component: headlight covers, fogged risk: significantly reduced headlight illumination confirmed: Fields BMW service Winter Park Florida inspected by Fields BMW service Winter Park Florida No warning lamps/messages/other symptoms Message sent to email: bmwgenius@bmwusa.com -- "2014 BMV X1 headlight covers are fogged. "This safety concern has no solution besides buying $2,000 new headlight covers. This according to local dealer, Fields BMW Winter Park, Florida. "I believe this is a safety concern that should be remedied by BMW at a reasonable cost."
I believe manufacturers are suppossed to provide replacement parts for 10 years. It appears BMW is circumventing this law by makinig it harder and more expensive to get replacement parts before ten years has passed by making owners purchase unnecessary parts as an assembly. First case with my BWM X1- The inside door handle has a snap-in plastic cover coated with a rubber/plastic compound that deteriorates over time into a gooey substance that comes off onto your hand when entering or exiting the car. The dealer requires owner to purchase the whole door panel costing well over $1,000 not including the labor. The part itself can be purchased on eBay from China for approximately $16. Snaps on. Second case is for my BMW 2011 335i convertible. The dealer ran the car through their car wash and one piece of the convertible hardtop trim (plastic) broke. The dealer told me I had to pay over $680 (after discount) for a set of 6 trim pieces even though I needed just one. BMW used to sell the individual parts, but now they don't. IN addition to the parts, I'd have to pay to have the body shop paint the parts and then the labor to install them. Almost $1,000 to replace one plastic part not worth $25. Kit PN 54-37-5-A19-AA4, part I need was PN 54377184037. Second incident just happened this week. Although my 335i is now 10 years old, they were selling the kit several years ago, long before the ten years were up. They are deliberately forcing people to not repair their vehicles by pricing the parts so high that the owners can't afford it.
Driving down I-89 in Vermont, just South of Montpelier, we were driving at highway speeds toward a construction zone, suddenly, all of the power to the car cut out. There was no warning, no lights, no “bing bong” of the car to let us know there was an issue, it just stopped. We had less than 10 seconds to make a decision. When the car lost power, We had no power brakes or steering. We were in the section with concrete barriers on both sides and no shoulder. This is the most dangerous situation I can think of. We noticed an on ramp merge lane just ahead and managed to coast into it just in time to loose all momentum before the steep hill. The car had been in for service less than a month prior. When I had it towed to the Automaster, they told me that it could be the timing chain. We found out later that the timing chain is known to be faulty in these engines (though we were not informed of this earlier). We learned (by searching on line) there was a class action law suit and that these engines are known to have this problem around 100K miles. I was told that I have to spend $1500 to determine if it is the timing chain and if so, It will only be covered "maybe up to 50%" by the warranty. The cost of a new engine is $15,000 and I just paid off my loan on the car the day before we left for vacation. If this problem is known to BMW Of North America, why is this not a recall item? We were put in a very dangerous situation and if our kids or my clients were in the car at the time, it could have turned out very differently. We were very lucky, but this is a really dangerous situation to be in, for a car that is less than 7 years old and under 100K miles that has been maintained diligently. We feel this should be a safety recall item that BMW should be responsible for. Timing chains should not brake like that. I have never been so terrified and felt so out of control in a vehicle before. No one should have to go through that.
2014 X1 X28I W/ N20 ENGINE, 3/2013 PRODUCTION DATE, 6/2013 IN-SERVICE DATE, 86K MILES, BOUGHT AS CPO. HAVE MAINTAINED PER CBM, ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY AT DEALER. AS A "CLASS VEHICLE" OWNER, I HAVE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT REGARDING THE TIMING & OIL PUMP CHAIN SYSTEMS ON THE N20/N26 MOTORS. STARTING TO HEAR THE TIMING/OIL CHAIN WHINE, BUT THIS IS A DIFFICULT THING TO QUANTIFY. HAVE NOTICED TIMING CHAIN CAN BE QUITE SLACK AS OBSERVED THROUGH THE OIL FILL CAP. TOOK TO DEALER, THEY LISTENED BUT SAID "NOTHING HEARD AT THIS TIME." REFUSED MY REQUEST TO ENDOSCOPE FOR DEBRIS THROUGH OIL DRAIN PAN OR FILL CAP, WANTED SEVERAL HUNDRED $$ TO CHECK VIA OIL LEVEL SENSOR PORT INSTEAD. ALSO WANTED ANOTHER SEVERAL HUNDRED $$ TO CHECK TIMING CHAIN TENSION, AN EXCESSIVE FEE FOR 30 MINUTES OF LABOR. QUOTED ME NEARLY $6K FOR UPGRADING THE TIMING AND OIL CHAIN SYSTEM PARTS PER THEIR TSB, AND SAID IT WOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO THE COST SHARING TERMS OF THE LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT. VERY FRUSTRATING TO NOT GET BETTER SUPPORT FROM A LUXURY BRAND FOR A KNOWN AND ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM. IT IS OBVIOUS THEY ARE ENCOURAGING THE OWNER TO WAIT UNTIL THE PROBLEM GETS "BAD ENOUGH", BUT BY THEN THE CLOCK MIGHT HAVE RUN OUT, AND MUCH MORE DAMAGE AND DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ARE MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR. THIS IS NOT A NICE WAY TO TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS, BMW. I'M SURE YOU DON'T WANT YOUR AIRCRAFT MECHANICS THINKING ABOUT MAINTENANCE THE SAME WAY, DO YOU?
MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE ON 12/05/2020. THERE WERE NO KNOWN RECALLS. TOTAL LOSS.... STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BREVARD COUNTY, FL. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA HAS INDICATED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS SO SEVERE THAT THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AND WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY!!
TWICE THE SHIFT GEARS SUCH AS PLACING CAR IN PARK OR DRIVE, IT FROOZE UP TWICE ONCE IN THE CARE OF THE SERVICE CENTER AT CARMAX AND 2ND TIME BACKING UP FROM MY HOUSE AND THE CAR SHIFT WOULDNT GO INTO TO DRIVE MODE , MY HUSBAND HAD TO PUSH CAR INTO DRIVE WAY. IT WAS IN MOTION IN REVERSE AND BACK UP ONTO THE CITY STREET AND IT WOULDNT MOVE TO DRIVE
BMW HAS REPORTED AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR A TIMING CHAIN AND OIL PUMP DRIVE CHAIN. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL POSTS ONLINE THAT SAY THE ENGINE FAILED COMPLETELY. WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IS WHY THIS HAD NOT BEEN A RECALL. I HAVE SEEN OTHER MANUFACTURERS RECALL CARS, RECENTLY ONE EVEN SAID THAT IT MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF POTENTIAL FAILURE. WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON THE CAR AND IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY OUR DEALER BUT AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT FAILURE ON A HIGHWAY. I AM SORRY, I HAD TO PUT A DATE BELOW IN ORDER TO GO TO NEXT PAGE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON - CODES SET FOR FUEL LEVEL SENSORS AND ENGINE THERMOSTAT AND SENSOR. I WAS DRIVING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NEVER RAN VEHICLE OUT OF GAS AND ALWAYS SERVICED AT THE DEALER. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FUEL LEVEL SENSORS, FUEL PUMP KIT AND THERMOSTAT
COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE AT 82,000 MILES, MY 2014 BMW X1 WOULD NOT START. MY MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROB AND MY ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE, AS IT WAS MADE WITH A PLASTIC TIMING BELT COVER, WHICH DEGRADES OVER TIME & DESTROYS YOUR ENGINE BETWEEN 70-85K MILES. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WHICH ENDED 2 YEARS AGO, WHICH REQUIRED AN EXTENDED 7YR/70K WARRANTY. THERE IS ALSO NO PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PLAN FOR THE TIMING CHAIN AND THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY $3-13,000 EACH. THIS DEFECTIVE ENGINE WAS OUT IN SUPERCHARGER BMW ENGINES BETWEEN 2014-2017. I PERFORMED EVERY OIL CHANGE & PM ON MY VEHICLE AND IT JUST DIED, WHEN I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY. I'M STILL DRIVING A 2000 BMW Z3 WITH 168K MILES. THEY SOLD ME AN ENGINE THEY KNEW WOULD FAIL AND THEY WILL NOT HELP ME REPAIR MY CAR, BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS ALSO TAKING IT TO BMW SERVICE CENTERS FOR SERVICE AND IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED ABOUT THE TIMING CHAIN WEARING OUT. VERY DISMAYED & DISAPPOINTED. I COULD HAVE BROKE DOWN ANYWAY AND BEEN UNSAFE.
TOXIC MOLD IN VENTILATION PLUMBING. MAKES ALL OF US SICK IF WE TURN ON AC, HEAT, OR DEFROST. AS A RESULT CAN'T SEE OUT OF WINDSHIELD WHEN IT GETS FOGGED UNLESS WE ALL WANT TO GET SICK. MECHANIC IS STATING THERE IS NO SOLUTION FOR THIS. HE HAS CONSULTED BMW DEALERSHIP MECHANICS AND THEY ARE STATING THE SAME INFORMATION. THE ONLY SOLUTION GIVEN WAS TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE DASH, ALL VENTILATION PLUMBING AND HAND CLEAN IT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WILL COME BACK.
2014 BMW X1 TRANSMISSION MOVES FROM DRIVE TO PARK WHILE IN MOTION. NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AFTER OR BEFORE THE OCCURANCE. WHEN ENGAGING REVERSE OR DRIVE GEARS ON THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION WILL LOCK BRING THE CAR TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE CAR CANNOT BE STEERED IN ANY DIRECTION TO MOVE IT OUT OF HARMS WAY. ONCE THE CAR GOES TO PARK POSITION, I CAN MOVE THE HANDLE TO RE ENGAGE A GEAR. THE CAR MOVES SLIGHTLY THEN TRANSMISSION FREEZES FORCING IT BACK INTO PARK. I WILL TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY TO ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION REPEATEDLY AND SOMEHOW THINGS GET MOVE. THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED I WENT ONLINE, AND FOUND INFORMATION ABOUT RELEASING THE TRANSMISSION. IT INVOLVES AN NUMBER OF STEPS, AND SO FAR WORKS. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I BLOCKED AN INTERSECTION FOR SOMETIME BEFORE BEING ABLE TO FOLLOW THE STEPS I FOUND ONLINE TO GET THE CAR DRIVING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SCARY SITUATION AND DANGEROUS IF NOT DEADLY FOR ME AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. THE CAR WILL GO TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK, AND I'M DRIVING A RENTAL NOW. I AM REPORTING THIS TO YOUR AGENCY, AS I HAVE NOTICED OTHER BMW X1 OWNERS HAVE NOTED THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN A CAR MOVES FROM DRIVE TO THE PARK POSITION WHILE IN MOTION,IT IS A BAD SITUATION. PLEASE NOTIFY ME REGARDING THIS COMMUNICATION. THIS HAPPENED ONCE IN 2015, 2018 AND 4 TIMES IN OCTOBER 2020.
MY CAR SMELLS LIKE MOLD AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ISOLATE THE ISSUE TO REMOVE THE SMELL. I AM CONCERNED IT POSES A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK IF MOLD IS GROWING. THERE IS NOT WATER IN THE VEHICLE AS I HAVE CHECKED THE FLOOR BOARDS AND CUSHIONS. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE A/C FILTER AND CHECKED THE WATER DRAINS FOR THE SUN ROOF. ALL SEEM TO BE WORKING CORRECTLY.

I HAVE BEEN ALERTED BY THE DEALER (BMW) THAT THE TIMING CHAIN ON THE VEHICLE IS COMING LOOSE. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES, IS SIX (6) YEARS OLD AND AVERAGES >14,000 MILES PER YEAR. IT HAS HAD NO OTHER MAINTENANCE ISSUES EXCEPT A THERMOSTAT, WHICH WAS REPLACED TWICE AT COST TO THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS INFORMED THAT BMW PROVIDED A WARRANTY OF 7-YEARS/70,000 MILES ON THE TIMING CHAIN, HOWEVER THE CAR IN QUESTION HAS SURPASSED THE MILEAGE CONSTRAINTS. I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH AND HAVE NOTICED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS BY OTHER BMW OWNERS THAT THE N20 ENGINE INSTALLED IN A FEW DIFFERENT MODELS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE---MEANING THAT BMW IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT, BUT IS NOT INFORMING CONSUMERS, AND INSTEAD, PASSING ALONG THE COST AND POTENTIAL HARM. *TR
VEHICLE IGNITION TURNED OVER AND BEFORE 30 SECONDS I NOTICED SMOKE IN MY PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A SMALL ELECTRICAL FIRE BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR HANDLE. THE VALET LIGHTING WAS NOT INVOLVED BUT I BELIEVE IT WAS THE TOUCH SENSOR USED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT AND I WAS ABLE TO SMOTHER THE FIRE WITH A WET TOWEL AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE IGNITION ETC. MELTED PLASTIC AND RUBBER WAS NOTED.
WINDOW REGULATOR WENT BAD AND STARTED HEARING SOUND JUST LIKE WINDOW CRACK.

THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THREE ALTERNATORS AND FOUR BATTERIES INSTALLED IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT PURCHASED AN INDEPENDENT EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS NOT THROUGH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE, I HEARD A LARGE BOOM AND I NOTICED FLYING PIECES OF GLASS WHEN I CHECKED THE REVIEW WINDOW. I PULLED OVER, GOT OUT OF CAR TO LOOK FOR DAMAGE SAW NONE BUT COULD HEAR GLASS FRAGMENTS WHEN I BEGAN TO MOVE AGAIN. I WAS ONLY BLOCKS FROM MY DESTINATION AND CHECKED THE ROOF TO SEE THE BROKEN MOON ROOF. NOTHING IMPACTED THE CAR SO THE WINDOW BROKE ON ITS OWN. I CHECKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF SPONTANEOUS BREAKAGE OF THE MOON ROOFS BUT MY SON REMEMBER SEEING A NEW SEGMENT ON ABC REGARDING THIS AND SENT ME THE LINK WHICH IS WHY I AM FOLLOWING UP WITH THIS COMPLAINT. I TOOK A PICTURE BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT FROM MY PHONE TO THIS SITE.
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON PAPER MILL ROAD IN NEWARK, DELAWARE AND HEARD A "KERTHUNK" FROM THE ENGINE. HE PULLED OVER TO THE HARD SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, SAW HE HAD NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING, AND THEN SAW OIL GUSHING ONTO THE ROAD FROM THE MOTOR. A FEW MINUTES LATER, AS HE WAS SITTING IN THE STATIONARY CAR, HE SAW THE HOOD OF THE CAR STARTING TO BUBBLE. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR WENT UP IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE -- THAT PROCESS TOOK AROUND 15 MINUTES. THE DELAWARE STATE PATROL (OFFICER FERGUSON) ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AND HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE CAR HAD BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE BMW DEALER FOR A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT 9 DAYS BEFORE THE FIRE. BMW USA ISSUED A NOTICE IN JULY 2017 ABOUT ISSUES WITH A THERMOSTAT IN THE X1. THE THERMOSTAT WAS THE ONLY PART REPLACED BY THE DEALER DURING SERVICE (NB: THERE HAD ALSO BEEN A NORMAL OIL CHANGE MAINTENANCE AT THE END OF AUGUST BY THE SAME DEALER.)
TAKATA RECALL
TAKATA RECALL. I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 2014 BMW X1 IN THE WINTER OF 2015, JUST A YEAR AFTER LEASING THIS VEHICLE. A CAR HIT ME SO HARD FROM BEHIND, THAT I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, TOTALING MY CAR COMPLETELY. I WAS SENT TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE MY AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THIS HAS CAUSED ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN MEDICAL BILL THAT MY HEALTH INSURANCE DID NOT COVER. IF THE AIRBAGS WENT OFF, I MAY NOT HAVE HIT MY HEAD AND WOULD HAVE SAVED ME FROM GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. THIS RECALL COULD HAVE CAUSED OTHERS WITH A MORE SEVERE ACCIDENT POSSIBLE DEATH. THEREFORE BMW SHOULD NOT ONLY REPLACE THE DEFECTED AIRBAGS BUT ALSO COMPENSATE EVERYONE WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES DRIVING THIS MACHINE THAT COULD HAVE KILLED THEM.

TAKATA RECALL- I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE MILLIONS OF CARS IMPACTED BY THE RECALL OF THE TAKATA AIRBAGS, HOWEVER, I ALSO AM STUNNED THAT IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR AND THE SAME VERY DANGEROUS AIRBAGS HAVE NOT YET BEEN REPLACED IN MY CAR BY BMW AS OF THIS DATE. NOT A COMFORTING FEELING!! WHEN I CALLED ABOUT IT, BMW SAID THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON A "HIGH PRIORITY" LIST- PLEASE HAVE THEM TELL THAT TO MY FAMILY IF I- MY HUSBAND, OR MY CHILDREN- SHOULD DIE IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE UNCORRECTED AIRBAG SITUATION! IS THERE A WAY THAT YOUR AGENCY CAN HELP REQUIRE FASTER REPLACEMENTS? JUST WONDERING.......
TAKATA RECALL - THE RECALL HAPPENED FEBRUARY 5, 2016. IT IS NOW JULY 29, 2017. THAT IS OVER A YEAR AND A HALF, AND I HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH MEANS I AM WAY DOWN THE LIST TO BE FIXED. I THINK A YEAR AND A HALF OF DIVING AROUND WITH UNSAFE AIRBAGS IS ENOUGH. ANOTHER PERSON WAS KILLED BY EXPLODING AIRBAGS JUST THIS WEEK, I HEARD IN THE NEWS. GET MINE FIXED NOW!

TAKATA RECALL-I WAS NOTIFIED OVER A YEAR AGO FEB 2016 OF THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I CALLED MONTHLY FOR A WHILE AND WAS TOLD AT ONE POINT THEY ARE CHANGING THE AIRBAGS IN NEW DEALER VEHICLES TO BE SOLD. TAKATA RECALL - I PURCHASED A BMW X1 SAV 2014 FROM A JACKSONVILLE, FL BMW DEALER (TOM BUSH BMW ORANGE PARK) ON FEBRUARY 2, 2017. THE DEALER STATED MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE SALES PROCESS THAT THE RECALLED AIRBAG WAS FIXED, "SO THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT". UPON BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME DEALER FOR SERVICE ON APRIL 18, 2017, THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS STILL EQUIPPED WITH RECALLED AIRBAGS. UPON DEMANDING REMEDY, THE DEALER STATED THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG PARTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL FALL 2017. THEREFORE, THE DEALER MISREPRESENTED THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE SALE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PROVIDE A LOANER OR RENTAL VEHICLE. THE DEALER FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT NO PERSONS RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THE VEHICLE.

I PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM A NON-BMW DEALER AT 40,500 MILES IN DEC. 2016. THE VEHICLE MOVED LEFTWARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS CENTERED. THE DSC/ESC MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH ANOTHER ESC SYMBOL WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT PRESENTED IN THE CENTER IP MESSAGE AREA LIGHT. THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF WHEN THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. THE LIGHT CAME ON (AND OFF) SEVERAL TIMES OVER 3000 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR TO A BMW SERVICE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT A STEERING SYSTEM FAULT HAD BEEN STORED, BUT ONLY ONCE SO THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING EXCEPT PERFORM AN ALIGNMENT. AFTER SERVICE WAS COMPLETED, I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT IT STILL PULLED LEFT AND THE DSC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I RETURNED TO THE BMW SHOP WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON AND THEY LOOKED AT IT AGAIN. THEY ENDED UP ALIGNING THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND REPLACED THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR. AFTER ANOTHER FEW HUNDRED MILES THE DSC LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON AGAIN.

WHILE DRIVING THE 2014 BMW X1 AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60MPH) THE FRONT GLASS PANEL OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. THE EXPLOSION CAUSED A SHOCKING BOOM, AND SOME SMALL FRAGMENTS OF TEMPERED GLASS FELL INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE CAR, SOME FRAGMENTS BLEW INTO THE VEHICLE BEHIND US AND SOME FRAGMENTS REMAINED SHATTERED IN-PLACE. WHEN ABLE TO PULL OVER AND INSPECT, THE GLASS SEEMED TO SHATTER OUTWARD, AND NO OBJECT THAT MAY HAVE IMPACTED THE GLASS COULD BE FOUND. "TAKATA RECALL" I RECEIVED THE NOTICE FROM BMW BACK IN LATE FEBRUARY / EARLY MARCH 2016 REGARDING THIS RECALL. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY NINE MONTHS NOW SINCE I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE AND I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT IT IS TAKING TO ADDRESS THE TAKATA AIRBAG SITUATION. I KNOW THAT IT STATES IN ONE OF MY NOTICES FROM BMW THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME AND THAT THEY WILL NOTIFY ME ONCE THEY HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS, BUT I THINK 9 MONTHS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME. I AM NOT SURE OF WHEN BMW FIRST KNEW THAT MY VEHICLE HAD THE RECALLED AIRBAG BUT IT MAKES ME WONDER IF THEY SOLD ME THE CAR KNOWING THAT THE AIRBAG WAS DEFECTIVE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR

TAKATA RECALL - I AM CURRENTLY STUCK WITH A CAR THAT I DO NOT LIKE AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH SINCE I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IT IN 2014. I HAVE HAD EVERY INTENTION OF TRADING THIS CAR IN, BUT NOW WITH THE RECALL, I AM STUCK WITH IT. BMW HAS BEEN TOTALLY RUDE AND GIVES NO INFORMATION ON WHEN THE AIRBAGS WILL BE AVAILABLE. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE, MY SERVICE REP SAID THAT THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IF I DIED DUE TO THE AIRBAG, MY FAMILY WOULD AT LEAST BE RICH. WE HAVE CONTACT BMW AND THEY TELL US THAT THE AIRBAG WE HAVE ISN'T REALLY PART OF THE RECALL, BUT SINCE ALL OF THEM HAVE TO BE REPLACED, OUR CAR IS ON THE LIST. WE ARE SEEING ARTICLES THAT SAY THAT BMW HAS UNTIL 2020 TO REPLACE IT. DOES THAT MEAN I AM STUCK WITH THIS THING? WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF PURCHASING THE CAR, THE SOUND SYSTEM DIED IN THE CAR. THE CAR HAS LOCKED ME OUT OF IT AT THE GAS STATION (KEYS IN THE CAR), THE ALARM HAS GONE OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. IT WILL SUDDENLY SOUND AN ALARM THAT MY PASSENGER NEEDS TO WEAR IT'S SEAT BELT WHEN THERE IS NO PASSENGER AND NOTHING IS ON THE SEAT. AND NOW I HAVE THIS AIRBAG PROBLEM. I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AND BMW HAS NOT BE HELPFUL AT ALL. *TR

HAVE TRIED AT 4 OR 5 TIMES TO GET STATUS OF AIRBAG RECALL AND ESTIMATE OF WHEN WORK WILL BE DONE. BMW OF HONOLULU IS UNRESPONSIVE TO MY REQUESTS. REQUEST ESTIMATED DATE OF WHEN REPAIRS CAN BE PERFORMED FOR THIS AIR BAG RECALL.

VEHICLE SEATBELTS DO NOT CROSS OVER CHEST FOR ME. THERE IS NOT A SEATBELT ADJUSTER LIKE MOST VEHICLES HAVE SO THE SEAT BELT CUTS ACROSS MY NECK AND LOCKS UP ON MY NECK WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES. I SPOKE WITH BMW CONSUMER AND THEY RECOMMEND PURCHASING A CUSHION BUT THAT STILL DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. ITS LIKE THE SEAT BELT IS CHOKING OR STRANGLING ME WHEN BRAKING. ALSO MY KEYLESS ENTRY DOES NOT WORK FROM A DISTANCE LIKE MOST VEHICLES. I HAVE TO BE ON THE CAR PRESSING AND PRESSING. I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED LIKE BMW RECOMMENDED AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK. HOWEVER ON THEIR NEW MODEL VEHICLE THE NEW KEYLESS ENTRIES WORK FROM A DISTANCE.

TAKATA RECALL" MY BMW DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. I DON'T FEEL SAF DRIVING MY CAR NOW. WHAT SHOULD (CAN) I DO?
I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION ON A CITY STREET WHERE I WANTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON TO ANOTHER CITY STREET. SINCE THE LIGHT WAS RED I APPLIED MY BRAKES SLOWLY AND TRIED TO COAST TO A GENTLE STOP BEHIND OF A TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. AS I SLOWED DOWN TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, MY BREAK PEDDLE LOST ALL PRESSURE AND THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL AND REAR ENDED THE TRUCK INFRONT OF ME. LUCKILY I HAD ALREADY SLOWED DOWN CONSIDERABLY BEFORE THE BRAKES ON MY CAR COMPLETLY FAILED. AFTER I REAR ENDED THE TRUCK I PUT MY CAR INTO PARK, THEN INTO REVERSE TO BACK AWAY FROM THE TRUCK. AT THAT POINT MY BREAKS SEAM TO RETURN TO NORMAL FUNCTION. FORTUNATELY PRIOR TO COLLISION I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT I LIGHTLY BUMPED THE TRUCK'S BUMPER AND DID NOT PUSH THE TRUCK INTO THE CAR THAT WAS INFRONT OF HIM. HIS TRUCK WAS UNDAMAGED BECAUSE I HIT HIS TOW HITCH,BUT MY LICENSE PLATE AND FRONT BUMPER WERE SLIGHTLY DENTED. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR MY BRAKE PEDDLE SEEMED VERY SENSITIVE, BUT I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE PEDDLE HAS SOFTENED UP. AFRAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR AFTER THE INCIDENT I HAD MY SON DRIVE ME HOME. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH HE FOUND THAT THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL (NHTSA #14V627000 & #13V454000) FOR MY CAR (AS WELL AS HIS 2014 BMW 328I) THAT INCLUDES OUR MAKE, MODELS AND YEARS THAT IS CONSISTANT WITH EXACTLY WHAT HAD OCCURRED. BUT WHEN WE INPUT OUR VIN NUMBERS, OUR CARS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS. WE HAVE CHECKED THE BMW SITE AS WELL AS THE NHTSA SITES WITH THE SAME RESULTS. WE HAVE SCHEDUALED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE CARS BREAKS INSPECTED AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS MAY NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE OUR VIN DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE INCLUDED THE VEHICLES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 BMW X1. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED AND THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V627000 (SERVICE BRAKES), EVEN THOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
2014 BMW X-1. ATTORNEY REPRESENTING CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER ASSIST BRAKE FAILURE ACCIDENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN THE STOP/START SYSTEM ON HER VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, THE CONSUMER REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD A SHORT DISTANCE. HOWEVER, ANOTHER VEHICLE OF THE CONSUMER STOPPED. THE CONSUMER RELIED ON THE POWER ASSIST BRAKES, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT PROMPTLY RESTART WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE MULTIPLE TIMES. CONSEQUENTLY, SHE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND ULTIMATELY REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. *JB
THIS CAR WAS PARKED IN MY SUNNY DRIVEWAY, AMBIENT TEMP ~85 DEGREES F. SEVERAL HOURS LATER, I RETURNED TO DRIVE IT AND FOUND THE REAR GLASS OVER THE HATCH TRUNK LID BROKEN INTO THOUSANDS OF EQUAL PARTS, BUT ALL IN PLACE WITH NO INDENTATION OR EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING HAVING IMPACTED THE GLASS, SUCH AS A LIMB, ROCK, BASEBALL, ETC. WHEN I TOUCHED THE GLASS, IT CRUMBLED INTO THE STORAGE AREA AND ON THE PAVEMENT. THE AUTOGLASS REPAIR PLACE I TOOK IT TO OPINED THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED IN VARIOUS VEHICLES AS A RESULT OF HEAT BUILDING UP INSIDE. IF SO, THIS IS A SERIOUS MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN DEFECT
DRIVING FROM A PARKING SLOT AT CARL'S JR., MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITH A LOUD ENGINE ROAR, TO APPROXIMATELY 80-90 MPH, JUMPED OVER A CURB OVER AN ISLAND, RUN THROUGH THREE PARKING SLOTS, HIT ANOTHER CURB AND HIT A PALM TREE-WHICH FINALLY STOPPED MY CAR- AT A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 50-60 FEET FROM MY PARKED POSITION. I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKES FOR THE WHOLE 5-6 SECONDS UNTIL MY CAR HIT THE PALM TREE. THE BRAKE JUST DID NOT WORK. MISTAKENLY STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR, IS OUT OF THE QUESTION--WITH ALL THE JARRING AND SWAYING--ANY IDIOT WILL STEP ON THE BRAKE, WHICH I DID. MY WIFE IS HOSPITALIZED WITH A FRACTURED SPINE AND I SUFFER RECURRENT HEADACHES. BMW AND ALLSTATE PROMISED TO INVESTIGATE BUT NO EARLIER THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT! *TR
