Our BMW X1 needs a new front differential. It has 88,500 miles. Dealer explained that this could cause the vehicle to stall in an unsafe way. BMW has developed a repair kit for this fix and we have found many complaints from owners online saying they've had the same problem atttributed to a flawed bearing design. A repair on this vehicle is $4,157 for a new BMW unit or $2800 for a used unit. This seems like a very expensive defect for the mileage of the vehicle and it is a safety concern. BMW has denied requests for assistance. We are wondering if a recall might be appropriate if a pattern of consumers are reporting this problem and just wanted to make you aware. The vehicle is making a grinding noise but hasn't stalled yet; the dealer is just warning us that will happen upon a complete failure.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE IGNITION CORD AND OIL PAN WAS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.

DRIVING ON HWY AT 75 MPH EASTBOUND TOWARDS WICHITA FALLS TX - CALM EVENING, SUDDENLY THE FRONT PANEL OF THE SUNROOF ON THE BMW X1 EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. PULLED OVER TO LOOK AT THE REMNANTS, REMAINING GLASS LOOKED LIKE THE EXPLOSION WAS PUSHING THE GLASS OUT FROM THE INSIDE. VERY SCARY ON THE HWY.
MY TIRES ARE WORN OUT PAST ACCEPTABLE TO PASS STATE INSPECTION AND YET THE DEALER INSPECTED MY CAR AND PASSED IT AND REGISTERED IT. CHASSIS CORRODED AND WHEELS ROTTING. I BOUGHT THE CAR ON THE 14TYH AND DEALER DIDN'T DELIVER IT UNTIL THE 21ST BECAUSE OF APPARENT MISSING TITLE. ON MARCH 29, 2019 I TOOK MY CAR IN DUE TO A COOLANT INDICATOR WARNING LIGHT. NALLEY BMW INDICATED IT WAS DUE TO A NEED FOR A RADIATOR. THIS IS THE FOURTH RADIATOR NALLEY BMW AND GLOBAL BMW HAVE REPLACED WITH THE LAST TWO YEARS. I HAVE PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FOUR REPLACEMENTS OF A RADIATOR IN UNDER TWO YEARS. THEY WILL REPAIR THE RADIATOR AND ALLOW DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME. I WILL DRIVE ABOUT 500 MORE MILES BEFORE THE COOLANT LIGHT COMES BACK ON INDICATING TROUBLE. EACH TIME, THE COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON, THE RADIATOR HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES. MARCH 29TH WOULD MAKE THE FOURTH TIME THE RADIATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED IN UNDER TWO YEARS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ORDERED AN INVESTIGATION. THE CONTACT DID NOT STATE IF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,800.

TAKATA RECALL - I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM THE BMW DEALERSHIP STATING THE RECALL OF THE DRIVER'S AIR-BAG, THAT THEY HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. WHEN I CALLED TO SCHEDULE THE SERVICE I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART. I CALLED ON10/16/17, WAS INFORMED AS SOON AS THE PART WAS IN THEY WOULD CALL ME. I CALLED AGAIN TODAY, 12/20/17 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS STILL ABOUT 13 WEEKS OUT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ONLY SENDING THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 20 AIRBAGS AT A TIME AND THAT THE IS THE REASON THAT IT IS TAKING SO LONG. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT WILL TAKE OVER 23 WEEKS FOR ME TO RECEIVE THE PART/AIRBAG THAT I NEED TO HAVE REPLACED. MY RECALL LETTER STATED THAT IF THE BMW CENTER IS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME THAT I SHOULD NOTIFY THE ADMINISTRATOR, NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. THE LETTER FOR THE RECALL IS DATED SEPTEMBER 2017.
ON HIGHWAY, WHEN SPEED REACHES BETWEEN 60 TO 80 MPH, THE CAR FEELS UNSTABLE. IT IS LIKE THE TWO FRONT TIRES ARE RUNNING OUT OF AIR AND I HAVE TO FIGHT TO STEER THE CAR TO KEEP IT GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I TOOK IT INTO TWO DEALERSHIPS AND THEY TESTED THE ALIGNMENT AND INFLATED THE TIRES TO MANUFACTURER'S SPECS BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS ALL THEY COULD DO AND NOTHING ELSE.

THEY TELL ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS OR THE LAST TIME I CALLED THEY TOLD BE THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK AND I'VE NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM (SEVERAL MOS AGO). I TALKED W/ THE SALES PERSON I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD CALL ME BACK W/ STATUS AND HAVE NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HER. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING TO KEEP RECEIVING THESE AIRBAG RECALL NOTICE FROM BMW AND WHEN I CALL TO SEE WHEN THEY CAN REPAIR MY CAR, I NEVER HEAR BACK FROM THEM.

NOW I'VE RECEIVED A CALL AFTER 2 WEEKS WITH AN APPOINTMENT THAT RALPH SCHOMP BMW WAS TOLD BY BMW USA THAT THEY ARE LIMITED TO THE NUMBER OF AIRBAGS THEY ARE ALLOWED TO REPLACE EACH WEEK SO THEY NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT INDEFINITELY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NOW ON BACK ORDER, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE AIRBAG REPAIRED IN A TIMELY MANNER. I SPOKE WITH BMW USA & THEY ADVISED THAT YES, THEY ARE LIMITING HOW MANY RECALLS CAN BE REPAIRED EACH WEEK, BUT THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT ON BACK ORDER. SHE ADVISED I TRY A LARGER DEALER IN MY AREA OR COMPLAIN TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AS THEY CAN MAGICALLY GET THINGS REPAIRED. I AM WORKING WITH THE LARGEST DEALER IN THE REGION - SO, SINCE NOW I AM HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING REPAIRS MADE I'M CONTACTING YOU TO HELP ME. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR AUTHORIZED BMW CENTER IMMEDIATELY TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS IMPORTANT FREE REPAIR PERFORMED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE NOW OR IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW AND SUGGESTED IT MIGHT BE FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE LETTER IS FOR THE CORRECT MODEL. THE LETTER SENT SEEMS PATENTLY FALSE.

IN SEPT OF THIS YEAR, I GOT A NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, TELLING ME THEY HAD THE REPLACEMENT PARTS IN STOCK AND TO CALL MY LOCAL BMW DEALER IMMEDIATELY TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. I CALLED BMW OF HONOLULU ON 9/21 TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THE LADY I TALKED TO TOLD ME SHE WAS IN CHARGE OF THE AIRBAG RECALL. I ASKED FOR AN APPOINT ASAP AND SHE TOLD ME THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS DOWN AND THAT SHE WOULD CALL ME BACK THE SAME DAY. TODAY IS SAT, 10/14 AND NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK TO TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON OR WHEN OR IF THEY CAN DO THE REPAIR. ALL BMW DOES IS SEND THESE DIRE LETTERS TO MAKE ME WORRY BUT, THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING OR LET ME KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING.

CHECK TODAY 8/7/17 AND THEY STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHEN MY CAR WILL BE RECALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CALLED BMW MANUFACTURING TODAY AND THE TOLD ME MY VEHICLE IS IN GROUP #6 AND ZONE B AND THAT I WOULD BE RECEIVING A NOTICE SOMETIME BETWEEN SEPT 30 2017 AND DEC 31 2017 FOR SCHEDULING A APPOINTMENT TO FIX THE MY AIR BAG.

TAKATA RECALL THIS RECALL BEGAN FEBRUARY 2016 FOR MY VEHICLE MODEL. AS OF 3/16/17 THIS HAS YET TO BE CORRECTED. BMWFS AND BMW NA HAVE BOTH REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY COMPENSATION FOR LACK OF USE, AND ARE ACTIVELY PREVENTING THE VEHICLE LEASE FROM BEING TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN MY CURRENT LOCATION. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET A REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PART UNTIL AT LEAST JULY OF THIS YEAR, LEAVING ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE.

AT AROUND 8000 MILES THE CAR WOULD HESITATE UPON HARD ACCELERATION, (MERGING INTO TRAFFIC) THE CAR BECAME UNPREDICTABLE, SOMETIMES IT WOULD PREFORM AS DESIGNED OTHER TIMES IT WOULD PUT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND ADVISED THEM OF THE PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE COMPLAINT FROM OTHER OWNERS AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE A FIX. I CALLED BMWNA AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. AFTER A FEW OF TRYING TO GET AN APPOINTMENT UNSUCCESSFUL THE CAR ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT, I TOOK IT BACK IN AND AFTER A WEEK THEY HAD DECIDED TO REPROGRAM IT, UPON DRIVING THE CAR I NOTICED IT WAS MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE AND DROVE LIKE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR. HOWEVER IT DISPLAYED THE PROBLEM ON 2 MORE OCCASIONS JUST NOT AS SEVERE. I CALLED BMWNA AND UPDATED THEM, THEY SENT A FIELD ENGINEER OUT WHO LOOKED OVER THE CAR AND TOLD ME "JUST DRIVE IT IN SPORT MODE", I DONT FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD DRIVE IN SPORT MODE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. I CALLED BMWNA AND TOLD THEM OF THE RESULTS AND ASKED THEM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK, THEY REFUSED. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND UNPREDICTABLE.
TAKATA RECALL HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE FEB 2016 FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED. BMW HAS NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL BE RESOLVED.

BMW REFUSES TO LET ME OUT OF MY LEASE BUT DO NOT WANT TO FIX THE DEFECT BECAUSE THE PARTS ARE OUT OF STOCK FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND AM AFRAID FOR OUR SAFETY.

I CRASHED MY CAR ON 11/10/2015 AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I DROVE THROUGH A HEAVY RAIL FENCE AND STRUCK A TREE WITH THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE BUMPER. A LARGE SECTION OF THE FENCE PENETRATED THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND LODGED IN THE VEHICLE. CAUSE OF ACCIDENT I BECAME UNCONSCIOUS WHILE DRIVING DUE TO HEART PROBLEM
TAKATA RECALL. BMW DID NOT MAKE ME AWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS AIRBAG RECALL. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TRANSFERRING MY LEASE TO ANOTHER WILLING PARTY WHEN BMW NOTIFIED ME OF THE RECALL ISSUE AND BLOCKED THE LEASE TRANSFER WHICH THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY AGREED TO. THEY ALSO WILL NOT LET ME PURCHASE THE VEHICLE. BOTH THESE ISSUES BREACH THE LEASE AGREEMENT I SIGNED WITH THEM. THE CAR IS UNUSABLE WITH SUCH A DEFECT AND IS LIKELY TO TAKE 6MONTHS OR MORE TO FIX. THEY OFFER NO TIME LINE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND REQUEST THAT I SIGN A WAIVER ACCEPTING AN INFERIOR RENTAL CARE DURING THE PERIOD IT TAKES FOR THEM TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND ASSUME THE COST AND LIABILITY OF STORING THE UNUSABLE BMW. I EITHER WANT BMW TO FIX THE ISSUE IMMEDIATELY, LET ME CANCEL MY LEASE WITH NO PENALTY.
ON FEBRUARY 7TH, 2016 AT 3:15 AM, ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN FOREST HILL AND MILITARY, A DRUNK DRIVER TRAVELING WEST BOUND WHILE I WAS HEADING EAST DROVE INTO MY LANE, HITTING ME DIRECTLY. AFTER THIS HEAD-ON COLLISION, THE DRIVER DECIDED TO FLEE THE SCENE, LEAVING ME STUCK INSIDE THE VEHICLE IN PAIN. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ALIVE. THE AIRBAG INSIDE OF MY VEHICLE DID NOT DEPLOY LEAVING ME WITH EXCRUCIATING PAIN IN MY NECK, CHEST AND KNEE. I COULD NOT BREATHE OR TALK, I WAS RUSH TO THE WELLINGTON REGIONAL HOSPITAL. I WAS APPROACHING THE LIGHT AND I WAS GOING TO TURN LEFT ON MILITARY TRAIL, THE GUY WHO CRASHED ONTO ME WAS COMING FROM THE NORTH ON MILITARY TRAIL TRYING TO MAKE A RIGHT ONTO FOREST HILL BLVD, BUT TOOK THE LANE HEADING EAST INSTEAD OF THE ONE HEADING WEST. HE WAS DRIVING REALLY FAST WHILE I WAS APPROACHING THE LIGHT TO TURN LEFT.
THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON CITY STREET AND WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY
SERVICE ENGINE SOON, ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION, COOLANT LEVEL LOW, MAY DRIVE AT REDUCED SPEED. THESE ARE ALL THE ALERTS AND MESSAGES THAT POPPED UP WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER. THINKING MY VEHICLE WOULD STILL BE UNDER WARRANTY, WHICH IT'S RELATIVELY NEW AND UNDER 9K MILES. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SUFFERED FROM RODENT DAMAGE, AND THAT THE WARRANTY WILL NOT BE COVERING THE DAMAGES AND THAT I SHOULD FILE A CLAIM WITH MY AUTO INSURANCE. I INQUIRED ABOUT WHY THE RODENTS ARE ATTRACTED TO THE WIRING AND ALL THEY CAN SAY WAS TO HIRE PEST CONTROL AND THEY WOULD HELP ME RID OF RODENT ISSUES AT HOME. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT BMW HAD BEEN USING SOY BASED INGREDIENTS TO PRODUCE SOME OF THEIR WIRING PARTS AND COATING. THIS OF COURSE WAS NOT DISCLOSED AT TIME OF PURCHASE AND I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN ABOUT IT IF I HADN'T FACED WITH SUCH CIRCUMSTANCE. SO BOTTOM LINE, THERE IS NO RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE AND I WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO BRING MY VEHICLE IN IF RODENTS DECIDE TO HAVE A PARTY AGAIN IN MY VEHICLE OR I CAN MOVE.

FOR THE FOURTH TIME SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THE NEW CAR, DRIVING ON CITY STREET IN MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC, BRINGING THE CAR TO A STOP BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSED THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE TO REV ABOVE THE 3,000 RPM LEVEL. (AT THE LAST EVENT I WATCHED THE TACHOMETER GAUGE AS I WAS BRAKING.) EACH TIME I HAD TO PANIC-DEPRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE CAR IN FRONT. EACH TIME I COULD FEEL THE PULSATION OF THE ABS BRAKE ON THE PEDAL. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE CHRONIC MALFUNCTION. I WAITED FOR A RESPONSE UNTIL THIS MORNING WHEN I RECEIVED AN EMAIL ANNOUNCING THAT MY CAR WAS READY FOR PICK-UP, WITHOUT ANY MENTION OF DISPOSITION OR REPAIR. WHEN I CALLED AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. *TR
