System failure: front and rear hydraulic brakes. Yes, the safety of the driver and passenger were put at risk. No, the problem was not confirmed by the dealer or service center. Why not? See below: a) As the brake components (brake pads) were assumed to be wear items and not covered under warranty, the brake components were replaced (brake rotors and pads) and the calipers were rebuilt. c) The brake service work was performed by the owner of the vehicle (complaint writer). There were no lamps/icons nor messages displayed to alert the vehicle owner of the malfunction. On June 05, 2021 while driving in the Traverse City MI area descending steep hills, it was noticed that the brake pedal required above normal force to slow the vehicle. In July 2021 with approximately 21000 miles, I disassembled the front and rear brake components to investigate the root cause of the brake performance decline. The front and rear calipers were observed to have very minimal caliper lubricant on the caliper pins and sleeves and evidence of corrosion. The front brake pads were worn approximately 50% and rear pads were worn about 90-100% (no friction material remaining). See attached files. New brake rotors and pads were installed and the calipers were rebuilt. On August 04 2021, I contacted the Mazda Customer Experience Center to advise of the brake system malfunction. Service Request Number 1-4195762982 was assigned. On August 26 2021, I brought the brake pads and rotors to Serra Mazda to advise/alert Mazda of the premature brake pad wear. The Service/Parts Director was given the brake pads in order that the components could be forwarded to Mazda for a "PQR" to be initiated. No response has been received. The vehicle has been serviced at Serra Mazda since 2018 and no statements were made to the vehicle owner that the brake pads were below the service limit.
The infotainment system is experiencing problems of operating by itself (ghost touch) similar to the hazard experienced on certain 2014-2016 Mazda 3s.
My Mazda 6 control screen, that displays and is used to control entertainment, car settings (lights, brakes, warnings, etc.), GPS, and various safety and control applications failed and was unusable. My car, like so many reported on social media, was just out of warranty. I was forced to pay $1,254 to replace this CMU at my dealership. This defective unit, and it's associated computer, is a known failure by Mazda. In fact, it is so known that a recall and an extended warranty period for subject owners was made for the Mazda 3 line of cars. This defect is also very, very well known and reported by many Mazda 6 owners with no coverage against the defect by Mazda and no recall or extended warranty period. Mazda 3 owners were treated fairly; Mazda 6 owners that suffer from the same defective units are not. It is a very, very expensive and very, very common defect acknowleged by Mazda Corporation that we should not have to pay to repair.
I BOUGHT MY 2017 MAZDA 6 BRAND NEW. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN WARRANTY IN JANUARY 2020 WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH 50 MILES IN HOUR, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE ENGINE STALL. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY MAZDA AT DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT THAT TIME. FEW DAYS AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH 35 MILES IN HOUR THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. MAZDA TOWED THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS THEY TOLD ME THAT IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THE CAR IS NOT UNDER THE WARRANTY ANYMOORE . I TOLD THEM THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG. THEY DIDN'T RESPOND. THE CAR HAS 24,000 MILES AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE.
SITUATION: CVT TRAMSMISSION RUNNING SMOOTHLY WHEN CAR WAS FIRST BOUGHT. I AM 3 WEEKS INTO OWNING THE VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE GOING OUT. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEXT RUN AND THERE ARE ZERO COMPUTER ERRORS. ISSUES: HIGH REVS AND JERKING OF VEHICLE WHEN GASSED. WHETHER I AM AT A STAND STILL OR ALREADY GIVING GAS. ANY INCREASED SPEED APPLIED BY THE GAS CAUSES THE JERKING MOTION. THERE IS A 2-5 SECOND DELAY FROM THE PEDAL TO THE TRANSMISSION KICKING. I HAVE ALMOST WRECKED MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN THIS ISSUE STARTED OCCURRING ON MY DRIVE. THIS CVT WOULD BE CONSIDERED VERY HAZARDOUS CONSIDERING THE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS I AM EXPERIENCING.
LED HEADLIGHTS ON THIS MODEL CONTINUE TO FLICKER WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECOME SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED NOT ALTERNATOR RELATED TO ENTIRE ASSEMBLY WORKMANSHIP ISSUES. COMPANY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. OTHER COMPLAINTS EXIST FROM OTHER PEOPLE.
GHOST TOUCH: MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME "GHOST TOUCH" PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ID NUMBER 11375393. FUNCTIONS ON THE TOUCH SCREEN RANDOMLY ACTIVATE THEMSELVES. THIS OCCURS BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE STOPPED. IT IS DIFFICULT TO CANCEL THESE RANDOM ACTIONS, AND IT IS DISTRACTING TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. I FIRST NOTICED IT AROUND 32K MILES, WHICH IS ABOUT 15K MILES AGO, AND IT OCCURS A FEW TIMES A WEEK.
GHOST TOUCH- RADIO/AUDIO CENTER RANDOMLY SWITCHES MODES, STATIONS, FUNCTIONS AND WILL ACCESS PHONE CONTACTS VIA BLUETOOTH AND MAKE RANDOM VOICE CALLS . ONCE CONNECTED, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DISCONNECT. OFTEN TIMES THE CALL WILL BE REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES. THIS OCCURS BOTH WHILE SITTING STILL OR WHEN DRIVING. IT IS VERY DISTRACTING TO TRY TO DISCONNECT RANDOM VOICE CALLS WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE IN TRYING TO DISCONNECT. YOU MUST CANCEL THE CALL ON THE ACTUAL PHONE IN VIOLATION OF HANDS-FREE LAWS IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA.
ALL ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED AFTER ONLY 15,000 MILES ON THIS NEW VEHICLE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS UNRELIABLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT RISK OF LOCKING UP DUE TO RUSTING OF ALL COMPONENTS. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MISSISSIPPI THEN HOUSED IN FLORIDA FOR 90% OF ITS LIFE. IT HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO FLOOD OR EXCESSIVE STANDING WATER, NOR UP NORTH AT ALL. HTTPS://VIDEO.37483.NET/HOUGN3BG
WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 MAZDA 6 TODAY, THE SUNROOF EXPLODED. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT STRUCK THE SUNROOF, I HAD NOT TRAVELED UNDER AN OVERPASS AND THERE WASN'T A DRAMATIC TEMPERATURE CHANGE. I HAVE BEEN READING OF THE INCREASED NUMBER OF INCIDENTS OF SUNROOFS EXPLODING FOR NO REASON. MY MAZDA DEALERSHIP DENIES THERE BEING ANY "ISSUES"; HOWEVER, CONSUMER REPORTS AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS.
I WAS DRIVING IN AN URBAN AREA, ON A CITY STREET, AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN. AS MY VEHICLE WAS SLOWING, I COVERED THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ANTICIPATION OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THE NEED TO BRAKE. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS JUST ABOUT CLEAR AND THERE WAS STILL PLENTY OF DISTANCE BETWEEN US. AT THAT TIME, THE SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT ENGAGED AND BROUGHT MY CAR TO A VIOLENT STOP. I FELT IMMEDIATE PAIN IN 2 LOCATIONS OF MY BACK, DUE TO THE JOLT. THERE WAS NOT AN IMPENDING ACCIDENT. IT WASN'T EVEN CLOSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 MAZDA 6. WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG COULD BE SEEN THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BROWNING MAZDA (LOCATED AT 18827 STUDEBAKER RD, CERRITOS, CA 90703, (562) 924-1414), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 MAZDA 6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BACK-UP CAMERA SCREEN WAS BLANK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MAZDA OF NORTH MIAMI (20700 NW 2ND AVE, MIAMI, FL 33169, (888) 866-4317) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,508.
DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT -LOWER BACK GETS VERY HOT ON LOWEST SETTING AND DOESN'T HEAT ACTUAL SEAT. CAN FEEL IT THROUGH A WINTER COAT. WHEN ACCIDENTLY TOUCHED WITH BARE SKIN, ALMOST BURNED.
BACK-UP CAMERA FROZE PROVIDING A FALSE PICTURE ON CABIN SCREEN, WHICH CAUSED A COLLISION. CAR WAS IN REVERSE BACKING UP. CABIN PICTURE SHOWED OBJECT OUTSIDE OF WARNING RANGE. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE. IF A CHILD WAS BEHIND THE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT.
ON THE NIGHT OF 6/22/2018 I WAS TRAVELING BACK TO MISSOURI FROM FLORIDA GOING ABOUT 60-65 MPH ON A INTERCHANGE FROM I-75 TO I-24 WHEN MY CAR LOCKED UP COMPLETELY, IT SENT ME INTO A SPIN THAT I OVER CORRECTED AND THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND HAD TO CORRECT MY STEERING FROM HITTING A GUARD RAIL WHILE AVOIDING 2 SEMIS AND 2 CARS. WE ACTUALLY GOT OUT OF THIS SITUATION BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH TO US OR THE CAR. FOUND OUT THIS MORNING 6/25/2018 THAT OUR TRANSMISSION WAS THE CAUSE AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED. IS THERE ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SITUATION. AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 18306 MILES ON IT AND IT'S A 2017 MAZDA6.
MAIN WIRING HARNESS NEAR ENGINE COILS CHEWED THRU BY RODENT WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE CITY. ONE WIRE WAS COMPLETELY CUT AND ANOTHER NEARBY WIRE WAS CHEWED. THESE WIRES CARY HIGH VOLTAGES AND CAN CAUSE FIRE IF SHORTED. THIS WIRING HARNESS MAY CONTAIN SOY BASED PRODUCTS WHICH CAN ATTRACT RODENTS. THIS CAR ENGINE COVER HAS ENOUGH ROOM FOR ROBENT TO GET INSIDE AND MAKE THEIR HOME NEAR THE WIRES. THE WHITE FIBERS MATERIALS YOU SEE IN THE IMAGE IS FROM THE ENGINE COVER INSULATION THAT RAT REMOVED FROM COVER.
I PURCHASED A 2017 MAZDA 6 GRAND TOURING IN JULY 2017, NEW FROM CLASSIC MAZDA IN MENTOR, OHIO. THE DUNLOP TIRES THAT CAME ON MY CARE ARE COMPLETE GARBAGE AND UNSUITABLE TO DRIVE ON IN THE RAIN. THEY BEGIN TO HYDROPLANE WITH EVEN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF WATER ON THE ROAD, AND ARE DOWN RIGHT DANGEROUS IN ANY WEATHER MORE SEVERE THAN LIGHT RAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS OF INSTANCES OF WHITE-KNUCKLE DRIVING 10-15MPH SLOWER THAN THE REST OF TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE CAR BECOMES UNDERIVABLE IN THE RAIN. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A VEHICLE OR TIRES THAT PERFORMED THIS POORLY NOR HAD SUCH A STARK TRANSITION FROM FEELING PLANTED AND CONFIDENCE INSPIRING IN THE DRY TO SLIDING OFF THE ROAD WHEN IT RAINS. THESE TIRES ARE GOING TO GET ME INJURED OR KILLED! AS BAD AS THEY ARE BRAND NEW ON A BRAND NEW CAR, I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE AS THESE BEGIN TO WEAR!!
I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ~40MPH ON A PAVED ROAD AT ABOUT 830PM, NO OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF MY, WHEN I HEARD A NOISE LIKE A CANNON GOING OFF. I LOOKED UP, AND MY SUN ROOF HAD COMPLETELY SHATTERED: THERE WERE LARGE CHUNKS OF GLASS INSIDE THE CAR, AND EXTENSIVE SCRATCH MARKS ON THE REAR TRUNK COVER. UPON PULLING OVER AND INSPECTING THE DAMAGE, IT APPEARED THAT THE SUN ROOF GLASS HAD EXPLODED OUTWARDS (AS SHOWN IN THE PROVIDED PICTURES), WITH SEVERAL PARTS OF THE REMAINING GLASS BEING DISTINCTLY ANGLED UPWARDS AND VERY LITTLE ACTUAL SHATTERED GLASS BEING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS CAR, AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS JUST OVER A MONTH AND A HALF OLD WITH A 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER AND A 10 YEAR SERVICE PACKAGE, I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THAT IT WAS "MORE THAN LIKELY A ROCK HITTING IT", THAT "THEY'VE NEVER HAD ANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING", AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO JUST CONTACT MY INSURANCE AND HAVE THEM PAY. THIS LANGUAGE AND RESPONSE IS IN LOCK-STEP WITH SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS THAT I HAVE VIEWED REGARDING THIS ISSUE, WHICH APPEARS TO BE QUITE WIDESPREAD. MANY OF THEM REPORTED THAT THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIPS IN QUESTION WAS TO BLAME EXTERNAL FACTORS, VERY COMMONLY ROCKS. IN MY CASE, GIVEN THAT I WAS DRIVING ALONE ON A WELL-PAVED ROAD AND THE SUN ROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME, I FIND IT INCREDIBLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A ROCK SOMEHOW HIT IT AT THE EXACT ANGLE NECESSARY TO CAUSE THE ENTIRE THING TO SIMPLY FALL APART. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WELL, I WOULDN'T FEEL SAFE HAVING A CAR WITH A SUN ROOF AT ALL.

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2017 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured August 12, 2016, to September 28, 2016 and equipped with optional accessory fog lights. Due to an incorrect combination switch being installed, the turn signals may not automatically cancel by the rotation of the steering wheel. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
