Summary

When driving on the expressway at highway speeds in this 2021 Ram 2500, the side mirrors started to vibrate and folded/slammed into the vehicle. Rear and blind spot visibility was eliminated. Fortunately, a passenger could adjust passenger side and driver could adjust driver sidemirror, but they are now damaged and do not properly stay in position. A online Dodge Ram Forum indicates this is a common problem. DANGEROUS!

Summary

The Blind Spot Detector is not working. The van can be inspected upon request. This is a large vehicle and blind spot detection is an extremely important safety feature. A Dodge dealer found the following stored codes: U1700-87, c100B29, and c100e29 - I don't know if these are blind spot sensor codes or not. They have indicated they do not know how to fix it. This van is a Ram ProMaster 3500 that Jayco has converted to a class B RV (Jayco Swift T). It has not been inspected by Jayco or any others. The message center in the dash indicates the Blind Spot Detector is Disabled each time the van is started. This has appeared from the time of purchase of the van in early July. It continues to this day.

Summary

On August 5, I descended on California Highway 88 East from the Carson Pass; less than 1 mile down a warning appeared to “Service Brake System”. The warning disappeared but the “brake” light on the instrument cluster remained on. I took the vehicle to Carson Dodge on August 6. The dealer performed diagnostics and made two repairs based on generated codes (C1223-68 & P0556). I picked it up on August 13 and drove about 200 miles; the warning re-appeared each time I drove it. I returned the vehicle to Carson Dodge on August 16. The “brake” warning was visible both times it was in for service. The 8/16 work order shows the same problem codes as the August 6 work order. The 8/16 order states that the technician was told by Star (Dodge technical support) that the warning was “normal operations caused by extended braking from a high altitude” so no repairs were required (and ignoring the two codes). I contacted Dodge Customer Service on 8/16. Jagen, a Promaster Case Manager called on 8/17 and told me that he investigated the issue and the “Service Brake System” safety warning was normal when going downhill. I asked if it was normal then where this was published; he said it was proprietary information and not published. I asked if he would provide confirmation in writing; he refused. “Jim”, a supervisor, called on 8/24; he repeated that going downhill would result in the warning light coming on and this was normal operations. That a safety warning consistently appears in normal driving on ordinary roads (e.g. from South Lake Tahoe to Carson City on Highway 50) and is “normal operations” is absurd. If I ignore this warning as “normal operations”, then how do I know when there is an actual problem? If normal, why isn’t it published anywhere? I am unable to confidently use the vehicle as I can’t know if the brakes will function. Brake reliability is a life-threatening safety issue, yet Dodge is telling me to ignore the vehicle’s safety warnings.

Summary

August 6, 2021 NHTSA Safety Issue ID: 21V3960000 As a first-time purchaser of an RV, what I had hoped would be an answer to some of my life’s difficulties has turned out to be a nightmare. I walked into nothing less than a predatory vehicle purchasing experience with General RV in Ashland VA and the worst customer care experience ever from Thor Motor Coach, based in Elkhart, IN. Currently, I am stuck with a brand new 2022 Thor Scope Class B RV that has been sitting in my driveway since the day I purchased it on June 29th, 2021. Between July 1st and July 7th 2021, I have spoken with Thor Motor Coach customer care many times. On July 15th, I wrote a letter to Thor and delivered it by email per a rep's suggestion. 1.There’s a Safety Recall on Thor Motor Coach Scope 18M I learned through the Thor Motor Coach owner’s blog that there is a safety recall on some of the Thor Scope 2022 vehicles. The article dated June 5th 2021 https://www.rvtravel.com states that letters would go out to owners about the safety recall by July 26th 2021. I contacted Thor Motor Coach and spoke to a customer care rep, who verified on July 12, 2021, that there is a safety recall on the VIN associated with the vehicle I purchased, specifically that the Flex 190 solar panel junction box may overheat due to an electrical short and cause a fire and potential injury. Thor Motor Coach customer care recommended that I not drive the vehicle due to the safety recall, so in addition to the low clearance generator/batteries, and bottoming out issue that I've reported to NHTSA, the vehicle is not in safe driving condition and therefore remains in my driveway. To date, I have not received any written notification about the problem nor potential unsafe condition of the vehicle although NHTSA has posted notices under the Safety Issue ID number 21V3960000, but not the VIN.

Summary

Vehicle bottomed out and lodged on concrete entering driveway. Thor Scope Ram Promaster 1500 Chassis sits low and Thor installed Cummins Onan generator and 2 Trojan batteries under the chassis, that sit 2 or more inches below the rear axle against the Cummins install guidelines. The generator needs 6 to 8 inches for ventilation according to manual and RV mechanics. Both generator and batteries collocated together coming in contact with road debris, objects, water on roadways may cause critical failure of systems resulting in hazardous conditions (stalling, loss of control, fire, explosion) to drivers.
