Summary

CVT Transmission stops accelerating at some point after driving. RPMs don’t increase and vehicle struggles to maintain speed. Speed only increases or decreases due to incline or decline of the road. It’s dangerous as it mostly occurs on freeways/highways. Problem has been happening for 2+ years. Dealer cannot confirm as no check engine light code is created and problem ceases to exist only after engine is turned off. Vehicle is available to be inspected.

Summary

AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM AND CRUISE CONTROL WILL STOP WORKING. ON AVERAGE IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 20 TO 25 MILES AND REMAINS OFF FOR 2 TO 3 MINUTES. IT DOES NOT OCCUR AT REGULAR INTERVALS THOUGH, THIS IS JUST THE AVERAGE. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET NISSAN TO REPLACE THE SENSOR WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DID NOT WANT TO AND FINALLY WHEN THEY AGREED THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO HIGH DEMAND SO I'M NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER WHO HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. THE SENSOR STILL DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND HAVING THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING/AUTOMATIC BRAKING NOT RELIABLE IS A SAFETY ISSUE. HAVING THE CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORK IS JUST AN ANNOYANCE. AT NISSAN'S SUGGESTIONS, I'VE CLEANED THE SENSOR MANY TIMES AND I'VE ENSURED THAT NOTHING IS BLOCKING THE SENSOR. IT IS SIMPLY A FAULTY, UNRELIABLE PART AND I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW. IT TOOK MANY MONTHS OF COMPLAINING AND SENDING THEM PICTURES OF IT NOT WORKING BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR THE FIRST TIME. THAT FIXED THE ISSUE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT NOW THE SECOND SENSOR ON THE CAR HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR OVER A YEAR. I'M ATTACHING A COUPLE OF PICTURES FOR EXAMPLE. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED OVER A 100 TIMES TO ME THOUGH.

MAIN ST, LAS CRUCES, NM 88005, (575) 523-5571) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND ALTERNATOR TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

ADAS IS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. THE VEHICLE BREAKS UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT CAUSE OR WARNING. THE PROBLEM IS MOST COMMON WHEN CROSSING RAILROAD TRACKS. THIS PRESENTS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD TO MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. THE SYSTEM NO HAS NO FUNCTION AND I AM UNABLE TO UTILIZE THE MOST BASIC FEATURES, TO INCLUDE CRUISE CONTROL. THE ADAS SYSTEM LIGHTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH, EVEN AFTER ATTEMPTS TO RESET THE SYSTEM.

ON 02/09/2021 APPROXIMATELY 8PM, ARRIVED TO MY DESTINATION, TURNED CAR OFF, WENT INSIDE. APPROXIMATELY 1.5 HOURS LATER (9:30PM) WENT BACK TO MY CAR TO BRING MY SUITCASE AND PILLOW IN. WHEN I REMOVED MY PILLOW FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE SEAT, NOTICED THE BIG SCORCHED AREA AND THE SEAMS WERE BRIGHT RED, THE SEAT WAS BURNING HOT TO TOUCH. BURNING SMELL WAS NOTED, AND THE SEAT SWITCH WAS STILL ON THOUGH THE CAR WAS OFF OVER A HOUR. THE OTHER SEATS WERE NORMAL ( COOL ) TO TOUCH. I IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES AND STAYED BY THE CAR MAKING SURE THE SEAT AREA COOLED TO NORMAL. NOTE.....MY PILLOW WAS SCORCHED TOO. THE CAR IS A 2017 NISSAN MURANO, BOUGHT IT NEW.

I TOOK CAR BACK IN TODAY FOR SERVICE AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME I HAD 2 BROKEN WHEEL STUDS, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MY TIRE TO FALL OFF. IN THE REPAIR PAPERWORK, THEY ONLY WROTE THEY REPLACED LUG NUTS. THE ISSUE IS WHETHER MISSING LUG NUTS OR BROKEN WHEEL STUDS, THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER LET ME DRIVE OFF THAT LOT WITH A TIRE ISSUE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND CAUSED MY LIFE.

HAS ALSO APPLIED BRAKES ON ONE OCCASION WHEN THERE WAS NO VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. THE FEB SENSOR WAS UPDATED IN 2019 WITH A NEW PART THAT DOES NOT SEND FALSE TRIGGERS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MURANOS FROM 2015-2018. THIS SAFETY FEATURE IS ONE OF THE REASONS WE BOUGHT THIS CAR AND NOW THAT FEATURE IS NOT RELIABLE. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD SUPPLY UPDATED PART AND LET CUSTOMER PAY LABOR TO HAVE THIS SAFETY FEATURE BE MORE RELIABLE.

MY CAR HAS A FRONT EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM IS LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR, IN LOWER GRILLE. THE SENSOR DETECTS WHEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU HAS STOPPED. AS YOU GET CLOSER TO THE VEHICLE, IF YOU DO NOT STOP, THE CAR WILL SOUND A 3-BEEP ALERT NOTIFYING YOU TO STOP. IF YOU STILL DO NOT STOP, THE CAR WILL APPLY THE BRAKES AND FORCE THE CAR TO STOP TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT., I WAS DRIVING HOME, WHEN THE 3-BEEP ALERT SOUNDED, AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY STARTED FLASHING RED AND WHITE LIGHTS. A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY STATED THAT A CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THEN THE BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY, AND THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE BRAKES ENGAGED SO HARD AND SO QUICKLY, THAT IT THREW ME FORWARD IN THE SEAT. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP AND NO CRASH WAS IMMINENT. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS, BUT NISSAN WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WON'T REPLACE THE SENSOR. THE DEALER TOLD ME MY SENSOR BRACKET WAS SLIGHTLY BENT, BUT THE VEHILE WAS BOUGHT NEW AND NEVER IN AN ACCEDENT I ASKED IF THE BRAKET WAS INSTALLED FORM THE FACTORY SLIGHTLY BENT THEY SAID IT COULD OF BEEN? THIS DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, IF THE SENSOR BRACKET WAS BENT IT SHOULD NEVER OF WORKED FROM THE START??? , IF THIS WERE THE CASE, THERE WILL BE A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY INDICATING THE SENSOR IS OBSTRUCTED OR NOT FUNTIONING, AND THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM WILL TURN OFF. ON JANUARY 22, 2020 AROUND 5:30 AM I DISCOVERED THAT MY BACKUP CAMERA WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. THE BACKUP CAMERA IS SHOWING THE RED, GREEN AND YELLOW GUIDE LINES BUT THE SCREEN IS BLACK. IT IS NOT RETURNING ANY IMAGES FROM BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS AT HOME IN A PARKING SPOT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. ONE WEEK LATER TO TODAY, JANUARY 28,2020, THE BACKUP CAMERA IS STILL NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IT DID WORK FOR A FEW DAYS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED AFTER JANUARY 22,2020 AND THEN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. IT SEEM TO BE WORKING OFF AND ON AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN, MY VEHICLE MILLAGE WAS AT 36,099. NISSAN OF CORAL SPRINGS FLORIDA STATED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000 AND WILL NOT HONOR MY VEHICLE. I AM A MOTHER OF TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE REVERSING IN MY NISSAN BECAUSE LOOKING THROUGH THE BACK OR REAR GLASS OF THE NISSAN MURANO IS VERY DIFFICULT DUE TO ITS DESIGN.

THE ABS LIGHT, CRASH SENSOR LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE CAR IS ON. THE THREE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AT THE SAME TIME, AND WILL REMAIN ON UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON EACH TIME THE CAR IS STARTED, AND WHEN THEY DO COME ON, IT IS NOT ONLY AT THE TIME OF START UP. THEY USUALLY COME ON AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. THEY HAVE COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, STARTING UP FROM A RED LIGHT, WHILE DRIVING (VARIOUS SPEEDS), ETC. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON AS TO WHEN THE LIGHTS COME ON. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, NOTHING ELSE IS GOING ON WITH THE CAR--ONLY NORMAL USAGE--NO WEIRD SOUNDS, FEELINGS, ETC. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS. PER THE DEALERSHIP, THE ABS SENSORS, THE SPEED CONTROL SENSORS AND THE ACTUATOR HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED, BUT THE LIGHTS STILL PRESENT THEMSELVES. NISSAN TECHNICIANS HAVE ADVISED THAT THEY WILL NEED TO BRING A NISSAN ENGINEER TO HELP THEM WITH THE ISSUE. THE CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD AND HAS 19K MILES ON IT. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE THAT I SHOULD BE DEALING WITH AND IT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED PERMANENTLY SO IT IS NOT A RECURRING ISSUE.

THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 38000 MILES ON IT AND IS 2 YEARS OLD. THE FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM HAS INCREASED OVER TIME. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE SENSOR AT THE FRONT BUMPER IS CLEAN. THIS ERROR WILL HAPPEN ON DAYS WITH NO RAIN OR SNOW. AT FIRST, IT ERRORED WHEN EXITING A TUNNEL, BUT NOW IT OCCURS RANDOMLY (BUT SO FAR ONLY WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL). SINCE IT IS OVER THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY, NISSAN REQUIRES A DIAGNOSIS FROM THE DEALER. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE A RECALL. WHILE ACCELERATING MIXED BETWEEN PULLING FROM ZERO MPH UPWARDS OF 40MPH THE VEHICLE HAS A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING SOUND. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY ROADWAY WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. THE TRANSMISSION IN QUESTION IS VERY UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE IT ALMOST STOPS FOR A FEW SECONDS. WE HAVE SECONDS AWAY FROM 18 WHEELERS CRASHING INTO US, OR CARS WHERE YOU HAVE TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC. THE RPM GAUGE INCREASES AND THE ENGINE REVS HIGH BUT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT INCREASE IN SPEED. AFTER YOU STRAIGHTEN OUT THE STEERING WHEEL THE VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN DOWN SHIFTS AND TAKES OFF. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC TO PASS CAUSE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT INCREASE IN SPEED AND IT LEAVES YOU TOOLING ALONG IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND I TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY TROUBLE CODES STORED IN THE VEHICLES SYSTEM. IT DOES THIS AT LEAST ONCE PER MONTH AND NO TROUBLE LIGHTS COME ON INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND NOTHING HAS COME OF IT. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE INQUIRIES ABOUT THIS ONLINE TO NISSAN DIRECTLY AND VEHICLE MECHANIC TYPE SITES. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM NISSAN THEMSELVES BUT OTHER MECHANIC TYPE SITES HAVE COME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION, IT HAS TO BE THE A COMPUTER MODULE OR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM. SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM OR MODULES THEMSELVES. NO TROUBLE CODES THEREFORE NOTHING IS WRONG, IS NISSAN'S STANCE. MY CAR HAS A FRONT EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM. THE SENSOR FOR THIS SYSTEM IS LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR, UNDERNEATH ONE OF THE HEAD LIGHTS. THE SENSOR DETECTS WHEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU HAS STOPPED. AS YOU GET CLOSER TO THE VEHICLE, IF YOU DO NOT STOP, THE CAR WILL SOUND A 3-BEEP ALERT NOTIFYING YOU TO STOP. IF YOU STILL DO NOT STOP, THE CAR WILL APPLY THE BRAKES AND FORCE THE CAR TO STOP TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. ONE NIGHT, I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A CITY STREET, WHEN THE 3-BEEP ALERT SOUNDED, AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY STARTED FLASHING RED AND WHITE LIGHTS. THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY STATING THAT A CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THEN THE BRAKES ENGAGED SUDDENLY, AND THE CAR ALMOST CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE BRAKES ENGAGED SO HARD AND SO QUICKLY, THAT IT THREW ME FORWARD IN THE SEAT. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP AND NO CRASH WAS IMMINENT. THE CLOSEST CAR TO ME WAS 2-3 CAR LENGTHS AHEAD, AND IT HAD NOT STOPPED. THANKFULLY, THE STREET WAS NOT BUSY AT THE TIME, AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS, BUT NISSAN WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO 2 NISSAN DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WON'T REPLACE THE SENSOR. THE FIRST DEALER TOLD ME MY SENSOR WAS DIRTY, BUT THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, IF THE SENSOR IS DIRTY, THERE WILL BE A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY INDICATING THE SENSOR IS OBSTRUCTED, AND THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM WILL TURN OFF. THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. THE SECOND NISSAN DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON MY CAR AND RESET THE SENSOR. I KEEP BEING TOLD TO BRING THE CAR BACK IF THE ISSUE HAPPENS AGAIN, BUT THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF ISSUE YOU WANT TO WAIT TO HAVE HAPPEN AGAIN. WHAT IF I AM ON A BUSY STREET OR THE HIGHWAY? I COULD HAVE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS.

WE LOOKED AROUND AND COULDN'T TELL WHAT HAPPENED. I LOOKED UP AND THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE MOONROOF THEN GLASS STARTED FALLING. MY KIDS IN THE BACKSEAT HAD MORE GLASS THAN THE FRONT. THE GLASS THAT WAS REMAINING WAS CURVED UP WHICH SEAMED STRANGE BECAUSE NO ONE TOUCHED THE ROOF. WE HAVE A PANORAMIC MOONROOF BUT IT WAS ONLY THE MOVABLE PIECE EXPLODED. ROOF AND WINDOWS WERE CLOSED, IT WAS 85 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND WE HAD THE AIR CONDITIONING ON. I CALLED NISSAN AND OPENED AN INCIDENT AND THEY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY STATING GLASS ISN'T COVERED AND SINCE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE SHOWING IT EXPLODED AND WASN'T HIT THEY ARE NOT LIABLE. I HAVE FULL COVERAGE GLASS INSURANCE SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY EITHER WAY IT IS THE POINT THAT THIS IS NOT MY FAULT AND AFTER LOOKING AT ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH THESE GLASS ROOFS IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CAR MANUFACTURER.

TOOK IT BACK AND THEY NOW SAY NISSAN IS "ENGINEERING" THE PROBLEM AND DON'T RECOMMEND A FIX. TOOK IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 75MPH WHEN IT WENT OFF AND IT DISABLED MY CRUISE CONTROL. THAT WAS QUITE STARTLING AND IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE OFFICE AND FILED A CASE. THEY DON'T SEEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, YET I SEE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I CHECK FORUMS ON THE INTERNET.

IN THE MEAN TIME THE CRUISE DOES NOT OPERATE AND THE FRONT COLLISION AVOIDANCE DOES NOT WORK (WAITING 5 WEEKS NOW). CANNOT DEPEND UPON THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE EVEN THOUGH THEY ADVERTISE IT.

I HAVE A 2017 NISSAN MURANO. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 12 IN THE AFTERNOON WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THE SUNROOF GLASS AND HEADLINER WERE BOTH CLOSED. I SLIGHTLY OPENED THE HEADLINER AND COULD SEE THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND LOOKED ON TOP OF THE CAR TO FIND THE FRONT SECTION OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF HAD COMPLETELY EXPLODED AND WAS SHATTER. THE GLASS WAS ACTUALLY PROTRUDING UPWARD SO IT WAS OBVIOUS NOTHING HAD FALLING FROM THE SKY ON TOP OF IT. THE GLASS, THEN GAVE WAY AND COMPLETELY FELL ON THE FABRIC HEADLINER. WE THEN SPENT THE NEXT HOUR AND A HALF ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK WHERE THE VEHICLES WAS THEN TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER. AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT, IT WAS 75 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND CLEAR DAY. I WAS DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR.

IT'S JUST A WAY IT IS. I FEEL HELPLESS BY NISSAN OVERALL EXPERIENCE.
