The contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that she noticed fluid leaking from the rear of the vehicle while parked. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where she was informed that the passenger’s side shock needed to be replaced. The contact had also taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who confirmed the failure and gave her an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The contact stated that she only does city driving and that a failure of this magnitude should not have happened this soon on a newer vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
Left front Strut was leaking at 7000, was replaced by ford. 12/6/2, the SUV has 27,800 miles and the same Strut is leaking again. The car is been only drive on city roads and freeway. I can see many people are complaining about the same issue.
Vehicle has less that 40,000 miles on it. It has become almost uncontrollable if you hit any rough spots on the road. During the last oil change it was noted the rear shocks and struts were bad as well as the front struts. This is far to early for a vehicle to have these issues. It has never been off-road and only towed a small trailer one time.
The aluminum caps on the lug nuts swell making them impossible to remove with the standard lug wrench. Rather than equipping the vehicles with quality single piece lug nuts instead they are cheap lugs nuts with flimsy caps that are prone to early and premature failure. When I got a flat tire I was unable to remove the lug nuts with the standard lug wrench provided. What should have been a straightforward 1/2 hour tire change ended up being an over 4 hour ordeal on the side of the road. The only way to remove the lugs nuts was with a damaged lug extractor tool which I did not have at the time. The only way to get the tire changed was pay for a tow and then have all 24 lug nuts removed and replaced with better quality single piece nuts at a specialty shop at my expense.
Swollen lug nuts.
The transmission would slip and not go into gear. Causing me to stall in the middle of intersections. This occurred multiple times and if I took my foot off the gas it woudl catch and I could go again. Dealership told me it could be PCM issue and was not able to see me until December of 2021. At the end of October it suddenly became almost undriveable and was limped to dealership. It was determined that the gear ratio for the 3rd gear was incorrect and at 67,318 miles and 4 years old it needs a new transmission.
When I drove a little bit uneven highway overpass about 50mph with family, three teenagers and my wife, I saw the rear bounces back a lot, almost lost control of the vehicle. Next day, I took it to local Ford Service and they say the rear structs and shocks were completely worn out, and need to be replaced. It has only highway mileage of only just over 20,000miles. Actually they were talking about leaking of oil through the seals and technician showed all four struts were leaking, rears much worse. The vehicle just passed 3 year warranty period by two months, and technician suggested the leakage had been there long before the factory warranty expired. So disappointed with Ford. This was my first Ford and will be the last.
We have put roughly 20,000 miles on this vehicle and were putting new tires on, when the technician showed me that all four struts were leaking. This vehicle is not driven excessively, it is primarily for short trips around the city and is not used in heavy traffic. A quick search identifies that this is a known issue, with multiple people identifying there concern. There are multiple several complaints on the NHTSA website. So after paying out of pocket, I called Ford to see if they would offer reimbursement. I received a call back from an extremely rude individual informing me that Ford will not reimburse me because there are no active recalls. After I explained that there are multiple complaints about this same issue she stated that Ford does not issue recalls and only the NHTSA will do that. Therefore, I am requesting the NHTSA look into this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the retractable running board failed to open or close intermittently. The contact stated that while stepping on the running board to exit the driver's side door, the running board inadvertently started to close. The contact stated that his foot was caught, and he had to struggle to remove his foot. The contact stated that he sustained no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The contact also stated that there were electrical issues with the side view mirrors automatically adjusting without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the mirror failure and advised the contact to call the local dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the running board failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The vehicle "chatters" when starting first thing in the morning and sometimes after it sits for a few hours(when engine has had time to cool down). It started about two months ago. We recently took our Expedition to an independent mechanic to have it checked over prior to a road trip. Their diagnosis was a loose timing chain and their recommendation was to take it to a licensed Ford dealership. I contacted three local Ford dealerships and their estimated next available service dates were between 4 and 6 weeks. Plus they are having problems getting some parts. We bought vehicle used with 68,000 miles and did not buy extended service plan. We currently have 95,000 and local dealer advised this repair is not covered by Ford even though Ford Issued TSB 21-2119 acknowledging the problem and recommended fix.
Electrical fire under hood occurred spontaneously. Just before my vehicle shut off the dash board read something about to conserve battery shut engine off. Pulled over got out of car and it burned . Insurance agent is investigating. Sherriff and fireman said it was electrical fire under hood. Had I not decided to pull over at rest stop when I did we would have been on freeway when it ignited.
The Fuel filler assembly on our 2018 Ford Expedition broke while filling the vehicle with fuel, causing the entire fuel filler assembly to pop out of the side of the vehicle. The parts appear to be made of weak plastic and/or may be caused by poor design execution. The concern is that this defect could cause fuel to leak out of the assembly and/or the broken parts may render the vehicle unable to be filled with fuel and leave the driver stranded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the issue and ordered replacement parts.

2018 EXPEDITION MAX LIMITED WITH 91K MILES OVERHEATED AND BLEW A HEAD GASKET SITTING IN A HOME DEPOT PARKING LOT.
I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TAKING A LEFT AND AS I PRESSED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE UP THE HILL IT SEEMED AS THOUGH MY CAR WENT INTO NEUTRAL. IT WOULD NOT GO. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WAITED A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN PUSHED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN AND THEN THE CAR TOOK OFF AS NORMAL. SINCE THAT FIRST TIME THIS SITUATION HAS BEGUN HAPPENING ALMOST DAILY SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND OF COURSE THEY CAN NEVER GET IT TO DUPLICATE WHAT IT DOES TO ME. CONCERNING TO ME IS IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN I PULL INTO TRAFFIC AND CAN'T GET OUT OF THE WAY OF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE.
TOLD NEEDED TO REPLACE REAR STRUTS WHEN TOOK INTO SERVICE AT 46,690 MILES. NEVER HAD TO DO THIS BEFORE. SAW FORD HAS A SAFETY MESSAGE (SSM 47624) ON THIS FOR 2017 AND 2018 EXPEDITIONS. NEVER HAD TO DO THIS SO EARLY IN A VEHICLE'S LIFE. I DON'T TOW OR GO OFF ROAD. WAS NOT COVERED BY EXTENDED PREMIUM WARRANTY
UNDER WARRANTY, MOISTURE WAS PRESENT IN ALL THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. THE UPPER (THIRD) BRAKE LIGHT HAD THE MOST CONDENSATION. AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER REVIEWED THE ISSUE AND ADVISED FORD DOES NOT COVER MOISTURE WITHIN A LIGHT AS THE MOISTURE WILL DISSIPATE OVER TIME. I ADVISED THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT WAS NEVER DRY, THEY INSISTED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE ISSUE. I COULD REPLACE THE LIGHT, I RECEIVED A QUOTE AT THAT TIME. NOW THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT HAS LESS THAN 2 LED'S WORKING AND THE VISIBILITY IS NEXT TO NOTHING. REVIEWING FORUMS, THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN PRESENT IN THE FORD EXPEDITIONS SINCE THE NEW VEHICLE DESIGN CHANGE. MY CONCERN IS VERY SIMPLE, THAT BRAKE LIGHT IS IMPORTANT IN THE SAFETY OF OUR PASSENGERS, THOSE AROUND THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE ITSELF. WE HAVE NOT BEEN IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE BRAKING OF THIS VEHICLE AHEAD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ONE CAR AHEAD OF YOU BASED ON WHAT I HAVE SEEN WHEN DRIVING BEHIND THIS VEHICLE MYSELF. I CONSIDER THIS BRAKE LIGHT A SIGNIFICANT COMPONENT OF THE SAFETY FEATURES IN OUR VEHICLE. TIMING OF THE ISSUE WAS OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. FIRST PHASE WAS MOISTURE NOT DISSIPATING, SECOND PHASE HAS BEEN THE LED LIGHTING CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING, A FEW LED'S AT FIRST, NOW ONLY A FEW ARE OPERATIONAL, AND DIM AT BEST DUE TO THE CONTINUED MOISTURE IN THE UPPER REAR BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, A RATTLING SOUND WAS PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION VTC SOLENOID AND CAM-PHASER WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER FORD COLLEGE STATION LOCATED AT 1351 EARL RUDDER FWY, COLLEGE STATION, TX 77845 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A MANUFACTURES FIELD SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
WE HAVE A 20018 FORD EXPEDITION PLATINUM, 2WD (REAR WHEEL DRIVE). BOUGHT BRAND NEW. FOR THE PAST MONTH WE'VE BEEN HAVING WHAT SEEMS LIKE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. CAR HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT. A FEW TIMES A DAY THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT AT ALL; ESSENTIALLY GOES IN-BETWEEN GEARS, REVS HIGH, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO MOVEMENT. USUALLY SOON AFTER MOVING FROM A START, SO MAYBE 2ND TO 3RD GEAR OR 3RD TO 4TH GEAR. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CARE BEING HOT OR COLD. IT IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE ONE OF THE TIMES, I HAD PULLED OUT FROM A GAS STATION ONTO A HIGHWAY, ACCELERATING NORMALLY TO KEEP UP WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH I LOST ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS. ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING. THERE WAS NO TIRE SLIPPING - JUST NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER. TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER (GOLDEN CIRCLE FORD) IN JACKSON TN WHERE THEY EVALUATED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY APPARENTLY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND DROVE IT; AND WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY GAVE ME A RIDICULOUS EXPLANATION THAT THE VEHICLE IS 'LEARNING' (AKA "ADAPTING") TO MY DRIVING STYLE AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR. THAT WAS LAST WEEK. SINCE THEN, THE SHIFTING BETWEEN LOW GEARS HAS BECOME SOMEONE ROUGHER/ WITH SOME HESITANCY. I DID RESEARCH THESE VEHICLE AND APPARENTLY THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE 10 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS NOW BEING USED IN THE F150 TRUCKS WITH MANY PEOPLE DESCRIBING SIMILAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL ISSUE, THAT CAN ALSO BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE CAR STOPS MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THANK YOU.
OUR 208 FORD EXPEDITION PLATINUM 4X4 PUTS OUT A VERY HIGH AMOUNT OF CARBON MONOXIDE, TO THE POINT THAT IT MAKES MY CHILDREN SICK. AFTER VERY LITTLE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH OUR VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD WITH THEIR FORD EXPLORERS.
I UNDERSTAND THE WELDS FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP MAY FRACTURE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD REPAIRED, RUNNING ROUGH ON START UP PLUS WHITE SMOKE FROM TAIL PIPE. I BELIEVE THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM OCCURRING, AS BEFORE IN APRIL 2019. IT IS FEBRUARY 2021, AND AND RUNNING AS BEFORE. THEY TORN MY ENGINE DOWN, KEEPING FOR 4-5 DAYS.
EXPEDITION WILL NOT TOW BUMPER PULL TRAILER, 2000LBS. ENTIRE TRUCK SHAKES TERRIBLY, DEALER CANNOT FIX AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES INCLUDING LAST WEEK, CROSSROADS FORD, DOESN'T KNOW THE CAUSE, AGREES ITS TERRIBLE, UNUSABLE, DANGEROUS.HAS BEEN WORKED ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE A FARM, CANNOT GET HAY ETC. CANNOT TRAILER HORSES, ETC. HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE TRAILERS, SAME PROBLEM. $65,000 TRUCK THAT CAN'T MEET MY BUSINESS NEEDS. WHAT WILL FORD DO ABOUT THIS?
FRONT STRUTS ARE LEAKING AT 38,000 MILES. VEHICLE WAS NEVER TAKEN OFF ROAD. DRIVER IS MILD AT USE OF VEHICLE. FEEL THAT THE STRUTS SHOULD NOT FAIL BEING THIS NEW OF VEHICLE AND LOW MILEAGE. REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART TAKES TIME TO RECEIVE, THERE ARE BACKORDERS. IS THERE A DEMAND FOR THIS PART THROUGH THE COUNTRY THAT THERE MAY BE A LARGER PROBLEM WITH THIS PART WHICH CONTROLS THE STABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. IS FORD TRYING TO SWEEP UNDER THE RUG A PART PROBLEM WHICH WOULD REQUIRE ANOTHER RECALL. INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO FORD BUT THEY SAID IT IS NOT COVERED BY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANY.
MY 2018 FORD EXPEDITION MAX 4X4 WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE ISSUE DESCRIBED IN TCB-20-2315 IN AUG 2019. THE REPAIR WAS DONE PER THE TCB AND COMPLETED IN OCT 2019. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 10 WEEKS AND I HAD TO RETURN IT 4 TIMES FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS UNTIL THE ISSUE WAS TEMPORARILY RESOLVED. THE PROBLEM REOCCURED IN JUL 2020 AND IT TOOK OVER 5 VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INTERVENTION FROM FORD CUST SERVICE TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED IN DEC 2020. I HAVE ALREADY RETURNED THE VEHICLE AGAIN THIS TIME BECAUSE THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED AND NOW WILL NEED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE A THIRD TIME. THIS WILL MAKE 7 TOTAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE FIXED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. FORD REFUSES TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE AND DENIED MY BUYBACK REQUEST. THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURES PER STATE LAW IN NOTIFYING FORD AND ALLOWING THEM TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. CLEARLY, THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AND THE REPAIR JUST COMPLETED IS JUST A REPEAT OF THE FIRST. THIS TIME, I WAS ON VACATION WITH MY FAMILY IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIA IN THE DEAD OF WINTER WITH WINDCHILLS OF MINUS 15 DEGREES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND POWER TRAIN LIGHTS CAME ON, THE TURBO SHUT DOWN, AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE. WE COULD BARELY MAINTAIN SPEED ON INCLINES AND HAD TO STOP FOR LOW OIL PRESSURE MULTIPLE TIMES. WE COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH NO CELL RECEPTION. A PROBLEM I ANTICIPATED AND EXPRESSED TO FORD WHEN I RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOR THE SIXTH ATTEMPT. I WANT THE VEHICLE REPLACED WITH THE SAME VEHICLE THAT IS NOT DEFECTIVE. THAT IS ALL. WHY IS THIS SUCH A CHALLENGE FOR FORD TO SOLVE? I HAVE LITERALLY INVESTED HUNDREDS OF HOURS ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE THIS NIGHTMARE. ATTACHED IS THE LETTER I SENT FORD IN SEP 2020. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE OPERATED SAFELY AND IS STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY. I AM NOW WITHOUT A CAR.
THIS IS OUR SECOND WINTER WITH THIS VEHICLE AND BOTH SEASONS DURING WINTER TEMPERATURES THE RIGHT REAR DOOR WILL NOT LATCH TO STAY SHUT. WE HAVE SMALL CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN THE REAR OF THIS VEHICLE, SO THIS MAKES THIS MUCH MORE OF A CONCERN. MY HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC AND TRIES EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT WORK AND IT HAS BEEN A HUGE HASSLE. ESPECIALLY FOR SUCH A NEW, EXPENSIVE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS AS WE ARE UNABLE TO GO ANYWHERE WITH A DOOR THAT WILL NOT SHUT!
FORD EXPEDITION WAS TRAVELLING AT 50-60KM/HR WHILE PASSING AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY. THE EXPEDITION WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A UTILITY VAN TRAVELLING AROUND 110KM/HR. BOTH FRONT SEATS SLID FORWARD AND ALSO RECLINED ON IMPACT. THIS CAUSED BOTH FRONT PASSENGERS TO SUSTAIN BRUISING ON THEIR CALF'S DUE TO THE SEATS SLIDING FORWARD AND WHIPLASH FROM BOTH FRONT SEATS RECLINING. BOTH FRONT SEATS TRAPPED CHILDREN IN THEIR CAR SEATS IN THE 2ND ROW FORM BEING RECLINED. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE ACCIDENT AS WELL!
WITH 39,402 MILES AT ALMOST EXACTLY 2 YEARS OLD,, THE RIGHT REAR STRUT HAS LEAKED ALL FLUID. NO ACCIDENTS, NO TOWING, NO DAMAGE TO THE STRUT. PER THE DEALER, THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE SOME ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. FORD IS NOT COVERING THIS IF NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY.
25000 MILES. PREVIOUSLY QUIET ON STARTUP. STARTED MAKING A RATTLING SOUND IF VEHICLE SAT OVERNIGHT A MONTH AGO. INITIALLY LASTED 1-2 SECONDS. MORE RECENTLY SOUND HEARD ON STARTUP AFTER SITTING ONLY A FEW HOURS, AND LASTS 4-5 SECONDS. SIMILAR TO COMPLAINTS REPORTED ON ISSUE 15-0131 ON 2015-ERA FORD PRODUCTS NEEDING CAM PHASER, TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT AND SCAN TOOL REPROGRAMMING. NOISE IS LOUD ENOUGH NOW THAT I FEAR ACCELERATING TIMING CHAIN DAMAGE POSSIBLE FAILURE.
I TOOK MY 2018 EXPEDITION (WITH 40K MILES ON IT) IN LAST WEEK BECAUSE THE RIDE HAS BEEN REALLY BOUNCY LATELY DURING NORMAL STREET AND HIGHWAY DRIVING AND MY WIFE AND KIDS HAVE COMPLAINED. I HAVE NOTICED THE BOUNCINESS TOO WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A NEW PHENOMENON FOR MY VEHICLE BUT IN RESEARCHING ONLINE IS NOT A NEW ISSUE AND FORD IS AWARE, JUST NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE ARE 7 (NOW 8) COMPLAINTS ABOUT STRUTS/SUSPENSION FOR THE 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. MORE DETAIL IS BELOW. THE DEALER CALLED ME TODAY (SIX DAYS AFTER DROPPING IT OFF) AND SAYS ALL FOUR OF THE STRUT ASSEMBLIES NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE LEAKING AND IT WILL COST ~$1700 PLUS TAX. I SAID STRUTS ARE COVERED UNDER MY PREMIUM CARE EXTENDED WARRANTY (NOT TO MENTION I AM JUST PAST 36K MILES FOR NORMAL WARRANTY - SO IT COULD BE AN AFTER WARRANTY ITEM TOO AS I'VE NEVER REPLACED STRUTS ON ANY CAR). WHEN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WENT TO ENTER THE STRUT CODE INTO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SYSTEM, STRUTS AREN'T AN OPTION CODE, BUT SHOCKS ARE. THE PROBLEM IS SHOCKS AREN'T COVERED AND THEY CAN'T FIND A CODE TO GET THE STRUT ASSEMBLY COVERED. THE ONLY PARTS THAT FORD SELLS FOR THE SUSPENSION ARE LABELED SHOCK ABSORBERS, AND STRUTS ARE NOT A SOLD OPTION. THE DEALER THINKS FORD SHOULD COVER AS THEY BELIEVE IT FALLS UNDER THE WARRANTY .MY PREMIER CARE CONTRACT AND THE PREMIER CARE BROCHURE SAYS STRUTS ARE COVERED, AS WELL. IT APPEARS FORD IS TRYING TO AVOID RESPONSIBILITY. SO I HAVE AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR SO THE CAR IS DRIVEABLE (I AM GETTING BRAKES AND NORMAL MAINTENANCE DONE TOO). NOT TO MENTION I AM SUPPOSED TO DRIVE MY SON TO COLLEGE ON FRIDAY. THIS IS CAUSING ME TO RENT A SUBURBAN AND SHELL OUT ANOTHER $400 FOR THAT PLEASURE.
POWER TRAIN FAILURE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 800 MILES INTO A ROAD TRIP. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS IN EXTREME STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AFTER RECENTLY EXITING THE INTERSTATE. VEHICLE STARTED DOWNSHIFTING EXTREMELY ROUGHLY, JERKING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FORWARD AND TRANSMISSION STARTED TO OVERHEAT. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE ROUGH UP SHIFTING SINCE PURCHASE BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME ANY INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS 36,000 MILES.
WAS HIT BY A VEHICLE WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ON A CITY STREET. TRIED TO STOP THE CAR. BREAKS WOULD NOT WORK AND JUST WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. VEHICLE SPED UP. JUMPED 2 CURBS AND HAD TO THROW THE CAR IN PARK IN ORDER TO STOP. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
AT 20,000 MILES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, BOTH FRONT END STRUTS WERE LEAKING AND REQUIRED WARRANTY REPLACEMENT BY DEALER. I HAVE SINCE READ ABOUT MANY PROBLEMS WITH FORD EXPEDITION STRUTS FALLING PREMATURELY. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES A CROSS TRAFFIC SYSTEM FAULT, BLIND SPOT SYSTEM FAULT AND THE LIFTGATE OR LIFTGLASS TO INDICATE THAT IT IS AJAR. HEN THESE FAULT THE SAFETY SYSTEMS ARE INOPERATIVE AND POSE A SAFETY CONCERN. THIS OCCURS WHILE IN MOTION AT BOTH ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
UPON STARTUP, THE DASHBOARD MONITOR WILL NOT LIGHT UP AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. THIS INCLUDES NO BACKUP CAMERAS, RADIO, MAPPING FEATURE, OR HANDS FREE BLUETOOTH ON THE MONITOR, WHILE THE DASHBOARD (DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL AREA) FLASHES ON/OFF THAT "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK", OR "OIL NEEDS TO BE CHANGED", YET THE TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN PARK. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES TO MANUALLY PUT THE CAR INTO "DRIVE" IT WILL FINALLY START MOVING FORWARD WITH A GRINDING SOUND, BEFORE COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THIS SEQUENCE OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES, UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY AGAIN. IT SOMETIMES TAKES 4-5 ATTEMPTS OVER 5-10 MINUTES TO GET THE CAR MOVING WITH ALL ITEMS WORKING PROPERLY. IT SEEMS ELECTRICAL, SINCE IT ALWAYS INVOLVES BOTH THE DASH MONITOR AND THE TRANSMISSION AT THE SAME TIME.
THE RETRACTABLE/AUTOMATIC RUNNING BOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE INTERMITTENTLY DROPS DOWN WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AND IN A STATIONARY POSITION FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. (IE. 2-3 HOURS AT REST) WHEN I RESTART THE VEHICLE AND OPEN/CLOSE THE DOORS, THEN SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, THE RETRACTABLE RUNNING BOARDS WILL GO BACK UP WHERE THEY BELONG...MOST OF THE TIME. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE (CRONIN FORD - HARRISON, OHIO) IN THE FALL OF 2019 AND THEY REPLACED THE RETRACTABLE RUNNING BOARD MOTOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. IN MARCH OF 2020, IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN, AFTER THE VEHICLE IS AT REST FOR 2-3 HOURS. I AM PLANNING TO TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN, BUT I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL BECOME A RECURRING PROBLEM WELL AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD IS OVER.
TRANSMISSION SHIFT VERY HARD AND BANGS. TRANSMISSION IS CURRENTLY OUT AND BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 2 WEEKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH VEHICLE REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED TO CLOSE SECURELY. THE CONTACT WHO WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC PURCHASED THE PART AT GRAHAM AUTO MALL DEALER, (1515 W 4TH ST, MANSFIELD, OH 44906) AND REPLACED THE LOCKING MECHANISM HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MORE PREVALENT IN COLDER TEMPERATURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST CONNECTORS DETACHED FROM THE REAR WINDOW, WHICH MEANS THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST SOLDER HAS DETACHED. THE FIRST TIME WAS THE DRIVER SIDE. I TOOK IT IN, AND OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP FIXED IT WITH A GLUE-ON REPAIR KIT. THE SECOND TIME IT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS CURRENTLY IN WARRANTY JAIL AGAIN AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP SO THEY CAN ATTEMPT TO FIX IT.
IN COLDER TEMPERATURES, THE ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR MECHANISMS FREEZE UP AND DO NOT ALLOW THE PASSENGERS TO EXIT OR ENTER THE VEHICLE. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES THAT I HAVE HAD TO CRAWL TO THE BACK SEAT TO GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO TURN OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE STARTED INTERMITTENTLY AND WORSENED. THE CONTACT CALLED DICK SMITH FORD OF COLUMBIA (7201 GARNERS FERRY RD, COLUMBIA, SC 29209, (803) 254-4000) AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS25128240. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,736.
DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, THE FORD DEALER FOUND ALL FOUR OF MY SUSPENSION STRUTS WERE LEAKING. UNLESS THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED FROM 50 FEET IN THE AIR, THERE IS NO REASON FOUR STRUTS SHOULD BE LEAKING. IT HAS TO BE DEFECTIVE STRUTS.
THE VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE DOWN SHIFTING FROM 5TH GEAR TO 4TH GEAR. IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ACTUALLY SHAKE AND FEELS AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS JARRED. IT IS WORSE WHEN YOU HAVE THE BREAK APPLIED TO COME TO A STOP. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE NEW 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND IT'S FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. HOWEVER IT'S VERY ALARMING WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND STARTLES PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE.
THE SIDE-VIEW MIRRORS ON THE 2018 FORD EXPEDITION PLATINUM ARE DEFECTIVE. WHEN ADJUSTING THE MIRROR TO A PRE-PROGRAMMED NUMBER, THE MIRRORS WILL START TO ADJUST THEMSELVES AND UNFORTUNATELY WILL GET STUCK IN AN ENDLESS LOOP OF MOVING, CLICKING, MOVING, CLICKING, ETC... THE MIRROR FAILS TO ADJUST TO THE PROPER LOCATION AND THE MIRROR MOTOR CAN'T BE STOPPED UNTIL THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF (I.E. OPENING AND CLOSING THE DRIVER-SIDE DOOR. I'M SURE IF THE MOTOR ON THE MIRROR WAS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO ADJUST ITSELF IN AN ENDLESS LOOP, IT COULD POSE A FIRE HAZARD (NOT TO MENTION THE FUNCTION ITSELF IS FAULTY). THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING MANY OTHERS ON FORUMS ARE STARTING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS NOT OFFERED TO RESOLVE IT FOR ANY OF ITS CUSTOMERS. THIS ISSUE CAN OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STATIONARY.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2018 EXPEDITION ARE AWFUL. THEY ARE FAR TOO DIM AND DISTANCE COVERAGE IS FAR TOO SHORT. THEY HAVE A SHARP CUT OFF THAT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE SOMETHING IS IN THE WAY OF THEM. THE BRIGHTS ARE BETTER, BUT NOT NEARLY WHAT THEY SHOULD BE FOR A 2018, $60K+ VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. NOT CONFIDENT THAT I WOULD SEE SOMETHING IN THE ROAD WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME TO SAFELY AVOID IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO O. C. WELCH FORD LINCOLN (LOCATED AT 4920 INDEPENDENCE BLVD, HARDEEVILLE, SC 29927, (843) 288-0100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR EVAPORATORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,730. *AS
EVEN THOUGH I HAVE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, IT STILL MOVES AND HAS HIT ME AND SOME OF THE PASSENGERS GETTING OUT THE CAR WITH THE DOORS AND OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE ALMOST RUNNING US OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK ACCORDING TO DIAL. HOWEVER, IT STILL MOVED.
VEHICLE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE/RIM/CYLINDER HAS A POPPING SOUND. IT POPS AS IF THE CALIBER OR BRAKES HAVE SOMETHING BROKE OR DIRT IN IT. I CAN HEAR THIS WHEN DRIVING SLOW AND WHEN IN REVERSE BACKING UP. ONLY HEAR SOUND WHEN DRIVING. BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND OR FIX THIS PROBLEM.
2018 FORD EXPEDITION FX4 LOADED. UNDER 10,000 MILES REAR SHOCKS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE PLACED. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HEAVY DUTY WITH FX4 PACKAGE. NO OFF ROAD USE. NO TOWING. NO HEAVY LOADING. CAREFUL LARGE CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. CAREFUL BREAK-IN AND NO HITS, HARD CONTACTS, OR OTHER IMPACTS OR CONDITIONS. REPLACED WITH OEM FROM FORD. BUT IF DEFECTIVE THEN LIKELY THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WILL BE DEFECTIVE AS WELL. $65,000 VEHICLE. 55 YEARS OF OWNING MANY VEHICLES INCLUDING 2 WRANGLERS, 3 4X4 HONDA PILOTS, 4X4 NISSANS, MERCEDES, ETC., NEVER HAD ANY SHOCK LEAKS AT ANY MILEAGE OR WITH ANY USE INCLUDING TOWING AND OFF ROADING. FORD MUST BE BUYING DEFECTIVE CHINA MADE PARTS.
THE SEATBELTS ON THE OUTSIDE 2ND ROW SEATS WILL NOT FIT BIGGER PEOPLE BECAUSE ONLY THE LAP BELT PORTION OF THE ASSEMBLY IS TOO SHORT. THIS SEAT BELT INFLATED OVER THE VERTICALS PORTION OF THE BELT SO IT CANNOT USE AN EXTENDER. THE SOLUTION IS TO LENGTHEN THE LAP PORTION OF THE SEATBELT. TWICE, THIS VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN WITH PERSONS IN THAT SEAT WITHOUT A SEATBELT BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT FIT. INVESTIGATION REVEALS THESE SEATBELTS ARE MADE FOR TEENS, HOWEVER THEY SHOULD FIT ANYONE RIDING IN THE SEAT. WE ASKED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER THEY QUICKLY CANCELLED OUR CASE. I CALLED AND RE-OPENED THE CASE. # CAS-21718846-M4J6B6. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHILE THE TWO PERSONS WERE UNABLE TO USE THE SEATBELTS. NOTE: THE LAP PORTION OF THE SEATBELT IS NOT INFLATABLE, AND IS TOO SHORT, WHILE THE INFLATABLE PORTION IS THE VERTICALS PART AND IS PLENTY LONG AND WOULD FIT ANYONE. THE LAP PORTION NEEDS TO BE LENGTHENED.
SPEEDOMETER IS READING INCORRECTLY, DOES NOT MATCH GPS REPORTED SPEED OR THE PLAY PLACE OFFICERS SPEED WHEN HE CLOCKED ME GOING 13 MILES AN HOUR OVER THE SPEED MY ADAPTIVE CRUISE WAS SET AT. CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 76 MILES AN HOUR AND MY PHONE WAS NOT ON THE GAS, THE GPS ON MY MAP APPLICATION SHOWED I WAS GOING 87 MILES AN HOUR AND THAT IS THE SPEED THE POLICE OFFICER NOTED AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHUT OFF AND THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. ALSO, THE RUNNING BOARDS FAILED TO RETRACT AND THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVE CONTROL MALFUNCTION SERVICE REQUESTED, HILL DESCENT FAULT, ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL, REDUCED TORQUE, DRIVE CONTROL, PRE COLLISION ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THOROUGHBRED FORD (8501 N BOARDWALK AVE, KANSAS CITY, MO 64154, (816) 505-1818) AND SEEKINS FORD LINCOLN (1625 SEEKINS FORD DR, FAIRBANKS, AK 99701, (907) 459-4000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SENSOR NEEDED TO BE RESET AND THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS21880081. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500.
TAKATA RECALL. ON 4/29/19 THE 2ND ROW MIDDLE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED AFTER HAVING BEEN IN THE SHOP 2X FOR DIAGNOSIS. IT WOULD NOT RELEASE OUT TO BUCKLE. IT KEPT SNAGGING ON ITSELF INSIDE. ON 6/11/19 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO BE DIAGNOSED FOR BAD STRUT. TURNS OUT 3 OF THE 4 WERE BAD AND NEED REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPLACE THE 4TH STRUT EVEN THOUGH SHE STATED ITS BEEN A BIG PROBLEM LATELY. ALSO THE LIFT GATE WAS INSPECTED AS IT OPENS AND CLOSES ON ITS OWN PERIODICALLY. THEY COULD NOT GET THE LIFT GATE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND SINCE THE VEHICLE DIDNT THROW A CODE FOR IT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 6/19/19 TO HAVE THE 3 STRUTS REPLACED AND THE LIFT GATE CHECKED AGAIN.
FOLLOWING COMPUTER ISSUES THAT CAUSED THE FOLLOWING: BAD STEERING SENSOR (PLAY IN THE STEERING), TRACTION CONTROL WARNING, HILL DECENT WARNING, RUNNING BOARDS NOT WORKING, FORD SYNC FREEZING: RADIO, TEMP, BACK UP CAMERAS, PHONE NOT WORKING. MONITOR TURNS OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. MONITOR WILL NOT TURN OFF WHEN CAR PARKED.
TL* THE CONTACT LEASED A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS SPOUSE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 10-15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED BY EITHER DRIVERS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM THE SCENE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE RESIDENCE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES AND WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL BROWN FORD LOCATED AT 32222 PLYMOUTH RD, LIVONIA, MI 48150, (734) 399-4244, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED IN THE FOUR MONTHS SINCE THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE HAD REMAINED AT THE DEALER DUE TO THE ABS MODULE AND SOFTWARE NOT BEING AVAILABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. CASE NUMBER: 21685353. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
POOR ILLUMINATION FROM HEADLIGHTS. VISIBILITY AT NIGHT WITH EITHER HIGH OR LOW BEAMS IS UNACCEPTABLE. NOT EASY TO AVOID OBSTACLES LIKE DEER CROSSING THE HIGHWAY, DEBRIS OR OTHER HAZARDS.
I HAVE A WONDERFUL 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CAR, AND EXPECTED I WOULD, BECAUSE I DID RESEARCH BEFORE LEASING IT. THE ONE THING I DIDN'T DO, WHICH I'VE NEVER HAD TO DO IN ALL MY YEARS OF CAR BUYING OR LEASING, IS TEST DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHTTIME. THE STANDARD HALOGEN HEADLAMPS ARE AWFUL, AND DANGEROUS. I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING. MY GIRLFRIEND ALSO CAN'T SEE ANYTHING WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO ASSURED ME THAT EVERYTHING IS FUNCTIONING AS IT SHOULD. BUT I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A CAR WITH HEADLAMPS THIS DIM OR POORLY DESIGNED. ESPECIALLY FOR A CAR SO LARGE, THE PROJECTOR LAMP CUTOFF IS TOO SHARP AND TOO LOW. OF COURSE, USING THE HIGH BEAMS DOES BRING THE LIGHTNING TO NORMAL, BUT I AM BLINDING OTHER DRIVERS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD ASAP. IF YOU MONITOR WHAT'S OTHER EXPEDITION DRIVERS ARE SAYING IN ONLINE FORUMS, I GUARANTEE YOU WILL FIND THE SAME RESULT. THERE HASN'T BEEN AN ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT YET, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR AT NIGHT, OR EVEN TO BE AROUND OTHER PEOPLE DRIVING THE SAME CAR WITH STANDARD HALOGEN HEADLAMPS. IT'S NOT SAFE FOR THIS CAR TO BE ON THE ROAD WITH ITS CURRENT EQUIPMENT SETUP.
VEHICLE AS DELIVERED NEW FROM THE FACTORY HAD A VERY LOUD AND DISTINCT CLUNKING IN THE REAR SUSPENSION WHEN DRIVING. IT CLUNKS REPEATEDLY WITH EACH DOWNSHIFT OF THE 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND ONCE VERY HARD UPON ACCELERATION. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL RETAINER BUSHING HAD BEEN LEFT LOOSE AND NOT FULLY INSTALLED, ALLOWING THE WHOLE REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM TO ROTATE WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED. THIS RESULTED IN PREMATURE TIRE WEAR AND APPARENT FLUID LOSS IN THE SHOCK ABSORBERS. THE END RESULT IS A VEHICLE THAT HAS A VERY HARSH RIDE.
I WAS BACKING UP AND THE TRUCK TOOK OFF WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE ABOUT 15K IN DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE FOUND A FEW OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM
TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR OIL CHANGE AT A LOCAL MECHANIC. HE ADVISED ALL FOUR STRUTS ARE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 10,000 MILES ON IT. I WENT BACK TO FORD. THEY ADVISED THERE IS AN SS! BULLETIN AND THEY ARE ONLY SUPPOSED TO MONITOR THE ISSUE. A GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH EXPEDITIONS FOR YEARS. WHY ISN'T FORD RESOLVING THIS AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS AND FINDING A STRUT THAT WORKS PROPERLY?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO BOUNCE WHEN DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE. THE VEHICLE'S REAR WOULD ALSO BOUNCE SIDEWAYS WHEN MAKING TURNS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HIXSON FORD OF ALEXANDRIA (2506 S MACARTHUR DR, ALEXANDRIA, LA 71301, (318) 448-0871) WHERE THE REAR SHOCKS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6. *JS
THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. THE FIRST TIME WAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE - IT STARTED AFTER 30 MIN AND WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND NO ISSUES UNTIL 4 DAYS THEN IT OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND PARKED OVERNIGHT AND WOULDN'T START THE NEXT MORNING. THE BATTERY HAD ENOUGH POWER - JUMP STARTING DIDN'T HELP. THE 3 TOW TRUCK WAS FINALLY CALLED INTO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK UP TO THE PURCHASING DEALERSHIP. THEY DID A FULL REVIEW OF THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T FIND ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. THEN 4 WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOLLOWING SITTING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. AGAIN IT TOOK 4 TOW TRUCKS TO COME TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM WAS THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STAY IN NEUTRAL TO BE TOWED IT WOULD ALWAYS RETURN TO PARK. THE DEARSHIP THEN REPLACED THE STARTED AND SAID IT WAS THEN TAKEN CARE OF AND WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. THE EVENTS WERE SEPT 4TH - PURCHASE VEHICLE - 1ST EPISODE, SEPT 8TH - 2ND EPISODE, NOVEMBER 19TH - 3RD EPISODE
I BOUGHT THIS NEW EXPEDITION JUNE OF 2018. IT HAS PUT ITSELF INTO DEEP SLEEP MODE 8 TIMES. 06/11/18, 08/09/18, 08/19/18, 08/22/18 TWICE!, 10/13/18, 11/11/18, 02/06/19. EACH TIME IT HAD TO BE JUMPED WITH ANOTHER LARGE VEHICLE TO START IT UP. THE FIRST TIME WAS JUNE 11TH JUST DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. WE TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 MORE TIMES SINCE THEN AND THEY "CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG" THEY ARE NOW SAYING THEY WILL REPLACE THE BATTERY BUT I FEEL ITS SOMETHING WITH ALL THE NEW TECHNOLOGY IN THE CAR AND IT WILL STRAND ME AGAIN. I HAVE LUPUS AND IT HAS STRANDED ME IN 105 DEGREES AND FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SAID THE COULDN'T COME FOR 1 HOUR AND 45 MINUTES. I HAD TO HAVE A STRANGER TRY TO JUMP IT WITH A SMALL CAR AND IT WOULDN'T CHARGE, THEN A TUNDRA THAT THE MARINA MANAGER DROVE PULLED UP AND HE FINALLY GOT MY CAR GOING....I CAN;T DRIVE A CAR THAT HAS DONE THIS SO MANY TIMES AND THE FORD CORPORATION SAID IT DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR A REPLACEMENT. THEY WANT ME TO DRIVE AROUND WITH CABLES IN MY NEW $83K CAR AND DEPEND ON OTHERS TO HELP ME WHEN I AM STRANDED!! I AM DEALING WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMAX FORD IN KILLEEN TEXAS. THEY HAVE BEEN KIND BUT UNABLE TO HELP ME. THIS LAST OCCURRENCE WAS FEB. 6, 2019
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON WHICH MAY CAUSE THE AIRBAGS NOT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. WE HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT TO CAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD TURN ON. WE ARE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP LATER IN THE MONTH TO FIND OUT THE EXACT CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. BUT THE POTENTIAL OF AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BASS FAILING TO DEPLOY IS IN THE BACK OF MY MIND. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER NOW SO IT PREVENTS ANY FUTURE FAMILIES BEING AFFECTED.
HEADLIGHT POWER ON THE VEHICLE IS INADEQUATE, DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH FORWARD VISIBILITY. NOTICED AFTER PURCHASE OF VEHICLE IN DEC. 2018
ELECTRONIC DIAL SHIFTER WILL AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH FROM DRIVE TO PARK IF THE VEHICLE START STOP BUTTON IS DEPRESSED WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. THE PARKING BRAKE ALSO AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES ON AT THE SAME TIME. CONSIDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A 2018 FORD EXPEDITION IS TRAVELING ON A FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC AND THE START STOP BUTTON WERE ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED. THE CAR WOULD SHIFT INTO PARK, THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD ENGAGE AND THE DRIVER WOULD DECELERATE RAPIDLY FROM 65 MPH TO A STOP WITH NO NOTICE, LIKELY BEING REAR ENDED BY TRAFFIC IE; A SEMI TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTER SHOULD STAY IN THE SELECTED GEAR WHEN THE START STOP BUTTON IS DEPRESSED AS A CONVENTION SHIFTER WOULD, ELECTRIC OR MECHANICAL. I DETERMINED THIS AFTER GOING TO A CAR WASH, PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THEN DEPRESSING THE STOP BUTTON TO SAVE FUEL. THE CARIMMEDIATELY SHIFTED FROM NEUTRAL TO PARK AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. I TESTED THE DRIVE, START BUTTON OFF, IMMEDIATELY SWITCHES TO PARK ON A FLAT STREET AT ZERO SPEED. I REALIZED AS AN ENGINEER THAT IF THIS HAPPENED AT SPEED A FATAL ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR. FORD CAN REMOVE THIS RISK WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTING, LEAVING THE CAR IN THE SELECTED GEAR IF THE START STOP BUTTON IS DEPRESSED.
THE HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS IN MY 2018 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED ARE TOO DIM AND UNSAFE FOR ROADS THAT ARE NOT LIT OR FOR DRIVING IN THE RAIN ON ANY ROAD. I CANNOT SEE THE ROAD WELL AND I FEEL THAT THE HALOGEN BULBS ARE NOT A GOOD ENOUGH OPTION IN A 60K+ VEHICLE. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR CUTTING CORNERS AND NOT MAKING THE LED HEADLIGHT HOUSING STANDARD FOR ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES. THE FORD OEM HALOGEN BULBS ARE EXTREMELY DIM AND UNSAFE FOR CONSUMER USE. IF THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD, I DON'T THINK MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD GIVE ME ENOUGH NOTICE TO AVOID AN OBSTRUCTION. VERY UNSAFE.
THE TRUCK WAS BEING BACKED INTO A PARKING SPOT ,THE TRUCKS TURNED OFF I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO START THE TRUCK TO BACK UP AND IT PROPELLED INTO THE WALL OF THE ESTABLISHMENT THAT I WAS GOING INTO TO EAT DINNER CAUSING A GREAT DEAL OF DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING AND MY VEHICLE. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING LOOKED INTO. I HAVE A FAMILY AND WE ALL RIDE IN THIS TRUCK I WOULD NEVER WANT TO PUT THERE LIVES IN DANGER KNOWING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM GOING ON WITH THESE TRUCKS.
THE HALOGEN HEADLAMPS ON THE 2018 EXPEDITION ARE COMPLETELY INADEQUATE FOR A 2018 VEHICLE. THEY ARE DIM, AND THEY ARE ANGLED DOWN WITH A LOW CUTOFF. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADJUSTED THE LIGHTS AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE, WHICH DID NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. FORD OFFERS AN OPTIONAL LED HEADLAMP SYSTEM WHICH APPEARS SIGNIFICANTLY BRIGHTER AND SAFER, BUT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THESE ON THE DEALER LOTS. IT'S WILDLY IRRESPONSIBLE TO SELL A BRAND NEW VEHICLE FOR $65000 + THAT HAS HEADLIGHTS FROM THE 1990S. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT THIS SYSTEM CAN NOT BE RETROFITTED TO THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP MODELS. DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A ROAD WITHOUT STREET LIGHTS IS UNSAFE. YOU CAN'T SEE ROAD SIGNS, ONCOMING TRAFFIC, PEDESTRIANS ON THE ROAD, ETC. VISIBILITY IS LIMITED TO A VERY SHORT DISTANCE. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS NHTSA SITE ABOUT THE INADEQUATE LIGHTING, WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET FORD TO REPLACE THE HALOGEN LIGHTS WITH THE LED LIGHTS?
TODAY I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES ON MY 2018 FORD EXPEDITION EL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT BUILD ANY PRESSURE WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. TO ANSWER THE SPECIFICS REQUESTED BY NHTSA, THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 45MPH OR LESS ON A CITY STREET AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. THE ONLY WAY TO BUILD BRAKE PRESSURE WAS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND PUMP THE PEDAL. THIS VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD AND FOR HOW MUCH FORD CHARGES FOR A LIMITED EDITION EXPEDITION YOU EXPECT TO NOT HAVE YOUR BRAKES FAIL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, FORD! THANK GOD NOBODY WAS KILLED BY THIS MANUFACTURING FLAW.
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHINE VERY LOW AND NOT FAR ENOUGH AHEAD OF THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE ALSO VERY DIM.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE ABSOLUTELY THE WORST OF ANY CAR I'VE EVER DRIVEN. DID NIGHT DRIVING YESTERDAY; THE PERIPHERAL LIGHTING WAS VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT, AND I COULDN'T EVEN SEE MY DRIVEWAY FROM THE ROAD. THERE IS NO MENTION ON THE WINDOW STICKER ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF LIGHT FIXTURES THE CAR HAS. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT NIGHT, AND WILL LIMIT THIS EXPOSURE WHEN I CAN. TOTALLY UNSAFE IN THE DARK OF NIGHT. THE ROAD TO OUR PLACE IS UNLIGHTED AND KINDA COUNTRY . . . COULDN'T SEE THE DRIVEWAY AT 10MPH WITH THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHING
AFTER CALLING 3 FORD DEALERS AROUND KANSAS CITY MO. THEY ALL TOLD ME THAT FORD DOES NOT HAVE SEAT BELT EXTENSION FOR 2018 EXPEDITION.
PURCHASED NEW 2018 EXPEDITION FX4 XLT WOTH CLASS IV TOWING PACKAGE AND OTHER OPTIONS RELYING ON FORD, ITS DEALERS, AND FORD'S PR, THAT VEHICLE COULD TOW TRAILERS UP TO CERTAIN WEIGHT. BUT, ONCE WENT TO PURCHASE TRAVEL TRAILER TO TOW, DISCOVER THAT FINE PRINT HARD TO FIND FORD DISCLOSURE HAD FAR LOWER TOWING LIMITS UNLESS PURCHASE ADDITIONAL EXPENSIVE TOWING OPTIONS. ALSO, VEHICLE LACKS TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER THAT IS REQUIRED IN MANY PLACES BY LAW AND NECESSARY TO TOW ALMOST ANYTHING SAFELY. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT BUYERS WILL NOT KNOW THE FOREGOING AND TOW RESULTING IN DANGEROUS RISKS AND POTENTIAL THIRD PERSON INJURIES/DEATHS IN CRASHES INVOLVING THE TOWING OF HEAVY TRAILERS WITH NO BRAKE CONTROLLERS.
RECENTLY I RENTED A FORD EXPEDITION. MUCH OF THE DRIVING WAS IN AN AROUND THE MOUNTAINS SURROUNDING YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. WHILE I FOUND THE VEHICLE EASY TO DRIVE THERE IS ONE GLARING SAFETY ISSUE CONCERNING THE ABILITY TO DOWNSHIFT. ONE MUST TAKE THEIR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO LOCATE THE + OR - BUTTONS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE TO CHANGE GEARS. THESE BUTTONS SHOULD BE LOCATED ON THE STEERING WHEEL. NOT ON THE CENTER CONSOLE.
CPSC: THE PURPORTED PURPOSE OF FORD'S 'PROJECTOR' HEADLIGHT DESIGN WAS TO INCREASE LUMENS WHILE DECREASING POWER CONSUMPTION. INSTEAD OF THE HEADLIGHT (AS WITH 'NORMAL' LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS) BEING AIMED AWAY FROM ONCOMING VEHICLES AND DISPLAYING THE ENTIRE ROAD AHEAD, THE HEADLIGHT ROAD VISIBILITY (AS VIEWED BY THE DRIVER THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD) HAS A DISTINCT, HORIZONTAL LINE ABOVE WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY DARK AND BELOW IS LIT. *DT *JS *TT
2018 FORD EXPEDITION. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BEING SEVERELY UNDER POWERED HAVING ONLY A 6-CYLINDER ENGINE IN A VEHICLE SO LARGE. *LD *JS
