The fuel tank has some kind of leak, not specified where by the dealership, but I suspect it is on the top of the tank. When I first had this vehicle serviced in 2019, I mentioned a small of diesel. The service advisor told me it was a diesel "feature". Having recently acquired another diesel vehicle that does not smell, I requested a proper check be made this year. I now believe the tank was leaking when I first bought the car in 2018. A cursory search of the Internet shows that this is not an unusual occurrence. I was quoted $3200 for the repair, a ridiculous amount that is probably 25% the market value of a non-leaking car. BMW need to recall all F30 models and replace any leaking tanks at their expense. I am only continuing to use the vehicle as no liquid is in evidence and diesel is very hard to ignite. Were the car gasoline powered I would have little choice but to get the car repaired.
The contact owns a 2015 BMW 328D. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V755000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair and the contact was informed by the dealer that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve needed to be replaced due to leakage however, the EGR valve was not part of the recall repair, and the contact needed to pay for EGR valve. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 67,409. Parts distribution disconnect.
DIESEL FUEL FOUND IN UNEXPECTED AREAS INCLUDING WIRING HARNESS, FUEL INJECTORS, PRESSURE SENSORS, TURBO CHARGER COMPONENT, DDE, EGR, ETC. UNABLE TO LOCATE SOURCE OF FUEL LEAK INTO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUSING POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD OR SERIOUS VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONING. ADVISED BY BMW SERVICE MANAGER THAT COST TO PERFORM REPAIR MORE COSTLY THAN VALUE OF VEHICLE. BMW NOT SUPPORTIVE IN CORRECTION OR ASSISTANCE WITH ISSUES. OVER 2.5 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, VEHICLE SERVICED >5+ TIMES FOR ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION ALERTS. EGR VALVE REPLACED X3, EXHAUST PRE DPFTEMP SENSOR,ETC. SERVICE PERFORMED ON RECALLED FLEX DISC B27, AND EGR COOLER (MULTIPLE TIMES)PER ADVISORY. REGULAR AND TIMELY MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT FREEWAY SPEED IT SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOST POWER CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO TAKE ACTION TO CROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL RAIL AND ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS HOWEVER THIS DID NOT PREVENT REREPEATED RECURRENCE OF THE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED IT WILL LEAD TO A DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THE BMW REPAIRED IT. CAR DISPLAYS DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION MESSAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

RECALL CAMPAIGN 18V-755 (EGR). NO REMEDY. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR SINCE THE RECALL HAS COME OUT AND BMW HAS NOT FIXED MY CAR
THE HALOGEN LAMPED HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT SUPPORT DRIVING MORE THAT 35 MPH THE CONSUMER STATED THE HEADLIGHTS WERE INSUFFICIENT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *JS
I THEN BOOKED AN APPOINTMENT AT BMW ENCINITAS ON MONDAY, 6/3 TO GET IT FIXED. THEY DIAGNOSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND QUOTED ME THAT IT WAS ALL PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE. I SIGNED THE PAPERWORK, AND MY SERVICE ADVISOR JOEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S BACKLOG, THE CAR WOULDN'T BE READY UNTIL TUESDAY 6/4 IN THE EVENING. THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME A LOANER VEHICLE, SO I HAD TO CALL MY MOM TO PICK ME UP. LATER THAT AFTERNOON, I GOT A CALL FROM MY SERVICE ADVISOR SAYING THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T BE READY UNTIL FRIDAY, 6/7. ON WEDNESDAY 6/5, I RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM MY SERVICE ADVISOR SAYING THAT MY EGR COOLER WAS FAULTY AND WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE, BUT THAT THE PART THAT TRIPPED THE LIGHT, THE EGR VALVE, WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT WE WOULD BE CHARGED $416.00 + TAX TO GET IT FIXED. THIS WAS AFTER THEY HAD QUOTED ME 'NO CHARGE' TO HAVE IT ALL FIXED. EVEN IF THE PART IN QUESTION IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, IF BMW WOULD HAVE HAD EGR COOLERS IN STOCK AND TAKEN MY CAR IN SOONER, THE EGR VALVE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN. WE AGREED TO PAY THE CHARGE TO GET MY CAR OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS. MY WHOLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE RECALL HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A DISASTER. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST RECALL I'VE EVER BEEN A PART OF. ON THURSDAY, 6/6, I RECEIVED A CALL THAT MY CAR WAS READY. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK IT UP, AND THEY CHARGED $448.50 FOR THE FAULTY VALVE, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY THE FAULTY COOLER.
WHEN I FIRST HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE EGR COOLER, I CHECKED BMW'S WEBSITE AND IT SAID THAT THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER, ONLY TO HAVE THEM SAY PARTS WEREN'T READY. I GOT A "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" ERROR WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL A FEW MONTHS AGO. AFTER I GOT OUT OF SCHOOL, I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE EGR COOLER RECALL. HE RESET THE CODE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. MY MECHANIC RESET THE CODE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY AGAIN. I CHECKED BMW'S WEBSITE AGAIN AND THEY SAID PARTS WERE READY. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT PARTS WEREN'T READY. JUST TODAY, I GOT ANOTHER "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION" ERROR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STAYING ON. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE RESET THE CODE, BUT NOW THE LIGHT IS PERSISTENTLY ON NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE RESET THE FAULT CODE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS AND BMW DOES NOT HAVE PARTS READY. EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR, I WORRY THAT IT'LL CATCH FIRE OR SOMETHING AND LEAVE ME STRANDED ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I ALMOST FEEL LIKE BMW SHOULD BUY MY CAR BACK, SINCE IT HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM 3 TIMES IN A ROW.
PANORAMIC MOONROOF EXPLODED SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING
I WAS DRIVING ON I-91 AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED DECELERATING ON ITS OWN WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS OR OTHER INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE AND SAW SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. I CALLED 911 AND THE CAR WAS VISIBLY ON FIRE BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED.
