Car couldn't be turned off. Dash would say "shift to park" when it was already in park. The problem was intermittent but the number of times needed to get the car to shut off was increasing. GM was aware of the problem but said it hadn't risen to Recall status. I saw over 500 of the same complaint online. They charged $800 to replace the switch and wiring. GM has stopped making Volts, so that could be why no recall???
Went into a store to pick up a snack and the cashier noticed that my driver side door was on fire. The entire indoor panel was melted and burned. It looked like the fire started on the inside of the door panel where the wiring is. The car was turned off at the time of fire
I am having a shift to park error message when I am in park
The car suddenly started starting problem, then the electrical charging component to refuel the power from an electrical charging outlet was unable to charge. Now it does not start at all. I brought the 2017 Chevy Volt to a dealer, it has been more than a week and they said that the part to fix the problem is not available yet and I have to wait. They do not have any idea when they will get the part.
When I put the car in park the vehicle tells me I need to shift to park even though it is shift to park. Vehicle will not shut down and drain itself.
Shifter Will not see car in park have to keep shifting up and down before car knows its in park.
After a little over 3 years and 16017 miles, my Volt would not recognize it had been shifted into park and would not shut off. This started occasionally doing this, and reshifting out of and back into park solved it. Finally, I could no longer get the car to recognize it was in park and could not shut off the car (still running on electricity). I drove it to the dealer, and they kept it a week. They replaced the transmission shift controller and cable. The repair total was $452.85, and my Ally extended warranty covered all but the $100 deductable. GM has a technical bulletin out on this issue: #19-NA-206.
BECM (Battery Control Module part # (24296900)) on my 2017 Chevrolet Volt failed. When the failure occurred the instrument display showed a “Propulsion Reduced” warning. At the same time the engine started (the traction battery was fully charged at the time) and the check engine light came on. I subsequently received an email from General Motors that they had detected a lithium ion battery problem with the car and to have it serviced within 7 days. The GM dealer subsequently diagnosed the issue as a failure of the BECM module. Although an online search of this issue shows that there have been hundreds of failures of this module there are no replacement parts currently available. The car has been sitting at the dealer for several weeks with no estimate of when a replacement part will be available. The dealer has recommended not driving the car until it is repaired. I was able to drive it to the dealer on electrical power after the failure occurred.
I received a 'Reduced Propulsion' message along with a check engine light and that progressed to a 'Engine not Detected" message and stranded along the interstate in a dangerous situation. Had it towed to a dealership which had a technician which could work on a volt - he replaced the Engine Control Module fuse which "fixed" the car for about 15 miles and then the 'Reduced Propulsion' error with the Check Engine light appeared. Technician said something must be shorting out the fuse. Dangerous situation.
Drive power reduced, Shift to Park, BECM faulty part 24296900 not covered by warranty. Car cannot be shut down
Shift to park message and will not allow car to be turned off. This problem also occurred ~2 years ago and the part was replaced by Chevrolet under warranty. This seems to be a serial defect
The check engine light came on followed by a loss in propulsion power of the engine. During freeway driving, a sudden loss of power posed a significant risk to both driver and other drivers on the road as the resulting sudden loss of acceleration forced other drivers to swerve around the vehicle to avoid hitting the car. The problem was reproduced when the engine came back on after 2 attempted repairs. I am very scared and concerned with my life/safety.
I bought the car in 2020. It had intermittent problems with the car registering “shift to park” when the car was in park. This would not allow the car to be started, leaving me stranded. The intermittent problem has become much more frequent now. Yesterday and today 16 Dec 2021, the car is not ever registering that the vehicle is in park. The transmission display shows I am in “P” (park), but the display keeps saying “shift to park” and the car won’t start.
This car star having many issues with over heat .
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact mentioned that the electrical hybrid battery failure warning error was illuminated, and the check engine warning light was also illuminated. The vehicle was able to start after multiple attempts to switch over to gasoline mode. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery energy control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The vehicle’s service airbag warning light is illuminated. The dealership diagnostic indicates that the passenger seat sensor needs to be replaced. Based on my research, this was also an issue with the Volt’s 1st Gen models.
When placing my car into Park and then powering it off I get an error message telling me to shift to park to shut vehicle off even though it is in park. Problem is two fold: I cant turn the car off and the result is a battery that runs dead. Very frustrating and if the car isnt off it could accidentally be put into gear by a child.
The vehicle often will not turn off after pressing the power button, even though it is in the Park position the vehicle stays on with the console message “Shift to Park” displayed. Normally releasing and the re-engaging the foot brake and toggling the shifter lock resolves the problem, but today (Nov 22, 2021) the vehicle did not recognize that the vehicle was in Park when in a city parking lot after approximately 10 minutes of attempting to turn off the vehicle. If the vehicle does not recognize that the shifter is in park and does not turn off, the battery may drain, and if one needs to leave the vehicle, the operator cannot be sure the vehicle will remain in position. No warning lights appear for the vehicle on turning on the vehicle.
The car will not shift
The car doesn't shut off. I get an error: "shift to park". Started yesterday, 11/9/21. I have to jiggle the gear selector to get it to shut off. I'm sure that is going to stop working for me. I've seen that their have been various lawsuits regarding this issue. Not sure what my next step is.
I'm having a shift to park issue with this chevy volt, it won't register with the system I'm in park mode. I'm also having an adaptive cruise control issue as it's telling me adaptive cruise control is unavailable at this time. The adaptive cruise control is a hit or miss.
shift-to-park problem. This is a noted problem with these Volt's. The Dealer is charging around $450 to fix this problem. With more than a couple of service bulletins on this, it is a troublesome issue.
My Chevy Volt has the "Shift to Park" error. It intermittently will not turn off, which means you also cannot start it. This left me stranded at night in a county park, which closed before the tow truck could arrive. The car has 40,205 miles and the dealer says this problem is not under warranty because it is a "bumper to bumper" issue covered only under the 36,000 mile warranty. As categorized by NHTSA, this is an electrical and power train issue and is a glaring defect that is essential to the car even functioning and should not happen on a car with 40,000 miles.
Car does not sent park position when lever is pushed in park position. This results in car not being turned off and drains the battery.
When attempting to turn my car off, a message is displayed saying "SHIFT TO PARK". My car is already in park, and jiggling the gear shifter will generally get rid of the message. Sometimes this can take several minutes. It is not possible to turn my car off when this message is displayed, and the battery will die if the car is left with this message displayed. The car is available for inspection upon request. It is being repaired in the next few days though. The problem has been confirmed by a local mechanic. The problem has a class action lawsuit against GM for the issue: https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2021/gm-shift-to-park-lawsuit-vehicles-cant-be-shut-off.shtml#:~:text=The%20car%20does%20not%20detect%20park%20mode%20and,and%20Maryland%20plaintiff%20Juanita%20Crawford%20%282017%20Chevrolet%20Malibu%29. The problem first appeared approximately 2 weeks ago without any prior notice or warnings, at 44,000 miles.
For approximately 4 months, after shifting the vehicle to park and attempting to shut the vehicle off, I get a warning message to “Shift to Park” even though the vehicle is already in park. The vehicle will not shut off unless I shift the vehicle into reverse and then back into park.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle loss motive power with an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. However, the vehicle would lose motive power whenever the vehicle exceeded 60 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer informed the contact that the warranty had expired and there were no appointments available. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Keyes Chevrolet (5949 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401) and the dealer informed the contact that the warranty was expired and could not assist the contact without the contact paying the diagnostic fee. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they would escalate it to the legal department. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
Unknown what caused the fire per fire department. I drove to my bosses house and parked the car for about 15 minutes. I was about to leave in the car right before the fire started. At 12:05PM on 09/22/21 the car started smoking and fire appearing under the car. My safety and other by standers was put at risk by the thick black smoke and flying debris from the car. Thankfully I was not driving when the car caught fire. There were 4 different explosions two of which I believe were the two front tires and the gas tank. The Saint Louis County police and West County EMS & Fire protection both took a report but I do not have a copy of it. No warning signs or lights on the car when I parked it.
When the vehicle is placed in park and shut off, the alert on the dash states to put vehicle in park to turn off.
Car started giving message “Place car in park”, even though car is in Park. Thus not allowing me to turn my car off. I have to move it from Park to Drive multiple times before it registers and I can turn my car off. This happens at least once a day, but seems to be getting worse and worse… looking online many others are having same issue across many Chevy models.
I place the car in park and I receive a warning on dash that says “action required shift to park”. The car will not shut off. I have had to leave it running twice. I googled and others have had similar problem
SHIFT TO PARK. INDICATOR ON DASH "said ""shift to park " but is parked and car turned off . ?? [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
After putting the vehicle in park, a warning comes up that says “action shift to park” and the vehicle will not turn off or recognize that it is in park. Also the heater doesn’t work at all at times in the winter and only blows cold air, finally after driving for two weeks only once a message that said service heater came on but that was in the summer. The cruise control intermittently stops working. I have asked CarMax to service when it was under warranty and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it apparently. It has happened numerous times since and now it’s not under their warranty of course. I have photos of it happening and a video of the cruise control problem as well. These things have happened multiple times not just once so to put in a date of the incident I do not have enough dates that I can even put in. I have added my three photos. The additional photos are other peoples comments about the same cruise control problem when I researched if this was a common problem.
After parking the car and moving the shifter to the "park" position, I tried to turn off the vehicle. The message "Action Required: Shift to Park" appeared, and the vehicle would not turn off. After the problem began, it happened more and more frequently, sometimes requiring 3-5 attempts to shut off the car before it successfully turned off and I could leave it parked. After this happened almost every time I drove for two months, I took the car to a Chevrolet dealer, where they confirmed the issue and replaced the shifter. The problem has since ceased, but it was a very expensive repair for a problem that seems to be very common in Volts.
When turning off vehicle the vehicle states to put shifter into park even though it's in park. Sometimes have to turn vehicle on and off multiple times and get ride of message. Other times just moving the shifter will cause it to go away.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated while the vehicle was standstill when the battery charger plug caught fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with his fire extinguisher. The fire department nor the police department was not contacted. The contact stated no one was injured or seek medical attention. The contact stated the vehicle was still drivable but unable to charge to drive. The contact called the local dealer and was made aware the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
Hello my car says shift to park from time to time an I can't move and whenever I turn with my electric mode sometimes it stutters and switches to gas.
Car exhibits "shift to park" message when attempting to turn off car. This issue is still occurring after the completion of the technical service bulletin and jumper wire installed. Bulletin No.: 19-NA-206
When putting my 2017 Chevy Volt in Park and attempting to turn off the vehicle, I get a "Shift to Park" notice on my screen. The gear shift says I'm in Park, but it's not registering. When this happens I cannot turn off the vehicle properly. This has been an intermittent problem for several months, which is increasing in frequency. I have an appointment to have this repaired next week at my dealership, but have been told this is not covered by my warranty, as I'm at 45,000 miles. Apparently, this is a known issue with several GM vehicles.
When the car is stationary and the gear shift is in "Park", dashboard provides constant warning that car needs to shift to park and won't shut off properly. It leads to difficulty in shutting and starting the vehicle.
When I put the car in park, and turn off the engine, I receive a “Shift to park” message, and the engine doesn’t turn off. It has been happening for about a year, and is happening more frequently now.
This vehicle has a “Shift to Park” issue which is well established all over the internet. I’m afraid to walk away from the vehicle when that message pops up. Seems to be something that could injure/kill someone if the car cannot be left in park safely. This has been an ongoing/intermittent issue for months. The date stated below only represents today’s date of report.
This is a shift to park issue. Like all the others I have read online when I put the car in park, and hit the power button the car will not power off. A message appears on the dash that says To shift into park. Obviously I’m already in Park.
Car is stuck unable to start, screen shows "Shift to Park" when trying to put into gear.
I have owned the 2017 Volt since August of 2017. Late 2018 or early 2019 I started having an intermittent problem when I turned the car off. The screen showed an error message "Action required - Shift to park". The car was in park already. I would push the start button. Shift into gear and shift again into park. In the beginning that solved the problem. But the car did not fully shut down when the error message is displayed. If the door is opened, the signal that the engine is running beeps. I took it to the dealer service department . They kept the car for a day to diagnose the problem but did not get the error message. But as the problem was intermittent, it continued. I returned the car to the dealer and they said they made an adjustment that should resolve the problem. It didn't. The problem became constant and I could not shift into park. The car did not fully shut off and I couldn't lock it. I returned the car to the dealer and it was there for several days while they waited for a new shifter. It was on their EV charger full time so as to not drain the battery. The shifter was replaced in February 2019. I thought this was a random incident but found out it is not. In July 2021 the same problem returned. I called 2 dealers for an appointment and have to wait 3 weeks for an appointment. I looked online for solutions and to see if others had the same experience. I found many postings and comments with screenshots of the same error message and cars not turning off. It seems to be a defect affecting the Volt and other GM cars of the same age. I had an appointment at lunch 8/3/21 and after several tries to engage the parking gear, the car still would not turn off. I had to leave it running in the parking lot for 30 minutes and it would not lock. The car shut off normally when I returned to the office. This is not an issue of safety on the road, but the inability to turn off the car and lock it is a safety factor, especially for women.
For a second time in 2 years I am having a "shift to park" issue. When I go to park the car and shift to park, I get an alert on my dashboard that says "Action required Shift to Park". The car will not turn off, and I have to re-start the car and try shifting back to another gear and then shift up to park - sometimes, this takes over 10 times before the car finally recognizes I've shifted to park. I had this problem fixed within a month of purchasing the car in 2019, which was the first time this issue started happening. The dealership (McCluskey Chevrolet - Cincinnati OH) replaced the motor unit. Within the past week (7/19-7/25) this issue started again. Chevrolet is aware of this issue, and has not been compelled to issue a recall. I'm requesting that NHTSA move forward with an official recall for this faulty component.
As do many other owners of Chevrolet Volts and Malibus, I have experienced the "Shift-to-Park" problem last year and again this year. The problem involves shifting to park and then shutting off the motor. The motor stops but the error message "Shift to Park to turn off engine" appears on the dashboard console. The engine has stopped, the car is in park, but the message continues. When I open the door, the beeping alert signal begins and continues. I had it repaired by the dealer last year and the 2017 Volt is back at the dealer's for the same problem again this year. There should be a recall for this widespread problem.
I frequently get an error message that says, "SHIFT TO PARK." The car is parked but it does not turn off because the car does not recognize that the the gearshift is in the park position.
The car suffers from periodic electrical issues where it does not recognize the current status of the transmission and says "Shift to Park" even though vehicle is already parked. This culminates in a complete failure of the control module/battery/wiring harness systems and eventually the entire electrical system stops connecting to the engine. Our vehicle is now in the shop and
While driving on the interstate at 75 mph I had to accelerate briefly to allow another vehicle to merge safely onto the road. Immediately my dashboard gave me a warning message saying “reduced propulsion acceleration may be limited” and the engine warning light came on. The temperature of my coolant began to rise over 230 F & then 240. Miles from my destination, I reduced speed & took the next exit to stop for fuel and read my owners manual. I discovered that the same message could appear if the car was not put into “mountain mode” thereby failing to reserve a certain amount of energy in the battery. I had hoped we starting the engine & resetting the computer with the car in “Mountain mode” would resolve the matter, but that was not the case. I let the engine cool down for a bit & restarted my trip as I was just 20 miles away from my destination. Later on, I got another message as my engine began frequently skipping and sputtering that told me my “engine as not available” despite having a bear full tank of gas. I pulled over to read the manual & discovered that this message indicated once my car ran out of electric energy it would just stop working! As I had been on the road for 6.5 hours prior, I knew there was no electric reserve to pull from & said a prayer that my 4-yr-old daughter and I could get safely and get a tow to the dealership. The “reduced propulsion” message is part of a recall on the gen2 Volt, tho that recall relates to a software glitch & the remedy just provides “additional warning time” for this serious issue. My car just turned 5 years with 33,000 miles on it. I have followed all maintenance recommendations. Seems like an electrical emissions issue, & with a lithium battery on board, fire from overheating scares me as much as than engine failure on the interstate. But I had a full tank of gasoline! Dealer says it is a “short in my EGR Valve” & that part needs replacing.
Car would not turn off. Got the message "Shift to park" on driver display, but car was in park. Had to cycle the gear shifter several times in order to get it to shut off.
When I start engine it says action required shift to park and it’s already in park. Then car won’t move. This has happened several times. Sometimes it will start but says vehicle propulsion is reduced and I drove it like this once and it was dangerous. This keeps happening and I am scared!
We are having the "Shift to Park" problems described many times on various forums about this car. The car does not recognize that we have indeed shifted into Park (when we have) and remains on. Others have described power outage whiles driving and various serious issues once this problem starts. GM is aware of the problem.
Shifter is defective so that the car won't turn off, instead sticks on with "Shift to Park" warning. This makes it not possible to lock the car using the buttons, and drains the battery, resulting in stranded driver. Dealership said that they had never heard of it, but I see on the internet that is very, very, very, very, very common problem. Started after about 5,000 miles, has done is sporadically for last 4 years. Getting worse so that rarely turns off now, we just leave it on a charger all the time now.
I get the shift to park error 9/10 times I stop the engine. When I shift the gear to Park and turn off the engine, it gives me the "Shift to Park" error and will not allow the engine to turn off. I have to repeatedly jiggle the shifting gear until it finally turns off. It's a hazard that can leave me stranded. This started happening a few months ago. It used to be very rarely, but now, as I mentioned, is happening almost every time I try to stop the engine.
Parking sensors malfunction often and error "service park assist". Sometimes when someone is less than 500 feet away and turning the car slams on the brakes which points to a radar issue. Also sometimes the adaptive cruise doesn't work (Windshield is clean) so we are without cruise control. Happened twice on a cross country trip.
Rancid HVAC smell for the last 2 years. Florida dealer failed to diagnose it and did not turn on afterblow feature with simple 5 minute programming so now we hate to drive this Volt. It starts after a few seconds and gets worse for about 5 minutes unless using fan only then it never goes away. Recently took it to the HVAC specialists at the local dealer who diagnosed it as other than HVAC related smell even though it only happens when air goes through the vents. These same people make safety repairs and are ASE certified. GM customer service says it needs a second "permanent" treatment in 3 months (evaporator core foam and sealant) and then it will be better. Dealer failed to fix after 1 full day and 1 half day. Washed car each time and elongated a 3 inch windshield crack into almost the entire windshield top to bottom because they leave cars in the heat all day and then wash before the customer picks them up. The technician admitted it happens all the time (maybe wash when it first arrives or let people know it may cause a crack to get worse. Never charged the car even though that's a Volt process. Escalated in GM customer service she told me it will take 3 days to receive all info. No updates.
When turning the car off a "shift to park" message appeared. The car wouldn't automatically lock because it thought it was still in drive. When I returned I tried to turn the car on while still in park, I shifted back to Drive and then back to park and the same message appeared when I tried to turn it on as if it still hadn't turned off. No AC, steering or the startup sound so I tried to wiggle it and then took my foot off the brake and then turned off, I then opened the door to cut power. I put my foot on the brake and the car started normally but this is the 4th time in less than a week. Heat outside at this time of year is 115 degrees+ so being stranded for a neutral safety switch or transmission gear sensor is unacceptable especially when my Wife and daughter primarily use it. We had this problem over a year ago and they replaced the whole gear selector assembly but it is showing signs of failure again.
Shift to park issue. Can not turn the car off as it does not recognize it is in Park.
This is apparently a very well-known “shift to park“ problem. Once the car is shifted to park in the emergency brake is on, you press the button to turn the car off, but it won’t turn off. A shift to park notice comes up on the dashboard and the car will not turn off. It can take up to 15 times so far to turn the car off. I entered today’s date as the date of the problem, but it’s been ongoing for about six or seven months. I’ve taken it into the Chevrolet dealer about this before, and they said it was part of a recall. They fix the recall, but the problem is persisting. They claim that since it didn’t happen at the dealership they can’t fix it.
Intermittent Shift to Park Message - which on my car is permanent. My car will not shut off as it does not think it is in park. This is a very common problem with a number GM vehicles especially the Chevy Volt and should be subject to a recall. GM has a newly designed transmission control assembly to correct this problem.
When turning off the car, after shifting to park, I get a message indicating "Shift to Park". As it is already in Park, there is nothing that can be done. I have sometimes been able to get it to go away by continually starting, shifting to drive, shifting back to park and then trying to shut the car down again. Sometimes I just don't have time to do it and have to leave the car in this state and leave the car. I doubt it could be driven as I have the key fob, but it is on and when I get back, the car is powered up. I am not sure if there are safety implications to this as I don't know the cause of this problem. I have researched on line and this is not unique to my 2017 Volt.
The charger that was supplied with the new car caught fire in the J Connector handle and melted (pictures attached). this happened in my garage and I discovered it within 3 hours after it happened due to a chemical smelling smoke haze in the garage, and a pile of ash on the floor under the J Connector. There was no other damage other than the connector and it took a few hours to air out the garage. I had plugged it in to be charged at 12 amps with the dash indicating "7 miles" of charge left. The dash indicated "9 miles" of charge available after the fire (full charge this time of year is approximately 58 miles). The fire went out on its own. The charger has been plugged in the same outlet for the last 3 years and there is almost no load on that circuit other than the car (exterior lighting that has 4 led bulbs of low lumens). After the fire my wife recalled that she thought the charger handle felt hot once the previous week when she unplugged it. This is a serious safety issue because it could have started a house fire and risked the health, lives, and safety of my family--5 of us and a dog, nevermind the damage to property and risk to first responders. I reported this to the dealer I bought the 2017 Volt from new, which is Fitzgerald Auto in Frederick, Maryland. They asked me to bring the charger and car out same day which I did. It took them 3 days to call me and inform me solely that the charger is not covered under warranty anymore because it has been more than 3 years and 36 thousand miles since I purchased the car, and they told me technically it is "an accessory" and not part of the car. They asked me to purchase another charger from them at more than $600 which I declined to do. I do not know if they informed Chevrolet/General Motors of the issue or sent the damaged charger in for analysis. They did not comment at all on the safety part of it.
When shift-to-park the vehicle says the cars is not in park and will not turn off.
When attempting to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle does not recognize that the shift lever has been moved to the park position and thus stopping the vehicle shut down sequence. The vehicle provides a warning message to the driver that in order to shut the vehicle off, the vehicle needs to be shifter to park. The shift lever at this point is stuck in the park position and unable to be moved but the vehicle will not recognize the lever position. and you are unable to to move it. In order to get the vehicle to recognize the lever is in park, you must press the starter button, which discontinues the shut down process and commences the start up sequence. You must then press the shutdown button again to get the vehicle to shut down. Quick search of the internet indicates many other owners are experiencing the same issue but no safety recall that I can find.
Car intermittently fails to shift from Drive to Park which means car can’t be turned off. Car intermittently fails to allow the fuel door to be opened which means it can’t be refueled.
In increasing recurrence, when I try to turn the vehicle off, after having shifted to park and the dashboard is displaying that the vehicle is indeed in park, a notification alert appears saying "action required, shift to park" and the vehicle will not power off unless the shifter is jammed forward sometimes registering that it is in park. Often I will have to turn the car back on, and shift into drive and back into park and sometimes that will work and the car will shut off properly after that.
Car would not shut off. Message appeared "Shift to park" on driver display, but car was in park. Had to cycle the gear shifter several times in order to get it to shut off.
car will not turn off when in part and press power off button. Seems dangerous to me. Please issue a recall.
When I park the car, it will not turn off. Gives the message "Action Required Shift to Park" But it gives that message while the car is in park. Originally, when it first started happening two years ago, it could not be reproduced. As such, while it was under warranty the problem could not be reproduced. Now it happens over 80% of the time I stop the vehicle. I mentioned the problem to the dealer but they could not replicate the issue. Eventually, if you move the transmission linkage around enough the error clears and you can turn the car off. But this puts excessive wear on the transmission linkage. And now, its out of its basic warranty. Its clear the problem has happened to many others out there, with far fewer miles than me (51,300 miles). Why isn't the manufacturer being held accountable for this issue?
At approximately mile 370 of a 390 mile trip while operating the engine in hold mode, the engine overheated, requiring me to pull over to the side of the road, wait for the engine to cool, and then proceed to the nearest Chevrolet dealership using the battery in order to be repaired. The first warning I received was a "reduced engine power" message. I scrolled through the status pages and found the coolant temperature to be 230 deg F. I continued to monitor the temperature until a few minutes later received the overheat warning and pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle is a 2017 Chevrolet Volt with approximately 15,000 miles. The dealership found the EGR valve (part # 12691147) to be internally shorted and replaced it. From various internet reports this appears to be a common occurrence for this model year. This is a safety risk in that it is most likely a known defective part that fails prematurely totally unexpectedly.
The car will be shifted in park, but the car does not recognize it. It will show “Shift to Park” and won’t lock while sounding the alert. It’s very bad for the safety for the vehicle
Upon shifting vehicle in park, the vehicle will not turn off and shows a "shift to park" warning on the dash. Jiggling the gear shift has worked in the beginning but now is becoming less effective. Vehicle does not shut off unless this warning clears. We view this ad a safety and security concern.
CURRENTLY, THE VOLT WILL BE PARKED AND WILL NOT TURN OFF THE CAR. IT IS DISPLAYING A MESSAGE SHIFT TO THE PARK ISSUE. THIS IS VERY MISLEADING CONSIDERING THE CAR IS ALREADY IN THE PARK MODE AND WILL NOT TURN OFF.
Shift to park message comes up randomly. Doesn’t allow car to be put in drive. Goes away randomly.
THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN PUT IN PARK, GIVES THE ERROR "SHIFT TO PARK" CANNOT TURN VEHICLE OFF AND GOES IN TO ACCESSORY MODE.
Shift to park issue. When stopping the car and placing it in park it will flash a warning message stating that you need to "Shift to Park" even though the car is in park. As a result the car will effectively keep running for a period of time. My 2017 Volt began exhibiting this issue recently. I took it to the local Chevy dealer who charged me $106.00 to tell me what they already knew since there are multiple Service Bulletins for this issue. The car only has 34k miles on it but is past the 3 year limit so they also want to charge me to repair it but based on multiple online chatter the repair does not typically last for more than a year. Why is something like my car will not shut off not being treated as a safety concern??
IT IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND THAT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN ARRIVING TO A STOP (AT TIMES) THE CAR STILL ADVANCES FORWARD ABOUT A FOOT, EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS BEING USED AS FAR AS IT CAN. ALSO THE VEHICLE CLAIMS TO BE LOSING PROPULSION, OFTEN, AND SEEMS STRAINED WHEN OPERATING WHEN THE MESSAGE APPEARS.
MY 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT PRESENTS A "SHIFT TO PARK" ERROR. WHEN I SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK AND PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON, I RECEIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH DISPLAY INDICATING: "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK." THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER REMAINS LOCKED IN THE PARK POSITION. THE PROBLEM IS ONLY CURRENTLY RESOLVED BY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, FOLLOWED BY SHUTTING IT BACK OFF AGAIN. I HAVE HAD TO DO THIS UP TO 6 TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD ACTUALLY SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTING IT INTO GEAR, FOLLOWED BY RETURNING IT TO PARK AND SHUTTING IT OFF, RESOLVES THE ISSUE. WHEN THE "SHIFT TO PARK" ISSUE OCCURS, I AM NOT ABLE TO LOCK MY VEHICLE AS IT IS STILL "RUNNING."
I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND IT ROLLED BACKWARD. I WAS STRUCK BY THE DOOR AND CRUSHED BETWEEN THE CAR AND AN ADJACENT BRICK WALL.
I AM EXPERIENCING THE WIDELY DOCUMENTED "SHIFT TO PARK" ISSUE. [XXX] WHEN I AM PARKING THE CAR, I SHIFT INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE CAR POWER. BUT OFTEN A RED WARNING LIGHT FLASHES IN THE CENTER CONSOLE INSTRUCTING ME TO "SHIFT TO PARK". AT THAT POINT, THE SHIFTER IS LOCKED AND NUDGING IT DOESN'T CLEAR THE ERROR. SO I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR, SHIFT TO REVERSE(OR DRIVE), SHIFT BACK TO PARK AND THEN TURN OFF THE POWER AND HOPE THAT THE ERROR GOES AWAY. ACCORDING TO REGEN2 IN [XXX] , ITS A LUBRICATION ISSUE OF THE CENTRAL MAIN SHAFT ITS NOT DANGEROUS BUT ANNOYING AND PREVENTS ME FROM LEAVING THE CAR WHILE I TRY TO CLEAR THE ERROR. SINCERELY, [XXX] PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
WHEN AT REST, I SHIFT INTO PARK AND SUCCESSFULLY PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. THEN, WHEN I TRY AND TURN OFF THE CAR, I GET A MESSAGE TO 'SHIFT TO PARK.' IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN OFF THE CAR OR LOCK MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW THE CAR IS IN PARK. I HAVE TO TURN ON THE CAR, SHIFT BACK AND FORTH, AND TRY TURNING OFF THE CAR AS WELL. THIS MAY HAVE TO HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES, 3-4, BEFORE I CAN FINALLY TURN OFF MY CAR COMPLETELY.
SHIFT-TO-PARK ISSUE. AFTER SHIFTING TO PARK, AN ALERT SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK." THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF AND THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK.
AFTER SHIFTING CAR INTO PARK, AND POWERING OFF THE ENGINE THERE IS A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE DESPITE THE CAR ALREADY BEING IN PARK. THE CAR DOES NOT TURN OFF. THIS HAPPENS REPEATEDLY. PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME.
GETTING SHIFT TO PARK NOTICE ON THE DASH. I HAVE TO FLICK THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER A FEW TIMES TO GET IT TO GO AWAY.
AFTER BEING PARKED FOR OVER 24 HOURS, WHEN WE STARTED THE VEHICLE WE GOT A MESSAGE SHIFT TO PARK. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AND WAS UNDRIVEABLE. WE TRIED TO CONTACT ONSTAR FROM THE VEHICLE BUT THD CONNECTION KEPT BREAKING UP. WE GOT THROUGH ON OUR CELL AND WERE FORWARDED TO GM. THEY ORDERED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCECE. WHILE WAITING, WE AGAIN STARTED THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A BEW MESSAGE INITIALIZING: WAIT TO SHIFT BUT THE CAR DID NOT GO INTO GEAR. WHEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ARRIVED, THEY ALSO TRIED WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. IN READING VARIOUS FORUMS, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A MAJOR REPAIR. I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FIR THIS ISSUE?
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT IT GIVES ME A SHIFT TO PARK WARNING ON MY DISPLAY. IT WON'T TURN OFF AND WON'T LOCK. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP FIRST AVAILABLE ON 3/5/2021. THEY KEPT VEHICLE FOR FIVE AND A HALF DAYS WAITING ON THE PART AND OFFERED NO LOANER VEHICLE. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING N-HARNESS AND SL-N-SWITCH AND PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE VOLT ONCE AGAIN DISPLAYED THE SAME MESSAGE ON MARCH 20, 2021. I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON FEBRUARY 27,2021 WITH ONLY 25K MILES ON IT. I AM NOW FACED WITH CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TO REPAIR SOMETHING THEY SAID WAS FIXED AND PROBABLY SHOULD BE A RECALL BASED ON THE 27K OTHER CHEVY VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M HOPING THAT I DON'T HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET WITH ANY MORE MONEY TO GM ON SOMETHING THAT THEY SAY DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE VOLTEC WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION, WIRING HARNESS, OR THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY, DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW WHICH ONE TO REPLACE BASED ON THREE DIFFERENT SERVICE BULLETINS. WOULD YOU WANT YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER IN A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T PROPERLY PARK OR AT LEAST TELL IT'S SOFTWARE THAT ITS IN PARK? I THINK NOT IF EVERYONE IS BEING HONEST!
WHEN I TRY TO TURN OFF THE CAR, I PUT THE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION AND THEN PRESS THE STOP BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR. THE DASH SHOWS THE CAR IN PARK, BUT A MESSAGE SHOWS UP SAYING, "THE CAR NEEDS TO BE IN PARK BEFORE THE CARE CAN BE TURNED OFF". I CAN TRY SEVERAL TIMES AND GET THE SAME MESSAGE (P-D-P-D-P...) THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT AND THEN CONTINUOUS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SHIFTER (DESCRIBED AS A KNOWN PROBLEM) AS I WAS CONCERNED THAT I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CAR IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY (GAS GENERATOR FIRE, ELECTRICAL SHORT, LI BATTERY OVERLOAD, ETC). ALSO, I COULD NOT LOCK THE CAR UNTIL SOME RESET CONDITION OCCURS 10-15 MINUTES LATER.
THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY .ANYTIME IM ABOUT TO PARK MY VEHICLE , AND I TURN OFF THE CAR IT STATES ON THE CLUSTER THAT MY CAR ISN'T PUT INTO PARK , WHICH I DO AND IT SHOWS IT'S IN PARK BUT THE CAR TELLS ME TO PLEASE SHIFT IT INTO PARK . THE CAR CANNOT BE SHUT OFF. IT'S A REAL SAFETY HAZARD TO BE UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR BECAUSE THE SYSTEM WON'T RECOGNIZE THE CAR BEING IN PARK . I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A WAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE MYSELF . AND FROM ALL THE COMPLAINTS THAT I SEE FROM OWNERS IT SEEMS THIS IS A REAL ISSUE THAT NEEDS A RECALL AND SYSTEM UPDATE SO THE CAR RECOGNIZES THAT IT'S IN THE PARK POSITION .
IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT INTO PARK. NEARLY HAVE TO PUSH HARD TO HAVE THE PARK SETTING ENGAGE. UNABLE TO TURN ENGINE OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENS. ALSO, THE WINDOW WILL NOT GO UP SMOOTHLY. IT GOES UP AND DOWN ALL ON ITS OWN. IT APPEARS TO HAVE A MIND OF ITS OWN. YOU MUST OPEN THE WINDOW ALL THE WAY BEFORE IT WILL CLOSE. CANNOT PREFORM THAT FUNCTION WHEN IT IS ONLY PARTIALLY OPENED.
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE. IT WILL NOT GO INTO PARK AND ALLOW CAR TO BE TURNED OFF. PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. CHEVY SAYS THIS VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DESPITE FACT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM.
I AM HAVING A 'SHIFT TO PARK' ISSUE. WHEN I STOP THE CAR AND SHIFT TO PARK, I ATTEMPT TO POWER OFF THE CAR. THE VOLT WILL NOT POWER OFF AND I GET AN ALERT ON THE DASHBOARD THAT STATES "SHIFT CAR TO PARK TO TURN OFF". BUT THE CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK. I AM UNABLE TO LOCK THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW MINUTES. WORSE YET, IT IS INTERMITTENT. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT RE-STARTING AND STOPPING THE CAR IF USUALLY TURNS OFF. MY VOLT HAS ONLY 28K MILES.
THE VEHICLE FAILS TO TURN OFF BECAUSE IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS IN PARK.
WITH THE VEHICLE STATIONARY AND GEAR SHIFT SET TO PARK, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO POWER OFF THE VEHICLE, A 'SHIFT TO PARK' MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT POWER OFF. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF CHANGING THE GEAR SHIFT TO DRIVE AND BACK TO PARK, THE VEHICLE POWERED OFF.
WHEN SHIFTING INTO PARK, AND DEPRESSING THE START BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, I SEE A "ACTION NEEDED: SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE ON THE DASH. SOME TIMES I CAN SHIFT THE CAR BACK INTO GEAR AND SHIFT BACK, OR SOMETIMES IT JUST LETS ME TURN IT OFF. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY, WITH A FAULTY SENSOR BEING THE CULPRIT IN THE FULL ASSEMBLY. THIS AFFECTS BOTH CHEVY MALIBU'S AND CHEVY VOLTS IN THE SAME MODEL GENERATION.
SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN MID-2020, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS INCLUDING AGAIN TODAY. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE CURRENTLY.
WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND I AM DRIVING ON ANY STREET OR HIGHWAY IF I SHUT OFF ANY COMPONENT OFF THE HVAC SYSTEM, THE VEHICLE WILL GET VERY DAMP INSIDE. ON RAINY, FOGGY, OR COLD CONDITIONS ALL THE WINDOWS WILL FOG IN 30 SECONDS TO THE POINT I CANNOT SEE. IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO CLEAR IF I TURN IT BACK ON. THERE IS SOME DEGREE OF DAMP MUSTY FEELING IN MY CAR ANY TIME I TURN THE SYSTEM ON AS WELL. I AM AFRAID IT WILL START GROWING MOLD. I CANNOT GET THE DEALER TO WORK ON IT UNDER WARRANTEE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTEE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. IT HAPPENS STILL.
THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK EVERY SO OFTEN. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I USE A LOT OF THE STEERING CONTROL TO INCREASE AND DECREASE THE SPEED. IT'S I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES AND THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I DON'T HAVE SPECIFIC DATES WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT IT HAPPENS ENOUGH. OTHER THINGS THAT HAPPENS ARE 1) THE VOLT HAS A CHARGE SETTING THAT OPTIMIZE TO START CHARGE DELAY DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU SCHEDULE WHEN YOU PLAN TO LEAVE SO THE CAR WILL NOT BE LEFT FULLY CHARGE FOR A LONG TIME. HOWEVER, THE ESTIMATED CHARGE TIME IS COMPLETELY OFF NOW. IT SEEMS TO THINK IT WILL TAKE 12 MORE HOURS TO CHARGE. THEREFORE, THE CAR WOULD START CHARGING A FEW HOURS EARLIER THAN IT SHOULD. 2) THE AUDIO SYSTEM CONNECTED TO THE SMARTPHONE IS VERY BUGGY. SOMETIMES THE DISPLAY SHOWS MUSIC IS PLAYING BUT NO AUDIO.
THE CAR DOES NOT TURN OFF COMPLETELY AND SHOWS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN PARK MODE. IT IS A COMMON ISSUE BUT CHEVY DOES NOT RECALL AND CHARGES CONSUMERS FOR OUT-OF-WARRANTY VEHICLES.
SHIFT TO PARK WARNING ON DASH
WHEN THE CAR IS BEING SHIFTED TO PARK, THE SYSTEM GIVES A WARNING TO 'SHIFT CAR TO PARK' IN ORDER TO TURN OFF VEHICLE. SHIFTER IS NOT RESPONDING TO CAR LEAVING THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO BE TURNED OFF.
CAN NOT TURN ENGINE OFF AFTER PARKING THE CAR. THE MESSAGE "ACTION REQUIRED" 'SHIFT TO PARK' SHOWS UP EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS IN P AND PARKING BREAK IS ALSO APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERYDAY THE PAST WEEK. HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR UNTIL IT TURNS ITSELF OFF!
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE- WHEN CAR STOPPED AND GEAR SHIFTER PLACED IN "PARK", CAR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AND CANNOT CUT OFF IGNITION, SHOWING "SHIFT TO PARK" ON DASH. AFTER JIGGLING GEAR SHIFT A LOT AND PUTTING IT IN AND OUT OF PARK MULTIPLE TIMES IT FINALLY RESOLVES. AFTER SEARCHING ON WEB, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE IN 2017 VOLTS.
ERRORS: "UNABLE TO CHARGE", U2619, U2620, U2621, U2622, U2623, U2624, UB2AAA, BECM NEEDS REPLACING; ALSO "SHIFT TO PARK" ERROR IS VERY COMMON IN THIS CHEVY VOLT.
MY WIFE AND I WERE TAKING A 200 MILE TRIP. I WAS USING THE "HOLD" MODE, DRIVING AT 65 MPH, AND ABOUT 60 MILES INTO THE TRIP A MESSAGE CAME UP THAT I WAS IN REDUCED POWER MODE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND READ THE MANUAL AND THEN PROCEEDED ANOTHER 30 MILES USING THE ENGINE. I REDUCED MY SPEED TO 50 MPH. AFTER STOPPING FOR AN HOUR AT OUR DESTINATION, WE STARTED BACK HOME, BUT THE SAME ALERTS WERE ON THE SCREEN. I WENT TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, 5 MILES. BEFORE GETTING THERE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAD 40 MILES OF BATTERY LEFT SO I PROCEEDED THE LAST 2 MILES TO THE DEALER ON BATTERY POWER. THEY COULD NOT SERVICE THE VEHICLE SO I HAD IT TOWED BY AAA 90 MILES TO TULSA. THE DAY BEFORE I LEFT I HAD RECEIVED THE MONTHLY DIAGNOSTIC REPORT WHICH STATED ALL SYSTEMS WERE FINE. THE CAR HAS 27,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS THE EGR VALVE, WHICH ARE BACK ORDERED. I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE REPAIRED.
KNOW AS 'SHIFT TO PARK' ISSUE. CAR WILL NOT SHUT DOWN AFTER PUT INTO PARK.
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF AFTER BEING PUT IN PARK. SHIFTING TO PARK SHOULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE TURNED OFF WITH THE START/STOP BUTTON. IT WILL NOT TURN OFF IN THE PARK POSITION.
CAR WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT TURN OFF WHEN SHIFTER PLACED IN PARK AND ON / OFF BUTTON PUSHED. MESSAGE ON DISPLAY SCREEN WILL SHOW "SHIFT TO PARK". IT APPEARS THE VEHICLE IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 12/10/2020 AND IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THRU TODAY'S DATE 12/23/2020. IT HAPPENS IN THE PARK GEAR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE.
I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE " SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN THE VEHICLE GEAR SHIFT IS IN PARK.
PRIOR TO STARTING MY 1,100 MI TRIP WITH MY 2017 VOLT PREMIER, I INFLATED THE TIRES, CHECKED FLUIDS, & CHARGED THE CAR. THE MONTHLY DIAGNOSTIC REPORT I RECEIVED THE DAY BEFORE MY DEPARTURE INDICATED NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR, WHICH HAD APPROX 40,500 MI. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATES & HIGHWAYS USING HOLD (GAS) MODE, OCCASIONALLY MOUNTAIN MODE. APPROXIMATELY 275 MI. INTO THE TRIP I RECEIVED POWER PROPULSION REDUCED ALERT. AFTER AN ADDITIONAL 50-75 MI I RECEIVED AN ACTION REQUIRED: ENGINE OVERHEATING REDUCE SPEED ALERT. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND PROCEEDED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS SAFE TO CONTINUE ON MY TRIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROPULSION ALERT WAS NOT AN IMMEDIATE CONCERN & THAT THE OVERHEATING WAS LIKELY NOT RELATED. I ALSO RECEIVED A GM DIAGNOSTIC E-MAIL STATING THERE WAS AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE SERVICED WITHIN 7 DAYS, BUT DID NOT BECOME AWARE OF THIS E-MAIL UNTIL A DAY LATER. APPROX 200 MI LATER, I WAS ON A REMOTE, UNLIGHTED HIGHWAY WHEN I RECEIVED AN ENGINE UNAVAILABLE ALERT AND LOST POWER. MY CAR QUICKLY DECELERATED, BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A NARROW SHOULDER. I TIRED TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, APPLY EMERGENCY BRAKES, AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TELL IF THESE FEATURES WERE WORKING. I PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND WAITED FOR A CHP OFFICER DUE TO LACK OF CELL SERVICE & HIGHWAY SAFETY CONCERNS AT NIGHT. AFTER 3 HOURS, ALL SYSTEMS FAILED, INCLUDING LIGHTS. ONLY MANUAL LOCKS WORKED. AFTER TWO 30 MI TOWS TO GET TO A DEALERSHIP WITH A VOLT TECH, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A BAD EGR VALVE WAS CAUSING A FUSE TO BLOW,. THE VALVE WAS ORDERED (TECH REMARKED THAT THE PART IS "POPULAR") & INSTALLED. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE FIXED. BUT, IT IS UNCLEAR IF THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, MANUFACTURING FLAW, OR A ONE TIME OCCURRENCE.
WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY, WHEN I SHIFT TO PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF IT DOES NOT ALWAYS RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS IN PARK AND DIRECTS "SHIFT TO PARK," DESPITE THE SHIFTER BEING IN PARK, AND WILL NOT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER THE CAR IS IN PARK OR NOT. ALSO BEING UNABLE TO LOCK THE CAR MEANS THE CAR IS AT RISK FOR VANDALISM AND/OR A CHILD GETTING INTO THE CAR AND TURNING IT ON.
CHEVROLET "SHIFT TO PARK" DEFECT. CAN'T POWER OFF CAR OR LOCK DOORS BECAUSE VEHICLE INDICATES IT IS NOT IN PARK, DESPITE CORRECT SHIFT POSITION. $400 TO REPLACE PART ON CAR WITH 45K MILES. PART NOT COVERED UNDER DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. PROBLEM HAPPENING ACROSS CHEVY MODELS VOLT, MALIBU, TRAVERSE, ACADIA ETC... NEWSPAPER ARTICLES AND USERS COMPLAINING ON CHEVY FORUMS. NO REASON FOR SOMETHING WITH SO LITTLE USE TO BE FAILING SO EARLY ON VEHICLES. CHEVY OWES CONSUMERS A RECALL.
WE OWN TWO 2017 CHEVY VOLTS. BOTH HAVE TWO ISSUES: 1) OFTEN CRUISE CONTROL DOES ALWAYS STAY ENGAGED DUE TO BRAKE PEDAL SLIPPING TO A VERY SLIGHT DEPRESSED POSITION. 2) SHIFT-TO-PARK- CARS WILL NOT PROPERLY GO INTO PARK SOMETIMES AND THUS CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. THESE TWO ISSUES ARE CLEARLY MANUFACTURER DEFECTS AS BOTH CARS WERE BOUGHT NEW AND WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. I WILL ENTER THIS FOR MY OTHER VIN NUMBER AS WELL. THESE HAVE BEEN ONGOING ISSUES THAT WE ARE HAVING TO SPEND MONEY TO CORRECT AND THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THESE BEING ISSUES, YET THERE IS NO RECALL. WE PURCHASED BOTH CARS BRAND NEW WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. BOTH ISSUES HAVE BEEN ONGOING AND HAVE OCCURED MORE THAN ONCE.

41000 MILES AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT ON AT ALL TIMES WHEN CAR IS POWERED ON. PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT ON OR OFF STATUS IS TOTALLY DARK, NO INDICATION OF STATUS. DOES NOT MATTER IF A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT OF NOT OR IF THE CAR IS MOVING OR NOT.
AFTER COMPLETING DRIVING AND THEN SHIFTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE WON'T SHUT DOWN AFTER PUSHING START/STOP BUTTON AND GIVES AN ERROR MESSAGE TO 'SHIFT TO PARK' EVEN THOUGH IT'S ALREADY BEEN SHIFTED TO PARK.
PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED WHILE DRIVING. POWER IS LOST AND BATTERY CELLS ARE DRAINED CHEVY DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT FIND ERROR OR ADDRESS PROBLEM. AFTER PHOTO SHOWING ERROR ON DASHBOARD.
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE. EVEN WHEN THE GEAR LEVER IS IN PARK POSITION AND TRYING TO SWITCH OFF THE POWER THE CAR STILL REQUEST TO MOVE TO PARK AND DOESN'T SWITCH OFF
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARS THIS CAR FAILS TO TURN OFF WHEN IN PARK. INSTEAD A MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED SAYING "SHIFT INTO PARK" EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK. LAST TIME IT REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF A SWITCH IN THE SHIFTER. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND SOMETIMES HAPPENS OVER AND OVER BEFORE I CAN GET THE CAR TO ACTUALLY TURN OFF.
VEHICLE HAS A "SHIFT TO PARK" ERROR MESSAGE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. THIS WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED THIS IS A PROBLEM ACROSS THE BOARD WITH GENERATION 2 MODELS AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL AROUND THIS SINCE IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED CANNOT BE TURNED OFF IF THE COMPUTER BELIEVES ITS NOT IN PARK. I HAD TO START/STOP AND SHIFT THE CAR IN VARIOUS GEARS FOR A FEW MINUTES TO FINALLY HAVE IT RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK. MANY YOUTUBE AND REDDIT THREADS SHOW THE ISSUE. APPARENTLY GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM TOO.
WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, IT SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED, SHIFT TO PARK" IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT IT'S ALREADY IN PARK... IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SHIFTER AND THEY HAVEN'T ISSUES A RECALL YET. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.
INTERMITTENT "SHIFT TO PARK" DURING PARKING PROCESS. THIS PREVENTS VEHICLE FROM BEING TURNED OFF. HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER ABOUT A YEAR AGO TO FIX AND THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN IT IS COLD AND IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN. MULTIPLE ACTUATION OF THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE SYSTEM TO SINCE THE SHIFT LEVER IS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE DATE BELOW INDICATES THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, BUT SINCE OWNING THE CAR, IT'S HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES A MONTH WITH THIS LAST WEEK BEING AT LEAST ONCE DAILY.
MY 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT HAD THE SHIFT-TO-PARK ISSUE. MY DEALER, COUGHLIN CHEVROLET, NEWARK, OHIO, TELLS ME THERE IS NO RECALL. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SOME VOLT VINS SHOW A RECALL BUT MINE DOES NOT - YET I HAVE THE PROBLEM.....!
WHEN I PARK MY CAR, I SHIFT IT INTO PARK AND PRESS THE BUTTON TO TURN THE CAR OFF. HOWEVER I THEN GET A MESSAGE ON THE DASH: ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK. BUT IT'S ALREADY IN PARK & I CANNOT SHUT OFF THE CAR.
UPON STARTING THE CAR (AFTER SITTING IN THE SUN WITH WINDOWS UP, SO HOT CABIN), WHEN I SHIFT TO ANY GEAR OUT OF PARK, I GET AN ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE. THE SHIFTER WILL GO TO DRIVE, FOR EXAMPLE, BUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT MOVE THE CAR, AND I HAVE THE MESSAGE TO SHIFT TO PARK. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. BOTH TIMES I ROLLED DOWN WINDOWS, AND TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN TO RESOLVE THIS. AFTER SEVERAL ROUNDS OF THIS, THE CAR DID SHIFT TO DRIVE AND WOULD GO. HOWEVER THE ENGINE IS RUNNING (RATHER THAN ONLY ELECTRIC, AS I USUALLY OPERATE); THE BATTERY GAGE IN CLASSICAL MODE SHOWS A RAPIDLY DECREASING CHARGE, THEN INCREASING, THEN DECREASING - ALSO THE PLACE WHERE IT SHOWS HOW MANY MILES LEFT IN BATTERY IS GREYED OUT AT 0, EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY MAY APPEAR TO BE CHARGED MORE THAN HALF. ALSO, WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT MODES, HOLD MODE IS GRAYED OUT AND I CANNOT ACTIVATE IT. ONCE I ARRIVE AT MY DESTINATION AND TURN THE CAR OFF, PLUG IT IN, NEXT TIME IT TURNS ON AS NORMAL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON FOR ALL THIS, AND DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN RESTARTING A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY THE NEXT DAY.
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE IS PRESENT AND GETTING WORSE. UNABLE TO TURN OFF CAR WHEN IT OCCURS. AS THIS IS COMMON TO THIS MODEL IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS A DIRECT AND GM SHOULD REPAIR AS PART OF A RECALL.
PURCHASED A 2107 VOLT PREMIER WITH 40K MILES IN JULY 2020. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY WITH A "SHIFT TO PARK" WARNING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. SHE WAS ABLE TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND I CAME TO RESCUE HER. AFTER REPEATED ON OFF CYCLES I GOT THE CAR TO MOVE A COUPLE OF MILES WITH SEVERAL "JERKING" MOTIONS WHILE DRIVING THEN IT DIED AGAIN AND I LOST POWER BRAKING (WENT TO MANUAL ONLY). THIS TIME I WAS UNABLE TO "RE-BOOT IT" AND HAD ONSTAR HAVE IT TOWED TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER WHO HAS A "CERTIFIED EV SPECIALIST"
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT ALMOST ALWAYS SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN TRY TO SHUT IT OFF. IT'S ALREADY IN PARK. I SEE ITS KIND OF A COMMON PROBLEM,
FREQUENTLY WHEN TRYING TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE CAR, I WILL RECEIVE A "SHIFT TO PARK" ALERT ON THE DASH. THE CAR IS ALREADY IN "PARK" AND I AM TRYING TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I'VE HAD DIFFICULTY MAKING ADJUSTMENTS (E.G. HITTING THE BRAKE, TRYING TO ADJUST THE SHIFTING MECHANISM) TO GET THE CAR TO RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS ALREADY IN PARK.
SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS IN PARK, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL AND INSTALLED AN UPDATED HARNESS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. BASED ON GOOGLE SEARCHES, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHEVY VOLT.
CAR IS GIVING A MESSAGE SAYING, "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK, WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AND TRYING TO TURN THE CAR OFF. SEARCHING FOR THIS ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVROLET VOLT AND OTHER CHEVROLET MODELS.
AS I WAS DRIVING I RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON THE DRIVER INFO CENTER TO SHIFT IN PARK AND I LOST ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER CONTACTED ONSTAR TO GET VEHICLE TOWED TO NEARBY DEALER. WAS PUSHED BY TWO POLICE OFFICERS TO GET OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON THE TWO LANE HIGHWAY. ONCE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP THE TOW DRIVER SAID I HAVE DRIVE AND REVERSE CAPABILITY AGAIN WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE WHILE PUT ON TOWER. AS I WAS STOPPED ON SIDE OF ROAD MY DRIVER INFO CENTER STATED PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED SO I COULDN'T DRIVE OR REVERSE. CHECK ENGINE WAS ON THAT NIGHT AND THAT MORNING. AT THE DEALERSHIP, NO CODES COULD BE READ BECAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT AWAY.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT IS EXPERIENCING A "SHIFT TO PARK" MALFUNCTION. THE CAR CAN NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. BEFORE REACHING THIS EVENT, WHEN TURNING THE CAR OFF THE MESSAGE "SHIFT TO PARK" APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE SCREEN. THIS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE DAYS BEFORE THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THESE EVENTS OCCURRED WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED AND STATIONARY.
EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS CURRENT 2018 CHEVROLET VOLT RECALL. BOTH OUTBOARD REAR SEATBELTS FAIL TO LOCK IN A WAY THAT A CARSEAT CAN BE INSTALLED. THIS PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED WHILE TRYING TO INSTALL A CAR SEAT FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE MIDDLE REAR SEATBELT WORKS PERFECTLY. THE DATE LISTEN BELOW IS THE DATE THE ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED.
AT SPEED 82 IN BUSY TRAFFIC THE CAR SHOW UP A MESSAGE PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED AND STARTED TO JUMPING AND IT LOSE POWER AT THE SAME TIME ENGINE WAS RAVING AND THE BATTERY START TO DRAIN FAST
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE. WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, THE MESSAGE "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK" APPEARS EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE SHIFTER IS IN PARK POSITION AND CAR APPEARS TO BE IN PARK. BECAUSE OF MESSAGE, THE CAR CANNOT BE LOCKED AND ELECTRONICS REMAIN ON. THIS MESSAGE IS INTERMITTENT AND CAN BE TYPICALLY CLEARED BY WIGGLING THE SHIFTER WHILE PRESSING BRAKE, OR AFTER TURNING IGNITION ON/OFF 1 OR MORE TIMES. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE WIDELY KNOWN BY GM AND OTHER CUSTOMERS, BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED YET.
THE VEHICLE HAS A "SHIFT-TO-PARK" ISSUE THAT IS BECOMING WORSE. WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN PARK AND THE IGNITION BUTTON DEPRESSED TO TURN OFF THE CAR, AN ERROR LIGHT INDICATES "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT-TO-PARK." THE CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF, THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON, AND THE DOORS CAN NOT BE LOCKED. BY PLAYING WITH THE SHIFT LEVER, SOMETIMES FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, THE CAR FINALLY REALIZES IT IS IN PARK.
SHIFT-TO-PARK ISSUE. WHILE IN PARK, CAR SHOWS ERROR "SHIFT-TO-PARK" AND ELECTRICAL PARTS OF THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. AFTER SHIFTING TO DRIVE/LOW AND THEN BACK TO PARK SEVERAL TIMES, IT SENSES THAT THE GEAR IS IN THE PARK LOCATION AND ALLOWS THE CAR TO BE SHUT OFF. HOWEVER, THIS HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME. MOST RECENT ISSUE TOOK OVER 15 MINUTES OF DOING THIS TO GET THE CAR TO REMOVE THE ERROR AND TURN OFF. ISSUE STARTED AROUND 31,000 MILES. CURRENT MILEAGE AS OF THIS WRITING IS 34,000.
CAR WON'T TURN OFF AFTER I SHIFT TO PARK AND DEPRESS THE POWER BUTTON. INSTEAD THE CAR WANTS ME TO SHIFT TO PARK AGAIN. CAR IS STATIONARY.
WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR BY HITTING THE POWER BUTTON, THE CENTER CONSOLE WILL SAY "ACTION REQUIRED. SHIFT TO PARK." THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF UNTIL THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. I AM USUALLY ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS BY PRESSING AND RELEASING THE SHIFT KNOB SEVERAL TIMES AFTER SHIFTING TO PARK. THE ISSUE BEEN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY LATELY. I AM AFRAID IT WILL HAPPEN IN A SITUATION WHERE I MAY NEED TO QUICKLY EXIT THE VEHICLE.
AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AN "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK" ERROR OCCURS. THE CAR IS ALREADY IN "PARK" POSITION. THIS STARTED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND IT GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CAR CANNOT BE TURNED OFF AND DOZENS OF TIMES MUST BE STARTED AND GEAR SHIFTED IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS UNTIL, EVENTUALLY, WILL TURN OFF. MANY COMPLAINTS FOR OTHER GEN 2 VOLT USERS AS DESCRIBED AT:: HTTPS://WWW.SANDIEGOCAN.ORG/2019/11/26/ALERT-2017-CHEVROLET-VOLT-SHIFT-TO-PARK-DEFECT/ SINCE THIS IS NOT A SINGULAR EVENT AND IT IS REPLICATED BY MANY USERS, PLEASE MAKE GM RECALL THE VEHICLE AND PROVIDE A FREE FIX.
AFTER I STOP THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK, AND THEN PRESS "POWER" OFF, I GET AN ALERT ON THE DASHBOARD "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" AND THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS ALREADY IN PARK. THE GEAR SHIFT REQUIRES ADDITIONAL MANIPULATION (TO BE MOVED BACK AND FORTH) BEFORE THE CAR UNDERSTANDS THAT IS IN "PARK".
AFTER CAR IS SHIFTED TO PARK AND IGNITION SWITCH PUSHED TO TURN CAR OFF, DASHBOARD DISPLAYS MESSAGE 'ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK' AND CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF. REPEATED POWERING CAR ON AND OFF, JIGGLING AND MOVING SHIFTER ALL DO NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM, AND CAR WILL NOT ALLOW SHUTOFF.
MY VOLT WILL NOT TURN OFF WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK. I TRY TO TURN OFF THE CAR AN INDICATOR COMES UP AND SAYS IT'S NOT IN PARK AND IT DOES NOT TURN OFF I LOOKED IT UP LOTS OF 2017 V ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED AND IT'S $760 TO FIX WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE THIS CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD
THE HMI (HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE) MODULE, A PRIMARY COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE'S IN-CABIN COMPUTER SYSTEM, CAN FAIL IN A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT WHILE THE CAR IS AT REST OR IN MOTION RESULTING IN THE INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE VEHICLE'S INSTALLED BACK-UP CAMERA. THE 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT HAS VERY POOR REAR VISIBILITY WITHOUT A BACK-UP CAMERA. IF THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO SEE CLEARLY BEHIND THE VEHICLE, AN ACCIDENT IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR.
AFTER SHIFTING TO PARK TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE A SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED AND THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN GARAGE AND PARKING LOTS.
ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK IS DISPLAYED EVERY TIME CAR IS TURNED OFF. MULTIPLE TIMES PRESSING AND RELEASING THE SHIFT LOCK BUTTON ON THE SHIFT LEVER WHILE ALSO SWITCHING GEAR POSITIONS DOES FIX THE PROBLEM FOR NOW. IT APPEARS TO GET WORSE WITH TIME.
WHEN I SHIFT TO PARK IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT. THE JUST STAYS ON. I HAVE A SERIOUS "SHIFT TO PARK" ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE JANUARY OF 2020. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 20 TIMES OVER THE PAST 8 MONTHS AND SEEMS TO BE MORE FREQUENTLY.
WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK AND TURNING OFF THE CAR, THE CAR WON'T TURN OFF AND AN ERROR ON DASH DISPLAYS "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. CHEVROLET CLAIMS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND REQUIRES A COST TO FIX.
'SHIFT TO PARK' MESSAGE APPEARS SOMETIMES WHEN TRYING TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. HAVE TO PRESS THE START/STOP BUTTON NUMEROUS TIMES UNTIL IT TURNS OFF EVENTUALLY.
CAR ALERT "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN TRYING TO TURN OFF CAR. HAVE TO SHIFT TO DRIVE THEN BACK TO PARK FOR THE CAR TO REGISTER IT'S IN PARK
THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT TO PARK AND SHUT OFF. THE SHIFTER IS NOT MAKING CONTACT WITH THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER IT IS IN THE PARK POSITION. IT TAKES MULTIPLE TRIES TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. GM NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER FOR ALL VOLT OWNERS.I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 6/27/20 AND THEY REPLACED A WIRING HARNESS WHICH DID NOTHING.
THE 2017 VOLT, WHEN PUT INTO PARK, DOES NOT DETECT IT'S IN PARK AND GIVES A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. I CANNOT LEAVE THE CAR. I AM STUCK ROLLING THE CAR FORWARD AND BACK MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY REGISTERS IT'S IN PARK AND TURNS OFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTANTLY AND UNPREDICTABLY. I READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN AND WIDESPREAD ISSUE IN THE 2017 VOLT THAT GM IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS. THEY ARE ALSO REFUSING TO COVER IT UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGHT SHIFTING IS PART OF THE PROPULSION SYSTEM. I HAVE MISSED MEETINGS BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LEAVE MY CAR. I FEAR BEING STRANDED WITH A CAR THAT WON'T TURN OFF. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING REGULARLY BUT UNPREDICTABLY FOR ALL OF SUMMER 2020.
WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTED INTO PARK THE CAR WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR HAS BEEN PUT IN PARK. ONCE THE MESSAGE APPEARS YOU CAN NOT TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT SOMETIMES REQUIRES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OF SHIFTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE BACK INTO PARK OVER AND OVER UNTIL THE CAR WILL RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK. THE PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY SOMETIMES WITH EVERY CYCLE
SHIFTER PROBLEM -- WHEN YOU SHIFT TO PARK, CAR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK AND WILL NOT LET YOU TURN CAR OFF. CAR REGISTERS ERROR MESSAGE "YOU MUST SHIFT TO PARK" EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE ALREADY IN PARK.
THE PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY SOMETIMES WITH EVERY CYCLE ON THE ENGINE FOUR TIMES STRAIGHT AND SOMETIMES IT WILL GO THE SAME NUMBER OF CYCLES WITHOUT OCCURRING. I HAVE HAD POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE SINCE APRIL 2020 AND THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN AT LEAST 20% OF MY DRIVE CYCLES.
CAR IS NOT TURNING OFF WHEN STOPPED. DISPLAYS "ACTION REQUIRED" SHIFT TO PARK. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN AROUND AND CHEVROLET HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM.
WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR (BY PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND PUSHING THE POWER BUTTON), I RECEIVE AN ERROR - 'SHIFT TO PARK'. AFTER I POWER OFF THE CAR, I GET AN ALERT ON MY DASHBOARD THAT SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK".
SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE APPEARS WHEN YOU SHIFT TO PARK AND YOU TURN OFF THE ENGINE. SO EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN PARK THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OFF. VERY FRUSTRATING!
SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE. WHEN I PLACE THE CARE IN PARK A WARNING COMES ON STATING 'ACTION REQUIRED' AND WON'T SHUT OFF. I HAVE TO SHIFT TO DRIVE AND BACK A FEW TIMES FOR IT TO GO OFF.
AFTER DRIVING AND WHEN STOPPED, WHEN CAR IS PLACED IN PARK, THERE IS A NOTICE ON THE DASH THAT STATES, "ACTION REQUIRED" "SHIFT TO PARK", EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR INDICATOR SHOWS THE CAR IS INDEED IN PARK. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE CAR WON'T SHUT OFF AND SENDS OUT WARNING BEEPS FROM THE HORN. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS IN PARK OR NOT, AND DOES NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS SECURE FROM ROLLING.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT IS EXPERIENCING THE APPARENTLY INFAMOUS 'SHIFT TO PARK' ISSUE. NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TIME I PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO POWER DOWN THE VEHICLE. A MESSAGE POPS UP ON THE DISPLAY THAT SAYS 'ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK.' I THEN HAVE TO DEPRESS THE TRIGGER MECHANISM ON THE GEAR SHIFT AND JIGGLE THE WHOLE SHIFTER BEFORE THE CAR REGISTERS IT IS IN PARK AND POWERS DOWN PROPERLY. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG MULTIPLE CHEVY CARS BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. MY CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE 'BUMPER TO BUMPER' WARRANTY, SO IT WILL COST A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT MY FAULT. WHILE I AM NOT AWARE OF ANYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH SHIFTING TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN PARK, IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT THIS MECHANISM IS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY. IF SOMEONE ELSE WERE TO DRIVE MY CAR AND NOT REALIZE THEY NEED TO JIGGLE THE SHIFTER, THEY MIGHT LEAVE MY CAR ON AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. EVERY SINGLE TIME I TAKE THIS TO GET AN OIL CHANGE OR OTHER MISC SERVICE, I HAVE TO SHOW THE TECHNICIAN HOW TO GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF. THIS ISSUE IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND WELL KNOWN. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF THE SHIFT MECHANISM SO THAT ALL OF US CAN FEEL SAFE AND REASSURED WHILE DRIVING.
MUST SHIFT TO PARK; CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF. ALREADY IN PARK, AND PUSHED VERY HARD TO MAKE ELECTRICAL CONTACT. SHIFT OUT AND BACK TO PARK SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE CONTACT AND ALLOW CAR TO SHUT OFF. AT FIRST, ONLY ONCE A WEEK, NOW ALMOST EVERY DAY.
VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF WHILE IN PARK AND A 'SHIFT TO PARK' NOTICE IS DISPLAYED. VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE SHIFTED IN AND OUT OF PARK SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT TO REGISTER. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS BULLETIN # 19-NA-206 ISSUED - A RECALL SHOULD BE MANDATORY AS THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE LEFT RUNNING UNATTENDED. IT IS A VIOLATION OF CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE 22515(A) NO PERSON DRIVING, OR IN CONTROL OF, OR IN CHARGE OF, A MOTOR VEHICLE SHALL PERMIT IT TO STAND ON ANY HIGHWAY UNATTENDED WITHOUT FIRST EFFECTIVELY SETTING THE BRAKES THEREON AND STOPPING THE MOTOR THEREOF.
I'M GETTING A SHIFT TO PARK ERROR ON MY DISPLAY WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK, EVEN THOUGH ON THE DISPLAY, IT SHOWS THE CAR IS IN PARK. I'VE GOT TO WIGGLE THE SHIFTER FOR A BIT FOR IT TO RECOGNIZE THE CAR IS IN PARK. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2017 VOLT.
I PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, IT DOESN'T SHUT OFF. IT ANNOUNCES "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD. EVEN I'VE ALREADY SHIFTED INTO PARK. THIS STARTED OUT HAPPENING ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK, BUT NOW IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY DAY.
THERE IS A "SHIFT TO PARK" WARNING THAT POPS UP ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE CAR OFF WHILE IN PARK. WARNING DOES NOT ALLOW CAR TO TURN OFF. PUTTING ON PARKING BREAK DOES NOT CAUSE WARNING TO GO AWAY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS WARNING HAS POPPED UP IN THE 2 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. THE SHIFTER WAS ALREADY REPLACED ONCE AND ONLY SEEMS TO BE A TEMPORARY FIX.
BECM FAILURE. 1) SHIFT INTO PARK MESSAGE DISPLAYED. 2) FAILURE TO CHARGE, ORANGE LIGHT DISPLAYED. 3) SWITCH TO GAS WITH INTERMITTENTLY WITH BATTERY CAPACITY EXISTING. ERRATIC/FLUCTUATING BATTERY LEVELS DISPLAYED. 4) FAILURE TO DRIVE. 5) AC FAILURE.
I AM NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT. I JUST GOT IT USED LAST FALL (2019) AND HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN1 YEAR. WHEN I HIT THE ON/OFF BUTTON MY CAR STATES SHIFT TO PARK ALTHOUGH I AM IN PARK. IT STARTED OUT ONLY HAPPENING HERE AND THERE IN FEB 2020 AND NOW ITS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR. IT'S ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS MY CAR HAS TO JUST BE LEFT ON AT TIMES IN MY GARAGE OR AT WORK SINCE CANT SIT AND WAIT FOR FOR IT TO WAN TO SHUT OFF. .IN ORDER TO FIX IT WILL COST ME ALMOST 1K AND THIS ISSUE JUST HAPPENS TO START RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I HAVE SEEMS SO MANY OTHER VOLT OWNERS ( HUNDRED IS NOT THOUSANDS) WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND READY MANY FORUMS DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE. I'M SHOCKED THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET.
SHIFT TO PARK PROBLEMS. ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GO INTO PARK WHEN THE SHIFTER IS IN PARK. I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE TO PARK. I HAVE TO EITHER START THE CAR, SHIFT INTO DRIVE, THEN BACK TO PARK, OR I SHAKE THE SHIFTER UNTIL IT ACKNOWLEDGES THE PARK.
AFTER YOU POWER OFF YOUR CAR, YOU'LL GET AN ALERT ON YOUR DASHBOARD THAT STATES "ACTION REQUIRED" "SHIFT TO PARK". I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON FORUMS AS SUCH. IN SOME CASES SELF RESOLVES WITH A LITTLE SHAKE IN THE SHIFTER. IN OTHER CASES TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO ENGAGE PROPERLY. THIS IS ON GOING AND SEEMS TO BE INCREASING IN FREQUENCY.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE A WARNING AND ALARM PERIODICALLY COMES UP THAT THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE SHIFTED INTO PARK EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALREADY IN PARK IT SOMEHOW DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AND PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM BEING TURNED OFF. RESTARTING AND SHUTTING BACK DOWN WILL EVENTUALLY CLEAR THE ISSUE OR SOMETIMES JUST "TAPPING" THE SHIFTER IN THE DIRECTION OF PARK SEEMS TO CLEAR THE ALARM
DASH BOARD DISPLAYS 'SHIFT TO PARK' ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS IN PARK ALREADY. THE ENERGY MARKER APPEARS FULL ALTHOUGH 0MILES REMAIN, AFTER 'AFTER SHIFT TO PARK' APPEARS CAR STAYS STATIONARY AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE NOR REVERSE. ENGINE DOES NOT START WHEN THE HOOD IS OPEN AND CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO LOSES POWER AND DOES NOT MOVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL.
AFTER PUTTING MY VOLT IN TO PARK AND TRYING TO TURN OFF THE CAR, A MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED STATING THAT THE CAR MUST FIRST BE PUT IN TO PARK. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND SHIFT IN AND OUT OF PARK TO CLEAR THIS MESSAGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIME TO THIS CAR IN THE PAST WEEK. *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT SHUT OFF STATING MUST SHIFT TO PARK WHEN IT IS IN PARK.
SHIFT TO PARK DEFECT. KNOWN ISSUE, MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ALREADY FILED.
WHEN I STOP THE CAR AND SHIFT TO PARK, I GET A MESSAGE ON THE CENTER CONSOLE THAT SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN I TRY TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I HAVE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT HANDLE AROUND IN ORDER FOR IT TO REGISTER AS PARKED. *TR
ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK APPEARS ON THE DASH WHEN I ALREADY HAVE THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO SHUT IT OFF. THIS DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF OR LOCK IT AND I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE SENSOR TO READ. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES TO GET IT TO STOP. IT MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE TO BE IN MY CAR WHEN THE CAR DOES NOT READ THAT IT'S PARKED CORRECTLY, ESPECIALLY IF I AM PARKED AND CAN'T GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF. *TR
WHEN MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LAG TO GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WITH THE WHEELS BEING POWERED BY THE ELECTRIC ENGINE, THE RESPONSE HAD ALWAYS BEEN INSTANT, UNTIL TODAY. AFTER ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DASH READ "SHIFT TO PARK," EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN PARK.I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO DRIVE, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT PROPEL THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. I AGAIN SHIFTED TO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR BACK UP, AND THE FUEL ENGINE TURNED ON THIS TIME, BUT I RECEIVED A MESSAGE SAYING THE CAR WAS NOT CHARGING. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF, AS IT USUALLY DOES AFTER THE BATTERIES ARE SUFFICIENTLY CHARGED. I DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES ON SURFACE STREETS AND THE FUEL ENGINE REMAINED ON THE ENTIRE TIME. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF LAG IN RESPONSE TIME BETWEEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BATTERIES CHARGING UP ENOUGH TO PROPEL THE CAR, CAUSING AN UNSAFE RESPONSE TIME IN MERELY GETTING THE VEHICLE GOING AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT AND TURNING ONTO A NEW STREET.
SHIFT ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTION. I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT IT WON'T. IT STATES THAT MY CAR NEED TO BE PUT IN PARK WHEN IT ALREADY IS IN PARK. IT DOES THIS INTERMITTENTLY. MANY VOLTS AND MALIBU HAS THIS PROBLEM AND REPORTED ONLINE AND TO YOU GUYS. PLEASE HAVE GM PUT OUT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT IS HAVING AN ISSUE OF NOT LETTING ME SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. IT SAYS ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK. UNFORTUNATELY, IT'S ALREADY IN PARK AND WILL NOT LET ME SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. TODAY IT DIDN'T LET ME SHUT IT OFF EVEN AFTER SHIFTING IT TO A GEAR THEN BACK, WIGGLING THE SHIFTER, I EVEN TRIED TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH THE KEYS AND IT WAS STILL ON WHEN I WENT BACK OUT. (I HAD LOCKED THE DOOR WITH THE REMOTE). AND THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. I GOT IN THE CAR AND BACKED IT OUT AND TRIED IT AGAIN AND THANKFULLY THIS TIME THAT WORKED. THIS IS TRULY A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND IT LOOKS LIKE OTHER ARE EXPERIENCING IT, TOO. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT ONLY GETS WORSE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING SO THIS DEFECT IS RECALLED. *TR
CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF, SHIFT LEVER WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO GO INTO PARK TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
SHIFT TO PARK NOT RECOGNIZED AND CAR WON'T TURN OFF. TAKES MANY TRIES OF STARTING CAR AND TURNING OFF TO FINALLY GET CAR TO POWER DOWN. MANY TIMES I LEAVE IT RUNNING WHILE I GO IN STORE AS I DON'T HAVE TIME TO JACK WITH SHIFTER OVER AND OVER AGAIN. *TR
MY VOLT PRODUCES AN ERROR MESSAGE: "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" AFTER PLACING THE CAR IN PARK AND TAPPING THE POWER BUTTON. AS A RESULT, I CANNOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A SERIES OF TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF AGAIN WHILST SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH FROM DRIVE TO PARK. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS EXTRA ACTION WILL ONE DAY PRODUCE AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION INTO A PERSON OR STRUCTURE THAT MAY CAUSE DEATH, DAMAGE OR DISMEMBERMENT TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. I'VE FOUND NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE THAT THE ISSUES STEMS FROM A KNOWN PROBLEM INVOLVING THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY BUT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGING A $160 DIAGNOSTICS FEE THAT MAY INCREASE BASED ON THE ISSUES AT HAND, WHICH I DECLINED. I'VE MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS HEAVILY CATALOGUED ON GM FORUMS AND MY SERVICE ADVISOR AGREED BUT MENTIONED THEY ONLY OFFER NO COST REPLACEMENTS WHEN THE ISSUES HAPPENS UNDER 36K MILES AND I AM AT 44K MILES. A RECALL SHOULD BE INITIATED FOR THE REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE. *TR
WITH THE VEHICLE STATIONARY AND IN PARK WHEN I TRY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE A MESSAGE COMES ON THE SCREEN THAT SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN PARK. IT DOES NOT LET YOU TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN I SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TRY TO TURN IT OFF, IT REFUSES TO TURN OFF AND SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" THIS IS ANNOYING AS THE CAR IS ALREADY CLEARLY IN PARK. THIS HAS STARTED TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME I TRY TO PARK. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT GM REFUSES TO OFFER A RECALL ON. WELL, I AM JUST GOING TO KEEP REPORTING THE ISSUE UNTIL THEY DO. *TR
GM IS FAILING TO KEEP SUPPLY OF PARTS FOR DISCONTINUED CHEVROLET VOLT. NO ELECTRICAL ENGINE HARNESS AVAILABLE FOR THIS VEHICLE. THIS DATES BACK TO PRE-COVID 19 SHUTDOWN. PARTS IN SHORTAGE 84082861 84034291. *TR
SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE WHEN TURNING OFF CAR. CHECK THE FORUMS VERY COMMON ISSUE. RECALL SHOULD BE MANDATED.
THE SHIFT TO PARK SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. EVEN THOUGH CAR IS SHIFTED TO PARK ALREADY, CAR DOES NOT SENSE IT AND IS NOT ABLE TO BE TURNED OFF. ONE WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE THE SHIFTER AROUND VIGOROUSLY IN ORDER TO GET IT TO SENSE IT. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY. *TR
ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS, THE CAR SIGNALS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN IT IS IN PARK. THIS WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO LOCK THE CAR OR LEAVE MY CAR. THIS SEEMS UNSAFE TO ME. ON ONE OCCASION IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO EVEN TURN OFF MY CAR. THE TIME IT TAKES FOR THE SIGNAL TO GO AWAY HAS VARIED, BUT IT ALWAYS ENTAILS HAVING TO CHANGE GEARS OR DRIVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD A LITTLE BIT. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN IDLE POSITION, AT HOME, ON STREETS, IN MALL PARKING LOTS, MANY VARIOUS LOCATIONS. *TR
WHEN I SHIFT MY CAR INTO PARK AND PUSH THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF, A MESSAGE DISPLAYS ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER TO "SHIFT TO PARK" AND THE CAR DOES NOT LET ME TURN IT OFF. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THROUGH GOOGLING I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER GEN 2 VOLT OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHEN I MENTIONED IT TO MY SERVICE WRITER AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY KNEW THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SHIFT LINKAGE/WIRING HARNESS BUT REFUSE TO FIX IT DESPITE BEING A KNOWN COMMON ISSUE. *TR
MESSAGE DISPLAYING SHIFT TO PARK WHEN IN PARK (SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE). SEE SERVICE BULLETIN 18-NA-297. EVEN THOUGH THE VOLT IS NOT PART OF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN, THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRING. THE PROBLEM IS NOT OCCURRING EVERY TIME, BUT IS GETTING MORE FREQUENT. *TR
FOR THE PROPULSION MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING IT OCCASIONALLY SLOWS DOWN OR SPEEDS UP KIND OF LIKE A BUCKING HORSE. FOR THE ELECTRICAL THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY TO MY CELL PHONE AND ALSO MY FOB OFTEN DISCONNECT AND THEN I CAN'T LOCK OR UNLOCK MY CAR. FOR THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE A SHIFT TO PARK PROBLEM THAT LOCKS MY CAR AND I CAN'T SWITCH GEARS OR TURN THE CAR ON OR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN IT ALL OF A SUDDEN TURNS BACK ON BUT THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN IT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK IT IS ACTUALLY IN THE PARK POSITION. *TR
WHEN I WOULD PUT MY CAR IN PARK, THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AND I THOUGHT I WASN'T PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, OR I THOUGHT MAYBE I DID SOMETHING ELSE WRONG. IT WAS FRUSTRATING AS I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY. THEN ONE DAY 'I WAS SO FRUSTRATED , I SLAMMED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK AND IT ACTUALLY TURNED OFF. THAT WAS AN 'AH HA' MOMENT. SHORTLY AFTER THAT I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY CAR CHECKED FOR THE PROBLEM. THAT'S WHEN I GOT UPSET'THE GUY SAYS 'OH,IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TO THIS MODEL'. SO THEN MY HUSBAND SAYS'SHOULDN'T YOU PAY FOR IT IF IT'S A KNOWN DEFECT. THE SERVICE ENGINEER SAYS IT'S NOT STILL ON WARRANTY AND IS NOT A RECALL. SO WE PAID THE $500.00 TO GET IT FIXED. BUT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL- IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE NOW THAT I KNOW THE CAR WAS NOT TURNED OFF MANY TIMES'SOMETIMES I ONLY KNEW IT WASN'T OFF BECAUSE MY RADIO WOULD PLAY WHEN I LOCKED THE DOOR'AND THE DOOR WOULDN'T LOCK. THIS SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE ON THE HIGHEST LEVEL..I PAID THE MONEY BUT TRULY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY GM BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. SO THEN THE SERVICE GUY SAYS TO CALL GM, EVEN GAVE US THE NUMBER WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE GENERAL MOTORS BUT YOU NEEDED A CUSTOMER CODE SO THAT DID NO GOOD (855-462-2737). SO NOW I'M ASKING YOU GUYS TO LOOK INTO SOMETHING THE SERVICE DEPT AT DELILLO CHEVROLET SAYS 'WE SEE THIS A LOT'. THE PROBLEM WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS IN PARK'IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS IN PARK BUT IT WASN'T. THEY CALLED IT: SWITCH IN SHIFTER CONTACTS NOT SENDING SIGNAL TO BODY CONTROL MODULE. SO THAT'S MY STORY, AS FRUSTRATING AS IT WAS. MY CAR NOW SHUTS OFF ON A REGULAR BASIS. I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THE NEXT PERSON WHO CAN'T SHUT OFF THEIR CAR!!! *TR
COMMONLY KNOWN ONLINE AS THE "SHIFT-TO-PARK" ISSUE, WHEN THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO PARK THE VEHICLE BY SLIDING THE SHIFT MECHANISM INTO PARK THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE POSITION AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. A MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE DASH DISPLAY INSTRUCTING "ACTION REQUIRED....SHIFT TO PARK." VEHICLE IS STATIONARY ON LEVEL GROUND. PROBLEM BEGAN AS INTERMITTENT, BUT CONTINUES TO BECOME MORE FREQUENT. *TR
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT HAS AN ISSUE WHEN I SHIFT TO PARK AND PRESS THE OFF BUTTON THE CAR WONT TURN OFF AND THE DASH READS SHIFT TO PARK. THE CAR IS IN PARK SO I HAVE TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH MANY TIMES BEFORE THE CAR FINALLY KNOWS ITS IN PARK. VERY UNSAFE HAVING A CAR THAT WONT TURN OFF. PLEASE FORCE GM TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS. ITS A KNOWN ISSUE. *TR
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE TELLING ME TO "SHIFT TO PARK" HOWEVER, THE SHIFT SELECTOR IS ALREADY IN PARK, THE CAR IS JUST FAILING TO DETECT IT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS CAR. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. IT APPEARS THE SHIFT SELECTOR SENSOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR FAILS OVER TIME. *TR
AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK I RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAYING THAT THE CAR MUST BE SHIFTED INTO PARK BEFORE IT WOULD BE POWERED DOWN. I WAS UNABLE TO POWER DOWN THE CAR. THIS IS KNOWN AS THE "SHIFT TO PARK ISSUE." THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. *TR
AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND I PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, IT DOESN'T COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IT ANNOUNCES I MUST "SHIFT TO PARK" EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALREADY SHIFTED INTO PARK. NEXT COMES A SERIES OF TURNING THE CAR ON/OFF AGAIN, UNTIL EVENTUALLY THE CAR SHUTS OFF PROPERLY. I HAVE THIS ON VIDEO IF NEEDED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT MANY PEOPLE ONLINE HAVE DESCRIBED. HTTPS://WWW.SANDIEGOCAN.ORG/2019/11/26/ALERT-2017-CHEVROLET-VOLT-SHIFT-TO-PARK-DEFECT/ *TR
SHIFT TO PARK ERROR THAT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT. IT WILL GIVE YOU A "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" ON THE DISPLAY WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TURN OFF THE CAR. I'VE SEEN PEOPLE CALL IT REPLACING BECM OR REPLACING THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY.THIS PROBLEM IS ONLY CONSIDERED COVERED IN THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, EVERY VOLT HAS THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY GM AND FULLY COVERED. THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT REQUIRES ME TO PAY AN $145 INSPECTION FEE JUST TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM.
ENGINE WILL NOT SHUT OFF. 'SHIFT TO PARK' MESSAGE COMES ON IN INFORMATION AREA OF INSTRUMENTS DESPITE VOLT ALREADY IN PARK. REPEATED SHIFTING OUT OF PARK AND BACK EVENTUALLY AFTER MULTIPLE TIMES ALLOWS FOR CAR TO TURN OFF. STARTED ONLY OCCASIONALLY TO HAPPEN ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO AND NOW HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON EVENT FOR VOLT 2017 AND EARLIER AND OTHER CHEVY MODELS AND NEEDS A RECALL. I HAD TO LEAVE CAR RUNNING ON TWO OCCASIONS.
SHIFT TO PARK EVEN AFTER FACTORY CORRECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON SHIFTING THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, A WARNING MESSAGE FLASHED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH STATED ACTION REQUIRED, SHIFTER NOT IN PARK. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CAPITOL CHEVROLET (905 CAPITOL EXPRESSWAY AUTO MALL, SAN JOSE, CA 95136) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE EXPERIENCED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
EXPERIENCING THE DREADED "SHIFT TO PARK: ACTION REQUIRED" ERROR THAT SEEMS TO PLAGUE THIS MODEL. THE CAR WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE GEARS ARE BEING SHIFTED AND IS COMPLETELY STATIONARY. CAR IS NOW STUCK IN A PARKING LOT AND WILL NOT START AND HAS TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER!
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE IS PLACED INTO PARK AND POWER OFF BUTTON PUSHED. CAR DOES NOT TURN OFF AND A WARNING MESSAGE "ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK" DISPLAYS ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN PARK WHEN THIS MESSAGE COMES UP AND SHOWS THE "P" IN THE UPPER RIGHT OF DASHBOARD HIGHLIGHTED WITH THE RED BACKGROUND.
IT IS THE "SHIFT TO PARK" PROBLEM. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF BECAUSE IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN IT IS IN PARK. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR MORE THAN A WEEK AND MAY BE REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE MICROSWITCH OR F-HARNESS RELATED TO THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY. THIS CONDITION HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY UPON ATTEMPTING TO TURN IT OFF.
"SHIFT TO PARK" DEFECT. WHEN THE SHIFTER IS PLACED INTO THE "PARK" POSITION AND THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AN INDICATOR STATES "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK". THE CAR WILL EFFECTIVELY NOT TURN OFF. ONE IS UNABLE TO LOCK THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW MINUTES. WORSE YET, THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT GETS WORSE OVER TIME. THE POWER MUST BE TURNED ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES, OR THE SHIFTER MOVED FROM PARK TO LOW A SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE SHIFTER TO ENGAGE IN "PARK". AS THE PROBLEM GET WORSE OVER TIME IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW IF THE CAR OFF AT ALL. THE PROBLEM BEGAN ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. A YEAR LATER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED, AND AT THAT POINT THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM (APPARENTLY BECAUSE BY THEN THE FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM AND THE FIX). NOW, A YEAR LATER, THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED. BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER IN THE WARRANTY PERIOD I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THIS ISSUE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS MANY 2016 AND 2017 VOLTS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM. IT IS QUITE DANGEROUS TO NOT BE ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND NOT KNOW IF IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO DO SO. MINE BECAME SO BAD ONE TIME THAT I CALLED A TOW SERVICE, BUT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE CAR. CHEVY IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT'S APPALLING THAT VOLT OWNERS ARE LEFT TO DEAL WITH THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND THAT THERE APPEARS TO NOT BE A PERMANENT FIX (AS MINE IS NOW HAPPENING A SECOND TIME). GM MUST ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM. IT IS UNSAFE! REGARDING THE REQUIRED "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?" QUESTION BELOW - THERE IS NO SPECIFIC DATE. IT'S AN ONGOING PROBLEM. I PUT IN THE APPROXIMATE DATE THAT THE PROBLEM STARTED.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT GIVES ME 'SERVICE AIRBAG' WARNING ALL THE TIME. AND THE DEALER SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE CAR HAS NEVER MET WITH ANY ACCIDENTS OR SPILLS. SO THERE IS NO REASON FOR CUSTOMER DAMAGE. I SEE THAT THE SAME ISSUE WAS BEEN RAISED BY MANY UNDER PE19013. SO I WOULD WANT GM TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT RATHER THAN SAYING IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER W
THE SOFTWARE CONTROLLING THE REAR CAMERA, NAVIGATION AND MAIN BATTERY FAILED. THE SYSTEMS BECAME UNUSABLE (THE SCREEN BECAME BLACKED OUT SO THE REAR CAMERA ETC COULD NOT BE USED). ONCE THE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED IT WORKS FINE. CHEVY CHARGED US FOR THE COST OF THIS EVEN THOUGH WE FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM FOUND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE
I PURCHASED MY USED 17 CHEVY VOLT 2 MONTHS AGO. SUDDENLY MY CAR STARTED HAVING INTERMEDIATE ISSUES OF SHOWING "SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN THE VEHICLE IS CLEARLY IN PARK MODE. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SHUT OFF. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT GM BUT THEY CLAIM THERE ARE NO RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETINS FOR MY VIN/VEHICLE. THERE ARE COUNTLESS ONLINE COMPLAINTS FROM 17 VOLT OWNERS SHOWING THE SAME ISSUE (THIS IS ALSO OCCURRING WITH OTHER GM MODELS & I AM ALSO SEEING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE). GM IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS DEFECT & HAS ONLY ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS ON SOME VIN # - WHILE THEY SHOULD HAVE CAUSE - BASED ON NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS - THAT THIS IMPACT IS OCCURRING WITH THE MAJORITY OF 17 VOLTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN A 3,794 LBS VEHICLE CANNOT BE SHUT OFF. I AM ASKING THAT NHTSA ISSUE A RECALL IN REGARDS TO 2017 CHEVY VOLTS & THE "SHIT TO PARK" ISSUE. WHILE THIS IS AN INTERMEDIATE ISSUE AND SOME DAYS MY CAR SHUTS OF FINE WHILE OTHERS IT TAKES MOVING THE SHIFTER BACK BETWEEN GEARS IN ORDER FOR THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT TO RECOGNIZE IT'S PARKED - I WILL TRY TO CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER FOR HELP BUT I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT TO PUT GM & NHTSA ON NOTICE REGARDING THIS WELL KNOWN DEFECT THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED AND COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. GM SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WHICH IS WELL DOCUMENTED - BY PROVIDING A RECALL. PLEASE SEE THESE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR GM ON VARIOUS MODELS SHOWING "SHIFT TO PARK": HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/NEWS/2018/GMC-ACADIA-SHIFT-TO-PARK-ISSUES-LAWSUIT.SHTML HTTPS://WWW.REDDIT.COM/R/VOLT/COMMENTS/8ET2NW/ACTION_REQUIRED_SHIFT_TO_PARK/ HTTPS://ABC6ONYOURSIDE.COM/ON-YOUR-SIDE/WESTERVILLE-FAMILY-IN-LIMBO-AS-GM-LEAVES-THEM-IN-DARK-OVER-SHIFT-TO-PARK-ISSUE HTTPS://WWW.CRUZETALK.COM/THREADS/SHIFT-TO-PARK-LOCK-PROBLEM.51401/ HTTPS://REPAIRPAL.COM/CANNOT-TURN-OFF-2016-VOLT-ACTION-REQUIRED-SHIFT-TO-PARK-522
SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE CONSISTENTLY APPEARING PREVENTING THE CAR FROM EFFECTIVELY TURNING OFF WHEN CAR IS SHIFTED TO PARK.
MY VOLT WAS T-BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR BY A RED LIGHT RUNNER. I HAD JUST STARTED TO ENTER INTO THE INTERSECTION A SECOND OR SO AFTER MY LIGHT TURNED GREEN, SO NOT GOING VERY FAST. THE OTHER CAR WAS GOING 25-35 MPH (APPROX.). THIS WAS ON A CITY STREET, BOTH ONE WAYS STREETS SO THAT DRIVER WAS ABLE TO BUILD UP SOME MOMENTUM. I WAS PUSHED INTO THE CAR TO MY LEFT (DRIVER'S SIDE). THE DAMAGE WAS ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE CAR. THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT DEPLOYED.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT HAS AN ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM . IT WILL ONLY WORK WHEN IT WANTS TO BUT WHAT MAKE IT SO DANGEROUS IS THAT IF YOU GET IT TO ENGAGE IT WILL RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING DISENGAGE ITSELF. IF YOU ARE USING THE 2017 VOLT IN THE LOW GEAR MODE AND THIS HAPPENS THE CAR WILL RAPIDLY DECELERATE WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HAS ALMOST CAUSE THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME TO RUN INTO ME. I HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS FIXED SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT SEEMS NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH IT AND THEY WILL TRY BUT IT JUST GOES RIGHT BACK TO DOING IT AGAIN.
AFTER I SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND PRESS THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR, A WARNING COMES UP AND SAYS "SHIFT TO PARK." I CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR UNTIL THE MESSAGE CLEARS. THE MESSAGE IS CLEARED BY GIGGLING THE SHIFTER (ALREADY IN PARK) BACK AND FORTH. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I TURN OFF THE CAR NOW. AFTER A SHORT GOOGLE SEARCH, MANY OTHER 2017 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE LOOK INTO ISSUING A RECALL.
WHEN BUCKLING MY 5 YEAR OLD SON INTO HIS BOOSTER SEAT, THE REAR SEATBELT ALWAYS BECOMES WEDGED IN A CAVITY OF THE REAR SEAT. THIS ALSO OCCURS IF MY SON MOVES WHILE WE ARE IN TRANSIT. THIS CAUSES THE SEATBELT TO FAIL TO RETRACT PROPERLY AND THUS HE IS NOT PROPERLY SECURED. I AM AFRAID NOT ONLY FOR HIS SAFETY BECAUSE THE SEATBELT IS NOT SECURING HIS TORSO PROPERLY. ADDITIONALLY, FROM THIS OCCURRING FREQUENTLY, I AM AFRAID THAT WEAR ON THE SEATBELT (FRAY) WILL COMPROMISE THE SEATBELT MATERIAL CAUSING IT TO FAIL IF EVER IN A CRASH.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREET. MESSAGE SAYING "SERVICE POWER STEERING" CAME UP, CAD ONLY HAS 28K MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. DEALER SAYS I MUST REPLACE ENTIRE STEERING ASSEMBLY. MULTIPLE PEOPLE ONLINE HAVING MY SAME PROBLEM, ALL UNDER 30K MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN LATCH FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HELD THE STEERING UP IN ORDER FOR THE STEERING COLUMN TO STAY IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE STEERING COLUMN AND CONFIRMED THAT THE LATCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (TITUS-WILL CHEVROLET BUICK GMC CADILLAC 2425 CARRIAGE LOOP SW, OLYMPIA, WA 98502 (888) 528-3416) AND WAS INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 61,368.
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT TO PARK. WILL NOT ALLOW CAR TO SHUT OFF AS IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE CAR IN PARK.
GETTING ALERT 'SHIFT TO PARK', THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF, HAVE TO JIGGLE THE SHIFTER TO GET IT TO RECOGNIZE ITS IN PARK
THE BATTERY CONTROL MODULE FAILED IN MY VOLT ON 12/22/2019. MY CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AS SUCH ON 12/23/19 AND I WAS SENT HOME WITH IT TO WAIT AS GM PARTS ARE ALLEGEDLY SEVERELY DELAYED DUE TO THE UNION STRIKES THAT OCCURRED MONTHS AGO. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE ON MY WAY HOME, AND DRIVING AT 40MPH IN THE LEFT LANE OF A FOUR LANE SURFACE ROAD, I LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER AND RECEIVED A MESSAGE READING 'ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK' ON THE DIC ACCOMPANIED BY A WARNING CHIME. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO NOT BE REAR ENDED AS THE CAR DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY WITHOUT MUCH WARNING. THE CAR WAS CLEARLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TOW TRUCK DID NOT RETRIEVE THE CAR UNTIL 12/30/19 AS THE DEALER FAILED TO RETURN MY CALLS ABOUT THIS FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THE CAR SAT IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL THEY RETRIEVED IT. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED AS OF 1/7/2020.
RECEIVED A WARNING BY AUTOMATED E-MAIL FROM MY CAR THAT CHARGING WAS INTERRUPTED ON MY HYBRID ELECTRIC CAR WHILE CHARGING IN MY GARAGE. NORMAL WEATHER, ATTACHED GARAGE, 220V LEVEL 2 CHARGER. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT I MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN TO CHARGE IT AND DROVE TO WORK. NORMALLY, DYNAMIC BRAKING DOES NOT DO WELL UNTIL A FEW MILES FROM HOME. HOWEVER, WHEN I REACHED THE POINT THAT I SWITCH TO MORE ECOLOGICAL DYNAMIC BRAKING, IT WAS UNABLE TO DUMP THE CHARGE FROM BRAKING TO THE BATTERY. I CONTINUED DRIVING ON GAS AND DISPLAYS WERE UNSTABLE. LOSING DYNAMIC BRAKING IN AN ELECTRICAL VEHICLE IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE (FORMER AUTOMOTIVE RESIDENT ENGINEER AND FAILURE INVESTIGATOR). I DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME AND WAS UNABLE TO RESTART ENGINE. I READ ONLINE THAT IT CANNOT RECHARGE ITS 12V BATTERY SYSTEM IN THIS CONDITION AS WELL AS ITS MOTIVE BATTERY. I HAD TO JUMP THE CAR TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAD MY CAR FOR 10 DAYS AND REPLACED THE BATTERY ELECTRIC CONTROL MODULE (BECM) AND RECHARGED THE CAR AND SENT ME HOME. IT WAS OK FOR A FEW DAYS. I GOT THE SAME ERROR AGAIN ON SUNDAY 1/05AS AN E-MAIL FROM MY CAR WARNING THAT ITS CHARGING HAD DISCONTINUED INDICATING THAT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS OR HAS HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN A WEEK. I REQUEST THAT THE OMB INVESTIGATE FOR RECALL AND REPLACEMENT WITH BECM UPGRADED TO ALLOW CHARGING OF THE 12V BATTERY SYSTEM AS WELL AS INVESTIGATE FAILURE MODES FOR BECM AND REQUIRING THAT THEY BE ADDRESSED. FAILURE MODES, STATIONARY- 12V AND HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY FAIL TO CHARGE WHEN PLUGGED IN. DRIVING - 12V DOES NOT REGENERATE DURING DRIVING AND HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM IS OFFLINE DISABLING SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS DYNAMIC BREAKING CAUSING A BREAKING REACTION CHANGE THAT MAY DELAY DRIVER REACTION LEADING TO VEHICLE ENTERING INTERSECTION INTO A CRASH. I ALSO REQUEST THAT OMB INVESTIGATE THE EARLY FAILURE OF THE 12V BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEM.
AFTER YOU POWER OFF MY CAR, I'LL GET AN ALERT ON MY DASHBOARD THAT SAYS, " ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK" THE CAR WILL EFFECTIVELY NOT TURN OFF. I'LL BE UNABLE TO LOCK THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW MINUTES. WORSE YET, IT IS INTERMITTENT.
BECM FAILURE AT 32,000 MILES. CAR WOULD NOT CHARGE AND WOULD REPORT EV RANGE AS 0 WHEN IT IN FACT DID HAVE RANGE. THE CAR ALSO WOULD NOT MOVE/START RELIABLY LEAVING THE CHANGE OF BEING STRANDED SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY COMPUTER. THE DEALER TRIED TO FIX THE SOFTWARE ON THE BECM BUT IT ENDED UP BEING A FAILED BECM. IT SEEMS VERY COMMON FOR THIS TO FAIL FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE. THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE UNDER THE VOLTEC WARRANTY AND I HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE IN 4+ MONTHS. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A BAD BATCH OR ENGINEERING DEFECT ON THE STOCK BECM.
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ENGAGE 25% OF THE TIME AND WILL DISENGAGE WITHOUT NOTICE. "ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WILL APPEAR IN DIC. HOWEVER, THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY SLOW DOWN. I HAVE FILED CASE # 9-5379585813 WITH CHEVROLET AND BEEN TO FOUR DEALERS AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY NO LONGER RETURN MY CALLS. I AM AFRAID TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GAS ENGINE TURNED ON WHILE THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BATTERY RANGE LEFT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE DOWNHILL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO DRIVE; HOWEVER, THE GEAR SHIFTER DID NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. INSTEAD, THE GEAR SHIFTER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALLEN GWYNN CHEVROLET (LOCATED AT 1400 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91205, 818-528-8597) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND OPENED A CASE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,066.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PEARL MOTOR COMPANY (3100 S CLARK ST, MEXICO, MO 65265, (573) 567-4254) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE KEY FOBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE KEY FOBS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED RELAY WAS FINALLY REPLACED AND PROBLEM SOLVED.*JB
WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE SHIFT SET TO "P", I GET A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS, "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES, SOMETIMES ROUGHLY 6-7 TIMES AND SOMETIMES I WOULD HAVE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN D, N, R, ETC. I HAD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (VAN GMC/CHEVROLET) AND THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER HARNESS WHICH WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. MY VOLT IS CONTINUING TO FLASH THE 'ACTION REQUIRED/SHIFT TO PARK' MESSAGE AND HESITATES TO TURN OFF AND THEN POWERS DOWN.
AFTER DIAGNOSING AN AUDIBLE TICK/CLICK SOUND THAT OCCURS WHETHER THE CAR IS POWERED ON OR OFF BUT STOPS MOMENTARILY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED, I WAS TOLD THE ELECTRIC BRAKE BOOSTER IS BAD AND MUST BE REPLACED. BUT GM HAS NO PARTS AVAILABLE. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR AND IF THE PART FAILS COMPLETELY, I WILL HAVE NO BRAKES AT ALL. IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 WEEKS AND THERE IS NO ETA ON PARTS.
SHIFT-TO-PARK ALERT AFTER YOU POWER DOWN CAR. EFFECTLVELY, THE CAR WON'T TURN OFF. BROUGHT TO GM IN 2018 AND THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER. 18 MONTHS LATER, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. APPEARS TO BE A CHRONIC DEFECT IN THE 2ND GEN VOLT.
I OPENED MY REAR LIFT GATE TO PUT AWAY MY CAR CHARGER AND IT SLAMMED CLOSED ON IT'S OWN. FOR SOME REASON THE REAR LIFT GATE WOULD NOT STAY OPEN UNLESS I HOLD IT UP. I THINK THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU LIFT THE LIFT GATE IT STAYS OPEN ON IT'S OWN. EVERYONE SHOULD BE CAREFUL.
THE SHIFTER SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE TURNED OFF.
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY SURFACE STREET THE VEHICLE LOST ALL PROPULSION AND STALLED. STEERING LOCKED UP, WAS DISABLED, AND ELECTRIC POWER STOPPED. THE WARNING LIGHT READ "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK'. THIS STALL IS IMMEDIATE AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING IN OR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE ORANGE ENGINE SYMBOL WAS ILLUMINATED. ALL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN ON THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALERSHIP BUT WE WERE UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE OR SHIFT IT IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR START BUTTON WOULD NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED RUNNING AND THE BATTERY DISABLED AT THE DEALERSHIP.
MY VOLT HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF PROPULSION AND WARNING "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK" AND WAS IN SERVICE AT MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR 41 DAYS TO SOLVE THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME IT WOULD NO LONGER CHARGE TO 53 MILES ELECTRIC. ON MY LEVEL 1 CHARGER IT HAS CHARGED TO 52 OR 53 MILES SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP ON 1/24/17. THE VEHICLE WILL CHANGE TO 36 - 40 MILES NOW WHICH IS GREATER THAN A 30% LOSS OF ELECTRIC CHARGE. I AM NOT REFERRING TO DRIVING RANGE WHICH VARIES WITH CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR A TOTAL OF 53 DAYS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED ON THE LAST SERVICE VISIT WHERE THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL WERE REPLACED. I AM NOW IN ARBITRATION WITH GM UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW AND THE BBB. I AM REQUESTING A BUYBACK OF THE VEHICLE FOR IMPAIRMENT OF USE, VALUE, AND SAFETY.
WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF PROPULSION AND THE WARNING DISPLAYED "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED".THIS LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE SWITCHED FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS POWER. I HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SWITCHING FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS REGULARLY AND IT SPUTTERS AND BUCKS. AFTER A FEW MILES THE SPUTTERING AND ROUGH CHANGE TO GAS WILL DISSIPATE. ON THIS OCCASION THE POWER LOSS WAS SIGNIFICANT AND DANGEROUS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE POWER OR PROPULSION TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO DIVERT TO CITY STREETS AND GET HOME AT SPEEDS UNDER 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND OUT OF SERVICE FOR 18 DAYS WITH APPROXIMATELY 250 MILES OF ROAD TESTING WHILE IN SERVICE. I NO LONGER BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE TO BE SAFE OR RELIABLE AND AM ENGAGED IN ARBITRATION UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW AND THE BBB.
THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND ALREADY IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF IF IT BELIEVES IT TO BE IN ANY OTHER GEAR OTHER THAN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THE SHIFTER CONTROL AND TRANSMISSION CONTROLS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR 18 DAYS AND ROAD TESTED FOR OVER 250 MILES BY THE TECHNICIANS. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE. I AM IN ARBITRATION WITH GM UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW AND AM REQUESTING A VEHICLE BUYBACK.
ON MY 2ND DAY OF OWNERSHIP WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 50 MILES ON IT THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 5 (4 LANE HIGHWAY) THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING AND LOST ALL PROPULSION AND FORWARD POWER. THE VEHICLE HAD JUST CHANGED FROM ELECTRIC POWER TO GAS POWER. THE WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED WAS "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK". THE ORANGE ENGINE SYMBOL WAS DISPLAYED. THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, ALL DISPLAYS AND CONTROLS WERE TURNED OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE FROM THE 2ND TO FAR RIGHT LANE OF 4 AND GET JUST OFF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH SPACE TO GLIDE THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OFF THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, THE I5 IS THE PRIMARY TRUCKING ROUTE AND IN THIS UPHILL LOCATION ALL SEMI TRUCKS ARE REQUIRED TO DRIVE IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE. MY VEHICLE WAS SWAYED CONTINUOUSLY BY THE LARGE HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES FOR OVER 2 HOURS. A CHP STAYED WITH ME WITH FLASHING LIGHTS TO ATTEMPT TO MOVE VEHICLES TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AFTER 9 HOURS. HOWEVER, I AM NOW IN ARBITRATION WITH GM OVER THE SAME ISSUE "ACTION REQUIRED - SHIFT TO PARK" WITH THE 2ND VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR 95 DAYS OVER AN 8 MONTH PERIOD AND I AM SEEKING A VEHICLE BUYBACK UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW WITH THE BBB FOR IMPAIRMENT OF VALUE, USE, AND SAFELY.
THE BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE FAILED AT ~34K MILES. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND PREVENTED THE CAR FROM USING THE BATTERIES FOR DRIVING. THE FAILURE MADE THE CAR UNUSABLE.
THE SENSING DIAGNOSTIC MODULE FAILED AT ~38K MILES CAUSING THE AIRBAGS TO STOP WORKING. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED.
FAULTY FRONT PROXIMITY SENSOR OR CAMERA RESULTING IN FALSE POSITIVES OF OBJECT IN FRONT OF THE CAR. FALSE WARNING LIGHTS AND WARNING SOUNDS AS IF AN OBJECT IS IN FRONT OF THE CAR WHEN NO OBJECT IS IN SIGHT. USUALLY DURING THE RAIN BUT OCCASIONALLY NOT. OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING LESS THAN 6MPH. HAPPENS AROUND 75% OF THE TIME DURING THE RAIN AND ABOUT 5% OF THE TIME DURING DRY WEATHER.
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE SHIFT SET TO "P", I GET A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS, "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF.
THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT WITHOUT FIXING THIS THE VEHICLE MAY NOT TURN OFF. SINCE IT IS A HYBRID IT MAY THEN TURN ON SILENTLY GENERATING CARBON MONOXIDE. RECENTLY WHEN I STOP AND TURN OFF THE CAR VIA THE DASH PUSH BUTTON SOMETIMES(BUT NOT ALWAYS) THE CONSOLE SAYS "ACTION REQUIRED. SHIFT INTO PARK" EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN PARK. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND DOES NOT SEEM TO BE RELATED TO WHETHER THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN IN PARK, OR HOW VIGOROUSLY THE LEVER WAS SHIFTED TO PARK. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THE PART AND REPAIR ARE NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, OR WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. SINCE I AM AWARE OF MULTIPLE DEATHS RELATED TO INABILITY TO TURN OFF A CAR LEADING TO CARBON MONOXIDE GENERATION, I AM CONCERNED EVEN THOUGH THE MANIFESTATION I HAVE SEEN IS A SPURIOUS WARNING RATHER THAN A FAILURE TO TURN OFF THE CAR. POTENTIALLY THE DEALERSHIP IS WRONG. I CANNOT OTHERWISE OBTAIN ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, ITS SOLUTION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES.
2017 CHEVY VOLT PREMIUM WITH 45,500 MILES WITH FULL ELECTRICAL CHARGE AND 3/4 TANK OF GAS. ON FRIDAY, 08/09/2019 I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY IN A,M, HOURS. VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO REVERSE. MESSAGE WAIT TO SHIFT HAD CLEARED FROM INSTRUMENT DISPLAY. AFTER SHIFTING AND NO RESPONSE IN PROPULSION, DISPLAY SHOWED "SHIFT TO PARK AND DEPRESS BRAKE" AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO REPEATS THE PROCESS. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RE-STARTING I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. NO OTHER PROBLEMS DISPLAYED OR ENCOUNTER DURING REMAINED OF MORNING. VEHICLE STARTED AND SHIFTED AS EXPECTED. IN THE AFTERNOON MY WIFE ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEM AND COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR NOR SHUT IT OFF TO ATTEMPT TO RESTART. AFTER 30 MINUTES AND MULTIPLE CELL PHONE CALLS AND MY SEARCHING THE INTERNET SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO REVERSE AND DRIVE CORRECTLY AS DISPLAYED IN THE STICK SHIFT. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AT THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR EARLIEST APPOINT A WEEK AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND PREPARED FOR THE HOOK IN THE DRIVEWAY. ON MONDAY 08/12/2019 I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO GET IT OUT OF PARK. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP RATHER THAN WAIT TO FOR MORE UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE HAVING IT TOWED ON FRIDAY 08/16/2019. DEALERSHIP. ON TUESDAY, 08/20/2019 DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THEY HAD DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM RELATED TO THE EXHAUST EMISSIONS MODULE AND THAT EFFECTED THE SHIFTING PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE PART. THE COST WERE COVERED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. ON THURSDAY 08/22/2019 I RETRIEVED THE CAR. WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SINCE. SAFETY ISSUES ARE AS MENTIONED ABOVE. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL BY GM / CHEVY FOR THIS ISSUE.
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE SHIFT LEVER SET TO "P", I GET A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS, "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I ACCELERATED TO PASS A VEHICLE, BUT THE ENGINE SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY INSTEAD. A WARNING ABOUT REDUCED POWER SHOWED ON THE DASH. WE BARELY MADE IT TO AN EXIT AND A GAS STATION, AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART, WITH ANOTHER WARNING OF "SERVICE HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING SYSTEM". WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER.. IF WE HAD BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN WE WENT TO PASS THE OTHER VEHICLE, WE COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED - ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK AND IT WOULD HAVE IT IT HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC OR PARKING GARAGE OR ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE MANEUVER. THE CAR IS 3 YRS AND 3 MONTHS OLD WITH APPROX 28,000 EASY MILES- THE FIRST 2017 IN SPOKANE DELIVERED IN 2016 (YES, A 2017 BUILT IN EARLY 2016). THE LT VERSION. HAPPENED AFTER TYPICAL CITY DRIVE ON ALL ELECTRIC IN MODEST TEMPERATURES AND CLEAR WEATHER AND RUNNING ON ELECTRIC. MY WIFE WAS TURNING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING LOCKED BUT I BELIEVE IT JUST TURNED VERY HARD AT LOW SPEED WITH NO POWER ASSIST. NO WARNING. AFTER THIS OCCURRED SHE POWERED DOWN AND POWERED BACK ON THE CAR AND THERE WAS A MESSAGE SAYING "POWER STEERING IS WORKING, DRIVE CAREFULLY" SO CAME IN AND TOLD ME BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WORKING. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, IT RECOVERED IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND WORKED LIKE NORMAL FOR A FEW DAYS NOW. SHE DOES NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE VOLT NOW. FTI ANOTHER SAME MODEL VOLT LT DELIVERED TO LOCAL DEALER IN THE SAME BATCH OF VOLTS, THE THIRD VOLT DELIVERED TO SAME LOCAL DEALER, HAD MANY MANY MORE ISSUES WITH POWER STEERING. I LOVE MY VOLT, AN OTHERWISE GREAT SAFE AND WELL HANDLING CAR.
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, WITH THE SHIFT SET TO "P", I GET A MESSAGE THAT APPEARS, "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF.
I HAVE HAD 3 BLOWOUT AND ONE MORE TIRE THAT HAS HAD SIDE WALL DAMAGE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS 29,289 MILES ON IT. THE 1ST BLOW OUT WAS AT JUST OVER 7,000 MILES. AFTER THE 2ND BLOW OUT ON THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND BEING STRANDED WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE. WHICH MAKES ME WAIT HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK. I PURCHASE BRIDGESTONE DRIVE GUARD RUN FLAT TIRES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 2 MORE OF THESE ONE WAS A BLOW OUT AND THE OTHER WAS SIDE WALL DAMAGE IT WAS FOUND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING A PUNCTURE FLAT FIX. I THOUGHT THE STIFFER SIDEWALL OF THE RUN FLAT TIRE WOULD HELP BUT IT HAS NOT. I BELIEVE THAT THE 3,500 LBS WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE COMBINED WITH 17 RIMS AND 50 SERIES LOW PROFILE TIRES IS CAUSING THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRES TO BE CUT BY THE METAL RIM WHEN CHUCK HOLES ARE HIT. I'VE BEEN DRIVE 42 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A CHUCK HOLE CUT A TIRE LET ALONE 4 TIRES IN 22,000 MILES. THESE DAMAGED SIDE WALLS HAVE ALL BEEN ON CITY STREETS IN NORTH EASTERN OHIO AKRON, AND CLEVELAND AREA. THE SAME STREETS I'VE DRIVEN CARS ON FOR THE PAST 29 YEARS WITHOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS CAR IS BASICALLY A CHEVY CRUZ WITH 700LBS MORE WEIGHT DUE TO THE BATTERIES. THE CRUZ HAS 15 IN WHEELS, 16 IN WHEELS. AND 17 IN WHEELS. I BELIEVE THE ADDITIONAL WEIGHT 700 LBS COMBINED WITH THE SHORT 205/50/17 SIDE WALL TIRE .. THE CRUZ'S USES 215/50/17 TIRES IS THE CAUSE OF ALL THESE TIRE FAILURES. I DO NOT HAVE THE TIRE INVOICES WITH ME NOW TO VALIDATE THESE CLAIMS BUT I CAN PROVIDE THEM AT A LATER DATE. SHOULD YOU REQUIRE THEM.

THE TROUBLE BEGAN ON MARCH 16TH, I CAME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT, READY TO TAKE A U TURN.DRIVING IN EV MODE. ALL LIGHTS IN THE CONSOLE TURNED ON AND I GOT THREE ERRORS "INFORMATION : PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED" "SERVICE : STABILITRAK" "SERVICE : POWER STEERING. DRIVE WITH CARE" THE POWER STEERING GAVE UP.RESTARTED THE CAR AFTER 5MINS, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. ON MARCH 24TH, ON A HIGHWAY , IN HOLD MODE. AFTER A FEW MILES IN, I GOT AN ERROR "ACTION REQUIRED: ENGINE OVERHEATING REDUCE SPEED" TOOK THE NEXT EXIT OUT AND SAW THAT THE COOLANT TANK IS EMPTY. TURNED ON EV MODE , DROVE BACK HOME. ON MARCH 25TH MORNING, TOOK THE CAR IN TO SERVICE CENTER (DRIVE-IN). THEY IDENTIFIED A VALVE LEAKING IN THE COOLANT LOOP. REPLACED THE PART. MULTI-POINT INSPECTION DONE. 2 PENDING RECALLS DONE. GOT THE CAR BACK ON 26TH. ON MARCH 28TH, AT A LIGHT, ABOUT TAKE A LEFT TURN, DRIVING IN EV MODE. AGAIN, ALL LIGHTS IN THE CONSOLE TURNED ON AND I GOT THE SAME 3 ERRORS.I TOOK IT HOME. ON MARCH 29TH MORNING, TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE SERVICE CENTER AGAIN. THEY FOUND ANOTHER LEAK IN THE COOLANT, A HOSE THIS TIME AND REPLACED IT. THEY FOUND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AXLE IS SPILLING GEESE AND REPLACED IT. GOT THE CAR BACK ON APRIL 3RD. ON APRIL 4TH EVENING, THE CAR GAVE ME A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AGAIN. GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR 5TH MORNING, THE LIGHT WAS OFF ON THE MORNING. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE ADVISER AND HE MENTIONED THAT WE CAN READ THE CODES BUT WONT BE OF MUCH HELP IF THE LIGHTS ARE OFF AND BRING IT BACK IN IF THE LIGHTS ON AGAIN. ON APRIL 5TH AFTERNOON, JUST GOT ON THE HIGHWAY, TURNED ON HOLD MODE. AGAIN, ALL LIGHTS IN THE CONSOLE TURNED ON AND I GOT SAME THREE ERRORS. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER. WITH ALL THE LIGHTS ON. I GOT IT BACK ON TUSDAY 9TH. ON APRIL 12TH EVENING, IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY, I ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR. I GAVE THE CAR IN AGAIN.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (INCLUDING AFTER ALLEGED REPAIR), THE VEHICLE REQUESTED TO BE PLACED IN PARK WHILE MOVING. ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN PLACED IN PARK THE VEHICLE SHIFT LOCK ENGAGED AND COULD NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE SURGED WHILE DRIVING PRIOR TO REQUESTING TO BE PLACED IN PARK. ON ALL OCCURRENCES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHUT DOWN AND ENTERED A CONTINUOUS REBOOT CYCLE WHEN THE START/STOP BUTTON WAS PRESSED, INCLUDING WHEN TOWED.
DRIVING UP THE FREEWAY AT A NORMAL SPEED, MY VOLT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING AND AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES AGAIN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE INVOLUNTARILY. AFTER I MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD, SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE HOOD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HE HAD TO JUMP THE CAR TO START IT AGAIN.
I LEASED THIS CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2017. ON NOVEMBER 30, 2018, I GOT ONTO THE FREEWAY WHILE RUNNING ON GAS AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING WITHIN ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL ISSUES OR ANY WARNING SIGNS. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE COUNTLESS TIMES ON GAS RATHER THAN ELECTRIC CHARGE. THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR, ALL WINDOWS, THE FRONT TIRES, AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I HAVE SEEN 2 OTHER REVIEWS ON THIS WEBSITE ABOUT SPONTANEOUS VEHICLE FIRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHETHER THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING OR JUST PHYSICALLY PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE, HE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE UNEXPLAINED NEUROLOGICAL INJURIES, HAIR AND MEMORY LOSS, MOLES, BURNS TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BODY, SHAKING, AND SEVERE SWELLING OF THE HEAD FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE CONTACT SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION APPROXIMATELY TWELVE TIMES AND WAS TO THE POINT OF ALMOST NEEDING A CANE AND A WHEELCHAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 48 HOURS AFTER BEING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, HIS HEALTH BEGAN TO IMPROVE SIGNIFICANTLY. AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED, THE CONTACT DOWNLOADED AN APP THAT TESTED FOR SIGNS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION. THE APP RESULTS IDENTIFIED HIGH LEVELS OF RADIATION IN THE VEHICLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MEDVED CHEVROLET (11001 W INTERSTATE 70 FRONTAGE RD N, WHEAT RIDGE, CO 80033, 888-730-2381) TO SHARE THE APP FINDINGS. WITH THE HELP OF THE MANUFACTURER, THE DEALER CONCLUDED THAT THERE WERE HIGH LEVELS OF RADIATION INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO STAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SHARED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SOME ELECTRICAL REPAIRS PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY; HOWEVER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS UNRELATED TO THE RADIATION FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LOCATION OF WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD CHARGE OVERNIGHT WAS ADJACENT TO HIS BEDROOM, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO HIS DECLINING HEALTH. THE CONTACT SUBMITTED A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH INCLUDED A STATEMENT OF EVERYTHING HE EXPERIENCED, VIDEOS, AND PHOTO EVIDENCE; HOWEVER, HIS CLAIM WAS DENIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
WHEN APPROACHING A STOP AND APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY SINKS AND CAR LOSES TRACTION AND THE CAR SUDDENLY FEELS LIKE IT STARTS TO SLIDE. AFTER RELEASING AND THEN REAPPLYING THE BRAKES, THE RETURNS TO NORMAL.

SWITCHING FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS MOTOR WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR, TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. DASHBOARD INDICATOR SAYS TO PLACE IN PARK. WHEN STATIONARY, UNABLE TO TURN VEHICLE OFF. REPEAT START BUTTON AND SHIFTING, UNABLE TO DISENGAGE ENGINE TO RESET AND RESTART ENGINE. HAD TO TOW VEHICLE. CHEVY TECHNICIAN NECESSARY TO DISENGAGE/TURN OFF VEHICLE. RESTARTED WITH GAS. LOSS OF POWER WHEN VEHICLE SWITCHES FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS HAPPENS OFTEN. GENERAL MOTORS/ CHEVY IS UNABLE TO FIX. VECHICLE ONLY HAS 7500 MILES. HAD A COMPLETE SWAP OF TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 5 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. UNRELIABLE VEHICLE BEYOND 40 MILES ON ELECTRIC BATTERY. 4 TIMES IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. 3 TIMES ON HIGHWAY, ONCE CITY STREET. TOWED TWICE. TWICE I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART WITH THE GAS MOTOR. THE OTHER 2 TIMES I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN POWER; HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST WAS REQUIRED TO DISENGAGE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH THE GAS MOTOR ( AT THIS POINT THERE WAS NO MORE POWER IN THE BATTERY).
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL UNAVAILABLE RANDOMLY OCCURS WHILE DRIVING USING ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. PRESENTS A LARGE DANGER OF HITTING OTHER VEHICLES IF THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IS USED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AS IT WILL RANDOMLY DISENGAGE WHILE COMING TO A STOP. CRUISE CONTROL ONLY WORKS 4/10 TIMES ATTEMPTED AND WAS "FIXED" BY THE DEALER WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN A DAY. LOOKED IT UP IN FORUMS AND IT IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. HOLDING FOOT UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL ALLOWS CRUISE CONTROL TO WORK BUT IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN RANDOMLY CUTTING OFF. NO ONE IN VOLT FORUM HAS GOTTEN A COMPLETE FIX TO DATE. WHEN THEY DO I WILL BE GETTING MINE REPAIRED ARMED WITH THE CORRECT INFORMATION. BUT IT IS DANGEROUS.
UPON ATTEMPT TO POWER DOWN THE VEHICLE, WITH SHIFT CONTROL SET TO "P", MESSAGE NEVERTHELESS APPEARS READING "ACTION REQUIRED SHIFT TO PARK", AND VEHICLE WILL NOT POWER DOWN.
WHEN PULLING INTO MY GARAGE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT WALL OF THE GARAGE (PHOTO 08); WHEN I SHIFTED TO REVERSE, THE CAR CAREENED OUT OF THE GARAGE, ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY, AND COLLIDED WITH MY NEIGHBOR'S HOME (PHOTO 09), LEAVING SKID MARKS (PHOTOS 06 & 07) ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS IN NORMAL ELECTRIC MODE AT THE TIME. I PURCHASED THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR ON MAY 3RD FROM DAVE GILL CHEVROLET IN COLUMBUS, OH. THERE WERE 12,490 MILES ON THE CAR AT PURCHASE AND A LITTLE LESS THAN 14,000 MILES AS THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. I AM UPLOADING NINE (9) PHOTOS.
WHEN VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF GAS AND ONLY HAS BATTERY POWER (NO MATTER THE CHARGE) THE CAR GOES INTO REDUCED POWER MODE WHICH IS DANGEROUS IN ANY TRAFFIC ESPECIALLY INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS!!! THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU RUN OF GAS!! ALSO THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE NOT WORKING ALL THE TIME AND DISENGAGES BY ITS SELF FOR NO REASON(LIKE NOTHING IN FRONT OF YOU)!!
LIKE OTHERS, INCLUDING THE INCIDENT IN RANCHO CUCOMONGA, CA ON THE SAME DAY, APRIL 25TH, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED. I WAS IN THE CARPOOL LANE ON THE 210 FREEWAY. I THINK I ALSO WAS TOLD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ON AT A VERY DANGEROUS TIME, WHILE I WAS THE FURTHEST TO THE LEFT IN THE LATE AFTERNOON. MIRACULOUSLY, THERE WAS ONLY 1 CAR QUITE FAR BEHIND ME. SO, AFTER DECELERATION WAS FORCED UPON MY CAR, I BEGAN TO STEER THE CAR TO THE RIGHT THROUGH 5 LANES - ONE OF THE WIDEST PARTS OF THE HIGHWAY AT THAT POINT. HERE IS WHAT I NOW THINK. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH LOSS OF POWER IN MY 2014 VOLT. I HAD ACCIDENTALLY TURNED IT OFF WHILE BEING ON THE HIGHWAY. THEY FIXED THAT DESIGN FLAW IN THIS 2017 MODEL. I HAVE SHARED MY THEORY WITH GM. GM/CHEVY HAS 3-WAY CALLED ME WITH THE "STOLEN VEHICLES DEPT". THEY AGGRESSIVELY DESCRIBE HOW THEY WON'T ISSUE A SLOW-DOWN THROUGH THE ON-STAR UNLESS THEY HAVE A REQUEST THROUGH POLICE, THE POLICE ARE BEHIND, THE LIGHTS BLINK, ETC. BUT, THEY'RE RELUCTANT TO SHARE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. THEY'VE BEEN RELUCTANT TO SHARE HOW THEY TRACK YOUR VEHICLE THROUGH THE VIN AND GPS TRACKING. THEY'RE RELUCTANT TO SHARE THAT THIS SYSTEM CAN BE HACKED. IT IS EVIDENT THAT MUCH CAN GO WRONG ONCE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL YOUR CAR IS PLACED IN OTHER'S HANDS -- WHO AREN'T IN THE CAR DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP COULD SEE THE CODE OF THE SLOW-DOWN. OF COURSE THEY WERE SURPRISED. THIS WASN'T JUST A "FAILURE". THIS IS A "FEATURE" IN THE CAR...BUT SOMEONE ELSE USED IT WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. I WANT THE ON-STAR CONTROL DISABLED IN MY CAR!!! IT COULD HAVE KILLED MY DAUGHTER AND ME. IT COULD HAVE KILLED THE OTHERS WHO REPORTED A SIMILAR SITUATION.
URGENT URGENT. THIS IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE 2017 VOLT. MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE FOUND TWO OTHERS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TOO. GM DIDN'T EVEN INVESTIGATE BEFORE DENYING LIABILITY, THEY MADE A DETERMINATION OVER PHOTOS. ALL 3 VEHICLES HAD OVER 20K MILES ON IT. OTHERS LIVES MAY BE IN DANGER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.
MY CAR HAS HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE ALMOST THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP. MY CAR HAS HAD CONSTANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I CONTACTED GM AND EVEN SHOWED THEM A VIDEO THAT SHOWED WHAT MY CAR WAS DOING AS FAR AS NOT TURNING OFF WHEN I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I WOULD APPEAR TO SHUT OFF ONLY TO TURN BACK ON REPEATEDLY. GM DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO FIX MY ISSUES EXCEPT RUN IN CIRCLES AND CLAIM THEY COULDN'T/WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT CAUSE THE DEALER COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH I HAD VIDEO PROOF OF WHAT MY CAR WAS DOING TO ME. IT ONLY HAPPENED AT RANDOM AND WAS VERY SPORADIC. MY CAR HAS NOW CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO ALMOST NOTHING AND I AM OUT A LOT OF MONEY. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT MY SITE WWW.CHEVYVOLTSUCKS.COM TO SAY I AM PISSED AT GM IS AN EXTREME UNDERSTATEMENT. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WERE MADE AND ONLY PROVED TO BE A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND GIVEN LAME EXCUSES. I ALSO HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS OUT OF THE RIMS BENDING CAUSING REPLACEMENT OF THESE RIMS ON AN EXTENDED CONTRACT I HAD THAT COVERED THE RIMS AND TIRES. I HAVE OWNED NUMEROUS CARS OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER BENT A RIM IN MY LIFE UNTIL THIS CAR AND IT WAS OVER 4 RIMS BENT IN TOTAL IN LESS THAN A YEAR OF OWNING THIS CAR.
I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH THEN ALL THE SUDDEN I GOT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONE AND MESSAGE "ACTION REQUIRED, SHIFT TO PARK", I NOTICED THE DOOR UNLOCKED BY ITSELF AND THE CAR STARTING TO LOSE PROPULSION, I GLIDED OFF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED AT THE END OF OFF RAMP DUE TO RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, THEN THE CAR CAN NOT START AGAIN. AFTER TOW TRUCK CAME, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER FOUND TWO ERROR CODES IN THE HISTORY P0AC4 AND P0604. ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS WORKING FINE AT THIS MOMENT AND SEEMS LIKE IT WAS JUST SOME SORT OF COMPUTER CRASH, HOWEVER IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSE PROPULSION ON THE FREEWAY AND STUCK ON A HEAVY TRAFFIC OFF RAMP.
ON SAT APRIL 7TH, MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT RANDOMLY CAUGHT FIRE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND EXIT THE VEHICLE ONLY SUFFERING FROM SMOKE INHALATION. THIS WAS MY SECOND VOLT AND I HAD DRIVEN IT OVER 20K MILES. HERE IS WHAT I DO KNOW. THERE WAS NO WARNING, ONLY FLAMES ENGULFING THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. 8 DAYS PRIOR, THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP DID SOME RECALL UPDATES ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70+) ON THE GAS BACKUP MODE THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME DRIVING AT THESE SPEEDS ON 0 BATTERY AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT HAS BEEN 4 DAYS SINCE THE INCIDENT AND I AM UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED THAT NOBODY FROM GM HAS REACHED OUT TO ME REGARDING THIS INCIDENT.
MY WIFE HAS ALZHEIMER'S CAN'T STAND UP OR WALK SO CAN'T PUT HER IN THE BACK SEAT . DOOR OPENING IS TO SMALL. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE RUNNING 70 MPH AND SHE PULLS ON THE DOOR HANDLE TWICE AND THE DOOR OPENS DOOR. DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE HAVING THE DOORS TO OPEN WHEN THE HANDLE IS PULLED TWICE SHE ALMOST FELL BUT SEAT BELT SAVED HER. THEY NEED TO PUT A CHILD LOCK ON THIS DOOR ALSO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, A HOLE FORMED IN THE EMISSIONS PIPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE EMISSIONS CONTROLS STOPPED WORKING AND FUEL WAS VAPORIZED. HERITAGE CHEVROLET BUICK OWINGS MILLS (11234 REISTERSTOWN RD, OWINGS MILLS, MD 21117) DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,600.
WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT 35MPH ON A SMOOTH ROAD WHEN I PRESSED MY BRAKE PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED FOR NEARLY A SECOND THEN THE BRAKES WORKED AS USUAL. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR I COULD OF EASILY BEEN IN A CRASH. THE VOLT HAS A BRAKE-BY-WIRE SYSTEM WITH REGENERATIVE BRAKING. I FEEL THAT EITHER THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING FAILED AND THE COMPUTER TOOK A LONG TIME TO REVERT TO THE FRICTION BRAKES OR THE BRAKE MODULE TEMPORARY FAILED AND NEITHER REGEN OR FRICTION BRAKES WERE AVAILABLE. I'VE DRIVEN A FIRST YEAR LEAF WHERE SOMETIMES THERE IS A SLIGHT DELAY WHEN SWITCHING TO FRICTION BRAKES IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS, AND THIS EVENT WAS MUCH MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE PERFECT THAT DAY.
WHILE DRIVING IN MY SON TO SCHOOL MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. FEARING MY CAR WOULD DIE WITH NO WARNING (LIKE HAD PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED) I WENT BACK TO MY HOUSE. I USED ONSTAR TO PULL THE ENGINE CODE OF U18A2 WHICH AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE COULD RESULT IN 'LOSS OF PROPULSION' LIKE PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED FOR SERVICE. AFTER 15 DAYS I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR SOMEWHERE.
WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET MY CAR SERVICED FOR NEARLY STALLING AT A STOP LIGHT MY CAR ENGINE KEPT TURNING ON AND OFF AND REVVING UP AND DOWN RANDOMLY. I WAS IN ELECTRIC MODE AND THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN COMING ON. THE CAR'S SPEED RANDOMLY FLUCTUATED AS THE ENGINE RANDOMLY REVVED UP AND DOWN. I PULLED IN TO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT WHERE MY CAR DIED. BEFORE DYING THE GAS RANGE INDICATOR CHANGED FROM 87 MILES TO 'LOW FUEL'. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED. AFTER 16 DAYS I GOT MY CAR BACK. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE TWICE. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT FAILED WITHIN A 1 MILE TEST DRIVE BY THE MECHANIC.
WHILE DRIVING MY 3 YEAR OLD SON TO SCHOOL MY VOLT LOST PROPULSION WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT. THE CAR DISPLAYED A "LOSS OF PROPULSION" WARNING AND WITHIN 3 SECONDS MY CAR HAD NO POWER AND WAS DEAD IN THE ROAD. THE VOLT IS A HYBRID AND IT LOST PROPULSION WHILE IN ELECTRIC MODE. AFTER THE CAR STOPPED I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON AND I TRIED TO FORCE IT TO RUN IN GAS ENGINE MODE BUT NOTHING WORKED. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE IT TOOK 31 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. GM WAS CALLED IN TO HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. IN THE VOLT THE TRANSMISSION ALSO CONTAINS TWO DRIVE MOTORS.
NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10113301: WHILE DRIVING 1 MONTH OLD CAR WITH 1000 MILES ON FREEWAY, CAR SUDDENLY STALLED. THIS CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AND HAD TO CROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO PROPULSION. GM ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS AN ISSUE IN JANUARY 2017 AND AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2017 WITH REVISED NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10123263. WHY IS GM ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO SELL THESE VEHICLES WITH SUCH A DANGEROUS ISSUE WITHOUT REPAIRING THEM PRIOR TO SELLING TO AN UNKNOWING CONSUMER? THEY COMMITTED FRAUD, NEGLIGENCE, AND MISREPRESENTED THEIR PRODUCT WHEN KNOWINGLY SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. THE DEALER REFUSES TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK AND TO REFUND ANY MONEY PAID.
THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL BOTH MODULATE PRESSURE NEEDED TO EITHER ACCELERATE OR BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL CHANGE PRESSURE NEEDED TO BRAKE SUDDENLY, CAUSING YOU TO APPLY MUCH MORE FORCE TO BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH IS UNEXPECTED AND DANGEROUS. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, A CAR IN FRONT OF YOU STOPS, AND YOU APPLY BRAKES. TRAFFIC CLEARS AND YOU RELEASE BRAKES, BUT THEN CAR IN FRONT STOPS AGAIN AND REQUIRES YOU TO BRAKE AGAIN SUDDENLY. THIS TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL REQUIRE MORE PRESSURE AND PEDAL TRAVEL IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE. THIS IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE CHANGED.
VEHICLE'S LANE DEPARTURE FUNCTION AND CALIBRATION WAS REPROGRAMMED AFTER A RECALL SERVICE AND NOT FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK. FUNCTION WAS NOT ONLY A PREMIUM CHARGE OPTION, BUT ORIGINALLY WOULD MONITOR THE LANE LINES AND ADJUST THE ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM TO KEEP THE VEHICLE WELL WITHIN THE ROAD LANES' PAINTED LINES. NOW, THE VEHICLE WILL (MORE TIMES THAN NOT) COMPLETELY CROSS THE TIRES WELL OVER THE PAINTED LINE, TRAVELING SEVERAL TENS OF YARDS BEFORE ONLY SLIGHTLY CORRECTING ITS DIRECTION BACK TOWARDS THE LANE. IN A BEST CASE SCENARIO, VEHICLE SYSTEM WILL BEGIN CORRECTING ITSELF APPROXIMATELY JUST AS THE FRONT TIRE MAKES CONTACT WITH THE LANE BOUNDARY LINES. THIS HAS BEEN OBSERVED IN LANES OF VARYING WIDTH AND CONFIRMED BY THE SERVICING DEALERSHIP. FURTHER, SYSTEM IS INCONSISTENT IN ITS DETERMINATION AND "CORRECTION" LANE BOUNDARIES, SOMETIMES CROSSING THE LEFT LANE LINE ENTIRELY THEN BARELY TOUCHING THE RIDE SIDE LANE, OR VICE VERSA. SYSTEM HAS ALSO BEEN APPARENTLY LESS SENSITIVE IN READING THE LINES AS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATOR WILL NOT LIGHT UP INDICATING THAT IT RECOGNIZES LANES, EVEN THOUGH LANES ARE CLEARLY AND BRIGHTLY PAINTED AND ILLUMINATED BY EITHER HEADLIGHTS, STREET LIGHTS OR SUNLIGHT. AS THIS VEHICLE IS A COMPLETE DRIVE-BY-WIRE SYSTEM (BRAKES, STEERING, AND THROTTLE HAVE NO MECHANICAL CONNECTION TO DRIVER'S INPUTS), I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS WITH REGARDS TO THE SENSORS CAPABILITIES IN ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE AND FEEL THAT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THE SYSTEM WILL FAIL TO OPERATE AS PROMOTED AND PROMISED BY THE MANUFACTURE. THIS WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE IF THIS PERFORMANCE WAS SIMILAR OR CONSISTENT TO PERFORMANCE FROM INITIAL OPERATION, HOWEVER, THE OEM HAS EFFECTIVELY AND DRAMATICALLY CHANGING THE VEHICLE'S DRIVING DYNAMIC AND SAFETY FUNCTION THAT I (AND ANY REASONABLE DRIVER) HAVE BECOME COMFORTABLE WITH AS A DRIVER, WITHOUT MY CONSENT.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT EQUIPMENT WITH AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST. ON NOVEMBER 1, 2017, I WAS DRIVING ON BATH STREET IN SANTA BARBARA. I DECIDED TO PARK ON BATH AT PUEBLO STREET. THE FIRST TIME, I ENGAGED THE APA FEATURE TO ASSIST WITH PARALLEL PARKING, I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTION TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO REVERSE. THE MOMENT I COMPLETED THE SHIFT AND I LIFTED BY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY IN REVERSE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL IT HAD JUMPED THE CURB AND SIDESWIPED A TELEPHONE POLE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALER AND FILED A CLAIM FOR PRODUCT DEFECT WITH GENERAL MOTORS. GENERAL MOTORS HAS SUBSEQUENTLY DECLINED THE CLAIM.
THE CAR WILL GO BACKWARDS WHILE IN PARK, SPECIALLY WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEPLETED. LATE AT NIGHT I HAD PARKED THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET GOT OUT AND WAS GOING TO MOVE A TRASH CAN OUT OF THE WAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO STOP IT BUT COULD NOT SO I HAD TO JUMP IN AND PUT ON THE BRAKES JUST IN TIME BEFORE IT HIT THE NEIGHBORS CAR. I GOT A BRUISE ON MY KNEE TRYING TO GET IN TO THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM AND VIDEO TAPE IT AS PROOF. GM ENGINEERING HAD SOMEONE COME OUT FROM RAYTHEON AND CHECK OUT THE CAR AND HE ALONG WITH THE MECHANIC AT MOSS BROTHERS CHEVY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM, AND THEY WANTED THE CAR BACK AT GM TO RUN FURTHER TESTS ON IT. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE CAR BUT I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PRICE DIFFERENCE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THEY HAD TO DELIVER THE CAR ON A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS DEEMED TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE COULD NOT TOUCH IT AT GM ORDER. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO REPLACE THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS UNPREDICTABLE HOW THE PARK AND REVERSE GEARS WILL ACT I HAVE MANY EXAMPLES OF THE PROBLEM ON YOUTUBE AND ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR WOULD NOT GO BACKWARDS IN REVERES AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT SUDDENLY JERKED BACKWARDS AT HIGH SPEED SCARING ME AND MY FAMILY. HERE IS THE LINK I PROVIDED TO GM BEFORE THEY TOOK THE CAR IN. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/PLAYLIST?LIST=PL7ETUGMNBO_7JQP6QEVYDSKWI7OOQF5_D I DON'T WANT SOMEONE TO DIE LIKE THE STAR TREK ACTOR WHO GOT PINED BY HIS CAR. ALL THIS HAPPENED A FEW DAYS AFTER I HAD PURCHASED THE CARD. THE DEALERSHIP HELD MY CAR FOR 30 DAYS BEFORE THEY RETURNED IT TO ME. THEY DID GIVE ME A LOANER FOR THE 30 DAYS.
WHILE SLOWING DOWN APPROACHING A RED LIGHT WITH THE GEAR IN L (REGENERATIVE BRAKING), THE CAR WAS IN ELECTRIC MODE AND TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED (UNDER 10MPH AND LIKELY LESS THAN 5MPH) WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE WENT INTO A LARGE BUT SHALLOW POT HOLE AT WHICH TIME THE CAR FELT LIKE IT ACCELERATED (AT THE VERY LEAST DECELERATION ENDED). MY FOOT WAS ALREADY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL (NOT SURE IF I WAS PRESSING IT); HOWEVER, I IMMEDIATELY MASHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO. AT FIRST THIS DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY EFFECT. AFTER A MOMENT, THOUGH, IT FINALLY KICKED IN AND THE CAR STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. I DO NOT BELIEVE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (WHICH WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED). HOWEVER, THAT DRIVER WASN'T SURE IF I DID AND ASKED FOR MY INFORMATION (THERE WAS NO PAINT TRANSFER OR ANY MARKS ON MY CAR--THERE WAS A MARK ON THE OTHER VEHICLE WHICH I BELIEVE WAS ALREADY THERE AND THE OTHER DRIVER WASN'T SURE AND WANTED TO TALK TO HER HUSBAND ABOUT IT). NOTE IN THE LATER SECTION THAT ASKS "WAS THERE A CRASH?" I AM MARKING NO AS I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS A COLLISION NOR IS THERE ANY PHYSICAL EVIDENCE ON MY CAR OF A COLLISION. HOWEVER, THE OTHER DRIVER MAY DISPUTE THAT.
MICHELIN GREENX ENERGY SAVER A/S TIRES (DOT M3 38 001X, TPO SPEC1473MS) TWO SIDEWALL BLOWOUTS IN ON MONTH FROM RELATIVELY MINOR CURBING SCRAPES. ALSO HAD TO REPLACE ANOTHER TIRE WITH A SIDEWALL RIP BEFORE IT BLEW OUT IN JULY. HAS COST US $900, BETWEEN TIRE REPLACEMENTS, TOW CHARGES, AND LYFT RIDES. NO ENERGY SAVINGS THERE. PHOTO IS OF THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE ON 10/15. WE REPLACED THE LAST TWO WITH WITH HEAVIER TIRES.
I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR THREE WEEKS, BUT ALREADY TWICE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOB AND WOULD NOT START, LOCK, OR UNLOCK. THIS HAPPENED TWICE, SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF. A DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE RECEIVER IN THE VEHICLE YESTERDAY, SO WE WILL SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. BUT SINCE I SAW THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD HAD THIS PROBLEM, I THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE REPORTED.
AT TIMES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOB AND WILL NOT START, LOCK, OR UNLOCK. THIS HAPPENS SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND OFF. I CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT HAPPENS ABOUT 2-3 TIMES A MONTH. IT SEEMS THAT IF I GET THE FOB AWAY FROM THE CAR FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND RETURN, THE VEHICLE THEN RECOGNIZES THE KEY AGAIN.
VEHICLE BRAKES FAIL TO FULLY ENGAGE INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN SLOWING DOWN ON MULTIPLE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE BRAKES WORK INITIALLY, THEN, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S SLIDING ON ICE (DRY SUMMER ROADS) THEN THE BRAKES ENGAGE AGAIN. THE BRAKE PEDDLE GENERALLY FEELS NORMAL AT FIRST, THEN GOES SOFT AND SINKS. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHO'VE STATED THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN TO JUST SEND SOMEONE ON THEIR WAY WITH. I'VE ALSO BEEN WORKING WITH GENERAL MOTORS. WHILE WORKING WITH GM, THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE NEW DEALERSHIP FOUND ERROR CODES OUTLINING THE TRACTION CONTROL MODULE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND ELECTRICAL GROUND ISSUES EXIST.
THIS AFTERNOON MY WIFE & DAUGHTER WERE OUT SHOPPING HERE NEAR TAMPA--OUTSIDE TEMP 'ONLY' 93* TODAY WITH REAL FEEL 108. THEY RETURNED TO THE CAR, UNLOCKED BUT DID NOT REMOTE START, & PLACED THEIR PACKAGES IN THE HATCH BEFORE SITTING IN THE CAR & CLOSING THE DOORS. MY WIFE TRIED TO START THE CAR & GOT THE MESSAGE OTHERS HAVE GOTTEN ABOUT THE KEY FOB NOT BEING RECOGNIZED. THEY TRIED AGAIN TO START THE CAR & GOT THE MESSAGE AGAIN & COULD READ ENOUGH BEFORE IT DISAPPEARED TO PUT THE KEY FOB IN THE CENTER CONSOLE. THEN THE DOORS LOCKED WHILE THE WINDOWS WERE UP & THEY STILL COULDN'T START THE CAR. I HEADED TO THEIR LOCATION, ABOUT 15 MINUTES AWAY, PREPARED TO BREAK THE WINDOW. I WAS ABOUT TO TELL THEM TO CALL 911 WHEN THEY SAID THE CAR WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START & THEY DROVE HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
THE TRAFFIC NAVIGATION SYSTEM REQUIRES THAT THE DRIVER CONSTANTLY TAKE THEIR EYES OFF THE ROAD. THERE IS NO AUDIBLE WARNING ABOUT DELAYS AND THE MAP ONLY SHOW INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS WITH RED OR GREEN ROAD MARKERS. OTHER AFFECTED STREETS ARE ON A LIST THAT ONE HAS TO READ OFF THE SCREEN AND CONSTANTLY CHECK. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND A SETUP FOR ACCIDENTS.
THE CAR LITERALLY JUST STOPPED WORKING AS I WAS TURNING ON A BUSY ROAD, SO I WAS STUCK RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH CARS NEARLY SMASHING INTO THE BACK OF ME. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING. I COULDN'T TURN IT OFF OR ON- IT WAS KIND ON JUST STUCK IN AN ALTERNATE MODE. THERE WAS AN ORANGE ENGINE SYMBOL THAT WAS LIT UP AND IT KEPT SAYING "SHIFT TO PARK" BUT I WOULD SHIFT AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. I COULDN'T PUT IT IN NEUTRAL SO I COULD PUSH IT TO A SAFER LOCATION. NOTHING. THE TECHNICIAN ON THE PHONE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT, BUT SOMEONE WHO STOPPED TO HELP SAID HE USED TO WORK ON THESE CARS AND SAID IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN AND IT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO FIX IT (I THOUGHT I REMEMBER HIM SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT AN ENGINE SWITCH PROBLEM, BUT I WAS SO FRAZZLED I WASN'T REALLY LISTENING TO HIM) . IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I DON'T KNOW HOW THESE CARS HAVE NO BEEN RECALLED.
ON MAY 8TH, 2017, CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A GRINDING, WHIRRING SOUND AND BECAME UNDRIVEABLE. CAR WAS IN SLOW MOTION ON A COUNTRY ROAD, HAVING JUST SLOWED DOWN FOR A LIGHT THEN TURNED INTO PARKING LOT WHEN NOISE BEAN.
WE'VE HAD A TOTAL OF THREE CHEVY VOLTS. TWO HAVE BEEN GREAT, BUT THE 2017 VOLT WE GOT IN FEBRUARY 2017 HAS BEEN AWFUL -- THE CAR COMPLETELY LOSES POWER WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, BOTH ON THE FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREETS. AND JUST TO CLARIFY, I DON'T MEAN THE CAR WAS OUT OF ELECTRICITY OR OUT OF GAS (EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE CAR HAD BOTH). WE WILL BE DRIVING ALONG WHEN, OUT OF THE BLUE, THE CAR SIMPLY JUST STOPS RUNNING, LEAVING US TO DO OUR BEST TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROADWAY WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THE CAR (WHICH ONLY HAS ABOUT 1,000 MILES ON IT) HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. WE HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED BY HOW BOTH GM AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN HANDLING THE SITUATION.
THIS ELECTRIC CAR HAS REGENERATIVE BRAKING. BESIDES BEING IN THE REGULAR BRAKING, THERE IS A PURE REGENERATIVE BRAKING PADDLE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. BUT WHEN YOU USE THIS BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT TURN ON. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AS I USE THIS BRAKE ALL THE TIME AND CARS BEHIND ME DO NOT KNOW I AM BRAKING AND HAVE ALMOST REAR ENDED ME. CHEVY DEALER SAYS THAT IS THE WAY IT IS DESIGNED AND IS FUNCTIONING PERFECTLY. WHY HAS THIS BEEN APPROVED TO DESIGN A BRAKING SYSTEM WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS? WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS?
WE BOUGHT A NEW 2017 CHEVY VOLT AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2016 AND HAD OUR FIRST ISSUE IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2017. WHAT HAPPENED THAT FIRST TIME WAS ON (2/3/2017) WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TRAFFIC THE CAR WITHOUT WARNING TURNED OFF THE ELECTRIC WHEEL MOTORS AND WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO POWER THE CAR PROPERLY TO GET THE CAR TO THE BERM. WE WERE NEARLY WERE HIT TWICE WHILE TRYING TO STEER THE CAR OFF OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AS IT DECELERATED. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AN NEEDED TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK THEY RETURNED IT WITH THE EXPLANATION THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO DO SOFTWARE UPDATES AND THEY WERE TOO LARGE TO DO OVER THE CAR'S SATELLITE SYSTEM ' BUT THEY NEVER GAVE US ANY INDICATION OF HOW WE WOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE NEED FOR SUCH AN UPDATE. WE THEN HAD ANOTHER NEAR ACCIDENT TODAY (4/6/2017) ON THE SAME HIGHWAY AND WE WERE NEARLY PUSHED UP UNDER A SEMI WHILE TRYING TO MANEUVER OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MILES AN HOUR. AGAIN, THE CAR WITHOUT WARNING SHUT OFF THE ELECTRIC WHEEL MOTORS AND WARNED US TO 'PUT THE CAR IN PARK'. IT HAPPENED IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS IN FEBRUARY BUT NO WARNINGS HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR OUR CAR AND WE ALMOST HAD A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. MY CONCERN IS FOR MY FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES SAFETY AT THIS POINT AND I DON'T WANT ANYONE DRIVING IN THIS CAR. I HATE TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TODAY IF MY DAUGHTER, WHO IS A BRAND NEW DRIVER, WOULD HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THE SAME SITUATION SANDWICHED IN BY TWO SEMI-TRUCKS AND WITH A CAR TRYING TO PASS ON THE SHOULDER AROUND HER ' IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. I AM IN SEVERAL CHEVY VOLT GROUPS ON FACEBOOK AND PEOPLE WHO LOVED THE GENERATION 1 OF THESE CARS ARE HAVING MAJOR ISSUES FROM BATTERY PACKS DYING, TO DRIVE TRAIN ISSUES, TO SPEED CONTROL PROBLEMS AND MORE WHERE PEOPLE ARE HAVING MAJOR SYSTEM PIECES REPLACED 2-3 TIMES IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS THEY OWN THE CARS.
STRONG BURNING AND/OR FUEL SMELL FILLED THE PASSENGER CABIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MOST NOTABLY WHEN THE CAR WAS OPERATING IN 'ENGINE RUNNING DUE TO TEMPERATURE' MODE. THE ODOR WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO CAUSE DIZZINESS AND REQUIRED TO THE WINDOWS TO BE OPENED TO VENT THE CABIN. THE SMELL AND ORDER NOW IS PERSISTENT EVEN WHEN DRIVING IN ALL-ELECTRIC MODE. MY INTENSION IS TO REPLACE THE CABIN AIR FILTER WITH A CARBON AIR FILTER PER 16-NA-127.
MY 2017 CHEVY VOLT SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH IN ELECTRIC MODE. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 4500 MILES. A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. I COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER INVERTER MODULE AND UPDATED THE SOFTWARE. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE ELECTRIC MOTOR HAS STALLED ON TWO OCCASIONS AND THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY THEN SWITCHES INTO THE GASOLINE ENGINE MODE.
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON A MILD CURVE ON A WET OREGON STATE HIGHWAY. IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THIS SURELY COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY OR DEATH HAD THERE BEEN A SHARP CURVE OR PEDESTRIAN OR VEHICLE TO AVOID. I AM HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THIS VEHICLE HAS 2043 MILES ON IT.
ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASION MY CAR HAS DIED ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOST ACCELERATION, GM ISSUED A RECALL BETWEEN MY FIRST AND SECOND INCIDENTS AND THE RECALL FIX DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AS THIS HAPPENED A THIRD TIME. NOV 14TH WAS THE FIRST TIME BUT IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY DIE BECAUSE OF THIS. THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN IS PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED
IF THE CAR LOSES POWER, AND THE DOORS HAVE LOCKED (DO AUTOMATICALLY), THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE PLUNGER IS RECESSED SO MUCH IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO RAISE IT TO UNLOCK. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET, THEY HAVE NO ANSWER ON HOW TO OVERCOME THIS. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WAS LOCKED IN ANOTHER TYPE OF VEHICLE WHEN LOST POWER, BUT COULD MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. TV NEWS THIS MORNING SHOWED A PERSON TRAPPED IN A CAR WITH NO POWER, BUT WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE MESSAGE WAS TO LEARN HOW TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE CAR IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. PLEASE SEE IF THIS CAN BE REMEDIED, IT MAY SAVE LIVES. THANK YOU, GRATEFUL TAXPAYER. *TR
WE ARE WRITING TO VOICE A VERY DISCONCERTING AND DANGEROUS INCIDENT WITH OUR 2017 CHEVY VOLT. ON A RETURN TRIP AT DARK FROM CLEVELAND, OHIO TO ROCHESTER, NY ON 12-26-16, OUR ENGINE SUDDENLY GAVE WARNING BEEPS WHICH PROMPTED MY HUSBAND TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER ON INTERSTATE 90 IN ERIE, PA. WE HAD ALL OF 15-20 SECONDS TO GET OFF THIS HEAVILY TRAFFICKED HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR LITERALLY SHUT DOWN.. NOTHING WORKED NOT EVEN THE WARNING FLASHERS. WE COULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK, AND HAD WE NOT KEPT ONE DOOR OPEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ENTER THE CAR. IN SUMMARY, THE TOTAL FAILURE WE ENCOUNTERED SHOWS THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THIS CAR. WE ARE NOW RELUCTANT TO TAKE IT ON TRIPS THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT HAD WE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PULL OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER.
THE VEHICLE CENTER DISPLAY DOES NOT WORK RELIABLY. MOST CONCERNING TO SAFETY IS THE FACT THAT THIS RENDERS THE REVERSE CAMERA INOPERABLE. OTHER THINGS THAT DON'T WORK INCLUDE BLUETOOTH, RADIO, ON STAR, CONTROLS FOR THE VEHICLE SETUP AND CHARGING PARAMETERS, AIR CONDITIONING, ENERGY USAGE DISPLAY, AND SO ON. AFTER SEVERAL SERVICE VISITS AND CALLS TO GM, THEY DETERMINED THAT IF YOU LEAVE A PHONE PLUGGED INTO THE USB CORD FOR THE AUDIO SYSTEM, AND POWER THE CAR OFF WITHOUT FIRST UNPLUGGING THE PHONE FROM THE CHARGER AND EVEN THE CHARGER CORD FROM THE USB PORT (WITH NO PHONE PLUGGED IN) OR ELSE THE NEXT TIME YOU START THE CAR THE SCREEN AND FUNCTIONS ON IT WILL BE INOPERABLE UNTIL THE CAR IS POWERED OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WHETHER OR NOT I UNPLUG MY PHONE WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR SHOULD PREVENT THE BACKUP CAMERA FROM FUNCTIONING NOR THE DETAILS ABOUT ELECTRIC CAR CHARGE USAGE. GM HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO, THAT'S JUST HOW IT WORKS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO DISPLAY THE SPEED OF THE TRAVELING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A FREEWAY A LIGHT CAME ON STATING ALL SYSTEMS WOULD SHUT DOWN AND ALL SYSTEMS DID SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS HARDLY TIME ENOUGH TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVEN THE ONSTAR SYSTEM WAS INOPERABLE TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE. THE DOOR FOB WOULD NOT WORK TO OPEN THE CAR DOORS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THE TOW COMPANY WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL SO SKATES WERE USED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE ON A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, SINGH, RIVERSIDE, CA THAT RECEIVED THE TOW VEHICLE STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO 3 DEFECTIVE FUSES THAT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE BATTERY SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUSES WERE PRODUCED OVERSEAS AND THAT THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THE CAR AND NO ESTIMATED DATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT GMC HAD SENT OUT A FLYER RELATING TO THIS PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. AFTER 3 WEEKS I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND I PICKED IT UP. THREE DAYS AFTER PICKING UP THE CAR I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. A GMC FIELD TECHNICIAN WAS DISPATCHED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR. GMC IS IN THE PROCESS OF RE-PURCHASING THE VEHICLE FROM ME UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM FOR 7 WEEKS.
WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN CAR (WITH ~2500 MILES ON IT) JUST SHUT OFF, LUCKILY ON A SIDE STREET AFTER CROSSING A BUSY HIGHWAY. I DROVE TO MEET HER AND CALLED ONSTAR. IT WAS IN THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MODE. THEY CONNECTED ME WITH THE VOLT SUPPORT TEAM. THEY DETERMINED IT HAD SOMEHOW GOT INTO SERVICE MODE AND THEY TALKED ME THOUGH GETTING IT OUT OF THAT. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. IT SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW MILES BUT IT STARTED DISPLAYING REDUCED PROPULSION POWER AND DIED AGAIN ABOUT 100YDS AWAY FROM THE DEALER, AFTER I HAD JUST PULLED ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. I TRIED THE TECHNIQUE TO GET IT OUT OF SERVICE MODE, BUT IT DID NOT WORK THIS TIME AND HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW (AND POLICE DETAIL SO I WOULDN'T GET REAR-ENDED). THE DEALER REPAIRED THE CAR AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS A SHORT IN THE BATTERY COOLING SYSTEM/PUMP.
HEADREST JUTS OUT TOO FAR FORWARD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON ALL NEWER CARS. MY WIFE CAN NOT SIT STRAIGHT UP IN THE SEAT WITH HER BACK AGAINST THE SEATBACK WITHOUT HAVING THE HEADREST PUSHING HER HEAD DOWNWARD. WE TRIED TO MOVE THE HEADREST UP AND DOWN WITH NO RESOLVE. SHE IS ABOUT 5 FOOT 7 INCHES WITH VERY GOOD POSTURE. THE HEADREST SEEM TO PUT HERE HEAD IN AN UNNATURAL POSITION.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2 MONTH OLD CAR WITH ~2300 MILES ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT ~ 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR LOSES POWER AND THE PANEL READS "SHIFT TO PARK". LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR (STEERING WAS STILL IN TACT) WITH THE REMAINING SPEED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. HOWEVER, HAD THE HIGHWAY BEEN BUSIER OR IF I HAD BEEN ON THE FAR LEFT LANE, I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT AND WOULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. ON THE VOLT FORUM, OTHERS HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. THE REPAIR, THOUGH COVERED, TOOK 3+ WEEKS AT THE DEALERSHIP. FROM DEALER PRINTOUT "INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PRIME NOTOR(SIC) INTERNAL FAILURE P03AF DRIVE MOTOR REMOVE AND REPLACE WITH SRTA SRTA UNIT".
I WAS APPROACHING A SUDDEN RED LIGHT AND APPLIED MY BRAKES HARD BUT NOT TOO HARD (I DID NOT SUDDENLY SLAM THE BRAKES). THE BRAKES APPLIED AS EXPECTED AT FIRST BUT THE BRAKES LET UP SOME AND MY VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE FOR ABOUT HALF A SECOND BEFORE THE BRAKES APPLIED AGAIN AND DECELERATED TO A STOP. I WAS NOT ABLE TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL FURTHER WHEN IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT DECELERATING.
2017 CHEVROLET VOLT EXTREME ENGINE HAZARD: ON 22-MAR-2016 I PURCHASED A 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT PREMIER, ALL SAFETY OPTIONS. DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, STRAIGHT DRIVING, RELATIVELY LIGHT TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON YELLOW AND STEADY (EMISSIONS SYSTEM SERVICE WARNING) BUT THE CAR UNCONTROLLABLY DECELERATED. THE FREEWAY HAD NO SHOULDER DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. THE CAR SMELLED OF BURNING ELECTRICAL INSULATION CONFIRMED BY THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER. THE CAR, WITH LESS THAN 150 TOTAL MILES, IN CLEAR WEATHER, AT TWILIGHT, 76 DEGREES, CALIFORNIA AT SEA LEVEL, STRAIGHTAWAY, HAD A SUDDEN AND NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF ALL PROPULSION. THIS CAUSED A LACK OF CONTROL (OBVIOUSLY) IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION, CAUSING AN EXTREME HAZARD ON THE FREEWAY. I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER: MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS WAS A SERIOUS MANUFACTURE'S ERROR. I CHECKED, NO PARKING BRAKE, THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE GEAR, I HAD BOTH ELECTRIC RANGE AND OVER 7/8 TANK OF GAS SHOWING A GAS RANGE OF 360 MILES - AND I HAD JUST DRIVEN 60 MILES. THERE WAS NO BRAKE SMELL, AS I DID NOT NEED TO APPLY THE BRAKE BECAUSE THE ENGINE GAVE NO PROPULSION. MY HAND WAS OFF THE REGEN SWITCH. THE CAR HAD A MAJOR MALFUNCTION CAUSING AN EXTREME HAZARD, AND BASED ON THE SMELL, POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD.
