Leaking coolant due to thermostat housing breaking
If I try to refill the gas tank, it will spill the gas back at me. And when I got home it was pouring gas to the floor. I’ve read is the suction pump but for some reason my car is not listed on this recall and is happening to me now. Is very dangerous because is gasoline pouring in the ground plus I can’t put any more gasoline in the tank. It just won’t let me. I have videos of the problem. Tried contacting VW dealers but they told me that there’s no recall on this for my vehicle. Online there’s a recall for this exact same problem and my car has it. I don’t want my car to catch fire or something.
While parked the gas tank started leaking gas from rear passenger-side wheel well.
EPC light illuminated on dash board. Vehicle was taken to dealer and it was determined that the thermostat housing had failed. Would have caused the vehicle to overheat had it been driven for any length of time with the failure
Thermostat housing failure. Leaking coolant. Yes it is available for inspection. The dealer has confirmed this is not an uncommon problem, and indicated this can be cause by the seal swelling (Dirito Bros dealer, CA BAR Reg# 257857). This issue was found by an independent mechanic during a routine oil change on 10/12/21 There is a warning lamp for low coolant, which is the first indicator, and occurred around Sept- 2021.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. "Volkswagen" is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, GTI, Audi A3 sedan and A3 Cabriolet vehicles. Due to a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions "EVAP" system. As fuel accumulates in the EVAP system, it may leak out through the charcoal canister filter element. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. VW is not honoring the recall in my vehicle because it notes that my VIN number is not associated with the defected part, but this is the same issue that happened to my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, she had difficulty placing gas into the fuel tank as fuel would spill out during fill up. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V647000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to a dealer who informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact was then referred to the manufacturer who also confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.
The thermostat housing and water pump are leaking due to a known manufacturing defect. I had the water pump and thermostat housing replaced around 65,000 miles from an independent Volkswagen mechanic. He informed me that it appears the water pump had been replaced prior to my ownership of the vehicle. (41,000 miles). Again, I have to replace the thermostat housing and water pump, for a leak. The failure causes a leak in the pressurized cooling system. The leak is small while parked so there is no noticeable puddle but as the system warms up, the leak happens faster. Because of this issue, I have had multiple warning messages while driving, low coolant level, check engine light, and EPC (Electronic Power Control, which disables activate cruise control and front collision detection systems). On multiple occasions, I was stranded waiting on help because of the failure. As stated, this is a known issue from the manufacturer, as they have had at least 7 revisions to the part. The manufacturer is currently on revision “M”, I am only aware of revisions “F, G, H, J, K, L” and the current revision “M”. As previously stated, this is the second time I personally have had to pay out of pocket for this repair.
The gear shifter inside vehicle has a decorative aluminum trim that when you slide your hand in center cubby over time tends to separate. It creates sharp edges and I cut my hand while retrieving something from center console cubby.
SUNROOF IS LEAKING
2016 VW GOLF GTI MK7 ENGINE COOLANT BEGAN TO SLOWLY LEAK FROM THERMOSTAT HOUSING SEAL AT 25,000 MILES. DEALER REPLACED HOUSING WITH REV M PART JUST BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. HAS THIS EVERY 25K MILE PROBLEM BEEN RESOLVED YET?
THE CAR ON IS LEAKING GASOLINE FROM BACK OF THE GAS TANK, THE CAR VAS IN MOTION AND I SMELL GASOLINE FROM MY CAR AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE BECAUSE IS NEAR THE WHEEL.
FAILURE OF THERMOSTAT HOUSING CAUSING COOLANT LEAK AND WATER PUMP FAILURE.
CAR HAS A WATER LEAK IN THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SINCE NEW. VWOA HAS DONE THE TSB'S BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. LEAK IS AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE A PILLAR, SUNVISER AND DOME LIGHT.
FAILED THERMOSTAT HOUSING/COOLANT LOSS. ACTIVE COOLANT LEAK FROM WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING AT 35,956 MILES. DEALER REPLACED THERMOSTAT ASSEMBLY, WATER PUMP, UNION.
THE SUCTION PUMP (PART 5Q0-201-029) IN THE EVAP EMISSION CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE FAILED ON FEBRUARY 7 2021 CAUSING FUEL TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AND THEN INTO THE PURGE VALVE. THIS LED TO HEAVY FUEL SMELL IN MY VEHICLE AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF SUCTION PUMP, CHARCOAL CANISTER AND PURGE VALVE. NOTE THAT THIS FAILURE WITH EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION WAS IDENTIFIED AS PART OF THE SAFETY RECALL 20Y6 (HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/RCL/2016/RCRIT-16V647-1179.PDF) ISSUED BY NHSTA ON OCTOBER 13 2016 AND MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THIS RECALL. IT WAS CLAIMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS FIXED ON MY VEHICLE ON JUNE 28 2017 AS PART OF THIS RECALL BY VW DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THE SUCTION PUMP WHICH FAILED ON FEBRUARY 7 2021 HAD THE MANUFACTURING DATE STAMP OF 15.08.15 WHICH INDICATES THAT PERHAPS VW DIDN'T REPLACE THE SUCTION PUMP AS PART OF THE RECALL REPAIR OR REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER FAULTY SUCTION PUMP WHICH STILL HAD THE ISSUE (SINCE THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF THE FAILED SUCTION PUMP IS ALMOST 2 YEARS BEFORE THE DATE OF RECALL REPAIR). VW OF AMERICA HASN'T PROVIDED ME CLEAR ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS STATED BELOW (SEE ATTACHED LETTER DATED FEBRUARY 13 2021, THAT I SENT TO VW OF AMERICA RAISING THESE CONCERNS): I) WOULD THIS SUCTION PUMP THAT FAILED AND WHICH WAS MANUFACTURED ON 15.08.15 WILL HAVE THE FIX FOR THE ISSUE IDENTIFIED IN 20Y6? II) WHAT WAS THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF THE SUCTION PUMP ORIGINALLY INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED? VW OF AMERICA REPLIED TO ME ON FEBRUARY 15 2021 STATING THAT THEY WON'T HELP ME WITH THIS REPAIR AS THE PART WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE ME ANSWERS TO THE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS I RAISED. IF THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY, ISN'T VW STILL RESPONSIBILE TO FIX THE ISSUE THAT MY VEHICLE SUFFERED AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE THEM TO PROVIDE ME CLEAR ANSWERS TO THE ABOVE TWO QUESTIONS.
CLUTCH MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED AT 34,700 MILES. BECAUSE HYDRAULIC FLUID CONTAMINATED CLUTCH PLATE AND FLYWHEEL THOSE WERE ALSO REPLACED. FAILURE OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS ON A COMMERCIAL STREET. SYMPTOMS: CLUTCH PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT COME BACK UP. HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAKED OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR
ENGINE THERMOSTAT AND PUMP FAILURE WITH GRADUAL COOLANT LEAK. COOLANT REQUIRED REFILLING MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN 45,000 MILES, SOMETIMES COOLANT GETTING DANGEROUSLY LOW WITHOUT WARNING UNTIL CAR IS ON INTERSTATE. THERMOSTAT/PUMP HAS ALSO BEGUN OVERCOOLING ENGINE, NOT ALLOWING IT TO GET UP TO OPERATING TEMP WHEN ON INTERSTATE AND SHUTTING OUT USAGE OF CRUISE CONTROL. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH MK7 GTI.
MY THERMOSTAT HAD A COOLANT LEAK AT 37K, AND THIS WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE VW DEALERSHIP IN 12/20. MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AT THE VW DEALERSHIP. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS ISSUE IS QUITE COMMON ON 2015-2018 VW GTIS (AND IT LOOKS LIKE IN ADDITION TO THE THERMOSTAT, THE WATER PUMP IS OFTEN PRONE TO LEAKAGE) AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ON VW FORUMS HERE: HTTPS://WWW.REDDIT.COM/R/GOLFGTI/COMMENTS/DRNA5M/MK775_THERMOSTAT_HOUSING_ISSUE_AND_COOLANT_LOSS AND HERE: HTTPS://WWW.GOLFMK7.COM/FORUMS/INDEX.PHP?THREADS/FAILED-THERMOSTAT-HOUSING-COOLANT-LOSS-INFO-GATHERING.368847 THE THERMOSTAT SHOULD NOT BE LEAKING SO EARLY IN THE LIFE OF A VEHICLE. THIS LEAK CAN LEAD TO A LOSS OF COOLANT, WHICH IN TURN CAN DAMAGE OR DESTROY THE ENGINE. I CONTACTED VW OF AMERICA, AND THEY DECLINED TO COVER IT, AS THE VEHICLE WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS POTENTIALLY A DEFECTIVE PART THAT CAN LEAD TO THE VEHICLE NOT WORKING, AND I WOULD HOPE THAT A RECALL WOULD HELP OTHER OWNERS PROTECT THEIR VEHICLES.
RAW FUEL SMELL IN CABIN. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER A SHORT TRIP. I STOP AND RESTART WITHIN A FEW MINUTES AND IT IS QUITE A HEAVY SMELL LIKE A FUEL LEAK. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE THIS MONTH.
IT SUCKS IN TOO MUCH AIR AND FAILS AS IF IT HAD A SPARKPLUG FAULT IT WASTES TOO MUCH GAS AND SOMETIMES SUFFOCATES AND WANTS TO TURN OFF
ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS INOPERATIVE. THIS INCLUDES AIRBAG, HORN, CRUISE CONTROL, RADIO CONTROLS, ETC.
SUNROOF LEAKS INTO HEADLINER AND DOWN THE SIDE PILLARS. OCCURS WHEN STATIONARY AND IN MOTION DURING PERIODS OF EXTENDED RAIN. RESULTS IN DAMAGE TO ELECTRONICS, SOUND SYSTEM AND FABRIC/BODY COMPONENTS.
WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER UNKNOWN CAUSE.
COOLANT LEAK FROM THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING. THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANT. I BELIEVE IT IS LEAKING AGAIN AS IT WAS REPLACED WITH THE SAME FAULTY PARTS AND I HAVE NOTICED A SLIGHT DROP IN COOLANT AND A SMELL, WHICH WAS THE ISSUE ORIGINALLY.
SUCTION PUMP INSIDE GAS TANK ALLOWED GAS TO COLLECT WITHIN THE EVAPORATIVE-EMISSION SYSTEM. THIS FILLED THE CHARCOAL CANISTER FILTER WITH LIQUID GASOLINE. THIS GASOLINE SPILLED OUT INTO THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL AND ON TO THE GARAGE FLOOR. I HAD ABOUT ONE QUARTER (1/4) OF A TANK OF GAS IN THE CAR WHEN I PARKED IN MY HOME GARAGE AFTER A SHORT DRIVE TO DAIRY QUEEN TO PICK UP A BLIZZARD ICE CREAM BIRTHDAY CAKE. WHEN MY ROOMMATE PULLED INTO THE GARAGE SHE SAID SHE SMELLED GAS. I WENT BACK INTO THE GARAGE AND IT SMELLED VERY STRONGLY OF GAS. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND THERE WAS A GOOD SIZE PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE. I BACKED THE CAR OF MY HOME GARAGE AND DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE NEAREST OPEN MECHANIC SHOP. THEY REMOVED THE REAR TIRE AND THE INNER FENDER WELL. THEN WE COULD SEE THE CHARCOAL CANNISTER WAS LEAKING LIQUID GASOLINE. I CHECKED THE VIN NUMBER WITH VW ONLINE AND THERE WAS RECALLS FOR 2015-2016 VW GTI BUT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY CAR SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE CANNISTER AND FUEL TANK. VW HAD A NEW PART NUMBER FOR A NEW DESIGN TANK THAT SUPERSEDED THE OLD PART NUMBER AND REQUIRED NEW GAS LINES TOO. CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED WITH MY ONW MONEY AND SEEMS TO RUN FINE WITH NO SMELL OF GAS OR VISIBLE LEAKS. I SPOKE WITH THE VW DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR THIS MORNING AND THEN SPOKE WITH VW CUSTOMER CARE THIS AFTERNOON. THEY BOTH SAID ONCE A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED I CAN SUBMIT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE WITH ME IN THE CAR OR PARKED IN MY HOME GARAGE COULD HAVE INJURED MY FAMILY AND OUR DOG. *LN*JB
TURBO FAILED AFTER 65,000 MILES.
AT THE GAS STATION, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ALLOW FOR NORMAL FUEL UP TO OCCUR. THE PUMP NOZZLE KEEPS CLICKING OFF AND I CAN'T PUT MORE THAN 1/4 TANK OF GAS WITHOUT THE FUEL SPILLING OUT OF THE TANK FILLER NECK/TUBE. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING POWER LOSS THAT CAN BE FELT AS A SUDDEN "BUCKING" MOTION WHEN ACCELERATING NORMALLY AND AT CONSTANT CRUISE SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH. THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER DIAGNOSIS REPORTED PLUGGED EVAP CANISTER VENT LINES AND FUEL TANK AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 52,500 MILES AND I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER. MANY OWNERS OF THIS YEAR MODEL IN OTHER STATES ARE REPORTING THE EXACT SAME FUEL UP ISSUE ON INTERNET AUTO FORUMS.
THERMOSTAT HOUSING SEAL FAILURE HAS LED TO COOLANT LEAK. DISCOVERED BY TECHNICIAN DURING UNRELATED MAINTENANCE. CAR HAS 76,000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALL AND HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE BRAKE SUCTION CUP. THE MECHANIC LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V647000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. CLAY COOLEY VOLKSWAGEN OF PARK CITIES (5555 LEMMON AVE, DALLAS, TX 75209, (469) 240-6240) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE, WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.*DT *JS
I SET THE HANDBRAKE TO SECURE MY VEHICLE IN IT'S PARKING STALL AND LEFT THE VEHICLE WHILE I WENT INTO A STORE. AT THE TIME I LEFT THE VEHICLE, IT WAS COMPLETELY STATIONARY AND SECURE. MANY MINUTES LATER, I BECAME AWARE THAT MY VEHICLE HAD MOVED FROM THE PLACE WHERE I PARKED IT. THE VEHICLE HAD ROLLED BACKWARDS OUT OF IT'S PARKING STALL AND COLLIDED WITH TWO OTHER UNOCCUPIED VEHICLES LOCATED IN PARKING STALLS BEHIND MY VEHICLE, ABOUT 40 FEET AWAY. WHEN I ENTERED MY VEHICLE TO MOVE IT AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT SCENE, I FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HANDLE (HAND BRAKE) HAD COME UNLATCHED AND THE LATCHING MECHANISM HAD FAILED. THERE IS A BUTTON AT THE END OF THE BRAKE HANDLE THAT WHEN DEPRESSED, RELEASES THE PARKING BRAKE. THAT BUTTON AND A SPRING LOCATED BEHIND IT HAD EJECTED FROM THE END OF THE BRAKE HANDLE. APPARENTLY, WHEN THE BRAKE RELEASE BUTTON FAILS IN THIS WAY, IT CAUSES THE BRAKE TO RELEASE, WHICH CAUSES GRAVITY TO MOVE THE UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE DOWN HILL, WHERE IT WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT REACHED A LOCAL ELEVATION MINIMA, OR STRUCK ANY PERSON OR OBJECT THAT MIGHT HAVE STOPPED IT'S MOTION. A WITNESS TO THE ACCIDENT WHO OCCUPIED THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE STALL NEXT TO MINE VERIFIED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SECURE WHEN I LEFT IT, AND IT HAD GONE INTO MOTION ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL DISTURBANCE OR INPUT. IT CONCERNS ME THAT THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKE HANDLE AND BREAK RELEASE IS ALLOWED TO FAIL IN THIS WAY. I WOULD EXPECT A FAILURE OF THE BRAKE RELEASE BUTTON TO RESULT IN THE INABILITY TO RELEASE THE BRAKE, A "SAFE" FAILURE MODE. IN THIS CASE, THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKE HANDLE RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE FAILURE MODE, WHERE THE ONCE SECURELY PARKED STATIONARY VEHICLE COULD SPONTANEOUSLY GO INTO MOTION DUE TO THE FAILURE OF A SIMPLE PLASTIC MECHANICAL WEAR ITEM: THE BRAKE RELEASE. THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS THAT AN EMINENT FAILURE WAS LOOMING PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. *TR
THERMOSTAT HOUSING/WATER PUMP FAILED AT 80,000 MILES. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE STRANDED ME DURING COVID PANDEMIC FAR FROM HOME. USE OF A PLASTIC PART IN A CRITICAL ENGINE APPLICATION IS PROBLEMATIC. REPAIR COST $906 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THIS HOUSING. VW HAS DENIED COVERAGE FOR THIS CRITICAL ENGINE COMPONENT.
MY 2016 GOLF GTI SE HAS A LEAKING PANAORMIC SUNROOF, IT LEAKS INTO THE INTERIOR CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CEILING, THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE OVERHEAD LIGHTING CONTROLS, AND THE PASSENGER VISOR LIGHT. THIS HAPPENS EVEN WHEN THERE IS A MINOR AMOUNT OF RAIN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING OR STATIONARY. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM THAT VW SHOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL TO FIX IT. I HAVE A VIDEO SHOWING WHAT IS HAPPENING BUT, YOU GUYS ONLY ACCEPT PICTURES.
THERMOSTAT & HOUSING FAILURE. LOSS OF COOLANT OVER TIME, PERIOD OF 3 MONTHS. HAD TO REFILL COOLANT MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THAT PERIOD.
DRIVING TO WORK ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019 AT 7:45AM, AN INDICATION NOTIFICATION CAME ON THAT THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS EXTREMELY LOW. I PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT OF A DONUT SHOP ON LEFFINGWELL RD AND MEYER RD AND POPPED MY HOOD OPEN. COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. A FRIEND WAS CALLED TO COME PICK ME UP AND DRIVE TO A VW DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP COOLANT AND DISTILLED WATER FROM A LIQUOR STORE. COOLANT WAS TOPPED OFF. NEXT DAY, CAR WAS TAKEN INTO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND CONFIRMED THAT THERMOSTAT HOUSING FAILED AND DUMPED COOLANT.
I BOUGHT MY CAR WITH 29,000 MILES AND NOW HAS 41,000.. MY AIRBAG LIGHT RANDOMLY COMES ON AND FLASHES AND ON PASSENGER SEAT... EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS IN SEAT ... VOLKSWAGEN WON'T FIX IT EVEN THOUGH I FIRST COMPLAINED TO THEM CAR ONLY HAD 31,000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 35,000 MILES...
PANORAMIC SUNROOF LEAKS INTO THE INTERIOR A FRAME PILLARS. IT LEAKS IN THE RAIN, THE SNOW, AND EVEN THE CAR WASH. THE LEAK STARTS AS A DAMP SPOT IN THE INTERIOR WHERE THE HEADLINER MEETS THE A FRAME PILLAR. THE SUNROOF WILL LEAK IF THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR MOVING. THE LEAK WILL MAKE ITS WAY DOWN THE PILLAR AND ACROSS THE SIDE AIRBAG.
HAD A CRACKED AND LEAKING WATER PUMP HOUSING THAT WAS REPLACED AND COVERED BY AN AFTERMARKET WARRANTY. I HAD BEEN TO MULTIPLE SHOPS BECAUSE OF A COOLANT SMELL, NONE COULD FINE THE SOURCE. I WAS TOLD BY VOLKSWAGEN THAT 'IT HAPPENS, THEY ALWAYS LOSE A LITTLE COOLANT', THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. IT IS A CLOSED SYSTEM AND SHOULD NOT LOSE ANY COOLANT OR SMELL LIKE COOLANT AT ALL. I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME CAR AS MYSELF WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, ONLY AFTER I WAS FORCEFUL AND INSISTENT WITH A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP WAS THE PROBLEM FOUND AND CORRECTED.
LOOSE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ,MAKING IT HARD TO DRIVE ... SUDDEN LOSS HAPPENS ABOUT 15 MINS INTO DRIVING ... EVERY TIME , IT DOES NOT RETURN UNTIL CAR IS TURNED OF AND TURNED BACK ON , THEN REPEATS WITH IN 10 -15 MINS YOU LOOSE POWER STEERING OR WHEN TURNING , MANY VW FORUMS SHOW THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDREDS OF CARS POSSIBLY 1000S ... WHEN YOU TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND THEY START IT THEY SAY THEIR DIAGNOSTICS ARE SHOWING NO DCT CODES BECAUSE CAR RECYCLES AND LOOKS CLEARLY ALTHOUGH THEY KNOW AS THEY STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM AND I WILL NEED NEW EPAS ( STEERING RACK ) 2900$ BUT VOWA GOT DEARLERSHIP DOWN TO 1900 ... MY PROBLEM IS ON THE FORUMS YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS HAPPENS STILL WITH MANY 2016S AND OTHER YEARS .. AND IT'S SCARY TO LOOSE YOUR POWER STEERING ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT THAT STRONG ... AND VW STATES THEY KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM BUT ARE STILL CHARGING HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FOR AN ENTIRE NEW RACK WHEN THEY EVEN SAY THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT PROBLEM BUT IT'S CLEARLY THERE AND THEY ARE AWARE OF IT ...BOTH VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA AND THE DEALERSHIP KNOW OF MANY PROBLEMS OCCURRING WITH ' AN INTERNAL FAILURE ' IN THE ELECTRICAL STEERING RACK ( AS SAID BY VW VER BATEM )
THERMOSTAT HOUSING LEAKING COOLANT MAJOR AMOUNTS OF COOLANT OVER THE COURSE OF 5K MILES, MUCH MORE COOLANT THAN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL. COULD LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE AND/OR STALLING WHILE DRIVING.

REARVIEW BACKUP CAMERA AT TIMES STOPS WORKING IN 1 OUT OF 3 INSTANCES WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THERE IS FIRST AT DISTORTED PICTURE, EVENTUALLY SHUTTING DOWN ALTOGETHER "PARK PILOT NOT AVAILABLE". THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY WITH NO RHYME OR REASON. REAR CAMERA IS WORKING; THERE ARE DAYS IT IS ALWAYS WORKING, ON OTHERS EVERY REVERSE RESULTS IN A FAILURE. RESETTING THE HEAD UNIT DOES NOT FIX IT. SHUTTING DOWN CAR AN LETTING IT RESET ITSELF SOMETIMES WORKS. THIS SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHOSE FREQUENCY APPEARS TO INCREASE WITH TIME.
WENT INTO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 44,999 MILES ON FEB 6, 2019 AND VOLKSWAGEN FOUND THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING AND SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THERMOSTAT AND WATER PUMP REPLACED. NOT TOO LONG AFTER, NOTICED LOW COOLANT LIGHT GO ON. WENT BACK INTO VOLKSWAGEN FOR MAINTENANCE AT 53,339 MILES ON MAY 16, 2019 AND VOLKSWAGEN CONFIRMED THAT THE WATER PUMP WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY.
SUNROOF DRAIN REINFORCEMENT STEEL HAS DEVELOPED STRESS CRACKS. WHICH HAS LET WATER LEAK INSIDE VEHICLE, ONTO HEADLINER AND DOWN A-PILLARS SATURATING FRONT SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS MAKING THEM DEFECTIVE. VEHICLE CAN BE STATIONARY OR OPERATED, IT WILL LEAK EITHER WAY. VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO ADDRESS ISSUE WITH AIRBAGS AND LEAK SAYING THERE IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SO THEY WONT COVER REPAIR WHICH COULD COST GREATER THAN $2,500. VEHICLE HAS ALSO DEVELOPED BLACK MOLD BETWEEN ROOF AND HEADLINER WHICH IS HAZARDOUS TO BREATH. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #60-17-01(V601701) IS THE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEALERSHIP ONLY REPAIR BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE AIRBAG REPLACE OR HEADLINER REPLACEMENT. I ADDRESSED ISSUE WITH VOLKSWAGEN MULTIPLE TIMES WHICH THEY DENY ANY SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GTI S 4D AUTO. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE FUEL TANK WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY TO FLAGSHIP VOLKSWAGEN CARRETERA (#2 14.7, BAYAMN, 00922, PUERTO RICO, 787-302-2718) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EVAP SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,546.
SUNROOF FRAME LEAKS WATER INTO THE CAR. THE WATER DRIPS ON TO THE CENTER CONSOLE HARDWARE/ELECTRONICS AND HARDWARE/ELECTRONICS LOCATED ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE LEAK IS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR VW GOLF 2016, AS VW PREVIOUSLY SENT OUT A RECALL FOR THE SUNROOF FRAME. THE LEAK OCCURS AFTER HEAVY RAINFALL. THE WATER DRIPS RIGHT ON TO THE ACC CRUISE CONTROL. VW ACKNOWLEDGED IN PHONE MESSAGE THAT SOURCE OF LEAK WAS SUNROOF AND THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. ORIGINALLY, I THOUGHT THE LEAK DERIVED FROM DIRTY DRAINS, BUT VW CLARIFIED THE ROOT CAUSE AS THE SUNROOF. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT FOLLOW UP WITH ME. I RE-ENGAGED THEM AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD NEED TO TEST IT AGAIN. AFTER THE SECOND TEST, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE MY CLAIM DESPITE DESPITE THE INITIAL, POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION OF THE SUNROOF AS THE LEAK. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL CAUSE OTHER, MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IF LEFT UNTREATED. THE LEAK CAN OCCUR WITH THE CAR EITHER STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. HOWEVER, THE LEAK IS MORE PROMINENT WHEN STATIONARY. FOR EXAMPLE, MY CAR LEAKS THE WORST WHEN I LEAVE IT IN THE PARKING LOT AT WORK DURING HEAVY RAINFALL. UPON ENTERING MY CAR, STANDING WATER WILL HAVE POOLED UP IN THE GEAR SELECTOR COVER AND DRIPS FROM MY REAR VIEW MIRROR ON TO THE CENTER CONSOLE. I STILL POSSESS THE VOICEMAIL WHERE THEY IDENTIFIED THE SUNROOF AS THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. I ATTACHED A PHOTO OF THE WATER STAINS BECAUSE IT WAS NOT RAINING WHEN I FILED THE COMPLAINT.
WATERPUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 49,000 MILES WAS LEAKING COOLANT. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THE EA888 ENGINE AND NEEDS EITHER A RECALL OR WARRANTIES EXTENDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
THE FRONT EDGE OF THE DECORATIVE METAL TRIM AROUND THE GEAR SELECTOR SLICED MY FINGER OPEN. THIS OCCURRED ON 3/12/2019 WHILE REACHING INTO THE BIN IN FRONT OF THE TRIM. THE METAL IS EXTREMELY SHARP AND CAUSED PANIC WHILE DRIVING AS MY FINGER BLED.
CENTER CONSOLE TRIM BECAME UNGLUED AND SHARP. CHROME SURROUNDING THE CENTER STORAGE PEELED UP AND CUT ME SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I HAD THE PIECE REPLACED OUT OF MY WALLET.
THE SILVER METAL TRIM THAT BORDERS THE GEAR SHIFTER HAS STARTED TO PEEL AWAY FROM THE PLASTIC BASE TRIM UNDERNEATH. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND WAS DONE BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPER TO MAKE A FLAT METAL PLATE AND JUST GLUE IT ON TOP OF THE BASE PLATE THAN IT IS TO MAKE AN EDGE THAT ROLLS OVER AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE BASE PLATE IT IS GLUED TO. SO IN ESSENCE WHEN IT SEPARATES, IT'S BASICALLY A RAZOR BLADE EDGE BECAUSE IT IS SO THIN. MY WIFE HAS CUT HER HAND OPEN ON THIS AS HAVE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ON FORUMS SO THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE.
THE CHROME TRIM DETAIL AROUND THE GEAR SELECTOR BASE PEELED UP SLIGHTLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STORAGE CUBBY. IT IS NOT VISIBLE FROM A NORMAL SEATED POSITION THAT IT PEELED UP. WHEN REMOVING AN ITEM FROM THE STORAGE CUBBY THE PEELED UP METAL DEEPLY SLICED MY FINGER AND IT BLED FOR HOURS. THE PEELED UP METAL IS RAZOR SHARP. THE VW DEALER WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE ON SIMILAR VEHICLES AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. THIS HAPPENED IN DECEMBER 2017. I AM REPORTING IT NOW AFTER HEARING OF SEVERAL SIMILAR OCCURRENCES WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL.
MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER FAILURE CAUSING MY BRAKES TO NOT WORK AND ENDANGERED MY SAFETY ON THE ROAD. NO INDICATIONS OF FAILURE UNTIL I WAS ALREADY ON THE ROAD WITH NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE CYLINDER. NO LEAK BRAKE FLUID ALL DRAINED TO THE BOOST PUMP AND FAILED.
REPEATED HARD KNOCK COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY FROM A DEAD STOP. SUSPECTED THE ENGINE MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS. SIMILAR REPORTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS ONLINE. NOISE DOES NOT OCCUR ONCE THE CAR IS IN MOTION.
WHILE ADJUSTING STEERING COLUMN , THE HIGH BEAMS TURN ON AND WIPER & WASHER FLUID TURN ON ...CAN NOT TURN OFF UNTIL STEERING COLUMN IS READJUSTED ....
SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING, AT ANY SPEED, A WARNING IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. VW HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED MY SHIFTER ASSEMBLY BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTS.
SOMETIMES, AFTER THE CAR HAS WARMED UP AND UNDER HARD ACCELERATION THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE LOWER ENGINE AREA. THE VW DEALER INVESTIGATED AND CONFIRMED IT IS THE FUEL LINES RATTLING THAT IS MAKING THE NOISE. THEY TRIED TO INSERT SOME DAMPENING MATERIAL TO SECURE THE FUEL LINES BUT THE NOISE PERSISTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SUN ROOF LEAKED WATER INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN ROOF WAS CLOSED COMPLETELY, YET THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED WATER INTRUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER RAINY CONDITIONS AND RECURRED DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS. FAIRFAX VOLKSWAGEN (11050 FAIRFAX BLVD, FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA 22030, (703) 359-4500) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND VERIFIED THAT THE SUN ROOF WAS LEAKING WATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BASED UPON THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN PER NHTSA I.D. 10133484. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD POP LIKE A GUN SHOT. I LOOKED UP AND IT WAS MY MOON ROOF. IT WAS AS IF IT HAD BLOWN OUT. I WAS NOT UNDER AN UNDERPASS OR NEAR ANY VEHICLES THAT COULD HAVE THROWN A ROCK. IT HAPPENED LIKE COMBUSTION. SO RANDOM AND SCARY! IF I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THE SHADE CLOSED, I WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IN GLASS. THIS WAS AN ORDINARY MORNING WITH TEMPS AROUND 60 DEGREES. I AM SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY AND YET THERE IS NO SAFETY RECALL. PLEASE HELP.
CLOCKSPRING FAILURE ON 2016 VW GTI RESULTING IN NON FUNCTIONING AIRBAG
THIS CAR HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED UP, STATIONARY, WITH PARKING BRAKE ON, I SHIFT INTO REVERSE TO EXIT MY GARAGE. THE REAR-VIEW CAMERA SWINGS INTO POSITION, BUT THE VIDEO IMAGE SOMETIMES FAILS TO APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD MONITOR. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM.
THE LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED RESULTING IN FALSE WARNINGS OF AIR BAG, STABILIZATION CONTROL, ABS SYSTEM, AND TIRE PRESSURE FAILURES. A REPLACEMENT PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND/OR UNAVAILABLE. THIS WILL RESULT IN DISREGARD OF ANY OF THE ABOVE WARNINGS IN THE FUTURE EVEN IF THEY ARE GENUINE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY AT ANY SPEED.
THE CLOCK SPRING ON MY CAR WENT BAD AFTER 46,000 MILES. MAKES AIRBAG UNUSEABLE AND STEERING COLUMN CONTROLS DO NOT WORK EITHER
CONTINENTAL PROCONTACT' TX 195/65R15 RT REAR TIRE SIDE WALL BLEW OUT WITH NO WARNING. CAR HAS 16000 MILES AND HAS BEEN DEALER SERVICED SINCE NEW. CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON FREEWAY ON RAMP WHEN VIBRATION AND THUMP WERE FELT INSIDE THE CAR. DRIVER PULLED INTO SECURE AREA AND SAW THAT TIRE SIDEWALL HAD BLOWN OUT ON INSIDE AND OUTSIDE SIDEWALLS. TIRE WAS REPLACED BY VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AT OWNERS EXPENSE.
I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 15MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WHEN I HEARD THE LOUD SOUND LIKE A GUNSHOT. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND WENT OUTSIDE TO FIND THAT MY SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. THAT WAS NOTHING ON THE GROUND THAT COULD'VE HIT THE SUNROOF OR WAS THERE ANYTHING HIGH NEARBY (TREES, BUILDINGS, ETC.) THAT SOMETHING COULD'VE FELL FROM.
FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS "SPARKLES" /" SCRATCHES" IN IT. THIS IS EXTREMELY VISIBLE IN THE SUN AND THIS HAS BEEN PROMINENT SINCE 10,000 MILES. CAR AHS 31,000 NOW. TALKED WITH VW SERVICE MANGER ABOUT THIS ISSUE, NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. I USE THE SAME BRAND CLEANERS FOR MY OTHER CARS AND NO ISSUES. THIS IS A FACTORY DIRECT PROBLEM. WINDSHIELD GET WORSE WITH AGE.
DESPITE A 2015 RECALL, 2016 GOLFS ARE STILL BEING AFFECTED BY FAULTY CLOCK SPRING SETUPS AND A LACK OF SOME TYPE OF COVER THAT IS PREVENTING DEBRIS FROM GETTING INSIDE AND BREAKING THEM. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. I THEN NOTICED THAT NONE OF THE CONTROL FEATURES ON THE STEERING WHEEL WORKED.. NO CRUISE CONTROL, NOT HORN, NO SYSTEM DATA, ETC. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WAS THE REASON FOR THE PROBLEM AND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT VW HAS KNOWN ABOUT SINCE 2011. ONLY AFTER AN INVESTIGATION WAS VW FORCED INTO DOING A RECALL IN 2015. THE PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY STILL EXISTS SINCE THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CONTINUED COMPLAINTS STILL BEING FILED.
CONSUMING OIL
RANDOM POP OUT FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN DRIVING, AND IT STAY ON NOW
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON MY USUAL HIGHWAY ROUTE WHEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. THERE WERE NOT CARS IN PROXIMITY TO MINE, NONE IN FRONT, TO THE SIDE OR REAR. I WAS ON A BRIDGE, ABOUT MID-SECTION WHEN THE IT HAPPENED. IT WAS LOUD AND SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION. LUCKILY MINIMAL GLASS DROPPED INTO THE INTERIOR. I HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR WHY IT HAPPENED, IT SEEMED SPONTANEOUS.
VEHICLE MAKES LOUD CREAKING NOISES FROM BODY-VW CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL BUT MY PREVIOUS GTI DID NOT DO THAT. THE WHEELS AND SUSPENSION ALSO MAKE A LOUD CLANKING NOISE.
I LEASED A NEW 2016 VW GOLF. VW CLAIMED THE CAR GOT 25/35 MILEAGE. I AM GETTING 13/26 AND YET I AM A VERY CASUAL DRIVER. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO VW DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES. THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT THAT I ONLY DRIVE A FEW MILES A DAY, SO THE CAR DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO WARM UP AND THAT IS WHY I DO NOT GET THE STATED MILEAGE. IT'S A RIDICULOUS CLAIM. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS ANOTHER VW SCANDAL. I NEED TO ESCALATE THE RESOLUTION OF THIS ISSUE AS I HAVE PLENTY OF PROOF ON THE ISSUE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE THE CORRECT GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN ROOF MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN NUMEROUS TIMES TO AN UNKNOWN VOLKSWAGEN DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SUN ROOF SEALANT, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUN ROOF RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V647000 (FUEL SYSTEM, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RECEIVE ADEQUATE FUEL MILEAGE AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE LOCAL DEALER (OURISMAN VOLKSWAGEN OF BETHESDA LOCATED AT 7001 ARLINGTON RD, BETHESDA, MARYLAND 20814) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED PARTS FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THAT THE CONTACT WAS PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MAKING FLORIDA AND PUERTO RICO A PRIORITY FIRST. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGON GOLF. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE BEING OPERATED IN SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S SPEED WOULD INCREASE BY APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND WOULD OFTEN OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS WHO INDICATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
PERSISTENT FUEL SMELL. VEHICLE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE AT DEALERSHIP FOR SAME PROBLEM. CARBON FILTER WAS REPLACED, FUEL SENSOR AND FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED (UNDER WARRANTY). SMELL MOST NOTICEABLE AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 10-30 MINUTES, THEN PARKED FOR 10 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR.
FUEL ODOR IN CAR CABIN USUALLY AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED AFTER BEING RUN AND SITTING BRIEFLY OFF. THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED AFTER SUCTION PUMP RECALL WORK WAS DONE.
STEERING POWER ASSIST "TWITCHES" WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION. HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, SPEEDS AND STEERING CONDITIONS WHILE DRIVING....ENOUGH TO JERK THE CAR INTO THE NEXT LANE. MIGHT BE TIED TO VW'S DSR OR DYNAMIC STEERING RECOMMENDATION SETTING IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER.
BRAKE FAILURE. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AROUND 20MPH, WHEN A 'BRAKE: FLUID LOW SEE OWNER'S MANUAL' MESSAGE CAME ON. AFTER SEEING THIS MESSAGE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE PEDAL MADE A 'CHATTERING NOISE' AS IT MOVED THROUGH THE PEDAL STROKE. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS USED TO STOP THE CAR. THIS WAS EASILY RECREATED IN A PARKING LOT AND AT THE LOCAL DEALER. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON EACH TIME THE CAR WAS STARTED AFTER THE INITIAL INCIDENT, AND WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE PEDAL, THE PEDAL EASILY WENT TO THE FLOOR MAKING THE SAME CHATTERING NOISE. THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. THE BRAKE SYSTEM SEEMED TO FUNCTION AS IT SHOULD AND HAD EVERY OTHER TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN. I CHECKED FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKS AT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND AT EACH OF THE FOUR CALIPERS, AND DID NOT FIND ANY LEAKED FLUID. IT APPEARED THAT THERE WAS STILL BRAKE FLUID IN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. UPON INITIAL CONTACT, THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. AFTER THEIR INITIAL ASSESSMENT BY THE DEALER, THEY BELIEVED IT WAS A MASTER CYLINDER ISSUE AND THE SEAL ON THE SIDE OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAD FAILED, AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED INTO THE BOOSTER.
I GOT A RECALL LETTER FROM VOLKSWAGEN REGARDING SUCTION PUMP IN EARLY NOVEMBER 2016. I IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND FIRST DEALER IN FAIR LAWN, NEW JERSEY GAVE ME THE APPOINTMENT 2 WEEKS LATER THEN AGAIN RESCHEDULED TO 12/10/2016. UNFORTUNATELY, TODAY I CALLED AGAIN BUT PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL HAVE IT. I EVEN ASKED VOLKSWAGEN TO SWAP MY CAR WITH ANOTHER VOLKSWAGEN BUT THEY ASKED MORE MONEY AND REJECTED MY OFFER. WE STILL SMELL GAS IN THE CAR AND WE ARE SCARED. NOW, MY AND MY FAMILY'S LIFE UNDER RISK. WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE IF CAR GOT FIRE AND WE ALL DIE..PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO GIVE THIS CAR BACK WITHOUT ANY COST TO ME?
DEALER PERFORMED RECALL SERVICE FOR SAFETY RECALL 16V647 - SUCTION PUMP. FOLLOWING SERVICE SERVICE STATION PUMP TRIPS OFF AFTER FILLING SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS AND GAS GAUGE IS INOPERATIVE. DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CORRECTLY PROBLEM IN 3 SERVICE VISITS. COMPLAINT IS 2-FOLD: (1) DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CARRY OUT SAFETY RECALL SERVICE CORRECTLY. (2) INABILITY TO MEASURE FUEL LEVEL IS A SAFETY HAZARD.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 BUICK REGAL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MODULE WAS FAULTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000. CONSUMER STATED HE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A NEW OR USED MODULE TO FIX THE AIR BAG LIGHT TO DO OUT ON THE SPEEDOMETER. UPDATED 7/9/18*JB *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL NEAR THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THERE WERE ABNORMAL NOISES COMING FROM THE TOP PART OF BOTH REAR DOORS AND THE HATCHBACK OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE FRAME AND EXPANDING STRUCTURAL FOAM NEEDED TO BE SPRAYED IN THE HOLLOW PARTS OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.
ENGINE MISFIRED AND CAUSE THE CAR TO STUTTER WITH LOSS OF PERFORMANCE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING AT THE NORMAL SPEED DUE TO LOSS OF PERFORMANCE. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THE ENGINE HAS MISFIRED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. IT HAS LESS THAN 2,800 MILES ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 25 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CRACKLING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE VACUUM PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,558. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CONCERN WAS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH THE SAME OEM PART THAT INITIALLY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE BOUGHT BACK BUT, THE MANUFACTURER DECLINED AND OFFERED A 200.00 GIFT CARD. *JS
SUDDEN VIOLENT SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. THEY REPLACED ALL FOUR FUEL INJECTORS, SECOND TIME HAPPENED A MONTH LATER. SHAKING WHILE DRIVING. THEY CANNOT FIX. MILES JUST UNDER 2000 ON SECOND OCCURRENCE.
WINDSHIELD SEEMS VERY WEAK. HAD 3 BAD CRACKS WITHIN 6 MONTHS (8000 MILES) OF BUYING CAR, DRIVING THE SAME ROADS I HAD ZERO CRACKS OVER 4 1/2 YEAR AND 60K+ MILES IN MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE.
IN VERY HOT WEATHER (OVER 110 F) THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. IT STAYS IN LOW GEARS AND REV'S THE ENGINE FAR TOO MUCH. AT COOLER TEMPS IT DRIVES FINE. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER IN JULY 2016 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FINE.
TWO PRIMARY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AT THIS TIME: 1. EPC (ENGINE POWER CONTROL) LIGHT COMES ON FREQUENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT STREET AND FREEWAY SPEEDS. WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON THE CAR JERKS FORWARD AND RIDES ROUGH. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR AND IT NOT RUNNING CORRECTLY. THE CAR MANUAL INDICATES THAT WHEN THE EPC LIGHT IS DISPLAYED THE ENGINE IS MALFUNCTIONING. 2. THE BLUETOOTH/INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM WILL INTERMITTENTLY FREEZE AND THE PHONE WILL NOT DISCONNECT AND THE RADIO WILL WORK. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE SETTINGS TO TRY AND FIX IT AND PULL OVER THE CAR, TURN OFF THE CAR AND TRY AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALER /SERVICE CENTER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS TO FIX BOTH PROBLEMS AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX EITHER PROBLEM.
ON MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DEACTIVATE WHEN DEPRESSING CLUTCH, CHANGING GEAR. ONCE CLUTCH IS RELEASED CRUISE AUTOMATICALLY RE ENGAGES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY LIABILITY. VW CALLS IT A NEW FEATURE, THIS FEATURE HAS CAUSED A FEW NEAR MISSES.. THIS FEATURE WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT I'VE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND EVERY TIME THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED CRUISE TURNS OFF AND WILL ONLY RE-ENGAGE ONCE THE BUTTON IS DEPRESSED.
SAFETY ISSUE - 2016 EGOLF WOULD NOT MOVE AFTER A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP WITH "MAIN CHARGING FAILED" ERROR. DURING A NORMAL COMMUTE AFTER 3, 4 MILES OF DRIVING 30 - 40 MPH, CAR WOULDN'T MOVE AFTER A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP RIGHT AFTER A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THIS IS EVENING 6PM RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHILE REST OF THE SYSTEMS SEEM TO BE FUNCTIONING, THE CAR IGNITION IS ON, PRESSING ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOESN'T DO ANYTHING WITH "ELECTRICAL ERROR , STOP" MESSAGE ON THE DASH. AFTER GETTING STUCK IN A LANE FOR AN HOUR IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, GOT THE CAR TOWED TO NEARBY VW DEALER. DEALER INFORMED THAT THE MAIN CHARGING MODULE THAT CHARGES BATTERY FAILED, WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH NEW PART FORM GERMANY. IT COULD TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS. SAFETY ISSUE - THE FACT THAT CAR JUST STOPS WHILE DRIVING EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY HAS PLENTY OF CHARGE LEFT POSES A SERIOUS AND SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK. A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IS JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN.I WAS TOLD THAT THE DESIGN PROTECTS DRIVERS AGAINST GETTING STRANDED AFTER BATTERY IS DISCHARGED, SINCE THE CHARGING MODULE FAILED. THIS SEEMS TOTALLY ILLOGICAL THAT THE DESIGN IS TRYING TO PROTECT YOU FROM STRANDED WHEN BATTERY RUNS OUT, SO IT RATHER STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO GET THE MODULE FIXED BEFORE YOU CAN DRIVE IT TO A SAFE PLACE. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW INCIDENTS REPORTED LIKE THIS, SO VW HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE TO FIX ON 2016 EGOLF IMMEDIATELY. MAYBE IT REQUIRES A DESIGN FIX TO LET DRIVERS DRIVE TO A DEALER TO GET THE FAULTY PART TO BE FIXED, INSTEAD OF STRANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
