Parasitic drain after car left parked and locked for ~4 days. This has occurred since I purchased the car new in 2016. I have replaced the battery 4 times but it has not helped the issue. I am now forced to leave the car plugged in to a battery tender when parked.
The battery in my car continually dies. It all started about 2 years ago, we replaced the battery, but I have to charge it frequently. The car never dies while I’m driving it, but sometimes I will come to start my car and it won’t start. This happens about 1-2 times a month.
The Controller Area Network ("CAN") did not enter sleep mode when the car was turned off, resulting in a "parasitic battery drain." I replaced 3 batteries over a period of 24 months of ownership, and just paid $1355 to have the manufacturer-installed computer chip replaced to stop the battery drain and properly shut off the vehicle. This is a safety issue for several reasons - not knowing when my battery would be dead when the vehicle was needed, living in northern MN and having a dead battery in cold and potentially life-threatening conditions, and living in a rural area without ready access to businesses or others when support or a battery jump was needed.
The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that while driving and approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact released the brake pedal and the vehicle slowed down. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 110,858.
The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, there was a loud humming noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear wheel bearing failed but the contact was unaware which wheel needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but years later the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that both rear wheels bearings failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,050.
Car’s battery/ electrical system seems to drain car battery excessively. Even with a new battery, car battery dies if car isn’t run at least every 2 or 3 days, meaning I can’t rely on car if I take a trip of any length and leave the car behind. There’s a risk of being stranded. Car is 6 years old, and already has had 4 batteries. Im concerned about being stranded
November 8/21, temperature 41 F. Started the car and started to move and steering wheel was stiff. Steering warning light came on. Shut off and started car two more times and steering went back to normal and warning light went off. A code of C2532 was stored. This issue was identified as a problem as far back as 2016, but no recall has been issued. The part has been updated, supposedly, as the original had what they called a frozen relay. It is an obvious safety issue that was identified long before warranty expired. I realize your organization is for American's but our vehicles are the same and unfortunately we do not have a player with the clout that yours brings to these issues. The salt in the wound for us was the close to $1000 Cdn. bill for the updated part to be replaced. Close to $800 for the part alone! Thank you people.
The battery drains quickly compared to my husband's car. I had to get a new battery every other year. Subaru has known issues with the CAN system and it hasn't been addressed. This is dangerous as my car wouldn't start. I didn't feel safe. Other people have posted similar situtations online and those have to be corrected. I would rather not waste money on a battery every other year. My safety is more important of course. The electrical systems need to have a recall put in so this can be fixed without money coming out of my pocket as this is a wide-spread issue for subaru.
There was a short in the wiring harness, causing the car to loose power and stall.
In March 2020, I took my 2016 Subaru Forester to the dealership to fix the issues associated with the Subaru Safety Recall WUM-98 / NHTSA Recall 19V-701 (unstable electrical connections causing issues with the occupant detection system in determining the correct status of the right front seat occupant, which would prevent the front passenger-side airbag from deploying in the event of a crash). Service was performed and the ODS harness was replaced. In August of 2021, I took my Forester back into the Subaru dealership (where previous service was performed) because the “airbag warning” light and the “Passenger airbag off” indicator began to illuminate, however this occurred somewhat inconsistently. Sometimes both warning lights illuminate when someone sits in the front passenger seat, sometimes they do not illuminate at all and everything seems fine. Other times, the lights illuminate when no one is sitting in the front passenger seat. Additionally, sometimes the seatbelt alarm sounds when no one is sitting in the front passenger seat. However, this is also inconsistent. In August 2021, the Subaru dealership told me that the issue is likely caused by water damage (a spill) on the front passenger seat that has caused the sensors within the seat to malfunction. I told them that I did not recall spilling any liquids on the front passenger seat. Now the dealership is telling me to replace the passenger seat bottom assembly sensor for $1,211 USD.
When I stop the vehicle and put in park, I cannot not turn car off or pull out key. I put car back in drive and drive a few feet forward or back. After putting in park again, I can then turn car off and pull key out. It is now happening more frequently, like every time I drive it. Also sometimes have trouble turning the key to start the car. Have had problems periodically for several years. Now its getting to be a regular problem. Very dangerous when you cannot turn the car off. And it will probably get worse with snowy weather. A safety issue. I see there is a NHTSA Safety Bulletin #10155220 that lists this problem. It looks like an existing problem with Subarus. Not sure why there is no recall?
At least a couple of times a week, the key gets stuck in the ignition. I can turn the car off, but I can't remove the key. If I start the car back up and shift it into Drive, and then slam it back into Park, after several tries, I can remove the key. I searched the Subaru forum and found this is a long-existing issue for all Subaru models with the key ignition. All with the stuck key issue here is the TSB 16-112-18R info https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10153178-9999.pdf and the P/N for the select lever (shifter) mechanism 3511AL00C.
I was into hour 6 of a 7 hour drive. I had 2 bars left on the gas meter. I was on the highway driving about 70 MPH on a major interstate. Suddenly the car acted like it shifted into neutral (though I did not) and could not accelerate and all the lights on the dashboard lit up. Luckily I was in the left lane and could get to the side quickly, but the car essentially suddenly quit without any warning. If I were in the middle lane I fear I could have been in a terrible accident since I was decelerating quickly and have no idea if my brake lights or anything was working properly while this happened. No engine lights on the dash came on prior and the car was running just fine the entire trip up until that moment. After I pulled over I opened the hood and nothing seemed overtly wrong. I tried to start up car at least 3 times and when I did it acted like it was trying to do something and lights flashed on dashboard as it was trying to turn over, but I could not get it started again. Had it towed to a subaru dealership and they are telling me it started right up after sitting overnight there and they can't find anything wrong when they run diagnostics. I don't feel comfortable driving the vehicle again knowing this happened and could happen again without warning. It could have been in a terrible accident involving myself (and my kids) and other people on the highway.
Per Subaru's TSB 16-112-18R, it appears that my 2016 Subaru Forester XT is experiencing a failing Park-Range switch. Starting around July 26, 2021, I started having issues trying to take the key out while in Park. It started as intermittent but slowly has grown to where I having issues almost everyday now. Currently, there is not an official recall but there really should be given the number of folks I have read on internet forums having this occur from all makes, models, and years of Subaru vehicles. The unofficial workarounds present a safety hazard because the workaround disables the safety mechanism for the ignition key.
The ignition key has started getting stuck in the ignition after turning the motor off. It takes several tries, involving turning the motor back on and pulling the key out as I’m turning the motor off and pushing the stick back into PARK really hard per Subaru.... Subaru has acknowledged it’s a faulty part and lots of complaints online...they even did a tech bulletin # 16-112-18R but say its a customers problem....
While returning home from a trip in our 2016 Subaru Forester the driver’s side airbag warning light remained on; additionally, a SRS warning appeared briefly on the screen indicating that the airbag/seatbelt safety system could not be relied upon. This all occurred after restarting the Forester following a brief rest stop. Adhering to the Subaru owner’s manual guidance we went to our Hendricks Southpoint dealership. The dealership scheduled an appointment for one week later. The occurrence of this problem without a timely resolution by Subaru creates a unnecessary safety situation for owners.
Car turns itself off soon after starting when you try and put it into gear. Even after a tune up the car just stalls out when starting or low idle while sitting at light
Key stuck in switch when car is put into park. Steering locks up and then can not restart or remove key. This happens almost daily at this point
The battery drains quickly if the engine is not running and the key remains in the ignition even for a short period of time. From what I can tell even if you shut off the car completely, you cannot leave the key in the ignition or something is still drawing power. You must physically remove the key from the ignition. The issue stranded my family on two separate occasions requiring a jump start. Once was late at night in a secluded area, the other in a parking lot. We have two other cars from different makes and have not had this issue. In one case the car was off in a parking lot with my wife waiting for 15 minutes. In the other my daughter was listening to the radio while parked for less than 10 minutes. This Forester has the stock radio with no after market mods. The Forester drives great and feels very safe in all other respects. We truly love the car. But I have to make sure that we do not park the car and leave the key in the ignition or the battery will die. I asked my mechanic to check the battery, but he said that the battery itself tested fine. Seems like this problem has been reported elsewhere. Thanks
The oem battery in this vehicle has failed Multiple times (dozens of times), upon sitting for a few days. Nothing in the vehicle was On, it was just sitting. A couple of times it was towed to the dealership in Bozemanwhere I bought it (Gallatin Motors) for diagnosis and repairs (bad/dead battery). The battery was replaced Once per Subaru's policy. Then I was on my own for repeated, totally unexplained DEAD battery upon trying to start the car after a couple/ few days/ nothing left on. I finally bought my own new recommended Interstate Battery after repeated dead out non starts. I bought a Duracell battery maintainer/ conditioner to install in my garage, which I use when the vehicle sits for more than 2 or 3 days to be sure the darn battery will start the car. It's obvious to me there's a parasitic battery drain in this smart car, but no one from any dealership will acknowledge/ has any advice about this! This is discussed in multiple online forums. I love the car and it's smarts, but not turning Dead Off after I'm finished driving it - and draining the battery making it impossible to start again without a jump - is totally not acceptable for a "vehicle."
The battery drains when the car is turned off without anything electrical being on, possibly a parasitic battery. Have taken the car to dealership multiple time and they said the battery itself was fine.
The battery died on several occasions. I had to purchase a portable jump starter to keep in the vehicle for times that the vehicle would not start. I had the battery replaced by the dealer, but the same issue happened again. In the winter of 2020 I ended up purchasing an after market AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) battery for the vehicle.
Context: We were driving on the freeway at ~30-40mph when the car in front suddenly braked and stopped. We hit the breaks at the same time that the automatic brakes kicked in. The car stopped, as needed. Issue: After stopping, we pressed the accelerator to start the car moving again but the car revved instead of accelerating. We pulled off/slowly drifted to the side of the road and turned the car off and then back on before the accelerator started to function. This seemed like an engine problem. Safety risk: During this incident we were stopped on the freeway with no way to accelerate, which was very dangerous. We were lucky to be next to the shoulder lane. Otherwise, we would have been stuck in the middle of a freeway with a speed limit of 60mph. Inspection by Subaru result: "FOUND NORMAL OPERATION ON TEST DRIVE. NO CURRENT CODES OR RELATED HISTORY CODES. LIKELY A TEMPRARY FAULT UNDER EXTREME CONDITION. PLEASE MONITOR".
The contact owns a 2016 Subaru Forester. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an abnormal sound and noticed that the windshield had cracked. The contact stated that the crack expanded to approximately 12 inches. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Battery seems to drain for no reason very frequently.
Since my driving has cut down drastically since Nov 2019 right before the pandemic, I have been plagued with my battery draining quite quickly. This happens when the car is not driving regularly, sometimes within a week and a half. I have to put the battery on a tender as well. This even occurred after getting the battery replaced at Subaru, and the problem coming back nearly immediately.
BATTERY DRAIN REQUIRING MULTIPLE JUMP STARTS AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT
SUBARU ACCELERATES OCCAISIONALLY WHEN ONE HITS THE BREAK AND THE MOTOR RACES UNTIL ONE PUTS CAR IN NEUTRAL .
'SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY ACCELERATES USUALLY WHEN I BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO STOP THE RACING OF THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, 5,10,20, 60. IT IS SCARY AND I HAVE TO ALLOW EXTRA ROOM WHILE DRIVING.
MY FORESTER HAD AN ISSUE WHERE I COULD NOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION ONCE I WAS STOPPED AND IN PARK. I HAD TO REPEATEDLY TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF AND MOVE THE SHIFTER BACK INTO AND OUT OF GEAR TO GET THE KEY OUT. I HAD MY CAR REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT A COST OF $419. I FIRST HEARD ABOUT AN ISSUE LIKE THIS WHILE WAITING IN THE DEALERSHIP LOBBY LISTENING TO ANOTHER FORSTER OWNER WHO HAD THIS ISSUE. SINCE THEN OUR FRIEND AND OUR DAUGHTER HAVE ALSO HAD THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR SUBARU CROSSTREKS. THEREFORE, SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM, IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THEM ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT?
IN SPITE OF CAREFUL MAINTENANCE AND USE I HAVE HAD AT LEAST 7 INSTANCES WHERE THE BATTERY HAD DIED. IN 4 OF THOSE INSTANCES I WAS ABLE TO JUMP START THE CAR AND CONTINUE USING IT. IN 3 INSTANCES I WAS UNABLE TO JUMP START IT, SO I HAD TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE BATTERY 3 TIMES SINCE OWNING IT NEW IN LATE 2016. I HAVE LOST MY FEELING OF CONFIDENCE IN USING THE CAR OVERNIGHT IN REMOTE AREAS, SUCH AS WHEN CAMPING OR HIKING. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS TO CORRECT, SO I THINK IT IS A DESIGN FLAW.
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, OUR CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT 60 - 70 MPH. (2016 SUBARU FORESTER) THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2019 ON PA ROUTE 283. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17TH, 2021. IN BOTH CASES THE CAR ENGINE DIED WITHOUT WARNING AT SPEEDS OF BETWEEN 60 - 70 MPH. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. MY FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT I NEEDED GAS IN THE FIRST INCIDENT BUT I ESTIMATED THAT THE CAR HAD A LITTLE MORE THAN A GALLON REMAINING. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT, THE CAR HAD ABOUT A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS. I CONTACTED SABARU AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT BUT I'M NOT AWARE OF ANY ACTION THAT WAS TAKEN. I ALSO CONTACTED THEM AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT BUT HAVE NOT YET HEARD BACK YET. BSED ON MY RESEARCH, OTHER OWNERS OF SUBARU FORESTERS HAVE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. I'M SURPRISED QUITE FRANKLY THAT NO DEATHS HAVE BEEN REPORTED.
KEY OFTEN WILL NOT ROTATE TO THE LOCK POSITION SO THE KEY MAY BE REMOVED AFTER VEHICLE IIS STOPPED. THE TRANSMISSION IS SET FOR PARK AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS ALSO SET AT THE TIME. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY NOW AND HAS BEEN FOR OVER A MONTH. AT TIMES, I'VE BEEN SUCCESSFUL WHEN ROTATING THE KEY TO START AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT RESULTS ARE NOT CONSISTANT.
THE WINDSHIELD START DEVELOPING A CRACK AFTER THE WINTER STORM IN TEXAS AND SUDDENLY SPREAD TO THE TOP OF THE GLASS. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND IT MUST BE JUST THE COLD THAT TRIGGERED IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER . THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH HER NEIGHBOR GARAGE AND CRASHED INTO OTHER VEHICLES THAT WAS IN THE GARAGE, THE VEHICLE THEN EXITED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GARAGE AND CRASHED INTO A SNOWBLOWER, AND A TRACTOR TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE DID NOT SUSTAINED INJURIES BUT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE . THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
FORESTER ACCELERATES TOO FAST ON GOING FROM STOP TO MOVING TO NORMAL SPEED. THE CARS DOES NOT ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY. TOO MUCH POWER ON A LIGHT TOUCH TO SOFT ACIERATION. IF ON LIGHT SNOW IT SPINS THE WHEELS. GOING FROM IDLE ON A TURN IN SNOW IT SPINS THE TIRES. ALL ACTIONS ARE FROM A STOP OR NO ACCELERATION TO PLACING LIGHT PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR.FROM A STOP THE CARS JUMPS AHEAD WITH ACCERERATION.
UNIDENTIFIED PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS CAUSING THE SECOND BATTERY TO DRAIN IN MY SUBARU FORESTER. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED JANUARY 02, 2021 AFTER IT WENT DEAD ON THE PARKING LOT BUT I HAD TO JUMP START THE CAR THREE TIMES IN ONE MONTH AFTER THAT. SUBARU CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN CAN NOT IDENTIFY THE ISSUE. THE BATTERY CHECK SHOWS BATTERY IS FINE.
KEY STUCK IN IGNITION WHEN CAR IS IN PARK.
I WAS PREPARING TO PARK MY CAR ,IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE GIANT PARKING LOT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WAS ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED . UPON ACCELERATION, THE CAR HIT THE STEEL CONSTRUCTION UNIT THAT IS BUILT TO STORE THE CUSTOMER SHOPPING CARTS AND DRAGGED THIS FORWARD BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE SIDE OF A VEHICLE THAT WAS IN THE NEXT AISLE
THE KEY IS GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AFTER PARKING. THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES.
ON NOVEMBER 7, 2020 AROUND 630PM, I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREET GOING NW ON SUNSET IN FAIR OAKS, CA IN A FAR RIGHT LANE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 TO 40 MPH WITH ONE OTHER CARS INFRONT OR BESIDES ME. CERTAINLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I HEARD A LOUD BOOM. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE LOUD BOOM, I COULD NOT SEE AND REALIZED MY STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THEN I LOOKED TO MY RIGHT I SAW A DEER LIMPING. SO I IMMEDIATELY KNEW I JUST HIT A DEER FROM MY FRONT LEFT CORNER BUMPER AFTER I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE STREET. AFTER I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE STREET I NOTICE ALL AIRBAGS IN THE CAR DEPLOYED INCLUDING THE SEATS, DASHBOARD, ROOF AND SIDE AIRBAGS. I TOOK MY CAR TO GET ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT BASE ON THE DAMAGE OF THE VEHICLE HIT BY THE DEER, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE ENTIRE AIRBAGS IN THE CAR SHOULDN'T BE DEPLOYED. SO I COMAINT TO SUBARU. IT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. I BELIEVE HITTING THE DEER SHOULD HAVE NOT MADE THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOYED ESPECIALLY THE ENTIRE AIRBAGS SYSTEM. THE ESTIMATE CAME OUT TO BE OVER $15000 TO FIX. MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR.
I HAVE HAD APPROXIMATELY 10 EPISODES WHERE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE SEEMS LIKE IT'S NOT GETTING ANY OR VERY LITTLE GAS EVEN THOUGH THERE IS PLENTY OF GAS IN THE GAS TANK . THESE EPISODES ARE INTERMITTENT AND STARTED LAST WINTER. THE ISSUE DIDN'T OCCUR OVER THE SUMMER BUT STARTED AGAIN WHEN IT GOT COLD. THE LAST EPISODE WAS ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO ON THE HIGHWAY. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON QUICKLY AND LUCKILY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT . UNLIKE PAST EPISODES, THE ISSUE DIDN'T RESOLVE ITSELF QUICKLY, I HAD THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, BUT WAS ONLY ABLE TO DO A SLOW CRAWL. IT FINALLY ALLOWED ME TO GO AGAIN, BUT THEN ANOTHER EPISODE HAPPENED BEFORE I MADE IT TO MY EXIT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SLUGGISH SINCE THEN ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S COLD, BUT ANOTHER EPISODE HAS NOT HAPPENED AS OF YET. I TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU MECHANICS IN CUMBERLAND, MARYLAND LAST WINTER WHEN THE ISSUES FIRST STARTED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BAD GAS, AND WAS CHARGED $95 FOR IT. I HAVE USED DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, AND I'M SURE IT'S NOT BAD GAS SINCE THE ISSUE IS CONTINUING.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER.THE CONTACT STATES THAT HIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD ,THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS LIGHTS ON HIS VEHICLE ARE NOT PROPERLY WORKING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS FOR REPAIR AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING .THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE STOPS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION
THIS CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER WHEN UNDERWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR PREDICTABILITY. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF ENTERING TRAFFIC OR EVEN WHEN MOVING ON CONGESTED ROADS. NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AT ALL, THE CAR JUST DIES WITHOUT WARNING. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND HAS HAPPENED MONTHS AND EVEN YEARS APART. ALL ATTEMPTS BY THE SUBARU SERVICE TEAM HAVE FAILED TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND FIXING GUESSES AT TO WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG HAVE FAILED. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND HAVE COME TO FIND THAT THE FIRST OWNER RETURNED THIS AS A LEMON FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. NOW SUBARU OF AMERICA IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WON'T AGREE TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND GET IT OFF THE ROAD PERMANENTLY BEFORE SOMEONE DIES OR GETS KILLED AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT AND THE SERVICE PEOPLE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IT MUST NOT EXIST AND YET THREE DRIVERS IN MY FAMILY HAVE EXPERIENCED IT AND A PRIOR OWNER (I HAVE NO IDEA WHO THIS IS) RETURNED THE CAR WITH THE SAME INDEPENDENT EXPERIENCE. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. I AM SURE WHEN THIS CAR WAS FIRST RETURNED AS A LEMON THEY COULDN'T ISOLATE THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY COULDN'T RECREATE IT. I SUSPECT THAT THEY FIXED WHAT THEY 'THOUGHT' WAS THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT A TEST DRIVE OF EVEN A THOUSAND MILES MIGHT NOT REVEAL THE PROBLEM. THEY PUT IT BACK OUT THERE AS FIXED AND LIKE NEW. NOW THAT THE SAME PROBLEM HAS RECURRED IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE TO NOT TAKE THIS CAR BACK AS A TWO TIME LEMON AND DESTROY IT BEFORE A MAJOR ACCIDENT OCCURS.
VEHICLE STALLED IN INTERSECTION. CAR HAS A ROUGH IDLE, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS STALLED. DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT THE CAR BUT NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DEPRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE ANY INJURIES OR SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER GRAYSON HYUNDAI ( 8729 KINGSTON PIKE, KNOXVILLE, TN 37923; (865) 693-4550) AND HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AS OF YET. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000.
2016 SUBARU FORESTER 2.5 PREMIUM WHILE DRIVING THERE ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH WITH 80 MILES LEFT PER THE VEHICLE THE CAR 'STALLED' ACTING LIKE IT WENT TO NEUTRAL AND PROVIDED NO RESPONSE TO THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED. *BF CONSUMER STATED HAPPENED TWICE MORE WHILE DRIVING APPROX 70 MPH AND HAD TO PULL OVER, VEHICLE STARTED SHUTTING DOWN. HAVE LESS THEN 10,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT TODAY, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED LOCKED AND THE ERROR MESSAGE CAME ON. IT'S PARKED IN A SEMI-HEATED GARAGE AT HOME.
2ND OCCURRENCE NOW OF A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT 80MPH WITH NO WARNING (SEE NHTSA ID# 1131777). LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT HAD JUST COME ON A FEW MINUTES EARLIER...SAME AS LAST TIME. THANKFULLY HAD A SHOULDER TO COST ONTO AND LET THE VEHICLE SIT. TIRED TO TART A COUPLE TIMES, BUT WAS LIKE IT WAS FLOODED WITH FUEL. AFTER :45 MINUTES OF SITTING...IT RESET ITSELF AND STARTED AGAIN AND WE CONTINUED ON OUR JOURNEY. THIS TIME ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND CLEAR.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE
INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT TO RH DOOR AND FENDE. CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED, SEAT BELT TRIGGERED, NO OTHER AIRBAG SYSTEM ISSUES. AFTER REPAIR INCLUDING CURTAIN AIR BAG REPLACEMENT AND MODULE RESET AS WELL AS ALL SENSORS REPLACED, AIR BAG LIGHT STILL ON. ISSUE TRACED TO RH SEAT BACK AIR BAG. APPARENTLY WHILE IT WAS TRIGGERED BUT IT DID NOT DEPLOY. QUESTION IS THIS AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN UP WITH THE MANUFACTURER SINCE THE AIR BAG WAS TRIGGERED BUT DID NOT DEPLOY BUT NEVER THE LESS IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CANNOT TELL IF VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AS IT WAS PURCHASED AT AN AUCTION.
WHEN STOPPING/STOPPED IT WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE/SURGE FORWARD AND I NEED TO SLAM ON BRAKES
I TOOK MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER IN FOR SERVICE AND MENTIONED A STICKY IGNITION. I WAS TOLD THE SHIFTER PLATE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A REPAIR OF $600.00. THE CAR HAS 45,000 MILES. I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS WITH IT BEING A RELATIVELY LOW MILES CAR AND HE STATED THAT HE IS REPAIRING 3 OTHERS IN THE DEALERSHIP JUST TODAY. I ALSO READ THAT SUBARU REPLACED THE ASSEMBLY DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THEIR LAST ITERATION. I AM CONCERNED THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS ASSEMBLY AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER HAS TWICE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ENGINE STALL WHILE CRUISING AT APPROX. 70 MPH WHEN THE FUEL WAS LOW. IN BOTH CASES THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ON AND THE VEHICLE SHOWED FUEL IN THE TANK WITH FUEL RANGE OF 70-100 MILES. IN BOTH CASES ONCE THE CAR WAS STOPPED IT STARTED AGAIN AND RAN NORMALLY UNTIL AND AFTER REFUELING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONLY AT HIGH SPEED WHICH MAKES THE CONDITION ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT (@ 42,000 MI.) I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SUBARU DEALER WHO CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO EXPLANATION. OF COURSE THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE EXACT CIRCUMSTANCE OF THE POWER FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER EXAMINATION FROM THE SECOND INCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED YESTERDAY (@ 50,000 MI.). I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM BUT I HAVE SEEN OTHER POSTS THAT SUGGEST THAT MAY BE THE CAUSE.
WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK AFTER A TRIP, THE KEY BECOMES STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO BE TURNED OFF BUT THE KEY IS UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. CYCLING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND PLACING THE CAR BACK IN PARK MULTIPLE TIMES ALLOWS THE KEY TO EVENTUALLY BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. ONLINE SEARCH SHOWED MANY COMPLAINTS FROM THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED REGULARLY IN DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER. IT IS A LOCAL COMMUTE VEHICLE AND HAS LESS THAN 40000 MILES. IN NOV 2019, THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND OUT OF ALIGNMENT, FOUR TIRES WERE WORN OUT AND TWO BREAKS WERE OUT TOO. ALL FOUR TIRES AND TWO BREAKS WERE REPLACED. IN JUNE 2020, I REPORTED BAD SMELL TO THE SERVICE CENTER BUT NOTHING WAS FOUND. IN SEP 2020, BAD SMELL WAS NOTICED AGAIN. THE SERVICE CENTER FOUND OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE FRONT AND BACK. THE ENGINE WAS OPENED AND SOME PARTS WERE REPLACED. SERVICE CENTER ALSO FOUND THE CONDENSER WAS LEAKING AND REPLACED IT. IN LESS THAN A YEAR, THREE DEFECTS HAPPENED AND TWO WERE RARE BUT MAJOR DEFECTS. DURING THIS TIME, THE CAR WAS ONLY DRIVEN AROUND 2000 MILES. I REPORTED TO SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY JUST TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT.
MY 2016 FORESTER WILL ACCELERATES WITH NO WARNING .THE VERY FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I CANNOT REMEMBER EXACT DATE , I WOULD GUESS IT WAS AROUND OCT. OR NOV. OF 2015. I BOUGHT THE CAR MAY 2015. TO THE BEST OF MY RECOLLECTION, I WAS PARKING SPACE CAR AND AS I PUT THE CAR IN PARK THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD , BARELY MISSED HITTING THE FENCE IN FRONT OF ME. AT THAT TIME I BLAMED UGG BOOTS .NEVER WORE THEM AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME DO NOT REMEMBER WHEN BUT IT HAD TO BE SOMETIME AFTER MARCH 2017 BECAUSE I HAD WAS PURCHASED A PUPPY AND WENT TO PETCO AND I WAS IN THAT PARKING LOT WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND AS I PUT CAR IN IT JETTED BACKWARD WITH SUCH FORCE AND I HIT A CEMENT POLE THAT WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME . THE POLE WAS DESIGNATED FOR A HANDICAPPED SPACE .AND CAR . LUCKILY THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS THERE OR I COULD HAVE HURT OR KILLED THEM. NO DAMAGE TO CAR . I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPEN. I CHECKED MATS TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE NOT UNDER GAS BECAUSE I'VE HEARD THAT COULD HAPPEN BUT NO ALL WAS GOOD . GOING FORWARD JUST KEPT WATCH AND SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN CAUSE THEN I WOULD KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. ONE, TWO, THREE TIMES, NO DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH CAR. THE MOST RECENT SEPT. 8, 2020, I WAS ON SIDE STREET STOPPED AT LIGHT. TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE TO INCH UP TO MAKE TURN ALL OF SUDDEN CAR LUNGED FORWARD TO INTERSECTION I QUICKLY MADE TURN. LUCKILY AVOIDING ACCIDENT. WHEN I TOOK CAR IN TO BE CHECKED WAS TOLD BY REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP SHE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT'S USUALLY DUE TO HUMAN ERROR AND THEY'RE NOT AWARE OF ANY ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS. SHE THEN PRECEDED TO ASK IF I HAD AIR CONDITIONER ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I SAID I DON'T REMEMBER BUT I'M ASSUMING I DID. LEFT CAR TO BE CHECKED.R DEALERSHIP SAID THE MECHANIC DROVE CAR FOR 3 MILE , COULD NOT DUPLICATE MY COMPLAINT.
KEY DOES NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION WHEN CAR IS STOPPED, TRANSMISSION IS IN PARK AND FOOT BRAKE IS APPLIED.
IGNITION KEY GETS STUCK AND CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM CAR AFTER DRIVING AND THE CAR IS TURNED OFF
WHEN TURNING OFF THE CAR, THE KEY WILL NOT COMPLETELY TURN COUNTERCLOCKWISE BUT WILL GET STUCK AT ABOUT 2/3 OF THE WAY TOWARDS OFF (NEAR THE "ACC" POINT). CANNOT TAKE THE KEY OUT. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO RELEASE IS TO START THE ENGINE AGAIN. SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES ARE NEEDED. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE IS A NEED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE QUICKLY OR SECURE THE VEHICLE IN A PUBLIC PARKING AREA. LEAVING THE CAR WITH THE BATTERY ENGAGED AND THE KEY STUCK IS NOT AN OPTION. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY STOPPED, IN PARK, AND I AM READY TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR APPROXIMATELY A MONTH (STARTED IN AUG 2020) AND INITIALLY I THOUGHT I WAS NOT PUTTING IT IN PARK, OR THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TURNED OR SOME OTHER ISSUE I COULD CORRECT. SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT GO AWAY. UNFORTUNATELY IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND IS DISCONCERTING.
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION. CAN NOT BE REMOVED. ALL ELECTRICAL POWER STILL ON. THIS HAPPENED AFTER I PULLED MY SUV INTO A PARKING SPOT. PLACE IN PARK. TURNED OFF AND KEY WAS STUCK IN IGNITION. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME IN 2 WEEKS THIS HAS HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. POWER STEERING FAILED WITH NO WARNING. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND PARKED. WHEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF POWER STEERING LOCKING UP OR JUST NOT WORKING WITH NO PREVIOUS WARNING.
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE MOTOR SHUTS DOWN, BUT THE KEY WILL NOT TURN COMPLETELY TO THE REMOVAL LOCATION. I OFTEN HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND THEN QUICKLY OFF IN ORDER TO GET THE KEY TO REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION. SOMETIMES PUTTING THE VEHICLE BACK INTO GEAR (REVERSE OR DRIVE) BEFORE RETURNING THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK IS ALSO REQUIRED. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS MAY BE NECESSARY BEFORE SUCCESSFULLY REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THIS PROBLEM STARTED SUDDENLY IN THE LAST MONTH AND OCCURS AT LEAST 50% OF THE TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE IS USED.
KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION OR AUX POSITION AND WOULD NOT COME OVER AFTER SHIFTING THE LEVER TO PARK POSITION.
WHILE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT AND SMALL OBJECT (NOT A ROCK OR METAL) IMPACTED THE WINDSHIELD. WHICH CREATED A 3IN CRACK TOP OF WINDSHIELD (DRIVER SIDE). IN THE FOLLOWING 30 MINUTES, THE CRACK GREW TO OVER 10 INCHES.
YESTERDAY AM FOUND WINDSHIELD CRACK ON MY 2016 FORESTER. CAR HAD BEEN PARKED ALL NIGHT IN CLEAR WEATHER , AND NO DING OR CRACK WAS PRESENT DAY BEFORE. KNOWING THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED IN OTHER YEARS OF THIS AUTO, FELT IT NECESSARY TO REPORT. PHOTOS SHOW COMPLETE CRACK AND POSSIBLE PLACE OF ORIGIN WHERE WINDSHIELD MEETS BODY BY ROOF.
PLEASE RECALL THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER FOR FAILURE OF THE ACCELERATOR AT HIGH SPEEDS. OUR 21-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER, A NURSING STUDENT, TOOK HER 2016 FORESTER INTO GRAYSON SUBARU IN KNOXVILLE, TN FOR A RECALL SERVICE ON REAR COIL SPRINGS, OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. WITHIN AN HOUR OF LEAVING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SHE WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN HER "LOW FUEL" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ACCORDING TO THE SUBARU, THAT MEANS 2.6 GALLONS OF GAS REMAIN. ASSUMING 20 MPG, THAT MEANS SHE COULD DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 52 MILES BEFORE RUNNING OUT OF GAS. WITHIN A MINUTE OF THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMING ON, THE ACCELERATOR FAILED TO WORK AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH. WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, SHE HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER. VERY SHAKEN AND CRYING, SHE CALLED GRAYSON SUBARU AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK. AFTER STEVE KACHELRIE OF GRAYSON'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT ASSESSED THE CAR, HE CONCLUDED, "YOUR DAUGHTER JUST RAN OUT OF GAS. THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO OTHER THAN PUT GAS IN THE TANK." WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT THE GAS METER SAID SHE HAD 50 MILES OF DRIVING TO GO BEFORE EMPTY, HE DISMISSED IT AND REPEATED THAT SHE "JUST RAN OUT OF GAS." I RESEARCHED THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER ON NHTSA.GOV AND FOUND 20 REPORTS OF IDENTICAL INCIDENTS OF THE CAR SHOWING 50-70 MILES TO GO BEFORE EMPTY AND THE ACCELERATOR COMPLETELY FAILING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS LIGHTING UP. WHEN I TOLD GRAYSON SERVICE THAT WAS AN UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE, THEY REFERRED ME TO THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP, WALTER GRAYSON. HE AGREED TO FULFILL SUBARU'S GUARANTEE TO PAY US THE TRADE-IN VALUE OF THE CAR, $14,800. THE DEALERSHIP SENT US A CHECK FOR THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER AND WE PURCHASED A NEW TOYOTA.
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED SHORTLY AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH A TREE. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JS
THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AFTER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN AND CAR IS PARKED. THE FIRST TIME WAS SATURDAY,AUGUST 1. SINCE THEN, IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ABOUT ONCE EVERY OTHER DAY FOR FIVE DAYS. NOW IT IS HAPPENING AT LEAST ONCE EVERY DAY.
AFTER PARKED THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER, THE KEY WAS STUCK AND COULD NOT BE PULLED OUT OF THE KEY CYLINDER. IT HAPPENED EVERY OTHER DAYS.
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AROUND 70 MPH. LOST POWER TO WHEELS/VEHICLE STALLED WITH NO WARNING. ENGINE REVVED TO HIGH RPM'S WHEN I HIT GAS, AS I COASTED INTO THE GRASSY MEDIAN. I TURNED OFF ENGINE, WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES. TRIED TO START AGAIN, STARTER WOULD CRANK, BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT START. TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALER THEY WERE ABLE TO START CAR NEXT DAY. NO ERROR CODES IN COMPUTER. HAVE NOTICED THIS ISSUE ON THE SUBARU MESSAGE BOARDS, DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ISSUE NOW. VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM, COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY.
THE KEY OCASIONALLY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION SO THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE AND LOCK THE CAR. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER A MONTH BEFORE I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED.
THERE IS A LEAK IN THE HEAD GASKET WHICH RUINED A TEMPERATURE GAUGE ($700 TO REPLACE). THE MECHANICS SAY IT IS A DESIGN FLAW AND THERE IS NOTHING I COULD DO TO AVOID THE ISSUE AND IT WILL KEEP HAPPENING UNTIL I FIX THE LEAK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAMELBACK SUBARU LOCATED AT 1521 E CAMELBACK RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85014, (602) 680-2495 FOR THE 120,000 MILES VEHICLE INSPECTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE SAME DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,953.
IGNITION KEY WILL NOT DISENGAGE AFTER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF; VEHICLE HAS A CVT TRANSMISSION.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE PARKING. ALL LOW SPEED <5 MPH. CAR WAS IN DRIVE, BRAKING, MADE A HARD LEFT TURN THEN STOPPED. CAR WAS SHIFTED TO REVERSE, MOVED 25 FEET, BRAKE AND STOPPED. CAR WAS SHIFTED TO DRIVE (LOW), APPLIED ACCELERATION (LIGHT), HARD RIGHT TURN, BRAKE APPLIED, CAR ACCELERATED, JUMPED CURB, SHIFTED CAR TO PARK, TURNED OFF IGNITION. RESTARTED CAR, STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT ON, SHIFT WOULD NOT ENGAGE EVEN WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK COVER (SMALL BUTTON NEAR SHIFT) DEPRESSED RELEASE AND MOVE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND THEN REVERSE TO BACK OFF CURB. INCIDENT OVER, CAR FUNCTIONED AS DESIGNED AT THIS POINT. FLOOR MATS WERE NOT ANY WHERE NEAR PEDALS, MATS WERE IN THE RETAINERS TO HOLD POSITION. I AM SURE THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AT THE TIME THE ACCELERATION OCCURRED. IT REMAINED THERE EVEN AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF BECAUSE I LOOKED AT MY PASSENGER TO SEE IF SHE WAS OK AND THEN LOOKED AT THE POSITION OF MY FOOT, STILL ON BRAKE. THERE WERE NO CODES FLASHING. I BRAKE AND ACCELERATE WITH ONLY MY RIGHT FOOT. CHECKED TO SEE IF THIS IS A PROBLEM AND SAW SEVERAL REPORTS AND ISSUED THIS ONE. TAKING THIS TO MY DEALER WOULD BE A WASTE OF TIME, THEY ALWAYS FIND NOTHING BUT THE MONEY IN MY WALLET. THIS IS SUBARU NUMBER 6 FOR ME.
KEY IS STUCK IN IGNITION AFTER I COME TO A STOP AND PUT CAR IN PARK AND FIRMLY APPLY EMERGENCY BRAKE. I CAN SOMETIMES START THE CAR AGAIN, PUT IT IN PARK AND PULL THE BRAKE AND THE KEY WILL COME OUT. THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, 2016 FORESTER ENGINE REVVED WHILE ALSO LOSING POWER AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CAR STILL RUNNING, I SHUT THE CAR OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE ENGINE STARTED FINE BUT THE CAR STILL HAD NO POWER. WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP AND THEY STATED THE CAR RAN OUT OF GAS. THE CAR STATED THERE WERE 30 MILES LEFT TO DRIVE AND THE GAS LIGHT CAME ON 18 MILES PRIOR (AT 50 MILES ESTIMATED LEFT TO DRIVE) . THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED, I RAN OUT OF GAS WITH 50 MILES LEFT TO DRIVE AND ONLY 5 MILES AFTER THE GAS LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVEN'T LET THE CAR GET BELOW 1/4 TANK DUE TO THIS ISSUE. SOMETHING IS NOT READING RIGHT WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE MANUAL SAYS THERE SHOULD BE ROUGHLY 2 GALLONS LEFT IN THE CAR WHEN THE GAS LIGHT COMES ON SO I SHOULD BE ABLE TO AT LEAST GO 40 MILES AT THE BARE MINIMUM. *TR
IN 2016 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IT STARTED TO SLEET. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I TURNED ON MY HEATER AND DEFROST AND THE WINDOW POPPED AND CRACKED FROM THE HEATING VENT TO ABOUT 1/2 UP THE WINDOW. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS THE CRACK CONTINUED TO GROW. *TR
I HAD DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT THE SHOP FOR A RECALL. ON THE DRIVE HOME, WHEN I WAS ABOUT 6 MILES FROM THE SHOP, I STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. SUDDENLY MY FRONT WINDOW CRACKED FROM RIGHT ABOVE THE REARVIEW MIRROR DOWN THE CENTER OF THE WINDOW AND THEN OVER TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I'VE ATTACHED A PHOTO OF THE CRACK. THE SHOP REVIEWED THEIR VIDEO OF THE WORK ON THE CAR AND SAID THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING THAT HAD STRUCK THE WINDOW. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY AND I HAD JUST TURNED MY AIR CONDITIONING UP ALL THE WAY RIGHT BEFORE THE WINDOW CRACKED. THE STREET I WAS ON WAS A 4-LANE COUNTY ROAD. *TR
KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. THIS STARTED ABOUT 4 MOS AGO. PARK CAR, TURN OFF, BUT KEY WON'T RELEASE AND COME OUT. HAVE TO SOMETIMES RESTART CAR, REVERSE, SLAM INTO PARK. USED TO HEAR A "CLICK" OR LIKE SOMETHING "LOCKED IN", BUT NO LONGER. IT'S GETTING WORSE; CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND COSTS SEEMS TO BE 500-600 REPAIR. *TR
THE KEY HAS STARTED GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION INTERMITTENTLY AFTER TURNING THE MOTOR OFF. SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS INVOLVING TURNING THE MOTOR BACK ON AND PULLING THE KEY OUT AS I'M TURNING THE MOTOR OFF. IT MAY GO A COUPLE OF DAYS AND BE FINE THEN DO IT SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. *TR
MY FORESTER ACCELERATES WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. THERE HAVE BEEN INSTANCES WHEN I STOP AT LIGHT AND ADVANCE IT SOMETIMES ACCELERATES MORE THAN I HAVE PRESSED ON GAS. *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY, CAUSING CAR TO CRASH INTO GUARDRAIL ON MEDIAN, CAUSING EXTENSIVE BENT FRAME OF CAR AND EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE, CAUSING CAR TO BE DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS, AND CAUSING NERVE DAMAGE IN THE NECK OF DRIVER.
WHEN I PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK I CANT REMOVE MY KEY WITHOUT TURNING IT ON AND BACK OFF A COUPLE TIMES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A MONTH NOW SINCE IF OWNED IT.
SUBARU DEALER CHANGED TWO REAR COILS ON MY 2016 FORESTER, WITH 37K MILES, 2/20/2020. ON 2/26/2020 A LOUD BANGING NOISE AT REAR OF VEHICLE. NOTICED OIL SPOTS ON MY DRIVEWAY, AT REAR OF VEHICLE. ON 3/2/20, 11 DAYS AFTER THE COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED, I BROUGHT CAR BACK TO DEALER ASKING THEM TO CHECK MY WORK. WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT STORE THE CAR AND I WOULD HAVE TO RERUN THE NEXT DAY. WORK COMMITMENTS MADE THIS IMPOSSIBLE. THE NEXT TWO DAYS, ON DRIVING TO THE TRAIN, THE BANGING BECAME EXTREMELY LOUD AND I LEFT IT AT A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT BOTH REAR STRUTS WERE LEAKING. IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT BOTH REAR STRUTS WOULD LEAK 11 DAYS AFTER THE COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED. THE ASSUMPTION IS THAT THOSE BAD COIL SPRINGS, WHICH WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER, , CAUSED EXTRA STRESS TO THOSE TWO REAR STRUTS, ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 37K MILES, CAUSING BOTH TO FAIL. SHOCKS STRUTS USUALLY NEVER FAIL IN PAIRS. THE VEHICLES IS USED LOCALLY, WITH NO HEAVY OBJECTS IN THE REAR. DEALER SHOULD COMPENSATE THIS OWNER.
SMALL CHIP IN WINDSHIELD ON HIGHWAY TURNED INTO LARGE CRACK REQUIRING WHOLE WINDSHIELD TO BE REPLACED AND VISION SYSTEM RECALIBRATED.
SMALL CHIP IN WINDSHIELD ON HIGHWAY TURNED INTO LARGE CRACK REQUIRING WHOLE WINDSHIELD TO BE REPLACED AND VISION SYSTEM RECALIBRATED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD SINCE PURCHASING IT IN 2016
WINDSHIELD CRACKED OVER NIGHT. DID SEE SMALL ROCK IMPACT BUT WEIRD WINDSHIELD CRACKED ALL THE WAY UP OVER NIGHT.
RUNNING IN MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER AT 70 MPH ON CROWDED INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN TEXAS AND ALL POWER WAS LOST. NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOTHING...JUST LOST ALL POWER AND SHOT OFF WHILE DRIVING. . CAR ROLLED TO A STOP AND THEN I HAD IT TOWED. RESTARTED AFTER A WHILE AND DROVE FINE. SAW A LOT OF COMMENTS ONLINE FOR A CURRENT SUBARU RECALL THAT HAS EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, BUT FOR THE 2019 YEAR FORESTER. SUBARU RECALL ITEM: WUW-08 AND ALSO NOTES AS RECALL #: 19V856000 - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV). DEALER DOEN'T WANT TO TOUCH IT SR INCE IT'S A DIFFERENT MODEL YEAR. COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS.
AROUND 75K MILES, THE "AT TEMP" LIGHT BEGAN TO APPEAR WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 35-40 MINUTES ON THE HIGHWAY AT CONTINUOUS SPEEDS. NO CODE WAS STORED WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE PICTURES OF THIS LIGHT BEING ON NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN MAY 2019-AUGUST 2019 THEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, WITH OCCASIONAL STALLS/SHUTDOWNS. NO LIGHTS WOULD COME OUT DURING SHUDDER OR STALL. THIS HAPPENED BETWEEN MAY 2019-FEBRUARY 2020 AT 98K, VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND SHUDDER DURING SHIFTING, AROUND 2500RPM UPON ACCELERATION. I HAD A TRANSMISSION SERVICE/ CVT FLUID CHANGE DONE AT 90K AT JOHNSTON'S SUBARU IN MIDDLETOWN, NY. TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS DONE 2/3/2020
THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF A FAULTY "OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM". THE INDICATOR WOULD CHANGE FROM ON TO OFF RANDOMLY. THEN THERE WAS AN OFFICIAL RECALL, BUT NO FIX WAS AVAILABLE AND THEY INSTRUCTED TO WAIT UNTIL THE DEALERS CONTACTED US. A COUPLE OF MONTHS, TIRED OF WAITING TO BE ABLE TO USE THE FRONT SEAT OF THE CAR, I CALLED SUBARU OF AMERICA. THEY TOLD ME THE REPLACEMENT WAS AVAILABLE. DEALER HAD TO GET PARTS AND INSTALLED IT. IT SEEMS NOW IT STILL DOES NOT WORK UNDER OUR TYPICAL USE CASE. WE FOUND OUT WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE CAUSE. A DIFFERENT OCCUPANCY DETECTION SENSOR IN THE REPLACEMENT WORKS USING AN "ELECTROSTATIC" METHOD. MY WIFE WAS USING A STANDARD RELATIVELY THIN SEAT CUSHION THAT APPARENTLY PREVENTS THE NEW SENSOR FROM WORKING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT LIABILITY TO AUTOMOBILE PASSENGERS WHO DRIVE IN CARS EQUIPPED WITH SUCH EQUIPMENT. NOWHERE IN THE MANUAL (OR THE RECALL PAPERWORKS) IS THERE A NOTE TO NOT USE A SEAT CUSHION OF ANY KIND. IT ALSO WOULD NOT BE INTUITIVE TO THINK THIS WOULD BE A HAZARD FROM A PASSENGERS PERSPECTIVE. YOU COULD HAVE AN IMPALE SETTING ON THE CAR THAT JUST ENDS IT FOR YOU (FOR THOSE NO HELMET BIKERS). IT WOULD SIMILARLY BE DEEMED ACCEPTABLE, SO LONG AS THERE IS AN INDICATOR LIGHT THAT SAYS "IMPALER ACTIVE" FOR PEOPLE GET TO IMPALED BY THE VEHICLE WHEN THE AI SYSTEM GATHERS THEIR PREFERENCE IS DNR IN AN ACCIDENT VIA THEIR MUSIC SELECTION. MANY PEOPLE WOULDNT THINK TO LOOK AT THE AIRBAG ON OR OFF LIGHT. ALSO YOU CAN USE A SEAT CUSHION ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WITHOUT ANY ISSUE WHICH FURTHER CONFUSES THINGS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN TERMS OF HAVING ANY IDEA THAT A CUSHION IS ENDANGERING THEM. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO PROTECT CHILDREN, BUT WHO PUTS THEIR KIDS OR BABY SEATS IN THE FRONT SEAT THESE DAYS? THERE SHOULD BE A WAY TO TURN THE BAG ON OR OFF, OR AT LEAST ON SO THAT YOU CAN OVERRIDE A FAULTY SENSOR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED ACROSS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTOBARN SUBARU OF COUNTRYSIDE (6191 JOLIET RD, COUNTRYSIDE, IL 60525) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
ON 2/18/2020 A SPONTANEOUS WINDSHIELD BREAKAGE EVENT OCCURED ON MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER WHILE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT ON A CITY STREET. A CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE POINT OF ORIGIN WAS THE EMBEDDED WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE DE-ICER ELEMENT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. A HORIZONTAL CRACK THEN SPREAD FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD TRANSVERSING THE AREA DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DE-ICER HEATING ELEMENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 2/19/2020 WHERE THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSESSED THE WINDSHIELD, DETERMINING THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY IMPACT MARKS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPONTANEOUS WINDSHIELD BREAKAGE. HE TOOK PICTURES, COMPLETED AN ORDER ON RECORD AND FILED A REPORT WITH THE REGIONAL SUBARU OFFICE. CLAIM #TL1-53388627724. ON 2/21/2020 THE REGIONAL SUBARU OFFICE DENIED A CLAIM TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD AND PERFORM THE NECESSARY RECALIBRATION OF THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM BECAUSE THE WINDSHIELD IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF THREE YEARS. MY CAR IS THREE YEARS AND TEN MONTHS OLD. MILEAGE WAS 31,122 ON 2/18/2020.
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2016 FORESTER SUBARU CRACKED FROM THE PASSENGER BOTTOM SEAM THEN UP & ACROSS TOWARDS THE DRIVERS SIDE. IT HAS SO FAR STOPPED NEAR THE CENTER. I BELIEVE I HAVE A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD. THE PASSENGER SAW IT BUT SAID SHE DIDNT SEE IT THE DAY BEFORE. IT WAS SEEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET. I WILL CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY TOMORROW 2/24/2020 BUT I HAVE A HIGH DEDUCTIBLE SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY IN LAS VEGAS WITH NOTHING OVERHEAD. CAME OUT TO GO TO THE STORE AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED ON DRIVER'S SIDE. HAD DRIVEN THE CAR EARLIER IN THE DAY AND THIS CRACK WAS NOT THERE. JUST READ ABOUT THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND WONDER IF MY 2016 WITH EYESIGHT IS POSSIBLY IN THE SAME SITUATION.
CAR SUFFERED 10 UNEXPLAINED ORIGINAL BATTERY DISCHARGES IN YEARS 2-3 OF OWNERSHIP. UPON JUMP START, AUTO WOULD START AND OPERATE NORMALLY FOR 2-5 MONTHS BEFORE NEXT DISCHARGE. SUBARU AUTHORIZED WARRANTY REPLACEMENT THROUGH DEALERSHIP WITH NEW LARGER POWERED BATTERY AT END OF YEAR 3 OF OWNERSHIP. REPAIR STATED FAILURE DUE TO BATTERY LEAKAGE ALTHOUGH NONE WAS OBSERVED BY OWNERS. 13 MONTHS AFTER REPLACEMENT BATTERY WAS INSTALLED, IT DISCHARGED TWICE IN SAME DAY AND WAS TAKEN TO ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP (SUBARU OF PORTLAND). SERVICE TECHNICIAN CHECK DETERMINED BATTERY COULD NOT BE RECHARGED, COULD NOT DETERMINE REASON FOR ITS FAILURE, COULD NOT FIND ANY ELECTRICAL PARASITIC DRAWS AND FOUND ALL SOFTWARE WAS UP TO DATE. OWNER WAS CHARGED FOR NEW BATTERY AND INSTALLATION AS FAILED BATTERY WAS NOW OUT OF 1-YEAR SUBARU REPLACEMENT POLICY. BRIEF INTERNET REVIEW SHOWS THIS HAS BECOME A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2016-2017 SUBARU'S. SUBARU U.S. CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT DEMONSTRATED NO INTEREST IN TAKING COMPLAINT OR LOGGING IN ANY DETAIL INFORMATION, DIRECTING OWNER BACK TO REPAIRING DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAILED BATTERIES.
THE EYESIGHT HAS TURNED OFF SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY AND WON'T TURN BACK ON UNTIL I STOP AND RESTART CAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 3.5 YEARS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THERE WAS NO SUNLIGHT AND VERY LIGHT MIST THIS LAST TIME. THERE WAS NOTHING BLOCKING THE EYESIGHT CAMERA AT ALL. THIS IS NOT THE SAFETY FEATURE THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR.
THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AND IN "PARK," INTERMITTENTLY. I NEED TO RESTART THE CAR, READJUST THE SHIFTER OUT AND THEN BACK INTO "PARK," UNTIL THE VEHICLE SENSES THAT I AM ACTUALLY IN "PARK" AND ALLOWS ME TO REMOVE THE KEY.

WHEN DRIVING WITH NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND SOMETIMES WHEN THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE SEAT I GET AN SRS AIRBAG FAULT BUT IT NEVER STAYS ON AFTER I SHUT DOWN THE SUV. SOMETIMES WHEN I RESTART THE SUV AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES IT WILL COME BACK ON AND IT STAYS ON UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE SUV. THEN NOTHING FOR WEEKS. I'VE WANTED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BUT EVERY TIME I START TO HEAD OVER TO THEN THE FAULT GOES OUT OR NEVER COMES ON? I'M SURE IF I JUST HEAD OVER I'M JUST WASTING MY TIME. THE LAST TWO MONTHS IT'S BEEN MUCH MORE ACTIVE WITH THE FAULT HAPPENING. I'M LISTING THE LAST TIME IT HAS HAPPEN AS 01/10/2020. I KEEP NOTHING ON THE PASSENGERS SEAT AND I AM UNSURE IF THE AIR BAG LIGHT (YELLOW LIGHT ON THE DASH) SHOWS THAT IT IS ON OR OFF WHEN IT COMES ON. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT (6' 225 LBS) AND THE SRS FAULT COME ON AND THE YELLOW AIRBAG LIGHT SHOWED IT WAS STILL ON. I HAVE A TRIP TO PITTSBURGH PA FROM ALLENTOWN PA AND I'M WORRIED THAT IF I'M IN AN ACCIDENT THEY WON'T GO OFF AND PROTECT US. THIS CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTED AND I HAVE ABOUT 44K ON THE VEHICLE. PURCHASED IT NEW FEB 12 2016 STEVE MOYER SUBARU
WHEN I WENT FOR MY INSPECTION STICKER,IT FAILED DUE TO A BROKEN RIGHT REAR SPRING,THEN WENT I BROUGHT IT TO BE REPAIRED I FOUND OUT THE LEFT SIDE WAS ALSO BROKEN.

RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE ABOUT SEAT SENSOR AND AIRBAG DEFECT. NEED TO,GET,THIS REPAIRED AS A RECALL, BUT PARTS SUPPOSEDLY NOT YET AVAILABLE. ERROR MESSAGES SINCE AUGUST WHEN DEALER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS AN AIR BAG ISSUE.
VEHICLE FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS ABOUT TO STALL. THIS OCCURS SPORADICALLY WHEN STOPPING OR WHEN UNDER ACCELERATION ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS, NEITHER COULD DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. HOWEVER ONE DID SUGGEST IT MAY BE A PCV VALVE. THIS APPEARS QUITE SIMILAR TO THE RECENT RECALL (19V856) WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS MODEL YEAR.
MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND HAD NOT BEEN STARTED FOR ONE DAY. THE BATTERY WOULD NOT START THE CAR, I HAD TO CALL FOR A JUMP. I WAITED APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR FOR SOMEONE TO COME THROUGH SUBARU ROAD SIDE ASSIST. THE BATTERY WAS RELATIVELY NEW, AS THE ORIGINAL WAS REPLACED 1/2019. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TESTED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR, WHICH WERE FINE. THEY RECHARGED THE BATTERY. I PAID FOR THE BATTERY INSPECTION.
WEAK OR THIN WINDSHIELD THAT CHIPS/CRACKS EASILY CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES AT NIGHT/RAIN/SNOW ETC.
WINDSHIELD RANDOMLY CRACKED
NOTICED A CRACK IN MY FRONT WINDSHIELD ONE MORNING WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR AND BY THE END OF THE DAY THE CRACK HAD MOVED INTO MY LINE OF VISION AND WOULD HAVE IMPAIRED MY DRIVING, IF I WOULD HAVE NOT FIXED IMMEDIATELY I HAD IT IMMEDIATELY FIXED BY SAFELIGHT, WHICH COST $452.03
FOR THE PAST MONTH, MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WILL INDICATE IT IS "OFF" INTERMITTENTLY WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT, AND THE CAR'S IGNITION IS TURNED ON AND DRIVING. I BROUGHT MY SUBARU TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE OF OVER $1,500 IN REPAIRS DUE TO THE NEED TO REPLACE THE SEAT. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT UNLESS THE LIGHT IS ON CONTINUOUSLY. AT THAT POINT, HE SAID TO CONTACT THE SUBARU CORPORATION AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND TO FILE A CLAIM. AS OF YESTERDAY (10/26/19) MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT IS "OFF"CONTINUOUSLY WITH A PASSENGER RIDING IN THE SEAT. THE RED AIRBAG ICON IS LIT UP WHEN THE CAR'S IGNITION IS TURNED ON AND WHILE DRIVING. ON THE DASHBOARD IT INDICATES THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG IS "OFF". I HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM STARLINK STATING TO TAKE IT TO A SUBARU RETAILER TO HAVE IT CHECKED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SINCE I HAVE ALREADY DONE THIS, I WILL BE CONTACTING SUBARU TOMORROW. AFTER RESEARCHING, I SAW THAT THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION OPEN TO THIS PROBLEM AND WANTED TO ADD MY NAME TO THIS LIST.
HAVING TROUBLE GETTING KEY OUT OF IGNITION. WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN "PARK", I CANNOT TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY TO THE "LOCK" POSITION SO IT CAN BE REMOVED. INSTEAD, THE KEY WILL STOP AT THE "ACC" POSITION, WHICH PREVENTS ME FROM TURNING THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF. EVEN WITH CONTINUALLY MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT BACK TO "NEUTRAL" THEN INTO "PARK", AS WELL AS TURNING THE KEY TO "ON" AND BACK, IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES FOR THE KEY TO RECEIVE THE SIGNAL THAT ALLOWS ME TO TURN IT TO "LOCK" SO I CAN REMOVE IT FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THIS STARTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, AND NOW HAPPENS MOST TIMES WHEN I PARK THE VEHICLE.
UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION AFTER CAR IS TURNED OFF. REQUIRES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF JIGGLING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER TO FINALLY FREE THE KEY. VEHICLE IS OFF AND NOT MOVING WHEN THIS OCCURS. A QUICK BIT OF RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING ON ALL SUBARU MODELS NOT JUST THE FORESTER. SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN 16-112-18R ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. ONLY 40K MILES MY VEHICLE, OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIR IS OVER 500 DOLLARS. I DON'T SEE HOW THIS IS NOT A RECALL IF IT HAPPENING ON ALL SUBARU MODELS, AN OBVIOUS DEFECT HERE.
I TURNED MY VEHICLE ON IN THE MORNING AND A RED 'I' APPEARED AND A WARNING THAT SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CHECKED. THE PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD HAS AN AIRBAG LIGHT BLINKING. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO SAY 'OFF' DESPITE THERE BEING WEIGHT IN THE SEAT. THERE HAS BEEN NO DAMAGE TO THE SEAT INCLUDING MOISTURE OR ANYTHING TO DAMAGE THE SEAT. HAPPENED COMPLETELY AT RANDOM.
WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY TO PERFORM BRAKE PAD MAINTENANCE, I NOTICED THAT THE SPRING ON THE REAR LEFT SHOCK WAS BROKEN AT THE BOTTOM. VEHICLE HAS 42660 MILES ON IT.
ON OCTOBER 2ND 2019 I WAS TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESS WAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. DAMAGES TO MY CAR WERE SO BAD THAT THE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT DEEMED IT AS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY SMASHED IN. NEITHER OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT SUBARUS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE SO THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. I'M NOT SURE WHERE TO GO FROM HERE ABOUT THIS BUT IT IS SCARY THAT THIS HAPPENED.*DT*JB
WHEN I START THE CAR, THIS INDICATOR TURNS ON: SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED PASSENGER AIRBAG REMAINS "OFF" EVEN PERSON SITS ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS STOPPED OR MOVING WHILE THE CAR IS STARTED.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REGISTERS OFF WHEN PASSENGER IN SEAT. SUBARU DEALER FOUND CODES B1650, OCCUPANT DETECTION, AND CODE B1760, SENSOR MAT ABNORMAL. DETERMINED THAT SEAT BOTTOM WITH SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. 10/2/19 QUOTE TO REPLACE AIRBAG WAS $1168.00. IS THIS ISSUE COVERED UNDER RECALL?
THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS OFF WHILE A 130 LBS. PASSENGER IS RIDING IN THAT SEAT. ADJUSTING THE SEAT FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHILE TRAVELING TURNS THE SENSOR BACK ON (INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS ON), BUT AS OF TODAY, 4-5 MINUTES LATER IT WOULD TURN OFF AGAIN...OCCURING 5 TIMES IN 35 MINUTES. I FEAR THAT IF WE ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG TO PROTECT MY WIFE AS A PASSENGER MAY FAIL TO DEPLOY.
FRONT SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AND WON'T GO OFF. CODE SAYS THAT THE SEAT SENSOR IS NOT WORKING AND AIRBAG STAYS OFF. MOVING, STATIONARY AND CODE WILL NOT RESET
CVT CODES P0700 AND P2764 CAME ON. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION AS FIXING JUST THE TORQUE CONVERTER WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE. ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND NONE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES WILL WORK. THE CAR WAS DOING THIS FROM A STARTING POINT AND STAYED ON NO MATTER SPEED. SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CVT...$7,731.00 TO REPLACE
PASSANGER AIRBAG IS OFF NO MATTER IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND WILL NOT TURN BACK ON. THIS HAPPENS IF IT IS SITTING STILL OR MOVING SO NOT SAFE FOR PASSANGERS
PASSENGER AIR BAG DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHT READS "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" REGARDLESS OF A PASSENGER BEING IN THE SEAT OR NOT. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM SHUTS OFF WITHOUT CAUSE.
UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK AND THE CAR IS STATIONARY. PER TSP 16 112 18R THE CAUSE IS CONTAMINATION OF THE PARK-RANGE SWITCH INTERNAL COMPONENTS. WE OWN 2 IDENTICAL CARS PURCHASED THE SAME DAY. BOTH HAVE STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THIS EVERY DAY SINCE WE HIT 30,000 MILES. WE PURCHASED IN APRIL 2016, SO WARRANTY NO LONGER COVERS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS (MAYBE THOUSANDS) OF POSTINGS ON MANY FORUMS INDICATING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN US HAVING TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE CAR WHEN WE PARK SOMEWHERE. IT TAKES AROUND 3-4 MINUTES TO START AND RESTART THE CAR AND MOVE IT BACK AND FORTH IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE KEY. THIS IS NOT THE SITUATION THAT OCCURS WHEN YOU JUST NEED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.

WHILE DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROAD WITH NO VEHICLES ANYWHERE AROUND OR ANY ROAD DEBRIS HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE WINDSHIELD GLASS IMPACT. SAW NO DAMAGE. NO CRACK APPEARED. 4 HOURS LATER HAD 12 INCH CRACK FROM BOTTOM LEFT BASE OF WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS NO IMPACT AS NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS AROUND ME WHEN THIS OCCURRED. WEATHER WAS A SUNNY 75 AT THE TIME. BAD GLASS? VEHICLE HAS EYESIGHT. IN MOTION AT 50 MPH, GOING STRAIGHT ON COUNTRY 2 LANE ROAD. BEGINNING OF FRACTURE IS TOO LOW TO HAVE BEEN AN IMPACT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE INDICATOR DID NOT APPEAR. TOOK SUBURU IN FOR 30,000 MILE CHECK A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. TOLD DEALERSHIP THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS INACTIVATED (CAUTION LIGHT ON) WHILE MY WIFE SAT IN THE SEAT. DEALER SAID "IT PROBABLY GOT WET". I TOLD DEALER REP WE ALWAYS GARAGE OUR CARS AND WE HAVEN'T SPILLED ANYTHING ON THE SEAT. THEY TOLD US IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO FIX IT. AS WE LEFT THEY SAID THE CAUTION LIGHT WENT OUT, BUT IT WAS ON AGAIN BEFORE WE GOT HOME (ABOUT 40 MILES). AT THIS TIME THE CAUTION LIGHT STAYS ON ALMOST CONTINUALLY. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY/RECALL ISSUE TO ME.
AIRBAG SENSOR FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS DEFECTIVE. SRS WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON MOST OF THE TIME THAT THE CAR IS RUNNING. LIGHTS INDICATE AIRBAG IS OFF EVEN WITH PASSENGER IN SEAT. DEALER HAS CHECKED COMPUTER; TOLD ME THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SENSOR, USUALLY WITH WATER. SEAT HAS NEVER BEEN WET NOR HAVE WE DONE ANYTHING THAT COULD DAMAGE THE SENSOR. GOOGLE SEARCH BRINGS UP NUMEROUS CASES OF SAME ISSUE, INDICATING A POSSIBLE WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. I AM ADVOCATING FOR A RECALL TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO #1 COCHRAN SUBARU BUTLER COUNTY (4520 WILLIAM PENN HWY, MONROEVILLE, PA 15146, (412) 245-4580), BUT COULD NOT BE SERVICED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I WAS PARKING THE CAR IN A CVS PARKING LOT ON SUNRISE BLVD FT. LAUDERDALE. I MADE A RIGHT TURN INTO THE LOT AND ANOTHER RIGHT TURN INTO THE SPACE ON THE RIGHT. IT WAS A LARGE SPACE AND THE ROW OF PARKING SLOTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY SO I WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR INTO ONE OF THOSE. I MADE THE TURN INTO THE SPACE, DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY MADE A LOUD NOISE AND SHOT FORWARD. I HAD DONE NOTHING TO CAUSE THIS. THE CAR RAN OVER THE CURB AND INTO A CLUSTER OF SHRUBBERY - ABOUT 7 FEET WIDE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP INSIDE THE SHRUBBERY BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL GOING. IT WAS THE SHRUBBERY THAT STOPPED THE CAR. 08/ I WAS NOT INJURED AT ALL. I TRIED TO BACK UP THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT BACK UP. ANOTHER DRIVER WHO SAW THE INCIDENT CAME OVER TO SEE IF I WAS OKAY AND HELPED ME OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE SINCE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS JAMMED UP AGAINST THE SHRUBBERY. HE COULD NOT BACK UP THE CAR EITHER AND INSTEAD DRIVE THE CAR FORWARD THROUGH THE SHRUBS AND CAME AROUND BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT. WE CALLED AAA AND I WAITED FOR THEM.
INTERMITTENT DASH LIGHT SAYING THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF WITH PASSENGER IN THE SEAT AND WHEN CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. COMES ON IN CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING BOTH..

THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A COST ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE AIRBAG WILL TURN OFF EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I AM TRIED TO CONTACT MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST FEW DAYS WITH NO CALL BACK.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE EARLY 2016, CURRENTLY UNDER 40K MILES. THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING SUDDENLY CAME ON STATING THE SRS SYSTEM NEEDS CHECKED. THE WARNING COMES AND DISAPPEARS SPORADICALLY. I TRIED WIGGLING AND TIGHTENING THE CONNECTION UNDERNEATH THE SEAT AND THE LIGHT WAS GONE FOR OVER A MONTH BUT IT CAME BACK AGAIN.
MY CAR IS SLOWING DOWN DRASTICALLY WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS AND RPM IS INCREASING. I SUSPECT THAT THE CVT IS SLIPPING AND CAUSING THE CAR TO ENGINE BRAKE. THIS IS THE REASON SUBARU EXTENDED THE CVT WARRANTY, BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE CVTS.
MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN BEGAN GIVING ME A PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG CENSOR ERROR. NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED IT JUST OUT OF THE BLUE APPEARED. I HAD TO TAKE MY FORESTER TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRUNSWICK SUBARU (2992 CENTER RD, BRUNSWICK, OH 44212, (330) 273-3300) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOTTOM SEAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1,200. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TAKATA RECALL- WHEN DRIVING THE PASSENGER SEATBELT LIGHT SWITCHES OFF EVEN WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. I CANNOT LET ANYONE OCCUPY THE SEAT BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS NOT SAFE.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DOES NOT FUNCTION. THE SENSOR CANNOT TELL WHEN A PASSENGER IS PRESENT. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY, SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. IN THE PAST MONTH, THE AIRBAGS HAVE NOT BEEN ON AT ALL.
FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSORS ERRATICALLY REPORT A MALFUNCTION AND SUGGEST AN INSPECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AS WELL AS STATIONARY. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT A FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT. I CALLED SUBARU AMERICA AND BROUGHT THE CAR INTO NAPLETON SUBARU ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL ON JULY 24, 2019. ON THAT DATE I COULD NOT RECREATE THE ERROR MESSAGES. NAPLETON INSPECTED AND TOLD ME SYSTEM NEEDED A RESET WHICH THEY DID FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THERE WAS NO ERROR MESSAGE EITHER IMMEDIATELY BEFORE OR AFTER THE VISIT, I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING WHETHER RESET WAS EFFECTIVE. THE NEXT DAY THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS BACK. PICTURES ATTACHED AS WELL AS RECEIPT FROM NAPLETON DESCRIBING WORK PERFORMED. *TT CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER TWICE AND IS CURRENTLY WORKING PROPERLY, BUT CANNOT DETERMINE WHETHER THE AIR BAG ERROR MESSAGE HAS BEEN FALSELY ACTIVATED. OR IF THERE IS A REAL MALFUNCTION.*JB
ODS / AIR BAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. DOESN'T MATTER IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT. SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS WE DAMAGED THE SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT. PART IS IN FOR REPAIR AND WE'RE TRYING TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO GET BACK INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE DO THE REPAIR AT OUR COST.
WHEN IN MOTION, THE OCCUPANCY DETECTOR SENSOR LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. THIS IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING IN MY 2016 FORESTER AND ALSO HAPPENED IN MY 2014 FORESTER.
THERE WERE 5 MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE THAT I WANT INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT NB ON US-101 IN THE #1 LANE OF TRAFFIC, GOING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, WHEN FOR NO EXPLAINABLE REASON, THE REAR TIRES OF MY 2016 SUBARU FORESTER BEGAN TO SKID ME ACROSS THE #2 LANE OF TRAFFIC. I WILL NOTE THAT IT HAD JUST STOPPED SPRINKLING AND THE ROAD WAS DAMP. ISSUE 1: DURING MY SKID, THE SKID CONTROL FEATURE NEVER ENGAGED (WHICH IS A MARKETED FEATURE AND A REASON I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE). I HAD TO FIGHT THE SKID ON MY OWN. ISSUE 2: THE ROLL OVER FEATURE NEVER ENGAGED (WHICH IS A MARKETED FEATURE AND ANOTHER REASON I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE). AFTER FIGHTING TO PREVENT MY VEHICLE FROM ROLLING OVER AND SKIDDING OUT OF CONTROL, I ULTIMATELY CRASH ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, HITTING A LIGHT POST. ISSUE 3: UPON HITTING THE LIGHT POST, MY SEAT BELT FLEW OFF. (BOTH MY HANDS WERE ON THE WHEEL AT THE TIME AND THERE WERE NO LOOSE OBJECTS IN THE AREA. UNLESS THIS IS SOME "FEATURE" IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR THE SEAT BELT TO DISENGAGE AUTOMATICALLY.) ISSUE 4: THE CRASH NOTIFICATION FEATURE, THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR, DID NOT DO IT'S JOB. EVEN WITH MY CELL PHONE LINKED TO THE VEHICLE, THE CRASH NOTIFICATION NEVER CALLED 9-1-1 ON MY BEHALF. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 9-1-1 TO NOTIFY CHP OF MY ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS FEARFUL OF ANOTHER VEHICLE ALSO SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AND HITTING ME. CHP TOOK A REPORT. ** ISSUE 5 **: THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND AUTO BODY SHOP. THE AUTO BODY SHOP STATED VEHICLE HIT THE POLE SO HARD ALL BOLTS WERE BENT INTO A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. HOW DOES A CRASH THAT SEVERE NOT ENGAGE THE AIR BAGS? I HAD A SCAR ON MY COLLAR BONE FOR A MONTH AFTER THE CRASH. NONE OF THE MARKETED OR REQUIRED SAFETY FEATURES WORKED TO PREVENT THE CRASH NOR ASSIST AFTER THE CRASH.
IN EARLY MAY 2019, THE VEHICLE STARTED GIVING AIRBAG WARNINGS AND DISABLING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO MY SUBARU DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE A COUPLE WEEKS LATER. IT TOOK A MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE WARNING DIAGNOSED. FINALLY THEY DID THE ANALYSIS AND TOLD ME THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR HAD FAILED, AND CLAIMED IT WAS BECAUSE THE SEAT GOT WET (IT DIDN'T). AFTER I COMPLAINED TO MANAGEMENT THEY COMP'D THE REPAIR AND REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION AT THE END OF JUNE. THE PROBLEM HASN'T RECURRED.
SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WENT BAD UNDER NORMAL USE AND SUBARU DOES NOT WANT TO COVER EXPENSE TO REPLACE, AND THIS SENSOR LETS DRIVER KNOW IF AIRBAG IS ENGAGED (ON) OR NOT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESTART AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. FUEL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED 70 MILES BEFORE EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BLAISE ALEXANDER SUBARU (1703 W COLLEGE AVE, STATE COLLEGE, PA 16801) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
KEY STUCK IN IGNITION CARMUST BE LEFT UNLOCKED WITH KEY IN IT WHEN PARKED - THIS CREATES A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE CAR CAN BE STOLEN OR INTRUDER CAN COME INTO CAR. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAD A REVISED PART 35122FJ033 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DESPITE BEING A KNOWN DESIGN DEFECT WITH SAFETY IMPLICATIONS THERE IS NO RECALL AND THE CONSUMER MUST PAY THE $400 FOR THE REPAIR.
SUBARU IS AWARE OF FAULTY COMPONENTS IN THEIR AC COMPRESSOR/CLUTCH ASSEMBLY BUT REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE COMPONENTS FALL APART AFTER A CERTAIN TIME. THEY ISSUED A TSB TO THEIR DEALERS AND TECHNICIANS ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT NEVER NOTIFIED ME ABOUT THE ISSUE WHEN THE TICKET WAS CREATED ONLY 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE.
THE CAR HAS HAD INTERMITTENT SRS ERRORS STARTING SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THE CAR IN SUMMER OF 2016. WE HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY CONSISTANCY AS TO WHEN THE "SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" MESSAGE APPEARS. SOMETIMES WEEKS GO BY WITH NO ERRORS. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO ON AND NOT APPEAR THE NEXT TIME THE CAR IS STARTED. MY CONCERN IS THE SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTION WHEN NEEDED. I AM LISTING THE MOST RECENT DATE THIS HAS HAPPENED BELOW BUT AS STATED IT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT FOR YEARS.
INTERMITTENT IGNITION ISSUE WILL NOT ALWAYS RELEASE KEY WHEN AUTO IS TURNED OFF. THE POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO AFFECT IT.DOES NOT ALLOW ROTATION TO THE RELEASE KEY POSITION.SOMETIMES I HAVE TO TURN AUTO BACK ON, BACK OUT, AND PULL IN WITH WHEELS AND STEERING WHEEL IN PERFECT STRAIGHT ALIGNMENT, WHICH SEEMS TO ALLOW ME TO TURN KEY TO RELEASE KEY POSITION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS FLASHING AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED. HASSETT SUBARU (3520 SUNRISE HWY, WANTAGH, NY 11793, (516) 785-7800) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY AIR BAG RECALL; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED FOUR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. *BF
THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT RANDOMLY GOES OFF WHEN THERE'S A PASSENGER IN THE CAR OR NOT. THE SEAT BELT ALARM FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE GOES OFF WITHOUT A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. AIRBAG SENSOR SAYS "OFF" WITH A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, AS I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT AIRBAG IS TRULY FUNCTIONAL, AND ALSO AN ANNOYANCE, AS THE SEATBELT ALARM DINGS WHILE I'M DRIVING.
MY VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SAFETY RECALL (WUE-90). AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND REQUESTED AN APPOINTMENT TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL OCTOBER. HOWEVER, IF I SCHEDULED MY CAR FOR ANOTHER PAID SERVICE (A WHEEL ALIGNMENT) THEY WOULD FIX THE ISSUE WITHIN THREE WEEKS. MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1) CAN A DEALER POSTPONE A SAFETY RECALL FOR FIVE MONTHS? AND 2) CAN A DEALER REQUIRE A CUSTOMER TO PAY FOR ANOTHER SERVICE TO GET A TIMELY APPOINTMENT FOR A SAFETY RECALL?
THE REAR HATCH DOOR HAS OPENED THREE TIMES WITHOUT MY DOING ANYTHING TO OPEN IT.. EACH TIME I HAVE FOUND THE DOOR UP AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY CARPORT. I LIVE ALONE AND NO ONE ELSE HAS ACCESS TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS.
ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS 24 HOURS APART THE CAR STALLED (SEEMED TO DROP INTO NEUTRAL) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ~80MPH AFTER GREATER THAN 1.5 HOURS OF DRIVING. THE RPM JUMPED UP AND THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION DESPITE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN PARK THE ENGINE DIED. BOTH TIMES IT FAILED TO START AGAIN WITH MULTIPLE SPACED OUT ATTEMPTS OVER MORE THAN 2 HOURS. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND BOTH TIMES AFTER BEING UNLOADED HOURS LATER IT STARTED WITH NO ISSUE AND THE DEALERS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SENT US HOME. A VERY UNSAFE INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH NO OBVIOUS CAUSE OR FIX.
2 SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF COMPLETE ENGINE POWER LOSS WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT CRUISING SPEEDS. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 70MPH ON A HIGHWAY. WE HEARD A LOUD BANG THEN ENGINE DIED AND WE LOST ALL POWER TO THE CAR. THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE BUT WE WERE ABLE TO COAST IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WHEN WE OPENED HOOD THERE WAS OIL EVERYWHERE AND A GIANT CRACK AND HOLE IN THE ENGINE. WE HAD TO TOW IT 170 MILES HOME WHERE IT WAS IN THE SHOP 5 WEEKS GETTING FIXED. AFTER HAVING THE CAR ONLY 3 WEEKS THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHERE THE CAR LOST TORQUE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT WENT UP TO 60 NORMALLY BUT THEN FALTERED AND DROPPED DOWN TO 20MPH. WE WENT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT WAS FINE DRIVING NORMALLY THEN DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. WE DROVE IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DEALER WE HEARD A LOUD BANG, TONS OF SMOKE, AND AS SOON AS WE PULLED UP TO SUBARU WE OPENED THE HOOD AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS OIL EVERYWHERE AND A CRACK IN THE ENGINE IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME AREA. EXTREMELY SCARY INCIDENTS.

PROBLEMS SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT WITH CARBONE SUBARU ON COMMERCIAL DRIVE, YORKVLLE NY. 1: COULDN'T GET THROUGH ON PHONE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. WHEN USING THE NAVIGATION FUNCTION, THE AUDIO STOPS PROVIDING VOICE DIRECTIONS, FORCING THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO PHYSICALLY LOOK AT THE MAP DISPLAY FOR DIRECTIONS, TAKING EYES OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON HIGHWAYS AS WELL AS IN CITY DRIVING. THIS ALSO LOCKS THE RADIO DISPLAY WHICH PREVENTS ANY OTHER USAGE OF THE INFORMATION SCREEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS, THE LAST TIME IN APRIL 2019..
THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS TO BE BRITTLE. ROCK CHIPS DEVELOP INTO LONG CRACKS THAT CONTINUE LENGTHENING WITHIN WEEKS. ROCK CHIPS CANNOT BE REPAIRED WITHOUT FURTHER CRACKING CONTINUING. ONE TECHNICIAN TRIED SIX TIMES TO REPAIR A CRACK. THE WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $802.13 AND A CLAIM FILED WITH INSURANCE. WITHIN 14 MONTHS THE WINDSHIELD HAS DEVELOPED A SNACKING CRACK THAT IS CONTINUING TO GROW FROM A ROCK CHIP AGAIN. IT'S CONCERNING THAT ANOTHER INSURANCE CLAIM WILL NEED TO BE FILED AND THAT THE WINDSHIELD CAN NOT WITHSTAND NORMAL ROCK CHIPS. IT IS ALSO CONCERNING HOW THE WINDSHIELD WILL PERFORM IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO THE REQUIRED WINDSHIELD TO MAINTAIN 'EYESIGHT' IS NOT AFFORDABLE WITHOUT FILING AN INSURANCE CLAIM. THE CHIPS DEVELOP WHEN DRIVING 50-65 MILES AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY.
WHILE GETTING READY TO SLOW FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT RED SIGNAL THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON INCLUDING THE NEED TO TOW THE VEHICLE. I GOT THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT STILL ON AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO ABOUT 2 MILES PER HOUR UNTIL I STOPPED. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE ABS LIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON. THE BRAKES PERFORMED NORMALLY. I DROVE HOME. OVERNIGHT THE BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND I NOW HAVE A DEAD BATTERY. THE BRAKE LIGHT IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON A RECALL LAST WEEK ABOUT 150 MILES AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SCHOMP SUBARU (580 S HAVANA ST, AURORA, CO 80012, (720) 343-2210), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,500.
WE'VE HAD THE CAR FROM NEW LEASE THE BATTERY HAS DIED AT LEAST 4 TIMES. AFTER THE 2ND TIME, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED. THEY SAID BATTERY AND CHARGER WERE FINE. IT IS NOT FINE IF THE BATTERY CAN'T HOLD ENOUGH POWER TO START CAR AFTER LEAVING KEY ON ACC FOR 15 MINUTES WITH NO LIGHTS, NO RADIO, NOTHING KNOWINGLY DRAWING POWER. EVEN WHEN THE BATTERY STARTS THE CAR NORMALLY, CRANKING IS SLOW, ALMOST UNABLE TO CRANK. I HAVE HAD TO RESCUE MY WIFE, HER SON-IN-LAW HAS HAD TO, BUT WHAT IF WE AREN'T AVAILABLE. A CAR SHOULD BE GENERALLY ABLE TO START UNLESS YOU'VE LEFT THE LIGHTS ON FOR HOURS. THE LAST SITUATION, DRIVEN TO MCDONALD'S, PARKED AND ENGINE OFF, KEY WAS TURNED TO ACC TO ROLL DOWN WINDOW; NOTHING ELSE. AFTER 15-20 MINUTES, CAR WOULD NOT START, DEAD BATTERY. I HAD TO COME AND JUMP IT.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THERE HIGHWAY IN UTAH WITH NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I HEARD A LOUD CRACKING NOISE COME FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE UPPER CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD. I STOPPED AND INSPECTED THE WINDSHIELD AND DID NOT SEE AND CHIPS OR CRACKS. I KEPT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 HOURS AND WHEN I STOPPED I NOTICED A 4 INCH CRACK IN THE UPPER AREA OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE ORIGINAL CRACKING NOISE CAME FROM. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS THIS PAST WEEK WHILE IN UTAH (30F AT NIGHT AND 60-65F DURING THE DAY). THE HIGHWAY WAS SMOOTH (NOT BUMPY OR ROUGH). IT WAS A CLEAR AND SUNNY DAY.
KEEP GETTING MESSAGE "SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" WHILE DRIVING. DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE SET SENSOR AT MY COST. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SUBARU IS NOT FIXING THE ISSUE LEAVING DRIVER IN DANGER. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL!
HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION ABOUT 1/2 THE TIME AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND HAVE IT IN PARK. AND HAS HAPPENED OFF AND ON OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS.
WHEEL BEARING HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOISES OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING. DEALERSHIP FIXED WITHOUT CHARGE.
HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION ABOUT 1/2 THE TIME AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND HAVE IT IN PARK. AND HAS HAPPENED OFF AND ON OVER ABOUT THE LAST MONTH OR 2 MONTHS.
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING AND SWITCHING OFF THE AIRBAG WHEN SOMEONE SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.
BRAKE LIGHTS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE RECALL (WUE-90) WHEN I'M PARKED OR DRIVING, MULTIPLE ALERTS SHOW ON MY DASHBOARD (EYESIGHT OFF, ABS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED, VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED, HILL START ASSIST SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED). SOMETIMES WHEN I START MY CAR AND I'M ABOUT TO CHANGE TO DRIVE, IT WON'T LET ME SWITCH OUT OF PARK. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN THE ALERTS GO OFF, MY BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T ALWAYS ILLUMINATE. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING IN OCTOBER 2018. I WAS THEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRED, THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE FIXED UNTIL THE LIGHTS BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE AGAIN AT THE BEGINNING OF MARCH 2019. YOU CAN SEE THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT HAVE ILLUMINATED IN THE ATTACHMENTS.
SIRIUS RADIO WILL NOT LIST ALL CHANNELS AVAILABLE CAUSING USER TO HAVE TO MANUALLY TUNE RADIO, WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. DEALER UNABLE TO FIX AFTER SIX MONTHS. HAVE BEEN ADVISED NOT A WIDE PROBLEM BUT DEALER IS SEEING A FEW OTHER FORESTERS WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO FIX.
COULDN'T START CAR FOUND OUT IT WAS BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING HAD TO HAVE REPLACE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. NOW I CANT ALWAYS GET MY KEY OUR OF THE IGNITION. ALSO MY TIRE PRESSURES DON'T STAY UP. I HAVE HAD TO INFLATE THEM ABOUT 3 TIME IN AS MANY MONTHS.
ON SEMI-SLICK PATCHES OF ROAD, THE 2016 FORESTER DRIVETRAIN WREAKS HAVOC ON THE CONTROL SYSTEMS AND STEERING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIOLENTLY BREAK RIGHT OR LEFT REQUIRING HARD STEERING TO STEER FORWARD. PASSENGERS SUFFER MOTION SICKNESS; IT IS THAT BAD. WHILE OTHER TRAFFIC (E.G., SEMI-TRUCKS, GRAVEL HAULERS, 20+ FOOT TRAILED VEHICLES) CAN PASS THE FORESTER WITH NO PROBLEM AT MUCH HIGHER SPEEDS, THE 2016 FORESTER CANNOT BE DRIVEN OVER 40MPH OR SEVER LOSS OF CONTROL (E.G., EXPRESSWAY); MUCH LIKE LUG NUTS LOOSE ON ONE OR MORE WHEELS. THE 2016 FORESTER IS A DEATH TRAP EVEN AT 40MPH BECAUSE UNKNOWN WHEN IT WILL JUST BREAK TO RIGHT OR LEFT. PUT NEW TIRES ON; SAME PROBLEM (FACTORY SPEC ALIGNMENT OKAY). TOOK TO DEALER, AND REAR WHEELS WERE ADJUSTED WITH IRREGULAR ALIGNMENT TO TRY TO KEEP VEHICLE FROM TRACKING IN A FASHION TO TRY TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM. A LITTLE BETTER WITH IRREGULAR ALIGNMENT BUT NOW 5% TO 10% LOSS MPG AND GREATER TIRE WEAR. I STILL DO NOT TRUST THE VEHICLE. JUST A TERRIBLE RIDE. EVEN ON DRY ROADS, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIND; BUT NO WIND; JUST DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE ENGINEERING BETWEEN STEERING-DRIVETRAIN-WHEELS-VEHICLE SYSTEMS. I HAVE PAID OVER $700 ON THIS PROBLEM PLUS LOSS OF MPG. LOOKING TO TRADE IN BUT I AM NOT COMFORTABLE PASSING ALONG A DEATH TRAP TO SOMEONE ELSE; SO I AM STUCK WITH A $33,000 PIECE OF JUNK.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR WHEN STOPPING WITH MAXIMUM LOAD WHEN STOPPING ON STREET OR HIGHWAY.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS THE REAR-END SHIFTS TO THE LEFT WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP (DRY OR WET PAVEMENT). IT ALSO SHIFTS TO THE LEFT WHEN DRIVING ON ICE. I KNOW CARS PERFORM POORLY ON ICE, BUT I'VE HAD MANY DRIVING CAREERS AND THIS PROBLEM IS UNIQUE AND NOT NORMAL FOR ANY CAR. ALSO IT HYDROPLANES EASILY. THE REAR TIRES (ESPECIALLY THE RIGHT REAR TIRE) WEAR UNNATURALLY. I HAVE TO REPLACE TIRES APPROXIMATELY EVERY 18000 MILES. THIS IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND I RARELY HIT THE BRAKES. I DON'T ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY AND NEVER SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I USUALLY GET 60000+ MILES FROM MY TIRES. THE FRONT TIRES BY COMPARISON LAST 5-10 TIMES LONGER THAN THE REAR TIRES BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF TREAD WEAR AS COMPARED TO THE REAR TIRES OVER THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES AS I DO ROTATE THEM REGULARLY. THIS CAR MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE ON ICE AT ANY SPEED AND IS A LITTLE BIT HAIR RAISING JUST ON WET PAVEMENT. WHY IT WOULD SHIFT TO THE LEFT ON THE SMALLEST OF BUMPS AND EVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT (WORSE ON WET PAVEMENT) IS BEYOND ME. RECENTLY THE CONTROL ARMS AND TIE RODS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 102K MILES. AFTER THAT REPAIR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND AIR SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAR SEEMS LIKE A LEMON TO ME. I BOUGHT THIS NEW CAR FIGURING I WOULDN'T HAVE ISSUES I'VE HAD WITH USED CARS. I ENTERED A DATE OF 2016 WHEN THIS HAPPENED SINCE IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR ALTHOUGH IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I'M ON ICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED, STRUCK A WALL, AND WAS STRUCK BY THREE OTHER VEHICLES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BRUISED FACE AND MINOR CONTUSIONS, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
TODAY MARKS THE THIRD TIME WE ARE TAKING THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING WHEN ACCELERATING.
I HAVE HAD VERY SIMILAR ISSUES TO THE GENTLEMAN WHOSE NHTSA # IS 11161972. ON THREE OCCASIONS WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES AN HOUR AND USUALLY GOING UP AND INCLINE, MY ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND THE CAR WOULD DIE. ALL THREE TIMES MY CAR SCREEN SHOWED THAT I HAD BETWEEN 60 AND 80 MILES LEFT IN MY TANK AND MY FUEL GAUGE WHICH SHOW TWO CLICKS TO THE RIGHT OF EMPTY. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT IT COULD BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I NEEDED GAS IN MY CAR . AT THAT POINT I CONTACTED AAA AND THEY BROUGHT ME 2 GALLONS OF GAS TO GET ME TO THE NEXT EXIT TO SO THAT I CAN FILL MY TANK. THE SECOND TIME I HAD MOVED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AS MY CAR WAS DYING. I HAD WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHILE I WAS WAITING ON AAA AGAIN TO SHOW UP WHEN I DECIDED TO START MY CAR AND THE ENGINE STARTED. I WAS LITERALLY 2/10 OF A MILE FROM THE GAS STATION SO I HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION TO FILL MY TANK. THE THIRD TIME AS I WAS INCLINING ON A HILL IN THE FAST LANE, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 70 MILES AN HOUR. FORTUNATELY I THOUGHT FAST AND HIT THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AS I HAD A SEMI RIGHT BEHIND MY CAR. THIS TIME I MOVED OVER INTO THE LEFT SIDE EMERGENCY LANE AND WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND MY CAR STARTED AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS SHOWING BETWEEN 60 AND 90 MILES OF GAS LEFT IN MY TANK AND ALWAYS WITH TWO CLICKS ON THE FULL GAGE. I AM NOT SURE AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS YET WE'RE UNABLE TO RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY TRIED TO DRIVE IT. AS SOMEONE WHO PUTS A LOT OF ROAD MILES ON THEIR CAR FOR WORK, THIS IS A LITTLE BIT SCARY AS MY TRAVELS ARE ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOT ALWAYS IN LARGE CITIES. ONE THING THAT I HAVE NOTICED IS THAT THE VIN NUMBER ON NHTSA TICKET # 11161972 MATCHES MINE EXACTLY BASED ON WHAT IS SHOWN ON YOUR SITE. ALL HWY DRIVING.
2 SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF COMPLETE ENGINE POWER LOSS WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT CRUISING SPEEDS. BOTH IN INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITH LOW FUEL ABOUT 1/8TH TANK (2-3 GALLONS) VERIFIED BASED ON AMOUNT REFILLED TO FULL. FUEL GAUGE WAS READING 2 BARS (1/8) AND LOW FUEL LIGHT ON BUT SHOWING 70 MILES OF FUEL REMAINING. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS GOING UP VERY SLIGHT INCLINE. SUDDEN NON-RESPONSE OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SUBSEQUENT DECELERATION AS CAR WAS DRIVEN TO SHOULDER. ENGINE SHIFT DOWN COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN WHILE ON SIDE OF ROAD. IN FIRST INCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 78W IN PA, THE CAR COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED UNTIL AFTER APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES AFTER TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL SUBARU DEALER AND INSPECTED BUT NO ROOT CAUSE FOUND OR REPORTED. THE CAR WAS OPERATED FOR ANOTHER ~20,000 MILES UNTIL SECOND EVENT ON NJ GARDEN STATE PARKWAY SOUTH WHERE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND THE CAR WAS COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES THE CAR WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO NEAREST GAS STATION AND FILLED UP, REQUIRING 14.1 GALLONS. THIS EVENT OCCURRED ON NOV 28TH, 2018. AS OF THIS WRITING, THIS SECOND EVENT HAS NOT YET BEEN COMMUNICATED TO SUBARU YET WAS POSTED BY ME ON AN ONLINE FORUM IN RESPONSE TO OTHER USERS REPORTING SIMILAR ENGINE ISSUES AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH SIMILAR LOW FUEL CONDITIONS IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE. I AM REPORTING THE ISSUE HERE BECAUSE IT SEEMS MY INCIDENTS ARE NOT UNIQUE AND PRESENT SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARDS DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
BLUETOOTH EQUIPPED SIRIUS RADIO DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, CAUSING THE OPERATOR TO HAVE TO TUNE THE RADIO MANUALLY, DISTRACTING THE DRIVER FROM CAREFUL OPERATION. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BY THE SUBARU DEALER TO CORRECT HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BECAUSE OF SUBARU'S CLAIM TO SELL SAFE VEHICLES!
SRS MESSAGE AND WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. MESSAGE SRS SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER I EXPLAINED THE ISSUES SHOWED THEM THREE PICTURES OF THE WARNING AND INDICATORS WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURS. WAS TOLD THAT THEIR WAS NOTHING WRONG. NO ACTIVE CODES FOUND. UNABLE TO HAVE SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT IN CASE THE AIR BAG DOES NOT DEPLOY. CONTACTED SUBARU HAVE NOT RESPONDED. THE WARING AND INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON WHEN SOMEONE IS SETTING IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT, WITH NO ONE IN THE SEAT AND WITH NO ONE IN THE CAR IN PARK WITH ENGINE IDLING. THE VEHICLE COULD BE MOVING OR PARKED IDLING AND THE WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHT WILL COME ON.
THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. IT WILL OCCASIONALLY SET A WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, SAYING THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT, BUT THEN YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE WARNING DISAPPEARS. THE 'CURE' IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ASSEMBLY! THE FOLLOWING TEXT FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINT PERFECTLY DESCRIBES MY SITUATION: "SUBARU IS KNOWINGLY BUILDING ITS CARS WITH FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS WHICH WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF THE AIR BAG WHILE THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED UNDER NORMAL LIFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS IN THE 2016 AND 2017 OWNERS MANUAL THAT IF THERE IS A CELL PHONE OR ELECTRICAL DEVICE IN THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR THEN THE AIR BAG SENSORS COULD MALFUNCTION. IT ALSO STATES THAT IF YOUR PASSENGER IS WEARING A JACKET OR SWEATER THIS COULD CAUSE THE SENSORS TO TURN THE LIFE SAVING AIR BAG OFF."
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. PERIODICALLY, WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO JIGGLE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES IN ORDER TO GET THEM TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN TWO YEARS AND WERE INADEQUATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
PASSENGER DETECTION SYSTEM TO TURN ON AIRBAG HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING. WILL TURN OFF PASSENGER AIR BAG WITH AN ADULT PRESENT IN THE SEAT, OR NOT TURN IT ON INITIALLY. NOW IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS OFF AT SOME POINT IN A DRIVING EXPERIENCE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET IT CHECKED OUT WERE MADE BUT REQUIRED TOO LONG AND NO LOANER WAS AVAILABLE. AFTER GETTING A SECOND CAR, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED BE TESTED OCTOBER 2, 2018 AND PARTS WERE ORDERED. WHEN I TRIED TO FIND WHEN THE PART MAY COME IN AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS, NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE SYSTEM ACKNOWLEDGES THE PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER BECAUSE IT GIVES A WARNING ON THE DISPLAY THAT IT NEEDS SERVICE BUT IT LEAVES AIRBAG OFF ANYWAY. I BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG WAITING FOR PARTS FOR A SAFETY SYSTEM PROBLEM. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR SEVERAL MODEL YEARS ACCORDING TO COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA AND ON SUBARU OWNER'S FORUMS.
I HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE THE ENGINE WILL FLUTTER IN IDLE AND WILL ALMOST SKIP AS IF IT'S NOT GETTING ANY GAS. THE FLUTTER CAUSES THE CAR TO SHAKE, IT HAS EVEN CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL. WHEN IT STALLED I HAD STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE, TAPPED THE GAS AND THE ENGINE CUT OUT AND SHUT OFF. I BROUGHT THE ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THEY COULDNT FIND ANY PROBLEMS.
MY VEHICLE ALARM SYSTEM CAME ON UNEXPECTEDLY TOWARD THE END OF A DAY-LONG DRIVE, WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT, HILL ASSIST, EYESIGHT, AND OTHER DASH WARNING LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED. THE PROBLEM DISABLED THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM, WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN CLEAR WEATHER WHEN A DRIVER EXPECTS IT TO WORK. THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE WAS UNNERVING, LATE ON A THURSDAY NIGHT, ON A HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, WHEN NOTHING WAS OPEN. TURNS OUT THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IT DESERVES A RECALL!
THIS USED VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A DEALER AS A "GREAT BUY", WITH 74589 MILES ON MAY 23, 2018. LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER, BELLS AND DINGS BEGAN SOUNDING WHILE DRIVING, LIGHT INDICATORS INDICATED THAT THE SRS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CHECKED; THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS NOT ON SOMETIMES, OTHER TIMES IT WAS..INTERMITTENT. CAR IN MOTION BOTH ON CITY STREETS AND ON HIGHWAY. NO RECALLS WERE REPORTED AT THAT TIME, AND I NEVER KNEW WHILE DRIVING WHETHER EITHER SIDE SEATBELTS WERE ENGAGED WHEN I KNEW THEY WERE, NOR WHETHER AIRBAGS WERE VIABLE. DANGEROUS FOR DRIVER AND FOR PASSENGER. INDEPENDENT DEALER AND SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WERE PERPLEXED, DEALERSHIPS HAD NO AVAILABLE PARTS.....HERE IT IS, OCT. 2, 2018, OVER 4 MONTHS LATER, AND NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO DEALERS OR AUTHORIZED REPAIR COMPANIES TO COMPLY WITH SAFETY REGULATIONS. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE; SUBARU NEEDS TO PROVIDE PARTS AT NO EXPENSE TO THIS CUSTOMER TO ASSURE SAFETY. AND, THEY NEED TO ISSUE A RECALL OR FACE POTENTIAL LAWSUITS.... ## VIN PASSED ## SUBARU FORESTER 2016 ##
2016 SUBARU FORESTER XT WITH 57000 MILES. THE CEL CAME ON DURING A 5 MINUTE DRIVE AND STARTED TO STALL. AFTER STOPPING AND STARTING THE CAR, THE ENGINE CONTINUOUSLY SPUTTERED. CEL CAME ON, STABILITY CONTROL DISABLED, TRACTION CONTROL DISABLED, CRUISE CONTROL DISABLED. TO KEEP THE CAR FROM DYING, DRIVER HAD TO REV ENGINE. DRIVER TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE (STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS). CEL WAS RESET AFTER DEALERSHIP CHANGED THE O2 SENSOR. CAR RAN FINE FOR 50 MILES. CEL CAME ON, STABILITY CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL AND CRUISE CONTROL WERE ALL DISABLED. CAR WOULD SKID ON WET SURFACES. CAR WOULD STALL. CAR WOULD LAG ON THE THROTTLE RESPONSE AND THEN ACCELERATE AT A VERY HIGH-RATE, RESULTING IN NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. BRAKE-LIGHT SENSOR WAS REPLACED FIRST AND CEL RESET. ISSUE APPEARED IMMEDIATELY AFTERWORDS AND ALL FUEL INJECTORS HAD TO REPLACED. DROVE CAR FROM DEALERSHIP AND 1 DAY LATER, SAME PROBLEM APPEARED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED EGR VALVE. DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS OF AUGUST 20, 2018, THE CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE AND WITH THE DEALERSHIP UNDERGOING DIAGNOSTICS. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION DRIVING ON BOTH A HIGHWAY, CITY STREET, AND MAKING TURNS. THE FAULT HAS NOT BEEN SUCCESSFULLY IDENTIFIED BUT ALL ATTEMPTS AT RESOLUTION HAVE BEEN ON THE FUEL, THROTTLE, AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS.
I COPIED THIS MESSAGE FROM ANOTHER COMPLAINT WHICH EXPLAINS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TRYING TO COMPLAINT. SUBARU IS KNOWINGLY BUILDING ITS CARS WITH FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSORS WHICH WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF THE AIR BAG WHILE THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED UNDER NORMAL LIFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT IS IN THE 2016 AND 2017 OWNERS MANUAL THAT IF THERE IS A CELL PHONE OR ELECTRICAL DEVICE IN THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR THEN THE AIR BAG SENSORS COULD MALFUNCTION. IT ALSO STATES THAT IF YOUR PASSENGER IS WEARING A JACKET OR SWEATER THIS COULD CAUSE THE SENSORS TO TURN THE LIFE SAVING AIR BAG OFF. MY 17 TEENAGER HAD NO ELECTRONICS BUT A SWEATER ON AND IT SHUT OFF AIR BAG WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY. HOW IS THIS LEGAL TO KNOWINGLY SELL A CAR WITH FAULTY SAFETY EQUIPMENT. WATER IS ENTERING THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR FROM UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. THE CARPET IS STARTING TO SMELL OF MILDEW. ON FIVE DIFFERENT OCCURRENCES WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AND WE WERE DRIVING AT AROUND 70 MILES AN HOUR ON AN INTERSTATE, OUR CAR WOULD ELECTRONICALLY PUT ITSELF IN NEUTRAL, THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFTER WOULD PHYSICALLY REMAIN IN DRIVE, THE RPM'S WOULD GO UP TO ABOUT 5500 RPMS, BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON. WE WOULD PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS. THREE OF THE FIVE TIMES, THE CAR WOULD START AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. THE THIRD TIME THE BATTERY DIED AFTER TRYING TO START IT A FEW TIMES WHILE IT WAS COLD OUT. THE FIFTH TIME THE CAR LEFT US STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE FOR TWO HOURS WHILE WE WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK. WE HAVE NOTIFIED SUBARU EVERY TIME THAT THE CAR WOULD DO THIS. ON THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, SUBARU HAD US REMOVE THE REMOTE STARTER WE HAD PURCHASED AND INSTALLED AT BEST BUY. AFTER HAVING BEST BUY REMOVE THE REMOTE STARTED, I INSTALLED A DASHCAM BEHIND THE DRIVER TO RECORD THE DRIVER, DASHBOARD AND THE SHIFTER BECAUSE SUBARU COULD NOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF THIS ISSUE HAPPENING. THE FOURTH AND FIFTH TIME HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE ON A FAMILY VACATION OUT OF STATE. THE CAR WAS LEFT AT A DEALERSHIP OUT OF STATE AND FOUR WEEKS AFTER THE INCIDENT THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. I WAS TOLD ON THE PHONE THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO TEST IF THE FUEL PUMP THEY REMOVED WAS IN FACT FAULTY. SUBARU TOLD ME THEY HAD A TECHNICIAN DRIVE IT FOR 500 MILES AND THEY DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE. INCIDENTS WERE AT THE FOLLOWING MILEAGES - DATES: 31190 - MAY 27TH, 2017 34383 - AUGUST 27TH, 2017 APPROXIMATELY 42300 - FEBRUARY 2ND, 2018 51778 - AUGUST 9TH, 2018 52129 - AUGUST 14TH, 2018
SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING MANUAL TRANSMISSION COMING OUT OF GEAR WHILE ENGINE BRAKING.THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FLAT ROADS AND WHILE DESCENDING HILLS, AND WHILE IN FIRST OR SECONDS GEAR. ISSUE EASILY DUPLICATED WHEN IN FIRST GEAR AT LOW SPEED (BETWEEN 1,500 AND 3,000 RPM) GOING DOWNHILL WITH FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL. AS THE VEHICLE DESCENDS THE HILL, THE GEAR LEVER BEGINS MOVING AND EVENTUALLY POPS INTO NEUTRAL. ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP AT APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE. DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT 30,000 MILES, THE ISSUE WAS BROUGHT UP AGAIN. WENT FOR A DRIVE WITH THE MASTER TECHNICIAN AND DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED SHIFT CABLES, BUSHINGS ON CABLES, CABLE ADJUSTMENT, ENGINE MOUNTS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AND DEEMED THEM ALL IN GOOD CONDITION. DEALERSHIP CONTACTED SUBARU TECHNICAL SERVICES WHICH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COMING OUT OF GEAR IS THE CAR "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" AND THAT IT IS "NORMAL CONDITION FOR CABLE SHIFTED SPLIT CASE 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION". DEALERSHIP ALSO VERIFIED THAT THE ISSUE OCCURS ON ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND SHIFTER. NO REPAIR OR FURTHER INVESTIGATION WAS ADVISED.
ABS WARNING LIGHTS COMES ON THEN AFTER I TURN OFF THE CAR IT DISAPPEARS. BOTHE TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS STOPPED THEN WHILE ACCELERATING THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE FIRST TIME I WAS PARKED THEN WHEN I BACKED UP LIGHTS CAME ON. THE SECOND TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE WHEN I STARTED THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THEN FOLLOWING TIME AFTER THE LIGHTS WERE OFF , I WOULD RESTART CAR AND THE LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING

I DROVE FROM NJ TO ME (BOUGHT IN 2017). I NOTICED DIFFICULTY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE/PASS CARS FROM THE LEFT LANE. I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. AFTER 5 HRS I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY & MADE A RIGHT ONTO A MAIN ST WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, FELT IT PULL BACK & MY WHEELS LOCK UP. I THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING OR GOT A FLAT & WAS RIDING ON MY RIMS. FROM THE RIGHT LANE I MOVED ONTO THE SHOULDER-IT JERKED ROUGHLY BUT REMAINED STUCK. I WALKED AROUND IT & NOTICED NOTHING WRONG ON THE OUTSIDE. I WAITED 2.5 HRS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE ME 6 MINS AWAY TO OUR HOTEL. I CALLED A FEW LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS. NONE COULD SEE ME FOR A WEEK SO MY PLAN WAS TO BRING IT TO THE HOTEL. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID MY CALIPER WAS STICKING & RECOMMENDED I HAVE IT TOWED TO SUBARU SINCE NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO SERVICE IT AT THE HOTEL. SUBARU CALLED/SAID SOMEONE PULLED MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL PLUG & IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. THEY BLAMED THE OIL CHANGE GUY, SAYING HE MADE AN ERROR (THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS NEAR THE OIL DRAIN PLUG) & THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE DIFF THEY MEANT WAS THE FRONT DIFF-THEY ARE CLOSE. THERE ARE 2 DIFFS & THE REAR DIFF IS WHERE MY ISSUE WAS-10 FT AWAY FROM OIL DRAIN. I'VE ONLY HAD OIL/BRAKE PAD CHANGES & NEITHER HAD A REASON TO TOUCH ANY DIFF. THAT WORK IS RECOMMENDED BETWEEN 30-50K MILES & I HAD 31K. I DROVE A RENTAL TO NJ WHILE MY CAR WAITS IN NH. I TALKED TO CORPORATE/SERVICE ALL WEEK BUT THEY WON'T LISTEN TO ME EVEN THOUGH I MAKE A VALID POINT. THEY ASKED WHO DID THOSE ROUTINE SERVICES. I SHARED THE INFO & ASKED WHY IT WAS RELEVANT. HE "HINTED" THAT IT COULD VOID THE WARRANTY. I ASKED IF THAT WAS WHY MY CLAIM WAS DENIED BUT HE SAID HE DIDN'T SAY THAT WAS THE REASON. IT'S ILLEGAL TO TELL CUSTOMERS ONLY SUBARU CAN SERVICE THEIR CARS. EXPERIENCED MECHANICS SAY IF ANYONE PULLED THE DIFF PLUG IN NJ I WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT TO ME-5 HRS AWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A FENCE AND A POLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT BODY SHOP AND THEN TO SUBARU OF ENGLEWOOD (135 SOUTH DEAN STREET, ENGLEWOOD, NJ 07631, (201) 816-6000). THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED AND LEARNED OF MANY SIMILAR OCCURRENCES, WHICH WERE DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EVENT DATA RECORDER THAT THE DEALERS DID NOT HAVE AND THEY WERE INVESTIGATING THE MATTER. THE MANUFACTURER FURTHER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT IF THEY DECIDE TO SEND THE EQUIPMENT TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAS HAD TO INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION THAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO OTHER VEHICLES CAUSING DAMAGE.*JS
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY GOING UP A BRIDGE OVER THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AT ABOUT 65MPH WHEN A BUNCH OF LIGHTS CAME ON AND MY ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPPED. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL AND I HAD TO SWITCH FROM THE LEFT-HAND LANE TO THE RIGHT -HAND LANE TO GET ONTO THE SHOULDER. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION.MY CAR SPEED AND WENT TO 65 MPH TO ABOUT 0 MPH IN THE MATTER OF A MINUTE. I DO YOU SEE THAT MANY PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME TYPE OF INCIDENT HAPPENING. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BY SUBARU.MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MY EMISSIONS CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON IN MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SHOULDER WHILE 65 MPH CARS WERE ZOOMING PAST ME. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR AND MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH A RESOLUTION FOR THE ISSUE THAT I AM SEEING. UNFORTUNATELY IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF FOLKS ON THE INTERNET ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND THEY ARE NOT BEING ADDRESSED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE ON OCTOBER 24, 2017. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. ON JULY 18, 2018, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN AND CRASHED INTO A SECURITY POLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, CAUSING 2 ACCIDENTS. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK & I WAS ROLLING TO A STOP WHEN THE ACCELERATION OCCURRED.
I HAVE A 2016 FORESTER WITH YOKOHAMA G91F TIRES AND JUST HAD INSPECTION THEY SAID TIRE TREAD WAS GOOD EXCEPT THE SIDE ARE WORN DOWN SO I REQUIRED NEW TIRE TO PASS. I FOUND MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS TIRE ONLINE. THE TIRE IS FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES BUT SAYS IT CAN BE USED ON CROSSOVER AND SUV BUT TALKED WITH SEVERAL TIRE SHOPS THAT ALL RECOMMEND USING SUV SPECIFIC TIRES AS THEY SEE THE SAME ISSUE OVER AND OVER WITH CERTAIN MULTI CATEGORY TIRES LIKE THIS WHERE BECAUSE OF RIDE HEIGHT, VEHICLE WEIGHT AND CENTER OF GRAVITY WHEN ROUNDING CORNERS THESE TIRES GET WORN DOWN REALLY QUICKLY BECAUSE OF IT BEING MORE PASSENGER VEHICLE CENTRIC BECAUSE THE EDGES ARE MORE ROUNDED WHERE AS SUV SPECIFIC TIRES HAVE MORE OF A FLAT BOTTOM AND SQUARE EDGES SO THEY DON'T SLIP. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS WHY A LOT OF COMPLAINTS TALK ABOUT POOR PERFORMANCE IN WET WEATHER AS THE SLIP IN CORNERS. THESE ARE STANDARD ON FORESTER AND YOKOHAMA WON'T COVER OEM TIRES AT ALL. I BELIEVE THIS NEEDS INVESTIGATED ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY JUST STARTED SELLING THEIR NEW ASCENT 3 ROW SUV NOT SURE IF IT HAS SAME TIRES. IF YOU WISH TO CONTACT ME MY EMAIL IS [XXX] I WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP RESEARCH AND SEND PROOF FROM USER REVIEWS AND TIRE DEALERS PLUS CAN TAKE PHOTOS. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT SPOT AT IDLE SPEED, I LIGHTLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD COLLIDING WITH THE VEH PARKED TO MY LEFT. MY VEH JUMPED THE CURB WITH THE FRONT END COMING TO REST ON THE SIDEWALK. I HAVE HAD CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THIS SUDDEN SURGING ESPECIALLY WHEN PULLING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE TO ENTER MY GARAGE OR STARTING FROM A STOP. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTON OF SUBARU & TOOK IT TO THEM FOR DIAGNOSIS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM & FOUND NOTHING ABNORMAL IN IT'S OPERATION. APPARENTLY I AM NOT ALONE IN MY COMPLAINT AS I HAVE READ IN THE DECEMBER 2016 ISSUE OF MOTOR TREND MAGAZINE THAT THEY TOO MENTION THE "JUMPY THROTTLE RESPONSE". I HAVE ALSO READ OF SIMILAR RAPID ACCELERATION COMPLAINTS IN YOUR CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS SECTION WHICH PARALLEL MINE. I HAVE TOLD SUBARU THAT THIS COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS COLLISION & THAT I FEAR THAT COULD HAPPEN. EVEN THOUGH THIS COLLISION & RESULTIG DAMAGE WAS MINOR, I AM THANKFUL THERE WAS NO ONE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK THAT COULD HAVE BEEN STUCK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEH NOW & DON'T KNOW WHAT MY NEXT STEP WILL BE. W.A LOVOLD MANHATTAN BEACH, CA
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS SHUTS OFF WHILE PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT WHILE DRIVING. REPORTED TO SUBARU AND WAS TOLD SEAT COVERS AND PHONE CHARGING CABLES MIGHT BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM . UPON FURTHER RESEARCH OTHERS HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OLDER SUBARU MODELS AND SUBARU WILL NOT FIX SO YOU HAVE A 50/50 CHANCE OF YOUR PASSENGER AIR BAG ENGAGING IN A ACCIDENT.
DURING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN, THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO SUFFER MAJOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2018, MY VEHICLE HAS REPORTED PROBLEMS AFTER A MAJOR STORM WITH THE EYESIGHT CAMERA SYSTEM, ABS, HILL ASSIST, AND FUEL GAUGE. FYI-EYESIGHT INCLUDES THE DYNAMIC CRUISE CONTROL, CRASH AVOIDANCE, AND LANE MONITORING SYSTEM. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO OUR SUBARU DEALER/MAINTENANCE TEAM BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DISCOVER THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE.
CAR ACCELERATES QUICKLY AND LURCHES FORWARD WHEN SLIGHTLY TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES FROM START OF CAR AND DURING GENERAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.
THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME I'M BRINGING MY FORESTER BACK TO DEALER DO TO THE CAR WITH MY FOOT ON BRAKE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR FROM PARK THREE LIGHTS SHOWED UP ON THE DASH ONE BEING TRACTION CONTROLL, SECOND WAS THE ABS LIGHT AND LAST ONE WAS THE CAR ON HILL LIGHT AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT SHIFT OUT OF PARK ALLOWING ME TO DRIVE BUT ALL THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 40 THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS IN DECEMBER 2017 THEY SAID IT WAS THE SENSOR BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL, WELL LITTLE BEHOLD FOR THE SECOND TIME I'M BRINGING MY FORESTER BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME ISSUE AS ITS ONLY BEEN 4 MONTHS. I BOUGHT THE CAR OF THERE LOT BRAND NEW IN MAY 2016 I ONLY HAVE 44,000 MILES ON IT NOW.
BROKEN TRANSMISSION DUE TO BROKEN TRANSMISSION BELT AT 43,000 MILES. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A HUGE BANG, AND MY CAR ROCKED BACK AND FORTH. I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN REAR ENDED BUT THERE WAS NOBODY BEHIND ME. MY CAR BEGIN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I TRIED TO GET THE CAR TO DRIVE BY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AND UTILIZED OTHER TECHNIQUES, BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL NAPLES DEVOE SUBARU DEALER. EIGHT DAYS LATER, THEY CONFIRMED MY SUSPICIONS. MY CAR HAD A BROKEN TRANSMISSION AT 43,000 MILES. THIS COULD'VE ENDED MUCH DIFFERENTLY HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I NO LONGER BELIEVE MY SUBARU IS A SAFE VEHICLE. SUBARU HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION SINCE THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WANT TO REPLACE IT WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION RATHER THAN A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH CARRIES A BETTER WARRANTY. BOTH SUBARU OF AMERICA AND DEVOE SUBARU IN NAPLES HAVE BEEN UNRESPONSIVE, DISMISSIVE, DISRESPECTFUL, AND UNINTERESTED IN FIXING MY CAR IN A TIMELY, PROFESSIONAL MANNER. I WILL NO LONGER OWN A SUBARU. 30+ YEARS OF OWNING CARS WITH MANY OF THEM EXCEEDING 200,000 MILES AND NEVER HAVE I BEEN IN A CAR THAT CARRIED THE RISK OF KILLING ME. IF MY TRANSMISSION BELT HAD BROKEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING 75 MILES AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY I MIGHT NOT BE HERE WRITING THIS REPORT. GET IT TOGETHER SUBARU, NOT FEELING THE LOVE!!
WITH THE CAR COMPLETELY WARMED UP, EITHER A HOT DAY OR A COLD DAY, DOESN'T MATTER, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE FOR A COUPLE SECONDS WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC AFTER HAVING PARKED FOR A FEW MINUTES. IN OTHER WORDS, AFTER MAKING A STOP SOMEWHERE AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF, AND THEN STARTING IT UP AGAIN AND TRAVELING A BLOCK OR SO, SUDDENLY THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. YOU MAY BE ENTERING TRAFFIC FLOW AND NEED TO SPEED UP, AND IT WON'T GO. THE DEALER STONEWALLS BY SAYING THE ISSUE CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AND THEREFORE IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
I OWN A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER WITH EYESIGHT, STARLINK, AND THE ALL-WEATHER PACKAGE (HEATED SEATS, MIRRORS, AND WINDSHIELD-WIPER DE-ICER). I LOVE MOST ASPECTS OF MY SUBARU, HOWEVER, THE TOUCHSCREEN ON THE COUNSEL HAS AN ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLY BLINDING GLARE WHEN THE MOONROOF COVER IS OPEN TO LIGHT. I HAD TO GET A PIECE OF FELT TO PUT OVER THE SCREEN SO THAT WHEN I WANT TO OPEN THE MOONROOF I AM ABLE TO COVER THE TOUCHSCREEN GLASS TO PREVENT A WRECK FROM HAVING LOST ROAD VISIBILITY! I HAVE SINCE VISITED OTHER VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR TOUCHSCREENS - THESE MANUFACTURER MAKE/MODEL TOUCHSCREENS DO NOT HAVE ANY GLARE AT ALL! WHAT'S UP WITH SUBARU NOT CORRECTING THIS INCREDIBLE SAFETY FLAW? BY THE WAY, DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH AN "ANTI GLARE SCREEN COVER". IT IS DIFFICULT TO APPLY CORRECTLY AND WHEN ON IT JUST BARELY CUTS DOWN ON THE MISERABLE GLARE. IN ADDITION, THE WINTER WEATHER CAUSES THE APPLICATION (COVER) TO WARP AND BECOME QUITE FOGGY AND UGLY. IT APPEARS THAT THE TOUCHSCREEN SUN GLARE SAFETY ISSUE IS ACROSS MULTIPLE SUBARU MODELS. HTTP://WWW.SUBARUOUTBACK.ORG/FORUMS/138-GEN-5-2015-PRESENT/163825-GLARE-REFLECTION-INFOTAINMENT-UNIT-5.HTML

KLAMATH FALLS SUBARU IN KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON 97603 WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF THERE IS A CUSHION ON THE SEAT. THIS WAS NOT EXPLAINED TO ME UNTIL AFTER I COMPLAINED AND I WAS THEN TOLD THAT I SHOULD HAVE READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL AFTER THE CAR'S PURCHASE AND EVEN THEN I WOULD HAVE HAD TO KNOW THAT MY ARTHRITIS WAS GOING TO GET SEVERE ENOUGH TO NEED A CUSHION. THE NON-DEPLOYMENT OF MY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS VERY DANGEROUS. *JS THE CONSUMER STATED THE ALSO WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE PASSENGER SITS IN THE SEAT WHILE WET. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED AN UPDATE. *JS
SUBARU MANUFACTURED VENTILATION SYSTEM WITHOUT PROVISION TO SCREEN RODENTS FROM ENTERING CABIN AND PERMITTING THEM TO INFEST THE INTERIOR TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNUSABLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS WILLING TO CHARGE US TO CLEAN UP THE MESS, BUT WOULD NOT MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM, SO THE PROBLEM REPEATS ITSELF. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, IT HAS COME TO LIGHT THAT SUBARU MANUFACTURED PLASTIC COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WITH SOY, WHICH ACTS AS AN ATTRACTANT TO THE RODENTS. SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED ZERO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT, WHICH WE FEEL THEY SHOULD RESOLVE DUE TO THE RELATIVELY LOW COST TO SOLVE AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM. WE EVENTUALLY SCREENED OFF ALL THE OPENINGS OURSELVES, AS WELL AS CLEANED UP THE MESS FROM THE INFESTATION WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO, LEAVING THE REST FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO CLEAN TWICE, FOR WHICH WE HAD TO PAY DEARLY.
KEEP GETTING MESSAGE "SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE CHECKED" WHILE DRIVING. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF WHEN MESSAGE DISPLAYS. WHEN THE MESSAGE COMES UP, IT WILL STAY FOR A FEW HOURS TO A FEW DAYS. MY PASSENGER IS LEFT WITHOUT PROTECTION IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.
THE COMPANY PROVIDED (EXTRA COST) RUBBER FLOOR MATS ARE VERY DANGEROUS AND SLIPPERY. FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON THE GRID LINES RUN FRONT TO BACK (NOT CROSSWISE OR DIAGONAL), SO WHEN FLOOR MATS ARE WET (RAIN, SNOW OCCUR OFTEN HERE) DRIVER'S FEET SLIP WHICH IS DANGEROUS WITH GAS AND BRAKING PEDALS.
MY SUBARU HAS EXPERIENCED A MALFUNCTION OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM SINCE JULY OF 2017. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT IN 2016, JOSEPH SUBARU IN FLORENCE, KY ON AUGUST 2, 2017. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED A SWITCH MALFUNCTION UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME THAT THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE SCHEDULED FOR REPAIR. AFTER THREE WEEKS WITH NO RESPONSE, I CALLED JOSEPH SUBARU TO ASK ABOUT THE STATUS. HE ASSURED ME ME THAT THE PART HAD BEEN ORDERED ON AUGUST 2 AND THAT I COULD EXPECT THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE AFTER ONE MONTH. THE PART WAS NEVER MADE AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA ON OCTOBER 2, 2017 TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT. I GOT NO RESPONSE. I CONTACTED SUBARU ELECTRONICALLY ON OCTOBER 23, 2017. I RECEIVED A CLAIM NUMBER SR #:1-27120984562. IT IS NOW DECEMBER 6, 2017 AND I HAVE RECEIVED NO REPAIR AND NO CLARIFICATION. NO ONE HAS MADE ANY EFFORT TO CORRECT THE FAULT. IT IS A HAZARD TO ME AND ANY RIDERS IN MY VEHICLE.
MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT GO ON AND OFF TO SIGNAL IF THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED OR NOT. DEALER DIAGNOSIS IS THAT THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT IS BAD. THE REPLACEMENT PART AND LABOR IS OVER $1000 BECAUSE IT IS INTEGRATED INTO THE SEAT. I CALLED SUBARU AND THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR HALF, HOWEVER THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SOLUTION. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM ON SUCH A NEW CAR SHOULD BE FULLY FUNCTIONING AND SUBARU SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH A PROBLEM AS THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT SINCE THEY MADE IT SO EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE DUE TO THE INTEGRATION INTO THE SEAT, YOU CAN'T JUST REPLACE THAT ONE SENSOR.
I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR 1.5 YEARS AND IT'S ALREADY STALLED TWICE TIMES. BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY CAR JUST STARTED TO RAPIDLY DECREASE SPEED. BOTH TIMES, I MY GAS METER SAID THAT I HAD OVER 50 MILES OF GAS LEFT IN MY CAR. ITS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING BECAUSE WHEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF, I HAVE ABOUT TWO MINUTE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE IT'S COMPLETELY DEAD.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON TO SIGNAL THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT WORKING. IT GOES OFF AND ON AT WILL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES NOW AND FINALLY THEY THINK THEY KNOW WHAT IS WRONG, BUT WILL NOT HAVE THE PART TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE. THE BLUETOOTH IS SO BAD THAT THE PEOPLE I TALK TO CANNOT HEAR ME. BIG SAFETY CONCERNS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S POWER SEIZED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FITZGERALD TOYOTA (907 N FREDERICK AVE, GAITHERSBURG, MD 20879) WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY ACCIDENT INVOLVED HITTING A TREE HEAD-ON TRAVELING AT LEAST 10-15 MPH. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT AT LEAST 3 AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED (SIDE CURTAIN, STEERING, AND DASH FOR KNEES) PREVENTING ME FROM HITTING MY HEAD.
FRONT END TOTAL COLLISION TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL SECTION OF A MAIN STREET. HIT, AND BROKE, A TELEPHONE POLE. CAR DEEMED TOTALED. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE IN GARAGE, ON LEVEL WITH WHEELS STRAIGHT. TOWED TO WAGNER DEALERSHIP WHO AGREED IT WAS MALFUNCTIONING. EXTENDED MANIPULATION FREED IT. HOW DO I FIX THIS?
I WAS PARKING MY CAR. I HAD THE BRAKE APPLIED AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN OVER A PARKING BARRIER, OVER A 1.5' STONE BARRIER, UP A SMALL GRADE AND INTO AND PARTIALLY THRU A CONCRETE PATIO WALL. THE CAR'S GEARSHIFT WAS IN PARK. I HAD TO MOVE IT BACK TO REVERSE TO GET IT BACK INTO THE PARKING SPACE. AND EVEN THOUGH THE IMPACT WAS SUBSTANTIAL THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHEN I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. IT WENT OVER AN EMBANKMENT AND CRASHED NOSE FIRST INTO THE PARKING LOT BELOW.
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO EXCESSIVE WEAR ON VEHICLE TIRES. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE OUTER EDGES OF THE VEHICLE'S TIRES WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN OUT IN LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. *JS
WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN THE VEHICLE WILL BOG DOWN AND IT WILL NOT MOVE. THE SITUATION LAST ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND DURING THIS TIME I AM UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY TO NONE PER DAY. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY SERVICE REP AND HIS ANSWER WAS THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR ABOUT THE LAST 12 MONTHS. THE LAST INSTANCE WAS THE DATE SELECTED ON THE CALENDAR.

I'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS (OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2016) - WHILE DRIVING THE CAR I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, AND GOING APPX. 75 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE, DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS STRAIGHT ON FLAT INTERSTATE, THE RPM'S ALL OF A SUDDEN SHOOT UP AND IT FEELS LIKE MY CAR FALLS OUT OF GEAR. THE CAR ESSENTIALLY SHUTS DOWN AND FAILS TO ACCELERATE AND SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY, WHILE TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE. WE HAVE TO QUICKLY PULL OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID BEING HIT. SEVERAL LIGHTS SHOW ON THE DASH (HAVE PHOTO) AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. WE HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY AND TURN IT BACK ON - NO RESPONSE TO ACCELERATION OR ANYTHING. IT DID NOT RESPOND UNTIL THE 2ND TIME TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON. UPON BRINGING TO DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PULL ANY CODES OR DUPLICATE THE ERROR (EITHER TIME). THEY ALSO HAD A SUBARU FIELD ENGINEER LOOK AT IT AND FOUND NOTHING. I AM CONTINUOUSLY SENT AWAY WITHOUT A SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO "CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE" IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, WHICH PUTS MYSELF AND OTHERS IN SERIOUS DANGER. THE MOST RECENT TIME THEY PUT 300 MILES ON IT AND FOUND THAT IT "FELL OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL", BUT AREN'T OFFERING TO FIX IT AND DIDN'T ACTUALLY DUPLICATE THE SAME ERROR AS I HAD. I'M AFRAID I'M GOING TO GET INTO A SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT AND HURT MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS. IT FEELS LIKE SUBARU (OR DEALER) ISN'T OWNING UP TO THIS PROBLEM OR POSSIBLY TRYING TO COVER IT UP TO KEEP THEIR GOOD SAFETY RATINGS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT I'M "THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WHOLE UNITED STATES REPORTING THIS ISSUE", WHICH I FIND VERY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE.
DRIVER WAS PARKING FRONT FIRST INTO A PARKING SPOT, TRAVELING STRAIGHT FORWARD AT LESS THAN 5 MPH. WHEN THE 2016 SUBARU FORESTER REACHED THE PROPER PARKING LOCATION, THE DRIVER, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER FROM D TO P. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE REV'D AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD, OVER THE PARKING CONCRETE BLOCK, OVER A SMALL BUSH AND INTO THE WINDOW WALL OF THE ADJACENT CONDO. DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE WALL, AND RIGHT HAND SIDE FRONT OF VEHICLE. DRIVER STATED THAT HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE HIS FOOT WAS ALREADY ON THE BRAKE. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED.
SOFT BRAKES. HAD TO APPLY BRAKE AHEAD OF TIME TO STOP IN THE SIGNAL. SLOW TRAFFIC SAME ISSUE EVERY TIME YOU APPLY BRAKE YOU WILL BE SCARED IF IT WILL STOP. IT WILL NOT SLOWDOWN THE CAR IN THE TURNS. STREET CITIES AND SLOW TRAFFICS AND EXIT FROM HIGHWAY
WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 25 MPH IN MILD TO MODERATE WINTER CONDITIONS, THE REAR END IS FISHTAILING AND PUSHING THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. MY FAMILY AND I WERE NEARLY THROWN INTO A DITCH SEVERAL TIMES IN A 2 MILE EXCURSION ON THE INTERSTATE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. EVEN AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING IS UNRESPONSIVE TO THE FORCE THAT FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE MAXIMUM SPEED AT WHICH WE COULD KEEP THE VEHICLE SOMEWHAT UNDER CONTROL WAS AROUND 25-30 MPH WHICH CAUSED US TO BE ANOTHER TYPE HAZARD ON THE INTERSTATE. DURING CITY DRIVING, THIS VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN SINGLE LANE PRESENCE IN MILD TO MODERATE WINTER CONDITIONS. TIRE PRESSURE WAS EQUAL ON ALL 4 WHEELS. VEHICLE WAS WITHIN ALIGNMENT SPECS. THE DEALER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM (4 OTHER CARS IN THE SAME DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME ISSUE) AND STATES THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO MAKE A DIAGNOSIS. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR 3 WEEKS AS IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE SUBARU CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE HAS SUGGESTED THAT WE "TRY" SEVERAL PROPOSED SOLUTIONS (TO A PROBLEM WHICH THEY CANNOT IDENTIFY) AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. IT IS EXTREMELY IRRESPONSIBLE FOR SUBARU TO INSIST THAT MY FAMILY AND I BE USED AS AN EXPERIMENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIGURE OUT WHY THEIR PRODUCT PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN GRAVE DANGER. *TR
2016 SUBARU FORESTER WAS RATED BY INSURANCE INST FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY AS POOR FOR HEADLIGHTS. HAVING DRIVEN ON DARK COUNTRY ROADS I CAN AGREE. HEADLIGHTS ON PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT UP RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD, DRIVER'S SIDE HAS FOCAL POINT OF LESS THAN 100FT. GOING DOWNHILL, A DARK LINE BLOCKS ALL LIGHT SO THAT SEEING ROAD AHEAD IS VERY DIFFICULT. HIGH BEAMS ARE A BIT BETTER, MORE OF SURROUNDING COUNTRY SIDE LIT UP; DOWN-RANGE LIGHTING MIGHT HAVE FOCAL POINT OF 200/250 FEET, WELL BELOW IIHS STANDARDS. DEALER SAYS LIGHTS ARE PROPERLY AIMED. SUBARU, NEW JERSEY, CONTACTED. THEY CLAIM NO KNOWLEDGE OF IIHS REVIEW AND MY COMPLAINT WAS TREATED AS IT KINDA SUCKS TO BE YOU. *TR
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE EYESIGHT SYSTEM PROBLEMS, FRONTAL COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED OCCASIONALLY, THE SYSTEM WOULD SHUT DOWN AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED THE APPROPRIATE WARNING LIGHTS. THE SYSTEM WOULD RE-START ON ITS OWN ANYWHERE FROM IMMEDIATELY TO FIVE MINUTES AFTER FAILURE. WHILE THE SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE, THE FRONTAL COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. IF HE ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, IT WOULD DISENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD RESPOND BY SLOWING DOWN. *JB
AT LOW SPEED (UNDER 15 MPH) A HESITATION OCCURS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE ACCELERATION POWER FOR AS LONG AS 3 OR 4 SECONDS. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OCCURRING ONLY 8 TIMES IN THREE MONTHS. PROBLEM ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION WHILE TURNING LEFT BEFORE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LATER RECURRENCES PRODUCED THE SAME PROBLEM DURING RIGHT TURNS ALSO. WE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND PURCHASED A 2017 OF THE SAME MODEL HOPING THIS PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED.
WE NOTICED A TINY CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD ONE DAY. WE DID NOT SEE OR HEAR IT HAPPEN AND IT WAS TOO SMALL TO REPAIR (NO BUBBLE TO FILL), SO WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LEAVE IT ALONE AND HOPE IT DIDN'T SPREAD. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE WEATHER CHANGED AND IT BECAME A 2FT LONG CRACK ACROSS THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD COVER IT ONLY IF THE CRACK ORIGINATED FROM THE BOTTOM, NOT FROM A ROCK IN THE MIDDLE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM OF WEAK GLASS THAT EASILY CHIPS AND THEN CRACKS IS WIDESPREAD WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS CLEARLY RELATED TO THE GLASS HEATER, WHICH HEATS THE BOTTOM BUT NOT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE COMBINATION OF WEAK GLASS UNDER TENSION AND DIFFERENTIAL HEATING IS A DESIGN FLAW FOR WHICH THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THERE IS A 3 TO 4 SECOND LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION BETWEEN SHIFTING AND GETTING POWER TO THE WHEELS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU BACK OUT OF YOUR DRIVEWAY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE ON A BUSY STREET (AS WE DO). I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL FOR THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION (CVT) AND THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT IT. THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A LEVEL SURFACE. I STARTED THE CAR, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE, PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, RELEASE THE BRAKE. THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS RATHER QUICKLY. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, RELEASED IT AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING FORWARDS. THE CAR WAS DEFINITELY IN DRIVE, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE BACKWARDS.
"TAKATA RECALL" VEHICLE ACCELLERATED, BRAKES DID NOT STOP VEHICLE, ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE INJURING MY WIFE, PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY & PSYCHOLOGICALLY. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WIFE WAS TRYING TO PARK, WHEN VEHICLE SPED UP AND HER BRAKING HAD NO EFFECT AND SHE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE.
CAR HAS 15000 MILES-USES ONE QUART OF OIL EVERY 2000 MILES-THIS MUCH OIL CONSUMPTION INDICATES A SERIOUS PROBLEM. CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 03/05/2016.
THE TAILGATE ON MY 2016 FORESTER IS SO LOW WHEN OPENED THAT I HIT MY HEAD ON IT EVERY TIME I REACH INTO THE CAR. I AM 6 FEET TALL. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH MY TAILGATE. I HAD AN EARLIER MODEL FORESTER WHERE THIS WAS NOT AN ISSUE. THE SUBARU DEALERS I COMPLAINED TO SAID THAT THE HINGES WERE DESIGNED SO THAT A LONGER SHOCK ABSORBER OR OTHER AFTER-MARKET FIX WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED UNTIL THE MODEL DESIGN WAS CHANGED. THIS IS DANGEROUS!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, IT ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT ONLY WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAD NEVER BEFORE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,800.
APPARENT DEFECTIVE VALVES ON YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER G91-F STOCK TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE NEW VEHICLE. CAR WITH ONLY 7,626 MILES, MINIMAL TREAD WEAR, TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY @ 65MPH LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR COMES ON, AND ~ 5 SEC LATER THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE JUST COMPLETELY SHREDDING. OUTSIDE WALL COMPLETELY SEPARATING AND TIRE VALVE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. DRIVEN MINI SPARE TO LOCAL FIRESTONE TIRE CENTER. TOLD TO KEEP THE TIRE AS EVIDENCE, NO PUNCTURE NOTED. NOT ONE MONTH LATER, LOW PRESSURE LIGHT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING @ 65MPH ON ANOTHER HIGHWAY, THIS TIME THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE NOW WITH A LEAK. CHECKED AND STOPPED MULTIPLE TIMES TO ENSURE ONLY A SLOW LEAK. ABLE TO BE SEEN AT A NEARBY COSTCO TIRE CENTER AND DIAGNOSED WITH A SLOW LEAK COMING FROM THE TIRE VALVE. 2 DIFFERENT STOCK YOKOHAMA TIRES BOTH WITH VERY LOW MILES, ONE WITH DEVASTATING BLOW OUT APPARENTLY OCCURRING ABOUT THE TIRE VALVE, THE SECOND TIRE WITH A SLOW DEFECTIVE VALVE LEAK. NO PUNCTURES NOTED WHEN EXAMINED AT EITHER TIRE CENTER.
WHEN YOU GO FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THERE IS A LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION. OR IF YOU GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE ITS THE SAME. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU RELY ON YOUR CAR MOVING WHEN YOU SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE (E.G., WHEN YOU BACK OUT OF YOUR DRIVEWAY). WE WENT TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT HE ALSO SAID IT WAS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS TO ME IS VERY DANGEROUS.
WE GOT OUR 2016 SUBARU FORESTER PREMIUM 2.5I FROM BAY RIDGE DEALER IN BROOKLYN ON JUNE 7,2016.
I OWN A THREE-MONTH OLD 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BREATHING ISSUES SINCE THE WEATHER HAS TURNED HOT. BROUGHT THE CAR INTO DEALER BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS MOLD. THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID NO MOLD FOUND. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT CAN BE. I BELIEVE SOMETHING IN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR IS CAUSING AN ALLERGIC REACTION. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST NEW CAR AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS REACTION BEFORE, HOWEVER, THIS IS MY FIRST NEW SUBARU.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER SOME TIME. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A COMPUTER GLITCH, BUT WAS UNABLE TO SUGGEST OR PERFORM ANY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.
WHEN YOU GO FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THERE IS A LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION. OR IF YOU GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE ITS THE SAME. IF YOUR ON AN INCLINE IT MAKES YOU HIT THE GAS TO ACCELERATE. AND IF YOU WERE TO PULL A TRAILER AND YOU ARE ON A SMALL HILL IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. WE ONLY HAVE 3700 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU CORP AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE DEALER, WHICH I DID. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT HE ALSO SAID IT WAS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS TO ME IS VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO FIX. THE DEALER ASKED HOW COME I HADN'T NOTICED THIS WHEN WE FIRST TRIED THE VEHICLE. AS I TOLD HIM ITS MY WIFES CAR AND I DRIVE MY OWN VEHICLE AND I DIDN'T NOTICE IT TILL SHE TOLD ME TO TRY IT OUT. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BUY A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER UNTIL THEY HAVE TRIED IT FOR A WHILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE STALLED, MISFIRED, AND HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000.
MY CAR WAS PARKED AND THE WINDOW SUDDENLY SHATTERED FOR NO REASON. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IT WAS ONLY 76 DEGREES AND SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. NOW THERE IS GLASS ALL INSIDE MY DOOR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. I THINK IT MUST HAVE BEEN A DEFECTED WINDOW. I HAVE HAD MY CAR PARKED AT WORK ON HOTTER DAYS SUCH AS 97 DEGREES WITH NO PROBLEM. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND MY FIRST SUMMER OWNING IT AND I HAVE TO HAVE THIS OCCUR. I HAVE PICTURES BUT HAD TAKEN THEM WITH MY PHONE CAMERA. IF NEEDED I CAN SEND THEM TO A WEBSITE FROM MY PHONE.
NON-TURBO MODEL STALLS IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. FIRST AIR CONDITIONER SHUTS OFF, ALONG WITH ELECTRICAL, THEN ENGINE STALLS. NOTHING UNUSUAL PRIOR TO SHUTTING OFF. VEHICLE BECOMES NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL WITH LIMITED BRAKING AND STEERING. CAR WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY RE-START. THIS HAS OCCURRED SIX TIMES SINCE NEW; DEALER HAS NOT FIXED PROBLEM, BUT HAS SEEN VIDEO OF THE CAR STALLING IN TRAFFIC THAT MY WIFE TOOK WHILE I WAS DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS IN GEAR, MOVING AT LOW TO MODERATE SPEED EACH TIME, WITH AC OPERATING AND NO OTHER ACCESSORIES OR UNUSUAL SITUATIONS.
THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS, MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALL THREE TIMES THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS TRAVELING WITH 1/4 OR LESS OF GAS (BUT THESE INCIDENTS DID NOT OCCUR DUE TO HAVING RUN OUT OF GAS). ALL THREE TIMES I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE OR DRIVE UPHILL. THE VEHICLE STALLED ALL TIMES AT AROUND 65-75 MPH OF SPEED, CAUSING ME GREAT CONCERN WHEN I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER ON HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAYS SUCH AS CT ROUTE 84 AND VT ROUTE 91. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO BERTERA SUBARU IN HARTFORD, CT, WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT, AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX MY ISSUE UNTIL IT HAPPENED MORE CONSISTENTLY. I MENTIONED RECALL WTA-62 AND WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. RECALL WQZ-61 WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE.
AFTER ABOUT 2 INCHES OF WET SNOW MY WIFE WAS DRIVING UP A SLOPED STREET. SHE CAME TO AN AREA WHERE SHE COULD SEE 2 CARS WAITING AFTER A COLLISION. SHE STOPPED. ANOTHER CAR STOPPER BEHIND HER. A POLICE CAR PASSED THE CAR PARKED BEHIND MY WIFE. THE POLICE CAR BUMPED THE CAR PARKED BEHIND MY WIFE AND PARKED. MY WIFE TRIED TO TURN AROUND. AS SHE DID HER CAR LOST TRACTION AND SLID INTO THE PARKED POLICE CAR. THERE WAS NO VISUAL DAMAGE TO MY WIFE'S CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE WAS ANY DAMAGE TO THE POLICE CAR. A REPORT STILL HAD TO BE FILED EVIDENTLY BECAUSE IT WAS A POLICE CAR. LATER I CHECKED THE RATING ON THE TIRES. PER THE RATINGS GIVEN IN TIRE RACK THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN DETERMINED TO BE UNSUITABLE FOR USE ON ICE.
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB AND MEDIAN HEADING TOWARDS A BUILDING. ALL THE WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE AND I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID BUILDING AND THE CAR STOPPED. TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE.
MY SISTER AND I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON MAR. 25, 2016. ON APRIL 6, 2016 THE CAR STALLED ON HER TWICE. SHE WAS COMING OUT OF A STORE PARKING LOT, AND CROSSED THE INTERSECTION TURNING LEFT AND THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN THE INTERSECTION ON THE BROKEN YELLOW LINES. SHE HAD TO PUT HER CAR ON 'PARK' AND RESTART. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED THE SAME WAY, COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT BUT DIDN'T REACH THE CENTER OF THE STREET, AND STALLED ON THE FAST LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SHE DID THE SAME, PUT THE CAR IN 'PARK' AND RESTARTED. I THEN TOOK HER CAR TO THE DEALER ON THURSDAY NIGHT 4/7/16 AND LEFT THE CAR THERE WITH 382 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID TELL ME THAT THEY DID HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT SIMILAR....SOME PEOPLE WERE TEST DRIVING A FORRESTER AND AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY FOUND THAT A FUEL LINE WAS CRINKLED. SHE SAID, I HOPE THIS WASN'T THE CAR. THEY DID CHECK THE CAR WITH A LAPTOP, BUT DROVE IT FOR ONLY 1 OR 1-1/2 MILES AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I BROUGHT THE CAR HOME AND HAVE 385 MILES ON IT NOW. MY CONCERN IS, THAT I DON'T WANT MY SISTER TO BE IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION, SHE JUST RECENT LOST HER HUSBAND OF 57 YEARS, AND I CONVINCED HER TO TRADE IN HER MINIVAN FOR A SMALLER SAFER VEHICLE.
2016 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE INSTRUMENT PANEL IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE ON SUNNY DAYS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED NO ONE AT THE DEALER, COULD TELL HIM WHERE THE SENSOR WAS THAT REGISTERED THE AMBIENT LIGHT TO DIM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. *JB
THE BASE MODEL STEEL WHEEL HAS A TROUGH RUNNING AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL, TWO INCHES WIDE AND ONE INCH DEEP. SNOW PACKS INTO THE WHEELS, MELTS, AND OVERNIGHT THE WATER THAT ACCUMULATES IN THE TROUGH AT THE BASE OF THE WHEEL FREEZES SOLIDLY. IT WILL NOT BREAK LOOSE. THIS ICE BLOCK IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A VERY LARGE WHEEL BALANCE WEIGHT. THE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH. THIS REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT IMMEDIATE SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A LONG TERM SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE LIKELY DAMAGE TO THE ALIGNMENT AND FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN SIX WEEKS. THE DEALER'S RESPONSE WAS TO TAKE IT TO CAR WASH. I WROTE SUBARU OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THEY WILL PASS MY EXPERIENCE ON TO NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT.
SUBARU EYESIGHT TECHNOLOGY THAT PREVENTS ACCIDENTS AND SAVE LIVES IS NOT OFFERED ON SUBARU FORESTER BASIC MODEL - SUBARU CREATED 2 CLASSES OF CITIZENS - WHO CAN AFFORD EXPENSIVE PREMIUM TRIMS OF SUBARU FORESTER (YOU CAN HAVE LIFE SAVING TECHNOLOGY) AND THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD ONLY BASIC TRIM (YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE YOUR CAR TO BE EQUIPMENT WITH LIFE SAVING EYESIGHT TECHNOLOGY - NO MONEY - DIE THEN). THE REASON - MONEY GRABBING! SUBARU WANTS TO FORCE BUYERS TO BUY MORE EXPENSIVE TRIMS. BUT THIS TECHNOLOGY IS MOST NEEDED FOR PARENTS (WHO CAN BE DISTRACTED BY I.E. CHOKING CHILD) AND PARENTS USUALLY HAVE A LOT OF EXPENSES AND CANNOT AFFORD EXPENSIVE TRIMS. THIS MONEY GRABBING DISCRIMINATION IS CRIMINAL AND KILLS CHILDREN! I SEE A LOT OF ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY PARENTS DISTRACTED BY CHILDREN - HOW MANY CHILDREN HAVE TO DIE BECAUSE SUBARU WANTS TO GRAB MORE MONEY AND DO NOT OFFER LIFE SAVING EYESIGHT ON BASIC TRIM OF SUBARU FORESTER. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL BE WRITING TO MEMBERS OF CONGRESS (I WANT CONGRESS TO HAVE A HEARING ON THAT CRIMINAL DISCRIMINATION THAT KILLS CHILDREN) AND YOUR ACTION TAKEN WILL BE INCLUDED IN THAT HEARING.

EYESIGHT SYSTEM DID NOT PICK UP VEHICLE IN FROMT OF CAR AND PROCEED TO DRIVE STRAIGHT TOWARD AT 70MPH, I HAD TO BRAKE THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE DAY. DEALER SAID THEY TESTED CAR AND SYSTEM WAS WORKING FINE. THE SYSTEM DID NOT DETECT THE LARGE VEHICLE IN FRONT.
IN A CLOSED PARKING LOT, I WAS GETTING READY TO PARK IN A SPACE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, I CUT THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THEN EASED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO MANEUVER INTO THE PARKING SPOT. I PUSHED THE BRAKE AGAIN IN PREPARATION TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS AND FINISH PARKING, NO SPEED REGISTERING ON THE GAUGE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND JUMPED. I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND SLAMMED IT BACK DOWN ON THE BRAKE ATTEMPTING TO HALT THE VEHICLE. INSTEAD, WITH MY FOOT STILL FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGAIN, AND FASTER, RIGHT INTO A WALL. I HAD BEEN UNABLE TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS, SO THE IMPACT WAS NOT HEAD-ON, BUT RATHER CONTINUING THE RIGHT-TURN'S ANGLE, AND IMPACT OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, FRONT-END. 2 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITH A SLIGHT DELAY, CAUSING SEVERE BRUISING TO MY LEGS WHICH AFFECT MY WALKING, AND MUSCLE TEARS CAUSING SEVERE NECK AND SPINE PAIN. THOUGH I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT DURING THE COLLISION, IT RETRACTED WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR, AND WE WERE UNABLE TO DISLODGE IT WHEN WE HAD TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FOR TOWING. TO REITERATE, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE AT MINIMAL SPEED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY PRESSING THE BRAKE.
VEHICLE BEGINS TO ACCELERATE FROM PARKING LOT INTO TRAFFIC, BUT THEN GAS PEDAL HITS A "DEAD SPOT". GAS PEDAL IS NON-RESPONSIVE. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE UNTIL CONTINUALLY DEPRESSING GAS PEDAL 3/4 WAY TO FLOOR BOARD. THEN IT SURGES AHEAD! PROBLEM IS REPEATABLE AND IN MY OPINION VERY DANGEROUS. 1. PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AND UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO TRAFFIC SPEED. 2. SUDDEN, UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. I CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID IT'S NORMAL. HAVE CONTACTED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL REVISIT MY COMPLAINT.
CAR HAS 11,000 MILES, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY USING THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 MPH WITH THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON (FEET NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL OR BRAKE) THE CAR ENGINE RPM'S BEGAN INCREASING TILL IT REACHED THE REV LIMITER. AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE RPM BEGAN REVVING HIGH, THE CAR BEGAN TO COAST AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. BUT THE GEAR SHIFT REMAINED IN DRIVE. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF THE ENGINE REVVING AS HIGH AS IT COULD, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND STEER OFF TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE. FIRST TIME 10/8/15 THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER I COASTED TO A STOP AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE SUBARU DEALER. THEY HOOKED THE CAR UP TO THEIR COMPUTER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND NO ERROR CODES. SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON 1/2/16 AFTER STOPPING ON THE SHOULDER I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME WITHOUT USING CRUISE CONTROL. THE CAR IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER TEST THIS FRIDAY 1/8/16. THIS WHOLE PROCESS PROBABLY TAKES ABOUT 30 SECOND OR SO. BUT ITS VERY DANGEROUS. ITS ALMOST AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SOME HOW NOT ENGAGED. SINCE THE CRUISE IS SET AT 65 MPH IT TRIES TO INCREASES ENGINE RPM TO MAINTAIN 65 MPH SPEED BUT THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGED SO CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE. CRUISE SEES CAR SLOWING DOWN SO SPEEDS UP THE ENGINE TO COMPENSATE. CARS STILL DOESN'T SPEED UP. EVENTUALLY ENGINE RPM MAXES OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND TURNS ITSELF OFF. I FEEL LIKE THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE TRANSMISSION MOST LIKELY OR POSSIBLY THE CRUISE CONTROL. I ALSO NOTICE WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IT TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE. TO THE POINT THAT I ROLL BACK A FEW FEET.
EYESIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL INTERMITTENT SHUTDOWN AND RESTART. ON AN INCREASINGLY FREQUENT BASIS, WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL AND EYESIGHT ARE ENGAGED, BOTH WILL DISABLE AND CAN BE A FEW SECONDS TO MINUTES BEFORE THE EYESIGHT RE-ENABLES AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CAN MANUALLY BE RE-ENGAGED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, VEHICLE GOES FROM AUTO-DRIVE TO MANUAL-DRIVE. ALSO, AN E1 ERROR APPEARED ON THE ODOMETER DISPLAY.
THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE DRIVER STOPPED TO MAKE A U-TURN THEN SLOWLY STARTED TO TAKE HER FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHILE MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO THE RIGHT (OPPOSITE DIRECTION). THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY AFTER COLLIDING INTO A STREET POLE.
MODELS W/ MANUAL CLIMITE CONTROL: VERY HARD TO SEE SETTINGS, ESPECIALLY IN DAY TIME, AND IF NEED TO ADJUST WHILE DRIVING SUCH AS TO DE-FOG WINDOWS, MAY RESULT IN DRIVING OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WRECKING.
