The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA250. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, she heard an abnormal gunshot-like sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact then heard glass cracking and realized that the panoramic sunroof had shattered without incident. The contact was able to drive home despite the failure. The contact then contacted the dealer and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed her that a claim would be filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
I was driving and my car randomly changed to neutral on the highway in traffic. I could not changed the gear and was almost hit by several cars that swirved around me. There is a recall for the 2019 version of the car for this very same issue but it exists in all years prior and Mercedes has not addressed it. This is happening to many of us and is being reported at glaowners.com
The panoramic sunroof came off the rail and popped up almost detaching from the vehicle!!!
THE VEHICLE SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL AND SAYS 4 MATIC NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE TO COAST TO A STOP AND THEN SHUTOFF THE VEHICLE, TURN IT OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. ALSO THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING ALERTS WHEN I PASS UNDERNEATH A LARGE METAL FREEWAY SIGNAGE.
IT APPEARS THAT WHEN THE TURBOCHARGER IS ENGAGED, COOLANT LEAVING THE TURBOCHARGER IS SPRAYING FROM WHERE A PRESUMABLY NOW MISSING CLAMP WOULD OTHERWISE FORM A TIGHT FIT AROUND THE TUBING, WHICH IS NORMALLY HOUSED BENEATH HEAT SHIELDING. THE HEAT SHIELDING HAS BEEN DISPLACED BY THE HIGH PRESSURE PRODUCED BY THE HOT LIQUID. THE LIQUID IS SO HOT LEAVING THE TURBOCHARGER THAT AS IT SPRAYS OUT ONTO THE SURROUNDING AREAS IT HAS MELTED THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.
NEEDING TO FIX THE RECALL FOR SAFETY
I WAS DRIVING DOWN RANCHO BLVD IN LAS VEGAS UNDER 15 MPH WINDS ON TUES AND THE SPOILER COVER FLEW OFF/SPOILER
ON SEPTEMBER 3RD, SUNDAY 2019, WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 60 WESTBOUND AT THE SPEED OF AROUND 65 MILES/HOUR. THE ENGINE OF MY CAR STOPPED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, AND WE COULD MOVE THE CAR 20~30 YARDS BEFORE COMPLETE STOP. THE ONTARIO(CALIFORNIA) MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE CENTER TOLD US THE CAUSE OF THE CAR FAILURE WAS A HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMP RELATED PROBLEMS. ON DECEMBER 7, 2019, THE SAME CAR PROBLEM OCCURRED. WE WERE DRIVING AT THE SPEED OF 20 MILES/HOUR ON A ROAD IN THE CITY OF TORRENCE, AND THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE LA SERVICE CENTER SAID THE CAUSE OF FAILURE RELATED TO THE MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEM THAT GOVERNS HYDRAULIC PUMP AND ENGINE, AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED AT THE CENTER, AND THEY HAVE TO CONTACT THE FACTORY. THE 3RD CAR FAILURE OCCURRED ON SATURDAY, 2020.7.12. ON 2020.7.11., ONE DAY BEFORE THE CAR FAILURE, THE CAR FRONT PANEL SHOWED A LIGHT INDICATING AN ENGINE CHECK IS REQUIRED. HOWEVER, THE WARNING SIGNAL FOR ENGINE CHECK DISAPPEARED AND USED VISIT SON'S HOUSE. AFTER VISIT, WE STARTED THE CAR, AND THE ENGINE DID NOT START WITH A SYMPTOM SIMILAR TO. PREVIOUS TWO CASES.
WAS DIVING ON A LOCAL INTERSTATE AT POSTED SPEED LEVEL AND THE FRONT HALF OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SHATTERED WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE/OBVIOUS REASON (NO IMPACT, PRIOR DAMAGE, ROAD CONDITIONS, ETC.). TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT, WEATHER WAS SUNNY (HIGH 80'S), ROAD CONDITIONS NORMAL/GOOD.
I BOUGHT THE MERCEDES GLA 250 IN SEPTEMBER 2018 AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A DAY OR TWO AND GO BACK OFF. THE CHECK ENGINE DID THE SAME THING AS BEFORE AND TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE AND STATED IT WAS A POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION ISSUE. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR CUT OFF AND HAD TO RESTART THE CAR THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER I STOPPED AT ANOTHER LIGHT AND THE CAR STOPPED AND HAD TO RESTART AGAIN. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MERCEDES OF BEDFORD ON JUNE 25 AND THE YOUNG LADY NEVER COMMUNICATED THAT I WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR HAD TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I WENT TO MERCEDES ON JUNE 29TH AND STATED I HAD TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE BUT WAS NOT MADE AWARE PREVIOUSLY ON JUNE 29TH. THE WARRANTY ON ON THE VEHICLE WAS UP ON MARCH 30TH. I LEFT AND DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEEMS THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE IS A COMMON ISSUE PLUS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON FOR SOMETIME NOW. THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT WOULD TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS TO A MONTH FOR THE PART TO COME IN FROM GERMANY. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V627000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF PEMBROKE PINES (954-644-5035, LOCATED AT 14199 PINES BOULEVARD, PEMBROKE PINES, FL 33027) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS RECOMMENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,747. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
CHECK ENGINE APPEARED ON OUR DASH BOARD AT 56,000 MILEAGE AND DIAGNOSED WITH A PROBLEM OF THE AUXILLARY ELECTRICAL OIL PUMP. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE CHECK ENGINE AFTER WE ARE OFF WARRANTY. I CAN ALSO SMELL GAS INSIDE THE CABIN WHEN I TURNED ON THE ENGINE
I WAS DRIVING TO MEET A FRIEND FOR LUNCH. I CAME UP UPON A STOP LIGHT THAT WAS ALREADY RED AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN THE THIRD CAR IN LINE. I CAME TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A STOP. I WAS ABOUT A CAR LENGTH OR MORE BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NEXT THING I KNOW, I HEAR A LOUD BANG AS MY CAR HAD ACCELERATED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THAT CAR, IN TURN, HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM. I WAS VERY CONFUSED. I RECEIVED A TRAFFIC TICKET FOR UNCONTROLLED SPEED. THE POLICEMAN THOUGHT I WAS I WAS CRAZY WHEN I SAID THAT I HAD COME TO A STOP. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE, SO I STILL WENT TO LUNCH WITH MY FRIEND. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER WITH PARKING OR DRIVING THE CAR TO THE RESTAURANT, WHICH WAS ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY. AFTER LUNCH, I THEN NEEDED TO RUN AN ERRAND BEFORE I WENT HOME. I DROVE ABOUT 2 BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE RESTAURANT AND PULLED INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. I THEN SLOWLY PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT BETWEEN TWO OTHER CARS. AS MY CAR HIT THE CURB, IT THEN WENT OVER THE CURB, ONTO THE SIDEWALK AND SLAMMED INTO THE CONCRETE WALL OF ONE OF THE SHOPS. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, VERY SHAKEN, AND RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET. EVERYTHING I FOUND INDICATED IT WAS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (SUA). I TOLD MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND ALSO CALLED MERCEDES BENZ USA. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE MERCEDES COLLISION REPAIR SHOP. MERCEDES DID A RECORDED CONVERSATION AND SAID NOT TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. THEY WERE DEFENSIVE WHEN I MENTION SUA, BUT MY MAT IS VELCROED ON AND IT HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE DAY. AFTER THE SECOND COLLISION, I SAW A MESSAGE ON MY DASH THAT SAID : ?COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS INOPERATIVE". MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I CHECKED AT THE MERCEDES COLLISION CENTER TODAY AND WAS TOLD MERCEDES REMOVED A BLACK RECORDING BOX FROM MY CAR. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK AS OF YET. I HAD FILE COMPLAINT ABOUT INTERMITTENT "COLLISION ASSIST " CONDITION TO THE DEALER (HOUSE OF IMPORT, BUANA PARK, CA), THE SERVICE ADVISER SAID IT IS NORMAL FOR THE COLLISION ASSIST ACTING UP SOME TIME. I BELIEVE THERE ARE SOME SOFTWARE GREMLIN OR SOME OTHER ECU ISSUE NEED TO BE ADDRESS. IT S A SAFETY CONCERN TO KEEP DRIVING THIS CAN W/O ANY SOLUTION, I DID CONTACTED MBZ USA, THEY OFFER NO HELP NOR SOLUTION AT ALL.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 MB GLA250 4MATIC [XXX] AND SUDDENLY 5 WARNING ALERTS POPPED ON THE DISPLAY AND THE RESPECTIVE SIGNALS TURNED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE 5 WARNINGS WERE: 4MATIC CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE, INOPERATIVE ABS, PARKING BREAK, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS INOPERATIVE AND CHECK ENGINE. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HEAVY AT THE SAME TIME. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND AT THAT TIME ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE SIGNAL WAS ON. AS SOON AS I ACCELERATED THE CAR AND THE CAR CHANGED TO 2ND, ALL THE ORIGINAL LIGHTS AND WARNING TURNED ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HEAVY. I AM SHARING THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE I'VE READ MULTIPLE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE. THE WARRANTY OF THE CAR EXPIRED IN DECEMBER 2018 (3 MONTHS AGO) AND BACK IN NOVEMBER MY VEHICLE STAYED A COUPLE WEEKS IN GARAGE ISLA VERDE (PUERTO RICO) DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION. I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR WHEN IT'S IN "PARK" POSITION AND WHEN IT'S AT A RED LIGHT OR STOPPED. THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE SLOWLY WHEN IT'S AT A RED LIGHT OR WHEN TURNED ON IN PARK POSITION. I TOOK MY CAR TO MB IN DALLAS (10/18) BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED TO CHECK ON THE ENGINE AND THE CAMSHAFT RECALL. AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR, THE SAME DAY, MY CAR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW IT HAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALER ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST MONTHS TO GET THIS FIXED. IT'S ONLY 45K MILES AND I'VE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER MERCEDES CARS I'VE HAD. IT IS NOW 02/19 AND THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AGAIN. I ASK MERCEDES TO SERIOUSLY CHECK ON THIS PROBLEM IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE AT A RED LIGHT THEN SUDDENLY FEEL THE CAR ACCELERATE.
I STARTED THE CAR AND I GOT A MESSAGE STATING THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG MALFUNCTIONED. THERE IS A SHORT. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS ON THIS MODEL FOR THE AIR BAG, MINE IS NOT INCLUDED. THE AIR BAG HAS SHORTED OUT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

I HAVE PURCHASED FIVE MB SINCE 2002 WITH NO ISSUE UNTIL THIS MODEL GLA 250 2015 VEHICLE PURCHASED USED FROM DEALER IN 2016.

TAKATA RECALL. I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY CAR IN MARCH OF 2017 WHERE DRIVER AND PASSANGER AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. DRIVER'S FRONT TOOTH WAS KNOCKED OUT AND LEFT SIDE DAMAGED. PASSANGER SIDE AIRBAGS SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT NOT SURE ABOUT REST. I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAGS DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BUT THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS AND WITH MY INSURANCE AND TITLE HOLDER (CAR LOAN). THE DRIVER HAD SKIN LACERATIONS FROM AIRBAG AND I DN'T KNOW WHAT WENT OFF WHERE AND HAVE MEMORY LOSS SO THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD BE BETTER ABLE TO ASESS.

I WAS DRIVING AT 45MPH DURING DAY TIME, IN NORMAL SLOW-TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ON A CALIFORNIA FREEWAY, WHEN MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 66F, I WAS NOT DRIVING UNDER A BRIDGE AND I DIDN'T HEAR ANY NOISE OF IMPACT GENERATED BY A FOREIGN OBJECT. AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION I WAS PASSING A TRUCK AND BY THE SOUND OF IT, I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT THAT ONE OF THE TRUCK'S TIRES EXPLODED. INSTEAD I LOOKED UP AND MY ENTIRE PANORAMIC SUNROOF WAS IN PIECES. LUCKILY THE SUNSHADE LINING WAS CLOSED AND IT PROTECTED MY FACE FROM BEING EXPOSED TO THE PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS.
DRIVING AT APPROX. 30MPH AND SUDDENLY THE ENTIRE DASH LIT UP, ALL RED AND YELLOW SYMBOLS ALONG WITH A MSG IN THE DISPLAY TO THE EFFECT OF COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM INOPERATIVE, STOP IMMEDIATELY. THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE EXACT MSG. AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR DECELERATED TO A STOP ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. OBVIOUSLY I DID NOT NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. IT FELT LIKE THE DECELERATION OF THE ENGINE BEING OFF BUT THE CAR STILL IN GEAR WITH THAT STOPPING THE CAR. DID NOT USE BRAKES TO STOP CAR. THIS WAS VERY SUDDEN. THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AFTER STOPPING BECAUSE THE TACH WAS AT ZERO. THE DASH STAYED LIT AND THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE GEAR ON THE INDICATOR. I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO PUT IT IN PARK AND THEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PRESSED TO START THE ENGINE. IT RESTARTED EXCEPT NOW ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS LIT. I DROVE TO THE DEALER. HAD THIS HAPPENED A FEW MOMENTS EARLIER ON THE FREEWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. CAR IS NOW AT THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. THIS HAPPENED ON A 3 LANE EACH WAY LOCAL ROAD. WAITING FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT STILL VERY DANGEROUS IN MY OPINION.

BACK DOOR WAS AJAR AND THERE WAS NO WARNING DISPLAY TO STATE THE DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED COMPLETELY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE WARNING DID NOT DISPLAY UNTIL I WAS DRIVING. SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WITH SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR
THE DOOR OPEN WARNING SIGN ON THE DASH DID NOT COME ON UNTIL AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 FEET. A BACKSEAT PASSENGER FELL OUT OF THE CAR AS IT STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE DRIVER ASSUMED THE BACK DOOR WAS CLOSED SECURELY WHEN HE STARTED FORWARD BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT.
I HAD TWO MVA ACCIDENTS (FEBRUARY 1 AND MARCH 16, 2016) IN THIS VEHICLE WITHIN~ 3 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. THE ACCIDENTS OCCURRED WHEN I SLOWED DOWN THIS VEHICLE UNDER 10-15MPH. UPON PURCHASE, I NOTICED UNLIKE OTHER CARS I HAVE OWNED, AT A STOP THIS MBGLA 250 VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD CUT OFF COMPLETELY AND START BACK WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THIS WAS NORMAL. HOWEVER, I NOTICED WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK FROM PARK PLACE BODYWERKS IN MARCH, 2016, (AFTER ~ 5 WEEK REPAIR PERIOD FROM THE FIRST ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED IN FEBRUARY 2016) THE ENGINE GEARS WOULD JUMP FROM 1ST TO 4TH AFTER SLOWING DOWN ON THE BRAKE FOLLOWED BY STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS JUMPING BETWEEN GEARS, I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THIS. THE CURRENT CAR ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON MARCH 16, 2016, WITHIN 1 WEEK POST REPAIR FROM PARK PLACE BODYWERKS, AFTER I STOPPED AT A STOPPED LIGHT I HIT THE LIGHT POLE, RESULTING IN FRONT END DAMAGE AND NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. DURING THIS CONTINUOUS ADDITIONAL 3 MONTH REPAIR PERIOD, I WAS NOTIFIED IN MAY, 2016 BY MY GEICO ADJUSTER THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD THE WRONG FLUID IN IT AND THE CLAIM WOULD BE ESCALATED. IN THE DAYS THAT FOLLOW, I WAS CONTACTED BY A PARK PLACE BODYWERKS AGENT AND ASKED "DID YOU CHANGE THE FLUIDS IN THE TRANSMISSION.." I WAS EXTREMELY OFFENDED AND INFORMED HIM "I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO OPEN THE HOOD..." AS OF TODAY, 6/13/16, GEICO HAS PAID PARK PLACE BODYWERKS ON BEHALF OF MY POLICY $28,831.30 FOR A VEHICLE I HAVE ONLY OWNED SINCE NOVEMBER 2015, DRIVEN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS, BOUGHT CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FROM PARK PLACE BODYWERKS WITH LESS THAN 8000 MILES, CONTAINED THE WRONG TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM THE DEALERSHIP, HAD TWO LOW SPEED ACCIDENTS EACH WITH NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A HOSPITALIZATION FOR THE OWNER AND NEVER HAD A DRIVING HISTORY LIKE THIS OF MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS.

TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY ENGAGE IN REVERSE: SO FAR I HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED THIS (TWICE) DURING COLD-STARTS. STARTED THE ENGINE, SHIFT CAR IN TO REVERSE GEAR, DISENGAGE PARKING BREAK. IN NORMAL SITUATION, THE CAR WOULD REVERSE SLOWLY WITHOUT APPLYING THROTTLE. IN THE TWO TIMES I EXPERINCED THE PROBLEM, THE CAR WOULD STILL BE IDLE, EVEN AFTER GENTLY APPLYING THROTTLE. AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS OR SO, THE CAR WOULD VIOLENTLY JERK AND THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGED IN REVERSE. THE LOCAL MB SERVICE CENTER WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. I PURCHASED A NEW GLA250 IN AUGUST 2015. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR HAD A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW RESULTING IN A SAFETY ISSUE. DEPENDING ON THE POSITION OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT THE LEFT SIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR CANNOT BE ADJUSTED TO ELIMINATE THE LARGE BLIND SPOT. TALLER DRIVERS WHO REQUIRE THAT THE SEAT BE POSITIONED FURTHER BACK CANNOT ADJUST THE LEFT SIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO ELIMINATE THE BLIND SPOT. I HAVE CONTACTED MBUSA AND THEY WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW OR SAFETY ISSUE. THE MBUSA REPRESENTATIVE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE KNOWLEDGEABLE OF MIRROR OPERATION OR DESIGN. SHE TOLD ME THAT NOT ALL PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ELIMINATE THE BLIND SPOT ON ALL CARS. THE SAFETY ISSUE RESULTING FROM THE INABILITY TO ELIMINATE THE BLIND SPOT IS EXASPERATED BY THE LARGE 'B' PILLAR WHICH GREATLY RESTRICTS PERIPHERAL VISION. MY THEORY, AND IT IS JUST A THEORY, IS THAT MERCEDES BENZ DESIGNED THE GLA (AND ALSO THE CLA) TO EUROPEAN MARKET MIRROR STANDARDS, ANTICIPATING THAT THE USA WOULD COME IN LINE BEFORE THE GLA WAS SOLD IN THE USA MARKET. IN EUROPE, CONVEX MIRRORS ARE ALLOWED FOR BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND FOR THE MOST PART ONLY CONVEX MIRRORS ARE USED.. THE NHTSA HAS BEEN CONSIDERING, BUT WITHHOLDING APPROVAL OF CONVEX LEFT SIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 5 YEARS. GENERAL MOTORS AND MERCEDES BENZ HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY PETITIONER'S FOR THE APPROVAL. MERCEDES BENZ ANTICIPATING THE APPROVAL, DESIGNED THE GLA FOR CONVEX OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS. SINCE CONVEX LEFT SIDE MIRRORS WERE NOT APPROVED IN THE USA, MERCEDES BENZ INSTALLED A PLANAR MIRROR IN THE SAME LEFT SIDE MIRROR ENCLOSURE AND FRAME FOR USA MARKET CARS. THE PLANAR HAS A REDUCED FIELD OF VIEW AND RSULTS IN THE BLIND SPOT SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE HAD MAY CLOSE CALLS ON MULTIILANE HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS.
THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I AM CONSTANTLY FEELING THE SLIGHT TOUCH OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE CARS AND SUV'S IN THE PAST AND I CANNOT EVERY RECALL TOUCHING THE BRAKE WHEN GASSING. I AM VERY CONSCIOUS OF THE PROXIMITY OF THE 2 PEDALS AND TRY TO NOT TOUCH THE BRAKE. IT STILL HAPPENS FROM TIME TO TIME.
THE DOOR HANDLES BECOME IN STUCK POSITION AND DOES NOT CLOSE FULLY AND DOES NOT LATCH TO A LOCKED POSITION. ALSO AFTER REMOVING THE DRIVER SIDE CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 STICKER INTERACTS WITH THE WINDOW CLOSING MECHANISM.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL BANGING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL IN MID-TURN CAUSING THE CONTACT TO GO OVER THE CURB. FOLLOWING THE FAILURE, THE TIRE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE FRACTURED AND ROLLED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CONTACT IMPACTING THE CURB; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER THE CURB BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND AN UNKNOWN COMPONENT FRACTURED. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT WITH THE CAR. I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW AND WHEN DRIVING IT I DETECTED A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WITH THE POSITIONS OF THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP ARE TOO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOUR ARE WEARING MEN'S TENNIS SHOES THEIR IS A HAZARD OF TOUCHING BOTH THE BRAKE AND GAS WHEN YOU WANT TO APPLY THE BRAKE YOU ALSO APPLY THE GAS. SIMPLY BECAUSE THE SHOES ARE TOO WIDE. THE DIMENSIONS ARE: THE BRAKE PEDAL IS 5" X 3" AND THE GAS PEDAL IS 2" WIDE AND 6" LONG. THE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE TWO PEDALS IS 2 INCHES. THE GAS PEDAL IS 1 INCH FROM THE CENTER WALL ON THE RIGHT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS 10 INCHES FROM THE LEFT WALL. I DON'T IF THESE TOLERANCES ARE ACCEPTABLE ONLY DOT WOULD KNOW.
