Summary

I want to complain about GM's handling of recall N212343881 affecting my vehicle listed above. I have received now 3 written notifications of this recall, the last one directing me to call my local dealership to have the recall work done. When I contacted the dealership they were in no position to tell me: 1.) When they would receive the required parts to complete the recall work 2.) what the notification process would be once they receive the required parts 3.) Ascertain me that they would contact me immediately once they receive the required parts In short, I continue to feel left in limbo well over half a year after the recall first was made public.

Summary

I've been using my BOLT for 4 years without incident and have been charging my car at my home at my home level 2 charger for 18 months without incident. I began the process with GM to either buyback my 2017 BOLT or exchange the batteries as per the recall. However, on Tuesday, my found my car smoking with a strong burning plastic smell as it was charging at my house. I disconnected and now have damage to both my charger and my charging port of my car. I do not feel safe trying to charge this car again and do not even know if its possible in its current state. i contacted Chevy and they referred me to another branch of their company to investigate this incident. They are now asking me to hire and electrician and have the plug inspected, at my expense. I am currently using the same plug to charge my Tesla and there are no problems with this circuit. I would like this car repaired or bought back and it is unusable in its current state. I do not wish to pay for repairs to the charging port when the car is clearly a danger. I want it gone and I do not wish to put more good money into a car that is a hazard.

Summary

The vehicle is under recall for main traction battery defects. There is no planned or expectable date for correction of the defect; parts are not available and cannot be made available in a reasonable amount of time. A GM spokesperson on 9/15/2021 stated to Bloomberg (afterward picked up by most news organizations) that Bolts should be parked at least 50' from other vehicles, and only on the top deck of parking structures, apparently to minimize collateral damage when the Bolt burns. This statement will lead to Bolt drivers being banned from parking facilities, and subjecting the owners to abuse by people who don't want them parked anywhere nearby. GM must expand the recall to simply buy back all Bolts immediately, paying approximately the original amount paid by owners with perhaps some allowance for miles actually driven, and and recover vehicles from all lessees. Based on the spokesperson's statement, the vehicles are too unsafe to be allowed to remain on the road. They must ALL be recovered by GM as quickly as possible, with adequate compensation, and crushed to prevent further sale or use.

GM has been jerking myself, and all Bolt owners all of this year and For myself and other owners of 2017-early 2019 models. They have overlaid Recalls on the 2017-2019 to reset apparent recall start dates. We have been dealing with being under the umbrella of a one battery fire recall or another since November of 2020, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. My Bolt was in a chevy shop for TWO MONTHS June/July 2021 time frame for the first recall because it took them that long to get a single battery module. Now they have issued yet another recall. I am one of over 100,000 owners that are tired of being told, "baby your batteries to 'reduce' the risk of fire". Being told to limit the effective battery range to over 60% of what it is supposed to are capable of is not acceptable. GM is playing 'lawyer' and making it nearly impossible to get a real solution. Do your job, kick GM in the rear. At this point GM just needs to pony up and buyback the whole model run. I'm tired of parking my car in the back 40.

With the existing manufacture recall, I have filed a case with Chevolet regarding the Bolt EV's battery. however, nothing has been done; And as a medical professional with children in the home, it is extremely worrisome to actively monitor the charging phase. I now charge the Bolt during the day time and have to remind myself to move the Bolt out when the charge is complete. And I am incurring a higher electricity rate during this charge cycles. Does your agency have the facility to tell the manufacturer to speed up their repair resolution.

Summary

I stopped for a DC fast charge at an Electrify America station to ensure that my vehicle's battery level would stay over "70 miles of charge" to reduce fire risk (per GM recommendation). The vehicle has been programmed to remain at or below a 90% charge limit. After charging for 25 minutes, I unplugged the CCS1 connector from the Bolt by pressing the connector release button and pulling gently. To my surprise, the connector unlatched and disconnected immediately while charging at roughly 35,000 watts (>80 amps, 400 volts) and both the connector and my car's charging port began emitting a strong sulfur odor. The connector is supposed to have a high-voltage safety interlock that prevents either side from being moved while current is flowing. I have seen this interlock technology on many different chargers (CCS, CHAdeMO, Tesla) and have never seen it fail. After the incident, I inspected and photographed the charging port and charging station connector and found both sides seriously burned, melted and damaged. The connectors suffered oxidation, discoloration, and other metallic contamination/damage. The vehicle's inlet port contacts are blue/orange/black, not silver, and sections of metal appear to be melted away. The charger side connector contacts are discolored and have similar erosive/melting damage. The damage appears to be identical to arc flash plasma erosion. Prior to this incident, I regularly inspected the DC fast charge port and found it to be in good condition with a functioning seal, orange cover flap, clean silver pins and no damage. Before plugging in, I had inspected the charge station connector and could not see anything wrong with it. The charge connector serial number was entirely worn off. At this point, I do not feel comfortable fast charging my Bolt EV out of concern that the inlet port may overheat and catch fire. The inlet port needs to be replaced and the charging station connector needs to be replaced (and the interlock issue resolved).

The check engine light came on in my vehicle and limited the speed at which I could drive resulting in the car dealership is refusing to honor the warranty on my vehicle. The manual and all information from General Motors explicitly states the components which are covered under warranty. There is a NHTSA service bulletin regarding this exact problem (NHTSA 18-NA-064) along with the labor code for doing repairs under warranty. The warranty is for the first 100,000 miles or 8 years (2025), my vehicle currently has 49906 miles. The reason I was given is that software is not usually covered under warranty but there is no documentation stating that is the case. I was told that this vehicle may have this problem just due to operating it and there is no recourse for me other than to pay to have it fixed. If this is true the vehicle is unsafe to be driven in traffic.

Summary

Since the November, 2020 recall of the Chevy Bolt for its battery defects, I have had only limited use of the vehicle and it remains a fire threat whether parked inside a garage or outside. The recommended restrictions of charging and parking by General Motors do nothing to fix the fire threat, and put an undue burden on me without any expectation of a timely repair. GM has acknowledged that they do not currently have repair parts (new battery modules), and due to the volume of units necessary (140,000 recalled vehicles), and the likely pace of production and repairs once they actually begin producing new battery modules, it will take at least 2 years for the process to be completed. Added to the 10 months already passed since the first recall, this means a potential total wait period approaching 3 years. This is wholly unacceptable and a vehicle buyback to make owners whole for their losses is the only acceptable course of action.

I am concerned about the unacceptable fire risk posed by the battery in my 2017 Chevy Bolt and the unrealistic changes Chevy has asked owners to take in order to avoid fire risk while awaiting the remedy. I own a garage, and cannot park my car there without fear of damage to my condo. I also cannot charge the car without wasting my time supervising it. I am experiencing problems sleeping at night, due to the fact that I have a potential fire risk sitting outside of my home. The range of mileage is also greatly reduced while waiting for the recall remedy, which resulted in extra time I must supervise my car while it charges.

Summary

The 1st recall for this problem was Nov 2020. We waited for 7 months for the "permanent fix," during which time we were forced to lose some of our range. During MN winters, this is an especially big problem, since range is already significantly reduced due to cold weather. In late July we learned that 2 more vehicles burst into flames despite having received the permanent fix, so now there is yet another recall with no remedy available. This time we are forced to reduce our range by nearly half, must charge after every use, and must leave our car parked outside. This is a huge problem due to a surge in stolen vehicles in our community. When winter arrives, this huge reduction in range will prevent them from meeting our needs. We invested a lot of money in these 2 Bolt EVs and are angry that GM put our family and home at risk for the nearly 4 years we have owned them, and further that they made us wait 7 months while they tried to develop a cheap software fix for a physical battery defect. We refuse to wait additional untold months to fix this defect, which continues to pose a potentially fatal risk to our family, and also to our home (since our charging stations are inside our garage, and it is impossible to watch them for hours each time we charge them). We requested that GM repurchase our 2 Bolt EVs, but they are giving us nothing but the runaround. Also, we never even received a notice in the mail about the recall for either of our affected Bolt EVs. We are fortunate to have discovered the recall by means other than GM, but it is unconscionable that GM would not notify every vehicle owner about this incredibly serious problem. It's time for GM to repurchase our cars so that we can purchase something that isn't a death risk with minimal driving range.

Summary

I recently took my vehicle to Carr Chevrolet 15005 SW Tualatin Valley Hwy, Beaverton, OR 97006 related to the ongoing Chevy Bolt recall, in particular the portion "Owners who have not visited their dealer to receive the original recall remedy should visit their nearest Chevrolet dealer to obtain this important software update, which includes a diagnostic check on the health of their vehicle’s battery system. After obtaining the software update, customers should still take the interim steps summarized above." I had only had the first of two software patches applied and the latest recall indicates I should indeed acquire the second patch. Despite my having an appointment with the reason noted being this software update, the service department attempted to refuse me service. They tried to convince me this software update was not needed, told me it would take a long time to apply and they'd have to try to fit me in, told me the software did nothing, and told me I should go home and not worry about it. This directly contradicts NHTSA and Chevrolet guidance and potentially puts me, my family, and my neighbors at risk. If this is representative of Chevrolet's response to the Bolt situation, this is very dangerous. At a minimum this dealership poses a danger to Oregon residents.

My 2017 Chevy Bolt has been recalled for the second time due to a defect in the battery. GM attempted to solve the hardware problem with a software fix, with the predictable result that cars are still exploding and burning down people's homes. The lack of transparency from GM is disturbing, considering that the defect puts my life at risk and makes the car unusable for its intended purpose, which is to drive long range during the day and charge overnight. I have called my local chevy dealer who I bought the car from multiple times and left messages, but their service department does not pick up the phone when I call them and do not respond to my messages.

Summary

I have a 2017 Bolt that is affected by the Bolt battery fire recall. I have patiently awaited for a real fix for this issue since November of 2017. I have lived in fear of this car burning up or my house burning up from this vehicle for 8 months. I need this vehicle it is my daily transportation. I paid more than $46,000 for this vehicle (including tax and registration). Now, Chevy has said I can't charge at night, I can't charge in my garage, and I can't use more than 60% (143 miles), they don't know the root cause of the fires, they don't have a fix, and they have not committed to changing our batteries. After all this, this car is unusable to me and I can't trust Chevy to detect the defect and apply a meaningful fix. I have applied for a buyback and was denied in June. I live in MN, where I am unaware of anyone that has had a successful buyback. I can't understand how GM is allowed to have a buyback policy where one state (CA) has hundreds of buybacks where another has none. When this is truly a serious safety problem that they do not know the fix. I need help getting a successful buyback for my vehicle.

Battery. The new guidelines from Chevy and the NHTSA for my battery recall render the car, which took some planning for charging before this happened, a major inconvenience at best. I live in an urban environment in a multi-family dwelling, and it is not possible for me to consistently park my car outdoors away from structures, as no such places exist. Expecting me to monitor my vehicle during charges that go on for 4-5 hours is also close to impossible. Nor am I sure what this 'monitoring' would even entail, as no one can realistically imagine owners are going to sit next to their vehicles and stare at them for multiple hours every week. I already had only a handful of charging options available and now, if I can't charge indoors, even more are taken away. I am proud to support our transition away from ICE cars, and was absolutely willing to endure some transitional issues, but even I were willing to tolerate the narrow range of ability of my vehicle before the battery swap is available (which there is no promised date for) expecting these absurd limits for people who want to use their cars as normal transit is simply discouraging future EV owners, and that is not a situation our climate can afford. I'm sure the NHTSA knows that 40% of greenhouse gases come from transportation, and I sincerely hope your agency does it all it can to not discourage early adopters like me from being a small part of the solution to this problem.

I purchased this car (Chevy Bolt EV) under the assumption that I could simply charge overnight and have the car ready for the next day. Chevy has come out with multiple supposed fixes yet still has fires. I have a newborn at home and can basically no longer charge the car at home since I feel I would be putting my family at risk. Chevy now says we can only use the fraction of the battery charge safely. This is simply unacceptable and I am doubtful Chevy actually knows the root cause of the issue.

The issue with the current recall is that it is impossible for those with long commutes to adhere to the not charging overnight and not going below 70 miles of range. While I do not expect any battery failure I would like to be sure that the vehicle will be replaced by GM if the vehicle were to be damaged by the battery even though I am not following the recommended actions due to needing to use more of the range than is recommended at this time.

Summary

Appreciate that GM is replacing the battery modules. But we waited MONTHS for the first fix, which did not work, and now must wait another 6 months-1 year for replacement battery modules. Meanwhile, the car does not function as advertised -- we cannot charge overnight (as we usually did; we have 3 EVs, so charging time requires some coordination), we cannot deplete the battery (preventing long trips), and the range is limited. GM refused our repurchase request. Car is essentially worthless on the secondary market until the fix, so we cannot sell and replace. This is very frustrating.

Summary

I am extremely concerned about the battery fire recall for my 2017 Chevy bolt. I live in a townhome, with the garage on the first floor. The only place I can charge the car and park is in the garage on the first floor. And the only way to escape the building is by walking past the garage. So, the risk of a major car fire in the garage is very life threatening to me and my family! I am disappointed about how Chevy has handled this defect. I realize mistakes happen, but I think chevy could have taken more steps to ensure the safety of their customers, and not leave them with a broken car that has lost value due to the perception that it is unsafe. Chevy originally identified this defect Nov. of 2020. They shipped a temporary fix, limiting the range to 90%, decreasing the utility of the car, and didn't ship a "real" fix until around June 2021. We have learned that both the temporary and "real" fix were not effective, and cars have caught on fire with both fixes. Now we are told we won't even be informed about the next "fix" until September! A few things aggravate me: * This is getting to be almost a full years time since a known defect appeared before an effective fix was provided. Unsafe cars have been driving around for about a year! * Chevy has not informed owners the root cause of the issue beyond "a manufacturing defect". How are we supposed to have confidence that the next "fix" actually fixes the problem? We deserve to know what the problem was, and be given proof that the recall actually addresses it. * On the new recommendations, the car now has 50% the range and can't be charged inside. This makes it unusable for many, including me. Why isn't chevy explicitly providing help to their customers, such as rentals, buybacks, etc? How is it legal to cripple my car with no compensation? My perception is that chevy is drawing out this recall so they can to save money, and leaving its customers with a broken car and taking on risks to their safety.

Chevy's recommendation to not charge my car at night and not use a significant portion of the battery significantly impacts the usefulness of the car. I will try to adhere to the recommendations, but I'm not 100% confident this will prevent a potentially dangerous fire. Chevy should move quickly to buy back affected vehicles at a price that will allow owners to replace their cars with a safer alternative. It is unacceptable that Chevy is putting so many people at risk by not resolving this issue.

As indicated on the previous page, there are unresolved recalls on the battery of my 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. This recall presents a life safety hazard to myself, my family, and my home. The recall indicates it is unsafe to charge my car unattended, and it is also unsafe to park the car in my home garage because the battery may melt or catch fire. This defect is known by GM. The car has had all available recall patches applied (will attach receipts). I have been in contact with GM customer service since May about this issue requesting a repurchase of the car or replacement of the car with a current year model at equal trim level. Original recall was November 2020, second recall April 2021, current recall July 2021. Summary

GM has now issued a second recall on my 2017 Bolt EV battery, due to fire. Current guidance from GM/Chevrolet is to not leave the vehicle unattended while charging and to leave outside. This is not workable for me, as I'm not able to charge my vehicle outside and it's not sustainable to leave my car charging within my garage. I would like to participate in GM's "Buy Back" program, whereby they'll buy my vehicle back from me at original purchase price - - or - - offer me options of moving to a similar model/trim line in the current 2022 model year. The fire risk introduced with the vehicle puts me, my family and my property at significant risk and I am unable to use the vehicle in the manner it was originally designed. I'm unable to charge the battery or get appropriate mileage based on the initial design.

My 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has a well known recall with a defective battery. This vehicle is my only vehicle and I have opened a case with general motors to get a resolution for this recall. They created a case for my vehicle and said they will call back with a resolution after a week. Several weeks later, I have yet to receive a response and my case manager has been unresponsive to my phone calls and voicemails. I have called GM almost daily asking for an update from anyone who can review my case and give any sort of update. They continue to tell me they will call back with an answer but I have yet to receive a call back. After several weeks of no response, I am left with an unsafe vehicle and no resolution. I would appreciate any sort of update with even a little bit of information and possibly a rough time estimate. GM seems to be handling these cases poorly and has not been transparent with vehicle owners.

Summary

I own a 2017 Chevy bolt and the batteries are catching fire on a high state of charge which should not happen. Chevy offered a final "software fix" before which was supposed to fix the issue and prevent the batteries from overcharging and catching fire. The software update/diagnostic was also supposed to be able to tell Chevy which battery cells had problems. THIS DID NOT WORK. Chevy bolts continued to catch fire after this software fix . Well the new issue is that Chevy now has a new recall for the bolt to replace the problem battery cells in the pack. The problem is they could NOT identify which were the problem cells before with their software fix. And they're going to use software diagnostics again to try and isolate the problem cells and replace those. They have already proven their software does NOT work to diagnose problem cells in the battery pack. This new recall by chevy won't work and cars will continue to catch fire because Chevy is being cheap as [XXX]. They need to replace the complete battery packs and not individual cells in it. This is the only way because they're completely incompetent and incapable of finding individual problem cells. They need to replace whole packs with good packs to fix the issue. Summary

After GM denied my request for repurchase “as there is a remedy for the Battery Fire issue” (less than 1 month ago) I completed the recall at my nearest dealership [it took a while as ‘my EV guy is on a 2 week vacation’ according to the service manager] I could only drive my car after 10 or so days only to find that the infotainment system has acquired a mind of its own! the radio volume has a huge time delay between the time that I command volume up or down and when that actually happens, and also both the rear and front view camera turn on randomly / alternate with the radio display while backing up and/or parking. this is obviously a bug in the software that started after the new battery monitoring software was installed (and supposedly got a pass while inspecting the pack on my vehicle) My vehicle would be available to inspect by the NHTSA upon request. Although initially it doesn’t appear to be a dangerous condition, if the software that is supposed to monitor the health of the battery pack is defective, how is it possible to trust it? I have not had the chance to have this issue checked by either the Dealership or an independent service facility or an insurance agent or the police, highway patrol or others. I got no warning signs, lights or any other type of advance notice of this.

Summary

I own a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which is part of the recall announced today by GM. This is the second recall in less than a year for the same battery-related issue. It was supposed to have been fixed with a software update. However, I have not been able to get this software update because the only GM dealership within 100 miles that services Bolts has not received the diagnostic tool from GM yet. I continue to drive my car without a critical safety update because I have no reasonable way to get it. This software was supposed to identify defective batteries but it has not been successful as evidenced by the mounting number of fires that have happened after the “fix”. As such, we are now under a recall a second time. As a result of their own manufacturing issue, we are now limited to how we charge our vehicles, where we park and even the mileage range that we paid for, while GM attempts another fix. GM stated today that they will again be using software to identify defective cells in our batteries and only the ones that are deternined to be defective will have those cells or battery packs replaced. As you can imagine, I no longer trust GM to be able to successfully identify whether or not my battery is defective. I’m extremely disappointed by the fact that GM continues to cut corners in an effort to save money, despite such a serious safety issue that can affect so many. Myself, my livelihood and even people I park next to while out in public are at risk. GM must be forced to replace the entire battery pack in every vehicle affected by this recall. They must also provide loaner vehicles, or details on reimbursement for rental cars, to those who need them due to the fact that their vehicle is virtually unusable while they clean up their mess.

Summary

2017-2019 model year Chevrolet Bolt EVs were recalled in November 2020 for battery fires (NHTSA Recall No. : 20V-701, Manufacturer Recall No. : N202311730). A temporary "fix" was released in 2021 which limited the maximum charge of the car's battery to 90%. This was followed with a "final fix" software update which returned full charging capabilities and added battery cell monitoring software. This software supposedly could detect faulty battery cells. The recall was considered resolved. More recently, at least two more Bolt EVs spontaneously combusted; these vehicles had received the final recall software update, and were not charged over 90%. This means two things; limiting the maximum charge level of the car did not protect consumers, and the final recall repair also did not protect consumers. Homes have been damaged, cars destroyed, people injured (no deaths so far, fortunately) and Bolt owners live in a constant state of unease. A new recall has been issued: Manufacturer Recall Number: N212343880, NHTSA Recall Number: 21V560. In addition, Bolt owners have been instructed to park their cars outside, charge only during the day (also outside), and maintain a charge level between ~30-90% at all times. This leaves us with ~36kWh, approximately 90-150 miles of range in warm weather (as opposed to the advertised 239 miles on a full charge). All of these restrictions are simply not possible for many people, especially those of us who live in cold weather environments, which vastly limits the range of the car. Others have no choice but to park their car in underground parking garages, which puts hundreds of people at risk. The new recall does not currently have a remedy, but it states faulty battery cells/assemblies or packs will be replaced. GM failed to detect faulty cells the first time after months of investigation, and I do not believe they will successfully detect them now. I urge NHTSA to force GM's hand: replace the entire battery pack, or buy back the vehicles.

Summary

This is the second safety recall against the same models of the Chevrolet Bolt. GM already attempted to fix this once, and it did not work. You must demand that GM replace the entire battery pack in every Bolt that is affected by this recall. For the second time in less than a year, due to their own manufacturing issues, they have limited our mileage range, this time even less so. We're unable to park in our garage, and can only charge when the car can be supervised. These limitations have been placed on us without any details from GM on how we can obtain loaner cars/reimbursement for rental cars. This issue not only puts myself, my family and my livelihood at risk, but it also puts others around me at risk, as the car can catch fire when it's not even on. I'm scared to drive it at this point, so will be storing it. GM attempted to fix this once with software that was supposed to identify defective batteries. That obviously did not work. I no longer trust them to be able to identify which battery/specific cell within the battery is defective, and demand that they replace my entire battery pack.

two recalls in the past year is suppose to address the battery fire safety issue announed by gm in late 2020. days after the final software fix by gm weeks ago, the "check engine" light was lit on my chevy bolt. a follow up service appointment was needed to replace faulty hardware. today, after gm announced a THIRD recall. I used a popular third party obd2 app to check the health of my chevy bolt, 4 different issues were reported: U0293, P0AC4, U0100, and U0073. Note that GM software reports zero issues from GM's app. At this point, I trust what the third party app is reporting and NOT GM's app. It appears GM is hiding these issues from Chevy Bolt owners. I have a service appointment with Chevy dealership next Monday to assess the state of my Bolt. Overall, i DONT FEEL SAFE with my Bolt anymore. Please follow up with GM to ensure the manufacturer will do the right fix this time. It's CLEAR to me this is a hardware issue no software patch will fix.

Summary

General Motors failed to resolve an issue with batteries starting fires in select Chevy Bolts (an all electric vehicle). This a problem they’ve known about since at least 11/2020. Now we are awaiting the third “fix” for this problem. For months we’ve had to reduce our range and be careful about plugging the car in. GM’s temporary answer now (again) is to 1) Restrict our full battery charge - known as Hilltop mode (basically 200 miles summer/170 in the winter). 2) Not let the battery charge fall below 70 miles, and charge up to the hilltop mode limitation after each use. 3) Park outside after charging and don’t charge overnight. We may have to wait months or years for resolution, it’s already taken them 8 months to try 2 fixes that didn’t work. We are completely inconvenienced and our car may still burn up! We had a charger installed in our garage and don’t charge elsewhere. Our range radius has now shrunk to 60 miles for summer and 45 or less in winter. We live in the country 50-60 miles from a bigger city. The reason we chose a Bolt was for its range, which has been substantially reduced. We shouldn’t have to deal with the cost, time and inconvenience by having to charge halfway through a relatively short trip. We also have high forest fire danger currently, any fire besides damaging our property, could cause a wide area catastrophe. Overnight charging makes sense as we are using our vehicle during the day and we don’t charge during peak load times. We also park in the garage to protect from the elements and rodents. It also helps with keeping the battery from getting to cold. Mary Barra, GM’s CEO, on 6/5/14, said GM found “a pattern of incompetence and neglect” in the handling of a faulty ignition switch. She said she wanted GM employees to never forget this! GM has failed it’s customers again. We like our Bolt, but currently it’s an unacceptable safety risk and range is now too severely restricted from GM’s original range specifications.

Summary

GM has identified multiple flaws in their batteries on this electric vehicle that have led to a dozen fires, but the company has yet to find a final solution despite three recalls. The first recall was a temporary safety recall, but the second recall was supposed to fix the issue. They have, however, only installed software the is supposed to catch these fires before they begin and notify the owner. In fact, this second recall (the "final" recall) failed to stop two additional fires since installing the software update. Today, GM announced a recall to scan the batteries and, if they find a defect, replacing individual modules inside it. The previous recall (which failed to solve the problem) also depended on software to find the problem, and it was not effective. Even if the problem is fixed with this software scan, it is going to take months for the problem to be fixed. Their temporary solution is to leave the car outside, only charge during the day, and charge within a narrow range (which almost halves the range of the vehicle).

Summary

We need NHTSA to require that GM replace all batteries immediately. Allowing cars that might bust into flames is not acceptable. The 2017-2019 Bolts now have effectively 144 miles of range. Charging up to 90% of 238-mile total range gives you 214-miles of range at the new "full charge". And leaving 70 miles of range as your new 0 miles of range will bring you to a total range of 144 miles. Not allowing me to park my car in my garage because of fire hazards makes the matter even worst.

Summary

I've had to deal with the high voltage battery fire recalls multiple times on my vehicle. I rely on this beautiful to drive everywhere with my family and I don't feel confident in the safety of this vehicle anymore. The only way I will feel confident in the safety of this vehicle is if the entire battery pack is replaced, not individual modules. The other more sensible and cost efficient thing to do would be to buy back the effect of vehicles and replace them with 2021 and 2022 models. GM has done this for some customers that were lucky, but it's been proven that this is indeed more cost efficient than trying to figure out logistics and training for employees, to troubleshoot and debug individual modules. Please strongly consider this. Thank you!

Summary

Bolt EV range is advertised as 248 miles. Due to GM’s current limitations due to risk of battery fire, the vehicle has a 30% less range. Not only is this inconvenient, but there is no time estimate given for the current fix. Till then the vehicle remains a dangerous fire hazard which could burn the vehicle, occupant and surrounding buildings. GM has not given out any sort of over the air update in order to ensure that the battery charging guidelines given by them are followed. GM has also established a history now of refusing buybacks to those with affected vehicles. They are responsible for removing these vehicles off the road and providing loaner ones till the fix can be applied. They were not prompt in a final fix to the multiple vehicle fires that have occurred. In addition to being a fire hazard, it also posed an environmental risk as the lithium battery could put off very toxic gases should it catch fire. My vehicle has received both previous recalls, yet is still posing a serious danger. The battery fire hazard has no warning, except for when it is happening.

Summary

I own a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which is part of the recall announced today by GM. This is the second recall in less than a year for the same battery-related issue. It was supposed to have been fixed with a software update that I had completed in June. This is a serious safety issue.

Received an email from GM acknowledging that the last recall had not been entirely successful in fixing the Bolt EV battery problem. After contracting Myasthenia Gravis, I had given away my (GM) gasoline vehicle because I was unable to maintain it with my disability. I purchased a Bolt EV because they assured me it would be relatively worry free and much easier to maintain. Since it's purchase I have been continually informed that it might be a rolling death trap. I no longer have the physiological ability to fight the corporate giants. Calls to GM have proven fruitless. Please do something that effects an actual change in my pursuit of happiness. Thank you: Eric W Biggio

I’m just reporting GMs persistent negligence in dealing with defective battery cells for 2017-2019 Bolts. My car is Cheavy Bolt electric car 2017. It is recalled for battery fire explosion on or about July 2021. I took the car to dealership for recall only on 17 July 2021. After 2 hours they returned the car to me with no explanation on my receipt about recall. I think they did not do anything to the car since no report shows on my receipt. When I asked manager of service they told me ignore warnings on recall. You can park on garage and can charge the car normally. It appears they did not fix my battery problem and I am afraid of my safety. It appears they do not have protocol to fix the car battery.

Summary

I own a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV which is part of GMs November recall due to battery fires. I have followed all the requests by GM to fix the problems, but there are still fires being reported even with the "fixes" GM has provided. At the end of May, I filed a request for a buyback of my Bolt with Chevrolet Engagement Center (case # 9-6747476536) which was denied over the phone in early July even after 2 additional incidents of fires in Bolts recently update with GM's "fixes". GM will not send me any written statement on why my request was denied and I was told that their decision was final and I couldn't request a review or reinstatement my request for a buyback even if further information is uncovered. Now through GM press releases I am told that I shouldn't charge my 2017 Bolt in my garage and should park it away from my house on the street. Since my charging station is in my garage, I can't charge my car using my existing home charging setup. GM has not contacted me directly regarding this new directive and once again has not provided me with written documentation of this directive. GM's process is complete opaque. I haven't been able to use my 2017 Bolt for over 7 months in the manner in which it was advertised and sold to me when new. Since I apparently have exhausted my options with GM to resolve this fire issue, I request that NHTSA vigorously pursue a remedy from GM effectively deals with these Bolt fire issues and that makes owners like myself whole. It seems only governmental action will get GM's attention before someone is injured or killed by one of these Bolt battery fires. If I can be helpful in an inquiry into this issue, please contact me.

Summary

Vehicle was recalled due to spontaneous battery fire risk. Two stages of recall work were performed, both related to the vehicle computer and battery monitoring system. Neither has fixed the underlying cause of the problem, so the recall cannot be considered to be complete. The battery remains at risk of fire based on NHTSA notice on 7/14/2021 and numerous press reports, after at least two fires while at rest after charging were reported in vehicles that had the recall work completed. The recall must be extended and amended to include battery replacement with a unit that is not subject to the current spontaneous fire risk. Without that, the vehicle is unsafe to drive and possess due to fire risk, and has zero value as a tradein or onward sale. Alternatively, even though the vehicle was purchased used (with battery warranty still in force, with a purchased extended warranty, and with no disclosure at the time of a recall or battery fire risk), an exchange for an equivalent new Bolt (2020 or newer) would be acceptable.

I am writing this complaint as a general complaint about Chevy's handling of the numerous fires associated with the 2017-2019 Bolt. I own the vehicle listed in this report and fortunately it has not caught on fire. Chevy is using software to try and identify hardware problems and it clearly does not work. There have now been several additional battery fires after their "final fix" was applied. They are telling owners not to put their vehicles inside a garage and only charge them outside. This is completely unacceptable and there should be a full recall for all affected vehicles. Either replace the entire battery or repurchase the car. These batteries are a significant health and safety risk and need to be removed.

My car has not personally caught fire, yet. But there is a physical manufacturing defect with the high voltage battery system that causes these cars to catch fire while parked and charging. GM "fixed" the issue with a software update and multiple cars have still managed to catch fire despite being "fixed" and assured that the vehicles were safe to own and operate. It's only a matter of time before one of these cars kills someone and GM clearly is unwilling to do the right thing for the safety of their customers. You can not "fix" a manufacturing defect with a software update. GM clearly is incapable of doing the wright thing on their own and NHTSA needs to force them to take this safety issue seriously.

My safety and the safety of my family or other passengers are at risk of a fire starting for no reason and there's no solution offered by GM for this issue. Neighbors are put at risk just by the presence of this vehicle in my driveway. There is an existing recall on my 2017 Bolt EV and GM has not addressed the cause of the battery fires and has instead offered a software update. My car charges in the garage, the danger of battery fires is still present in the battery packs unless it is replaced with a newer type that does not have the original defect. I believe that NHTSA issued the recall to give an auto manufacturer time to rectify a safety defect but it looks like GM has issued a clever workaround to the initial defect of their battery packs by designing a software that will give an early warning of a possible fire. This is not acceptable for the simple reason that there's no guarantee a car owner will hear or see this warning if car is unattended in the garage in the middle of the night. The original safety defect is still present in the defective battery pack so a fix should be for GM to repair the defect in the affected battery packs or replace all defective battery packs. This recall and fix offered is not acceptable it should not take over a year for GM to make good on this recall. Action needs to be taken to get a final fix, this could be deadly to any family that owns this vehicle.

There is an existing recall on my 2017 Bolt EV and GM has not addressed the cause of the battery fires and has instead offered a software that will provide advanced warning when a fire is imminent. Since most of the known fires started in the garage while parked the danger of battery fires is still present in the battery packs unless it is replaced with a newer type that does not have the original defect. I believe that NHTSA issued the recall to give an auto manufacturer a chance to rectify a safety defect but it looks like GM has issued a clever workaround to the initial defect of their battery packs by designing a software that will give an early warning of a possible fire. I have had no failures or problems with my vehicle specifically, but I am fearful of the fire risk due to the Chevrolet Bolt EV battery recall. My local dealer has applied the software patch to my vehicle to limit charging to 90% per the recall, but a permanent fix has not been offered by GM. I am also extremely skeptical that another software modification, as proposed by GM, will provide a permanent fix to the problem, given that it is a failure of the physical battery cells that causes the fires. I implore the NHTSA to place pressure on GM to replace the propulsion battery assembly in the affected Bolt EVs and not just try to “slap a software patch on it” as a fix. Additionally, by limiting the vehicle to 90% charge capacity, this reduces the total mileage range of the vehicle, thus reducing its overall value. (Think of it as saying you can never fill the tank to “Full” in your gasoline powered vehicle, so the MPG rating you originally purchased is no longer valid.)

SINCE I ONLY HAVE SO MANY WORDS I'LL BE BRIEF. LAST YEAR, BEFORE GM, WOULD EVEN ADMIT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, MY CAR THAT I PURCHASED WITH 7647 MILES WAS BACK IN THE SHOP WITH THEM FOR ALMOST A MONTH (BACK AND FORTH) BEFORE IT REACHED 8.K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD ONLY TELL ME THAT IT HAD "ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS" AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I PLACED TWO BUYBACK CASES WITH GM AND BOTH WERE DENIED. AS FOR THEM NOW RECALLING THE CARS, THEY ALWAYS KNEW OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE I PURCHASED MY CAR, I RENTED MULTIPLE BOLTS FROM GM CAR-SHARING SERVICE, MAVEN. AT LEAST THREE OF THE CARS I RENTED HAD A TERRIBLE SMELL EMITTING FROM THE BATTERY. MH RIDESHARE PASSENGERS AND I WOULD DISCUSS IT. AND THEIR TEMP FIX TELLS ME THEY ALREADY KNEW BECAUSE NONE OF THE MAVEN BOLTS WERE ALLOWED TO CHARGE TO 100 PERCENT. ALTHOUGH THE CHARGER SAID WAS FULLY CHARGED, IT WASN'T UNTIL I BOUGHT MY OWN BOLT AND STARTED CHARGING DID I REALIZE THOSE CARS WERE NEVER CHARGING FULLY. I ALWAYS WONDERED WHY THAT WAS THE CASE, BUT NOW WE KNOW. AND THE CARS WERE IN MOTION WHEN WE HAD THE BATTERY "BURPS" I STARTED CALLING IT. I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE SPECIFICS, BUT CHECK ON THE MAVEN CARS, AND WE CAN ASK MY RIDESHARE PASSENGERS. I'M SURE THEY'LL REMEMBER THE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE SMELL BECAUSE IT SMELLED AS IF SOMEONE BROKE WIND UNTIL I REALIZED WHAT IT WAS, THEN IT BECAME MORE OF A SULFUR SMELL TO ME. AND THAT WAS ONLY AFTER ONE OF MY PASSENGERS TOLD ME THAT THE SMELL WAS THE BATTERY. MY CAR NEVER HAD THE SULFUR SMELL, SUB THAT MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT THE DEALER COULD INITIALLY FIX. THEY HAVE IT RUNNING NOW, BUT AGAIN. THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS WELL BEFORE THE COMPLAINTS. FEEL FREE TO LOOK AT MY CAR. THE OCCURRENCE DATE I LISTED IS NOT EXACT. THAT'S JUST ABOUT THETIME I STARTED RENTING BOLTS FROM MAVEN.

THERE WAS A RECALL ON CHEVY BOLTS EV 2017, BECAUSE A FIRE OCCURRED. CHEVY ADVERTISE THAT IT CARS GET 234 MILES ON A FULL CHARGE. THIS IS NOT TRUE AND FALSE ADVERTISING FROM THE GMC MANUFACTURER. SINCE THE RECALL AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED TO 90 PERCENT, THE CAR GET MUCH LESS THAN 234 MILES . THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS A ALL ELECTRIC CAR. IS THIS NOT FALSE ADVERTISEMENT?

MY VEHICLE IS IMPACTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECALLS: 1) MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER N202311730, AND 2) NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 20V701. A FIX WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN PLACE BY JANUARY 1. I FOLLOWED THE MANUFACTURER'S STEPS TO REDUCE CHARGE CAPACITY AND WAITED PATIENTLY UNTIL 1/29 FOR THE FIX. ON 1/29 I CALLED GM CONCIERGE LINE AT THAT TIME TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE STATUS OF THE FIX. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO UPDATE. I INQUIRED ABOUT MY OPTIONS INCLUDING A BUYBACK OR REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IN ADDITION TO A LOANER CAR DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME THE CAR WAS OUT OF COMMISSION. I WAS TOLD NO PROBLEM AND SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME. I'VE RECEIVED TWO CALLS SINCE THAT TIME, AND NONE OF THE PROMISED STEPS INCLUDING BUYBACK, REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, OR LOANER CARS WERE OFFERED. THE REPRESENTATIVES DO NOT RESPOND TO MY EMAILS, WHEN I CALL, THE ASSIGNED REP IGNORES MY CALLS, AND WHEN I ASK FOR A STATUS UPDATE I'M TOLD THERE ISN'T ONE. GM IS CLEARLY DELAYING THE ISSUE. I HAVE INFORMED GM THAT MY VEHICLE IS PARKED IN A VERY CLOSE QUARTERS GARAGE WHERE A FIRE WOULD CREATE AN IMMINENT LIFE/SAFETY ISSUE. GM CONTINUES TO NOT RESPOND TO MY INQUIRY. THE VEHICLE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NONCONFORMITY VEHICLE UNDER THE TANNER ACT AND I AM REQUESTING ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE IS REPURCHASED OR REPLACED. THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMATION POSTED THAT THE BATTERY PACKS NEED TO BE REPLACED ON THESE VEHICLE AND GM IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ISSUE A FIX TO THE VEHICLE AND PREVENT FURTHER INJURY. I AM WRITING TO REQUEST AN INQUIRY BY NHTSA INTO WHAT GM IS ACTUALLY DOING TO PREVENT FURTHER LOSS OF LIFE AND/OR INJURY AND TO REPAIR OR REPLACE MY VEHICLE. I HAVE DOCUMENTED WEEKS OF EMAILS ON THE TOPIC WITH GM WHICH ARE NOT BEING REPLIED TO AND AM NOT SURE WHERE ELSE TO TURN TO GET GM TO ADDRESS THIS OPEN SAFETY ISSUE. THANKS.

I LIVE IN COLD WEATHER, MOUNTAINOUS NORTHERN NY STATE. THE CAR IS USED TO COMMUTE TO WORK, 80 MILES PER DAY SO I HAVE TO CHARGE IT EACH DAY, AND BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE FAST-CHARGE, IT TAKES @ 6 HOURS TO GET FULLY CHARGED TO THE REDUCED MAXIMUM. THERE IS ALSO A LOSS OF PROPULSION POWER AS I GET A DASHBOARD WARNING ALL THE TIME, AND I CANNOT PARK THE VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE WHERE MY HOME CHARGER IS LOCATED. CHEVY SHOULD REPLACE THE BATTERY WITH ONE THAT HAS FAST-CHARGE AS COMPENSATION FOR THE LOSS OF USE, INCONVENIENCE, ETC.

Summary

THE BOLT EV WAS RECALLED ON NOVEMBER 13, 2020 DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD STARTED NUMEROUS FIRES, EVEN WHEN NOT PLUGGED IN. GM OFFERED A "TEMPORARY FIX" WHICH REDUCED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE (REDUCED THE RANGE OF THE VEHICLE PER CHARGE) AND LIMITED SOME OTHER FUNCTIONS). THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED A PERMANENT FIX AND IT HAS BEEN OVER 60 DAYS SINCE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. SINCE GM HAS NOT ISSUED ANY OFFICIAL PERMANENT FIXES TO THIS PROBLEM, AND BECAUSE OF MY CONCERN ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I HAVE TAKEN IT UPON MYSELF TO CONTACT GM DIRECTLY. DESPITE NUMEROUS CALLS AND E-MAILS TO GM, I HAVE RECEIVED NO CONCRETE OFFERS TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. I HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A "CASE MANAGER" - A GM EMPLOYEE- WHO IS SUPPOSED TO HELP PROVIDE A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS ISSUE, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET ANY SPECIFICS AS OF TODAYS'S DATE ABOUT THE PROCESS AND/ OR OPTIONS. AGAIN, THIS DESPITE VERY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS. I AM REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT BY GM THAT THEY MUST GO THROUGH THEIR "PROCESS" AND THAT MY CASE MANAGER HAS NO MORE INFORMATION. PROMISES OF LETTERS OF "OFFERS" FOR REMEDY HAVE NOT APPEARED, DESPITE MY SENDING ALL REQUESTED DOCUMENTATION TO GM, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS. TIMELINES AS TO WHEN REMEDIES WILL BE OFFERED KEEP CHANGING . I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT INFORMATION WILL BE EMAILED REPEATEDLY AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED, ETC. THE INITIAL RECALL ALL STATED ADVISED THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE PARKED NEAR OWNER'S HOUSES FOR FEAR THAT THE CAR WOULD CATCH ON FIRE. NOT ONLY IS THIS IMPRACTICAL FOR ME, I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING A CAR THAT HAS HAD THIS HISTORY. GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FAULTY BATTERIES AND FOLLOW THROUGH ON THE NEED FOR A PERMANENT FIX. THEY ARE ALREADY PAST THEIR DEADLINE IN DOING SO. GM HAS NOT FOLLOWED THROUGH ON RECALL OF THE BOLT EV (BATTERIES CAUSING FIRES).

IN NOVEMBER 2020, GENERAL MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2017-2019 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET BOLT EV VEHICLES. THIS NOTICE APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE, VIN: [XXX]. AS A RESULT, GM IS CONDUCTING A SAFETY RECALL, N202311730. MORE SPECIFICALLY, A CERTAIN NUMBER OF THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH HIGH VOLTAGE CELLS PRODUCED AT LG CHEM?S OCHANG, KOREA FACILITY THAT MAY POSE A RISK OF FIRE WHEN CHARGED TO FULL, OR VERY CLOSE TO FULL, CAPACITY. THE SEVERITY OF THE RECALL NOTICE WAS ALARMING TO MY FAMILY AS WE DRIVE IT DAILY AND OFTEN EXTENDED MILES. SAFETY IS MY PRIMARY CONCERN AND I AM REQUESTING REMEDIATION IMMEDIATELY. GM RECALL DUE TO BATTERY FIRES AFFECTS THIS CAR. THE RECALL SOLUTION TO SIMPLY LIMIT MY DRIVING TO 90% OF THE RANGE IS ABHORRENT. MY CAR IS NOW LESS THAN 90% EFFECTIVE--THERE ARE DESTINATIONS I CAN NO LONGER REACH IN A SINGLE CHARGE, AND RECHARGING IS NOWHERE NEAR AS FAST OR UBIQUITOUS AS GAS. TODAY I RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION GM N202311730 ABOUT DEFECTIVE BATTERIES THAT CAN CAUSE A FIRE WHEN CHARGED TO 100%. GM'S SOLUTION IS TO CHANGE SOFTWARE TO LIMIT MY VEHICLE'S CHARGE TO 90%. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. IT IS A BAND AID. THE BATTERIES ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. WHY SHOULD I SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCE OF THIS AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH REDUCED VEHICLE RANGE AND MORE FREQUENT CHARGING. IF THE BATTERIES ARE A FIRE HAZARD, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH SAFE BATTERIES AT NO-COST TO THE OWNER.

INSTALLED CHEVROLET PREMIUM ALL-WEATHER FLOOR LINERS P/N: 42686568. WHILE PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AT FULL THROTTLE UNDER THE LINER. UNABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND WITH MINIMAL SLOWING FROM PRESSING THE BRAKES, I HAD TO REACH DOWN AND TUG ON THE MAT UNTIL IT DISLODGED FROM THE PEDAL. I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND EXAMINED THE LINER FINDING THAT ONE OF THE SECURING CLIPS HAD COME UNATTACHED (LIKELY FROM TUGGING ON IT). I REATTACHED AND VERIFIED CORRECT MAT INSTALLATION. LATER WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK AGAIN CAUSING UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. EXAMINING THE MAT AFTERWARDS, THE SECURING CLIPS WERE STILL ATTACHED CORRECTLY. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: THE CLIPS THAT SECURE THE FLOOR MAT/LINER ARE ONLY ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE CARPET AND NOT RIGIDLY AFFIXED. WHEN CORRECTLY INSTALLED THE LIP OF THE LINER RISES UP AND ENDS WITH ALMOST NO CLEARANCE TO THE GAS PEDAL, THEN WITH ONLY A SLIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE LINER IT CAN ENTRAP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. OVER TIME WITH FORWARD FOOT PRESSURE ON THE LINER, THERE IS JUST ENOUGH MOVEMENT IN THE LINER AND CLIPS TO ALLOW IT TO SHIFT SLIGHTLY FORWARD AND TO THE RIGHT CAUSING AN INTERFERENCE FIT WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT APPEARS THAT WHEN BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS ARE PRESSED AT THE SAME TIME, THE POWER TO THE ELECTRIC MOTOR CONTINUES TO BE APPLIED. TESTING THIS AFTERWARD SHOWED THAT WITH A FOOT ON BOTH PEDALS, THE ELECTRIC POWER METER STILL SHOWED POWER BEING APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE BRAKING PERFORMANCE WAS SEVERELY DIMINISHED. DURING AN EMERGENCY, A QUICK FLICK OF THE SHIFTER FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL DOES NOT WORK. THE SHIFTER MUST BE HELD FOR A LONGER DURATION, WHICH IS NOT INTUITIVE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ACCELERATING UNCONTROLLABLY AND BOTH HANDS ARE ON THE WHEEL.

I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH CONCERNS OF A FAULTY BATTERY. THE BATTERY SUDDENLY STOPPED CHARGING FULLY. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER TWICE THAT THE BATTERY WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I OPENED A CLAIM WITH GM REGARDING THIS INCIDENT, ASKING THEM TO REPLACE THE BATTERY, SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THERE WAS CLEARLY AN ISSUE. AFTER MONTHS OF BACK-AND-FORTH, GM CLOSED MY CASE STATING IT WAS 'NORMAL DEPRECIATION' OF THE BATTERY. ONE WEEK AFTER THEY CLOSED MY CASE, THE BATTERY SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE WHILE CHARGING IN MY GARAGE OVERNIGHT. IT TOTALED 2 VEHICLES, CHARRED EVERYTHING IN MY GARAGE, AND CAUSED SUCH SEVERE SMOKE DAMAGE THAT ALMOST EVERYTHING IN MY HOME WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE TRUNK AREA, WHERE THE BATTERY IS. MY FAMILY IS DISPLACED WHILE REPAIRS ARE BEING DONE TO MY HOME, AT A TUNE OF APPROXIMATELY $200,000 AT THIS POINT. WE LOST APPROXIMATELY $105,000 IN CONTENTS, AS WELL AS THE 2 TOTALED VEHICLES ($75,000).

ON THE NIGHT OF MARCH 2, 2019 I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON A STATE HIGHWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, LOST PROPULSION. A NOTE CAME ON ON THE DASH INDICATING THAT I NEEDED TO PULL OVER AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. HAPPILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC SO THAT I WAS ABLE TO DO SO WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE AFTER THAT, SO I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. IT WAS VERY COLD WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK AS THE CAR HAD NO HEAT. THE CAR REPORTED APPROXIMATELY 50% BATTERY CAPACITY THE ENTIRE TIME. A SUDDEN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF PROPULSION IS A DANGEROUS EVENT. THE CAR HAD ONLY 11,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER SITTING FOR SOME TIME, THE CAR HAS 'FIXED' ITSELF. HOWEVER, THIS WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO A CERTIFIED CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER AND CALLED CHEVROLET TO REPORT THE ISSUE. Summary

THE BATTERY FOR 2017 CHEVY BOLT HAS PROBLEM AND MY CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS IN THE CITY AND THIS HAPPENED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BATTERY WAS SHOWING IT HAS 70 MILES LEFT, IT DROPPED TO 30 AND THEN ZERO RIGHT AWAY AND I COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. I HAVE ONLY 17,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP, AT FIRST THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON BATTERY THAT WAS ISSUED APRIL 1ST AND I SHOULD BE GETTING A LETTER IN THE MAIL, LATER CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR STORY AND NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NO RECALL AND IT IS ONLY FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY! I DO NOT WANT TO IMAGINE IF THE CAR WOULD HAVE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. IF YOU OWN A CHEVY BOLT BE VERY CAREFUL AND I WOULD NOT TRUST THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AS CHEVY IS NOT EVEN ISSUING A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

Summary

ON 2/27/2019 WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK DURING A SIGNIFICANT SNOW EVENT, BOTH WIPERS STOPPED WORKING ON OUR CAR. THEY REMAINED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WOULD NOT WIPE. THIS POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD AS IT MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR HER TO SEE. ON 2/28/2019 I TOOK THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED AT THE CAR DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAULT WAS CAUSED BECAUSE THE WIPER MOTOR HAD BEEN "STRIPPED". I AM NOT SURE HOW MY WIFE, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR COULD HAVE CAUSED THE WIPER MOTOR TO GET STRIPPED. THE WIPERS WERE WORKING ONE MOMENT, AND THE NEXT THEY WERE NOT. THERE IS A KNOWN BULLETIN FOR THE WIPER MOTORS TO STOP WORKING IN COLD AMBIENT CONDITIONS, BUT THE DEALER IS REFUSING TO REPAIR THE CAR UNDER THIS BULLETIN.

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE LEFT MOST LANE ON CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY 101-S BEFORE THE 405. THE CAR SKIDDED AND I COLLIDED INTO THE CENTER DIVIDER. MY CAR THEN RICOCHETED ACROSS 5 LANES OF THE HIGHWAY AND HIT THE GUARD RAIL ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THEN, MY CAR EVENTUALLY SLOWED TO A STOP AND THE CAR SMELLED LIKE SMOKE. ALL AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. MY NECK AND SHOULDERS WERE VERY SORE AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE CAME AND TOOK A COLLISION REPORT: #9580. THE TOWING COMPANY (EZ TOWING) TOWED THE CAR TO 14710 CALVERT ST., VAN NUYS, CA 91411. ONE OF THE REASONS WE PURCHASED THE CHEVY BOLT WAS BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES. MY FAMILY AND I ARE VERY FRUSTRATED AND HIGHLY CONCERNED THAT NOT ONE SINGLE AIR BAG DEPLOYED IN SUCH A HIGH IMPACT COLLISIONS IN WHICH BOTH THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE INVOLVED.

Summary

AN UNPROMPTED MESSAGE APPEARS PERIODICALLY ON THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN OF MY VEHICLE. THE BOLT EV 2017 OWNER'S MANUAL PROVIDES NO INFORMATION ON THIS UNPROMPTED MESSAGE THAT APPEARS ON THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN, DOES NOT WARN OF THE DANGERS THAT THIS MESSAGE POSES TO DRIVING, AND DOES NOT INDICATE THAT THE DRIVER MUST GIVE ASSENT TO THE IMPLIED FALSE ASSUMPTION THAT THE DRIVER'S ATTENTION IS NOT ON DRIVING IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE MESSAGE FROM THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN. THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN ALSO REMAINS STUCK ON THE REAR CAMERA VIEW WHILE DRIVING FORWARD AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED ON N. MOPAC EXPRESSWAY AND ON W. PARMER LANE, AS WELL AS ON STREETS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD IN NORTH AUSTIN. I HAVE WRITTEN FOUR LETTERS TO MS. MARY T. BARRA, CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY (24 DEC. 2018, 16 JAN. 2019, 18 JAN. 2019, AND 22 JAN. 2019), REGARDING THESE SAFETY ISSUES AND HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE, NOR HAS THE CHEVROLET EXECUTIVE RESOLUTION TEAM ADDRESSED THESE ISSUES. THE CHEVROLET EXECUTIVE RESOLUTION TEAM ARRANGED FOR AUTONATION CHEVROLET OF WEST AUSTIN TO EXAMINE THE SAFETY CONCERNS. THE SERVICE DRIVE MANAGER OF AUTONATION CHEVROLET OF WEST AUSTIN OBSERVED THE VERY PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING WITH MY VEHICLE ON 8 JAN. 2019. AUTONATION CHEVROLET OF WEST AUSTIN THEN PRODUCED A REPORT ON 16 JAN. 2019 THAT FALSELY CLAIMED THAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE 'UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AT THIS TIME' AND THAT THERE WERE 'NO ERRORS FOUND.'

CHEVROLET BOLT 2017 WITH ABOUT 55% OF BATTERY CHARGE BRIEFLY DISPLAYED A MESSAGE 'PROPULSION MAY BE REDUCED' AND A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY AND HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY. THE BATTERY INDICATOR SWITCHED MOMENTARILY FROM 125 MILES TO 40 MILES AND THEN IMMEDIATELY TO 10 MILES AND THE CAR COULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO DRIVE, DISPLAYING MESSAGE 'CONDITION NOT CORRECT TO SHIFT.' BEWARE, AS GLITCH LIKE THAT WITH BOLT CAN REALLY ENDANGER YOUR LIFE, AS IT ENDANGERED MINE. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ALONE IN THE CAR WITHOUT MY FAMILY, STUCK ON THE FREEWAY AFTER DARK AS CARS AROUND WERE GOING FULL SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT AFTER THE REPLACEMENT THE CAPACITY AT FULL CHARGE SHOWS ONLY 154 MILES IN LIEU OF OVER 220 MILES BOLT SUPPOSED TO HAVE.

MY CAR WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT SIGNAL, SOMEONE BEHIND ME WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF MY CAR, PUSHING MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 20FT FORWARD. MY CAR WAS RENDERED IN OPERABLE DUE TO DAMAGE TO A REAR ELECTRICAL AMPLIFIER BENEATH THE TRUNK FLOOR. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A COLLISION REPAIR FACILITY. GM WITHDREW THE NECESSARY STRUCTURAL PARTS TO REPAIR IT (PART NUMBER - 95429564 R UPPER REAR BODY SIDE RAIL.) AND DID NOT RELEASE A NEW PART DURING THE 8.5 WEEKS MY CAR WAS AT THE COLLISION REPAIR FACILITY. MY INSURANCE COMPANY THEN DETERMINED THAT THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR IT. THE OTHER DRIVER DID NOT GET A TICKET, THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 40MPG ON THIS ROAD. THIS WAS A LOW SPEED CRASH THAT RENDERED THE CAR DRIVE SYSTEM INOPERABLE. CHEVY BOLT EV'S WITH MODEL YEARS 2017, 2018 AND 2019 HAS THE SAME DESIGN THAT WILL LEAD TO THE DRIVE SYSTEM BEING INOPERABLE IN LOW SPEED REAR END COLLISIONS.

CHEVROLET BOLT HAS "L" DRIVING MODE, DURING WHICH THE CAR WILL STOP IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED. HOWEVER, THE REAR LIGHT DOES NOT RELIABLY TURN ON. IF THE CAR IS AT LOW SPEED, OR IF THE CAR IS STOPPED, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT MAY BE OFF. THIS INCREASES THE CHANGE OF REAR COLLISION. WHEN IN "L" MODE, THE BREAK LIGHT SHOULD BE ON AT ALL TIMES WHILE THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED.

DESPITE HAVING A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY, WHEN WE PARKED OUR VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DOWN. WE JUMPED THE STARTER BATTERY AND THAT PROVIDED ENOUGH POWER TO ALLOW US TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL SO THAT WE COULD HAVE THE CAR TOWED. AFTER A WEEK, AND MULTIPLE CALLS TO THE ENGINEERS IN DETROIT, THE DEALER HAS STILL NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.MY CONCERN IS THAT THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO REPAIR AN ISSUE WITHOUT HAVING A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROBLEM. IF THIS ISSUE WERE TO RE-OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED, THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE CATASTROPHIC, AS THE CAR WOULD IMMEDIATELY COME TO A STOP AND ALL CONTROL MIGHT BE LOST. I DON'T GET THE SENSE THAT GM IS TAKING THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. THEY SEEM TO BE TREATING THIS LIKE A TECH COMPANY DEALS WITH SOFTWARE ISSUES. THEY ARE SIMPLY WAITING FOR THE PROBLEMS TO OCCUR AND THEN HAVING THEIR ENGINEERS RUN DIAGNOSTICS. UNFORTUNATELY, GIVEN THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE, THEY MAY BE PUTTING LIVES AT STAKE WHILE THEY "DE-BUG" THEIR DESIGN. THIS IS NOT A COMPUTER APP. IT IS A VEHICLE CARRYING HUMANS AT HIGH SPEED. GM NEEDS TO BE MORE PROACTIVE AND TAKE THESE CARS OFF THE ROAD UNTIL THEY FULLY UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE AND HAVE A PERMANENT RESOLUTION.

MY BOLT EV COMES EQUIPPED WITH THE OPTIONAL SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT SYSTEM WHICH LIGHTS UP IN MY SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WHEN ACTIVATED BY A CAR IN MY BLIND ZONE. THIS WINTER THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED BOTH WHEN A VEHICLE WAS IN MY BLIND ZONE AND AT MANY OTHER TIMES AS WELL. MY CHEVROLET DEALER WAS UNABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE MALFUNCTION . THEY CONSULTED WITH GM TECHNICAL ASSISATANCE AND WERE TOLD TO TRACE ALL THE WIRING THROUGH THE VEHICLE LOOKIG FOR A BAD CONNECTION. AFTER READING ABOUT THE ISSUE ONLINE I REALIZED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SONAR USED IN THE SYSTEM IS ONLY CALIBRATED TO WORK WITH THE SPECIFIC OEM TIRES THE CAR CAME EQUIPPED WITH AND DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH THE SAME BRAND OF TIRE WITH A WINTER TREAD. AS I LIVE IN THE NYS SNOWBELT I NEED TO USE SNOW TIRES . THIS APRIL WHEN I TOOK OFF THE SNOW TIRES THE ISSUE WITH FALSE BLIND ZONE ALERTS WENT AWAY. MY DISCUSSION WITH CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE RESULTED WITHOUT A FIX OR RECOMMENDATION ON HOW I CAN USE SNOW TIRES WITH THE CAR. THEY CONSIDER THE ISSUE RESOLVED BY USING ONLY THE OEM ALL SEASON TIRES. I FEEL NEXT WINTER I WOULD HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO DISCONNECT THE SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT WARNING LIGHTS RATHER THAN FOREGOING THE USE OF SNOW TIRES. THE DISTRACTION OF THE SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT WARNING LIGHTS GOING OFF ALL THE TIME IS MORE THAN A DISTRACTION, I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

WHILE TURNING INTO AN ANGLED PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING LOT, THE CAR ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY. BEFORE I COULD ENGAGE THE BRAKE, THE CAR WENT OVER THE CONCRETE BERM SEPARATING ROWS OF PARKING SPACES AND HIT TWO PARKED CARS. ALL THREE VEHICLES WERE DAMAGED (THE VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING, AND THE TWO PARKED VEHICLES). WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE PARKING LOT WAS DRY AND FREE OF SNOW AND ICE. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ~40F. THE CAR WAS NEW (3 MONTHS OLD) WITH ~550 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE SAME BEHAVIOR (UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION) HAPPENED ~1 MONTH EARLIER UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS, I.E., DRY, SNOW/ICE FREE WHILE TURNING INTO AN ANGLED PARKING PLACE. Summary

THIS VEHICLE HAS ABRUPTLY GONE TO ZERO RANGE AND ENTERED A REDUCED POWER MODE EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY SHOWED SUFFICENT RANGE SECONDS EARLIER. AFTER STOPPING, GETTING OUT AND KEYING UP AGAIN, THE CAR STAYED AT ZERO RANGE AND DISPLAYED A CHARGE NOW MESSAGE. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 11, 2018. IN THAT CASE THE RANGE METER SHOWED ABOUT 30 MILES REMAINING. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THERE ARE TWO PRELINIARY WARNINGS BEFORE THE THIRD MORE INSISTENT ONE. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN BY ANOTHER COLLEAGUE WHO HADN'T DRIVEN IT BEFORE, AND HE WASN'T SURE IF HE MISSED THE FIRST TWO WARNINGS OR NOT. HE WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE "STALLED" FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD. THE RANGE WENT TO NOTHING, THE VEHICLE DROPPED IN SPEED SIGNIFICANTLY (NOT A PURE STALL) AND HE HAD TO MOVE THROUGH LANES TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AMID FASTER TRAFFIC. BECAUSE OF THE UNCERTAINTY ABOUT WARNINGS HE MAY HAVE MISSED (I DON'T THINK THEY'RE SUBTLE ENOUGH TO MISS, SO IT IS MY VIEW THEY NEVER HAPPENED) WE TALKED OURSELVES OUT OF A DEALER VISIT. WE TOWED IT TO A NEARBY LEVEL 3 FAST CHARGER INSTEAD, AFTER WHICH IT PERFORMED NORMALLY. SUBSEQUENT ONSTAR E-MAIL HEALTH REPORTS HAVE DESCRIBED THE BATTERY AS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE MOST RECENT OF THESE WAS FEBRUARY 7TH, WHICH IS INTERESTING BECAUSE ... THEN, ON FEBRUARY 8, 2018, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 60 MILES TO NOTHING. SAME ISSUE: DRASTICALLY REDUCED POWER WITH NO ADVANCED WARNING, MANEUVERING THROUGH FASTER TRAFFIC TO A FREEWAY EXIT RAMP. THE CAR CAME TO A HALT ON THE LONG EXIT RAMP. IT WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHERE IT NOW SITS. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A SERIVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL NOTICE FOR ANYTHING, AND AS FAR AS I KNOW THE CAR IS UP TO DATE IN THIS REGARD. THERE MAY BE TWO PROBLEMS: 1) THE BATTERY HAS A DEFECT AND 2) ON STAR HEALTH BATTERY CHECKS REPORTS ARE MEANINGLESS.

Summary

ON A SOMEWHAT CROWDED FREEWAY ON RAMP, STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN CARS AHEAD STOPPED. FULLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT APPLY MAXIMUM BRAKING POWER. THE CAR SLOWED BUT DID NOT STOP BEFORE COLLIDING WITH THE CAR IN FRONT, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN US FOR THE SPEED WE WERE GOING. LATER EXPERIMENTS SHOWED THAT APPLYING THE LEFT HAND BRAKE CONTROL TOGETHER WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED SIGNIFICANTLY MORE BRAKING POWER AND WOULD HAVE STOPPED THE CAR WELL SHORT OF THE COLLISION. FULLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL SHOULD APPLY MAXIMUM BRAKING POWER, AND THE HAND BRAKE CONTROL SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED TO STOP THE CAR AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, FOR ALL DRIVERS WHOSE INSTINCT IS TO PRESS FULLY ON THE PEDAL, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR ANY DRIVER WHO CANNOT USE THE LEFT HAND BRAKE DUE TO A DISABILITY THAT OTHERWISE WOULD NOT IMPAIR THEIR ABILITY TO DRIVE.

Summary

DRIVING HOME IN MY 2017 CHEVROLET BOLT EV, WHEN I WAS ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME AND THE CHARGE/RANGE DISPLAY SHOWED A "MINIMUM" 15 MILE RANGE REMAINING (SEE DASHBOARD PHOTO), THE MESSAGE "CHARGE VEHICLE SOON" DISPLAYED AND THE BOLT ABRUPTLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING UP A STEEP, SNOW-COVERED STRETCH OF ROAD, AND LEFT MY VEHICLE STATIONARY IN THE MIDDLE OF ITS LANE, AN INCREDIBLY UNSAFE SITUATION. AFTER SOME EXPERIMENTING, I DISCOVERED THAT SIMPLY DISMISSING THE "CHARGE VEHICLE SOON" MESSAGE USING THE "CHECKMARK" BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL RESTORED VEHICLE POWER AND ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. SO APPARENTLY WHAT HAPPENED IS THAT WHEN THE CAR REACHED ABOUT 8% BATTERY POWER (15 MILES REMAINING DIVIDED BY 185 AT A FULL CHARGE), IT AUTOMATICALLY DROPPED INTO SOME SORT OF LOW POWER MODE THAT LEFT IT UNABLE TO CLIMB A HILL. THANKFULLY IN THIS CASE, THE ROADS WERE ALMOST DESERTED AND NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT OBVIOUSLY THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT IS VERY HIGH WHEN A VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF A ROAD. THIS VEHICLE BEHAVIOR IS NOT DESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. ON PAGE 231, IT IS STATED THAT AT SOME POINT WHEN THE BATTERY'S CHARGE IS VERY LOW, A "PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED" MESSAGE WILL DISPLAY AND THE "ACCELERATOR PEDAL RESPONSE IS REDUCED". HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE READS, "IN ADDITION, THE REMAINING RANGE VALUE WILL CHANGE TO LOW INDICATING THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE CHARGED IMMEDIATELY." THAT NEVER HAPPENED IN MY CASE. THE "PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED" MESSAGE NEVER DISPLAYED (THOUGH PROPULSION POWER CLEARLY WAS REDUCED), AND AS CAN BE CLEARLY SEEN IN THE POSTED PHOTO, THE MINIMUM RANGE DISPLAYED AS 15 MILES. THERE WAS NO CONCEIVABLE REASON FOR THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN WITH THAT MILEAGE REMAINING. I ASSUME THIS WAS THE RESULT OF DEFECTIVE VEHICLE SOFTWARE OR ELECTRONICS, AND IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE.

WHEN THE DRIVE MECHANISM HAS BEEN SHIFTED TO "L" (LOW), THE VEHICLE SHOULD SLOWLY COME TO A STOP WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT PRESSED. HOWEVER, WHILE THE DISPLAY SHOWED "L", I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE VEHICLE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE FORWARD FROM A STOP (AS IF IT WERE IN "D" INSTEAD). THIS OCCURRED WHILE PARKING, AND THE VEHICLE (WITHOUT OPERATOR INPUT) WOULD LURCH (AS IF SOMEONE WERE TAPPING THE BREAK WHILE IN "D"). THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN I NOTICED THE ISSUE -- IT DID NOT STOP WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE ISSUE PERSISTED AFTER STOPPING -- I STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITH THE BREAK, AND IT WOULD CONTINUE MOVING FORWARD AFTER REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE BREAK. THIS OCCURRED IN A PARKING LOT WHILE PARKING. INITIALLY I WAS TURNING AGGRESSIVELY TO ENTER A PARKING SPOT. BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED AFTER STRAIGHTENING OUT THE VEHICLE IN THE DESIGNATED SPOT. SINCE THIS ACCELERATION IS UNINTENDED AND UNEXPECTED, IT COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. THINGS WHICH I WOULD GUESS MIGHT CONTRIBUTE TO THE MALFUNCTION: - QUICKLY SHIFTING FROM "P" TO "D" TO "L" AFTER TURNING ON THE VEHICLE. - ACTIVATING THE LOW-SPEED COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM WHILE IN "L" (IE, GETTING VERY CLOSE TO PARKED CARS WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT). I HAVE A VIDEO OF THIS BEHAVIOR AFTER I STRAIGHTENED OUT IN THE PARKING SPOT. BUT I CAN'T ATTACH VIDEOS. PLEASE CONTACT FOR INFORMATION.

THE SEATS ARE HORRIBLY SHAPED AND FAR TOO NARROW IN THE POSTERIOR/BUTTOCK/THICK AREA. THE RIBS ALONG THE SIDES OF THE SEATS PRESS INTO THE BACKS OF MY LEGS (I AM 5'8, 160LBS AND 35 YEARS OLD) TO THE POINT WHERE I GET BRUISES AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 5 MINUTES. THEY ARE JUST DESIGNED EXTREMELY POORLY. FURTHERMORE, EXITING THE VEHICLE REQUIRES ME TO PLACE MY ENTIRE BODY WEIGHT ON A THIN PIECE OF PLASTIC ALONG THE SIDE OF THE SEAT WHILE SLIDING OFF IF IT, FURTHER GIVING ME BRUISES. I HAVE ORDERED A THICKER SEAT CUSHION TO ASSIST WITH THE PROBLEM, BUT I FEAR THAT I WILL BE PUSHED UP HIGHER AND NOT SECURELY ANCHORED TO THE SEAT SINCE I WILL BE SITTING ABOVE THE SIDE BOLSTERING, POTENTIALLY CREATING A MAJOR SAFETY RISK. I'VE LEASED THE CAR SO I'M LOCKED IN, BUT I CANNOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT WITH THESE SEATS AS THERE IS TOO MUCH PAIN, EVEN FOR HOURS AFTER DRIVING HAS COMPLETED.

3 TIMES IN THE FIRST1500 MILES SMALL STONES HAVE BECOME LODGED IN THE BREAKING, IN BOTH FRONT WHEELS AND NEVER I THE BACK WHEELS. THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT ALLOWS STONES TO ENTER BETWEEN THE BACKING PLATE AND THE ROTOR. THE BECOME STUCK (LODGED) THERE AND, IN ADDITION TO CREATING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE, COULD IMPAIR BRAKING AND STEERING, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. ALL THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET BOLT. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A LOUD HOWLING TYPE NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BANKS CHEVROLET IN CONCORD, NH) WHO DISCOVERED THAT SMALL STONES HAD BECOME STUCK INTO THE BRAKING SYSTEM BETWEEN THE BACKING PLATE AND THE ROTOR. THE STONES WERE REMOVED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS ON BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500. *BF UPDATED 8/2/18*JB

THE SEATS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE TO THE POINT WHERE IT HURTS MY REAR END AND LOWER BACK. ALBEIT MY PERSONAL OPINION, IT SEEMS THE PADDING IS INADEQUATE. FURTHERMORE, THE BACK OF THE SEAT APPEARS TO HAVE A GAP IN IT SO EVERYTIME YOU LEAN BACK, THE SEAT CLICKS. THIS ISN'T A DEFECT BUT RATHER A POORLY DESIGNED SEAT. THE SEAT ISSUE WILL PASS ANY TEST DRIVE BECAUSE THE TEST DRIVE IS SO SHORT. I'VE NEVER OWNED A CAR WITH SEATS LIKE THIS, USED OR NEW AND CHEVY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE SEATS.

DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY (60-70MPH) WITH THE BATTERY AT OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE 50%, AN ALERT SOUNDED, AND THE BATTERY LEVEL IMMEDIATELY WENT DOWN TO NEARLY ZERO. IT ESTIMATED 10 MILES LEFT, BUT SPEED IMMEDIATELY DECREASED, AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING. AFTER RAPIDLY COASTING OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AND WITHIN SECONDS, THE CAR MADE A SERIES OF LOUD NOISES AND COMPLETELY STOPPED.

Summary

AFTER DRIVING THE BOLT FOR ONE HOUR I DISCOVERED THAT HARD PLASTIC PIECES OF THE SEAT COULD BE FELT THROUGH THE BOTTOM CUSHION CAUSING SEVERE LEG PAIN AND NUMBNESS. THE PAIN TOOK 3 DAYS TO GO AWAY. THE SHORT DURATION OF THE TEST DRIVE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO FEEL THIS PAIN. AFTER TALKING TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS I'VE DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE BOLT. APPARENTLY IN A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF BOLTS (~%25) THERE IS INSUFFICIENT PADDING APPLIED TO THE SEAT. I HAVE SEEN PICTURES THAT SHOW A BOLT WITH PROPER PADDING AND ONE WITHOUT AND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE OF UP TO 2X IN HEIGHT. I HAVE SEEN PICTURES OF THE FOAM INSIDE THE SEAT AND IT VARIES SIGNIFICANTLY BETWEEN BOLTS. I AM REQUESTING THAT CHEVROLET RECALLS THE SEATS THAT ARE DEFECTIVE AND ADDS PROPER PADDING TO THEM. I CURRENTLY HAVE TO ADD A LARGE SEAT CUSHION TO THE SEAT WHICH COMPROMISES MY ABILITY TO DRIVE THE CAR AS IT PUTS ME AT A HEIGHT WHERE THE REARVIEW MIRROR NO LONGER WORKS AND I ROLL AROUND IN THE SEAT WHEN I GO AROUND CORNERS. THIS IS A HEALTH ISSUE AND A SAFETY ISSUE. I'VE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF EXAMPLES OF CONVERSATIONS WHERE MANY PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THIS PROBLEM.

Summary

SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE PROPULSION POWER REDUCED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE AND READ WHAT THE WARNING LIGHT MEANT AND DECIDED TO HEAD HOME. I STOPPED ON THE WAY HOME AT THE GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED THE CAR THE WARNINGS WERE STILL THERE AND THEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO GEAR. I KEPT GETTING A MESSAGE THAT CONDITIONS WERE NOT RIGHT TO SHIFT AND PLEASE PUT THE CAR IN PARK. (IT WOULD GO INTO NEUTRAL) WHEN I TRIED TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IT WOULDN'T SHUT OFF. I FINALLY GOT IT TO SHUT OFF BY OPENING THE DOOR WHEN I WAS SHUTTING IT OFF. ON STAR TOLD ME I WAS HAVING A "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND THE CAR WOULD NEED TO BE TOWED. THE TWO TRUCK DRIVER CALLED ME 15 MINUTES LATER AND ASKED ME TO MAKE SURE I COULD GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. I STARTED THAT CAR AGAIN, ALL THE WARMINGS CAME BACK ON EXCEPT IT DID ALLOW ME TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. I DROVE IT HOME AND BACKED INTO MY DRIVE. THE TWO TRUCK ARRIVED AND WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ALL ON BUT AGAIN IT DID SHIFT INTO GEAR. HE TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.

Summary

THE HID LIGHTS ARE UNSAFE. THE GLARE IS HARSH IN EYES OF ONCOMING VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS. THE HID HEADLIGHTS CAST A DEFINED BOX OF LIGHT BEYOND WHICH ALL IS DARK; THEREFORE, ANIMALS, PEOPLE, DIPS AND CURVES IN THE ROAD, AND OTHER VEHICLES OUTSIDE THE BOX OF LIGHT ARE INVISIBLE. THESE SHOULD BE OUTLAWED.

Summary

1) SUNLIGHT REFLECTS OFF OF THE WHITE DASH ONTO THE WINDSHIELD AND BACK INTO THE DRIVER'S EYES. VISIBILITY IS IMPAIRED. THE EFFECT EXTENDS AS FAR AS THE SIDE MIRRORS AND THIS IN PARTICULAR NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER CAR WHICH I DID NOT SEE DUE TO THE TEMPORARY OPACITY OF THE GLASS. I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE OF THIS INCIDENT. I'M ONLY CLICKING ON THE CALENDAR BECAUSE THAT ACTION IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. I'M USING THE DATE THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN. THE INCIDENT LIKELY HAPPENED THE DAY BEFORE. 2 )THERE IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH SUNLIGHT REFLECTING OFF OF A SHINY CHROME BAR JUST ABOVE THE VIDEO SCREEN DIRECTLY INTO THE DRIVER'S EYES.

Summary

I HAVE A LIGHT GRAY INTERIOR TRIM PACKAGE AND THE GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD IS EXTREME. THERE ARE TIMES, LIKE PULLING INTO MY OWN OR PUBLIC GARAGES, WHEN MY VISIBILITY IS REDUCED ALMOST COMPLETELY. ON THE OPEN ROAD THE PROBLEM IS ALSO SIGNIFICANT. TO MAINTAIN GOOD VISIBILITY I HAVE RESORTED TO WEARING POLARIZED SUNGLASSES AT ALL TIMES DURING DAYLIGHT DRIVING.

Summary

THIE IS A NEW LEASED VEHICLE. ISSUE RELATES TO SEVERE FORWARD VISIBILITY IMPAIRMENT IN DAYLIGHT DUE TO DASHBOARD REFLECTION. MY CAR INTERIORS ARE LIGHT ASH GRAY-CERAMIC WHICH INCLUDE A LIGHT-GRAY COLORED DASHBOARD AND TRIMMING. I HAVE RELAYED THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP (WESELOH CHEVROLET - SAN DIEGO CA) - BUT THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO PURCHASE A DARK-COLORED 3RD PARTY DASH-COVER. I AM CONCERNED 3RD PARTY DASH MAT COULD COMPROMISE OR OTHERWISE ADVERSELY AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE / DEPLOYMENT OF DASHBOARD AIR-BAGS DURING A COLLISION - THUS COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS. THE VISIBILITY IMPAIRMENT IS QUITE SEVERE DURING DAYLIGHT (SEE PHOTOS). THIS PRESENTES THE FOLLOWING POTENTIAL RISKS: - DANGER TO PEDESTRIANS - INCREASED RISK OF COLLISION & CAR/PROPERTY DAMAGE - FATIGUE IF DRIVING FOR PROLONGED TIMES - (IF USING 3RD PARTY DASH COVER) RISK OF MALFUNTIONING DASHBOARD SRS

Summary

REDUCED VISIBILITY THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE COMBINATION OF LOW WINDSHIELD ANGLE AND A LIGHT COLORED DASH REDUCES VISIBILITY THROUGH THE WIND SHIELD. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A PROBLEM WHEN GOING FROM LIGHT TO DARKER AREAS- INTO GARAGES, ALONG A STREET WITH TREES AND ALONG A CITY STREET AS BUILDING BLOCK SUNLIGHT.

Summary

DUE TO THE ANGLE OF THE WINDSHIELD, REFLECTION FROM THE LIGHT ASH GREY COLOR, CREATES A VERY VERY BRIGHT COLORED GLARE, WHICH REDUCES VISIBILITY IMMENSELY ON SUNNY DAYS. WITHOUT THE PROPER SUNGLASSES, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE PEDESTRIANS, OTHER CARS AND SIGNS. NOTE THE "SHADED" AND OR THE VENTS OF THE DASH AND HOW MUCH DARKER AND LESS REFLECTIVE THEY ARE IN THE ATTACHED PHOTO. ( IE, ABOVE THE TRANSPONDER WHERE IT IS SHADED) I UNDERSTAND THAT THE DARK COLOR DASH DOES NOT CREATE THIS DANGEROUS REFLECTION AND SOME OWNERS HAVE REPLACED THE DASH AT THEIR OWN COST. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THE LIGHT COLOR DASH, TRIM, ETC, SHOULD BE REPLACED AT COMPANY EXPENSE. THIS IS A NEW MODEL AND IT WOULD BE BETTER NOW THAN LATER, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT, OR WORSE, KILLED!

Summary

THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS TOO EASY TO PUT THE CAR IN "PARK" BY ACCIDENT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I WAS TRYING TO GO FROM THE "L" POSITION TO THE "R" POSITION. TO DO SO REQUIRES YOU TO PRESS THE SIDE BUTTON AND MANEUVER THE SHIFTER TO THE R POSITION. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DOING SO, I INADVERTENTLY PUSHED THE "P" BUTTON ON TOP OF THE SHIFTER RESULTING IN THE CAR ENDING IN PARK WHEN I WANTED TO REVERSE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I GRABBED THE SHIFTER AND PRESS ON THE "P" BUTTON WITH MY PALM WHILE TRYING TO PRESS THE SIDE BUTTON. MOST OF THE TIMES IT WAS NOT A BIG DEAL, I JUST TRIED AGAIN AND THEN PROCEEDED. HOWEVER, ON ONE OCCASION TODAY, I WAS ABOUT TO MOVE INTO AN INTERSECTION WHEN A FAST MOVING CAR APPEARED FROM A BLIND SPOT AND I TRIED TO QUICKLY BACK-UP AND ENDED UP IN PARK INSTEAD. IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO REALIZE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND FINALLY GOT IT IN REVERSE BUT IT WAS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AS I WAS IN PARK IN THE INTERSECTION WHEN I NEEDED TO MOVE QUICKLY OUT OF THE WAY.
