Steering wheel locked up and could not control car. After taking car to repair shop I was informed that the entire power steering rack would have to be replaced. Upon internet research noticed numerous similar complaints of same problem in Ford Cmax and Ford Focus vehicles. Appears to have been a limited recall back in 2014 of several hundred Cmax and Focus cars but Ford gave assurance those were all the cars affected. Not sure if that problem was the same as current problem but there are many reports of power steering failures which can make the cars difficult or impossible to be driven. To repair the car will be approx. $2000 as the entire electronic power steering rack needs replacing. Please see attached PDF for additional information.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the service power steering message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 177,842.
The vehicle was entered while parked and locked with the security system active. A panel was removed from the lower left side of the housing beneath the steering wheel. All four windows had been lowered to the maximum extent possible, apparently without breaking them. Debris was strewn across front and rear seats. Spare floor mats stored in the trunk/hatch area (normally out of view due to a cover over the hatch and the rear seat backs) were deposited on the rear seat
The contact owns a 2014 Ford C-MAX Energi. The contact stated the front driver’s seat power seat was stuck in the reclined position. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to be repaired. The vehicle was returned, and the contact became aware that the rear driver’s side door panel was loose, causing the door to not open properly. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who diagnosed that the door panel was damaged and need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
The issue is related to steering. My Ford C-Max steering system would become very stiff and gets locked. The warning "Service Power Steering" would pop up and the steering wheel would become inoperable. This has happened a couple instances and creating a huge panic. When this happens the steering cannot be moved. I have to stop the engine and restart after a couple mins. The issue is intermittent and does not give any warnings before this situation occurs creating anxiety and huge risk to drive. I took the car to Ford Dealership at Georgetown Texas. They investigated the issue and reverted that the problem is with Steering Gear and has to be replaced to fix the issue. Upon checking on internet I see Ford had reported out similar issue in Sep 2014 and had tried to address the issue. Details below. https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2014-ford-focus-c-max-recalled-for-potential-steering-gear-problem.html https://repairpal.com/recall/14V514000 The issue I faced is consistent with the problems highlighted and pose huge risk if this were to happen while driving at high speeds in traffic.
The passenger side rear door plastic panel keeps dislodging from its metal casing, then gets stuck on part of the interior frame, causing the door to not be operational. The plastic overlaps the frame once it is dislodged; the metal part of the door is opening, but the plastic panel holds it back from being able to go past an inch. The door is, essentially, stuck. One must reach in and manually push the plastic panel back into place (sticking fingers in to first dislodge from where it's stuck, then guide it back to where it's supposed to be, then bang on it to get it back in place). There are plastic pegs that are supposed to hold the door panels on, but they don't (and they fall out). There are many message boards, Consumer Reports, and other sites showing this is a common problem for 2013-2014 C Max Hybrid doors. Ford is making consumers pay to replace the panels. They need to change the plastic pegs so that they actually hold, or affix the whole panel is a much more secure way! This is extremely unsafe because we cannot exit the car sometimes, and in an accident that could be dangerous. More importantly, it affects us every day because my children cannot exit our vehicle on the sidewalk side; they must open the driver's side rear door and exit the car into the street, oftentimes into traffic! They need to be able to exit on the SAFE side of the car!! Ford issued a repair for 2013 model cars but not for ours. They know this is a problem. Here is a link to the repair order: https://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/4807-tsb-14-0030-rear-door-trim-panels-loose-built-on-or-before-6282013/ I will put today's date as today was the most recent time my daughter walked into traffic outside school because her door was jammed. But this has happened many, many times over the course of our ownership, and has been getting worse over the last year (if we had driven more often -- like we did pre-pandemic -- I'm sure it would be even worse now).
Sudden loss of power to steering....noted that many others have had this problem.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford C-Max. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer for tire service and was informed they were unable to rotate the tire due to frozen lug nuts. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford C-MAX. The contact stated that the transfer shaft assembly bearing had failed prematurely which caused an abnormal, grinding sound to come from the transmission while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and had the transmission replaced under warranty. Recently, the contact stated that the same failure recurred with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where they had test driven the vehicle and confirmed that the same transmission defect had recurred. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000.
During last trip with car, parked car while shopping. When leaving store car lost steering and warning light came on in dash indicating power steering assist fault. Car was extremely difficult to drive after that. Waiting for appointment with dealer. Had this happened while turning at a busy intersection it could have been a problem. Car has 100,000 miles so I expect some problems, but I think this could be a safety issue.
THERE IS A GRINDING OR RUBBING SOUND EMANATING FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHILE DRIVING, AT ANY SPEED (GENERALLY NOT WHILE STATIONARY BUT SOMETIMES), AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (METRO MOTORS, ST. CROIX, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS) FOUND "TRANSMISSION VARIATOR TO DRIVE CHAIN LOOSE CAUSING NOISE" AND "[N]O INTERNAL SERVICEABLE COMPONENTS" AND RECOMMENDED "[R]EPLACEMENT OF HYBRID CVT TRANSMISSION." THE DEALERSHIP SPECIFICALLY RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION PART, JM5Z-7000-ARM, WHICH IS THE SAME PART INDICATED IN THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 20-2219, PUBLISHED ON JUNE 29, 2020, ON THIS SAME ISSUE OF GRINDING/RUBBING NOISE EMANATING FROM TRANSMISSIONS IN 2014 FORD C-MAX (AMONG OTHER VEHICLES). THE TSB FURTHER PROVIDES THE PART IS "ELIGIBLE UNDER PROVISIONS OF NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY," HOWEVER, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS STATED FORD MOTOR COMPANY DENIED THE CLAIM, AND THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS SAID IT AGREES WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CLAIM SHOULD BE DENIED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE (MILEAGE: 86,225 MILES; YEARS: NOT YET 7) IS UNDER AN ACTIVE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY AS THE TERMS HAVE NOT EXPIRED. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS WILLING TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART, HOWEVER, IT SAYS IT NEEDS WRITTEN CONFIRMATION FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY, WHICH FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT PROVIDED, DESPITE TWO LETTERS OF NOTICE OF DEFECTIVE PART AND MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS WITH THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER.
WHILE STOPPED FOR GAS IDIOT LIGHT FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE CAME ON. COULDN'T STEER CAR. TOOK TO FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID POWER ASSIST WAS BROKEN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, AND THIS WOULD COST $2800. THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED PREVIOUSLY ON FORD TAURUS AND FUSION, BUT WAS NOT EXTENDED TO C-MAX. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
WARNING LIGHT WITH AN ENGINE AND WRENCH APPEARED FOR 24 HOURS. WRENCH DISAPPEARED AND THEN THE ENGINE. DEALER INSISTED THE CAR FIXED IT SELF AND LATER CLAIMED THEIR TESTER SHOW NO PROBLEM. DEALER WAS USING A GENERIC TESTER WHICH IS NOT DESIGNED FOR HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY SYSTEM. 'HYBRID/EV BATTERY BALANCING CIRCUIT STUCK' REFLECTED ON A PERSONAL NEWER MODEL ENGINE TESTER. THIS BATTERY IS WARRANTED FOR 100,000 MILES. DEALER NOT USING THE CORRECT TYPE OF ENGINE TESTER BASED ON THE TYPE OF BATTERY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, A LOUD HIGH PITCH WINING SOUND WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER RACE FORD LOCATED AT 436 W 250 N WARSAW IN. WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

ON NOVEMBER 26, 2019, PRESSED THE "START ENGINE" BUTTON. DASHBOARD FLASHED WITH CHECK-ENGINE, SERVICE WRENCH, AND "STOP SAFELY NOW" INDICATORS; CAR ENERGIZED BUT WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN DRIVE MODE. ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT. FAN MOTOR BEGAN BLOWING ALTHOUGH NEVER SELECTED. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, WAS ABLE TO TURN CAR OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MORE MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND GET HOME (APPROX. 2 MILES). COULD NOT GET CAR TO START FOR SEVERAL DAYS. MANAGED TO GET CAR STARTED AND BRING TO REPAIR FACILITY (CARMAX); THEY COULD NOT GET STARTED AND HAD CAR TOWED TO FELIX SABATES FORD DEALERSHIP. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THEY INDICATED THEY REPROGRAMMED BATTERY MODULES AND FIXED PROBLEM; THEY RETURNED CAR TO REPAIR FACILITY. WENT TO PICK UP AND EXACT SAME SEQUENCE OCCURRED; CAR WOULD ENERGIZE BUT COULD NOT ENGAGE IN DRIVE MODE AND I COULD NOT TURN OFF (12/10). CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO FORD DEALER; 2 WEEKS LATER CAR WAS "FIXED" AND RETURNED TO CARMAX 12/23/19. CARMAX COULD NOT START CAR. SEE NHTSA ISSUE 11016422,10846313, 10783553,10633639 WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. WHAT HAPPENS TO ME WHEN I'M ON THE INTERSTATE A 70MPH AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF? *TR
THE 2 BACK PASSENGER DOORS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THEY BECOME STUCK WHEN CLOSED AND CANNOT BE OPENED IN A NORMAL MANNER. THE DOORS REQUIRE GREAT FORCE TO BE OPENED BECAUSE THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL COMES LOOSE AND CAUSES THE DOORS TO NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AND MUST BE OPENED FORCEFULLY BY AN ADULT. THE MEANS THAT ANY CHILD SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT IS UNABLE TO EXIT THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND HAPPENS RANDOMLY. THIS IS WAS NOTED BY FORD TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE 2013 C MAX BUT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM WITH THE 2014 C MAX MAKING THE 2014 A DEATH TRAP. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO HAVE A DEALER FIX THE ISSUE HAVE FAILED.
MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE 2014 FORD C MAX TO PICK UP MY YOUNGER DAUGHTER AND HAD A BLOWOUT WITH HER TIRE ON JUNE 26, 2019. SHE HEARD THE FRONT TIRE POPPED AND HAD TO MERGE FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE SIDEWALL HAD A HOLE AND WASN'T ABLE TO FIX SO HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK. THIS OCCURRED ON HIGHWAY 4 WHICH DIDN'T HAVE ANY ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND SHE DIDN'T RUN OVER ANYTHING. I AM CONCERNED WITH THE INTEGRITY OF THE TIRES. THE MILEAGE IS 43600 AND THE TREADS ARE STILL GOOD. I'VE REPLACED TWO TIRES SINCE EVEN TREADS NEED TO BE PAIRED UP. TWO NEW TIRES IN THE FRONT AND THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE REAR. I'VE KEPT THE THIRD TIRE FOR FUTURE USE. HEARING THE WHOLE FACT FROM MY DAUGHTER AM CONCERNED OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES AS WELL AS THE NEW TIRES SINCE REPLACED WITH THE SAME BRAND. THE BRAND IS MICHELIN ENERGY SAVER.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR ALERT SHIFT TO PARK ALERT ALARM GOES OFF UNEXPECTEDLY
POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. LUCKILY I WAS GOING VERY SLOW AT THE TIME, BUT NEEDED TO ABANDON VEHICLE, UNDRIVEABLE WITHOUT POWER STEERING.
POWER ELECTRICAL HORN CONTINUES TO NOT WORK, WITHIN 3 YEAR OF DRIVING STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS AND I REATTACHED WIRES TO THE HORN ONCE AND WITHIN 1 MONTH THEY STOPPED WORKING AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V592000 (EQUIPMENT). THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT ED BUTTS FORD (1515 N HACIENDA BLVD, LA PUENTE, CA 91744, (800) 960-3673), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET AN "AS" CORD; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC INSTALLED AN "AH" CORD INSTEAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD THAT THE RECALL 18V-592 PARTS ARE IN STOCK TO REPLACE THE RECHARGER CORD. I WAS NOTIFIED ORIGINALLY ON SEPT 2018 BUT NOW 6 MONTHS LATER NO NOTIFICATION OF PARTS AVAILABLE. THE CAR CANNOT BE CHARGED USING 110V POWER AS FORD RECALL NOTICE SAID TO QUIT USING THE DEFECTIVE CHARGE CORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V592000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS RECEIVED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER (TUTTLE CLICK FORD, 9501 RESEARCH DR, IRVIN, CA), THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE DEFECT WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
FORD RECALLED THE CMAX CHARGING CORD (ELECTRIC) ON AUGUST 2ND, 2018. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED BECAUSE OF FIRE DANGER. MY CORD SPECIFICALLY MELTED UNDER EXTREME HEAT AND COULD HAVE EASILY CREATED A FIRE IF THE LINE HAD NOT BEEN ON GFI. IT IS NOW 5 MONTHS LATER AND FORD STILL HAS NOT ISSUED REPLACEMENT CORDS FOR THIS RECALL. THE TIMELINE TO REPLACE THESE CORDS MUST BE ACCELERATED, IT'S UNACCEPTABLE TO ALLOW CHARGING CORDS TO BE USED FOR CHARGING THEIR CMAX VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER18S24 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER18V592
THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AND BASED ON RESEARCH FORD CLAIMED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WAS FIXED FOR THE 2013 MODEL. FORD DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY FURTHER TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICE THEY DID NOT REFUSE TO REPLACE IT COMPLETELY WITHOUT COST.*BF
THE FORD C MAX COMES WITH THE SYNC SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS ALL OF THE CONSOLE SYSTEMS (RADIO, BACKUP CAMERA, HEAT/COLD, PHONE, NAVIGATION, AND USB PORTS). IN THE VEHICLE, THE SYNC SYSTEM HAS QUIT WORKING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. THIS CAUSES A DISTRACTION, AND EFFORT BY THE DRIVER TO REMEDY. ADDITIONALLY, THE SYNC CAUSES THE BACKUP CAMERA TO GO IN AND OUT, THUS CAUSING A BACKUP HAZARD. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO FORD'S SERVICE CENTER MULTIPLE TIMES, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE FORD REPAIR SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES, AT LEAST FOUR (4) AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE LAST TWO TIMES THAT HAVE REPLACED MAJOR COMPONENTS TO REMEDY THE SITUATION, BUT IT HAS NOT.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED IN MARCH OF 2018. THE 12 VOLT BATTERY HAS COMPLETELY DRAINED NUMEROUS TIMES THE FIRST MONTH I OWNED IT. ABOUT 10 - 12 TIMES. FINALLY IN APRIL OF 2018 I REPLACED THE 12 VOLT BATTER TO THE TUNE OF $155.00. I THOUGHT THIS WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT DID FOR A FEW WEEKS. THEN I WOULD GET UP TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND MY BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN AVERAGING 3-4 JUMPS A WEEK TO GET CAR RUNNING. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED YET AGAIN IN JULY 2018. THIS WEEK I HAVE HAD TO JUMP MY CAR A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES IN 5 DAYS. I HAVE BEEN LATE TO WORK TWICE. AND TWO OF THE MORNINGS THE CAR DID START IT HAD BEEN ON THE BATTERY CHARGER OVERNIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO WORK THESE TWO MORNINGS, BUT 4 HOURS LATER WHEN I WENT OUT TO GO TO LUNCH THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN.I AM TYPING THIS ON MY LUNCH HOUR AS I SIT AT MY DESK. CAR IS DEAD AGAIN AND I CAN'T LEAVE. I READ ALL THE ISSUES OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THAT ARE JUST LIKE MINE AND DO NOT KNOW WHY FORD HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE TO CARRY AROUND JUMPER CABLES AND A BATTERY CHARGER IN MY CAR AND HOPE SOMEONE COMES ALONG TO ASSIST ME. THIS CAR IS UNRELIABLE. THEN NOVEMBER 17 WHEN WE WERE IN BRANSON, MO FOR THANKSGIVING THE REAR TAILGATE LATCH FAILED. IT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE. I UNDERSTAND ANOTHER OF FORD'S ISSUES. WE HAVE ADJUSTED THE REAR BUMPER PADS PER FORD'S RECOMMENDATION FOR THAT ISSUE.IT DID NOT HELP. NOW I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN THE FORD DEALER ON 12/15 AND HAVE THAT REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $358.00. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH ISSUES WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY?
AFTER 3 DAYS SITTING ON MY DRIVEWAY, THIS MORNING I WENT TO START THE CAR AND NOTICED A WARNING ON THE SCREEN "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". I TRIED TO BACK OUT TO THE STREET, BUT THE POWER STEERING REMAINED UN-MANEUVERABLE. ONLINE SEARCH FOUND OUT THERE HAD BEEN A LOT OF REPORTS FOR THE VERY SAME ISSUE ON FOCUS, C-MAX, AND FUSION. IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE NOT UNIQUE TO MY CAR.
I WAS IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT (WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, HIT IN THE REAR AND PUSHED OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A GUARD RAIL) MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. IT LOOKS LIKE MY VEHICLE'S MAKE MODEL AND YEAR WERE SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF A RECALL INVOLVING THE AIRBAG BUT WE WERE NEVER CONTACTED AND THE DEALER NEVER ACTED ON A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING A GRINDING AND THUMPING NOISE. THE CONTACT INITIALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HOFFMAN FORD LINCOLN (600 CONNECTICUT BLVD, EAST HARTFORD, CT 06108, (860) 289-7721), BUT THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT EXAMINE THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH. THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN ON THE WAY FROM THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER UNKNOWN FORD DEALER WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED AND BELIEVED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
I NOW FIND THAT THE CHARGER FOR THE CAR BATTERY WAS RECALLED ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO AND THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT AVAILABLE AS YET. THE CHARGER IS SUPPOSED TO ADD 18 MILES TO THE BATTERY BUT LAST TIME I PLUGGED IT IN WHILE PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, OVERNIGHT (ABOUT 10 HOURS) IT TOOK 10 MGW, AND CHARGED FOR ONE MILE. AND THE CHARGER WAS HOT. IT WAS PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO A WALL SOCKET OUTSIDE MY HOUSE.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I WAS COASTING TO A STOP FOR A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. JAMMING ON THE BRAKES STOPPED THE CAR. ONE OF TIME I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND THEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING WOULD HAPPENED, SO I PUT THE CAR BACK IT PARK AND THEN BACK INTO REVERSE AND STILL NOTHING. NEXT I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR STILL WOULDNT MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AGAIN AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR AND AFTER A SECOND OR TWO THE CAR WHEN FLYING BACKWARDS AND I QUICKLY JAMMED ON THE BRAKES.
AFTER OVER A YEAR OF ASKING THEY KEEP SAYING THEY CAN'T GET THE PARTS FROM FORD AT THE SAME TIME THEY ADMIT THEY HAVE RECEIVED PARTS BUT THEY ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND WHEN I ASK TO BE INFORMED OR PUT ON A LIST THEY TELL ME THEY DON'T DO THAT. THEY SAY I JUST HAVE TO TAKE MY CHANCES WHEN I HAVE SERVICE OR TO CALL WEEKLY OR MONTHLY. AND NOW THAT I HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL REPAIR MORE THAN ONCE WHEN I TAKE THE CAR IN FOR ITS OIL CHANGE IT SEEMS THEY HAVE FLAGGED OUR ACCOUNT AND OUR TREATMENT IS VERY POOR. I SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE RECENTLY AND ASKED IF THEY COULD FIX THE RECALL AND THEY SAID IT WAS A LOW PRIORITY, THAT THEY DON'T PROVIDE A CUSTOMER WAITING LIST AND THEY CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT. WHEN I CALLED AGAIN THEY SET IT BACK A WEEK AFTER I MENTIONED THAT I WAS PLANNING ON GOING OUT OF TOWN. THEIR MEANNESS SIMPLY MEANS I WILL TAKE OUR OTHER FORD WHICH THEY HAVE SUCCESSFULLY NEVER COMPLETED ONE RECALL REPAIR ON THAT AND THE CAR GOT SO OLD THAT THEY SAID THEY NO LONGER HAVE TO DO THE REPAIR BUT I CAN NOW PAY FOR THE OLD RECALL REPAIRS. THANKS PENSKE FORD WHO USE TO BE DREW FORD IN LA MESA CALIFORNIA
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ALHAMBRA FORD IN ALHAMBRA, CALIFORNIA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE BROUGHT IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
TRANSMISSION MAKES A LOUD WHINING SOUND WHEN WARMING UP AND IN GAS MODE. IT IS DIAGNOSED BY TECHNICIAN AS POSSIBLY THE TRANSMISSION BEARINGS, BUT WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL THEY DIS ASSEMBLE. QUOTED $7500 FOR A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES. FORD WILL NOT WORK WITH ME ON THE PRICE.
FORD CERTIFIED THE C-MAX AS BEING TOW-ABLE 4 WHEELS DOWN BEHIND A MOTORHOME. THEIR INSTRUCTIONS STATE THAT THE IGNITION SHOULD "OFF". IN THIS STATE THE BRAKES SHOULD NOT BE ACTIVE (UNPOWERED). THE PROBLEM IS THEY SPORADICALLY BECOME ACTIVE (POWERED) THEN RETURN TO INACTIVE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WITH THIS HAPPENING THERE IS NO WAY TO PROPERLY SET A SUPPLEMENTAL BRAKING UNIT. SOMETIMES YOU ARE OVER BREAKING AND OTHER TIMES NOT BRAKING AT ALL. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAUSED ME BRAKE LOCKUP THREE TIMES ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHERE I COULD NOT PULL OVER. THIS EPISODE DESTROYED A BRAND NEW SET OF TIRES. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEY REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE IT. I EVEN PAID A FORD DEALER TO UPGRADE MY FIRMWARE IN THE HOPE THAT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. IT DID NOT! I ALSO REPLACED MY SUPPLEMENTAL BRAKE UNIT WITH ANOTHER BRAND WITH THE EXACT SAME RESULT. I DON'T BELIEVE THE SOLUTION IS REALLY THAT DIFFICULT, EITHER THE C-MAX BRAKES SHOULD BE ACTIVE OR INACTIVE WHEN THE IGNITION IS 'OFF' AND THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. BOUNCING BETWEEN THOSE STATES IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLUG TO CHARGE THE VEHICLE WAS MELTING AND CAUSED THE POWER OUTLET IN THE HOUSE TO MELT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO CHARGE AND WAS UNABLE TO OPERATE AT TIMES. THE CONTACT CALLED SARAHSOTA FORD AT 888-349-4989 AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS DUE TO USER ERROR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON MEANING CONTACT DEALER ASAP ABOUT POWERTRAIN ISSUE. I HAD NOTICED A FEW DAYS EARLIER IT SEEMED TO NOT BE SWITCHING BETWEEN ELECTRIC AND ENGINE AS WELL OR SMOOTHLY WHEN DRIVING. WHEN STATIONARY, THE DISPLAY SCREEN FOR RADIO WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN GETTING INTO THE CAR. INSTEAD IT GIVES MESSAGE "TURNING OFF TO CONSERVE BATTERY." CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND IS AT 78000 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER. CANNOT FIND ISSUE. CODES IT IS THROWING ARE FOR BATTERY BUT THEY BOTH TEST GOOD. THEY RESET CODES AND WE WENT TO PICK IT UP. NOW KEY FOBS WON'T WORK UNLESS THE CAR IS TURNED ON. ALARM BUTTON ON THE FOB MAKES THE CAR SOUND LIKE A FLUTTERING NOISE, BUT NO REAL ALARM. THE DEALER IS GOING TO KEEP IT MORE AND CHECK IT OUT MORE. STILL HAS THE MESSAGE ABOUT CONSERVING BATTERY ON THE SCREEN. THEY HADN'T FOUND WHAT CAUSED THE BATTERY CODES AND NOW MORE THINGS AREN'T WORKING.
RECEIVED A "STOP SAFELY NOW" DASH INDICATOR LIGHT WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER AND I APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP PRIOR TO INTERSECTION. PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN VEHICLE OFF, BUT CAR DID NOT RESPOND OR POWER DOWN. ACCESSORY ITEMS WERE STILL FUNCTIONING IN CAR, BUT UNABLE TO GET THE CAR TO SWITCH INTO GEAR AND DRIVE. EVENTUALLY, PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER 10 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON, BUT STILL UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO MOTION. HAVING VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP.

THE PORTABLE CHARGER WALL PLUG MELTED WHILE CHARGING. THE PLASTIC MELTED AND WAS TOO HOT TO TOUCH. THIS WAS AFTER TWO HOURS OF CHARGING AN EMPTY BATTERY. FORD IS NOT REPLACING IT UNDER WARRANTY, IS IT IS JUST OUTSIDE 3 YEARS.
2014 FORD CMAX ENERGI - 70,300 MILES PURCHASED NEW NOV. 2014. WAS DRIVING SWITCH BACKS DOWN HILL WITH MY CAR IN LOW. I HEARD A NOISE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR IN NEUTRAL. I BRAKED TO A STOP. PUT IT IN PARK AND BACK TO DRIVE AND IT SEEMED FINE. A WEEK AND A LATER, IT DID IT AGAIN IN THE SAME DOWN HILL PLACE ON THE SWITCH BACKS. I REALLY TAKES OFF WHEN IT UNEXPECTEDLY SLIPS OUT OF GEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD AGENCY THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THEY KEPT IT 42 DAYS (INCLUDING SUNDAYS) BUT NEVER FOUND THE CAUSE. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR AND COME BACK IF IT DID IT AGAIN. THEY COULD NOT SEEM TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP THEREFORE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. TODAY, JULY 12, 2017 THE AGENCY CALLED AND ASKED ME TO PAY 0VER $900.00 FOR THE RENTAL CARS. I TOLD THEM NO. I CALLED THE AGENCY WEEKLY TO CHECK ON THEIR PROGRESS AND EACH TIME WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER OR THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO SLIP. THE SLIPPING EXPERIENCE WAS VERY UNNERVING...THOSE FEW SECONDS FEELING YOU'RE OUT OF CONTROL FELT LIKE MINUTES. I LOVE MY CAR AND JUST WANT A GUARANTEE IT WON'T DO IT AGAIN. I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY OF THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR HAVE 0VER 70,000 MILES THUS, COULD THIS BE A FACTOR IN THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH MY CAR THAT HASN'T SHOWN UP IN A LIKE CAR WITH LESS MILEAGE. I DID TAKE OUT EVERY EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CAR AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WAS DEFINITELY IN MOTION WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON A 2 LANE ROAD.
THE CAR DID THE SAME THING THIS MORNING, 7/14/2017, SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR ON THE DOWN GRADE IN LOW. I JUST FILED A REPORTED OF 2 OTHER INSTANCES OVER THE PAST 2 MONTHS OF THE SAME NATURE YESTERDAY 7/13/2017. I ALSO REPORTED TO OUR LOCAL FORD AGENCY THIS MORNING ( AUTONATION FORD IN TORRENCE, CA). IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS HAVE IT TOWED IN AND LET THEM CHECK THE COMPUTER.
THERE IS A RECALL ON DOOR LATCH. FORD IS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET MY CAR FIXED BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT ALLOW THE DEALERDHIP TO ORDER MORE THAN ONE SET OF PARTS AT A TIME. THE DEALERSHIP MUST COMPLETE ONE WORK ORDER BEFORE THE NEXT CAR'S PARTS CAN BE ORDERED, MAKING IT ESSENTIALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE RECALL ISSUE RESOLVED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE LATCHES FAILED AND ALL FOUR OF THE DOORS OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCHES FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY COULD ONLY PERFORM THE REPAIR WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT PROVIDED THE CORRECT PARTS TO CONDUCT THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED DUE TO THE FAULTY REPAIR PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 FORD C-MAX. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT OBSERVED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE AND FLAMES ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. THE POINT OF ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE FIRE REPORT WAS INCONCLUSIVE. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF WHETHER A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,500.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY - DEFECT/MALFUNCTION PER OWNER'S MANUAL. OTHER YEARS OF THE SAME MODEL HAS BEEN ID AND RECALL IS AFFECT FOR THE SAME AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE FAILURE OR DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG UPON IMPACT. THE DEALER IS RELUCTANT TO CHECK IT UNTIL I PROVIDED A RECALL # "14S04" FOR THE OTHER YEARS AFFECTED.
WE HAVE NOTICED A TEMPERATURE PROBLEM WHEN CHARGING WITH OUR FORD SUPPLIED 120 VOLT EVSE FM58-10B706AE, MANUFACTURE DATE: 14122, FOR OUR 2014 FORD C-MAX-ENERGI, WITH 29,100 MILES. ON AUGUST 24, 2016, I DID SOME INITIAL TEMPERATURE TESTING ON WITH AN INFRARED THERMOMETER. THE HIGHEST RECORDED TEMPERATURE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE PLUG INDICATED 192.2 DEGREES. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RECORD AMPERAGE AT THE OUTLET THE 15 AMP RATED TESTER BEGAN TO MELT. WE HAD THE CAR AND EVSE IN WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER ON AUGUST 25, 2016 AND SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 TO BE CHECKED. AFTER BEING CHECKED AND HAVING A REPAIR MADE TO THE VEHICLE WE WERE TOLD THAT THE EVSE WAS WARM BUT NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BECAUSE IT CHARGED THE VEHICLE. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT IF WE WERE CONCERNED THEN WE SHOULDN'T LEAVE IT CHARGING UNATTENDED. WE STOPPED USING THE FORD SUPPLIED EVSE. ON FEBRUARY 7, 2017, I TOOK THE TIME TO RECORD THE INFORMATION BELOW. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE AREAS ARE ON THE PLUG AND WIRE CABLE JUST BELOW THE PLUG. I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE DOORS ON MY VEHICLE.
I AM APPALLED AT HOW FORD HAS TAKEN CARE OF THE RECALL ISSUE 16S30, ACCORDING TO THE LETTER I RECEIVED THE PART FOR THIS RECALL WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 2017 SECOND QUARTER? FIRST OF ALL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, CONSIDERING THIS IS NO FAULT OF MINE. WHAT REALLY UPSETS ME IS WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE HATCH TO LOAD MY GROCERIES, IT WOULDN'T OPEN, SO I LOADED THEM IN MY BACKSEAT. WELL WHEN I PULLED OUT, THE HATCH OPENED! WHAT CONCERNS ME IS WHAT IF THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY DOOR AND MY CHILD FELL OUT? I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS FORD MOTOR AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED! VERY POOR SERVICE FROM FORD
I RECEIVED A LETTER INFORMING ME OF THE RECALL ON THE DOOR LATCH, HOWEVER PARTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL POSSIBLY THE 2ND QUARTER 2017. CONSIDERING MY LATCH ON THE BACK OPENS SOMETIMES, I AM CERTAINLY CONCERNED FOR MY DOORS OPENING WITH MY KIDS. HAVING TO WAIT IS UNACCEPTABLE. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED A LOANER CAR UNTIL MINE IS FIXED. I AM VERY10 DISSATISFIED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX HYBRID. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNING IT OFF, THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ROLLED BACKWARDS AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTING IT, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ONE SEPARATE OCCASION. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AWAY FROM THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RODS AND PISTONS FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. .....UPDATED 10/13/16 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OPENED WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPLACED OR REPURCHASED. UPDATED 09/20/2017*JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX ENERGI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PLUGGED IN AND RECHARGING IN THE GARAGE. TWO HOURS LATER, AN EXTENSIVE FIRE ERUPTED FROM THE CHARGE CORD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE DEALER TESTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CHARGE CORD OVERHEATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SENT A TECHNICIAN, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE SPECIFIC CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER. THE COSMETIC DAMAGES WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
THE CHARGE HOUSING CAP FELL OFF. DEALER SAYS IT AFFECTS THE CHARGING CAPACITY $500 CHEAP CRAP!!!! IT DID NOT EVEN LAST 2-YEARS!!!! HOW CAN U ABUSE IT WHEN ALL U DO IS PUSH A BUTTON!! NEVER MORE... A FORD!!!
WE GET A "FAULT IN CHARGING" ERROR MESSAGE WHEN WE TRY TO CHARGE THE VEHICLE
UNABLE TO TURN OFF CAR WITH KEYLESS IGNITION. COMPUTER SEEMED TO THINK CAR WAS OFF AND WOULDN'T LET ME TURN IT ON BECAUSE IT THOUGHT IT WAS PLUGGED IN (WHICH IT WAS NOT) AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND I COULDN'T TURN IT OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH HER STEERING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V514000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,910.
EXCESSIVE TORQUE IS TOO EASILY APPLIED TO THE WHEELS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP CAUSING UNEXPECTED TRACTION LOSS AND TIRE SPIN EVEN UNDER LIGHT ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEED WHILE PASSING OR OTHERWISE USING CLOSE TO OR FULL POWER (IN A STRAIGHT LINE), THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY PULL TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER UNEXPECTEDLY. ANY NECESSARY STEERING CORRECTION CAUSES THE CAR TO PULL TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE AND OFTEN CAUSES THE CAR TO WANDER ACROSS THE LANE BACK AND FORTH AS I TRY TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. THESE ISSUES SEEM TO BE RELATED TO THE HIGH TORQUE OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AS WELL AS THE ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED "TORQUE VECTORING" DIFFERENTIAL. AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT I'VE NOTICED IS, WHEN COMING TO A STOP, SOMETIMES THE ELECTRONICS CONTROLLING THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION MOTOR GET CONFUSED, POWER IS APPLIED TO WHEELS IN A STUTTERING FASHION, REQUIRING EXTRA FORCE TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES UNTIL THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN (AS IT NORMALLY DOES WHEN COMING TO A STOP). DESPITE THE REQUIRED DATE OF INCIDENT FIELD BELOW, THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME INCIDENT AND COMMONLY HAPPENS ON A DAY TO DAY AND/OR INTERMITTENT BASIS.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (ABOUT 1/2 WAY THROUGH A 6-HOUR HIGHWAY TRIP), THE "STOP SAFELY" WARNING LIGHT AND ACCOMPANYING BEEPS STARTED AND THE ENGINE CUT OUT COMPLETELY. I HAD TO LATER LOOK UP IN THE MANUAL WHAT THE ORANGE TRIANGLE WARNING SYMBOL MEANT. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, AND IT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND WAS FINE FOR THE REST OF THE JOURNEY. I RAN THE CARS "VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT", WHICH DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY INDICATED THEY CONSULTED WITH FORD, WHO WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS. WHILE THIS IS A DIFFERENT MODEL, I DID NOTICE ONLINE THAT THE FOCUS ELECTRIC HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I SUGGESTED TO THE DEALER THEY CHECK IF THIS COULD BE THE SAME PROBLEM SHOWING UP IN A DIFFERENT MODEL (I HAVE NO IDEA IF THEY SHARE THE PARTS THAT CAUSED THE FOCUS ELECTRIC PROBLEM), BUT THEY REACTED LIKE THAT SUGGESTION MADE NO SENSE, SO I LET IT DROP. I HAVE HAD THE CAR 7 MONTHS (BOUGHT NEW) AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED, BUT IF IT HAD HAPPENED 20 MINUTES EARLIER WHEN WE WERE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN THE MIDDLE LANE IT COULD HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. AFTER HAVING THE CAR 4 DAYS, THE DEALER DID OFFER TO KEEP THE CAR LONGER AND DRIVE IT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT I OPTED TO PICK UP THE CAR.
AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 3,000 MILES TOWING OUR 2014 COAX ENERGI WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS WE HAD COME TO A STOP AND WHERE MAKING A LEFT TURN AS WE FINISHED THE LEFT TURN AS THE CARS TIRES STARTED TO COME BACK TO CENTER THE TIRES BEGAN SHAKING BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY AND ONLY STOPS AFTER YOU COME TO A STOP. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN BEING TOWED BEHIND AN RV. I HAVE FOUND A COUPLE OF POSTS IN THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FORD COAX ENERGI. FORD HAS NO ANSWER FOR THIS. THE CARS MANUAL STATES THAT IT IS TOWABLE BEHIND A MOTORHOME AND IT WAS FOR THE FIRST 3,000 MILES THEN THE DREADED DEATH WOBBLE STARTED. MY BEST GUESS IS THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THE SUSPENSION AFTER THE 3,OOO MILES BUT SO FAR FORD CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG.
THE CAR HAS 2-4 CONNECTIONS FOR A CELL PHONE AND THE USB CONNECTIONS ARE LOCATED IN THE CENTER CONSUL AND WHEN IT IS USED IT CONNECTS TO THE DISPLAY MONITOR ON THE DASH. BUT WHEN IT IS USED FOR A CELL PHONE THE CELL PHONE WILL NOT CHARGED AT ANY RATE. THE CELL PHONE GOES COMPLETELY DEAD AND IT IS NO LONGER A PART OF THE CAR/PHONE SYSTEM. I TRIED USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHARGING CORDS AND I HAVE AN IPHONE 5S. I EVEN TURN-OFF THE PHONE TO GET IT TO CHARGE BUT NOTHING WORKS. I HAVE TO CONNECT THE PHONE TO THE BACK SEAT PLUG WHICH IS VERY INCONVENIENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO GET CHECK AND THE TECHNICIAN INITIALLY SAID THE USC WAS OK, BUT WHEN I HAD HIM USE MY CELL WITH NO APS OPEN HE DID VERIFIED THAT THE PHONE DID NOT CHARGE AND THE POWER DEPLETED. HE SAID HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME AFTER HE CONTACTS SOMEONE FOR FURTHER GUIDANCE. *TR
THE COMPASS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD NEXT TO THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATES INACCURATE PERPENDICULAR DIRECTIONS WHILE INDICATING THE CORRECT DIRECTION OF PROGRESS. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN THE CAR IS PROGRESSING NORTH THE TOP OF THE DIAL INDICATES "N" FOR NORTH CORRECTLY. BUT THE MARKING ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHICH SHOULD INDICATE "E" FOR EAST INSTEAD INDICATES "W" FOR WEST WHILE THE MARKING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE ALSO INACCURATELY INDICATES THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. WHEN PROGRESSING WEST, SOUTH OR EAST THE SAME REVERSAL OF THE PERPENDICULAR DIRECTIONS OCCURS. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT FOR ME SINCE I AM AWARE OF IT. BUT IT HAS OBVIOUS POTENTIAL TO CONFUSE AT THE LEAST AND MISGUIDE AT WORST WHEN ONE IS USING THE COMPASS WHILE ALSO CONSULTING WRITTEN DIRECTIONS. IT WOULD ALSO BE IMPOSSIBLE TO COORDINATE THE COMPASS WITH A GPS NAVIGATOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD C-MAX. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND FAILED TO TURN. AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, THE STEERING WHEEL OPERATED AS NORMAL. IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V514000(STEERING). THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
2014 FORD C-MAX. CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR, TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. *TA THE CONSUMER TRIED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT COULD NOT AND CONSEQUENTLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. *JB UPDATED 12/14/14*JB
THE AVERAGE MILES PER GALLON OF FUEL IS INCORRECT BECAUSE THE FUEL USAGE IS INCORRECT. THIS VEHICLE HAS A DISPLAY THAT INDICATES THE AMOUNT OF FUEL USED. I RESET WITH EVERY FILL-UP. IT IS CONSISTENTLY WRONG. USUALLY LOW BY .5 TO .7 GALLONS. THIS PRODUCES A FALSE AVERAGE MILES PER GALLON READING. *TR
AFTER RAIN, THE SENSOR WARNING ON MY CAR WENT OFF ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS ON THE DASHBOARD, AND I RAN A VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT CLAIMED EVERYTHING TO BE FINE. I TRIED USING MY CAR HOURS LATER (BY THIS TIME MY CAR WAS DRY AND HAD BEEN PARKED IN AN INDOOR GARAGE). WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE THE LOUD WARNING SOUND AGAIN WENT OFF. SOMETIMES IT IS A CONTINUOUS SOUND, OTHER TIMES IT STARTS WHEN I COME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN (EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NO CARS OR ANYTHING NEARBY MY CAR TO WOULD SET THE SENSORS OFF). THE LONGEST TIME THE WARNING SOUND WENT OFF CONTINUOUSLY WAS FOR A 30 MINUTE. HOWEVER, THE SENSOR WARNING WENT OFF (ON AND OFF) THROUGHOUT A 2 HOUR DRIVE. THERE ARE A VARIETY OF SPEEDS AT WHICH THIS HAS HAPPENED- WHEN THE CAR IS NOT MOVING (PUTTING IT IN REVERSE OR DRIVE), WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP FROM ABOUT 35MPH, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO CAR NEARBY AT 45-55MPH. I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR A MONTH NOW, WITH 350 MILES ON IT NOW. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP, BUT THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO REPRODUCE THE SENSOR WARNING SOUND OR FIGURE OUT WHICH SENSOR OR SENSORS ARE BAD. *TR
1ST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY DIED WHILE I WAS DOING 50MPH DOWN A 5 LANE ROAD. ALL ELECTRICAL WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LOST MY POWER STEERING AND BRAKING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AS IT WOULD NOT RE-START. 2ND TIME ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER GETTING THE CAR "FIXED" THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I75 WITH SAME SCENARIO. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON SHOULDER AND HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED IN. 3RD TIME AFTER GETTING THE "FIXED" VEHICLE BACK THE RADIO WENT OUT, THEN THE CLOCK WENT WACKY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN OFF. THEN WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS THE CAR SIMPLY DID NOT RESTART. NO POWER TO THE DASH, LOCKS, ETC. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED IN. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AGAIN AND THE 4TH TIME AFTER DRIVING AN 1 1/2 HOURS TO WORK THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART WITHOUT BEING JUMP STARTED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND I AM BEING FORCED TO TAKE BACK A BRAND NEW 2014 FORD CMAX ENERGI WITH 4400 MILES ON IT THAT KEEPS DYING EVERY WEEK. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE NOR DO I WANT THE VEHICLE ANY LONGER. FORD HAS NOT YET SENT ANY SPECIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE DEALER TO HELP RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. *TR
