Window regulator in the car 4 of them went out Oil light is flashing when but there is no leaks and just got a oil change
Suddenly, the warning lights on my dashboard resembled that of a christmas tree. I was seeing warning lights for the passenger airbag, blind spot warning/assist, auto-hold, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, etc - were all suddenly offline. After finally getting an appointment scheduled with my local dealership, I was told that the airbag module had gone bad and needed replaced. With that module out, the car could not communicate with the other systems and thus was the cause of the errors/warning lights.
The main problem with the car is the error p1326 is the knock sensor. I have this car for almost 5 or 6 months. The error has never been inspected by any insurance or police. The only warning about this problem was the "engine light" on the car.
In November of 2021 at about 18500 miles the right rear window regulator drive gear disentigrated and the entire regulator had to be replaced. In Decemeber of 2021 at about 19700 miles the right front window regulator disintigrated and had to be replaced. The first 2 photos are the December failure the 3rd is the December failure I found it interesting that the same year model Kia has a recall for the exact same problem. I have in my posession the front regulator if you want to examine it I will not dispose of it until I hear from you.
When starting to move from traffic light, engine revved to full throttle, brakes would not stop the vehicle. I swerved right to avoid the vehicle in front of me, then went over a sidewalk and struck a tree. Car still would not stop. Finally came to rest in a ( luckily empty) bowling alley parking lot. Vehicle sustained heavy right side front damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Optima. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
#1Headlights & break lights going out often. Bulbs can’t be replaced anymore due to wiring burnt ( 1 headlight ) Took it in and they didn’t even look at it. Have do Documents to back that up #2 Engine light coming on, diagnostic testing indicated spark plugs need to be replaced . Had to do this two times with oil on plugs Took it in and they NEVER look at the spark plugs #3 car burning excessive amount of oil anywhere from 1 quart a week to 3 1/2 quarts after driving 600 miles. Took it into the shop for oil consumption testing only to be told that their warranty would not cover it and it needs a new engine. I have a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty on my car! and at the present time I only have 88496 miles on my car I have documentation to back up my claim, I have been a loyal Kia owner for 18 years and they have absolutely treated me horrible in regards to this saying that it was lack of maintenance and they never checked the issues that led up to their findings. They indicated that there was sludge in my engine but could never prove or show me anything that they did to document the sludge and trying to blame it on me. This car is a safety hazard as I am aware of mini other Kia optima’s dad have either caught fire or repaired to have their motors replaced due to the same issues. Anything you can do to help me with this issue ! I’m 60 years old and know how to take care of my car
The contact's grandmother owns a 2016 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, the rear driver’s side window inadvertently fell. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and pulled up the window manually. She then inserted a piece of paper in the upper right corner of the window to keep it in place. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The front and rear driver’s side windows and the rear passenger’s side window also inadvertently fell. The contact inserted pieces of paper in the upper right corner of each window. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at her expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,500.
In Sept the car oil light came on. The car was out of oil. Took it to shop and they could not find a leak. The car was filled with oil. Less than 1,000 miles later in Oct the same situation occurred again. The car was inspected an no leak was found but the oil was gone. In Dec after going 2 500 miles the same situation occurred again and another shop inspected and could not find out why. In all 3 situations the driver had to pull over immediately and be stranded until oil came.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the oil warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and checked the oil level of the vehicle with the assistance of her son. The contact stated that her son noticed that the vehicle did not have oil on the dipstick. The vehicle was taken to Pep Boys who had previously refilled the oil and the oil was refilled; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that no issues were found. The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle back after 1,000 miles. The dealer also advised the contact to not open the oil cap per the manufacturer's instructions. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that oil was leaking in the engine compartment and an unknown part needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
All four of my window regulators/and or motors have died within months of each other. First it was my back two, now my front two have gone and don’t stay up. I don’t have children nor frequent passengers. I find it mind boggling that all four of my windows have to be repaired. It is completely unsafe that my windows just drop at any given moment, especially if it’s pouring raining or even at night when it’s locked my personal stuff isn’t safe inside.
First my driver side back window wouldn’t roll up or down. It just sags and falls down everytime I drive so I duck taped it until I could afford to get it fixed. Now a month later, the passenger back seat is doing this exact same thing. There is over 100 articles of people talking about this exact problem with 2016-2017 Kia Optimas and I read apparently Kia is even aware as they sent out an alert to dealerships about it or something along those lines? Well that’s all great and dandy but what about the people who already have the car and are dealing with the problems? I have 2 kids under 2 and it’s a tough financial time. Even with the duct tape, it doesn’t always hold and the window will fall down on the highway and my son starts screaming crying cause its loud and the hard wind hits his face. This should be resolved. It shouldn’t take more than like 5 people complaining about the same thing for it to be deeply looked into and fixed. There’s well over 100 people talking about online like I said.
my engine started making a knocking noise so i get off the freeway and had my car towed to the dealership and they Confirm that the engine is making a knocking noise but they denied the engine replacement just because it didn’t have the software update done i have only had this car since july i had no idea of this or it would have been taken care of i make sure all my cars are up to date on every repair that it may need
I experienced sudden acceleration while attempting to park our car. The car was double parked waiting for my husband to move a car so I could park in that space. I put my foot on the brake to put the car in drive. I start to pull forward and the car takes off and I eventually crashed into my apartment building. I remember having my foot on the break to stop the car and could not. The sudden acceleration caused damage to the building inside and out. I did do some research and saw there are others who have experienced the same thing across different models of Kia.
Oil light comes on after oil change. Check engine light comes on and the car feels like it going to quit or stall when going down high way.
My car has been burning oil and progressively got worse. The oil lamp light would only blink for a few seconds and turn off to indicate the oil tank was low. I would be around 3 quarts of oil low every 2,000 miles. I have taken my vehicle to the KIA dealership and started the process of a oil consumption test to build a case. After some maintenance work and coming due to check back with the dealer for the 3rd engine oil test, the engine light illuminated. I checked my oil level to make sure there was oil in there and after restarting my car the light turned off. 4 days later my car stalled when coming to a stop. After a few minutes I was able to power my car back on and drive it safely home. The car was taken to the Dealership I have been going to in San Bernardino. I let them know I had checked the oil dipstick after the engine light was on before the stall and they told me I would have to start the engine consumption test over for taking out the dipstick, altering the test. My car has been at the dealership for 4 days with no word on why my engine stalled but I can pick up my car today after they do an oil change to begin the oil consumption test again. They asked that I drive 1,000 miles and bring it back for a final check on the oil per KIA's instruction. In the meantime I have to hope that my car will not stall again possibly causing a wreck harming myself and others or that my engine will not fail before the 1,000 miles are up. If I make it to 1,000 I am hoping KIA will honor the powertrain warranty and fix the engine, but my hope is fading. Although a settlement for similar issues has been made in favor of KIA owners, my problems are occurring after the settlement date.
Misfire– oil on the spark plug caused misfire. check engine light came on. OBDII scanner show a P0302 trouble code. Eventually the engine misfired enough and lead to a backfire. This also led to Decreased Fuel Mileage, Catalytic Converter Damage, and Blue Exhaust Smoke.
Rear passenger window failed in June 2021 and cost $700 to fix, not under warranty per dealer. Replaced the window regulator unfortunately, I did not ask for the old part. One week later the rear window on the driver side failed in the same manner. Motor can be heard running and window drops down on it's own. My first fear was I was ripped off and dealer only switched the two parts because what are the chances? Having just spent $700 I did not return immediately but within 2-weeks, before making the appointment the passenger front window breaks! So at that point I start thinking a there must be a recall and start checking. I don't learn the cause of the issue until last month, Sept when the final window gave up as well. Not having the driver door window in FL where I drive on bridges is a hazard. I learned that a "plastic on plastic gear mechanism" fails over time. I am single and rarely have anyone in the rear seats so those gears crumbled from lack of use! KIA changed the design in 2018 due to failures but is failing to take care of earlier models costing owners thousands in repairs. I am the original owner, the car was 5-years old Feb 2021 and the car is garaged at work and home. These should be recalled no one should have to pay thousands in repairs when clearly this is defective and dangerous. All of the windows broke while the car was driving down the road. I live in Florida and this happened during storm season. Very luckily for the interior it wasn't raining as the windows were in the down position when they would not return to closed. I drive over Tampa Bay every day for work so not having working windows is dangerous. Someone should hold KIA accountable they know they are defective. I heard from a Hyundai owner they have the same problem, no surprise KIA owns Hyundai! I bet they changed that design too! My car is garaged work & home so likely helped mine from crumbling under warranty. Please recall window regulators!
Air bag light came on after I also began having issues with blind spot detection warning lights. ABS lights on as well. Took vehicle to Kia Dealer in Gainesville GA and they told me it was the left rear wheel sensor. Wanted $800 to repair ( no longer under warranty). Took vehicle to my mechanic, who ordered the part and replaced sensor. ABS lights & BSD lights went off for almost 2 weeks, then came back on. Air bag light has not gone off.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not replicate the headlight failure. The dealer replaced both rear windows. However, the failure recurred with the front driver’s and passenger’s side windows. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
There have been 2 occasions while driving at night with the headlights on auto that the lights have gone off for no apparent reason. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I was driving on a major highway and was not able to get to the side of the road. The entire dash went out. This was very dangerous as I could not see anything in front of me. After jiggling the turn signal switch the lights did come back on. I have taken the car into a dealership and also into an independent service center to have the problem addressed. Neither location was able to reproduce the incident. The best guess from the dealer was a headlight switch and from the independent service center their guess was possible an ignition switch. Both of the estimates were unable to confirm that replacing the switch would correct the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure.

The contact stated that after an oil change on the vehicle, the mechanic informed the contact that there was only a ½ quart of oil in the engine prior to the oil change. A few weeks after the oil change was performed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and checked and noticed that the oil level was very low. The contact added 4 quarts of oil to the engine to fix the failure however, the failure recurred. The contact was concerned about the excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was driving the car on the high way when I suddenly heard a strange noise from the engine with a shake in the car then the car completely switched to the hybrid engine from the gas one. The hybrid battery was depleted within a minute or two but I was able to put the car on the side of the high was before it completely stopped moving. After that whenever I press on the gas pedal nothing happened there was zero propulsion. I took the car for inspection the hybrid battery was depleted so it got replaced but then the engine itself isn't working and apparently there is a metallic parts in the oil My car is available for inspection if needed It was definitely unsafe to break down in the middle of the highway I believe the normal non hybrid car had a recall issue with the engine and the hybrid has the exact gas engine the 2.4L one The car wasn't inspected yet by the dealership as it is hard to get an appointment The car had 2 codes before breaking they were P0014 and P0420 they appeared approximately 2 weeks before the incident
I was driving at night lights turned on of course then all of sudden they turned off I couldn't see i had to slam my brakes on almost crashed and this is the 3 time this has happened I usually don't drive at night so I didn't notice this problem as a problem I was thinking maybe it was the street lights were to bright and caused them to turn off but on a very dark street with no lights and it happened again then I realized this is a serious problem but this has happened the times I have drove at night. This is very dangerous for this to happen it is going to cause someone to lose their life if it hasn't happened already. This really needs to be looked into a recall for this issue. Please fix
Since purchasing this car I’ve had to have electrical repairs done every year. If it’s not the seat it’s the window. If it’s not the window it’s the dash. A couple of days ago my husband said he noticed that the oil in the car was running low really fast. We had just done an oil change on the car not even 30 days prior to this. We were driving late at night back from a work trip when al of a sudden the check engine light came on and the motor started to shake and a thudding noise was getting louder. We were able to pull over and saw that there was literally no oil in the car. No warning nothing. Again we had just had an oil change not even 30 days prior. My father had to come tow us home an hour and a half away because he was worried with the sounds it was making that it might blow. There was smoke coming from the exhaust and the motor was shaking like it had no control. I’ve read multiple issues just like this one and of course my car just passed warranty. I’m not even done paying the car off. This should be an issue Kia has to fix by now with so many similar complaints. It’s dangerous and fraud. I’m just lucky the car was able to pull over safely as my husband and our 8 month old were in the car with me. Please help get this fixed. I’m now out of a car that’s only 5 years old and not paid off.
2016 Optima with 111K miles: 7/17/19 car received ECU upgrade for the KSDS system. After upgrade, on 5/23/2020 at 90K miles, the car started to shake/knock, engine light came on, car went in to limp mode, car was taken back to the Kia dealer, code was recorded as P1326, another update was performed, and due to excessive damage bearings were replaced. Car performed ok until 9/22/21, again the car started to shake violently (bucking), loud knocking sound, engine light came on, went into limp mode, was pulled over immediately, dealership contacted, car driven directly there (3 miles). Notified at 4:30pm "there was a complete failure of the 'Fuel Injector System' and needed replacement". Was told that the "entire fuel injector system failed allowing fuel to soak and flood into the cylinder and spark plugs". This was ALARMING. Luckily, we knew to pull the car over and keep the RPMs below 1500, and only traveled a few miles. Had we been driving for a while, or the engine had been hot I do not think a rupture of the entire fuel injection system that again is located in the cylinders of the engine would have ended well. Kia Service now telling me the "Lifetime Warranty" on engine is not applicable bc a code did not get captured. The fact that my car previously captured that code speaks to the fact that the engine was faulty on production, misaligned, allowing damage to occur from mile 1 on. ECU upgrades and replaced bearings do not remove the damage that was previously sustained by the migration of metal shavings throughout the engine compartment for the 90,000 miles before it was detected and repairs were made. While the "Lifetime Warranty" speaks to engine replacement and engine repairs the original class action suit was due to engine fires, which you all (NHTSA) determined in its reporting that the exact cause of the fires in all cases was “undetermined”; noting dealers should be looking at fuel and or oil leaks within the engine. This is alarming to say the least.
Without heavy use (I don’t often have passengers in the back seat), driver side rear window regulator/motor failed in May, causing the rear window to fall into the door while driving. This is a major safety issue as anything can go through the car - rain or debris. It was roughly $600. This weekend, the same thing happened to another window out of the blue while having my dog in the back who nearly jumped out after it fell into the door. Now, the part is backordered and the Kia dealership has said it could be months before the window can be repaired and they offer no solution on how to keep the window up in the meantime. This is an expensive safety issue and should not be failing in multiple windows. My car only has 65k miles on it.
Headlights, set in AUTO, randomly will briefly go dark at night while the vehicle is in motion, putting driver at risk of night-time crash. Headlights can be re-illuminated by turning the lights off and back on. This issue has not been by dealer, service tech, or any other party. The issue occurred twice 9/15/2021, and once previously on an unknown date. There were no warning signs, dashboard lights, or any other indication of malfunction.
A straight line crack about 4 inches long appeared suddenly on my dash. Upon doing some online research, I found that the crack is directly over the dash mounted airbag. I took the vehicle to the local KIA dealer and they said it was not covered by the warranty. My concern is that the crack may impede the deployment of the airbag in a critical situation. I feel it should be investigated because there are a lot of exact same complains on the internet concerning a crack at the same location.
Here in Wisconsin Kias are being stolen at an alarming rate. It’s the most stolen car. It is being stated that this is due to how the cars were made and that Kia knew this but didn’t disclose it. My car was stolen at work, along with other coworkers. This is beyond insane. How many more cars have to be taken due to manufactures negligence for something to be done.
I'm about to replace my THIRD window accuator on this car. The first one that failed was the rear passenger side at 54000 miles. The window was rarely if ever used, failed any way. The second failed at 60,000 miles.. driver side rear. Like the first, rarely used window. Now the third has failed at 66,000 miles. Cost to replace, over $300 because a $5 sprocket fails. Windows failing is definitely a safety issue.
While driving at night with the "auto" function for the headlights on they turn off at random. This has happened numerous times during the past year. Very dangerous on dark roads. Dealer could not replicate situation to repair. No warning lights appeared.

My dash told me I have a headlight out. The headlight seems to come on and off from time to time. Now it says both are out. Every now and again they both come back on. It seems as though I have an electrical issue going on all of a sudden. But could be due to the engine running poorly causing disconnections In the wiring harness. The engine is shaking pretty bad and awaiting my scheduled appointment.
The engine is sputtering. Dealership can’t get my car in for two weeks due to their full schedule. They stated as long as the check engine light isn’t flashing it’s ok to drive. The motor sounds like a farm tractor.
As I was driving on the highway my vehicle started to decelerate without warning. I was able to move to shoulder and when the car came to a stop the temperature gauge immediately went from cold to hot and the engine light came on and the dash displayed engine overheating. While researching what to do if your engine overheats, I came across the issues Kia has been having with their engines. I had the car towed to the dealership for inspection and was told my vehicle would not be covered because I didn’t do the product replacement which I had no knowledge of. After calling the manufacturer and talking to several reps I was ultimately blamed for the defect and not knowing about the problem so therefore it’s not Kia’s responsibility to fix my vehicle. One rep told me that Kia sent out notices according to DMV records, which means I should have received a notice. Another rep discovered that they did not have a correct address for me on file and said that it was my fault because I am supposed to update my address when I purchased the vehicle. I was also told by a supervisor that customers that buy new cars get priority in being contacted and that used car costumers are supposed to notify the manufacture when they buy a car so that’s why I received no notification of the recalls or product replacement. I received less than adequate customer service, and being blamed for a problem that resulted for Kias negligence is totally unacceptable.
All 4 of my windows have stoped working and fall down while driving it started pouring down my driver window fell down and I almost wrecked I see a lot of people having the same issue
Having trouble with my driverside window it let's down but will not let back up i called kia and they want over 200.00 to diagnose it plus labor to fix it from what I have been reading online alot of people are having the same issue
About 3 weeks ago my headlight Auto dash notification would flash on and off for probably 8 times. It was day time so I didn't think anything of it. Last week I was driving in the dark and my head lights turned off completely. I was able to get them back on. I started doing research and other people have had the same issue stating that it is the multifunction switch. Again this morning driving in the dark they turned off completely again. This is dangerous for not just the driver and passengers of the car but also other drivers if you can not be seen. This needs to be recalled and needs to be fixed sooner than later. Please help.
All four of my car windows fall down unexpectedly due a defect in the window regulator part, and window motor. The windows do not respond to door controls and I've now had to spend approx. $3500. and many trips to the dealer repair shop to get these windows fixed. I live in Florida, and when a window opens unexpectedly in the middle of a severe rain storm and cannot be closed, this is a safety hazard. I've had to pull over when there is very limited visibility on the road, and try, usually unsuccessfully, to close the window. The glass windows are fairly heavy and my attempts to tape them shut do not work. I've contacted KIA consumer affairs and have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but so far KIA has done nothing and has not responded to the BBB (according to the last BBB email I received). The 4th window is being fixed today at the dealer, and another window is getting re-repaired, I don't know if any of the repairs will last, as every few months another window breaks.
When I was driving at 4:45am it was total darkness still out my exterior headlights shut off and I could not see. It is always set on auto. It just happened out of no where and I could not see. I could have had an accident. Now i have read that a few people have had this same problem. About a month ago they kind of went off then on again bit i thought maybe they were switching to daytime lights. Now today they just shut off in total darkness. This needs to be looked into! Especially if many people report same problem. Now i did pull over where I could then switched the lights to just the on mode and they worked fine tell I got home but I don't know what's happening. Does this mean they will work on the on mode or lights eventually wont work at all?? Is it a fuse or relay? Idk please check onto this.
When I turn on my blinkers my headlights sometimes flash off (without turning them off). Then come back on when I turn off the blinker. My trunk has also lost power and will no longer unlock.

The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer had not approved the vehicle for an engine repair because the software update had not been performed on the vehicle. The contact stated that she had not received a notice from the manufacturer for the software update. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and initially informed the contact that the engine would be repaired under the warranty coverage however, the manufacturer later informed the contact that because the software update was not performed, the warranty coverage would be declined. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
2016 kia Optima will not go in reverse. It will only work in drive. Tried to drive out of my driveway today. 07.22.2021 and the car would not go in reverse. Pulled back in the driveway and will not drive due to safety hazard.

Burns oil, worn piston rings, bad gaskets! Engine replacement
My 2016 KIA was consuming 1 quart of oil every 500 miles in 2021. Called KIA dealer about oil consumption issue and they started 3-1000 mile oil consumption tests on 4/6/21 (miles 92,053). On the 1st 1000 mile test, 2 qts of oil were consumed. 2nd 1000 mile test 1.2 qts of oil were consumed. 3rd 1000 mile test 1.5 qts of oil were consumed. All results were reported to KIA. The 3rd oil consumption test was completed on 5/27/21 (miles 95,065) and I went home and checked the oil level on the dipstick, which was filled correctly to the full mark. On 5/28/21 the service mgr called to schedule an engine compression test on 6/8/21. On the morning of 6/8/21, I checked the engine oil and it was more than a qt low (miles 95,510) with only 445 miles since the oil was topped off. Delivered car to KIA for the engine compression test on 6/8/21, told service mgr of the 1 qt oil consumption in 445 miles, and he informed me that if the compression test is good, KIA will direct an engine cleaning procedure per KIA TSB 222. When TSB 222 was completed, they stated another 1000 mile oil consumption test had to be completed. On 6/9/21 I returned to the KIA dealer to pick up my car. Requested to check the engine oil level with the mechanic since this was the start of the 1000 mile test. The car was returned to the service floor, time was allowed for oil draindown, and the mechanic pulled the dipstick which indicated the oil was overfilled by approx 1/3 quart. Took a picture of the dipstick level. The service manager was told of the situation. No action was taken. They sealed the dipstick and I departed. Printed TSB 222 from NHTSA website. On 6/24/21 returned for 1000 mile check. I witnessed (took picture) mechanic check the oil and he said it was less than a qt. I showed service mgr the overfill picture. He change the consumption to 1 qt. Spoke with KIA mgr. He said another 1000 mile check was to be performed. Since TSB 222 states oil is to be filled to full mark, their test is invalid.
In August 2020, my check engine light started blinking which means my engine went into limp mode. I had it towed to the Kia dealership in Birmingham Alabama. They did a reset due to knock sensor detection. In October 2020, the engine light came in again. I took it to the Kia dealership in Murfreesboro and they had to replace a head in my engine. My engine has been burning oil so much so that I can’t even make it 3,000 miles between oil changes without having to add more oil. In June 2021, engine light is on again. This is the vehicle I use to transport my children to and from school and myself back and forth to work, this vehicle is unsafe due to the fact that an engine should not have this many issues and with a known recall Kia should replace the engines to prevent someone from being hurt or killed due to engine failure.
The cars headlights turn off while driving under normal conditions. This has happened at least four times in a one month period. This is extremely dangerous as some areas are not well lit or an oncoming car may not see us. I have looked online and I see that this very same issue is occurring with this make and model dating back 6 or more months. It makes no sense that the bulbs would be defective since all lights go off and come back on randomly.
My 2016 Kia is burning excessive oil. After, each oil change; 400-500 miles later; the oil dipstick show the oil is at, the low Mark on the dipstick. I took the vehicle into the Kia Dealership; where they performed an oil compression test. On, 05-028-2021. We were told to drive the vehicle for a thousand miles; and, return it back to the dealership to complete the oil compression test. The dealership claimed I need a new engine. Because, there's a problem with the barring in the engine. I was told a new engine would cost $8,000 to replace. Since; there's no extended warranty. We have mantain regular oil changes between 2-3 weeks. Or, every 300-400 miles. The vehicle was purchased at about,54000 miles. And, now has 71000 miles. To our knowledge; there are other Kia vehicles under recall; which, shared the same problem; and, is deem unsafe. Because of,a defect in the engine's design cause, metal shavings to build up and, circulate through the engine, causing; a blown engine. And, a potential safety issue.

VEHICLE CONSUMES OIL AT HIGH RATE. APPROXIMATELY 5 QTS PER 3000 MILES DRIVEN SOMETIMES MORE OFTEN. AFTER NEW OIL IS ADDED, ACCELERATION WILL DELAY AT TIMES, USUALLY WHEN STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGINS MOVING FORWARD A CLOUD OF BLUISH/WHITE EXHAUST WILL BE CREATED. THE CLOUDS OF EXHAUST OCCURS MORE OFTEN JUST AFTER AN OIL CHANGE OR OIL IS ADDED. THE BULLETIN STATED THAT OWNERS OF SAID KIA OPTIMA COULD BRING THE VEHICLE TO A KIA DEALERSHIP AND THE ANTENNA WOULD BE REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE BY KIA MOTORS FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I CALLED TWO KIA DEALERSHIP AND LATER KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE CSR SAID THAT SHE DID NOT PULL UP A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I GAVE HER THE TSB NUMBER. A POSTER SAID HIS KIA DEALERSHIP REPLACED HIS 2016 KIA OPTIMA BROKEN ANTENNA WITHOUT CHARGE. THE CSR SAID THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION WOULD HAVE TO INITIATE/ORDER THE RECALL AND LIST MY MODEL OF THE 2016 KIA OPTIMA IN ORDER FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ANTENNA AT NO COST. THREE OF THE WINDOW REGULATORS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME AND THE FORTH TWO WEEKS LATER. I HAD THEM REPAIRED FOR A ALMOST $ 2000 SINCE THE THE VEHICLE HAS 62K MILES AND THE WARRANTY WAS GOOD TILL 60K MILES.

AND THAT THE ENGINE CAN BE DANGEROUS KIA HAVE BEEN FOUND LIABLE FOR THESE CLAIMS. THEY SAID THEY GAVE ME EXTRA WARRANTY BUT IF IT CATCHES ON FIRE OR EXPLODES THEN THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME AND BY THEN IT IS TOO LATE!! I TOLD THEM THAT I AM SCARED SINCE I AM A GIRL AND KEEP ADDING OIL AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE ENGINE MACHINE MALFUNCTION CAN DO. I COULD CHECK THE OIL BEFORE GOING SOME WHERE BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE OIL WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY IT IS UNPREDICTABLE. I WAS JUST GETTING ON TO THE HIGHWAY AND MY SUNROOF EXPLODED! IT TOOK ME A SECOND TO REALIZE THATS WHAT HAD HAPPENED IT SOUNDED LIKE A VERY LOUD POP OR GUN SHOT ALMOST I PULLED OVER AND SEEN MY ENTIRE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT THIRTY MILES PER HOUR IN TRAFFIC I HEARD A BANG AND MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. THANKFULLY THE SUN SHADE WAS CLOSED OR SHARDS OF GLASS WOULD HAVE HIT ME. THE CAR BEHIND ME SWERVED PROBABLY TO AVOID THE GLASS. IT WAS SCARY AND I INITIALLY THOUGHT AN ACCIDENT HAD OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT HOW THIS HAPPENED AND CHANGE THE DESIGN TO PREVENT IT.

MID SEPTEMBER, 2020, I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF AS I WAS DRIVING. THEY WOULD CUT OFF FOR NO MORE THAN 15 SECONDS AND TURN BACK ON. AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR BEGAN TO JUMP AND HESITATE. NO MATTER HOW FAR DOWN I PUSHED THE GAS, THE CARE WAS JUMPING/SHAKING AND WOLD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20MPH. I PULLED INTO AN AUTOZONE WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE. ERROR CODE P1326 (KNOCK SENSOR) CAME UP. THE NEXT MORNING, I CALLED COASTAL KIA OF WILMINGTON IN NORTH CAROLINA AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY SENT AN EMPLOYEE TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE (12/01/2020). THEY INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AND INFORMED ME THAT THE PROTOCOL WAS TO PERFORM A BEARING CLEARANCE TEST AND ECU UPGRADE. I PICKED UP MY CAR ON 12/02/2020. A WEEK LATER, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND INFORMED THEM THAT ALTHOUGH MY ENGINE LIGHT HAD NOT COME BACK ON, THE ACCELERATION ISSUE WAS STILL OCCURRING. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE CAR AGAIN, TO WHICH THEY SAID NO, THAT THEY CANNOT TAKE A FURTHER LOOK AT IT UNTIL THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. ON 12/20/2020 I WAS DRIVING 40MPH WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO STUTTER UNCONTROLLABLY. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I CALLED KIA AGAIN TO INFORM THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED, AND THEY AGREED TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. ON 12/22/2020 THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THAT MY CAR WAS BURNING OIL AND SMOKING EXCESSIVELY. THEY OPENED A TECH CASE WITH KIA AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR UNTIL THEY HEARD BACK FROM THEM. ON 12/23/2020 THEY CALLED ME AGAIN TO TELL ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL, AND THAT MY NEXT STEP WOULD BE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE.

DRIVER TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, BUT BRAKE WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN. ALSO TRIED TO TURN STEERING WHEEL TO AVOID ONCOMING WESTBOUND TRAFFIC, BUT STEERING WHEEL DID NOT WORK EITHER. DRIVER HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THE CAR ACCELERATED AND VEERED LEFT FOR ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE UNTIL IT FINALLY HIT A CURB, THEN FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL, ROTOR, AND SUSPENSION BROKE. IT SEEMED AS IF CAR WAS STILL TRYING TO ACCELERATE AFTER IT HIT THE CURB BECAUSE THERE ARE SKID MARKS FROM THE TIRES AFTER IMPACT. WHEN THE CAR STOPPED, THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WERE NO LONGER STUCK. THE STEERING WHEEL ROTATED PROPERLY AND BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED DOWN WITH EASE. BECAUSE OF BROKEN WHEEL, CAR WAS NOT OPERABLE AFTERWARD AND WAS TOWED TO COLLISION CENTER. COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND INSPECTION COMPLETED, BUT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANY ERRORS WITH THE CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR ANY OTHER ERRORS. THE AIR BAG MODULE REPORT COINCIDES WITH THE MALFUNCTION CLAIM THAT I FILED WITH KIA ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, BUT KIA STATED THERE WEREN'T ANY ERROR CODES IN THE REPORT. AFTER REPAIRS AND INSPECTION WERE COMPLETED, I TRADED-IN THE VEHICLE OUT OF FEAR THAT THIS MALFUNCTION MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. ONCE DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND ON THE SECOND OCCASION WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE. I ALSO NOTICED WHEN OPENING THE DOOR, IT DOESN'T OPEN AS SMOOTHLY. THE WIRING IN THIS VEHICLE IS SOY-BASED AND IS ATTRACTIVE TO RODENTS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED RODENT DAMAGE TWICE NOW TOTALING ABOUT $3000 IN DAMAGES. I HAVE CONTACTED KIA AND THEY SUGGESTED MAKING A CLAIM ON INSURANCE. THE FIRST TIME DAMAGE OCCURRED WAS IN 11/2019 WE MADE A CLAIM ON INSURANCE. THIS TIME WE WILL PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE OF THE FEAR INSURANCE MIGHT DROP US FOR MAKING CONTINUED CLAIMS. DID SOME RESEARCH TO FIND IT'S A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM ON KIA'S FOR THE REGULATORS TO BREAK. SO I BROUGHT IT TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT I NEED TO CALL KIA BECAUSE IT HAD 1/2 QUART OF OIL IN THE PAN AND SOMETHING JUST ISNT RIGHT. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND NOBODY HAS HEARD OF THESE ENGINES BEING KNOWN FOR DRINKING OIL. SO I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND ALL THESE STORIES LEADING TO AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. BUT EVERY NOW AND THEN( GETTING OFF SUBJECT) HER LIGHTS WILL JUST TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THANKFULLY I WAS DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WAS ABLE TO NOT RUN OFF THE ROAD. ON 1/12/2020, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR 2016 KIA OPTIMA FROM ALPHARETTA TO DECATUR TO ATTEND CHURCH. I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE CHURCH AND PARKED. A FEW SECONDS AFTER I PARKED, I BEGAN SEEING LOTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE POLICE MEN WHO WERE IN THE PARKING LOT DIRECTING TRAFFIC ASKED ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR QUICKLY AND BEGAN ATTEMPTING TO QUENCH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. SHORTLY AFTER, THE DEKALB FIRE DEPT ARRIVED AND FOUGHT TO PUT OUT AND CONTAIN THE FIRE. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO THE TOW YARD. I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY RIGHT AWAY AND AFTER A FEW DAYS OF INVESTIGATION, UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. NEXT DAY, I CHECKED MY VIN # TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS BY KIA THAT I WAS NOT AWARE OF, BUT THE RESULTS CAME BACK SAYING 'NO RECORDS' AND '0 RECALLS FOUND'. ON 1/15/2020 AT APPROXIMATELY 12.50PM, I CONTACTED KIA CORPORATE AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND I WAS INFORMED WHEN I GAVE MY STATEMENT OVER THE PHONE THAT THERE WAS AN ' OPEN CAMPAIGN PI 1802 ECU UPGRADE' AND AS ADVISED BY THE KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE REP THAT HE WILL BE FORWARDING MY COMPLAINT TO A THE NATIONAL DEPT AND THEY WILL GET BACK TO ME. A KIA REP ASHLEY CONTACTED ME AND ADVISED KIA ENGINEERS WILL LIKE TO INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENED. AFTER 3 WEEKS OF WAITING, THE REP CONTACTED ME STATING THEY WILL LIKE TO PAY OFF REMAINING BAL ON MY CAR, AND PERSONAL ITEMS. THEY WILL NOT HELP ME WITH GETTING ANOTHER CAR AND I DECLINED BECAUSE I LOST EVERYTHING AND INCURRED A GREATER DAMAGE. THEN THE KIA REP WROTE ME STATING THAT THEY ILL NO LONGER PURSUE INVESTIGATING SINCE I REFUSED ACCEPTING $1001 MY LEFT OVER BALANCE OWED TO THE LENDER. I WAS DRIVING IN THE EVENING AT 25-30MPH ON A CITY STREET. THERE WERE NO PARKED CARS, NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, NO PEDESTRIANS OR BICYCLES FOR THREE BLOCKS AHEAD OF ME. WITHOUT ANY FORWARD COLLISION WARNING OR ROAD HAZARD, MY CAR'S AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB) SYSTEM INITIATED AND APPLIED FULL BRAKING FORCE TO MY CAR FOR NO REASON. THE CAR BEEPED CONTINUOUSLY AND FLASHED A RED "EMERGENCY BRAKING" NOTIFICATION IN THE DASH CONSOLE. THE VEHICLE ANTI-LOCKING BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED IN RESPONSE TO THE APPLIED BRAKING FROM THE AEB. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL OR STOP THE BRAKING DURING THE EVENT. ONCE THE CAR WAS FULLY STOPPED, THE RED DASH NOTIFICATION STOPPED, THE BEEPING STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME COULD PROCEED.

THIS CAUSES REDUCTION IN POWER DURING ACCELERATION, AND ELEVATES ENGINE IDLE SPEEDS TO 1200-1400 RPM. THIS ELEVATION IN ENGINE SPEED CAUSES THE CAR TO TRY TO MOVE FORWARD EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THIS COULD EASILY LEAD TO VEHICLE CRASHING. THIS, I BELIEVE, SHOULD BE A PART OF RECALL INSTEAD OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED IN DEC 26, 2018 MARCH 2ND 2019 THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION PER KIA MOTOR GROUP TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALER I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WIRING HARNESS 'KNOCK APRIL 19, 2019 I PICKED UP MY CAR ONLY TO GET IT A FEW MILES AND THEN RETURNED IT DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AGAIN AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE I WAS TOLD THEY HAD ORDERED THE WRONG WIRING HARNESS AND WOULD ORDER THE CORRECT ONE. MAY 3, 2019 PICKED UP MY CAR AND IT SEEMED TO BE OK UNTIL MAY 14TH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE SO RETURNED TO BOB MOORE KIA AUG 1, 2019 PICKED UP MY CAR AND THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY CHANGED THE KNOCK SENSOR. MY CAR WAS GOOD UNTIL OCT 17, 2019 AGAIN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE, MY CARE AGAIN IS A BOB MOORE KIA. I HAVE A CASE WITH KIA MOTOR, THEY HAVE ASSIGNED ME A PERSON NAMED MELISSA AND SHE HAS ALL BUT TOLD ME TO DEAL WITH SOMEONE TO TRADE OR REPORT AS A LEMON, SHE ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED AND WHEN I SAID TO HELP ME GET THIS TRADED WITHOUT BEING UPSIDE DOWN SINCE WAS IN SHOP AND WILL NEVER GET WHAT I SHOULD FOR IT AND SHE SAID IT IS UP TO ME TO DEAL WITH A DEALER. I ALSO CALLED KIA REPAIR DEPARTMENT 10/25/19 AND WAS TOLD THEY ARE PUTTING MY CAR ON THE BACK BURNER AND IT SEEMS THAT THEY ARE NOT IN ANY HURRY TO HELP ME GET IT FIXED, THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS I DO HAVE A LOANER TO DRIVE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY JERKED TWICE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. IMMEDIATELY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SATURDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 28TH. THE TECH PERSON AT KIA COUNTRY OF SAVANNAH HOOK THE COMPUTER DEVICE TO FIND THE ISSUE. HE STATED IT WAS DUE TO AIR FLOW SENSOR. I ADVISED HIM I WOULD BE TRAVELING TO PORT CANAVERAL, FL IN THE EARLY MORNING FOR A CRUISE. HE SAID THE VEHICLE WOULD BE FINE AND I WOULD LOSE A MILE OR TWO ON FUEL ECONOMY. WTH! HE DISENGAGED THE ENGINE WARNING SIGNAL THEN SAYS "IF IT COME BACK ON, YOU WILL BE OKAY." WELL, THE NEXT MORNING, I DROVE MY CAR TO ORLANDO FOR AN OVERNIGHT STAY THEN ON TO PORT CANAVERAL THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. OF COURSE, I DROVE AROUND ORLANDO AREA. THE CHECK ENGINE COME ON, AGAIN, THEN WENT OFF ON ITS OWN. HERE IS WHERE THINGS REALLY WENT DOWNHILL. I MADE IT BACK TO SAVANNAH DURING A BAD THUNDERSTORM. THE CAR STARTED TO STUTTER LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO SHUT OFF. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR HOME AND PARKED IT UNTIL MONDAY MORNING. UPON DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP, I LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER AND COAST FOR ABOUT AN HALF MILE TO THE SERVICE CENTER. BY THIS TIME, I AM ABOUT TO EXPLODE WITH ANGER. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE MONDAY MORNING, I AM DRIVING A RENTAL CAR PAID BY THE DEALERSHIP. FINALLY, YESTERDAY, I WAS TOLD THE ISSUE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS THAT WAS COVERED BY A RECALL. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN THEM MONTHS AGO ABOUT SOME KNOCKING NOISES THAT I HEARD. ONLY TO BE TOLD, I WAS HEARING THINGS. AFTER READING REVIEWS, I AM CONCERNED THAT ISSUE IS GOING TO GROW INTO A MAJOR ONE. THE CAR HAS ONLY 36,000 MILES.

OF INTERSTATE 35 NORTH) MY VEHICLE GOT DOWN TO ABOUT 40MPH WHEN WE HAD TO COAST UNTIL I FINALLY FOUND A BREAK IN THE BARRIERS. WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. THEY WERE VEHICLES OBVIOUSLY DRIVING SPEED. LIMIT BEHIND US. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE AND CALL ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE. THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE BACK TO UNIVERSITY KIA IN WACO, TEXAS. WHERE IT CURRENTLY SITS, AWAITING A NEW TRANSMISSION. WE ARE TERRIFIED TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR AGAIN. ALL I AM BEING TOLD IS THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION IS BEING ORDERED AT THIS TIME.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE DEALER WAS INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AND THEY WOULD NOT GET PAID TO PERFORM THE REPAIR; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,323.

WHILE DRIVING WITH LIGHTS IN AUTO MODE THEY WILL RANDOMLY COME ON IN DAYLIGHT AND GO OFF IN DARKNESS. IF YOU SWITCH TO MANUAL IT WORKS PROPERLY, BUT IN AUTO IT'S TOTALLY RANDOM AND HAPPENS WITH NO CHANGE IN OUTSIDE LIGHTING CONDITIONS.
STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNED TO THE RIGHT IS VERY LOOSE TO THE LEFT VERY TIGHT. OCCASSIONALLY IT LOCKS COMPLETELY CAUSING VEHICLE TO EITHER BE UNABLE TO TURN OR MERGE LANES, OR EVEN MORE DANGEROUSLY CAUSES THE CAR TO VEER TO THE RIGHT WITH NO ABILITY TO MOVE IT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON THE HIGHWAY TYPICALLY AT SPEEDS OR 55 OR HIGHER. THE TIGHTNESS/LOOSENESS USUALLY HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED OR TYPE OF ROADWAY.

I WAS CHANGING OUT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND I NOTICED ON THE DRIVER SIDE THE BOOT AROUND THE AXEL HAD CRACKED AND THE GREASE HAD LEAKED OUT.
WHILST THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON ANY ROAD THE HEADLIGHTS WILL SHUT THEMSELVES OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN TURN BACK ON. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE SWITCH SETTING IS SET TO AUTO OR IS IN THE ON POSITION. WHEN I GOOGLE SEARCH THE ISSUE I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE. THE DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD WHICH DISPLAYS THE LIGHT SWITCH SETTINGS POPS UP AND HIGHLIGHTS THE "AUTO" POSITION AND THEN DISAPPEARS. I AM NOT SURE IF THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN THE SWITCH IS IN THE "ON" POSITION. WHEN IT HAPPENS I WILL SOMETIMES MOVE THE SWITCH AND THE LIGHTS COME ON AGAIN, AND SOMETIMES THIS DOES NOT HELP AND I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH NO HEADLIGHTS AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY ON VERY DARK ROADS. WHEN DRIVING IN THE DAYLIGHT I WILL SEE THE DISPLAY FOR THE LIGHT SWITCH POSITION APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING THAT THIS CONDITION IS HAPPENING DURING THE DAY AS WELL. THIS IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE, IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR.

I WENT TO KIA ON THE 3RD DAY, TO CHECK IT ON THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAITING ON APPROVAL FROM KIA AUTOMOTIVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION A 2ND TIME DO TO THE LEAKING OF THE FIRST TRANSMISSION

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OFF BY THEMSELVES WHILE I HAVE THE SWITCH IN THE AUTO MODE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND BACK ROADS. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO A KIA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR BUT THEY FAILED TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE SITUATION. THIS PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT VISIT BUT HAS SINCE STARTED UP AGAIN. I ALSO RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING A NEW PROBLEM WHERE THE PARKING LIGHTS WILL GO ON BY THEMSELVES WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE OFF OVERNIGHT. THE LIGHTS THEN GO OFF BY THEMSELVES SEVERAL HOURS LATER.

ON 7/29/19 MY VEHICLE MIL LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65MPH. TOOK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS. ON 8/2/19 PICKED UP CAR. ON 8/7/19 THE MIL LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN A RENTAL. ON 8/13/19 REC'D TEXT VEHICLE WAS DONE. ON 8/21/19 SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN EACH TIME I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES MY CAR AS WELL. SAYING THEY NEEDED MORE TIME TO DIAGNOSE IT,ABS PUT ME IN A LOANER CAR I DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING FROM THE DEALER MONDAY THEY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. I STOPPED BY AND WAS TOLD THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR ONLY HAD 56K MILES ON IT. I PICK UP THE CAR ON FRIDAY.

SERVICE DEPT, DUE TO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH AIRPORT KIA'S NEGLIGENCE AND REFUSAL TO FIX DEFOGGING ISSUES I HAD ON A PREVIOUS 2014 KIA OPTIMA THAT ALSO HAD SAFETY ISSUES. G.A. MADE REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE FOR THAT VISIT. ON 6/24/19, IT WAS TOWED AGAIN TO G.A. FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE MILES DROPPED FROM 45 TO 35 WHILE DRIVING AND BEGAN TO JERK FORCEFULLY AGAIN. BOTH TIMES ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS TIME G.A.'S DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE DIDN'T PULL UP ANY ISSUES WITH MY 2016 OPTIMA. THEY OPENED UP A CASE WITH THE KIA CONSUMER TECHNICAL DEPT. WHEN I CALLED G.A. A FEW DAYS LATER, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS SUGGESTED THEY CHANGE OUT THE KNOCK SENSOR. ON 6/28/19, THE REGIONAL ANALYST CONTACTED ME. I VOICED MY CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND THAT AIRPORT KIA GAVE ME ANOTHER DEFECTIVE CAR THAT PUTS MINE, MY CHILD'S LIFE AND THOSE AROUND ME IN JEOPARDY. I STRESSED HOW THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE ISN'T EVEN PICKING UP THE ISSUE OF MY VEHICLE SO BASICALLY THE ENGINEERS ARE GOING BASED ON HYPOTHETICAL'S AND CAN'T GUARANTEE SAFETY OF THE CAR. MULTIABLE OCCASIONS OF POWER STEERING LOSS AT LOW SPEEDS (15MPH OR LESS). THE POWER STEERING UNIT APPEARS TO STOP WORKING WHICH RESULTS IN THE INABILITY TO TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THIS CONDITION WITH THE KIA OPTIMA RESULTS IN A NEAR COMPLETE LACK OF STEERING, NOT JUST DIFFICULTY TURNING. THE CONDITION APPEARS TO BE PRECEDED WITH A STICKING OR CLICKING CONDITION THAT INCREASES IN FREQUENCY UNTIL THE SYSTEM FAILS. TURNING OFF THE CAR THEN RESTARTING IT APPEARS TO CLEAR THE ISSUE AND STEERING RETURNS TO NORMAL FOR A DECREASING PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN EACH EPISODE. THE CAR HAS SPENT OVER TWO WEEKS AT THE LOCAL KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHOUT THEM BEING ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE.
THE DRIVERS SIDE RUNNING LIGHT WENT OUT ONE DAY AND MY CAR ALERTED THAT IT WAS OUT. I CHANGED THE BULB AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE FUSE APPEARED OK, HOWEVER I REPLACED IT JUST TO BE SURE. THERE WAS STILL NO CHANGE. CHECKED THE POWER TO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND I HAVE POWER ALL THE WAY UP UNTIL IT ENTERS THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE RUNNING LIGHT ONLY. THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A WHOPPING $360.
I RENTED A VEHICLE FROM FAIR/UBER UNDER A CALIFORNIA PROMOTION. IN THE UNDERSTANDING THE VEHICLE WAS UBER READY. THREE WEEKS INTO USING THE CAR SQUEEZING BRAKES LET ME TO THE AUTHORISED SHOP FOR MAINTANENCE. IT WAS INSPECTED AND WHAT WAS FOUND MADE THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE. I COULD NOT USE IT FOR ITS PURPOSE. TO DRIVE IT FOR UBER. I HAVE SNAP SHOTS OF THE CONDITION OF THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE SHOCKS OR STRUTS ARE ALSO SHOT AND THE COOLANT RESIVIOR WAS CLOSE TO EMPTY. THE TWO FRONT TIRES ALSO WERE RECOMENDED TO BE REPLACED AS THEY WERE CUPPING. THIS VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED PRIOR TO THERE RELEASING IT TO ME FOR ANY SAFETY ISSUES PRIOR AND WHEN THE INVOICE WAS SENT TO DONLEN, 3 TIMES, WHICH TOOK A WHOLE DAY, WAS FULLY DENIED. REFUSAL TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS CAR IS STILL IN THIS CONDITION. IT WAS REMOVED FROM PEP BOYS ON MISSION GEORGE BY MYSELF. THE NEXT DAY AT 5:06 PM I RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM FAIR SUGGESTING I TAKE IT TO ANOTHER APPROVED SHOP. I REALISED THAT THIS WAS NOT MY DUTY OR MY PROBLEM. I COULD JUST RETURN THE VEHICLE. I WAS I AM DONE WITH THIS COMPANY. IT WAS GOING TO BE A 3 DAY JOB IN THE SHOP. AND FAIR TOLD ME REPEATEDLY THAT THEY HAD NO ABILITY TO PREVENT ME FROM HAVING TO PAY FOR THE WEEK IT WAS DISABLED. I THOUGHT I HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING 65MPH ON A LOCAL INTERSTATE WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, ALL MY DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, I LOST NAVIGATION & RADIO AND MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. I WENT TO TURN ON MY HAZARDS AND THOSE DID NOT WORK EITHER. I CHECKED MY MIRRORS TO MAKE SURE NO ONE WAS GOING TO HIT ME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. THEY REPLACED THAT AND GAVE ME BACK MY CAR. 1 WEEK LATER, SAME ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK IT IN THEY WIPED OFF THE ENGINE LIGHT, DROVE IT FOR A WEEK AND TILD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. SPEAKLESS ON THE WAY KIA HAS HANDLED THIS.

ON APRIL 14TH, WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE, THE WHEEL AGAIN LOCKED UP. I JIGGLED THE WHEEL AND IT RELEASED, SO I PULLED OUT & PROCEEDED TO DRIVE. I REACHED THE END OF MY STREET & WANTED TO TURN & COULD NOT MOVE THE WHEEL. LUCKILY, I WAS STILL IN MY DEVELOPMENT WITH A 25MPH ZONE, SO I TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN, I COULD MOVE THE WHEEL, SO I RETURNED IT TO PARKING SPOT & HAD IT TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 15TH. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR 8 DAYS, DROVE IT FOR 340 MILES & STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, SO THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME & SAID IF THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THEY CANNOT FIX IT. SO I AM NOW DRIVING A CAR IN FEAR THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN & POSSIBLY WHEN ON A HIGHWAY & AT HIGHER SPEED.

WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR ABOUT 2.5 YEARS. 2 DAYS AGO I TOOK IT THROUGH A TOUCH LESS CAR WASH. TODAY I NOTICED THE ANTENNA COVER/ SHARK FIN IS MISSING. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE DO TO WHATEVER THEY DID TO THE CAR IN THE RECALL. I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE, I WAS GOING TO PURCHASE THE CAR AT THE END OF THE LEASE. THE LARGE WARRANTY IS JUST ABOUT UP IN TIME, AND SHOULD ANYTHING OCCUR OUTSIDE OF THE POWER TRAIN, IT IS ON ME. THAT MEAN IF IT TAKES MONTHS OR WEEKS TO FIX THE CAR, I NEED TO LEASE A CAR AND WAIT FOR THE PART. I BECAME VERY IRRITATED ON THE 15TH DAY OF WAITING. THAT WAS NOW ALL MOST A MONTH AGO. I HAVE COMPLAINED FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO KIA LEASE, TO KIA MOTORS AND BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. A LOT OF RUN-AROUND. FINALLY, THEY HAVE ISSUED A LETTER TO PERMIT ME TO PAY $19,040 TO BUY OUT THE LEASE OR AROUND $11,000 TO FIND A NEW LEASE OR JUST $3,000 FOR MY TROUBLES AND KEEP THE CAR. MY WORRY IS IF SOMETHING ELSE GOES WRONG, WHAT IF I AM WAITING FOR FIVE WEEKS OR LONGER FOR A PART TO ARRIVE FROM ASIA, AND WHAT IF IT HAPPENS ON THE OPEN ROAD. AS I BEGAN CROSSING THE INTERSECTION (HIGHWAY) I ENDED UP GETTING T- BONED HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BY A PICKUP. HE WAS SPEEDING GOING ROUGHLY 60MPH IN A 45MPH ZONE MY KIA OPTIMA SUSTAINED PASSENGER SIDE/ AND FRONTAL IMPACT DAMAGE. THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT SENT ME SKIDDING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND NONE OF MY FRONTAL AIRBAGS ACTIVATED NOR DID THE SEATBELT LOCK UP. THIS LEAD ME TO SUSTAIN HEAVY CHEST INJURIES FROM THE IMPACT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO THE CAR COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE STAYED RUNNING UNTIL EMT DISCONNECTED THE POWER TO IT.

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE NAMED JOSE CAMACHO SAID THEY THEY WOULD COVER IT AS A WARRANT TIME AND THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THEY JUST NEEDED TO ORDER THE PART AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT ARRIVED. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL, SO WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2018 I WAS TOLD THAT THE CLAIM WAS DENIED AS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME. CAR STALLED FOR NO REASON WHILE SITTING IDLE AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN SAN DIEGO. THE FIRST DAY, THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. THE NEXT DAY, IT CLAIMED TO FIND A HOLE IN THE OIL PAN. IT REFUSED TO START THE CAR AGAIN UNTIL WE PAID $500 TO FIX IT. THERE WAS NO OIL IN ITS PARKING SPACE OR THE PLACE WHERE THAT IT STALLED. WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO FOUND THE HOLE. HE SAID THERE WAS MORE THAN SUFFICIENT OIL TO TURN IT OVER, AND IF THE HOLE HAS BEEN THERE LONG, ALL OF THE OIL WOULD HAVE LEAKED OUT. WE SUSPECT THE DEALER DID THIS INTENTIONALLY TO CREATE AN EXCUSE TO AVOID PAYING FOR A NEW ENGINE IF IT TURNED OUT TO HAVE METAL SHAVINGS AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE LIKE SO MANY OTHER OPTIMAS.
MY OPTIMA SEEMS TO HESITATE OR STUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. IT REMINDS ME OF A GEAR SLIPPING BUT MY CAR ONLY HAS 11,145 MI ON IT SO THERE'S NO WAY THAT'S POSSIBLE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY 2016 KIA OPTIMA SINCE I PURCHASED IT ON SEPTEMBER, 5TH 2016. A SHORT TIME AFTER OWNING MY NEW VEHICLE, FIRST THE CAR STARTED TO HESITATE WHEN STARTING AS IF IT WAS STRUGGLING TO START, THE PUSH BUTTON WOULD TURN RED AND THE INDICATOR LIGHTS WOULD LIGHT UP ON THE DASHBOARD AS IF THE KEY WAS NOT RECOGNIZED IN THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD ALSO SELF ACCELERATE. ON OR AROUND AUGUST 16TH OR 17TH THE CAR STALLED OUT WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN,WE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT TURNED ON LIKE NORMAL SO THE TOW WAS CANCELED. , THE SERVICE WRITER & KIA ALL HAVE COPIES OF THE VIDEOS THE MECHANIC HAS ALSO TOLD ME HE WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THE SOLUTION WAS TO CHANGE THE FUEL PUMP AND SERVICE THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM. UPON THE SERVICES BEING COMPLETED WE WERE CONTACTED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND KIA THAT THE CAR WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP ON SEPTEMBER 6TH 2017. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME WE NOTICED SOME HESITATION WHILE IDLE, ALSO SOME STRONG ACCELERATION WHEN TAKING OFF FROM RED-LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. WHILE PARKED WE NOTICED SOME STRONG VIBRATION FROM THE MOTOR WHICH THE CAR HAD NOT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEFORE SERVICE. ALSO AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF STARTING THE CAR, THE CAR WOULD EITHER START ROUGH, AND ALSO STILL HAD THE SAME ORIGINAL OCCURRENCE AS BEFORE WITH THE KEY NOT BEING RECOGNIZED IN THE CAR. WITH THE CAR NOT FULLY STARTING AND THE PUSH BUTTON TURNING RED WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING UP WITH THE KEY NOT IN CAR LIGHT ALONG WITH SOME OTHERS. ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2017 AT ABOUT 4:30PM I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 80 MPH, THE CAR HESITATED A COUPLE TIMES, THEN SELF DECELERATED TO 73 MPH, REACCELERATED TO 82 MPH THEN SELF ADJUSTED TO 80 MPH, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT AFTER THE OCCURRENCE I WAS TOLD I HAD TO WAIT TO BRING THE CAR BACK IN THEY HAD NO LOANER VEHICLES, NOT TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE.

SHUTTER/HESITATION UPON TAKE OFF. I SIGNED MY LEASE ON 9/29 AND WAS AT THE SERVICE DEPT FIRST OF 7 TIMES ON 10/4. AT 4200 MILES THE CAR STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. SCREEN FLASHED "ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - POSSIBLE ENGINE CONDITION. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT NEITHER ONE OF US WAS INJURED WITH THIS INCIDENT HOWEVER OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY.

TWO DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THEY PERFORMED AN INTERIM REPAIR AND THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART FOR A PERMANENT REPAIR. THE CONTACT FELT UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Optima, 2012-2017 Sorento and 2011-2018 Sportage vehicles that previously received an engine replacement under recall number 17V-224, warranty, or the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) Product Improvement Campaign. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, possibly causing a fuel leak.
