BUT NO VEHICLE IS PRESENT - FALSE POSITIVE. TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA DEALER AND HE STATED THAT WHEN PCS WAS DISABLED IT WOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT. RETURNED TO TOYOTA DEALER - HE CHECKED WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. PROBLEM NORMALLY OCCURS ON LONGER TRIPS AFTER DRIVING 2-3 HOURS. DYNAMIC CRUISE CANNOT BE RESET FOR AN HOUR OR TWO. YOU MUST EITHER DRIVE MANUALLY OR USE NORMAL CRUISE CONTROL MODE FOR AN HOUR OR TWO AND THEN YOU CAN RETURN TO DYNAMIC CRUISE CONTROL. ERROR HAS NOW OCCURED AT LEAST 6 TIMES SINCE PCS HAS BEEN DISABLED AND 3X BEFORE IT WAS DISABLED. DATE BELOW IS THE LATEST OCCURENCE.
IN 2013 I BOUGHT A TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED SEDAN. BEFORE THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED, A CLIP HOLDING THE DRIVERS FLOOR MAT IN PLACE BROKE. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED AND THE REASON IT WAS NOT IS BECAUSE 'I AM GETTING IN AND OUT OF MY CAR THE WRONG WAY' THEY PUT THE CLIP BACK IN BUT DID NOT REPAIR THE UNDERLYING CARPET ISSUE. I ASKED FOR THEM TO SHOW ME A WRITTEN MANUAL OR TO AT LEAST DEMONSTRATE WHAT IT IS I WAS DOING WRONG AND I ALSO ASKED IF THEY WERE WATCHING ME GET IN AND OUT OF MY CAR FOR THEM TO HAVE THIS INFORMATION. THEY WERE UNABLE TO ANSWER ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS BUT STILL REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE. FLASH FORWARD AND I GET A PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM RECALL. TOYOTA HAS NO SOLUTION SO THEY TURN OFF THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. NOW I HAVE NO COLLISION MITIGATION WHEN THE FLOOR MAT CLIP COMES LOSE AGAIN. THE MAT IS UNDER THE BREAK PEDAL AND I CANNOT FULLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF SO NO HELP THERE. I MANAGED TO REACH DOWN AND PULL THE FLOOR MAT OUT FROM UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL AND STOP INCHED AWAY FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT TOYOTA HAS NEEDLESSLY PUT MY WELFARE AT RISK AND TRIED TO BLAME ME, AND THE WAY I INGRESS AND EGRESS THE VEHICLE, ADDITIONALLY IT HAS BEEN NEARLY A YEAR SINCE THEY TURNED OFF MY PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM. I PAID $4000 IN UPGRADE FEES TO GET THAT SYSTEM.
PCS RECALL NOV 2015. VEHICLE TAKEN IN AND TEMPORARY BYPASS MADE (5 FEB 2016). RECEIVED WORD IN JUNE THAT A FIX WAS AVAILABLE. WAS TOLD PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS AUG AND PARTS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I WAS TOLD NOT TO TAKE LONG TRIPS UNTIL IT IS FIXED. UNACCEPTABLE

TWO RELATED PROBLEMS. FIRST, SIX MONTHS AGO, RODENTS GOT INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHEWED INTO THE INSULATED LINER OF THE HOOD. FRAGMENTS WERE DANGLING INTO ENGINE WHEN I FOUND IT BEFORE ANY PROBLEMS BUT REPAIR WAS $400+. LAST WEEK, FILLING GASTANK, A GALLON OF FUEL SPILLED ON GROUND IMMEDIATELY. ATTENDANT SUPERVISING STATION SPOTTED IT AND HIT THE CUTOFF. DEALER FOUND THAT RODENT HAD CHEWED HOLE IN FILLER TUBE. FOR 35 YEARS, I HAVE PARKED MANY CARS IN THIS RURAL NEIGHBORHOOD WITH WILDLIFE. MANY SQUIRRELS AND CHIPMUNKS. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL THIS VEHICLE. ONE EPISODE OF ROGUE RODENT UNDER THE HOOD MIGHT HAPPEN. TWO IN LESS THAN A YEAR, AT BOTH ENDS OF THE CAR, BOTH IN TEMPERATE WEATHER MAKES ME WONDER IF THERE IS SOMETHING IN THESE MATERIALS THAT ATTRACTS RODENTS. THESE WEREN'T CATASTROPHIC BUT BOTH EVENTS HAD THE POTENTIAL FOR GREAT CHAOS. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF THE REPAIRS IF YOU NEED THEM.

CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) HAS BEEN MEASURED IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING, WHEN THE ENGINE IS UNDER LOAD. ALSO, THE SMELL OF ENGINE COMBUSTION FUMES IS INCLUDED WITH THE CO. TOYOTA HAS DETERMINED THAT IT IS NOT A "REPAIRABLE CONDITION". TECHNICAL REPAIR MANUALS DO NOT LIST THE CONDITION, THEREFORE NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE. TOYOTA HAS NOT HONORED ITS WARRANTY. I HAVE INCURRED A FINANCIAL LOSS. TO DATE, TOYOTA HAS NOT PROVIDED A SOLUTION TO THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. A LETTER WITH DETAILS HAS BEEN SENT TO NHTSA, DATED 1/26/2016.
SIDEWALL OF TIRE SHOWED A BUBBLE AFTER 24,000 MILES ON A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON DISCOVERED BY DEALER ON ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. CONTACTED MICHELIN AND THEY SENT ME TO A DEALER THAT BUMPED UP THE PRICE $25 OVER THE PRICE THE DEALER QUOTED AND ONLY OFFERED 20% CREDIT. I BELIEVE THE SIDEWALL IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE PHOTOS THAT I CAN SEND. THESE TIRES ARE A DANGER TO THE REINING PUBLIC AND NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE DEATH OR A SERIOUS INJURY RESULTS FROM THE SIDEWALL.

ROAD NOISE VERY LOUD AND DISTRACTING. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATING ON MY OWN I FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS COMING FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT OUTSIDE MIRRORS. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND NO ISSUES.SO I CAME BACK HOME AND DID SOME RESEARCH ON INTERNET AND FOUND OTHERS HAVING SAME COMPLAINT. THE MIRROR HOUSINGS WERE CHANGED ON MODELS AFTER 8/2013 (HAD RIBS ADD TO HOUSING) RETURN TO DEALER AND THEY CHANGED TO THE NEWER HOUSINGS AND THE NOISE WENT AWAY.
MY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON WIRING HARNESS WAS CHEWED ON BY A RODENT . IT CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH THE RUNNING OF THE VEHICLE , THE TRACTION CONTROL , THE CRUISE CONTROL AND WAS OPERATING ON 5 CYLINDERS . THE DEALERS REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT A RODENT EAT THROUGH THE WIRES AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT WARRANTY THIS PROBLEM . THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY NEXT TO ANOTHER TOYOTA PRODUCT THAT IS A 2006 AND HAS NEVER BEEN CHEWED . I HAVE DRIVEN TOYOTA'S SINCE 1988 AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TO HAPPEN . I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE IF THEY ARE PUTTING ANY TYPE EDIBLE PRODUCT IN THE VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE MIRRORS CAUSED A GLARE ONTO THE DASHBOARD IMPAIRING THE CONTACT'S VISION. I'M NOT SURE IF THE FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM IS AT FAULT; HOWEVER, FOLLOWING IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. WHEN I TELL TOYOTA SERVICE PEOPLE ABOUT IT, THEY DON'T SEEM CONCERNED. WHEN MAKING A SLOW TURN (USUALLY LEFT TURN), IT APPEARS THAT I AM ABOUT TO STALL - SEEMS LIKE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH GAS GETTING TO SYSTEM - OR PERHAPS IT IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM (GEARED DOWN TOO LOW). I AM A WOMAN, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. HOWEVER, I HAVE BEEN SCARED NUMEROUS TIMES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR HARDER AND I AM ALWAYS AFRAID THE CAR IS GOING TO LURCH FORWARD TOO FAST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR THE REQUIRED 10,000 MILE WARRANTY MAINTENANCE. AT THIS TIME, I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WATER MARKS HAD APPEARED IN ALL FOUR UPPER CORNERS OF THE INSIDE CLOTH LINERS BESIDE THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELDS. I WAS TOLD THE SUNROOF HAD TUBES THAT OCCASIONALLY CLOGGED AND THEY WOULD CLEAR THE TUBES AND CLEAN THE INSIDE CLOTH. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS OUR AREA EXPERIENCED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RAIN. WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 15,000 MILE WARRANTY MAINTENANCE, I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WATER MARKS APPEARED TO HAVE WORSENED IN THE SAME AREAS. THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THERE WERE NO CLOGS IN THE SUNROOF TUBING AND THEY HAD ATTEMPTED TO RECREATE THE WATER LEAKAGE BY RUNNING WATER OVER THE CAR FOR ONE HOUR. THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE WATER MARKS KEPT REAPPEARING AND DID NOT KNOW IF ANYONE CALLED TOYOTA. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE BECAUSE THERE WERE NO "RECALLS" PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE. I PERFORMED A GOOGLE SEARCH AND DISCOVERED A BLOG WHERE MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND ONE PERSON EVEN HAD TO HAVE THE HEADLINERS AND CLOTH REPLACED DUE TO WATER DAMAGE. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO BUT I COULD REPORT THIS TO THE NHTSA IF I FELT THE NEED TO SEEK REPAIRS. *TR

I PURCHASED THE USED VEHICLE FROM CORWIN TOYOTA IN FARGO, ND. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I RETURNED THREE TIMES FOR REPAIRS. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE THE THIRD TIME IN SIX WEEKS I FOUND OUT THAT TWO RECALLS WOULD ALSO BE TAKEN CARE OF. I WENT ON LINE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE RECALLS WERE FOR. ONE OF THEM WAS NHTSA RECALL ID 13V442. THIS RECALL IS ABOUT A DRAIN HOSE CLOGGING THAT COULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE THE AIR BAGS TO ACTIVATE DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OR TO POSSIBLY NOT ACTIVATE IN AN ACCIDENT. THE RESULT COULD BE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. THIS RECALL WAS INITIATED IN THE SUMMER OF 2013. THE DEALER(CORWIN) TOOK THIS CAR IN ON TRADE IN OCTOBER OF 2014 AND THEN SOLD IT TO ME. WHY WOULD THEY SELL A CAR WITH A KNOWN RECALL WITHOUT FIXING IT. ESPECIALLY ONE THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY/DEATH? WHY IS THIS ALLOWED? *TR

THE MAIN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE IS THE HEADLINER COMING DOWN, IT HAS BEEN TO 2 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS FOR REPAIR, AND TO DATE IT IS STILL NOT CORRECTED. I WAS TOLD BY THE LAST DEALERSHIP, THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX IT ANYMORE, IT IS TAKING AWAY FROM THERE MAN HOURS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FILED IN A COURT SETTING, AWAITING A COURT DATE. THIS ISSUE IS GOING TO CAUSE HARM TO SOMEONE SOON, AND TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
PER THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE DRAIN HOSE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER IN MY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON MAY BECOME CLOGGED CAUSING WATER TO ACCUMULATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER UNIT HOUSING. THE ACCUMULATED WATER MAY THEN LEAK THROUGH A SEAM IN THE HOUSING ONTO THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A SHORT CIRCUIT OF THE MODULE. THEY SAY TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A CLEAR SUNNY DAY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND BEGAN TO OPERATE AT FULL SPEED AND WOULD NOT RESPOND AT ATTEMPTS TO STOP THEM. THE HORN STARTED GOING OFF WITH ALARM NOISES IN THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL OF AN ELECTRICAL ODOR AND WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO ENTER THE CABIN THROUGH THE DASH. ATTEMPTS TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER WERE PREVENTED AS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND OR WORK DESPITE STEPPING ON THEM WITH BOTH FEET AND ATTEMPTING TO PUMP THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL TRAVELING ON THE ROAD AND DOWN A HILL WITH NO ELECTRICAL, STEERING, OR POWER FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED THE PASSENGER JUMPED OUT. FIRE BEGAN TO COME THROUGH THE DASH AND UPON THE DRIVER OPENING HIS DOOR FIRE ALSO CAME INTO THE CABIN FROM BENEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER JUMPED OUT JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAREENED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND EXPLODED 3 TIMES. *TR
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA, MARCH 2014 REGARDING INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUITING OF THE INTEGRATED CIRCUITS ON THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. CONTACT TOYOTA SEPT 2014 REGARDING WHEN THIS WOULD BE FIXED. THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT KNOW. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, THAT BEING 7 MONTHS FROM MARCH TO SEPTEMBER. I AM FILLING A VEHICULAR SAFETY COMPLAINT THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE RECALL IN A TIMELY MANNER WHICH COULD CAUSE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAGS OR SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS CAUSING INJURY. *TR
I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON, THERE IS ONE REALLY BAD DESIGN FLAW!!! THE ACCENT CHROME AROUND THE CONTROLS AND AIR CONDITIONER VENTS REFLECT THE SUNLIGHT INTO THE EYES OF THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER, AND IT IS BLINDING. THE BLINDING REFLECTION MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND/OR DIRECT INJURY TO THE EYES SUCH AS RETINA, CORNEA DAMAGE AS WELL AS ANY OTHER EYE DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. I HAVE TRIED THE DARKEST/PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR THAT I CAN PURCHASE BUT THE REFLECTION STILL COMES THROUGH BLINDING. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE DARKEST WINDOW TENT ALLOWED BY LAW INSTALLED (PURCHASED AT THE DEALERSHIP). I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA DIRECTLY BUT HAVE HAD NO OFFER FOR A SOLUTION. THIS IS A SIMPLE TO FIX WITH A REPLACEMENT PIECE OF DASH CHROME IN A NON-REFLECTIVE COLOR SUCH AS A FLAT BLACK, WOOD-GRAIN, OR BRUSHED METAL COLOR. A CUSTOM DESIGNED DASH AREA SHADE SHOULD ALSO OFFER A SOLUTION. I HAVE VERIFIED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS THROUGH AN INTERNET SEARCH. *TR

WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2013 TOYOTA AVALON ON I-10 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER STOPPING FOR GAS, WE REENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. BEFORE WE COULD PULL OVER, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT; THE ENTIRE INTERIOR SIDEWALL SEPARATED. WE HAD NOT HIT ANY POTHOLE OR ANY OTHER OBJECT. THANKFULLY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T SWERVE INTO THE 18 WHEELER NEXT TO US. THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES TOYOTA HAD PLACED ON THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DOWNGRADED FROM A 40K MILE TIRE TO A 0 MILE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 15,143 MILES ON IT AND WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. A SECOND TIRE (LEFT REAR TIRE) WAS ALSO TOO DANGEROUS TO CONTINUE TO USE (AS IT LOOKED LIKE THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL ON THAT ONE WAS ALSO ABOUT TO SEPARATE) SO WE HAD TO REPLACE THAT TIRE AS WELL THAT DAY. WE WILL BE REPLACING THE OTHER TWO NOW AND WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY ANY BRIDGESTONE OR FIRESTONE PRODUCT. THE ABSOLUTELY SUBSTANDARD QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS PLACED THE LIVES OF OUR ENTIRE FAMILY AT RISK. MY DAUGHTERS OFTEN DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND ONE OF THEM WILL BE TAKING IT TO COLLEGE IN THE FALL. I WOULD HATE TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF ONE OF OUR KIDS HAD BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL WHEN THIS TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS INEXCUSABLE THAT BRIDGESTONE WOULD PUT OUT SUCH POOR QUALITY PRODUCTS, REPRESENTING THEM TO BE A 40K MILE TIRE, THEN DOWNGRADE THE MILEAGE ON THE TIRES WITHOUT NOTIFYING OWNERS AND GET AWAY WITH THAT TYPE OF ACTIVITY. WE ALWAYS MAINTAIN OUR VEHICLES AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND VEHICLE ALIGNMENT CHECKED ALL PER NORMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. TIRES ARE BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL 400, P225/45R18 91V M+S, DOT OBRR PM1 0313. *TR
I PURCHASED A TOYOTA AVALON LIMITED CERTIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SAFE WITH NO RECALLS OR APPLICABLE SSCS. ON MAY 16 2014. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF A OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALL INVOLVING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT HOUSING MAY LEAK ONTO THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE. I DID NOT FIND THIS OUT UNTIL MAY 21 2014 5 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR THE DEALERSHIP KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE OCT 2013, AND STILL SOLD THE CAR, HAD I NOT CHECK THE VIN # WITH THE SAFETY BOARD I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN, THEY SAY THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPAIRED ON MAY 21 2014. NEVER THE LESS THE DEALERSHIP FALSIFIED THE CERTIFICATION AND COMMITTED FRAUD BY SELLING ME THIS CAR. *TR
NOTICED SOME TIME A GO THE HEADLINER IS SAGGING AT THE BACK WINDOW. WAS AT DEALER FOR SERVICE AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW ONE. AFTER OBSERVING COMPLAINTS ON TNE NHTSA SITE I SEE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. WE'LL SEE IF THEY ORDER IT, HOPEFULLY TOYOTA RECTIFIES THIS BEFORE PEOPLE REALLY GET A CASE OF THE A__. MORE THAN THAT THOUGH, I HOPE THIS DOESN'T BECOME A REAL SAFETY HAZARD.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY VEHICLE ON FEBRUARY 6, 2014 AND EVERY TIME I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY HVAC ASSEMBLY REPAIRED THEY TELL ME THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE PUTTING ME AND MY SAFETY AT RISK BY NOT PRODUCING A FIX FOR THIS RECALL. *TR
TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, SUDDEN BRAKING IN FRONT OF ME REQUIRED QUICK BRAKING. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, NO BRAKES ACTIVATED AND THE CAR ACTUALLY SEEMED TO INCREASE SPEED. I THEN APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO SCREECH/SLIDE BEFORE THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE SUDDEN BRAKING INCIDENT CAUSED ME TO FEAR NOT ONLY BEING REAR ENDED, BUT ALSO, RAMMING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. VERY UNSETTLING AND I NOW HAVE MUCH LESS CONFIDENCE IN TOYOTA'S TOP OF THE LINE SEDAN. I AM GOING TO LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TODAY AS THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY, APRIL 16, 2014.

HE COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN OUT THE VEHICLE. AS HE LOOKED UP, HE SAW HE WAS ABOUT TO CRASH INTO AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. WITH NO TIME TO REACT, HE HIT THE ONCOMING VEHICLE, IN A FRONT END COLLISION. AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, HE WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. THE OTHER DRIVER SUSTAINED A NECK INJURY AND A BUMP ON THE TOP OF HIS HEAD, WHEN HE HIT THE ROOF ON IMPACT AND THE CONSUMER SUFFERED WHIPLASH. SUNLIGHT IS REFLECTED INTO THE EYES OF THE DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER FROM THE INTERIOR TRIM. THIS BRIGHT REFLECTION NOT ONLY MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE AT TIMES, THE SUNLIGHT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RETINA AND CORNEA. THE LIGHT COMES FROM MANY DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CAR SO IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONSTANTLY SHIELD WITH OUR HANDS WHILE DRIVING. WE KEEP THE SUNROOF CLOSED. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE SUN IS DIRECTLY OVERHEAD OR AT AN ANGLE BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY AREAS THAT REFLECT THE LIGHT. WE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF PURCHASE. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. WHILE THEY INITIALLY SEEMED WILLING TO HELP, IT IS OBVIOUS FROM THEIR SILENCE, THAT THEY HOPE THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS CONDITIONS SUCH AS MACULAR DEGENERATION, CATARACTS, AND PTERYGIUM, CAUSED BY EXPOSURE TO BRIGHT SUNLIGHT IN THE EYES AND ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE DAMAGE THAT COULD RESULT FROM THIS CONSTANT EXPOSURE. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD CORRECT THE DESIGN FLAW IN OUR CAR. *TR

I HAD WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP PLAZA TOYOTA IN BROOKLYN NY TO HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT THE REAR HEADLINER THAT HAD BEEN COMING DOWN. I WAS TOLD THAT MY APPOINTMENT WAS TOO LATE IN THE EVENING SO I HAD TO SET AN EARLIER APPOINT WHICH WOULD BE THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AFTER THE HOLIDAY. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT ABOUT 9AM ON JULY 8TH AND PICKED IT UP ABOUT 6:30PM THAT DAY ONLY TO HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ROTATED THE TIRES...WHICH WAS LAUGHABLE BECAUSE I WAS NEVER CALLED AND TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WITH MY REAR HEADLINER COULD NOT BE FIXED THAT DAY. I WAS TOLD BY MY SERVICE ADVISER THAT THEY NEEDED APPROVAL FROM THE DISTRICT MANAGER BECAUSE THE REPAIRS WERE QUITE COSTLY AND IT TAKES UP TO 30 DAYS IN MOST INSTANCES TO GET APPROVAL. I IMMEDIATELY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND NYC BBB. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME BACK IN A FEW DAYS AND ASSURED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED WHEN I CAME BACK IN THE COUNTRY FROM VACATION. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP IN MID AUGUST ONLY TO HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WERE DENIED BECAUSE THE PICTURES SHOW THAT THE HEADLINER WAS TAMPERED WITH AND VOIDED THE WARRANTY. I AGAIN FILED ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND NYC BBB ONLY THIS TIME I WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO ARBITRATION WITH NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT. I ALSO HAVE CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE DEALERSHIP VIA VOICEMAIL AND THE RESPONSE THEY GAVE BBB THAT I VOIDED THE WARRANTY. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS IS WHEN THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT I HAD REQUESTED AN ARBITRATION THEY IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO CALL MY PHONE EVERY DAY FOR 2 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY WERE WRONG TO DENY MY CLAIM AND FIX THE CAR FOR FREE. NOW THEY ARE FACING THE FACT THEY MAY HAVE TO GIVE ME A FULL REFUND FOR THE VEHICLE OR A COMPARABLE CAR.....IDIOTS. *TR

ABOUT 8/27/13, TOOK BACK TO DEALER BECAUSE THE SEAT PANEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WAS FALLING OFF. 9/13/13, DEALER INSTALLED A NEW HEADLINER. PICKING UP ON 9/18/13 AFTER A NEW HEADLINER WAS INSTALLED, THE GAP REMAINS AT THE MOON ROOF AREA AND ONE OF THE BACK PANELS WAS NOT IN PLACE. THE DEALER WAS STILL WAITING FOR SEAT BACK PANEL PART AND WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BACK PANEL. 9/18/13 - LEFT IT AT THE DEALER SINCE HEADLINER ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED AND THE SEAT BACK PANEL IS STILL NOT FIXED. I'M AFRAID THE CAR WILL NEVER BE LIKE NEW AND I'M AFRAID EVEN ANOTHER NEW HEADLINER WILL STILL HAVE ISSUES. I BELIEVE IT'S A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. AFTER PURCHASING IT NEW ON 7/3/13, DROOPING HEADLINER AND SEAT BACK PANEL FALLING OFF, IS NOT PRESENTABLE AND APPROPRIATE TO DRIVE SINCE I USE MY CAR FOR BUSINESS. HOW FAST THIS IS RESOLVED IS GOING TO DETERMINE HOW I SPEAK ABOUT TOYOTA AND FUTURE PURCHASES! GET AFTER IT! NEXT UP, SEAT BACK COVERS ALSO WAS BLAMED ON KIDS IN SHOWROOM PULLING THEM DOWN. I LOOKED AT THE DESIGN AND SEE HOW SORRY THE ENGINEERING IS. TOYOTA, NEED FIX AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.. A GOOD ONE! I WILL REPORT THIS TO THE NEWS IF NOT RECTIFIED. *TR
SEAT BELT ON DRIVERS SIDE HUNG UP WHEN PULLED OUT TO ATTACH IT TO THE SEAT LATCH. WILL NOT RETRACT BACK INTO THE COMPARTMENT IN THE VEHICLE BODY. HANGING LOOSE. WILL NOT ADJUST TO YOUR BODY. WOULD NOT LOCK UP IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TOYOTA CORP CONTINUES TO SELL 2013 TOYOTA AVALONS WITH A KNOWN DEFECT TO THE HEADLINER. THE HEADLINER TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SAGS AND MAY POTENTIALLY OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. IT IS APPARENT AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE THAT TOYOTA IS FULLY AWARE OF THE DEFECT BUT FAILED TO CONTACT DEALERSHIPS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. PER TOYOTA THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX AT THIS TIME AND MY VEHICLE HAS REMAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE PAST 4 DAYS. *TR
HEADLINER IS FALLING DOWN IN BACK BY REAR WINDOW. PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA. I AM TOLD TOYOTA IS WORKING ON A FIX FOR IT BUT IT WILL BE A WHILE BEFORE A RESOLUTION IS FOUND. AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE TOYOTA TACKED UP THE HEADLINER IN THE MIDDLE WHERE IT WAS FALLING DOWN. A FEW DAYS LATER THE HEADLINER BEGAN TO FALL DOWN ON BOTH SIDES WHERE IT WAS TACKED UP BY THE REAR WINDOW. I WAS THEN TOLD, THEY WERE AFRAID THAT WOULD HAPPEN. TOYOTA HAS NO RESOLUTION AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE HEADLINER OR VEHICLE. I AM TOLD BY TOYOTA THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AS THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE STILL SELLING VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS. ALTHOUGH YOU CAN STILL SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW, WHO KNOWS FOR HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE IT JUST GIVES WAY. AS TOYOTA WILL NOT/OR CAN NOT REPAIR THIS ISSUE, AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE HEADLINER OR THE VEHICLE THEY REALLY AREN'T HONORING THE WARRANTY EITHER. IN AN EFFORT TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, I COULD NOT GET PAST THE CLAIM REPRESENTATIVE AT HEADQUARTERS NOR THE FACTORY REP. EVIDENTLY, MANAGEMENT WILL NOT SPEAK WITH CUSTOMERS AND NO ONE WILL RESPOND BY E-MAIL. *TR
MY WIFE WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE WITHOUT RESULTS. THE CAR CONTINUED FORWARD ABOUT 10 FEET,AND WAS STOPPED ON IMPACT BY A PICNIC TABLE AND SIDE OF A BUILDING. SHE RECEIVED A WHIPLASH INJURY, RECENTLY DIAGNOSED AS HERNIATED DISKS, AND IS CURRENTLY UNDER MEDICAL CARE.DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO THE GRILL AND CRUMPLE ZONE IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR.THE INSURANCE ASSESSED THE DAMAGE AT $7,000.00, AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED. *TR
THERE IS A GLARE IN THE REAR WINDOW THAT TENDS TO ALWAYS HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON VISIBILITY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY 40 YEARS OF DRIVING AND OWNING OVER 20 VEHICLES. IT SEEMS THE ANGLE OF THE WINDOW COMBINED WITH THE LIGHT GRAY REAR DECK MATERIAL CREATES THE DISTRACTING REFLECTION/GLARE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE PORT INSTALLED TINTING THAT CAUSED THE REFLECTION, BUT NOW I AM BEGINNING TO THINK IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. ALSO, I SEE YOU NEED MY NAME AND PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THIS FORM AND YOU ARE PROMISING TO KEEP IT CONFIDENTIAL AND PRIVATE. NOW HOW CAN ANYONE TRUST ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY THESE DAYS TO PROTECT INFORMATION WHEN ONE OF THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF OUR GOVERNMENT SEEMS TO BE SPYING ON ALL THE CITIZENS AND ACTING LIKE THE USSR CIRCA 1960? *TR
SERIOUS PROBLEM: 2013 TOYOTA AVALON DASHBOARD TRIM CAUSES A DANGEROUS REFLECTION OF SUNLIGHT DIRECTLY INTO DRIVER'S EYES. DURING MID-DAY SUN, BLINDING BEAMS OF SUNLIGHT BOUNCE OFF SEVERAL AREAS OF THE MIRRORED-CHROME-COLORED PLASTIC TRIM THAT SURROUNDS THE DASHBOARD AND WRAPS AROUND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. SUNLIGHT IS REFLECTED OFF CHROME TRIM BENEATH THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER. BLINDING SUNLIGHT ALSO REFLECTS OFF TRIM ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AND OTHER POINTS ACROSS THE TRIM. DEPENDING ON TIME OF DAY AND DIRECTION OF CAR, SUNLIGHT BOUNCES OFF DIFFERENT PLACES ON THE TRIM. BECAUSE THE TRIM IS BEVELED, INSTEAD OF A VERTICAL SURFACE, IT FOCUSES THE SUNLIGHT DIRECTLY BACK INTO THE DRIVER''S EYES. DRIVERS NEED TO REGULARLY GLANCE DOWN AT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REFLECTED SUNLIGHT FROM THAT AREA AND OTHER SECTIONS ON THE DASH IS DANGEROUSLY DISTRACTING. ACCIDENTS COULD OCCUR AS A RESULT OF DRIVERS BEING MOMENTARILY BLINDED BY THEIR DASHBOARD TRIM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE MIRRORED SURFACE OF THE TRIM, AS WELL AS OTHER CHROME TRIM ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND AROUND THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS, WITH A DARK-COLORED TRIM OR MATTE, NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. DESPITE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED AT THE NHTSA AND MY DIRECT CONTACT WITH TOYOTA MOTORS USA, THE COMPANY REFUSED TO OFFER A SOLUTION AND/OR TEMPORARY WORK-AROUND FOR RETRO-FITTING THE TRIM WITH A NON-REFLECTIVE SURFACE. THE COMPANY TOLD ME IT DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH SUNLIGHT REFLECTING INTO DRIVER'S' EYES FROM THE TRIM. THUS, NO PROBLEM MEANS NO NEED FOR A SOLUTION. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE NHTSA. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM OCCURS IN 2013 MODELS OF TOYOTA AVALON CURRENTLY BEING SOLD IN DEALERSHIPS, THE BUYING PUBLIC NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT IT. FURTHER, TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE PROMPTED TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO PREVENT UNNECESSARY INJURIES OR FATALITIES IN THE FUTURE. *TR
HEADLINER OF THE CAR IS PEELING FROM THE REAR. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP I.E. HOLMAN TOYOTA, MT. LAUREL, NJ, THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD ORDER THE NEW HEADLINER AND REPLACE THE SAME. WENT TODAY JULY 2ND, 2013, HOLMAN TOYOTA ADVISED THE PEELING HEADLINER IS COMMON ISSUE IN THE 2013 AVALON AND TOYOTA HAS INSTRUCTED DEALERS NOT TO REPLACE THE HEADLINER AS REPLACING THE HEADLINER WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. TOYOTA HAS ADVISED IT IS TRYING TO COME UP WITH A PERMANENT FIX VIA A "REPAIR" JOB, NOT ETA ON THE SAME YET. TILL TOYOTA COMES UP WITH A REPAIR I HAVE A PEELING HEADLINE WHICH CAN FALL ON HEAD WHILE I AM DRIVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND TOYOTA IS JUST SITTING ON IT. *TR
THIS TOYOTA WAS PURCHASED WITH A SUNROOF TOP. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS WE NOTICED THE HEADLINER WAS COMING LOOSE FROM THE ROOF. WE NOTICED THAT WHEN YOU OPENED THE SUNROOF THE AIR ENTERING THE CAR MADE THE ROOF OR HEADLINER SHAKE AND MOVE AS IF TO MUCH AIR WAS GETTING UNDER IT CAUSING THE HEADLINER TO SEPARATE FROM THE ROOF. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY TOLD US THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE HEADLINERS AND THAT NO PARTS WERE BEING REPLACED AT THIS TIME. I LOOK AT THIS AS A MAJOR FLAW AND THE ROOF COMING LOOSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING THE TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT. WE'VE HAD THE CAR TWO WEEKS SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE SAID O BY THE WAY THE ROOF MAY SEPARATE FROM THE TOP OF THE CAR. NO CALLS ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY TOLD US TO TAKE OUR CAR THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT RIGHT NOW. PLEASE TELL EVERYONE THE ROOF IN THIS CAR HAS PROBLEMS AN TOYOTA IS NOT FIXING IT. IT'S UNFAIR TO THE CONSUMER THAT THINGS LIKE THIS CAN HAPPEN AND PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT AND ARE STILL ALLOWED TO SELL THESE CAR IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE TODAY. *TR
2013 TOYOTA AVALON HYBRID. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE INACCURATE SPEEDOMETER. *SMD AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS 2-3 MPH FAST. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, THAT WAS ACCEPTABLE.
I DROVE TO BALTIMORE, MD FROM CHERRY HILL, NJ ON 06/16/2013 AT SPEEDS VARYING FROM 45MPH - 75MPH. THE MOMENT I GOT ON TO NJ TURNPIKE, THE WIND AND ROAD NOISE WERE LOUD INSIDE THE CABIN. THE ENTIRE TIME IT SEEMED THE WINDOWS OF THE CAR WERE OPEN EVEN THOUGH THE A/C WAS ON SLOW, WINDOWS AND SUNROOF WERE CLOSED. (I HAVE TWO OLDER CARS I.E. HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2002 AND HONDA ACCORD 2005 WHICH HAVE LESS CABIN NOISE WHEN WINDOWS ARE CLOSED). CONSIDERING, THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR, HIGH END AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE VERY QUITE, I FIND IT A BIG SAFETY RISK AS THE NOISE IS DISTRACTING, BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO SEE IF THE WINDOWS WERE OPEN, DOORS WERE PROPERLY CLOSED AND SUN ROOF WASN'T OPEN / TILTED, ALL THE WHILE DISTRACTING ME FROM THE ROAD. A LOT OF THE NOISE SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM AROUND THE DOORS AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, AT ONE POINT DURING MY JOURNEY THERE WAS A LOUD WHOOSHING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT WIND SHIELD AS IF THERE WAS NO SEAL / INSULATION BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE BODY OF THE CAR. *TR
FAILED COMPONENT IN THIS VEHICLE, AS WELL AS EVERY OTHER 2013 TOYOTA AVALON, HAS A DISTORTED REAR WINDOW AND ONE CANNOT GET A CLEAR VIEW OF WHAT IS BEHIND. ALL LINES ARE ZIG-ZAG AND EVERYTHING BEHIND IS FUZZY. THIS IS NOT A DISPUTE BETWEEN ONE CAR OWNER AND TOYOTA, BUT A DISPUTE THAT ENCOMPASSES EVERY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON AND IN WHICH THE NHTSA SHOULD TAKE INTEREST. I HAVE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THAT ALL THESE VEHICLES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS CAR 12/17/12 ON A RAINY, OVERCAST DAY. AFTER DELIVERY, I NOTICED THE WINDOW, AND THINKING IT COULD BE REPAIRED BY REPLACEMENT, TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND AFTER THEY CHECKED OTHER CARS ON THE LOT, FOUND ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIELD SERVICE REP AND I MET AND HE DROVE THE VEHICLE. HE TOO, SAW THE PROBLEM. WE MET AGAIN, AND HE HAD MET WITH THE TECHNICAL PEOPLE IN JACKSONVILLE, AND NO CAR HAD A CLEAR WINDOW. HE STATED, IN WRITING, THAT HE WOULD PURSUE A RE-PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ADVISED TO GET A CASE NUMBER AND I DID SO. AFTER WORKING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS WITH THE CASE MANAGER, HE INFORMED ME THAT ON MAY 17TH, THE DIRECTORS AND CORPORATE MANAGERS WERE MEETING AND ON MAY 20TH, HE WOULD CALL TO LET ME KNOW IF A WINDOW HAD BEEN RE-ENGINEERED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CORRECTION COULD NOT BE MADE, SO ARBITRATION PAPERS WERE SENT. AFTER PURSUING THIS, I WAS INFORMED I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ARBITRATION BECAUSE IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT NO MFG. SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PUT ON THE ROAD. A VERY EXPENSIVE CAR THAT NO ONE SHOULD BE CONDEMNED TO DRIVE BECAUSE ONE CANNOT GET A CLEAR VIEW OF WHAT IS BEHIND. ON 6/13/13, I WAS INFORMED TOYOTA WOULD NOT RE-PURCHASE THE CAR, NOW WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY DID NOT CONSIDER IT TO BE A SAFETY PROBLEM. IT IS. EVEN THE REP. INVOLVED THINKS THE CAR SHOULD BE RE-PURCHASED. IT SHOULD BE RE-PURCHASED AND EVERY 2013 TOYOTA AVALON SHOULD BE RECALLED.

WHILE DRIVING FROM KNOXVILLE TN TO ATLANTA GA, ON A DOWNGRADE JUST OUTSIDE OF CHATTANOOGA ON INTERSTATE 75 I WENT TO USE THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT COME BACK. I HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER AND ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD WAS I ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE IT OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, WHICH WAS CLEAR, AND WAIT UNTIL I GOT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE FOR THE VEHICLE TO COAST TO A STOP ON IT'S OWN. I HAD TO USE THE GRASS AND GRAVEL JUST OFF THE EMERGENCY LANE TO HELP BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO TOYOTA OF KNOXVILLE, WHERE PURCHASED, AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. HAVE DRIVEN ANOTHER 500 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT AND NO PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED HAS BEEN OFFERED BY TOYOTA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN REFLECTION FROM THE CHROME ON THE DASHBOARD AND ARM REST DISTORTED HIS VISION WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15. UPDATED 07/16/13*LJ
2013 AVALON TOURING ON APRIL 2013 EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CAR HASN'T BEEN VERY GOOD CONSIDERING THAT IT IS A NEW CAR. THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE LEATHER ON THE BACK SEAT BUCKLING AND A STAIN THAT WAS ON THE HEADLINER IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR AREA BECAUSE OF A WATER LEAK FROM THE ROOF. IT WAS TAKEN TO CLINT'S AUTO TRIM TO CORRECT THE LEATHER. HE FELT IT WAS A WATER STAIN THAT WAS THE RESULT OF WATER LEAKING FROM AN AREA ON THE ROOF THAT WASN'T SEALED CORRECTLY. BASED ON WHAT WE HEARD FROM CLINT'S AUTO TRIM, WE TESTED THE CAR BY PLACING WATER ON THE CAR OVER THE AREA WHERE THE STAIN WAS PRESENT. IT REVEALED A NEW WATER STAIN ON THE HEADLINER. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO SERVICE ABOUT OUR FINDING. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO STEPHEN'S AUTO GLASS TO FIX THE LEAK. THE STAIN ON THE HEADLINER WAS CLEANED. HOWEVER, THE STAIN CAN STILL BE SEEN. WE REQUESTED THAT THE HEADLINER BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE STAIN. HOWEVER, MY WIFE IS HAVING ISSUES WITH HER EYES BURNING AND NOSE RUNNING WHILE IN THE CAR DUE TO THE SMELL OF MILDEW. WE TURNED OUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE YESTERDAY TO GET THE HEADLINER REPLACED. NOW, THEY TELL US THAT THE HEADLINER IS TOO SHORT TO INSTALL. SO ANOTHER ONE WILL HAVE TO BE ORDERED. SO OUR CAR WILL HAVE STAY UNTIL TUESDAY. I AM HIGHLY UPSET THAT A BRAND NEW CAR HAS SO MANY ISSUES. FIRST, IT WAS THE LEATHER, THEN A WATER LEAK, AND THE HEADLINER IS TOO SHORT FROM THE FACTORY. PROBLEMS JUST CONTINUE TO STACK ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER. THE TOYOTA EXPERIENCE HARDLY LIVES UP WHAT IS STATED ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BRING A SMILE TO SOMEONE'S FACE AS AKIO TOYODA SAID IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA AVALON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SURGED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE AN ENGINEER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND AGREED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,000. *TR
IN THE 2013 TOYOTA AVALON, DRIVER VISIBILITY IS DANGEROUSLY DISTORTED WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AT APPROACHING CARS (ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT), DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE NEW 2013 ENGINEERING DESIGN OF THE REAR GLASS MATERIAL, REAR GLASS CONTOUR AND ANGLE, TINTING, AND DEFROST STRIPS. ALL LIGHTS (ESPECIALLY VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS, STREET LIGHTS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ETC.) OBSERVED THROUGH THE REAR GLASS HAVE LONG, BRIGHT, VERTICAL LINES RADIATING AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM FROM THE MAIN LIGHT SOURCE VIEWED THROUGH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THESE VERTICAL LINES SHINING FROM ALL OF THE NUMEROUS LIGHT SOURCES OBSCURE THE REAR VIEW VISION, CAUSING CONFUSION FOR THE DRIVER IN MANY WAYS: 1) NOT BEING ABLE TO CORRECTLY JUDGE REAR CAR DISTANCE, 2) NOT BEING ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE TYPES OF VEHICLES IN THE REAR, 3) NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE LANES SAFELY BECAUSE OF DISTORTIONS THROUGH THE REAR GLASS PANEL, 4) NOT BEING ABLE TO JUDGE HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE APPROACHING AND/OR PASSING, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, 5) CAUSING THE DRIVER TO STARE LONGER THROUGH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IN AN ATTEMPT TO DISCERN WHAT IS TAKING PLACE BEHIND WHICH TAKES THE DRIVER'S EYE OFF OF THE FRONT VISION FOR TOO LONG. ALTHOUGH THE BRIGHT VERTICAL LINES CAN BE SEEN MORE DISTINCTLY AT DUSK AND NIGHT, THEY ARE ALSO OBSERVABLE DURING THE DAYTIME IF THE VEHICLES COMING FROM BEHIND HAVE FRONT LIGHTS ON, AND/OR THE SUN SHINES ON THE CHROME. THESE RADIATING VERTICAL LINES TAKE ON THE COLOR OF THE MAIN LIGHT SOURCE SEEN FROM BEHIND SO THE DRIVER MAY OBSERVE WHITE, YELLOW, RED, GREEN, ETC. COLORS. THIS CAUSES CONFUSION WHEN TRYING TO JUDGE WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH APPROACHING VEHICLES FROM BEHIND. ON A MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT, THESE MANY-COLORED VERTICAL LINES RADIATING UP AND DOWN FROM THE VARIOUS TYPES OF HEADLIGHTS, STREET LIGHTS, ETC. CAUSE A CONFUSING AND DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE DRIVER.
