My daughter was driving on the NJ Turnpike, on the Highway for a few minutes when she heard a loud explosion. Nothing hit the Vehicle prior the explosion. A vehicle behind her saw the pieces of Sunroof blew out and notified her. She took the X3 to BMW and got a nice bill instead.
Heard a loud boom after just entering the highway and the front sunroof on my 2017 BMW x3 just exploded. Fortunately the cover was closed, most of the glass blew out upon the explosion. Driving around the speed limit at the time of the explosion. Took it the dealer and got a big bill instead.
Car has broken down five times, each after having been driven several hours. Car suddenly looses power and dies. Will not restart- requires tow. All repair attempts have been made at BMW dealers. We have been placed in dangerous situations, including once with my six year old grandson in a highway construction zone with no shoulder. Please see attached correspondence with manufacturer. The contact owns a 2017 BMW X3. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, there was a loud abnormal sound coming from the roof of the vehicle. Moments later, the driver discovered that the glass sunroof had shattered. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact indicated that no object had struck the sunroof to cause the failure. The local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,143.
BMW IS USING INFERIOR PARTS AND METAL. I RECENTLY HAD ENGINE WORK COMPLETED BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION HEAT EXCHANGE IS FAULTY AND STAYS OPEN WHICH OVERHEATS THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT OTTO'S BMW TOLD ME THAT IF THE HEAT EXCHANGE IS OPEN IT CAN SEIZE THE ENGINE. TO REPAIR THIS IT COST $1802.74 AND THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A BMW. I HAD HAD BMWS IN THE PAST AND NO ENGINE WAS EVER A PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. THEY SHOULD BE REPRIMANDED FOR THESE LATENT DEFECTS. I WAS RIDING AND THE LIGHT FOR THE ENGINE WENT ON AND IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO OTTO'S BMW. THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED BUT THIS COSTLY REPAIR SHOULD BE PAID BY BMW-USA. THESE CARS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HIGH END VEHICLE THAT CAN LAST FOR OVER 175K MILES. NOT THIS VEHICLE. IT IS PROBLEMATIC AND THERE ARE TWO CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS OUT THERE REGARDING THIS EXACT PROBLEMS. BMW MUST BE FINED AND MAKE GOOD ON THESE PROBLEMS. ANYTHING LESS WE THE CONSUMER GETS COMPROMISED.
ALTERNATOR OVERCHARGING PRODUCING 16V AND CAUSING SYSTEM TO GO TO FAIL SAFE MODE. IT WILL SHUT OFF VEHICLE AND SWITCH IT IN PARK MODE. WHILE DRIVING ANY MODE THEN ECO AND AUTO SHUTOFF TURNED OFF. VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF, SOMETIME WHEN BREAK RELEASED IT WILL START AND YOU CAN CONTINUE DRIVING, OTHER TIMES WILL NOT START AND WILL DISENGAGE TRANSMISSION AND SWITCH TO PARK MODE. WITH WARNING THAT "TRANSMISSION IS MALFUNCTIONING " "DO NOT TURN OFF ENGINE OR CONTINUED DRIVING MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE. CONSULT NEAREST SERVICE CENTER
THE SUNROOF WATER DRAINS BACK UP AND CAUSES WATER TO POOL IN THE CARGO AREA WHERE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS ARE STORED (WHEEL WELL LIKE AREA) WHICH CAUSES AN ALARM TO GO OFF AND HATCHBACK MALFUNCTIONS. MY PREVIOUS X3 HAD HATCHBACK ISSUES TOO. BMW STATES THE FRAME THAT SUN ROOF SITS IN IS CRACKED BUT NOT CAUSED BY USER BEHAVIOR.
WHEN I AM COMING TO A STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE REVS UP AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. I NEED TO APPLY THE BRAKES VERY HARD TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR OR PERSON IN A CRESS WALK. EVEN WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES HARD, THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT BMW DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY TEST DRIVE THE CAR, BUT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS SPORADIC AND MAY ONLY OCCUR ONCE A MONTH, IT DOES NOT DO IT WHEN THEY TEST DRIVE THE CAR.

THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE WITH ONLY THE LICENSE PLATE BEING TORN OFF. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET BEEN CALLED. THE OTHER PERSON FILED A CLAIM WITH THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,420.
POWER LIFT GATE OPENED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING FORWARD. CONTENTS OF CARGO AREA FELL OUT.
I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR ACCELERATED. I SIDESWIPED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND PROCEED TO CROSS A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. I TRIED TO STOP BUT KEPT GOING , JUMPED A CURB GOT ON A GRASSY AREA DID A 360 TO A ROAD JUMPED BACK ON THE GRASS AND CAME TO REST IN SOME BUSHES AND WIRE FENCE. DAMAGE TO DRIVERS SIDE FRONT END. LEFT TURN SIGNAL MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET AND HIGHWAY- WARNING MESSAGES OF MALFUNCTIONING OF TURN SIGNAL APPEARS ON PANEL. THIS ERROR OCCURRED TUESDAY AUGUST 20TH 2019, WILL BE TAKING CAR FOR REPAIR THIS WEEKEND.
TWICE ON RAINY DAYS, WHEN STOPPING ON A HILL AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT HOLD. LUCKILY THE LIGHT CHANGED AND I DID NOT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I BROUGHT IT IN WITH ONCE,BUT NOTHING WAS "WRONG". I AM GOING TO TRY AGAIN THIS WEEK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR IN THE RAIN.

THE CAR IN MOTION INITIALLY RESPONDS AND 3/4 OF THE WAY TO THE LIGHT (ALMOST AT INTERSECTION BRAKES FAIL, NO BRAKES AND THE CAR MAKES A CLICKING NOISE' SIMILAR TO WHEN A BATTERY IS ALMOST DEAD, BUT THE CAR IS ON, ELECTRICAL AND EVERYTHING SEEMS OK EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKES. THE RAMP IS AT AN INCLINE (UPHILL A LITTLE) SO THE CAR STOPS. THE CAR IS PARTIALLY IN THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY NO CAR IN FRONT OR CARS CROSSING THE INTERSECTION. THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AND WE CONTINUE ANOTHER MILE TO OUR FINAL DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS.

THE WINDSHIELD OF THIS VEHICLE SEEMS TO REPRESENT A SAFETY RISK. LAST WEEK, WE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO A SMALL CRACK FROM SMALL ROCK ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALER ON MONDAY AFTERNOON. ON WEDNESDAY AT ABOUT 11:00 AM, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AGAIN. I HAD TO TAKE TO THE DEALER AGAIN. I AM WONDERING ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS WINDSHIELD, WAS THERE QUALITY TEST PERFORMED ?
THIS COMPLAINT IS A FOLLOW-UP TO EARLIER COMPLAINT TO NHTSA 11129293. AS NOTED, I EXPERIENCED 3 REVVING INCIDENTS IN WHICH THE ENGINE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY TO OVER 7,000 RPM AND WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. FORTUNATE, THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON EACH OCCASION AND DID NOT SURGE AHEAD WHILE I PRESSED FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. THE REVVING STOPPED ON ITS OWN AFTER A SHORT TIME. IN EACH INSTANCE I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO A BMW DEALERSHIP--THE FIRST TIME IN SARASOTA, FL AND THEN TWICE IN ROCKVILLE, MD--AND BMW MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY CAUSE OR FLAW. FOLLOWING THE THIRD EVENT, BMW OF NORTH AMERICA DESPATCHED AN ENGINEER TO ROCKVILLE FOR A COMPLETE EXAM ON OCTOBER 4, 2018. THE ENGINEER REPORTED THE VEHICLE TO BE IN PERFECT RUNNING CONDITION IN EVERY RESPECT. BASED ON THIS REPORT, BMW NA REFUSED MY REQUEST TO TERMINATE MY LEASE EARLY, WITHOUT PENALTY. IT ALSO DISMISSED MY PERSONAL VIEW THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE A SOFTWARE GLITCH THAT THE ENGINEER OR BMW MECHANICS HAD BEEN UNABLE TO UNCOVER OR DUPLICATE. AS MY WIFE AND I WERE UNWILLING TO DRIVE A CAR ON PUBLIC ROADS THAT WE CONSIDERED TO HAVE A LIFE-THREATENING DEFECT, WE SUBMITTED TO BMW'S DEMAND THAT WE PAY OFF IN A LUMP SUM THE REMAINING TWO YEARS OF OUR LEASE THROUGH SEPTEMBER OF 2020, AMOUNTING TO OVER $17,000. BMW'S POLICY OF REFUSING TO ACCEPT RESPOSIBILITY FOR REVVING PROBLEMS UNDOUBTEDLY FORCES SOME DRIVERS TO KEEP DRIVING POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS VEHICLES, RISKING PUBLIC SAFETY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 BMW X3. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH UPHILL, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PARK AVE BMW (530 HUYLER STREET, SOUTH HACKENSACK, NJ 07606) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE UNDER THE REAR SEAT GOT WET AND SHORTED OUT. AS A RESULT, FUEL WAS NOT BEING DELIVERED TO THE ENGINE. THE NIGHT BEFORE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A COOLER IN THE REAR SEAT THAT TILTED AND SPILLED WATER AND ICE ONTO THE REAR SEAT. THE SEAT WAS IMMEDIATELY CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,441.
I LEASED A 2017 BMW X3 WITH 3370 MILES ON IT SO ALMOST BRAND NEW. I HAVE A 7.6 MILE COMMUTE FROM WORK TO HOME. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AROUND 230PM PST SOUTH ON THE 405 (HIGHWAY) IN LOS ANGELES. I PULL UP TO MY HOUSE AND PARK THE VEHICLE ON MY CITY STREET. I PARK TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND LOCK THE DOORS AND WALK INTO MY HOUSE. WITHIN 15 MINUTES, MY NEIGHBOR KNOCKS ON MY DOOR AND INFORMS ME THAT MY CAR IS ON FIRE. WHEN I LOOK OUTSIDE AT MY VEHICLE, IN BETWEEN THE HOOD OF MY CAR AND FRONT WINDSHIELD ARE SPITTING FLAMES OUT ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. IT THEN PROCEEDED TO BURN FAST AND HOT AND THERE WERE 30 FOOT FLAMES THAT HAD RUINED OUR FENCE AS WELL AS SINGED OUR NEIGHBORS TREE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND FINALLY TOOK OUT THE FLAME BUT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY RUINED. THE TOW TRUCK SHOWED UP LATER BUT HE REFUSED TO TOW THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE SAW SMOKE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD CAUGHT BACK ON FIRE ON THE PASSENGER WINDOW SIDE. AIRBAGS HAD ALSO STARTED BLOWING UP WHEN THE SECOND FIRE CAUGHT. I HAD PUT MY HEAD INTO THE WINDOW WHEN THE FIRE WAS OUT TO RETRIEVE ANYTHING THAT I COULD BUT WITHIN 10 SECONDS OF PULLING MY HEAD OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE ANOTHER AIRBAG WENT OFF AND ALMOST TOOK OFF MY HEAD. THERE WAS A DUAL INVESTIGATION WITH BMW AND MY INSURANCE SAFECO. THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING. INITIAL REPORT SAID THE DEFECT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL LINE. IF THIS CAR WAS IN A GARAGE OR ANY CLOSER TO OUR HOUSE EVERYTHING WOULD HAVE GONE UP IN FLAMES. OUR STORY WAS ON THE NEWS AS WELL. THERE WAS NO KNOWN RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AS I HAVE CHECKED EVERYWHERE. THREE INCIDENTS OF UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION OF ENGINE, TWO WHILE PARKING ON CITY STREETS (APRIL 30 AND SEPT 12) AND ONE WHEN STOPPING AT RED LIGHT ON CITY STREET (AUG 1). CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND STARTED REVVING UNEXPECTEDLY AND IMMEDIATELY WENT TO OVER 7,000 RPM. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND MAINTAINED BRAKE. REVVING STOPPED AND RETURNED TO NORMAL IDLING WHEN I LIFTED FOOT FROM BRAKE. CAR WAS TAKEN TO BMW SERVICE FOR ONE PARKING INCIDENT AND THE INCIDENT WHILE STOPPING AT RED LIGHT. BMW MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE. FOR LATEST INCIDENT HAVE CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND THEY WILL SEND AN ENGINEER FROM HEADQUARTERS TO CHECK VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, NO COLLISION OR ACCIDENT OCCURRED. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE SOME DRIVERS WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM DEALING WITH SUDDEN UNCONTROLLED REVVING AND INDEED I AM CONCERNED ABOUT A REPETITION, ESPECIALLY IN CITY OR HIGHWAY TRAFFIC.
CAUSING THE CAR TO JUMP FORWARD. BY PUTTING CAR IN NEUTRAL AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE ON A GRADE, WHEN I HAD COMPLETED, I NOTICED THE THE RPM GAGE WAS AT 4000 RPM WITH BRAKE ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME. THREE TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED AS I SLOWED DOWN AND IT LURCHED FORWARD STRIKING OBSTICALLS. WHEN BRAKING IT POSSIBLE TO ENGAGE THE GAS PEDAL

TAKATA RECALL - RECEIVED NOTICE FROM CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT STATING THE TAKATA AIR BAGS ARE DEFECTIVE IN MY BMW. HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AS OF YET. WOULD LIKE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.
TAKATA RECALL RECEIVED NOTICE OF RECALL 1ST WEEK OF JULY, 2017. CONTACTED PERILLO BMW, 1035 N CLARK ST, CHICAGO, IL 60610, ON JULY 8, 2017. WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS NOT IN STOCK, AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD CALL BACK WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER INFORMATION FROM PERILLO BMW, NOW MORE THAN THREE WEEKS LATER. THEY HAVE NOT HONORED THE RECALL.
AUGUST 19, 2017 I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AT A VERY LOW SPEED AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO PARK. THE CAR AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR WENT THROUGH MY NEIGHBORS FENCES AND IT FINALLY STOPPED BETWEEN TWO GARAGES BEHIND MY PROPERTY ON THE NEXT STREET. I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOORS OR WINDOWS FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN.
RECEIVED NOTICE FROM CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT STATING THE TAKATA AIR BAGS ARE DEFECTIVE IN MY BMW. HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AS OF YET. WOULD LIKE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.
ENGINE SEIZED AT 65MPH HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING COMMUTE TO WORK ON BUSY BOSTON HIGHWAY. NARROWLY AVOIDED SEVERAL COLLISIONS AS VEHICLE COASTED TO STOP. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM A BMW DEALER THREE WEEKS AGO AND HAS LESS THAN 2,000 MILES ON IT. DEALER ADVISES AN "OVERSIZED BEARING WAS FOUND IN THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT AND SEIZE". ENGINE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. TRANSMISSION, TRANSFER CASE, ELECTRONICS AND COOLING SYSTEM DAMAGE ARE SUSPECTED BY THE DEALER TECH AND WILL REQUIRE MONITORING.
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS AT CENTER. THE VEHICLE WILL DRIFT EITHER TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT, BUT IT WILL NOT GO STRAIGHT WITHOUT CONSTANT CORRECTIONS. IN SHORT, THE STEERING SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE A CENTER. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER'S CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE ISSUE. THEY UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO REPAIR IT WITH WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND EPS RECALIBRATION. THEN THEY SAID THAT THEY TEST DROVE A SIMILAR VEHICLE AND IT EXHIBITS THE SAME STEERING ISSUE AND THUS THEY CALLED IT "A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ELECTRIC STEERING". I HAVE CONTACTED BMW NA ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE DEALER'S STATEMENT THAT THIS STEERING ISSUE IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC. BMW NA HAS NOT PROVIDED ANY TECHNICAL GUIDANCE OR OPINION AND THEY REDIRECT ME BACK TO THE DEALER. THEIR OVERALL VERDICT IS THAT IF MORE THAN ONE VEHICLES EXHIBIT THE ISSUE, THEN IT IS NORMAL, AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE IF X3 MODELS WITH ELECTRIC STEERING HAVE THIS STEERING ISSUE AND POSSIBLY ASK BMW TO RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE.
THE REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILS TO ENGAGE OFTEN WHEN BACKING UP. IT IS ALWAYS SLOW TO TURN ON, HOWEVER THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. MORE CONCERNING IS THAT THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT IT AND DISMISSED IT SAYING THAT THE SYSTEM GETS AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGED WHEN THE CAMERA IS DIRTY AND THAT HE KNOWS "BECAUSE HE HEARS THIS COMPLAINT ALL THE TIME"
AFTER THE MAY 2016 DELIVERY OF OUR X3, I REPORTED A SOFTWARE DEFECT, FAILURE TO DISPLAY CORRECT DAY/TIME. THE DEFECT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPLICATED AND DOCUMENTED BY THE BMW SERVICE DEPT. WE HAVE YET TO RECEIVE FORMAL TECHNICAL VERIFICATION THAT THIS SOFTWARE DEFECT WILL NOT NEGATIVELY AFFECT VEHICLE SAFETY OR OPERATION. MY NUMEROUS INQUIRIES OVER THE LAST TEN [10] MONTHS WITH BMW'S CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND SERVICES AND EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER CARE, WESTWOOD, NJ HAVE ONLY RESULTED IN CONTINUED MISDIRECTION AND STONEWALLING. AFTER TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THIS SOFTWARE ISSUE BMW HAS NOT DEMONSTRATED ANY EFFORT TO CORRECT IT. I WAS STOPPING MY CAR AT A RED SIGNAL BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE. I APPLIED BREAKS AND VEHICLE REACHED TO COMPLETE STOP. IMMEDIATELY, ENGINE PICKED UP AND STARTED MOVING FORWARD EVEN THOUGH BREAKS ARE COMPLETELY PRESSED. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE CAR REAR ENDING. SO, I RELEASED AND RE-APPLIED BREAKS. VEHICLE REACHED COMPLETE STOP AND AGAIN STARTED ACCELERATING FORWARD. I REPEATED THE PROCESS BUT THE THIRD TIME IT HIT THE CAR INFRONT OF ME. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH : AUTO START/STOP ENGINE (WHICH STOPS THE ENGINE WHEN THE CAR IS AT COMPLETE REST). AUTO HOLD (WHICH ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO TAKE THE FOOT OFF OF THE BREAK) BOTH THE FUNCTIONALITY ARE TURNED ON WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, BUT I DIDNT TAKE OFF MY FOOT FROM THE BREAK PEDAL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2017 BMW X3. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEED, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO EXPERIENCE EXTREME DIFFICULTY IN STEERING. DURING MY NORMAL CITY DRIVING ROUTE THE BRAKES STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL SCREECHING NOISE. I PULLED OVER WITHIN 1 CITY BLOCK OF HEARING THE NOISE AND MY REAR DISC BRAKE ROTOR HAD A LARGE GROOVE WORN INTO IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS A ROCK THAT GOT STUCK BETWEEN THE PAD AND THE ROTOR AND THEY WOULD REPAIR THE CAR FOR FREE, WHICH INCLUDED ORDERING PARTS. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & THE CLERK THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE SAID THAT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN, SO THEY JUST REPAIR IT FOR FREE. I ASKED IF IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN, THEY ASSURED ME IT WASN'T BUT IT MAKES ME QUESTION HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS AND WHAT IS THE ACCIDENT RATE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE. I'VE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE GET A ROCK LODGED BETWEEN THE ROTOR AND PAD. THE SPECS FOR THE SPACE BETWEEN THE TWO ARE TYPICALLY MICROMETERS. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW LESS THAN ONE WEEK AGO.
I CHECKED ONLINE FROM NHTSA THAT MY CAR HAS A RECALL WHICH IS IN INCOMPLETE STATUS, WHILE I CALLED BMW THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NO SUCH RECORD FOR A RECALL FOR MY CAR.

The affected vehicles have lower anchor bars for securing child restraint seats that may become damaged when using the European-ISOFIX-type, rigid-style connector, child restraint system.
