Summary

Problems with oil leaking on rear seal. No notice given until light came on that said stop engine now. Upon inspection all oil was gone. My mechanic said this is an unfortunate issue with this engine because the pressure release hole is so small that any dirt can block it and but a lot of pressure on the back seal until it bursts and leaks out oil. This could have blown my engine and it only has 67000 miles. Definitely a manufacturers defect.

Summary

Our car was parked outside for the weekend and we were planning to return home. It was around 14°F outside and starting to snow. Approximately 10 minutes into the trip home, the 2016 Chevy Equinox started to make some faint abnormal sounds. Shortly after the instrument cluster displayed a Stabilitrak Warning. I presumed an issue with the traction control and continued to drive. Shortly after the Equinox went into a failsafe/power limiting mode. We (my wife and young daughters were with me) were within a few miles of a gas station so we decided to try to drive there to not be in the cold weather. Before reaching a gas station, the car stalled and needed to be towed to a service shop. The car was diagnosed with a blown rear main seal causing catastrophic engine failure. It was determined the PCV valve froze causing excess crankcase pressure, blowing the rear main seal. The Equinox had 89,277 miles on it at the time. "Tow" costs: $149.18 Engine Replacement Cost: $6504.30 At no point did any oil related (level, pressure) indicator appear.

Summary

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that his vehicle had been involved in two accidents and that the airbags failed to deploy as needed in both accidents. In the first accident, the contact stated that while driving at a low rate of speed, a tree had fallen right in front of his vehicle. The contact was not able to stop the vehicle in time which caused him to run over the tree. The contact stated that the airbags did not deploy. The contact did not suffer any injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they repaired the damage to the vehicle. The second failure occurred while the contact was at a stoplight and another vehicle on the opposite side of traffic had hit his vehicle's driver side at a high rate of speed. The air bags again did not deploy upon impact. The contact and his wife were both taken to the hospital where he was treated for whiplash to his neck and arms. After months of chronic pain, the contact also had back surgery. The contact's wife was treated for injuries to her left knee and stomach, as well as whiplash to her neck. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an independent body shop for repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

I went to pick up my child from school and when we were leaving my check engine light came on and my car stalled out. I got it started and drove about 20 feet and it stalled again. Got it started again and drove another 20 feet, stalled again. I made it to the stoplight at the school and it stalled again. I had to stop for gas and as I was leaving from the gas pump it stalled in front of an oncoming car. I made it to the stop light and it stalled at the light. I managed to make it home. I just had an oil change on 07/23/2021. I'm regular with maintenance and at the dealership but the reason I file a complaint is because I'm finding out this is an issue Chevrolet has known about for awhile. And people are talking about how its an expensive fix that is short term before returning. Plus, it can't its not safe stalling on the road. I have around 66000 miles on it. I mainly drive locally. I hasn't been inspect yet. I called and I'm waiting to hear from the dealership as I type. I had to wait almost 2 weeks to get in for the oil change. The only thing I've notice was the check engine light before it stalls. I have had issue with air conditioning going in and out and it does accelerate that well but neither does my 2008 Equinox. My 2016 Chevrolet Equinox caught on fire about 10 minutes after my accident. I rear ended a pickup truck going about 5-10 miles an hour. Although nobody was hurt, I don't think SUVs should catch on fire. I'm unaware if this problem is frequent in 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, but there wasn't any warning of the sudden fire that appeared from the engine, i.e. sirens, sounds from within the car. I'm unaware if Chevrolet, law enforcement or the insurance company has inspected the vehicle after the accident?

Summary

While on the freeway, I was caught in “stop-and-go” traffic. I had previously (about 2 days) noticed that there was a very minuscule delay in between the time from when I pressed on the accelerator to when the car would speed up, but was less than 1 second, so didn’t think it was a big deal. During the traffic incident, all of the sudden, when I pressed on the accelerator to go from a mostly stopped position to advance forward, my Equinox completely stalled. It was like someone turned the car off, but still had the lights and stereo on. I had to put my car in park, turn the car totally off, and restart it, and place it into drive, in order for it to advance forward. The next time I had to slow down for traffic, I slowed almost to a stop, put my foot on the accelerator, and the car stalled again. Keep in mind, my car wasn’t completely stopped at any of these times, so the cars behind me were caught off guard when I had to suddenly stop, put my car in park, turn it off, and then back on again, in order to move forward. This is dangerous during rush hour, on the most congested freeway in my state (which is where I live and was located). I was almost rear-ended multiple times. This occurred around 20 times before I could pull to the side. I called Chevrolet and they directed me the nearest dealership. The problem was continuous until I arrived. The issue was: Intake Camshaft Solenoid Control Circuit - Solenoid Internal Failure and they replaced Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid (part #12679099). My car had 46,661 miles, and under warranty, but it appears to be a common problem. There were ZERO warning/dash lights that warned me that something was wrong, and when the car died, I only knew because I would push the accelerator and it wouldn’t move. The dealership confirmed the issue, and I have the receipt from the replacement (covered under warranty), as well as a video of it occurring. There are MANY forums that discuss this issue with 2016 Equinox models.

Summary

While driving on the interstate through a heavy rain storm, with the windshield wipers on 'high', they suddenly stopped working. The view through the windshield was instantly obscured. I barely was able to pull into the left hand breakdown lane and out of the traffic lane, by rolling the driver side window down and looking out the side window. If I had been traveling in one of the middle lanes and had to navigate through traffic in the other lanes, I am not sure I would have been able to get out of the travel lanes without a crash. If I had been on I10 instead of I95, there would have been no breakdown lane to move to due to construction and lane closures. There was no warning prior to the failure. When I finally got home I found the plastic ball joint linkage had popped apart. The car has 66,240 miles on it.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR. IT WAS POURING DOWN RAIN AND THERE WERE SEMI TRUCKS IN FRONT OF ME AND TO THE LEFT OF ME SPRAYING WATER. THERE WAS ALSO A SEMI BEHIND ME. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS LITERALLY STOPPED WORKING. AFTER A NANOSECOND OF PANIC, I TURNED MY FLASHERS ON AND PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING. AFTER CONSIDERING FOR A FEW SECONDS, I DECIDED IT WAS NOT SAFE WHERE I WAS, SO I SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY DROVE SEVERAL MILES ON THE SHOULDER TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE NEXT EXIT. I THEN PULLED INTO A BUSINESS LOT. MY WIPERS WERE STOPPED ON MY WINDSHIELD.....THE LEFT ONE WAS PARTIALLY OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. I PICKED IT UP AND PLACED IT BACK TOWARD THE CENTER OF WINDSHIELD. BACK INSIDE THE CAR, I TRIED TO TURN THE WIPERS ON AGAIN. I COULD HEAR MECHANICAL NOISE THAT SOUND LIKE THEY SHOULD WORK, BUT THEY DID NOT MOVE. THE CAR IS NOW AT A DEALER FOR SERVICE.

I HAD NO CHOICE BUT CONTINUE MY TRIP WITH LITTLE VISIBILITY AS SEMI-TRUCKS PASSED ME SPLASHING EVEN MORE WATER ON MY WINDSHIELD. IN EARLY NOVEMBER OF 2020 MY CHEVROLET EQUINOX ENGINE FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND BURNING OIL. MY LOW OIL LIGHT NEVER WENT ON AND WE DID REGULAR OIL CHANGES WHICH STILL DIDNT MATTER. WE WERE PUTTING OIL IN IT EVERY FEW DAYS UNTIL FINALLY IT WOULDNT START ANYMORE. I HAD IT THEN TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED AS IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSE TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION RESULTING IN A BILL OF OVER $2,200. THEY NEVER FIXED THE LOW OIL LIGHT, AND WE HAVE FOUND THAT NOW EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN FIXED IT IS STILL USING OIL EXCESSIVELY SO I AM CONSTANTLY CHECKING IT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO DISPUTE THE MATTER BUT THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT I BELIEVE IT TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THAT MANY CHEVY EQUINOXES HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES RESULTING IN ENGINE DAMAGE, YET THEY STILL HAVE REFUSED TO LOOK INTO IT AND SAID TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU HENCE THIS EMAIL. I AM SEEKING A RECALL ON THE 2016 EQUINOX REGARDING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND DEFECTIVE LOW OIL LIGHT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE TO DIE ON A HIGHWAY AND POSSIBLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE THIS BEING LOOKED INTO AND BE KEPT INFORMED ON ITS STATUS. THANK YOU

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY IN A RAIN STORM WHEN MY WIPERS JUST STOPPED WORKING. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE THRUWAY AND WAIT IT OUT UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED. MY FATHER IN LAW (RETIRED AUTOMOTIVE TEACHER) DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A BALL JOINT ON THE WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD COME APART DISCONNECTING THE WIPER TRANSMISSION FROM THE WIPER MOTOR. HE REPLACED THE WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW UNIT FROM CHEVROLET PARTS DEPARTMENT WHICH WAS MODIFIED TO INCLUDE A DEFLECTOR TO KEEP THE ELEMENTS AWAY FROM THE WIPER TRANSMISSION BALL JOINTS. I LEARNED GM HAD A RECALL ON THE 2013 MODEL YEAR EQUINOX FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT NEVER EXTENDED IT TO THE 2016 MODEL YEAR DESPITE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS.

WAS TOLD ISSUE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY EQUINOX'S FROM A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, BUT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE PROBLEM. ALSO WAS TOLD BY THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC THAT THIS PART/COMPONENT SHOULD LAST THE LIFE TIME OF THE ENGINE AND USUALLY NEEDS REPLACED AFTER 100K OR MORE MILES. THE CORPORATE RESPONSE WAS THE WIPER SYSTEM WAS NOT CONSIDERED AN ESSENTIAL FUNCTION EVEN THO IT SHOULD BE IN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE SHOP SINCE WE ARE IN A DOWNPOUR RIGHT NOW AND IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN THERE. THE SHOP SAID THE MOTOR WAS FINE, IT WAS THE WIPER TRANSMISSION THAT IS COMPLETELY BURNT OUT/SHOT! THIS CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD THE WIPER TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETELY SHOT/BURNT OUT.

EVERYTHING TURNS OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND ALL POWER SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO STOP AND THROW IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT. IT USUALLY DOES RESTART RIGHT AWAY BUT THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MOST OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR SLOW DOWN, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHILE IN DRIVE. VEHICLE STALLS WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN STOPPED. VEHICLE STALLED ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE PISTON RINGS OR CRANK SENSOR. *TR

MY COMPLAINT & SAFETY CONCERN RELATES TO THE DEEP WINDOW TINTING THAT IS ALLOWED IN MANY OF THE SOUTHERN STATES AND IT'S IMPACT ON ACCIDENTS -- PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLISTS, AND OTHER MOTORISTS (MOTORCYCLES INCLUDED). THE AMOUNT OF ALLOWABLE TINTING HAS TO IMPACT PEOPLE'S SAFETY -- ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, DURING RAINSTORMS, FOG, ETC. WITH MORE MOTORISTS ON THE ROADS, I SHOULD THINK IT'S TIME TO REVISIT THE TINTING LAWS. THANK YOU!

ON DECEMBER 10TH, 2019, AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON INTERSTATE 694 IN ARDEN HILLS MN, THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE, AND THEN EVENTUALLY STALLED. NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM EVER CAME ON. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSSHIP, AND 2 DAYS LATER WAS INFORMED BY THEM THAT THE ENGINE HAD RUN OUT OF OIL, AND I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE THAT WOULD COST ME $8500. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MOTOR, THE 2.4L ECOTEC. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST GM RESULTED IN A $42 MILLION JUDGEMENT AGAINST GM, BUT IT ONLY COVERED MODEL YEARS 2010-2013. A 2ND CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST GM TO COVER MODEL YEARS 2014-2017, THIS LAWSUIT IS STILL WORKING IT'S WAY THROUGH THE COURTS. GM HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE. INFORMATION ON THESE LAWSUITS CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.CLASSACTION.ORG, AND WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. I AM ASKING THAT GM REPAIR MY VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE, NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS.

CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP STATED WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION, LATER CALLED TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED AND HE TOLD THEM IT WAS FASTENER OR BALL JOINT TO KEEP IN PLACE CORRODED AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE COST IS ABOUT $565 TO BE REPLACED. THEN THE CHEVY SERVICE REP STATED THEY DONT HAVE THE PART TO BE REPLACED, WOULD TAKE ABOUT A COUPLE OF DAYS BECAUSE OF GM ISSUES WITH STRIKE. AS WELL AS CHEVY DOESN'T HAVE ANY LOANER CARS WHILE MY EQUINOX STAYED AT THE DEALER. IT WAS ALSO RAIN EXPECTED AGAIN DURING THE DAY. TRULY UNACCEPTABLE WHEN THERE HAVE BEEN PRECIOUS ISSUES WITH WINDSHIELD WIPERS.

ON 10/7/19 WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 CHEVY EQUINOX HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY, IT BEGAN TO RAIN TORRENTIALLY. I TURNED MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON HIGH. SUDDENLY THE LEFT DRIVERS SIDE WIPER FLUNG TO THE LEFT RIGHT OFF OF THE WINDOW HANGING BY THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AND MIRROR. I WAS LEFT WITH JUST ONE WIPER IN NEAR DARKNESS AND POURING RAIN 10 MILES FROM HOME. IT WAS PRETTY SCARY. ONCE HOME, MY HUSBAND AN ELECTRICIAN LOOKED AND ADVISED ME THAT ONE OF THE PLASTIC CONNECTORS ON THE WIPER TRANSMISSION JUST CAME APART. HE FEELS IT WAS POORLY ENGINEERED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT MY SAFETY IN JEOPARDY AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE AROUND ME. NOTE: I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER 50,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

Summary

PASSENGER AIR BAG ALARM GOES OFF WHEN SEAT IS EMPTY AND OCCASIONALLY THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS OFF WHILE AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT DUE TO A FAULTY CONNECTOR. THIS HAPPENS SPORADICALLY DURING ALL TYPES OF DRIVING, IDLING OR WHILE PARKED. THE CONCERN THAT DURING AN IMPACT THE FAULTY CONNECTOR WILL CAUSE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO NOT DEPLOY WHILE A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT IS HIGHLY WORRY SOME AND EVEN THOUGH CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE CONDITION, THEY WON'T RECALL OR FIX THE ISSUE. TIMING CHAIN FAILURE CAN CAUSE SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND SUDDEN STALLING DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION LEADING TO POSSIBLE COLLISIONS AS THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUES IN THEIR 2.4L ENGINES AND YET HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL EVEN THOUGH CATROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE AND PROBABLY LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL COLLISIONS. ENGINE SHUTOFF DUE TO CHAIN STRETCH OR FAILURE CAN OCCUR AS ANY TIME DURING DRIVING OR ENGINE RUNNING CONDITIONS.

DRIVING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE JANUARY 22 2019 FREEZING COLD OUT DAY 15' AND MY CAR JUST DIES. I CAME TO A ROLLING STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TRIED STARTING CAR AND NOTHING, THEN I HEAR A GRINDING NOISE AS I TURN THE KEY, GET OUT AND OPEN THE HOOD. I TURN KEY AGAIN AND I HEAR THIS GRINDING NOISE AGAIN. NO WARNING LIGHTS NO INDICATORS NOTHING. CALL AAA BUT THEY CAN'T PICK ME UP ON THE TURNPIKE NEEDS TO BE A SEPARATE TOW TRUCK COMPANY. AFTER 45 MINUTES FREEZING IN THE CAR THE TOW TRUCK GUY SHOWS UP. TAKES A LOOK AT THE TRUCK CHECK OIL AND SAYS I HAVE NO OIL. TURNED KEY AND DASH DID NOT SHOW ANY OIL LIGHTS LIT. LOOKED AT THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AND THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER IT SEE PICS. HAD TO GET TOWED TO YARD THEN CALLED AAA TO TAKE ME TO ELKINS CHEVY. ELKIN'S CHEVY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE PCV VALVE FROZE CAUSING THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BREAK CAUSING ENGINE TO LOSE ALL OIL AND CEASE UP WITH POSSIBLE PIECES IN THE TRANSMISSION. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SENSORS LIT UP AT ALL STILL. DEALER SAID I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY 88,575 MILES SO I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING. NEW ENGINE $6,000 USED $4,500 PLUS WHAT EVER OTHER DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION, PVC AND CASE. ESTIMATED 7,000 TO 9000. TO FIX THE TRUCK WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND ALWAYS GOT SERVICED OIL CHANGES ECT. I BOUGHT ANOTHER EQUINOX 2019 AND WHILE TRANSFERRING MY STUFF FROM 1 TRUCK TO ANOTHER SERVICE GUY SAID THIS A COMMON THING WITH THIS ECOTEC ENGINE AND CHEVY IS AWARE. I WENT HOME AND GOOGLE WHAT HAPPENED AND SURE ENOUGH THEY HAVE A CLASS ACTION SUITE AGAINST THEM. THEY SAID IT SHOULD ONLY BE ON THE OLDER MODELS AND IT IS FIXED ON NEWER YEARS. I COULD ENTER MY VIN TO SEE IF MY TRUCK WAS PART OF THE RECALL WHICH IT WAS NOT. I CALLED CHEVY, ESCALLATION AND MANAGERS THEY SAID SINCE I SOLD\TRADED THE TRUCK IN FOR A NEW ONE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR MY ENGINE STARTED TO FLUTTER WHEN NOTICING THAT I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY AND MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE DEALERSHIP TOOK A LOOK AT IT THEY REALIZED IT WAS A PCV CLOG FROM CONDENSATION GETTING IN TO THE PCV VALVE. I HAVE 72000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE SO THERE IS NO MORE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT COVER CLOGS. UPON RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND OUT THAT CHEVY HAD A LOT OF THESE AND ACTUALLY EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON VEHICLES FROM 2010 TO 2014 FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEY HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT FIXING THE ISSUE IN THE ARTICLES I HAVE READ. UPON HEARING THIS INFORMATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP I CONTACTED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHICH THAT THEY HAD 6 VEHICLES IN THEIR FOR THIS SAME EXACT THING THEY TOLD ME THAT IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GETS COLD. CHEVROLET WILL NOT COVER THIS KNOWING IT IS A PROBLEM. ATTACHED IS THE SERVICE BULLETIN WHERE IT LIST THE MODELS AND WHERE CHEVY HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THOSE MAKE AND MODELS.

I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ONE MONTH, WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES ON IT. THERE IS APPARENTLY A RECALL ON THIS FOR SPECIFIC CHEVERLOT EQUINOXES MADE IN 2015, WHICH IF THIS VEHICLE IS A 2016, WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN THAT TIME FRAME. WILL YOU PLEASE HELP ME?

Summary

THE CAR CONSUMES MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, LIKE THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. NO WARNING IS GIVEN THAT THE VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF OIL CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PISTONS, TIMING CHAINS AND ENGINE. GM DROPPED THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY TO 60 K KNOWING THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS ISSUES SINCE 2011- TO CURRENT. THE FAILURE HAPPENS AT 58-60 K MILES MAKING IT THE CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THIS ENORMOUS REPAIR. IN TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE YET NO ONE HAS INFORMED THE OWNERS THAT OIL CONSUMPTION ON A BRAND NEW CAR WOULD NEED TO BE MONITORED OR THAT NO ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BE TRIGGERED. LEAVING THE CUSTOMER WITH A CAR WITH LESS OF A POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY AND THE FULL COST OF THE REPAIR. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT THEY COULD DO A COST ASSISTANCE BUT WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR, BECAUSE MY MILEAGE IS JUST OUTSIDE THE 60K MARK. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. MY COWORKER HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND BECAUSE HIS CAR FAILED AT 58 K IT WAS PAID FOR. GM KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING IN LOWERING THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY ON THIS CAR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER AND GM NEEDS TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE.

Summary

THIS SAFETY PROBLEM COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I AM 5'4'' AND SIT UPRIGHT WITH THE CORRECT DISTANCE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND PEDALS. WHEN DRIVING OR SITTING THE FRONT VIEW TOWARDS THE RIGHT AND SOMEWHAT ALSO WHEN LOOKING LEFT, IS OBSTRUCTED BY THE SIDE MIRRORS. LOOKING TO THE SIDES TOWARDS EACH SIDE'S MIRROR (NOT INTO THE MIRROR BUT TO SEE CROSS TRAFFIC WHEN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION OR TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT) THE VIEW OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR PEDESTRIANS IS IN A BLIND SPOT. THE VIEW IS BLOCKED BY THE SIDE MIRROR AND THE ARM OF THE MIRROR ATTACHING THE MIRROR TO THE CAR. ALSO THE WIDENESS OF THE FRAME OF THE FRONT WINDOW ON EACH SIDE TO ACCOMMODATE THE AIRBAG CONTRIBUTES TO THE BLOCKED VIEWING TOO. THIS HAS LED TO ME NEARLY HITTING SOMEONE CROSSING THE STREET AND NEARLY BEING T-BONED BY A CAR THAT WAS COMPLETELY INVISIBLE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL IT PASSED OUT OF THE BLOCKED AREA. I CALLED MY DEALER AND THERE ARE NO ALTERNATE SIDE MIRRORS TO PURCHASE OR ANY CAMERAS THAT THEY KNEW OF FOR THIS FRONT SIDE BLIND SPOT. (THIS IS NOT THE BLIND SPOT THAT CAMERAS ARE USED FOR THE SEE SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE DRIVER.)

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN THE RIGHT HAND POSITION. TO AVOID A CRASH, I QUICKLY TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT. THIS OCCURRED TWO TIMES PRIOR , DURING THE COURSE OF A YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR. WHEN IT OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME, I JUST ASSUMED I SLIPPED ON A PIECE OF ICE THAT WAS LEFT OVER FROM A STORM. HOWEVER, ON THE THIRD TIME, AS I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, MY KEY CHAIN BROKE OFF FROM THE KEY FOB AND THE REMAINDER OF KEYS ON THE KEY CHAIN. (I HAD MULTIPLE KEY RINGS, SHOPPING REWARD FOBS, ETC ON KEYCHAIN). WHAT WAS LEFT WAS A SMALL PORTION OF THE KEY LEFT STUCK INSIDE THE IGNITION. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP (CAR RUNNING) AND I WAS TOLD THAT A SET OF PLYERS HAD TO BE USED TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION.

I HAVE LIVED ON SHEADS MOUNTAIN RD FOR 3 YEARS NOW. IN THAT 3 YEARS WE HAVE HAD 9 FLAT TIRES AND ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD ROCKS IN THEM AND MOST OF THEM WE HAVE HAD TO GET NEW TIRES BECAUSE THIS ROAD IS SO BAD AND THEY COULD NOT PLUG OR PATCH THEM.MY HUSBAND WORKS FOR ESCAVATING COMPANY FOR 28 YEARS AND ISINCE WE HAVE LIVED HERE THEY HAVE NEVER GRADED THIS ROAD! I HAVE SENT SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND HAVE EVEN CALLED AND TALKED WITH VDOT AND HAVE NEVER GOTTEN ANYWHERE. I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2016 SUV WITH 13,000 MILES ON IT AND IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS HAVE HAD TO GET 2 BRAND NEW TIRES. I FILED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A CLAIM ALREADY BUT IT WAS JUST A ROAD COMPLAINT AND GOT A CALL FROM MIKE BAILY AND WHEN I WENT INTO DETAIL ABOUT MY COMPLAINT AND THAT I WAS GETTING A LAWYER AND I WAS TIRED OF THESE ROAD CONDITIONS THE VERY NEXT DAY THEY CAME OUT AND ACTUALLY GRADED THE ROAD INSTEAD OF JUST THROWING STONE DOWN ON ITT LIKE THEY USUALLY DO. THE WASHBOARDS WERE SO BAD YOU LITERALLY HAD TO DRIVE 5 MPH AND STILL YOU ABOUT WENT INTO THE DITCH WHICH IS DANGEROUS IN ITSELF BECAUSE THE DITCH LINE WAS SO DEEP. I AM SUBMITTING A CLAIM FOR BOTH OF MY TIRES AND I HAVE A PICTURE OF ONE OF THEM WITH THE ROCK.

UNINTENDED ACCELERATION!! WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH WITHOUT THE CRUISE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WAS UNDER FULL ACCELERATION. MY WIFE IMMEDIATELY ASKED "WHAT IS HAPPENING". MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO APPLY THE BRAKE WHICH CAUSED THE ACCELERATION TO CEASE. I THEN CALLED ONSTAR TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY RESPONDED THAT MY TIRE PRESSURES ARE OK AND NO CODES WERE DETECTED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY CHECKED FOR CODES, DROVE IT , INSPECTED AND COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THERE WAS "NO TROUBLE FOUND". THIS CAR HAD LESS THAN 900 MILES WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. I AM A FORMER FINAL ASSEMBLY ELECTRONICS TEST ENGINEER FOR DELPHI AND KNOW HOW SOFTWARE PROBLEMS CAN BE DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE. I KNOW WHAT I EXPERIENCED AND FOR GM TO IGNORE THIS SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE A SERVICE TECH DID NOT RECOVER A TROUBLE CODE OR BE ABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM IN A 45 MILE TEST DRIVE SIMPLY INFURIATES ME. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THE VEHICLE DECIDED TO ACCELERATE WHILE WAITING FOR A LIGHT TO CHANGE AT A BUSY INTERSECTION? *TR

ON OCTOBER 1, MY MOTHER (PASSENGER) AND I WERE INVOLVED IN A ROLL BACK ACCIDENT AT MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. I REMAINED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOR 1-2 MINUTES. I RETURNED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE, OPENED THE DOOR, AND PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE CABIN. UPON OPENING THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACK, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN PARK. I WAS CAUGHT BETWEEN THE VEHICLE DOOR, WITH HALF OF MY BODY/EXTREMITIES (THE RIGHT SIDE) IN THE CABIN, AND MY LEFT EXTREMITIES OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRAGGED 10-15 FEET. MY MOTHER WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WITH HER WITH SAFETY BELT. THE VEHICLE HIT AN EMBANKMENT (WITH A 6-7 FOOT DROP) THAT LEADS TO A GAZEBO THAT COVERS OUR MAILING CENTER. THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE WOODEN FENCING AND THE ROOF AND COLUMNS OF THE GAZEBO. THE FRONT END WAS STUCK IN THE EMBANKMENT; THE REAR END CRASHED INTO THE ROOF, BUT WAS SUSPENDED ABOVE A 6-7 FOOT DROP. POLICE AND FIREMEN ASSESSED THE SITUATION, AND SUSPECTED THAT THE INCIDENT MAY HAVE HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF A MALFUNCTIONING TRANSMISSION AND/OR BREAK SYSTEM. NO FAULT WAS DETERMINED IN THE INCIDENT.

I'M WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE WITH A 2016 CHEVROLET EQUINOX RENTED FROM ENTERPRISE IN HUNTINGTON STATION, NEW YORK. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 12,022 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. AS TRAFFIC SLOWED DOWN AHEAD OF ME I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I WAS IMMEDIATELY SHOCKED WITH DISBELIEF THAT MY VEHICLE SLIGHTLY IMPACTED WITH THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME INSTEAD OF STOPPING 5 OR 10 FEET BEFORE THAT VEHICLE. THE BRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO RESPOND OR FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY COMPARED TO ALL VEHICLES I'VE OWNED OR RENTED FOR OVER 50 YEARS. CONVINCED THAT THERE MUST BE AN UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL PEP BOYS. THEIR INSPECTION REVEALED "BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR MORE THAN HALF EMPTY" (SEE 2 PAGE ATTACHMENT). I'M NOT SURE IF THERE WAS A SLOW LEAK IN THE LINE OR IF THE BRAKE FLUID HAD NOT BEEN FILLED SUFFICIENTLY. FROM MY 50 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE I DON'T EVER RECALL A NEW CAR REQUIRING THE ADDITION OF BRAKE FLUID AFTER ONLY 12,022 MILE OF USAGE. I AM HOWEVER FIRMLY CONVINCED THAT THIS UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF THE RENTAL VEHICLE HAD CONTAINED THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID. I FELT OBLIGATED TO REPORT THIS POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE TO YOU SO YOU CAN INVESTIGATE IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTED INSTANCES OF BRAKE FLUID LOSS RESULTING IN INEFFECTUAL BRAKING AND SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENTS. *TR
