Summary

Around September of 2021 the backup camera on my 2016 Ford Mustang convertible began to fail to show a viewable image. After visiting a dealer who wanted $500 to replace the camera, I watched this video from a Ford Master Mechanic to realize my problem (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Onbo8PgrY). Upon examination, I discovered that there were two zip ties, one in the trunk and the other at the body, severely restraining the free movement of the wiring as the trunk open/close. I clipped those zip ties and then carefully opened the wiring cover at the junction of the trunk and body. Several of the wires in the harness, including a coaxial cable, showed stripping of the wire's plastic cover and wire damage from the severe constraint caused by the tie's compression. This is clearly a factory manufacturing error and should be recalled for replacement or repair.

Summary

I would like to file a complaint against Ford in regards to a door latch issue with my 2016 Mustang convertible. Starting in April 2021, the passenger side door will become unlatched on it's own while driving even with doors locked. It doesn't open entirely but enough to trip "door ajar" light and interior lights. Since that time in April it happened in June of 2021 and again in August after which I took car to a dealer. Door came unlatched at normal speeds between 40 and 60 mph. The car is under an extended warranty from Ford and the car now has approximately 37,000 miles on it. I am the original owner. The dealer kept car for about a weeks time and said they could not duplicate it. They told me warranty wouldn't honor it since they couldn't duplicate the issue and it would cost around $600 to fix possible issues. They asked me several questions implying I was imagining it or I didn't know what I was talking about. I've been driving for about 50 years. Since August, it has happened 2 more times, once at highway speed on 10/17/21 and again yesterday, 01/11/21 also at highway speed. This time my son was sitting in passenger seat. He is a Ford trained mechanic although he doesn't work for Ford but works on Ford police fleet cars. I do believe this is a safety issue but Ford will not address the issue. I took it to Ford corporate and they backed the dealer. I believe it will only get worse as time progresses. Wouldn't cover under warranty but if I wanted to pay they would do whatever I wanted them to do.

Summary

Purchased the car around 40k miles. Did all the maintenance required for 3-4 years with it now at 98k miles. On the evening near Christmas eve as i was at the red light making a right turn i heard clank from the bottom of my engine, then metal pieces were falling off to the ground. Smoke was coming out from the engine, with the oil pressure illuminating light on. I pulled over to see a trail of oil, while looking under I saw a big whole on the bottom of the engine block. Good thing it didn't happened when I was driving at a higher speed and I was by myself vs having my kids with me. Geico would not cover my blown engine, and ford knows this is a known issue referring to "Ecoboom" but i no longer have warranty with them. Car has been sitting at the shop pending 6500 to have the engine replaced. With covid times we are living in right now i dont know what else to do.

Crash: Yes
Fire: No
Vehicle Identification Number: 1FATP8UH6G5******
Summary

Steering wheel airbag did not deploy in a high speed crash. The knee airbag DID deploy. My daughter was in an accident with another vehicle. The other vehicle was traveling about 40 mph. It was a very high impact crash that launched by daughters car about 30 feet. The steering wheel airbag did not deploy. As a result my daughter hit her and and received a severe concussion. She was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle is in the process of being classified as "totaled" by insurance company but they have not inspected the specific airbag issue. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating the airbag was non-functional.

Summary

Right rear turn signals and break lights occasionally fail to work. Turning the car off and on 3-4 times temporarily resolved the issue but eventually this temporary fix failed and I was told the entire rear tail light assembly would need to be replaced. An alternative to this total replacement might be found in Ford Special Service Message 47429 where Ford will reprogram the body control module which supposedly corrects the issue.

I have had my 2016 mustang for 5 years already with 29k miles , my warrantee has expired. I recently notice I had check engine light for P0456 Evaporative Emission Leak. I took the car to get smoke test by my local shop mechanic and it came that there fuel vapor coming out of capless filler neck, since every ford model after 2013 don't have gas cap nomore I would have to replace the whole gas filler pipe which is around $500 for part and labor. In other cars you can just change gas cap for 20$ buh since in my case my car doesn't have gas cap i would have to replace the whole gas pipe filler and ford doesnt offer any gas cap for my car. I feel like if i do change my gas filler pipe , mabey couple years from now it's gona start giving same check engine problem. I also feel safety concern i do live in Arizona where gets really hot and with fuel vapor coming out capless filler it might cost a fire. I have 3year daughter that likes to ride in my mustang but i don't let her intill this gets fix i don't want her smelling gas . Im hoping with this recall ford can fix the issue and work on better design and or make a gas cap to fix evap leak without having to spend hundreds of dollards.thank you

Summary

My backup camera, GPS, and satellite radio lost connection. I could not see behind me or find my location. The wiring harness going to the trunk stopped working. Dealership told me it was due to a “faulty design from the factory” and that it was from “opening and closing the trunk too much.” They replaced it, forced me to pay nearly $600, and told me to keep my receipts in case it ever becomes a recall. Not sure if this applies to every model or just the convertibles. I still see glitches periodically even with the new one.

Summary

Engine threw a rod and damaged several pistons. Car has only 86,000 miles on it. Routine maintenance was done on schedule. No warning lights or symptoms were present before the incident. This will now require a full engine replacement. The incident happened while driving causing a major loss of power and eventually the inability to safely get my vehicle out of traffic. My car is still sitting at my mechanic and is available for inspection. It was only diagnosed and no repairs have been performed. The current COVID situation has made it impossible to even secure a replacement engine. Ford should be held accountable based on the number of related issues reported. I’m now paying on a car I can’t drive or repair l.

The vehicle is having the same issues as the 2015 and 2017 models. The passenger door will unlock and unlatch by itself while driving. Luckily the 4 times it has happened it has been while driving in a straight path and not going on a turn in which the door could fully open and cause an accident or someone or something to fall out of vehicle. In Looking at the 2015/2017 recalls, Ford is replacing the "Pawl spring tab" My vehicle thereby fails to comply with the requirements (FMVSS) 206, DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS. Unfortunately there are no recalls at the moment.

Summary

1) I have a 2016 Ford Mustang. Within first 5k miles the reverse camera did not operate intermittently. Was told by dealer that no fix was available in 2016. The car is driven summer months only. As years went on I had same defect. They didn’t have a loaner available or I would have to rent a car myself for them to service the said defect. I left it at dealer a few times afterwards then they said they could not duplicate defect. Now they are charging it against my extended warranty and wanted me to pay deductible. I argued with service manager and deductible was waived. Here we are 2021 and defect still remains. Vehicle currently had 23k miles. 2) Also, had to buy new tires already. The Pirelli P-zero tires had major sidewall cracking. 3) Hood of vehicle has corrosion. Contacted Ford corporate with claim. Vehicle is out of warranty as of January 2021. They will make partial payment but not all.

Summary

THIS MODEL HAS KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE A/C SYSTEM. A DEFECT IN THE EVAPORATOR CORE CAUSES POOR A/C PERFORMANCE, FOR WHICH THERE IS A POSTED TSB. I BELIEVE THERE IS POTENTIALLY A SAFETY ISSUE HERE WHICH WOULD WARRANT A RECALL. SINCE THE REFRIGERANT LEAKS INTO THE CABIN FROM THE EVAPORATOR CORE, THE WINDSCREEN FORMS A RESIDUE WHICH OBSTRUCTS DRIVER VISIBILITY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS GLARE FROM THE SUN. DRIVER VISIBILITY IS A FACTOR IN THE PROBABILITY OF AUTOMOTIVE ACCIDENTS, THEREFORE THE COMMONLY DEFECTIVE A/C SYSTEM DIRECTLY IMPACTS THE SAFETY OF THIS MODEL. TO MAINTAIN PERFORMANCE OF THE A/C SYSTEM, IT MUST BE TOPPED OFF. BUT VISIBILITY SUFFERS AND THE WINDSCREEN MUST CONSTANTLY BE CLEANED. ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT REFRIGERANT THAT IS LEAKED IS CHRONICALLY INHALED BY OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE TOXICITY OF R134A, BUT I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT IT BELONGS IN PEOPLES LUNGS. IF IS IT DANGEROUS TO DO SO, THEN I MUST REITERATE, THE COMMONLY DEFECTIVE A/C SYSTEM DIRECTLY IMPACTS THE SAFETY OF THIS MODEL. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THIS ISSUE GETS MORE ATTENTION AND A SOLUTION IS PROPOSED. THANK YOU AND BEST REGARDS. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 61,000 MILES, THE ORIGINAL ENGINE STOPPED WORKING. CYLINDER #3 GAVE OUT. POSSIBLY A LSPI CONDITION. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED UNDER CPO WARRANTY. MY NEW ENGINE HAS NOW GIVEN OUT AT 36,000 MILES. ON THE 1ST ENGINE, I CAME FROM FORD DEALER AFTER COMPLAINING OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COMING ON. OIL WAS CHANGED, CODES CLEARED. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 4 CITY BLOCKS, ACCELERATED FROM A STOP LIGHT, AND THE ENGINE STARTED BLOWING WHITE SMOKE AND I PULLED IT OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE TO BE FULLY REPLACED, AT 61,000 MILES, A LONG BLOCK, NOT A SHORT BLOCK. ON MY SECOND ENGINE, WHICH HAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES ON IT, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND AN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE. AFTER PARKING IT, THE NEXT TIME I STARTED IT UP IT WAS BLOWING WHITE SMOKE AGAIN. I DIAGNOSES AT THE DEALER IS UNDERWAY.

I HAVE READ ON THE NEWS THAT THE MUSTANGS ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CHECKED MY VIN I SEE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN GET THEIRS REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL SINCE IT IS HAPPENING TO MY VEHICLE. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE WE WERE COMING TO AN INTERSECTION AND WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR THE STOP LIGHT. THE SECOND INSTANCE WE WERE GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH. WE HAD TO GO INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE TO SHUT THE DOOR. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE WE HAD THE TOP DOWN AND IN THE SECOND INSTANCE WE HAD THE TOP UP AND THE WINDOWS ROLLED UP.

THE EVAPORATOR CORE ON MY CAR HAS A LEAK AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, OUT OF WARRANTY AND WITH ONLY 4000 MILES ON IT, FOR $1800. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT; FORUMS AROUND THE INTERNET ARE FILLED WITH HUNDREDS OF PAGES OF CONSUMERS WITH IDENTICAL STORIES. FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM (TSB #: TSB18-2166, NHTSA ID #: 10143077), BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR BUYBACK PROGRAM, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THOUSANDS OF CARS ARE LEAKING R134, A TOXIC CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY HAZARD, INTO THE AIR. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IF CONSUMERS DON'T HAVE THE SPARE NEARLY $2000 TO SPEND ON REPLACING THE CORE, MEANING THE OLD ONE WILL CONTINUE TO LEAK INDEFINITELY.

I FIRST NOTICED THIS DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT AND SAID IT WAS PROBABLY A NEW CAR SMELL. I HAD IT CHECKED AGAIN THREE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE BUT, AGAIN, MECHANIC HAD SAME OUTCOME. I FINALLY GOT FED UP WITH THE SMELL AND ASKED AGAIN 18 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. FORD SPENT WEEKS EXAMINING IT AND HAD A FORD TECHNICIAN ALSO EXAMINE THE CAR. FORD FOUND THE SMELL THIS TIME AND SAID ANOTHER MUSTANG LIKE MINE ALSO HAD THE SAME SMELL. FORD CLAIMED THE SMELL WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF MUSTANG. I HAD AN EXPERT TEST THE CAR SEVERAL HOURS ONE AFTERNOON (SEE PART OF REPORT ATTACHED). HE FOUND THAT CARBON MONOXIDE WAS MUCH HIGHER IN THE TRUNK THAN IN THE CABIN. HE FOUND LEVELS AS HIGH AS 411 PPM IN THE TRUNK AND 14 PPM IN THE CABIN. HE CONCLUDED THAT EXHAUST MOVED FROM EXHAUST PIPE TO CAR TRUNK TO CAR CABIN.

JUST PICKED MY CAR UP FROM DEALERSHIP, DUE TO A BATTERY ISSUE THAT I PREVIOUSLY POSTED ABOUT, AND MY DRIVER SIDE VENTS ARE BLOWING WARM AIR. I GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND JUST LIKE THE BATTERY ISSUE I REPORTED, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT WITH THE 2016 FORD MUSTANG. I WILL NOW HAVE TO BRING MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HOPE THAT THEY CAN GET AROUND TO DIAGNOSING IT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLS REGARDING THESE ISSUES, WHEN FORD IS OBVIOUSLY SELLING DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. MY CAR HAS 30,400 MILES TOMORROW WILL MAKE THE 5TH TIME IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER THE PAST YEAR. INVESTIGATION INTO THESE CARS ARE OBVIOUSLY WARRANTED.

Summary

CAR WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP ON 09/04/2019, DUE TO MAJOR CORROSION ON POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, WHICH HAD CAUSED ENTIRE BATTERY CONNECTOR TO CRUMBLE. FORD SAID IT WAS A BAD BATTERY AND REPLACED IT AT A COST OF $209 TO ME. THIS MORNING, 09/19/2019,I WALKED OUTSIDE AND FOUND ORANGE LIQUID (ASSUMING BATTERY ACID) ON CEMENT UNDER WHERE THE BATTERY IS LOCATED ON CAR. I OPENED HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE NEW BATTERY ALREADY HAS NEW CORROSION ON THE POSITIVE TERMINAL. I HAVE READ IN SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR QUITE A FEW FORD OWNERS. OBVIOUSLY, THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE BATTERY BUT SOME UNDERLYING ISSUE THAT IS CAUSING BATTERY TO OVERCHARGE.

MY CAR WAS PARKED AFTER DRIVING AROUND 2 MILES AND HAD BEEN OFF FOR AROUND 2 HOURS.WHEN I RETURNED TO CAR, IT WOULD NOT START AND GAVE ME A MESSAGE SAYING KEY WAS REQUIRED. DASHBOARD LIGHTS, RADIO, AIR BLOWER CAME ON BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT TURNOVER, JUST MADE CLICKING SOUND. I THOUGHT KEY FOB WAS PROBLEM SO TRIED THE SPARE ONE. WHILE WAITING FOR HUSBAND TO BRING EXTRA FOB I NOTICED AIR COMING OUT OF BENTS SMELLED LIKE SULPHER. WHEN SPARE FOB DID NOT FIX PROBLEM, WE CHECKED THE BATTERY AND FOUND THAT THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL HAD EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND IT WAS SO HOT THAT IT WAS BUBBLING AND THE TENINAL BOLT HAD COMPLETELY CORRODED AND FELL OFF UPON TOUCH. UPON INSPECTION, WE ALSO SAW THAT THE CORROSION HAD ALSO DAMAGED THE END OF THE BATTERY CABLE. FIVE DAYS PRIOR MY VEHICHLE WOULD NOT START AFTER DRIVING AROUND 30 MINUTES AND ALSO SAID "KEY REQUIRED" BUT WHEN I TOOK THE FOB APART TH O LOOK FOR BATTERY AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER MY CAR STARTED ON THE NEXT TRY. OTHER THAN THAT INCIDENT, THERE HAD BEEN NO PRIOR WARNING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BATTERY AND I HAD NO ISSUES STARTING MY CAR.

OPENED MY DOOR PASSENGER SIDE AND MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT WAS THE SOURCE SO I OPEN IT AND ALL I SAW WERE FLAMES LEAPING FROM THE TOP OF THE COMPARTMENT AND FLAMES COMING OUTTA THE AIR VENTS. WITHIN MINUTES THE ENTIRE GLOVE BOX COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE DASH ITSELF MELTED ONTO THE FLOORBOARD. SOME GENTLEMAN FOUND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT IT OUT BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EVEN ARRIVED. IM JUST LUCKY I WASN'T IN IT BUT THIS HAD TO BE SOME MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THE WIRING BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT IT STARTED ABOVE THE GLOVE BOX RIGHT WERE THE WIRE HARNESSES ENTER THE CAR THROUGH THE FIRE BREAK BETWEEN THE CAR AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

THE REAR DECK "GT" EMBLEM BROKE ON MY NEW CAR AND FELL OFF. I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS A NEW VEHICLE AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE EMBLEM WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE BACK DECK LID AND THE REVERSE CAMERA BECAUSE IT IS ALL ONE PIECE. AS I LEFT I NOTICED THAT THE NEW DECK LID DID NOT SEAL PROPERLY AND WATER COULD GET IN MY TRUNK SO I RETURNED TO THE SERVICE SHOP. AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD BY AN ASSOCIATE THAT AN UPDATE WAS MADE TO THE SERVICE MANUAL AND A NEW "BUMPER PAD" WAS REQUIRED TO BE ADDED UNDER THE DECK LID THAT WAS PREVENTING IT FROM CLOSING PROPERLY. I TOLD THEM IT WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. THEY CONTINUED TO EXPLAIN IT WAS A FACTORY CHANGE AND WAS CORRECTED EXACTLY HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ACCORDING TO THE NEW MANUAL UPDATES. THE LARGER PROBLEM IS THAT I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I AM ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND WAS PICKING THE CAR UP TO DRIVE STRAIGHT TO MY NEW BASE. THEY STATED IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE AND I COULD HAVE MY LOCAL DEALER LOOK AT THE ITEM AND FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. WELL, I AM NOW AT MY NEW LOCATION AND THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THERE IS NOT ANY UPDATES TO THE MANUAL FOR THEM TO ADD AN EXTRA BUFFER PAD AND THEY THE DECK LID THEY ADDED IS WARPED FROM THEM TRYING TO FORCE IT ON. HOWEVER, THE LOCAL DEALER CANNOT TOUCH IT BECAUSE IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT THE OTHER LOCATION AND THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE. NOW THEY WANT ME TO DRIVE IT BACK 490 MILES ONE WAY TO HAVE THEM FIX IT WHEN THEY FIRST LIED TO ME ABOUT WHAT WAS DONE AND THEN ALSO TOLD ME I COULD BRING IT TO A LOCAL SHOP BECAUSE THE MILITARY MOVED ME AND THE WARRANTY WOULD STILL COVER IT. THEY NEED TO PAY WHAT EVER THEY NEED TO THE LOCAL DEALER SO I CAN HAVE MY NEW CAR REPAIRED SINCE THEY MESSED IT UP AND THEN LIED TO ME. MALL OF GEORGIA FORD IS WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THE SAME SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT LIED TO ME.

ATTEMPTED TO RESTART CAR SEVERAL TIMES, AFTER 7 OR 8 TIMES IT FINALLY STARTED. IT HAD A ROUGH IDLE, AND CONTINUED TO STALL OUT 6 MORE TIMES FOR THE REMAINING 30 MILES UNTIL I REACHED MY HOME. THERE ARE NO STORES, OR SAFE PLACES TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD ON THIS TOLL ROAD, AND IT IS A VERY LONG STRETCH OF HIGHWAY TO BE LEFT STRANDED ON. THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING COMPONENTS WERE INSPECTED AS WELL AS TIRE ALIGNMENT. NO MECHANICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN FOUND. TO JUSTIFY THE CARS BEHAVIOR I WAS INSTEAD FALSELY ACCUSED OF MISHANDLING THE CAR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND PROVIDED PAPERWORK THAT CLAIMED IT WAS NORMAL FOR FORDS WITH ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPAS/PDC) TO DRIFT AROUND THE ROAD ON THEIR OWN AND THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 300 MILES I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS AT TIMES, HARD TO SHIFT, WOULD GRIND A GEAR. LOCKED ME OUT OF A GEAR, AND IN GENERAL CAN SHAKE AND PRODUCE LOUD THUMPING NOISES WHEN ENGAGING GEARS WHILE SITTING AT A STANDSTILL OR EVEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR. I HAD TEST DROVE MORE THAN ONE CAR BEFORE PURCHASING THIS ONE. NONE OF THE OTHERS BEHAVED THIS WAY. I HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY INTERMITTENT ISSUE BETWEEN BUILDS OF THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN FOR SERVICE. THEY HAD REMOVED THE TRANSMISSION AND SERVICED SOME PARTS. UPON GETTING THE CAR BACK IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO DOING THE SAME THING. THIS IS NOT A BIG SAFETY CONCERN, BUT COULD CAUSE BIGGER AND MORE EXPENSIVE ISSUES DOWN THE ROAD DEPENDING ON WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS ONE OF FOUR COMPLAINTS I HAVE WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE THAT HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLVED.

AFTER ABOUT 8 MONTHS OF PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE THE BACKUP CAMERA BEGAN TO ACT UP. THE CAMERA WOULD OCCASIONALLY GO TO STATIC OR A COMPLETELY BLACK SCREEN. I HAD FINALLY MANAGED TO HAVE TAKEN A VIDEO AND PRODUCED IT FOR THE MECHANIC TO SEE. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE SO THEY HAD BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON THE HEAT. WHILE I AGREE IT IS HOT IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SORTED OUT DURING THE DEVELOPMENT CYCLES OF THE VEHICLE AND THE CAMERA. ARIZONA THE LAST I CHECKED IS A PART OF THE UNITED STATES WHERE FORD EXISTS AS A COMPANY AND ROAD TESTS VEHICLES ON ACCOUNT OF THE HEAT. THESE ARE SITUATIONS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIGURED OUT ALREADY. YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO RELY ON BACKUP CAMERAS, BUT IN A VEHICLE LIKE THIS IT IS AN IMPORTANT WAY OF BEING ABLE TO SEE OUT THE BACK OF THE CAR AND IS A PREMIUM ITEM. THIS IS ONE OF FOUR COMPLAINTS I HAVE HAD ABOUT THIS VEHICLE THAT HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLVED.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 MUSTANG GT BASE MODEL DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL "ON" AND THE CAR RANDOMLY LOCKED ALL OF THE WHEELS AND TURNED SIDEWAYS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND ONLY STOPPING WHEN I HIT A CURB. WHILE SLIDING THERE WAS NO THROTTLE OR BRAKE CONTROL BECAUSE THE TRACTION SYSTEM LOCKED ALL FOUR WHEELS. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER PREVIOUS TO THIS INSTANCE TO COMPLAIN THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS NOISY AND THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO CONTROL ON CERTAIN ROAD SURFACES AND IT FELT VERY UNSAFE. AFTER GIVING THEM THIS INFORMATION THEY SCHEDULED ME FOR AN APPOINTMENT A WEEK LATER AND LET ME DRIVE OFF. SUBSEQUENT TO SAY, THE VEHICLE TOTALLY LOST CONTROL 3 DAYS BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT. ROAD SURFACE WAS DRY, IT WAS SUNNY 94 DEGREES AND I WAS TRAVELING AT 40MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AND MY VEHICLE HAS 26K MILES. THE NOISE AND CONTROL ISSUE WAS MINISCULE BUT EXISTENT ON THE VEHICLE AT 14K MILES AND ONLY KEPT GETTING WORSE. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE POSSIBILITY OF A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND THEY WERE VERY DEFENSIVE AND MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CHARGING ME FOR THE DAMAGES THAT RESULTED FROM THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. I REQUESTED THAT THE COMPUTER LOGS BE PRESERVED AND SENT TO FORD AS IT MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR THAT AND THAT IT WOULD BE QUITE EXPENSIVE AS TO DISCOURAGE ME FROM REPORTING IT. I RETAINED A PRINTOUT OF MY INITIAL COMPLAINT THAT WAS DOCUMENTED AT THE DEALER UPON MY INITIAL VISIT. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND IS BEING DIAGNOSED FOR THE FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE ISSUE.

RE WATER INSIDE, DRIVER DOOR ISSUES, SYNC, CAMERA/STEREO ELECTRICAL ISSUES INCLUDE DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK AT TIMES, TAKES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO BE GRANTED ACCESS INTO CAR, THUS CAUSING SAFETY CONCERN. SYNC GOES OUT FAIRLY REGULARLY INCLUDING PHONE FUNCTION, BACK UP CAMERA, STEREO. CURRENTLY IN SHOP AGAIN SINCE 7-3-17 @ 9 AM.(16 CONSECUTIVE DAYS THIS TRIP). SAFETY CONCERN OF MOST IMPORTANCE TO ME IS THE FACT THAT CAR HAS LOST POWER MULTIPLE TIMES ON HIGHWAY AND THANKFULLY HAS NOT YET BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. QUICK REFLEXES OF DRIVERS BEHIND ME ARE ONLY REASONS THAT ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN AVOIDED THUS FAR. I AM TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS IS A THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED AFTER A NEAR REAR END ACCIDENT ( HIGHWAY/ INTERSECTION/TURN). THROTTLE BODY WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING CAR INSTANTLY DECELERATED WITH NO ACCELERATION CAPABILITY. ONE WEEK LATER THROTTLE BODY FAILS AGAIN CAUSING A NEAR ACCIDENT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IN NATURE DUE TO THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY. MY 7 YEA OLD WAS IN REAR SEAT. MY CHILDREN ARE NO LONGER FOR ANY REASON ALLOWED IN THE VEHICLE SINCE OCTOBER 2016. THROTTLE BODY HAS YET AGAIN BEEN REPLACED JUNE 2017. THIRD ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS CAR WITH NO INDICATION THAT THIS IS A REPAIR, IT SEEMS TO BE MERELY A REPAIR ATTEMPT AS THIS PROCESS OF ATTEMPTED REPAIRS HAS CAUSED 3 NEAR REAR ACCIDENTS. THIS CAR HAS PROVEN ITSELF TO BE A DANGER ON THE ROAD AND A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THIS VEHICLE WHILE IT IS IN MOTION. LOW MILEAGE IS INDICATOR OF HOW UNTRUSTWORTHY VEHICLE IS TO ME. IT IS ONLY DRIVEN BY ME, NO PASSENGERS ALLOWED. ONLY DRIVEN IF ANOTHER CAR CAN NOT BE BORROWED. UNRESOLVED ISSUES.

PARKING BRAKE ENGAGEMENT/ADJUSTMENT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NO ENGAGE WHEN THE HANDLE IS PULLED UP DUE TO A SLACK IN THE CABLE LINE OF ABOUT 2 INCHES. THIS CAUSES AN ISSUE DRIVING AS THE SENSOR IS ENGAGED AND CAN CAUSE CRUISE CONTROL TO TURN OFF. ALSO, IT BECOMES A RISK PARKING THE CAR ON A HILL SINCE YOU HAVE TO PULLED THE HANDLE ALL THE WAY UP FOR PROPER TENSION ON THE BRAKE LINE CABLE. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THIS CABLE CAN COME LOOSE RESULTING IN LOST OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FUNCTION. ALSO, IT CAN CAUSE VIBRATION AND RATTLING SINCE THE CABLE MOUNT AND BOLTING CAN MOVE AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION CASING. BUT, I JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM LAST FRIDAY ON 10-21-16 AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE PUTTING A NEW ENGINE IN THE CAR AS THEY FEAR THE NEW ENGINE WILL DO THE SAME THING. THEY SAID THEY "MAY HAVE A FIX NEXT SPRING." I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEIR REGIONAL REP CALLED ME BACK. SHE ONLY OFFERED ME A MAINTENANCE PLAN FOR FREE OIL CHANGES. THIS IS WORTHLESS TO ME AND MY CURRENT PROBLEM AS IT DOESN'T NEED OIL CHANGES AND DOES NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. IF THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON THE BELTWAY OR I-95 I COULD GET KILLED. THE CAR DIDN'T OVERHEAT AND ALL THE GAUGES SHOWED NORMAL. NOW I AM AFRAID TO EVEN DRIVE IT; I DON'T WANT TO BE KILLED OR KILL SOMEONE IF THE ENGINE STOPS.

TAKATA RECALL I BEEN DEALING WITH A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AND ITS BRAND NEW. EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR AND TURN IT ON AND DRIVE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES MY MUSIC TURNS OFF AND SHOWS THE HORSE SYMBOL DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AND IT COMES BACK ON 10 MINUTES LATER. BUT THEN SOMETIMES IT DOES THAT AND THEN THE DISPLAY SCREEN TURNS BLACK AND I CAN'T TURN ON THE RADIO OR ANYTHING. AND THAT LAST FOR A FEW HOURS OR SO.. IT'S REALLY GETTING ANNOYING AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Summary

TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER AND REDUCED RPM. THE LOSS OF POWER IS COMPUTER CONTROLLED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HITS A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE THE COMPUTER REDUCES THE ENGINE POWER AND RPM. THIS IS DOCUMENTED BY MY FORD DEALER BY FINDING TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT CODES WHEN THE CARS COMPUTER IS SCANNED. LOSS OF POWER IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND NO ACCELERATION WAS POSSIBLE. THE TROUBLE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WOULD ONLY ROLL AT 10MPH WITH ENGINE POWER. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT CONTROL THE MOTOR SPEED. CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I JUST PULLED IN TO A PARKING LOT. I WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS TO GET THE CAR HOME USING SIDE STREETS AT 10MPH. LAST YEAR A GUY IN HIS 2015 MUSTANG ASKED ME IF I HAD THIS PROBLEM AS HE EXPLAINED THE SAME SITUATION WHEN I ALSO OWNED A 2015 MUSTANG. I DIDN'T HAVE THAT WITH THE 2015, BUT I JUST BOUGHT IT WHEN WE TALKED. I KNOW WHAT HE MEANS NOW. AS MY 2016 DID WHAT HIS 2015 DID WITH A LOSS OF POWER.

Summary

THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IN AN EFFORT TO RECTIFY SQUEALING BRAKES, I CHECKED EACH LUG NUT TO ENSURE THEY WERE TIGHTENED TO FACTORY SPECIFICATION. ALL TWENTY (4 WHEELS WITH 5 LUG NUTS EACH) WERE ONLY TIGHTENED TO APPROXIMATELY 90FT-LBS OF TORQUE. FORD SPECIFIES IN THE OWNERS MANUAL THAT LUG NUTS BE TORQUED TO 150FT-LBS. I USED TWO DIFFERENT STYLES OF TORQUE WRENCH TO CONDUCT MY TEST. ONE TYPE WAS USED TO LOOSEN TEN LUG NUTS AND ANOTHER WAS USED TO LOOSEN THE REMAINING TEN. MY INTENT WAS TO RULE OUT ANY GROSS ERROR IN TORQUE READINGS. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE WHEELS HAVE NEVER BEEN REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, THEREFORE I SEE THREE POSSIBILITIES: THE DEALER REMOVED THE WHEELS FOR SOME REASON AND DID NOT TORQUE TO SPECIFICATION OR THE LUG NUTS ARE LOOSENING THEMSELVES EVENLY OR THEY WERE NOT TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION FROM THE FACTORY. I FEEL THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO IS THAT THEY WERE NOT TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION FROM THE FACTORY.

I JUST PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW 2016 MUSTANG LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO AND HAVE ALREADY BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH IT. I WAS STATIONARY WAITING AT THE STOP LIGHT AND SHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR 3 TIMES AND MY CAR WOULDN'T BUDGE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT TO MOVE IT OUT OF THE STREET. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BRIEFLY THEN SHUT OFF. A WEEK LATER I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY AND MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITH NO WARNING. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON THIS TIME. I JUST TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY.

NEW VEHICLE LESS THAN 500 MILES. BAD VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VIBRATION STARTS AT AROUND 60 MPH AND IS PRESENT ALL THE WAY BEYOND 80 MPH. THE VIBRATION CAN BE FELT INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND ALSO THROUGH THE STEERING. FORD RE-BALANCED THE TIRES AND ALSO REPLACED THE DRIVESHAFT, BUT VIBRATION STILL PERSISTS. FROM OTHER SOURCES IN THE INTERNET IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A PROBLEM WHICH IS NOT UNCOMMON ON MUSTANGS AND FORD SEEMS TO REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. SINCE THIS OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND SEEMS TO BE COMING IN FROM THE DRIVETRAIN MAKES THIS ISSUE SCARY.

I WAS DRIVING ON LOCAL CITY ROADS. I HAD JUST TURNED AT A LIGHT ONTO A 4 LANE ROAD ACCELERATING AT A NORMAL RATE DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE WRENCH INDICATOR CAME ON AND I LOST ALL POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY AND WILL TAKE AT LEAST A WEEK TO GET THE PART IN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS FOR A CAR WITH LESS THAN 5000 MILES.

WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON MY WAY TO WORK, I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES, BUT THE CAR STALLED AND STARTED FLASHING THE MESSAGE "SEE MANUAL". THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE AT A VERY REDUCED SPEED (MORE LIKE A COAST) INTO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. THE CAR IS ONLY SIX (6) MONTHS OLD WITH A LITTLE OVER 8,000 MILES. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS NEEDED. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AS I LEARNED THAT THE THROTTLE BODIES HAVE BEEN GOING OUT FOR YEARS IN MANY OF THE FORD MODELS AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEMATIC THROTTLE BODIES ARE BEING INSTALLED INTO NEW VEHICLES. I AM THANKFUL THAT I HAD ALREADY EXITED THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE OUTCOME MIGHT HAVE BEEN VERY BAD HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WHEN THIS OCCURRED. FORD REALLY SHOULD LOOK INTO INSTALLING BETTER THROTTLE BODIES ONTO THEIR VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED.

LOST POWER IN INSANELY BUSY IRVING/DALLAS INTERSECTION NEAR MAJOR HIGHWAY - COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE ACCIDENT! 5400 PLUS MILES. FORD 2016 MUSTANG, V6 FROM A STANDING POSITION, SECOND CAR IN LINE AT RED LIGHT. LIGHT CHANGES, TRAFFIC STARTS TO MOVE, I STEPPED ON GAS AND NOTHING! HAD TO CREEP ACROSS TWO LANES OF BUSY TRAFFIC AND LIMP UP ONTO A SIDEWALK AS THAT THERE WAS NO BREAKDOWN SHOULDER. THAN GOD THE CURB WAS ABOUT 2 TO 3 INCHES HIGH. WRENCH ICON ON DASH: "SEE MANUAL". TURNED ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON - RPMS SURGED TO THE RED AND THEN DROPPED TO BELOW 1000. TRIED THE OFF/ON THING ABOUT 3 TIMES - SAME RESULTS. ENGINE WAS CHUGGING, MISSING, EVEN EXHAUST WAS CHUGGING LIKE SOME OLD JALOPY! CHECKED THE ELECTRONIC GAUGE READINGS - EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL EXCEPT THE VACUUM PRESSURE - IT WAS BETWEEN 5 AND 0! AFTER SEVERAL CALLS TO DEALERSHIP, FORD ROADSIDE ASSIST AND TOW COMPANY; TURNED CAR OFF AGAIN - 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE LATER, RESTARTED IT - AND IT WAS RUNNING PERFECT - ENGINE LIGHT HOWEVER WAS ON. VACUUM LEVEL WAS RUNNING BETWEEN 17 AND 20. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP; IT'S A WEEK NOW AND I HAVE JUST LEARNED FROM THEM THAT IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY. WAS TOLD THAT "FORD HAD A BAD BATCH OF THESE" ON THIS ENGINE SIZE (V6). THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE REP STATED IT'S TAKEN AS LONG AS A "COUPLE OF MONTHS" BUT FORD IS GETTING FASTER AT GETTING THE PART OUT, SO IT COULD BE A WEEK TO TWO WEEKS TO GET IT IN. I HAVE SEEN REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM FOR EXPLORERS - FROM JUN 5TH 2016 - STATING THAT FORD HAD 7000 THROTTLE BODIES ON BACK ORDER! THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THESE THINGS LOSING POWER LIKE THIS ON HIGHWAYS AND IN MAJOR TRAFFIC. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS THROTTLE BODY!

Summary

MY NEW 2016 MUSTANG V6 HAS SEVERE VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING AT MOST SPEEDS. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT. DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY DRIVE SHAFT AND REPLACED IT TWICE AND INDEXED THE SECOND ONE AFTER INSTALLATION. THE CAR STILL VIBRATES. THE TIRES WERE ROAD FORCED BALANCED AND ROTATED AND THE VIBRATION IS STILL HAPPENING. THIS LEADS ME AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS TO CONCLUDE THAT THERE MAY BE OTHER MALFUNCTIONING PARTS OR A POSSIBLE DESIGN FLAW IN THE DRIVE LINE WHICH I BELIEVE FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT. THE VIBRATION IS FELT THROUGH THE CAR AND THE REAR MIRROR IMAGE IS BLURRED WHILE DRIVING. A FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. HAS TOLD ME THIS VIBRATION IS "NORMAL" AND "NO REPAIR IS NEEDED". THEY REFUSE TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE FURTHER OR FIX THIS DEFECT. I WONDER, IF IT IS NORMAL WHY DID THEY TRY TO FIX IT TWICE. IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS OR IF THEY WERE DESIGNED SO A VIBRATION CAN SHAKE YOUR BODY WHILE DRIVING, AS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP IS IMPLYING, THEN THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OR NOTIFIED OF THIS VIBRATION CHARACTERISTIC BEFORE PURCHASING. NOTE, THAT WHILE THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS ATTEMPTING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THE SHOP FOREMAN TOLD ME HE DROVE FOUR NEW CARS FROM THEIR STOCK AND FOUND 3 OF THEM TO HAVE THIS VIBRATION DEFECT. NOW IN MY VEHICLE IT APPEARS THAT THE VIBRATION IS CAUSING THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL SEAL TO START LEAKING. I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT A INVESTIGATION BE STARTED INTO THIS MATTER TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OR NUMBER OF VEHICLES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SENSATION. REGARDLESS FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THESE DEFECT ON ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED OR REFUND THE CONSUMERS THE PURCHASED PRICE OF THE VEHICLE IF THEY CANNOT FIX IT.
