Vehicle smells like gas. Drivetrain malfunction light comes on, car sputters and shakes, goes off after a couple of days and then comes back on and shakes 4 months or more later. Loses power or won’t accelerate while traveling more than 50 mph
Passenger side door lock stopped working at the mileage of 71,269. The door lock tab is in down position while door is unlocked. One can open the door while the car is unlocked. Security alarm does not get kicked in. I originally reported the problem of locks sticking when lock/unlock the car at the mileage of 45775 (under warranty). Dealer said that although they are sticking but still work. They are now charging $839 to have one replaced. My online research shows that this problem is very prevalent. It becomes a safety issue when one can break in the car without setting off alarm.
- As I was driving down the road, my sunroof exploded. There was a large popping sound like the release of pressurized air, and glass began falling down. I had the visor closed so it was able to catch most of it. When I was able to pull over, There was a large hole, nearly the size of the sunroof. The surrounding glass that remained was shattered. - My safety was in danger from the falling glass, and the distraction while driving down an interstate. - I cannot find any delaer or recall that can help me, although it seems to be a common problem. - It has been inspected by my insurace company. - There were no warnings.
At random the car will display “Drivetrain Malfunction” which causes the car to shift into neutral and begins to slow down until it doesn’t move anymore. There is no check engine light or any other indicator of what might be the problem. The message just pops out of no where. It’s happen in the freeway making me scare to cause an accident because it so random. I’ve had to quickly turn my hazards and beginning switching lanes to avoid any accidents.
My girlfriend has owned this vehicle for about two years now. Along with other maintenance (all understandable until now) there is a $2000 cost. The Fuel tank has started leaking due to a major design flaw by BMW. To save money they (bmw) used tanks from previous model years and glued a cap over a no longer needed hole and now the cap is not sealing and the tank is leaking! If you do not believe me look at pictures of used 2015 BMW 328i fuel tanks. It is beyond me why a car so expensive could have something designed so amateur.
WHILE DRIVING BOTH IN REGULAR TRAFFIC AND HIGHWAY TRAFFIC THE CAR HAS WITHOUT WARNING GONE INTO A LIMP MODE SHUDDERING ALLOWING NO POWER AT ALL TO THE ACCELERATOR. A MESSAGE POPS UP "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION MAXIMUM DRIVETRAIN OUTPUT NOT AT AVAILABLE. IF YOU GET PULLED OVER TURN THE VEHICLE OFF WAIT A COUPLE MINUTES TURN THE IGNITION BACK ON THE VEHICLE RUNS LIKE THAT NEVER HAPPENED. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THE VEHICLE GOES LIMP NO POWER WHILE ON THE FREEWAY IN FRONT OF A BIG 18 WHEELER IT HAPPENED TO ME THE OTHER VEHICLES DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR VEHICLE JUST DIED WHILE GOING 75 MPH.
I HAVE A 2015 BMW 328I WITH JUST OVER 40,000 MILES. A FEW WEEKS AGO I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A DASH WARNING FOR A "LEFT TURN SIGNAL MALFUNCTION" HOWEVER IT WAS INTERMITTENT AND WOULD OFTEN GO OFF WHEN TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING. THEN I BEGAN GETTING A "LEFT BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION" WARNING AS WELL. SOMETIMES I'D GET ONE OR THE OTHER. SOMETIMES I WOULD GET BOTH. ALWAYS INTERMITTENT. SOMETIMES IT WOULD COME ON AT ENGINE START UP. SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS NOW COME ON AND IS CONTINUOUS. I PURCHASED NEW BULBS HOPING IT WOULD SOLVE IT ALTHOUGH DOUBTFUL THAT THE BULB WAS ACTUALLY THE PROBLEM. AS IT TURNS OUT, THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE PIGTAIL CONNECTOR AND ONE OF THE PRONGS IS BURNT OUT. SO I HAVE NO LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL OR LEFT BRAKE LIGHT AFTER SOME GOOGLING, I DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS CAR. I AM OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY BUT DO PLAN TO FILE A CLAIM USING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. THAT BEING SAID, WITH THE FREQUENCY THAT THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO OCCUR I AM INCREDIBLY SURPRISED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUED.
THERE WERE MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (3 TIMES LAST YEAR AND 2 THIS YEAR) WHEN DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE IMMEDIATE REMEDY IS TO UNLOCK USING THE CENTER CONSOLE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION ESP. WHEN A CAR GETS IN AN ACCIDENT OR NOT REACH BUTTON PREVENTING SAFE ESCAPE. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN CAR HAS PARKED AND ATTEMPTING TO OPEN DOOR FROM LATCH. I ENDED UP HAVING THE CAR FIXED BY DEALER AT STEVEN CREEK BMW FOR $1200+ LAST WEEK REPLACING CABLE/LATCH ASSEMBLY. MY 328I XDRIVE IS BARELY 6 YEARS OLD AND FEEL THAT A MATURE PLATFORM SHOULD NOT PREVENT YOU FROM SAFELY EXITING YOUR CAR.

THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A.R.T.S. AUTO SERVICE (1899 GRAND CENTRAL AVE, HORSEHEADS, NY 14845) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT CORROSION CAUSED THE STEERING RACK TO SEPARATE AND DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,115.
VALVE COVER SEAL FAILURE. SMOKE IN COMPARTMENT AND IN ENGINE BLOCK
FUEL TANK SPLIT AT FACTORY SEAM CAUSING FUEL TO POUR OUT OF TANK WHEN FULL. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AFTER FILLING TANK AND DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE. WHEN I CAME OUT TO MY CAR WHICH WAS PARKED, I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2015 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW OF ROSEVILLE (500 AUTOMALL DR, ROSEVILLE, CA 95661) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE COOLANT THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL 20V185000. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED THE CAR PAYMENTS FOR THE MONTHS THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN USE.*JS
BRACKET USED TO HOLD EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE TO PANEL SNAPPED AND NOW BRAKE LINE IS RUNNING UP AGAINST THE DRIVE SHAFT WHICH COULD CAUSE CABLE TO SNAP. THIS SEEMS TO BE WEAR AND TEAR AS NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THIS HAPPENED. MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS HAPPENING TO 2014-2016 VEHICLES AND SEEMS TO BE A SIMILAR ISSUE THAT HAPPENED ON RECALL OF THE 2001 M3.

MY 2015 BMW 328I LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND LEFT BRAKE HAVE MALFUNCTIONED FOR SOME MONTHS NOW. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS AND ITS NOT WORKING. I KNOW IT HAS TO BE SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY KNOW ISSUE LIKE MINE BUT THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR MY MODEL BMW.
DRIVER'S DOOR AND FRONT PASSENGER'S DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE INTERIOR DOOR LEVER. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT CAN HAPPEN ONCE A MONTH OR ONCE A WEEK. LOCK KNOB ON THE DOOR POPS UP AND THEN BACK DOWN WHEN USING THE LEVER. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR IS TO PRESS THE DASH DOOR LOCK BUTTON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS ALL BMW'S HAVE AN AUTOMATIC BATTERY DISCONNECT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT; THEREFORE THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE! I SPOKE TO THE LOCAL BMW SERVICE AGENT AND HE SAID THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BUT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY BMW. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL!!!!!
I PULLED INTO MY LONG NARROW DRIVEWAY (ABOUT 100 FEET) SLOWLY AT ABOUT 3 MPH. I LET THE CAR GO BY ITS MOMENTUM AND LIGHTLY PRESSED ON THE BRAKE SO IT COULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY ABOUT 7 FEET FROM THE FRONT OF THE GARAGE, IT ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND SMASHED THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR AND PART OF THE GARAGE. I PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE, BUT IT KEPT GOING AND HIT THE BACK WALL BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE POLICE AND MY INSURANCE, AND THE INSURANCE DECLARED THE CAR WAS TOTAL LOSS AND THEY TOWED IT AWAY.

INTERMITTENTLY IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE OF MY VEHICLE USING THE DOOR HANDLE.. THE DOOR REMAINS LOCKED AND WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE BY PULLING THE DOOR HANDLE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE OR OVER 50 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO GIVE IT GAS AND A "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" COMES ON. THE CAR THEN GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND THE ENGINE SHAKES. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO GIVE IT GAS AND BEFORE THE "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" COMES ON YOU CAN FEEL THE GAS OR FUEL PUMP JERK. THEN I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO GIVE THE CAR GAS, LIMP BODE HAPPENS, ENGINE SHAKES, AND THE CAR PUTS ITSELF IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO GET IN THE EMERGENCY LANE WITHOUT GETTING HIT AND TURN THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES TO RESET THE LIGHTS. BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A BODY SHOP TWICE, STILL NOT FIXED.

TRUNK WILL NOT OPEN. THE FOB, BUTTONS, LATCH...NOTHING WORKS TO OPEN THE TRUNK. THE ONLY WAY IT WILL OPEN IS IF I REACH INTO THE TRUNK FROM BEHIND THE REAR SEAT AND PULL THE EMERGENCY LATCH RELEASE.

GREETINGS: WE HAVE A 2015 BMW328I WHICH CAME WITH CONTINENTAL SPORT/CONTACT TIRES INSTALLED SINCE NEW. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 26000 MILES. DURING A RECENT REGULAR MAINTENANCE VISIT IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIRES HAVE BECOME UNSAFE DUE TO BROKEN/SEPARATED CORD WHICH HAS CAUSED THE TREAD TO RAISE UNEVENLY CAUSING EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE AND VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. THE TIRES WERE DETERMINED TO BE UNSAFE AND WERE REPLACED. WE ALSO HAD THIS SAME ISSUE ON A 2015 HONDA CIVIC EQUIPPED WITH OEM CONTINENTAL TIRES AND HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS WHEN NEW AND THOSE TIRES WERE REPLACED PRIOR TO 1000 MILES WITH NEW CONTINENTAL OEM TIRES AND AGAIN SHOWED SCALLOPING AND UNEVEN TREAD RAISE BY 12000 MILES. WE FIND THIS A TREND WITH THESE TIRES AND HAVE PREEMPTED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THESE TIRES BY REPLACING THEM, AT OUR EXPENSE, SINCE THE DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT HONOR A TIRE WARRANTY. WE ALSO FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT THE CONSUMER AND OPERATORS OF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES BE MADE AWARE OF.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ATTACH A CHILD SEAT OR A CHILD BOOSTER SEAT IN THE REAR SEATING AREA IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ATTACH THE SEAT BELT BECAUSE THE STRAP FROM THE BUCKLE TO WHERE THE BUCKLE IS ATTACHED TO THE BODY UNDER THE SEAT IS TOO SHORT . YOU CAN NOT HOLD THE BUCKLE AND INSERT THE BELT WITH OUT THE BUCKLE BEING FORCED INTO AND UNDER THE SEAT. I HAVE ATTACHED A CORD TO ASSIST THIS BUCKLING ISSUE BUT IT IS STILL DIFFICULT TO BUCKLE
REAR SPOILER MALFUNCTION APPEARED ON MY SCREEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ROUGHLY 30 MILES PER HOUR, THEN THE REAR SPOILER BEGAN TO SMOKE WITHIN 60 SECONDS. I PULLED THE CAR OVER TO PARK IT, AND AFTER ANOTHER 100 SECONDS, THE SPOILER CAUGHT FIRE AND WITHIN 180 MORE SECONDS THE WHOLE REAR OF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. BY THIS TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES.
I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT INVOLVING FAILURE FOR THE CAR TO BRAKE PROPERLY AND REVING UP AFTER BEING ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP. I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH BEFORE NEEDING TO STOP. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AT A REASONABLE DISTANCE TO STOP FOR THE TRAFFIC AHEAD FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT WAS NOT A SUDDEN STOP OR TAILGATING SITUATION. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP OR VERY NEAR STOP APPROXIMATELY 18 INCHES FROM THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. IT SUDDENLY REVVED UP AND ACCELERATED AND MOVED FORWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS DEPRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AT ALL TIMES. THE REVVING CONTINUED FOR SECONDS AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD SEVERAL TIMES. IT HIT THE CAR THE FIRST TIME AND CONTINUED REVVING AND MOVED FORWARD HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT SEVERAL TIMES. THE CAR IN FRONT WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP ALL READY WHEN I HIT IT. MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE MY CONTINUING TO HOLD THE BRAKE DOWN FIRMLY.. IT CONTINUED TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME 3 OR 4 TIMES BEFORE FINALLY STOPPING. THIS RESULTED IN THREE SUBSEQUENT CARS IN FRONT OF ME ALL BEING PUSHED INTO EACH OTHER. I ADVISED MY INSURANCE CARRIER AND POLICE OF THE SITUATION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE BMW DEALER NEAR ME TODAY, OCTOBER 16TH AND I TOLD THEM OF THE SITUATION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 40 YEARS AND NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND AM VERY VERY CERTAIN THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED AND THE CAR AND IT WAS NOT DRIVER ERROR. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AND AM PRESENTLY AWAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THE CAR DEALER TO HEAR OF THEIR FINDINGS. IN SPEAKING WITH THE MECHANIC (NOT THE SERVICE ADVISOR WHO WAS FINE) AND TELLING HIM THE SPECIFICS AS STATED HERE, I SENSED SKEPTICISM THAT THIS ACTUALLY OCCURRED.
MY COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE RADIO, AND RECEPTION. I HAVE BEEN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS IN 3 DIFFERENT TOWNS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE RADIO/ANTENNA IS OK. THE PROBLEM IS I HAVE A 2007 BMW AND A 3012 GOTD FUSION, AS WELL AS MY FORMER SPOUSE HAS A 2017 FORD MUSTANG AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM GETTING RADIO STATIONS IN EITHER OF THESE VEHICLES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 BMW 328I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND LOST ACCELERATION INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS NOTIFIED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN AT HIGH SPEEDS FOR A LONG TIME. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THE SOFTWARE SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,455.
GRAN TURISMO TAILGATE CRASHED UPON MY HEAD WITHOUT TAIL WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING OR ALARM. NO FOOT KICKING TO ACTIVATE THE FEATURE WAS INVOKED. WHILE PARKED WITH THE HATCH OPEN, I WAS SIMPLY PLACING GROCERIES INTO MY TRUNK. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, AND CAN NOT BE REPEATED UPON DEMAND. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEMO THE PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST EVENT. I ALSO UNCOVERED SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE TAILGATE. THE KICKING FEATURE TO ACTIVATE TAILGATE LIFTING AND LOWERING DOESN'T WORK 100%. VIGOROUS KICKING IN DIFFERENT SPOTS IS NEEDED TO ACTIVATE THE HANDS FREE FEATURE. SOMETIMES THERE IS A PARTIAL DROP AND REOPENING OF THE TAILGATE. SOMETIMES THE ALARM WORKS AND SOMETIMES NOT. WHEN HANDS FREE CLOSING OF HATCH, AN OBSTRUCTION WILL NOT CAUSE THE DOOR TO RETREAT. FINALLY THE HATCH WILL CLOSE WITHOUT ANY WARNING.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS AT APPROX 50 MPH ON A TWO LANE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, WARNING LIGHTS AND BUZZER SOUNDED. THE MESSAGE ON SCREEN REPORTED 'DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION, DRIVE MODERATELY'. THE CAR CONTINUED TO OPERATE, VIBRATING BADLY WHENEVER I GAVE IT GAS. WE LIMPED HOME, SHUT IT OFF. TWO HOURS LATER I RESTARTED IT AND ALL THE ERROR WARNINGS DISAPPEARED AND THE CAR IS RUNNING NORMALLY AGAIN.
GLASS SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 80MPH. GLASS SHATTERED AND FELL ONTO ME (DRIVER), THE PASSENGER SEAT, CONSOLE, AND BACK SEAT. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND ME AT THE TIME, AND THERE WAS NO DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY, ON A CLEAR ROAD. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT, ON A SMOOTH STRETCH OF HIGHWAY, NO BUMPS ON THE ROAD, AND THE ROAD WAS CLEAR. TINY SHARD OF GLASS CAUSED A MINOR CUT ON PALM OF HAND, OTHERWISE NO INJURIES TO REPORT.
WHILE IN MOTION ON AN INTERSTATE THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO SPUTTER AND LOSE MOMENTUM. AT THE SAME TIME, A WARNING ALERTED US TO A "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION". LUCKILY, WE WERE IN THE LANE CLOSEST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALER IN LAS VEGAS WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 17,000 MILES. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, WE FOUND THAT BMW HAS A HISTORY OF FUEL PUMP RECALLS ALTHOUGH NONE FOR OUR MODEL YEAR. THIS INCIDENT WAS QUITE DANGEROUS CONSIDERING THE CAR SUDDENLY BEING INOPERABLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. WERE WE NOT IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY.
SUNROOF EXPLODED-2015 BMW 328I SEDAN-ON FRIDAY, 6/24/16 AROUND 8:15AM, WHILE TRAVELING IN WASH, DC'S RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT 35-45MPH ON ROUTE 295N, A LOUD BLAST, LIKE A BOMB, SUDDENLY JOLTED MY CAR! FEARFULLY, I CONTINUED TO STEER THE CAR LOOKING FOR A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER, WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET BEYOND A CURVE IN THE ROAD. I PULLED OVER, MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE OK BUT BEWILDERED WHEN WE SAW A LARGE GAPING HOLE IN THE CENTER OF MY SUNROOF! I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT THAT WE HAD BEEN SHOT OR A LARGE OBJECT HAD HIT US. GLASS CHIPS BEGAN FALLING ON US. STILL IN SHOCK, IT TOOK ME A FEW MINUTES TO REALIZE THAT I SHOULD CLOSE THE SUNSHADE! NOT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED, WE WERE TOO SCARED TO EXIT THE CAR, SO MY DAUGHTER CALLED 911 AND I PRESSED MY SOS BUTTON FOR ASSISTANCE. WE SIMULTANEOUSLY WERE TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION TO THE RECEIVERS OF OUR CALLS. A DC POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED AND QUICKLY ACCESSED THE INCIDENT. HE'D WITNESSED THE SAME ON A FEW OTHER MAKES OF CARS. HE ASSURED US THAT BASED ON THE OUTWARD PROTRUSION OF THE REMAINING GLASS, THE IMPACT WAS FROM WITHIN, IT HAD EXPLODED, NOT IMPLODED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A SHOT OR OBJECT OF ANY SIZE HITTING THE CAR. THERE WERE A FEW PIECES OF VARIOUS SIZED SHATTERED GLASS ON THE BACKSEAT, WHERE MY GRANDSON'S CAR SEAT CADDY WAS. THE OFFICER EVENTUALLY CONVINCED ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE TO MY DEALER AND I DID SO. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE BMW DEALER, THE SERVICE MGR. IMMEDIATELY ACKNOWLEDGED TO ME AND GATHERING COWORKERS, OF SEEING PREVIOUS SUNROOF EXPLOSIONS. HOWEVER, IN TWO FOLLOW-UP CALLS HE STATED THAT BMW WOULD NOT COVER (PAY). THE 2ND CALL, AFTER FOLLOWING UP WITH HIS MANAGER PER MY REQUEST, HE STATED THAT [IT] COULD ONLY SHATTER IF SOMETHING HIT AN EXISTING CRACK...THE SAME WITH THE PREVIOUS SUNROOFS INCIDENTS HE HAD SEEN. I DID NOT HAVE A CRACK IN MY SUNROOF PREVIOUS TO THIS INCIDENT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 BMW 3281 EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL 400 TIRES, SIZE: 205/50/R17 (NA). WHILE AT A CAR WASH, A TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM AN UNKNOWN TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TREAD SEPARATED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. IN ADDITION, WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN.

BMW North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, and ActiveHybrid3 vehicles manufactured October 20, 2011, to June 22, 2015, 2014-2015 328xi Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured March 21, 2013, to March 17, 2015, 2014-2015 328d, 328xd vehicles manufactured June 28, 2013, to April 21, 2015, and 2014-2015 328xd Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured July 5, 2013, to April 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
