After being reprogrammed at the dealer my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport started to exhibit a shudder, surge condition. Finally on March 2021 while driving on a highway the CVT started to slip and the vehicle started to exhibit a lack of acceleration untill it came to a stop in the middle lane almost causing an accident. The vehicle was scanned and codes P084A, P0776 and P0843 were present. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on a tow truck and scanned again and the same codes were present. Now the dealer is telling me that I need a new CVT transmission and that warranty was denied by Mitsubishi. It is to their knowledge that these CVT transmissions are defective and they are trying to fix them with a simple CVT ECU reprogramming and oil change as per the TSB-20-23-001, also charging the owner for the oil change. It is about time that the US Government make Mitsubishi Motors issue a mandatory recall since this is a dangerous condition that can cause a major accident on US highways. It is also time for a Class Action Suit against Mitsubishi Motors for selling a defective product and refusing to repair the vehicles.

My transmission doesn't go into gear right away and doesn't drive right in automatic. If I switch it to manual and only go up to 5th gear it shifts fine. There was a transmission recall for same year make and model as mine. Those recalls happened around 80,000 miles. I have 84,000. I was previously told I needed either a fuel tank or fuel injectors, never got it diagnosed. My gas gauge reads full all the time even when I dont have gas.

ONE OF THE RECALLS WAS FOR THE DOOR LOCKS NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCKING ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHED 5MILES PER HOUR. THE OTHER RECALL WAS FOR A FAILURE IN THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM THAT WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO MOVE EVEN WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. I DISCOVERED THESE RECALLS BY GOING TO THE AUTOZONE WEBSITE. TODAY THE LAMP ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAS ACCUMULATED RUST AND IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL WITH THE TURN SIGNAL WHICH IS DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING AND WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE LANES.UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THE DEALER REFUSED RESPONSIBILITY CLAIMING THE VEHICLE HAS SURPASSED THE MILEAGE THRESHOLD. ONLY ADVISE WAS TO BUY NEW LAMPS WHICH COST AROUND $400 WHEREAS THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THE NEW LIGHTS WON'T ABSORB MOISTURE AND THE CYCLE REPEATS. IT'S IN THIS RESPECT THAT THESE ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED WHAT CAUSES THE MOISTURE IN THE LAMPS AND MITSUBISHI SHOULD REPLACE THE LIGHTS WITHOUT CHARGES TO THE CONSUMER BECAUSE IT'S RESPONSIBLE FOR SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS THAT WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE CONSUMER. TOWED TO HEALEY BRS MITSUBISHI BEACON NY AND 4 DAYS LATER THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR THE SUDDEN FAILURE BUT DID CONFIRM THAT IT WAS SUDDEN AND NOT DUE TO ANY LACK OF MAINTENANCE ON MY PART. THE CAR IS 3 YEARS OLD WITH SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE, ON A DARK HIGHWAY ON CHRISTMAS EVE. I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS SAFE BUT STILL WANT AN EXPLANATION. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO USED TO WORK FOR MITSUBISHI INFORMED ME THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THIRD PISTON ON THESE ENGINES BUT THE MECHANIC IN BEACON WOULD NOT CONFIRM EITHER WAY.

I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED FEELING LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING. I PULLED OVER CHECKED ALL THE FLUIDS AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I WAS MILES FROM THE NEAREST TOWN. SO I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STARTED REVVING UP. I TURNED THE HAZARD ON AND PULLED OFF ONTO THE SIDE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN AND THE ENGINE REVED AGAIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WENT OFF. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND WAS ABLE TO BACK UP TO GET FURTHER OVER OFF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE BUT THE LIGHT REMAINED OFF. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A SAFE LOCATION. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER SHIP AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE CVT AND IT WAS INTERNAL. I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE TO WHOLE UNIT REPLACED. THEY QUOTED ME AROUND 7,000. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW CALLED TO GET MORE INFO AND THEY QUOTED HIM AROUND 4,000. THERE ARE 108,000 MILES ON MY 2015. SO IT'S OVER WARRANTY AND I FELT LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO RIP ME OFF. I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR RECALLS FOR THIS TYPE OF THING HAPPENING. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND OTHERS WITH THIS HAPPENING OUT OF NOWHERE.

I RESEARCHED THAT IT HAD A RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION HOSE ASSEMBLY BUT MITSUBISHI NO LONGER LISTS THE RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT MY VEHICLE GETS REPAIRED AS THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF THE VEHICLE FALLS IN THE TIME WHEN THIS ISSUE WAS NOT DETECTED DURING ASSEMBLY.

THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT ARM AS THE WINDOW WAS OPEN AND HER ARM WAS CUT BY THE GUARDRAIL. THE CONTACT ALSO SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED BACK AND HEAD INJURIES AS HIS HEAD STRUCK THE DASHBOARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT AND THEN TOWED TO AN AUTO GARAGE BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. WHILE AT THE AUTO GARAGE, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE INSPECTED DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER REPAIR FACILITY TO HAVE THE BLOOD CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE.
