I was in a 3-car accident through the fault of another driver. This was on a highway in northwest suburbs of Chicago. Very serious crash ending in a totaled vehicle. Severe (left) front end damage with engine disengaging from the chassis and left front wheel coming off vehicle. I believe I was put at high risk of losing my life because none of the airbags deployed inside the vehicle. The car was viewed by state police (police report available) and insurance representatives officially deeming the vehicle "totaled". Based on my VIN, there were no pending airbag recalls on file. See uploaded pictures
While driving (car moving and in Drive) the rear hatch opened on the vehicle to about a mid-way position completely obscuring vision from rear view mirror. Fortunately I was able to pull to the side of the road and nothing fell out of the cargo area. Key fob was in my pocket - no buttons were pushed (on purpose or accidentally).
THE HEATER BLOWER CEASED WORKING. THE BACK BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A 3RD TIME, AND THE FACTORY NEVER SEALED THE AIR FILTER FOR THE ENGINE PROPERLY.
THE CAR HAD 14,500 MILES ON IT WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURED. MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR TO CHICAGO AND BACK , UPON RETURNING SHE PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE REMOVED SOME GROCERIES THE CAME BACK TO GET THE REST AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SHE THEN CALLED ME AS I WAS NOT HOME AND ASKED WHAT TO DO, I TOLD HER TO GET THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND BECAUSE OF THE INTENSE SMOKE SAID SHE WAS AFRAID SO I TOLD HER TO CALL THE FIRE DEPT. WHICH SHE DID. 30 MINUTES LATTER THE CAR AND GARAGE AND ALL CONTENTS WERE DESTROYED.

UPON START UP, VEHICLE AC SYSTEM RELEASES FOUL MUSKY SMELL FOR AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME THAT'S MORE PREVALENT DURING THE SUMMER/WARM WEATHER. CLEANING THE AC EVAPORATOR CORE PER BMW SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS ONLY BRIEFLY ALLEVIATES THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE SMELL COMES BACK FULL FORCE AGAIN. THIS IS A HEALTH CONCERN AS THERE IS DEFINITELY MOLD, MILDEW OR BACTERIA GROWING WITHIN THE AC SYSTEM. THESE GERMS ARE THEN GETTING PUMPED INTO A CONFINED SPACE, WHICH WILL LIKELY CAUSE OR EXACERBATE HEALTH CONDITIONS RELATED TO THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM OR BREATHING. THIS MAY CAUSE LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS, DIFFICULTY BREATHING, TOXIC INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT OR WORSE.

THERE IS A NON COMPLIANT RECALL REMEDY UNAVAILABLE FOR A TRIM PIECE INSIDE THE CAR BETWEEN FRONT AND REAR DOORS AND IN AN EVENT OF A CRASH CAN POSE SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY TO REAR SEAT PASSENGERS. I HAVE MY GRANDSON IN MY CAR ALMOST EVERY DAY AND MY SON. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I WANT TO GIVE THIS CAR BACK IMMEDIATELY WITH NO HASSLE OR REPERCUSSIONS. I AM LOOKING FOR A OTHER CAR EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY! I NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE SURE THIS DOES NOT COME BACK TO HAUNT US! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE SURE THIS HAPPENS RIGHT AWAY? BECAUSE I AM AFRAID NOW TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND IT'S NOT MY FAULT. WHEN I TALKED TO BMW THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE A REMEDY AND THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TRADE FOR OR SELL THIS CAR.
BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC (BMW) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2016-2019 X1 SDRIVE28I AND X1 XDRIVE28I VEHICLES. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH WHERE THE OCCUPANTS HEAD CONTACTS THE B-PILLAR, THE PILLAR MAY NOT ABSORB AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF THE IMPACT. AS SUCH, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NUMBER 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY SAY THE "FIX" IS NOT AVAILABLE. SUPPOSEDLY OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED ON JULY 1, 2019 BUT I HAVE SEEN NO NOTICE AS JULY 26, 2019. REMEDY

I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED ISSUES YET BUT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE CAR THAT AFFECTS MY BACKSEAT PASSENGERS AND BMW HAS NOT MADE ANY STEPS TO FIX IT AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH INFORMATION NECESSARY.
THE CAR HAS BEEN IN RECALL MODE SINCE APRIL WITH NO REMEDY! THIS IS CRAZY.
PURCHASED NEW CAR LATE DECEMBER 2018. QUICKLY REALIZED MY PARTMNER DOES NOT FIT SAFELY IN PASSENGER SEAT. WAS TOLD BY BMW THAT I CAN SELL OR DO LEASE TAKEOVER. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER I HAD A SAFETY RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION. (PREVENTING ME FROM SELLING THE CAR) A MONTH AFTER THAT I HAD TWO RECALLS & SQUEAKY BREAKS. ONE RECALL WAS CLOSED AND THE OTHER REMAINED OPEN. 4 MONTHS INTO PURCHASING A NEW CAR I'M BEING FORCED TO KEEP A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE FOR MY FAMILY. I CANT SELL OR TRADE IN BECAUSE OF RECALLS. BMW WILL NOT TAKE MY CAR BACK AND I CANT SELL IT. I'M STUCK WAITING FOR THEM TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OPEN RECALL. BMW HAS EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND I'M FORCED TO DRIVE A NEW CAR THAT THAT I HAVE ONLY HAD 7 MONTHS WHEN 4 MONTHS INTO MY LEASE THE CAR IS ALREADY EXPERIENCING TROUBLE. I CANT SELL THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE RECALL AND NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT ITS FINANCIALLY BURDENING MY FAMILY AS WE CANT USE THIS AS OUR FAMILY CAR AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

SUN VISORS ARE TOO SHORT / SMALL AND DON'T HELP ON A SUNNY DAY. MAY AS WELL NOT HAVE THEM AT ALL ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN AUTO-TINTED WINDSHIELD. WE FIND THIS TO BE A SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ALSO, CAR HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AT TIMES AND ENGINE ALSO SOUNDS ROUGH AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINUTES.
ON A SUNNY DAY, I DRIVED WITH MY FAMILY THROUGH THE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY AT 45 MILES PER HOUR, SUDENDLY A VERY STRONG NOISE WAS LISTED AND MANY SMALL GLASS PIECES FELL ON US, I STOP AS FAST AS POSSIBLE TO REVIEW THAT HAD BEATED, THE SUNROOF WAS DESTROYED, I DID NOT FOUND ANY OBJECT THAT WOULD HIT US, REVISING IN DETAIL NOTE THAT THE GLASS HAD BEEN EXPLOITED INSIDE OUT, THE CRYSTAL WAS INFLATED OUT OF THE VEHICLE, FORTUNATELY NOBODY LEAVES HURT WITH THE GLASS PIECES AND NOBODY WAS AROUND THE CAR AT THAT MOMENT LOCATION: LAREDO TEXAS DATE: 29/09/2018 TIME: 11:30 AM
VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. HATCH BACK WITH "KICK" OPEN FEATURE RANDOMLY HITS ME ON THE HEAD WHILE I AM MOVING THINGS AROUND IN THE TRUNK SPACE AS I MOVE SIDE TO SIDE TO REARRANGE ITEMS. AM TOLD I WOULD NEED TO SPEND $250 TO DE-ACTIVATE THE "KICK OPEN" FEATURE. CALLED BMW DIRECT TO COMPLAIN, THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THE CAN/WILL DO - IT IS ON ME TO SPEND MONEY NOT TO GET HURT BY THE UNEXPECTED DROPPING OF THE HATCH! SO MUCH FOR HIGHLY ENGINEERED CAR. EITHER THEY SHOULD HAVE A BUTTON YOU COULD PRESS TO LOCK THE HATCH INTO OPEN MODE TO SECURE IT WHILE YOU ARE MANEUVERING IN TRUNK SPACE OR THEY SHOULD HAVE A "DISABLE KICK OPEN" FEATURE OPTION IN THE VEHICLE STATUS SECTION OF THE IN-CAR ELECTRONIC SYSTEM. CLEARLY SOMEONE (INCLUDING ME) CAN/WILL GET HURT AND THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE THIS.
TAILGATE LOCKING SYSTEM HAS ELECTRONIC KICK. THERE IS NO ELECTRONIC CHIRP TO ALERT CLOSING. I WAS STRUCK IN THE HEAD. THE TOP LATCH IS WAS REVERSED TO 'MALE' EQUIVALENT TO A HAMMER. THE BOTTOM LATCH WAS REVERSED AS CONNECTOR. IF ANYONE OVER 5' 10" WALKS UNDER THE OPEN HATCH THEY CAN BE STRUCK.
