Summary

Électronic car brakes stopped working while driving. Had to push hard on break pedal to stop the car. (And i was driving at max 10km/h) After 2 or 3 restart, the break pedal start working again.

On or about May 31, 2021 the car alarm began to randomly go off on the vehicle. I took the car to the local dealership on July 20, 2021 and was advised that "hood latch ajar signal showing hood open randomly" was causing alarm to go off. On Aug 21, the part arrived and the hood latch was replaced. Immediately upon leaving the dealership, the radio went blank. I lost all audible sounds and alerts in the car including: seat belt alerts, key in ignition alert, blinker alert, OnStar, and radio power. I returned to the dealership with the vehicle on Sept 21, 2021 and the car was again repaired. I was advised that "relay and battery saver relayed" was replaced. Additionally, the service tech called GM TAC and was advised that "due to the issue being intermit. most likely cause is fuse block overloading circuit and shorting relays. If relay goes out again, will need to replace fuse block." On Oct 30, 2021 I returned to the dealership with the vehicle. At this point the alarm was going off again and the radio (all interior sounds/alarms) had gone out again. I was advised that the fuse block needs to be replaced and that this issue is NOT caused by normal wear and tear or maintenance. I have reached out to GM for assistance with this matter as it is obviously a manufacturer defect. They have refused to help.

I have been having issues with my car getting stuck in gear or not wanting to switch gears, as well as sometimes when I try to go and I'm pushing the gas pedal it's like it doesn't move or try to drive then there is a loud knock and it revs all the way up and still doesn't really move then there is another loud knock and it takes off slowly and over revs and sputters and drives very odd, like it's struggling to go and keeps trying to switch gears. The check engine light keeps going on and off and every once in a while my traction light comes on as well. I took it to auto zone and this is the codes they received,"Powertrain Trouble Code Description: Pressure Control Solenoid "B" Control Circuit Range/Performance Powertrain Secondary Trouble Codes: P0965, P070." I have no idea how to afford to fix it and when doing research online about it alot of spark owners have had this issue and no recall has been placed. It is very dangerous and I can't even drive on the highway because my car simply won't go. I got stuck at a green light trying to go and almost got hit by a semi because my car simply wouldn't move. I am scared for my life to drive this car and this is an issue that needs to be addressed because I am still paying off this car, barely had it a couple years and maybe half of my loan time and can't even drive it. I am livid and will not put my life in danger because y'all won't issue a recall for a SERIOUS PROBLEM with this car. I have to be able to get to work and I can't with a car that is constantly trying to kill me. Please help!

NEELIE O'CONNOR-GLOBAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE OPERATIONS, STATING THAT MY MECHANICAL ISSUES MAY INDEED BE AT THE FAULT OF GM. THAI TIME IT WAS THE PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE LOW SIDE. HER MECHANIC DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT AT SOME POINT GM ISSUED A "RECALL" NOT EXACTLY A RECALL, BUT A VOLUNTARY FIX FOR A/C ISSUES INVOLVING 2013 AND 2014 CHEVY SPARKS. APPARENTLY IF THE REPAIR HAD NOT BEEN MADE BY 2016, THEN ONLY APPLICABLE WARRANTIES WOULD APPLY. WELL, WE DIDN'T BUY THIS VEHICLE UNTIL 2019, BUT THE HVAC SYSTEM HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THE START. GM KNOWS THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE HVAC SYSTEMS BACK IN 2014. HOW CAN THEY ONLY REPAIR FAULTY EQUIPMENT FOR 2 YEARS? A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH OF "CHEVY SPARK AC ISSUES" WILL LEAD TO NUMEROUS REPORTS OF SIMILAR ISSUES. I FOUND NUMEROUS ARTICLES AND RECALLS FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. I AM THE THIRD OWNER OF THIS SPARK. THE FIRST OWNER HAD A RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED ON THE SPARK THAT WAS RELATED TO THE RADIO. JUST A WEEK BEFORE I PURCHASE THE SPARK THE SECOND OWNER HAD THE RADIO "REPAIRED" AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. CHEVROLET AT THIS POINT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE PROBLEM IS RECALL RELATED BECAUSE THE RECALL SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ONCE.

I DROVE FROM SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, TO SAN FRANCISCO, CA (8 MILES). THE CAR WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. AS I APPROACHED THE 6TH ST. EXIT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO MY CAR. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE; THE BRAKES FELT 'LOCKED' UNDER MY FOOT, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS MOVING RAPIDLY FORWARD AT FREEWAY SPEED, AND I HAD NO WAY TO SLOW IT DOWN. I THEN SAW THE DISPLAY HAD A WARNING SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF 'SERVICE BRAKES SOON.' I WAS TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR AND VERY AFRAID OF A COLLISION DUE TO NOT HAVING ANY MEANS TO STOP. THE 6TH ST. EXIT HAD A HIGH RAMP, AND THERE WAS STILL NO RESPONSE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR SLOWED ENOUGH GOING UP THE RAMP TO AVOID A COLLISION, AND I COASTED TO THE FIRST INTERSECTION WHERE I PULLED OVER TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, AND I TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS WORKING AGAIN. THERE WAS NO WARNING ON THE DISPLAY. I SAFELY PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED FOR ABOUT HALF A MILE BEFORE PARKING TO MEET MY HUSBAND. APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR LATER, I STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN, AND IT APPEARED TO WORK; THERE WAS STILL NO WARNING SIGNAL AT ALL ABOUT SERVICING BRAKES. I BEGAN TO MAKE MY WAY BACK DOWN THE STREET WHEN, TWO BLOCKS INTO THE DRIVE, THE WARNING SIGNAL CAME ON AND I WAS UNABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE SLOWLY MOVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHO CAME IN HIS CAR TO HELP ME. WE CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND MY HUSBAND SAW TO IT THAT THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO SERRAMONTE CHEVROLET IN DALY CITY WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED (COST: $3727.91, MILES: 34,136). THE CHEVY SPARK EV DOES NOT HAVE A HANDBRAKE TO MANUALLY STOP THE CAR, PUTTING THE DRIVER AT EXTREME DISADVANTAGE.

MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND WENT OFF AFTER ONE DAY. IT CAME ON AGAIN 3 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING, AND AT ONE POINT I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. A MECHANIC HAS DIAGNOSED THE ERROR CODE AS P0871 AND ALERTED ME TO GM BULLETIN PIP5521 WHICH STATES MY ENTIRE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REPLACED, DESPITE THE CAR ONLY HAVING 56,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY GM WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. MY CAR IS SLIGHTLY OUT OF WARRANTY AND I'M ATTEMPTING TO GET GM TO FIX IT UNDER A GOOD WILL WARRANTY.

THE JUG THAT HOLDS MY ANTIFREEZE DEVELOPED A HOLE RIGHT WHERE THE HOSE CONNECTS TO IT AND ANTIFREEZE WAS DRIPPING ONTO A BELT. MY CAR WOULD MAKE A SCREECHING SOUND AND HESITATE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I REPLACED THE BELT BUT THEN OTHER STUFF STARTED GOING WRONG. THE ENGINE REVS UP WHILE I AM DRIVING AND THE CAR WILL HESITATE EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS, IT USUALLY HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN A FEW SECONDS THEN DRIVES FINE FOR A SHORT WHILE. NO PATTERN, JUST HAPPENS RANDOMLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. ON 08/07/1019 I WAS DRIVING 320 MILES TO COPPERAS COVE, TX FROM LUBBOCK,TX . AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 MILES MY CAR STUDDERED REAL BAD AND I LOST ALL POWER AS I TURNED A CORNER. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I STEPPED ON THE GAS TO THE FLOOR AND MY CAR WOULD BARLEY MOVE. I MANAGED TO GET TO A GAS STATION WHERE I HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW BACK TO LUBBOCK. SOMETHING ABOUT THE DEVICE THAT PUTS OXYGEN INTO THE GAS AS IT GOES INTO THE ENGINE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME EXPERIENCE ONLINE. I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 54000 MILES ON MY CAR. MY ALARM GOES OFF 99% OF THE TIME IF I LOCK MY CAR, AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID DOES NOT DISPENSE.

IN JANUARY 2019, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. NO DEALERSHIP HAD APPOINTMENTS BECAUSE THERE WAS AN AIRBAG RECALL ON ANOTHER GM VEHICLE GOING-ON. THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT I COULD OBTAIN WAS IN APRIL, WHICH ENDED UP TURNING OUT TO BE A FEW DAYS AFTER MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED. MY STANCE IS THAT I WOULD HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY, HAD AN APPOINTMENT BEEN AVAILABLE. BASED UPON THIS, MY FEELING IS THAT GM SHOULD HONOR MY POWERTRAIN AND FIX MY TRANSMISSION UNDER THE WARRANTY. HOWEVER, GM WAS REFUSING TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION UNDER THE WARRANTY, AND I WAS GOING THROUGH THE BAR COMPLAINT PROCESS. ON JUNE 16TH, I WAS DRIVING ACROSS A BRIDGE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PETAL, THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT IS A MIRACLE THAT I WAS NOT RAN OVER BY THE SEMITRUCK THAT WAS BEHIND ME AND WAS ABLE TO SOMEHOW COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I ALMOST DIED! THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THERE IS AN INTERNAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON MY VEHICLE AS GM KNOWS THAT THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAS A KNOWN HIGH TRANSMISSION FAILURE RATE AROUND 60K MILES. THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. ON JULY 8TH, I PAID TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED; HOWEVER THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE UPHILL, THE CAR SLOWS DOWN TO A MAX OF 45MPH. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE ON THE FREEWAY WHERE THE STANDARD SPEED IS 65MPH. IF YOU LOOK AT CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, THERE ARE OVER 200 PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE 2014 CHEVY SPARK.

PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2014 BRAND NEW. THE RADIO SCREEN SAID CHECK ANTENNA WHEN ON XM (WE HAD A FREE TRIAL BUT IT WOULDN'T WORK) SO WE TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHERE THEY SAID THERE WAS A CHAFED WIRE BEHIND RADIO. THEY REPAIRED BUT RADIO STILL DIDN'T WORK CORRECTLY, AND SO THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE RADIO, THIS WAS IN 2015. NOW IT'S 2019, AND SOMETIMES THE CAR WON'T START, THE SIGNAL CHIMES WON'T MAKE SOUNDS AND THE RADIO WILL NOT TURN ON, RANDOM LIGHTS COME ON IN THE DASH - INCLUDING A FAILURE LIGHT ABOUT THE AIRBAGS, AND A BRAKE LIGHT WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. WE HAD THE KEY CHIME RECALL COMPLETED, BUT THIS ISSUE OCCURRED ANYWAY. WE REPLACED THE KEY FOB BATTERIES, THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT START RANDOMLY. WE TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY SAID THE ISSUE WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE - IT WAS REPAIRED. NOW A MONTH LATER, THE RADIO AGAIN DOESN'T WORK AGAIN AND THE SOUNDS IN THE CAR (SIGNALS,ETC) DON'T WORK AGAIN, AND WE EXPECTED THE CAR NOT TO START AGAIN SINCE THOSE WERE THE SIGNS THAT OCCURRED BEFORE IT WOULDN'T START. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY SAY THE RADIO DOESN'T WORK AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE RADIO HAS BEEN REPLACED IN 4 YEARS. ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT. . I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING MAJORLY WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL MAKEUP OF THIS VEHICLE AND THAT THE RADIO NOT WORKING/ CAUSING OTHER PROBLEMS, IS JUST AN UNDERLYING ISSUE BEING CAUSED BY SOMETHING GREATER. I HAD TO CUT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT MYSELF FROM GETTING INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT (AN IDLE CAR ON AN EIGHT LANE INTERSTATE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A GOOD TIME), TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN WAITED 5 MINUTES. I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON, AND IT RAN FOR AN ADDITIONAL FIVE MINUTES BEFORE HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS. REPEAT ONE MORE TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME SAFELY. THE NEXT DAY, 18 SEP 2018, I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT BASED ON ODB2 SCAN ON THE VEHICLE THAT THE ENGINE COMPUTER WASN'T TALKING TO ANY OF THE OTHER SYSTEMS AND THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX THIS PROBLEM; IT HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAVE TO RUN A WIRE TRACE TO FIGURE OUT WHICH WIRE IS SHORTING OUT THE SYSTEM.

IN AN INSTANT I CHECKED TO BE SURE I WASN'T PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, THEN PUSHED WITH ALL MY MIGHT EVEN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED BUT ONLY AFTER COMING WITHIN AN INCH OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY CAR SOUNDED A WARNING "DING," AND THE DASH ILLUMINATED THE SERVICE LIGHT, THE STABILITRAK LIGHT, AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT, AND THE MESSAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DISPLAY SAID "SERVICE STABILITRAK MODULE." SEE ATTACHED IMAGE FOR WHAT WAS DISPLAYED. I PUT THE CAR INTO LOW AND MOVED IT INTO THE PARKING STRIP. IT WAS STILL INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO STOP. I POWER CYCLED THE CAR AND WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF STARTING UP THE SAME ERROR WAS DISPLAYED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NEARLY USELESS. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL CHEVY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THEY HAD ME WAIT 90 MINUTES IN THE COLD WITH A CAR WITH NO HEAT FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE. I WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM WHERE I WOULD HAVE BEEN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY THEN I AM CERTAIN THAT SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH WOULD HAVE RESULTED. THE CAR IS NOW AT WENTWORTH CHEVY IN PORTLAND, OR. I CALLED GM CORPORATE AND EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A DANGER TO THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AND JEOPARDIZED MY LIFE, AND THEY MADE ATTEMPTS TO REMEDY THE SITUATION AT HAND.. AUTONATION CALLED AND APOLOGIZED FOR THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT THEY DID NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO FIND THE PROBLEM. ON A DAY OFF FROM WORK, I TOOK IT TO THE SAME AUTONATION TO HAVE THEM RUN DIAGNOSTICS, AND THE TURNED ME AWAY. THIS HAPPENED A DOCUMENT THREE TIMES. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER CHEVY HOUSE, AND THEY ALSO REFUSED THE CAR. DRIVING IT ENDANGERED MY LIFE AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS. FAST FORWARD A COUPLE MONTHS, I FIND OUT THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD, AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN PUT OUT. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, CONDENSATION HAD BEGUN ON THE INTERIOR OF MY VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, MY FLOORBOARDS WERE SOPPING WET, AND WATER BEGAN TO FILL THE CAB OF MY CAR. AUTONATION DID FIND THAT A HOSE HAD BEEN CUT AND HAD BEEN LEAKING FLUID THROUGHOUT THE CAB. TODAY, 2-9-16 AT APPX. 0426, MY VEHICLE BEGAN FILLING THE CAB WITH NOXIOUS FUMES AND SMOKING UPON PARKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON. NO LIGHTS OR CHIMES INITIATED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE COULD HAVE SET FIRE AT ANY MOMENT HAD I KEPT DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY DANGEROUS TO MYSELF AND THOSE AROUND, AND NO ONE AT AUTONATION TAKES IT SERIOUSLY. I HOPE BY ADVANCING MY PROBLEMS WITH THE 2014 CHEVY SPARK WILL STEER POTENTIAL BUYERS THE OTHER WAY, AND I ALSO HOPE THAT GM WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND BUY THE CAR BACK. THEY DECIDED IT WAS A LOOSE GAS CAP AS THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED UP THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THEY SENT ME HOME. THE NEXT MORNING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR OVER A WEEK BECAUSE THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS ON BACKORDER. IT WAS REPLACED AND LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition.
