The contact stated that when he went back to his vehicle to exit a driveway , his vehicle started to make a clunking sound until it shut completely stopped. The contact stated that no warning lights had illuminated at the time. The contact stated that he stepped out of his vehicle to inspect the surrounding of his vehicle , and noticed a large puddle of gasoline under his vehicle. The contact stated he tried to restart the vehicle , however was unable. The contact stated that he then had his vehicle towed to the dealer , where it remains at the time. The contact stated that he did contact the dealer , and manufacturer , however they were not able to assist. The contact stated that by doing his own research, he saw many complaints on the same failure he was experiencing with his vehicle , as other vehicles , same year, make, and model. I suffered a breakdown in my 2014 BMW 328d on 26 Oct 21 with a drive train malfunction warning. Vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. Vehicle was towed to local repair shop, International Auto Specialist, located in Fredericksburg, VA, and diagnosed as a high pressure fuel pump failure and calling for the entire replacement of the vehicles fuel system. At the recommendation of my local repair shop, the vehicle was then towed 59 miles to the closest BMW dealership, BMW Fairfax, VA, for repair. The safety issue I have is that a recall notice (Recall Campaign #21V-586) was issued by BMW North America in September 2021 for High Pressure Fuel Pump failures affecting 2014-2018 BMW diesel engine vehicles ranging from 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X3 SAV, and X5 SAV models. I never received a recall notice for this vehicle, or my 2015 BMW X5d SAV, and have been told by BMW Fairfax, VA, and BMW Corporate that my high pressure fuel pump only carries an extended 10-year, 120,000 warranty, even through both vehicles falls within the parameters of the open recall notice issued by BMW North America. Further, BMW Fairfax, VA has informed me that all other parts damaged by the High Pressure Fuel Pump failure are not covered by the extended warranty and any cost associated with additional repairs is the customers responsibility, regardless of the fact that they will only replace the defective part at the time of failure and not before. How can BMW North America issue a recall notice for a specific group of vehicles, but not include all vehicles that fall within the specifications associated to the recall? This part failure occurred while I was driving in heavy traffic and I was fortunate it did not cause series bodily harm to myself or others. I respectfully request you investigate the situation to determine BMW's liability and inept handling of this recall in order to prevent others from being harmed. The contact owns a 2014 BMW 328D. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled in the middle of the highway. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's daughter was unable to veer to the side of the road due to oncoming traffic. The police arrived on the scene and stopped the traffic before assisting the contact's daughter in pushing the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump and the fuel pump control unit needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at his own expense since the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V586000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,602.

MANY CANY MANUFACTURERS PROVIDE VEHICLE RELATED FEATURES THAT REQUIRE THE VEHICLE TO COMMUNICATE VIA THE CELLULAR NETWORKS. IMPACT:CERTAIN BMW VECHICLES SOLD WITH MANUFATURER PURCHASED FEATURES FOR NAVIGATION WITH THE LIVE TRAFFIC CAPABILITY SOLD ON A SUBSRIPTION BASIS AFTER THE INTIAL WARRANTY PERIOD STOPPED FUNCTIONING BMW CUSTOMER INTERACTION RELATED INFO: - Attempted to use the live traffic info and contacted BMW customer service - Response was that this feature is no loger available because it uses 3G and 3G is being discontinued. I was directed to the local Dealer for upgrade - Local Delar confirmed that do not have information for this upgrade and directed me back to BMW customer support - I contacted BMW customer service and they confirmed that this feature operates on 3G and no longer available Connected Drive installed on the vehicle CUSTOMER CONCERN: I do expect a car manufacurer that sells vehicles with cellular dependent features to conform to the latest cellular communication standard in North America and issue a recall to upgrade 3G dependent vehicles with certain sold capabilities that stopped operating due to the 3G to 4G transition in North America
Occasionally it is impossible to unlock the door from the inside with the manual door unlock. The door operates in a two-step manner - pull the door latch once to unlock the door, and then pull again to open the door. However, sometimes the first pull fails to unlock the door and the only way to unlock the vehicle is with the electric door unlock. When this occurs, there is notable tension in the door handle, and the pop-up unlock indicator does move upwards in synch with the door handle position - it's simply not reaching the unlock point, and there is resistance felt in the door latch. Even trying to assist the mechanism by grasping the unlock indicator (as doors used to be unlocked in this fashion) does not work. Obviously, if the electric system fails for any reason, not being able to open the door is a major safety issue. When this happens it is also observed that the electric lock operates very slowly. Instead of the post popping up and unlocking almost immediately, it takes a second or two for the door to unlock, as if there is additional internal resistance in the mechanism. This is observed on BOTH the driver and passenger side doors. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer on separate occasions. The suggestion has been to replace a cable in the door due to stretch. However, based on the nature of the issue and the symptoms in both doors it seems like an issue with the latch or locking mechanism itself. The passenger door is unlocked very infrequently compared to the driver's door and it seem unlikely they would wear at the same rate if it was a cable stretch issue. I have been able to record a video of this problem occurring. I plan to show it to the dealer at my next service in the next couple weeks since they were unable to replicate the issue.

Timing chain snapped and blew the engine, no warning at all. more than 60+ miles from home
In July 2021 I was driving on a residential street when my vehicle experienced loss of power. The vehicle shutdown and stopped in the middle of the road. Mechanic found metal particles in fuel system that may have been cause by fuel pump failure. It was reported to insurance company. The fuel system was replaced but vehicle continues to have issues with leaks etc.
While on a red light we were at a dead stop. As the light turned green to turn right I accelerated the gas pedal and the car stalled out in the middle of the road while traffic was flowing. Had to push the car out of the road and had to get the car towed home. Now the car doesn’t turn on it just cranks over.

On my drive home I noticed a strong smell of dizel fuel.Stoped as soon as it was possible . Noticed a fuel was poring to the ground under my engine. Shut it down and call AAA. At the BMW dealership repair shop they found a broken fuel supply line that was rubbing against the vacuum pipe.My car was covered with fuel from engine to a trunk to everything under including muffler ,soaking wet weals and tires, I lost a half tank of fuel in about 5 minutes. It's scare me a lot ,I think it was a miracle it did not catch a fire on 93 degree day, my wife will never sit in this car again.I will feel guilty if I will sell this car to somebody else.Don't know what to do now. What kind of design it is? How fuel line can constantly rub something else? This car just over 70000 miles, garage kept, never been in any accidents, well maintain.
I HAVE TWO ISSUES WITH MY 2014 BMW 328D. FIRST, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE BACKING UP INTO MY DRIVEWAY ON REVERSE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS UNEXPECTEDLY INTO NEUTRAL. I HAVE TO PUT IT INTO "D" AND DRIVE THE CAR FORWARD BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AGAIN INTO REVERSE. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND OCCURS ABOUT ONCE A MONTH AND ONLY WHILE PUTTING THE GEAR IN REVERSE. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT MY VEHICLE RECENTLY FAILED THE CA EMISSIONS TEST. ON 11/23/2021 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW OF EL CAJON FOR AN INSPECTION. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM WITH THE 4 DIESEL INJECTORS AS FAULTY AND ISSUED A REPAIR ESTIMATE. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH ON YOUR SITE NHTSA.GOV, I FOUND THAT BMW HAD ISSUED A LIMITED EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 10 YEARS OR 120K MILES FOR THE DIESEL INJECTORS BUT ONLY FOR MODEL YEARS 2015-2016, OR PRODUCTION DATE OF 7/2014 TO 6/2016. MY VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED ON 08/2013. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHY MY VEHICLE'S MODEL YEAR/PRODUCTION DATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENSION CONSIDERING THAT IS THE SAME PRODUCTION MODEL (F30), AND ENGINE (N47T) AS THOSE COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND IS HAVING THE SAME DIESEL INJECTORS PROBLEM. ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BAD TIMING CHAIN. THERE IS CURRENTLY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WITH MY EXACT YEAR FOR 328I BUT I AM 328D. FROM MY RESEARCH IT APPEARS THE DIESEL MODELS HAVE EXPERIENCED MORE PROBLEMS THAN GAS ENGINES. EUROPE HAS DONE A RECALL WITH DIESEL ENGINES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. WHY NOT IN USA? THIS NEEDS TO BE COVERED AND ADDRESSED. I MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE FLAWLESSLY THE ENTIRE PERIOD. SINCE BMW KNEW OF THIS ISSUE THE WARRANTY SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UP TO 150K MILES. I WAS QUOTED $21,000 FOR NEW ENGINE, WHICH IS $5,000 MORE THAN ITS WORTH BEING VERY GENEROUS WITH VALUE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I ACTUALLY WANTED BUY ANOTHER BMW AS I JUST LISTED VEHICLE FOR SALE DAYS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. IM GLAD I DIDNT SELL MY CAR EVEN THOUGH IM AT A REAL FINANCIAL LOSS HERE. IT WOULDN'T BE RIGHT. BMW WASNT RIGHT TO CONCEAL THIS IN FIRST PLACE. I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. NOW THEY WANT CAPITALIZE ON NEW ENGINE PARTS AND LABOR. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED. DIESEL VEHICLES MUST BE ADDED TO RECALL.
I HAVE A 2014 328D F31 THREE WEEKS AGO WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, MY 328D SHIFTED TO P MID TURN, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. UPON TRYING TO RESTART IT, IT WOULD CRANK BUT NOT TURN OVER. (THANKFULLY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND GOING AT SLOW SPEED - AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE). WE HAD TO MANUALLY GET IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL TO BE ABLE TO PUSH IT INTO A PARKING SPOT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED. (THANKFULLY IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE DISINTEGRATED AS SOME OTHERS HAVE REPORTED). ALL OPEN RECALLS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED, AND GREAT EFFORTS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO ENSURE ONLY QUALITY, FRESH DIESEL HAS BEEN PUMPED IN THE CAR. BMW HAS OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS (NOT CHEAP) PART. HOWEVER, IT'S ONLY UP TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES, AND MY VEHICLE IS AT 128,000. I AM INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL THAT NO ONE WAS HURT, INJURED, OR WORSE IN THIS INCIDENT. BUT GIVEN THE HIGH FREQUENCY OF THIS HAPPENING AMONGST OTHER 328D OWNERS, AND THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS (MANY TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE), I WOULD EXPECT THAT BMW WOULD RECALL THIS VEHICLE AND GET THESE PARTS REPLACED BEFORE ANYTHING WORSE HAPPENS. IT HAPPENED QUICKLY AND SUDDENLY WITH NO PRIOR PERFORMANCE WARNINGS, CODES, OR LIGHTS. IN FACT WHEN RUNNING A FOXWELL SCHWABEN 14020SCH SCANNER, NO CODES ARE BEING RETURNED. AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY CONCERN OF COURSE IS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT PREVENTABLE WITH TRADITIONAL DIAGNOSTICS. MY GOOGLE RESEARCH SHOWS THE BOSCH FUEL PUMP WAS RECALLED IN OTHER MODELS, BUT THE RECALL EXEMPTED THE DIESEL VARIANTS. I CAN'T IMAGINE AN ITEM PRONE TO FAILURE, THAT'S NOT LISTED ON A REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE. THERE ARE MULTIPLE LAWSUITS OUT THERE ON THE BOSCH CP4 FUEL PUMPS. (HOWEVER CP4.2 SEEMS TO BE MORE RELIABLE THAN THE CP4.1).
HOOD WILL NOT OPEN DUE TO FAULTY CABLES AND LATCHES. UNABLE TO ACCESS THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO REPLACE FRONT HEADLIGHT BULBS OR REPLACE VEHICLE FUSES

WARNING COMES PARKING LIGHT MALFUNCTION AND WARNING REMAINS ON THE DASHBOARD BUT THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE PARKING LIGHT. IT WORKS JUST FINE. AFTER COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER WARNING GOES AWAY. AND AFTER COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER WARNING COMES BACK.

I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE OVER THE WEEKEND, THE CAR STOPS ON THE ROAD ABRUPTLY. THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL AND COMES TO A HALT ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR'S DASHBOARD INDICATED A WARNING "CHASSIS STABILIZATION" ERROR. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED MAYBE 2 MILES AND THIS TIME, IT STOPPED AT THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AGAIN. THIS TIME THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, I WAS REALLY FRIGHTENED SINCE THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME! IT WAS A VERY NARROW MISS! I AM HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO A BMW DEALER TO INSPECT IT. I ALSO REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO BMW CONSUMER AFFAIRS, I WAS ASKED TO CONTACT THE DEALER TO CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT.
PROBLEM DISCOVERED UPON INSPECTION FOR RECALL 18V-755 EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION COOLER, AFTER OVER SEVEN MONTHS NO PARTS, NO ACTION. *TR
I HAVE A 2014, 328D X-DRIVE. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR A ENGINE LIGHT AND THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES WHEN I START THE CAR. THE EXHAUST FUMES ARE VERY BAD. IF I START IT WITH THE AIR SYSTEM AT OFF I WILL NOT GET IT. THIS IS ONLY AT A STAND STILL AND THE WORST WHEN THE CARS STARTED. THE DEALER HAS DONE OVER $4000 IN REPAIRS AND HAVE REPLACED MANY FUEL INJECTORS. ONE OF THE REPAIRS THE MANIFOLD MELTED TO THE FUEL INJECTORS AND THEY REPLACED ALL. I'M STILL GETTING THE FUMES. VERY DISAPPOINTED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. THEY ONLY TELL ME TO SEE MY DEALER. THEY SAY THEY WILL START A REPORT. WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, THE POWER TO THE WHEELS IS NOT ENGAGED. HOWEVER, WHEN THE TIRE IS STRAIGHT, THE POWER ENGAGES. THIS ACTION PREVENTS YOU FROM DRIVING NORMALLY. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM BMW STATING AN EGR COOLER RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO BELLEVUE BMW AFTER SMELLING DIESEL INSIDE THE PASSENGER CABIN. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE OVER NIGHT AND HAD ME RENT A VEHICLE WHILE THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT. UPON RETURNING I WAS TOLD THAT MY EGR COOLER DID IN FACT NEED REPLACING. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE FIXING THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME BECAUSE THEY HAD A CATCHY LEGAL BLIND TO HIDE BEHIND. ' NO REMEDY AT THIS TIME'. THE SIMPLE TRUTH IS THEY COULD OF SOLD ME THE NEW EGR COOLER. BUT THEY CHOSE NOT TO DO THAT EITHER. I ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISER IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND HE ASSURED ME IT WAS. AS IT TURNS OUT HE LIED TO ME. A SHORT TIME LATER THE WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CAUGHT FIRE. THERE WAS SMOKE AND A BLACK SOOT BELLOWING OUT FROM BEHIND THE CAR AND WHEN I GOT PULLED OFF THE ROAD LARGE AMOUNTS OF THICK BLACK SMOKE BILLOWED OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT REPAIRED AT AN APPROVED REPAIR FACILITY. 2400.00 LATER THE CAR WAS BACK ON THE ROAD FOR A SHORT TIME. A SHORT WHILE LATER I GOT TO WORK AND NOTICED A LOUD CLICKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO BELLEVUE BMW AND THEY TRIED TO TELL ME THE SHOP WHERE I WAS GETTING MY OIL CHANGES DONE WERE NOT CHANGING MY OIL. THIS DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO MISDIRECT FAULT FROM KNOWINGLY PUTTING ME IN A POSITION TO BE HARMED FROM DECEITFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES AND BLATANT DISREGARD FOR MY SAFETY IS TRULY DISTURBING AND WOEFULLY DISAPPOINTING. GLIBLY I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST 26000.00 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE YET NOTHING LIKE AN ACTUAL PAPER REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS PRODUCED. ARE THESE PEOPLE JUST MAKING THIS STUFF UP AS THEY GO ALONG? NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OIL CONTAMINATION. WHILE THIS MODEL YEAR IS NOT SPECIFICALLY LISTED IN RECALL 10V-446 IT SOUNDS LIKE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. WAS THIS RECALL EXPANDED TO THE F30 PLATFORM? IF NOT SHOULD IT BE?
BLOWER MOTOR WHICH CONTROLS AIR FLOW FOR HEATING AND A/C SYSTEM , THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WIRING AND THE BLOWER MOTOR IS DETERIORATED ,THIS IS LEADING THE BLOWER TO ONLY BLOW HOT AIR AT ALL TIMES EVEN WHEN THE A/C IS ON ALSO MIGHT BE OVERHEATING THE CAR. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER
SMELLING EXHAUST ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO BMW DEALER THEY SAID MY FUEL INJECTORS WERE LEAKING AND HAVE MELTED TO THE MANIFOLD. I ASKED AND MADE A COMPLAINT WITH BMW AFTER SPENDING $3300. THAEY ALSO MENTIONED THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE EGR COOLER RECALL. I ASKED IF THIS CAUSED MY FUEL INJECTOR MANIFOLD PROBLEM THEY SAY NO. ENGINE LIGHT CAKE ON RECENTLY ALSO SMELLING FUEL AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THEY REPLACED #1 INJECTOR. DROVE IT FOR TWO WEEKS AND ENGINE LIGHT RETURNED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY ARE WAITING FOR A EXHAUST COOLER. I HAVE HAD A LONER FOR A WEEK NOW. ONE I HOPE I WILL NOT GET CHARGED AGAIN. WHILE PULLING SLOWLY INTO A PARKING LANE IN A RESIDENTIAL PULBIC LOT TO PARK, THE VEHICLE ENTERED INTO A SUDDEN HIGH ACCELERATION WITHOUT ANY DRIVER ADDITONAL INPUT. WE HAVE THE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED, AFTER THE CAR COMPLETED STALLED AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED, LUCKILY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT. SINCE WE HAVE HAD THE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS, WE WERE SOLD A LEMON, AND THE BMW COOPERATE OFFICE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING, AND I WAS INFORMED THEY ONLY WARRANTY THEIR CARS TO 50K. I WAS GIVEN A REASON OF PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE/MANUFACTURING DEFECT FROM THE DEALER. I LOST DRIVE FUCTIONS WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 BMW 328D XDRIVE. I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AS IF I HIT SOMETHING. THE COOLING FLUID COULD MIX WITH THE DIESEL ENGINE SOOT & MAY RESULT IN SMOLDERING PARTICLES. EGR VALVE ON 2014 328D BMW : ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE ON REPEATEDLY AFTER EACH ENGINE REPAIR. REPORTED ENGINE COOLANT HAD TO BE REFILLED BEFORE FIRST REPAIR. FIRST REPAIR CONSISTED OF 2 SENSORS FOR NOX AND 1 FILTERED AIR PIPE. ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN AND FOUND HOLE IN MELTED INTAKE MANIFOLD WHICH WAS REPLACED. ENGINE LIGHT REAPPEARED AGAIN. OWNER SUSPECTS EGR COOLER LEAKING INTERNALLY MIXING WITH DIESEL ENGINE SOOT. TOLD THIS TO SERVICE TECH AT BMW OF OCALA AND REPORTED ALSO TO BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. LOOKING TO BE REIMBURSED FOR PAST FAULTY ENGINE REPAIRS AND ASKING FOR RECALL ON VEHICLE FOR THIS ENGINE FAILURE WITH POTENTIAL FOR DEATH AND FIRE HAZARDS. ENGINE FAULT ON SCREEN MESSAGE SAID" DRIVE MODERATELY. MAXIMUM DRIVE TRAIN OUTPUT NOT AVAILABLE. CONSULT SERVICE CENTER"( WHICH I DID AND STILL HAS NOT FIXED IT PROPERLY).
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH OR SO THE VEHICLE'S ON-BOARD MESSAGE CENTER READ "DRIVE-TRAIN MALFUNCTION". I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS LOOSING MOMENTUM QUITE QUICKLY WHICH REQUIRED ME TO SWIFTLY, BUT SAFELY TO PULL OVER TO THE ROADWAY EDGE. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE ISSUE HAS PRESENTED ITSELF. THE FIRST TIME WAS A FEW MONTHS FROM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL LINES. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AND SENT ME OFF. A FEW MONTHS LATER I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE I.E. OIL CHANGE, INSPECTION, ETC. WHILE INSPECTING MY CAR THEY AGAIN FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL LINES. THEY AGAIN REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. JUST THIS WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 30, 2018, I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY AND AGAIN THE CAR WENT LIMP. NO POWER, LIMITED STEERING CONTROL, NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR. ESSENTIALLY A CATASTROPHIC EVENT BECAUSE WITHOUT POWER A VEHICLE IS A ROLLING PROJECTILE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN HAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. TOTAL COUNT FOR REPLACING FUEL SYSTEM (3).
EGR VALVE LOCKED OPEN, AS SEDIMENT ACCUMULATED IN THE VACUUM LINE FROM THE LEAKING OF ANTI-FREEZE INTO THE VALVE. MANIFOLD DEVELOPED HOLES, AS THE EGR OVERHEATED DUE THE VALVE LOCKING OPEN. THE SMELL OF ANTI-FREEZE AND DIESEL FILLED THE CAR AS SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE ENGINE, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. HAD TO HAVE THE MANIFOLD REPLACED, AS THE MANIFOLD HAD FOUR HOLES IN IT, AND THE EGR VALVE VACUUM LINE HAD TO BE CLEARED. REPORTED THE ISSUE TO KUNI BMW, WHO NEVER REPORTED THE ISSUE AND WARNED ME TO NOT DRIVE THE CAR IN THE CONDITION THAT IT WAS IN BEFORE THE REPAIR. KUNI ALSO SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF AN EGR VALVE ISSUE AND ANTI-FREEZE CAUSING SEDIMENT TO PLUG THE VACUUM LINE. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT BMW HAS HAD TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR 2015-2017 MODELS IN EUROPE AND S. KOREA. KUNI BMW KNEW OF THE RECALLS IN S. KOREA AND EUROPE WHEN THEY TALKED TO ME. I AM REPORTING THIS TO NTSB, AS BMW NA TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD ONLY MADE A INFORMAL REPORT TO NTSB, AND THEY FELT IT WAS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE. THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. ON JUNE 29TH, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00 PM I WAS STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WAITIN FOR AN ON COMING CAR TO PASS SO I COULD MAKE A LEFT TURN. AS SOON AS I STARTED TO GO I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION/LOINS GUN SHOT COMING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. I WAS EXTREMELY STARTLED, I AM LITERALLY SHAKING NOW JUST THINKING ABOUT HOW SCARY THIS WAS. IT ONLY TOOK A FEW SECONDS TO REALIZE THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERING ABOVE ME. I WAS ONLY A FEW MILES FROM HOME. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO ADVISE THEM WHAT HAD HAPPED AND SCHEDULE A REPAIR. I TOLD THEM THIS IS DEFECTIVE SUNROOF AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. HE COULDN'T CONFIRM THIS FOR ME I ASKED FOR SOMEONE TO CALL ME BACK TO CONFIRM, NO ONE CALLED BACK BUT I WAS LATER IN THE DAY ON A FRIDAY. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND I SEE THIS TYPE DO INCIDENT IS A PROBLEM. JUST THE FACT THAT YOU CAN BE STARTLED TO THAT EXTENT WHILE DRIVING IS QUITE DISTURBING AND DANGEROUS. MARCH 6, 2018, MY CAR STARTED SHAKING AS I MERGED FROM 101 TO 405 S IN LOS ANGELES. MESSAGE INDICATED A DRIVE TRAIN PROBLEM AND TO "DRIVE MODERATELY". CAR STOPPED AND WOULD NOT RESTART SECONDS LATER. WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW, WAS REAR ENDED AT A DEAD STOP. BMW SANTA MONICA FOUND METALS SHAVINGS IN FUEL LINE AND REPLACED FUEL SYSTEM; MY CAR ALSO HAD $13,000 OF BODY DAMAGE. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM - BMW SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE CAR TO FIX THE FUEL SYSTEM BEFORE I HAD AN ACCIDENT. NOW MY CAR IS DEVALUED AND I DO NOT HAVE SAME LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE IN DRIVING IT.

THIS WAS POTENTIALLY A CAUSE FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT. BMW DEALERSHIP INFORMED THAT THE CAUSE WAS THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP. VEHICLE IS AT 39,900 MILES, & IS COVER BY BMW CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY.
WHILE ACCELERATING MY 2014 BMW 328D I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND THE CAR HIT THE BRAKES SO HARD THAT THE SEAT BELT PINNED ME AGAINST THE SEAT AND MY CHEST HURT AFTER THAT FOR A COUPLE DAYS. ALSO THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HAD THE SAME LINE AS THE OFFICER AND HE DRAGGED THE CAR ON THE BED SINCE THE WHEELS WERE LOCKED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND BMW DIAGNOSED IT AS "FUEL PUMP BLEW UP INTERNALLY AND DISTRIBUTED METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AND THROUGH INJECTORS." 4 INJECTORS NEED REPLACEMENT ALONG WITH THE FUEL RAIL, THE FUEL PUMP AND REPAIRS MADE TOT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM INCLUDING THE TANK. BMW WILL COVER EVERYTHING SINCE THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY ( I AM AT 45 K MILES)! MOST TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE OF MY 40 YEARS LIFE IN A 50K+ CAR! BMW NEVER WARNED ME OF POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP FAILURE PROBLEM WITH THEIR DIESEL CARS AND NO CAR SHOULD PIN YOU WITH THE SEAT BELT AGAINST THE SEAT UNLESS IT'S AN ACCIDENT!
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON NOVEMBER 16TH AND WAS WITHIN A COUPLE MILES OF MY HOUSE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND A WHIRRING SOUND COMING FROM MY CAR. THERE WAS AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT POPPED UP STATING DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION, DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY.' THE CAR BECAME VERY JERKY AND I DROVE SLOWLY. I WAS FORTUNATE TO MAKE IT BACK TO MY DRIVEWAY, BUT THEN MY CAR COMPLETELY FAILED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THE TRANSFER CASE HAD FAILED. THANKFULLY I WASN'T INJURED IN A CAR WRECK WHEN THE IT FAILED. THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 46,500 MILES AND WAS COMPLETELY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS FORTUNATE TO GET HOME, BUT A COMPLETE FAILURE COULD HAVE LED TO BEING STRANDED OR WORSE, AN ACCIDENT.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ON OCT. 22, 2017 MY VEHICLE TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DISPLAYING AN ERROR SAYING "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION". THE CAR WENT FROM GOING 60MPH TO A DEAD STOP. I WAS STRANDED IN THE ROAD WHILE CARS WERE ZIPPING PAST ME AT LEAST 60MPH. I WAS IN SOME SERIOUS DANGER IF IT WASN'T FOR THE FAST RESPONSE OF THE TOW TRUCK TO GET ME OUT OF THERE (THE POLICE WERE CALLED AS WELL TO DO TRAFFIC CONTROL BUT THE TOW TRUCK SHOWED UP BEFORE THEY EVEN GOT THERE). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BMW DEALER. THEY RAN SOME TESTS AND TOLD ME IT WAS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE FUEL PUMP BROKE INTERNALLY AND DISTRIBUTED METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AND THROUGH MY INJECTORS. ALL 4 INJECTORS NEED REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUEL RAIL AND THE FUEL PUMP AND REPAIRS MADE TOT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. MY CAR IS ONLY AT 66K MILES. I DID SOME RESEARCH TO SEE IF THIS PROBLEM WAS RECALLED BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM TO HAVE. AFTER LOOKING, I SAW THAT A RECALL WAS SENT OUT FOR ALL BMW MODELS EXCEPT FOR THE 328D(DIESEL). WHY IS THAT? HOW DO YOU CLAIM SOMETHING IS UNSAFE ON A CAR USING THE SAME PARTS THAT JUST GOT RECALLED BUT EXCLUDED THE DIESEL MODEL. I HAVE READ SOMETHING STATING THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINT TOWARDS THE DIESEL MODEL BUT THE 328D WAS NOT PRODUCED NEARLY AS MUCH AS SAY THE 328I, SO OBVIOUSLY IT WILL HAVE FEWER COMPLAINTS. I CAN SEE RIGHT NOW 5 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE I AM HAVING THAT SAYS OTHERWISE. NOW I AM PAYING UPWARDS OF $16,000 DOLLARS DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE. HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM INCLUDING FUEL PUMPS, FUEL LINES, TANK ETC. TOOK CAR TO CREVIER BMW AND DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THE INCIDENT. 2014 2 SERIES, 3 SERIES, AND 4 SERIES ALL HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. THE DIESEL MODEL APPEARS TO BE THE ONLY ONE NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL AND CLEARLY IS DEFECTIVE.

AT 55K MILES IN APRIL 2017, IN FAST LANE OF FREEWAY, DRIVE-TRAIN MALFUNCTION MESSAGE DISPLAYED WITH SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS. CAR LOST POWER AS I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO CHANGE MULTIPLE LANES TO SHOULDER AS CAR LOST COMPLETE POWER. BMW SOS DID NOT FUNCTION. IT TOOK 3 TOW DRIVERS AND 3 HOURS TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE SYSTEM TO GET CAR IN NEUTRAL TO SAFELY PUT ON TRUCK. BMW ADVISED THEY WOULD HAVE TO JACK CAR AND REMOVE TRANSMISSION PANEL TO MANUALLY PUT IN 'DRIVE' WHICH WAS NOT AN OPTION ON THE NARROW SHOULDER OF I-10 IN CA. DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND 'EXPLODED' SENDING METAL PARTICLES THROUGH ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. DEALER ADVISED OVER $10K IN PARTS HOWEVER BMW COVERED UNDER THE 'CA EMISSIONS WARRANTY.' ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED (TANK, LINES, INJECTORS AND PUMP). GOING ABOUT 60MPH, MY CAR COMPLETELY LOSES POWER AND SHUTS DOWN. POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION LOSS OF POWER FLASH ON THE SCREEN. IVE HAD THE CAR FOR 20 DAYS, AND AT 52000 MILES. 2000 OVER MY WARRANTY. BMW IS AUOTIBG NE $5,000 TO FIX THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND SYSTEM, FUEL RAIL SENSOR, AND FUEL RAIL PRESSURE VALVE WHICH ALL ULTIMATELY WORK TOGETHER. BUT BMW HAS ALREADY RECALLED ALL OTHER 2014 328 MODELS FOR THE EXACT SAME FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS IM HAVING EXCEPT THE 328D MODEL WAS THE ONLY ONE LEFT OUT????! BMW MAKES VERY FEW OF THESE MODELS TO BEGIN WITH, SO NATURALLY THERE ARENT GOING TO VE AS MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE 328D IF THERE ARE FEWER PRODUCED. ITS COMMON SENSE. LOOKING THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS ON SAFECAR.GOV 98% OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THE CAR ULTIMATELY COME TO SOME SORT OF FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSING LOSS OF POWER AND TOTAL SHUT DOWN. AT 60 MPH AND 2 BABIES IN MY BACK SEAT IT WAS MORE THAN SCARY. IM DISGUSTED WITH BMW LEAVING OUT AND NOT RECALLING THE 328D WHEN THEY DID ALL THE OTHERS. I MEAN WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET SOME ANSWERS AROUND HERE ON THIS WHEN THERE ARE MULTIPLE UPON MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS?? I MEAN I GOT ON MY PHONE IMMEDIATELY AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOS EVEN CAME ON MY SPEAKERS JUST OFF OF THE TERRIBLE REVIEWS AND COMPLAINTS PEOPLE ARE SAYING OFF THE INTERNET ALONE! THE BMW SERVICE CENTER ALSO TOLD ME ALL OF THAT EXACT YEAR AND MODEL THAT THEY HAVE HAD IN THERE LATELY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE!! THIS IS A COST I CANNOT EVEN AFFORD AT THE MOMENT, ESPECIALLY FOR A VEHICLE 2000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. AND IS BASICALLY A BRAND NEW CAR AND TO ALREADY BE FAULTY?? I'M AFRAID TO EVEN DRIVE IT AGAIN ONCE IT DOES GET FIXED, BEING THAT THEY ARE REPLACING THE PARTS THAT JUST FAILED!! WITH THE EXACT SAME PARTS?!!! ALL 3 SERIES FROM 2014 WERE RECALLED BY BMW EXCEPT DIESELS. MY CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD 328 DIESEL AND THE FUEL PUMP DISINTEGRATED CAUSING ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM TO BE CONTAMINATED WITH NICKEL SHAVINGS. THE RECALLED GAS BMWS FROM 2014 EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS SO CLEARLY MY CAR HAS THE SAME FAULTY FUEL PUMP WITH IMPROPER NICKEL PLATING INSTALLED, AND SHOULD ALSO BE UNDER THIS RECALL. SINCE I COMMUTE (HENCE DIESEL) A LOT AND MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY DESPITE THE FACT IS 3 YEARS OLD I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUTRAGEOUS $13,000 TO RESURRECT IT. IN FACT I ALMOST DIED WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED WITH THE INFAMOUS "POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE. I HAD A HARD TIME PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY CAR, JUST LIKE ANY 2014 GASOLINE VERSIONS, SHOULD BE UNDER THE SAME BMW RECALL AND THE FUEL SYSTEM SHOULD BE REPLACED BY THE COMPANY FOR FREE, NOT A THIRD OF THE PRICE OF THE CAR! I HAVE PICTURES OF FUEL TANK FULL OF NICKEL PARTICLES, AND THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF. THEY ARE MADE BY BOSH NOT BMW AND CLEARLY NOT DONE PROPERLY. THE NEW PUMP IS DIFFERENT NOW SO BMW FIXED IT, YET THEY DON'T ADMIT THEY EVEN CHANGED THIS PART. IF THEY NOTIFIED THEIR COSTUMERS, I'D JUST REPLACED THE PUMP FOR $1250, NOT AN ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM FOR SUCH ENORMOUS PRICE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND SUCH FAULTY CARS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED FOR SALE IN US. IF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP DESTROYS ITSELF AND THE ENTIRE FUELS SYSTEM INCLUDING LOW PRESSURE PUMP AND EVEN A FUEL TANK, THIS IS CLEARLY A BADLY DESIGN CAR. I HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS JUST AFTER 1.5 YEARS OF USING THE CAR (I PURCHASED BRAND NEW) BECAUSE OF A SLOW PILLING NICKEL SHAVINGS. I HAVE THIS CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND ALREADY PAID OVER $10,000 FOR MAINTENANCE! THIS HAPPENED IN THE CITY DRIVING AROUND A ROUNDABOUT AT NIGHT AND CAR WAS IN MOTION.

THIS MORNING WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS SLOW AND NO ONE REAR ENDED THE CAR. THE COPS WERE THERE MOMENTARILY AND HELP GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. THERE IS NO POLICE REPORT AS NO ACCIDENT RESULTED FROM THE INCIDENT. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. A TWO YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 24000 MILES ON THE CLOCK SHOULD NOT PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION LIKE THIS ONE. THERE MUST BE A MAJOR DESIGN ISSUE WITH SOME COMPONENT THAT BMW HAS BEEN IGNORING TO ADDRESS FOR YEARS GOING BACK TO 2007. BY THE WAY THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE STALL HAPPENED ON THIS CAR. ALMOST A YEAR OR SO AGO THE ENGINE DIED JUST AFTER I LEFT MY HOME TO WORK. THE CAR WAS FIXED BY BMW UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAULTS WERE CLEARED, BUT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE FAILURE, NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, 6 MONTHS AND 9000 MILES LATER, A SENSOR WAS REPLACED, FAULTS CLEARED, NO FURTHER ACTION TAKEN. THE THIRD TIME, SIX WEEKS LATER, A FUEL QUANTITY CONTROL VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE CAR HAS JUST BEEN TOWED FOR A FOURTH TIME. ON 3 OF THE 4 OCCURRENCES, THE CAR WAS ON A HIGHWAY OR BUSY STREET, AT ONE TIME TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THE LAST TIME WAS TURNING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY, NARROWLY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON A DOWNTOWN CITY BLOCK, STALLING IN AN INTERSECTION AT LOW SPEED.

I PULLED SLOWLY INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE GAS STATION. I STOPPED AND I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I WAS PRESSING THE PARK BUTTON WHEN THE CAR SURGED FORWARD, ACCELERATED OVER THE CURB AND INTO THE OUTSIDE WALL OF THE STORE.
