While driving after a snow storm 1/29/2022 I had the heat up in the SUV I started smelling something burning. I then lowered the heat and the smell became less. I recently purchased this vehicle as a pre own on December 3rd 2021.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH and exiting the highway, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond and the vehicle started jerking. The oil warning light was illuminated. The contact continued to depress the brake until the vehicle responded. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
Catastrophic engine failure due to loss of oil pressure without warning at highway speeds. Traveling approximately 70mph on the freeway. Engine develops a rapid knock in sync with engine RPM's and immediate loss of power. At the same moment, I exited the freeway. As I left off the accelerator to apply the brake, the engine stalls completely. Once stopped, I checked the engine oil, which was within specifications. Had vehicle towed to a mechanic and diagnosed as engine failure due to loss of oil pressure. Before this, the engine regularly consumed 2-3 quarts of oil per oil change starting at approximately 45,000 miles. Catalytic convertor has been replaced once due to being plugged by consumed oil. Hyundai fails to remedy.
When merging into traffic, the car lost all acceleration and the transmission revved to a very high rpm. This has been an ongoing problem since the car was purchased. The dealer keeps saying they “cannot replicate”. This car is going to kill me.
My engine has locked up on me and stalled because of water in the oil. I was never informed about this “knock sensor” update for Hyundai that would have prevented all this in the first place. I’ve had to come out of pocket for 2 tow trips and loaner car all while my vehicle is under 5 year/ or 60,000 mile warranty!! Now this apparent “America’s best warranty” local dealership is trying to tell me that my repairs are not covered under the warranty and I would have to pay $10,000 out of pocket for the repairs! This is going on 3 months now and still no one has contacted me and no one is helping me. That vehicle is my ONLY source of transportation to and from work an hour away! I am unsatisfied with my Hyundai Tucson and the false advertisement for claiming to be “America’s best warranty” and for not providing a safe reliable vehicle like Hyundai promises!
A connecting rod bearing was thrown through the engine block causing it to stall out on the freeway. This is exactly what is occurring with vehicles in the Theta Class Action Settlement but the company states my VIN number is not included.
Rod bearing failure. Sounded like a tractor all of a sudden and stalled every time I’d come to a stop. Had it towed to the dealership. Awaiting word from Hyundai as to whether the warranty will cover this. Checked oil and wasn’t low. No check engine lights or oil lights or anything ever came on. No noises prior to this happening. Kept up on routine maintenance.
I bought my 2018 tuscon one year ago in June 2020. 70,000 miles on it now, regular maintenance. No warning lights, everything was running OK. I started experiencing hesitation taking off then lunging when stopped in the last few months. Now I'm sitting in the driveway because it won't start. Realized oil was low which is odd because I've noticed it's been burning more than previous but no more than a quart so it's not like it was dry. I'm supposed to be able to get 5k on an oil change now adays but starts running poorly if it's not changed by 3k. Needless to say iadded qt of oil I was going to get oil changed yesterday but wouldn't start. I changed the battery, still won't start, starter was tested good, fuses all in tack, changed camshaft sensors at 90 dollars a piece still nothing. Check alternator that's fine. It clicks one time but have all lights power everywhere it should. In 2 days I've spent 215 on a battery, 200 with tax on sensors, 50 code reader no code by the way. Did have p0014 which indicated need for either oil change or camshaft sensor. Nothing. I'm a sitting duck and all the things I've experience are what they experienced in the theta engines like hesitated, burning oil, ticking sounds, lunging etc. GDI isn't any better. I hate this car. After this one is paid off and I guess put a new engine in I'll be getting rid of it. Going back to a solid Buick. I'll never buy another hyundai. This is the second vehicle with engine problems we bought. Not to mention the risk of for but hyundai near me hasn't been able to get the parts for over a year. I'm currently in a wait list.
Emission light is on and called dealer for an appointment, stated they will called me when they can line me up with a tech and I still waiting.
In many Instances, I come close to get involved in accident. I cannot apply HARD BRAKING. When the hard braking is applied, I feel my foot is touching the ground and the brake cable is going to break. It is very scary and unsafe.
Buy brand new off lot. Never miss Regular maintenance on engine oil and filters. Car had only 55200 miles. After 500 miles regular oil interval maintenance. Car underbody show no oil leaks anywhere on 12/05/2021 park on driveway. This morning Car not start without oil indicator or engine light warning comes up. Open hood up, check oil dip stick show no oil residue. Yike, where is low oil warning light sensor when no oil in engine. Apparently it not working or never have it on in my opinion. Gotta be recall issue for this. So I ran to Walmart get a quart of sythenic oil recommended and fill it up. Car start up find and drive ok for now. Not sure in future. This is a must recall on No Oil Indicator Sensor Malfunction!!!!!!!!!
Purchased new on 5/30/2018. 3/2021 I noticed shaking, noises, pinging, whining sounds and vibration coming from engine as I turn engine on / off and in drive. 3/24/2021 I brought vehicle for inspection. Service Advisor felt the shaking, vibrations and heard the pinging / noises and whining sounds as I turned the vehicle off. Vehicle went for oil change and inspection, stayed overnight and no fault found, service bay stated they could not reproduce the occurrence. The sensations worsened and I brought vehicle back on 3/30/2021 for inspection as I did not feel safe driving vehicle. 4/02/2021 dealer said the sensations could not be detectable and it was suggested that maybe the Turbo dual clutch engine. 10/15/2021 the air conditioner failed. Brought vehicle in for inspection. Service performed diagnostic testing on vehicle and found internal failure on a/c compressor. New compressor was ordered and replaced. Replacement air conditioner is not as powerful or cold as original part. Vehicle is still making pinging, whining, vibrations. 11/29/2021, engine light came on. I reversed out of a parking spot and it felt different. Put gear in drive and immediately the gas pedal went to half way to floor and the vehicle jerked and then seemed to catch the gear. Then the pedal went to the floor and there was no go, then it kicked in. Repeated multiple times. Tried reverse and there was none. No rpm movement and quickly came a strong burning smell. Had vehicle towed dealer. All vehicle services are current and up to date.
Recall was corrected via el cajon hyundai, however not updated with nhtsa website.
My engine blew on the freeway. And we believe it to be a rod bearing issue. Regular oil changes and maintenance done since I owned it. It is currently at the dealership awaiting to hopefully be repaired through extended warranty. The service lot was filled with Tucson's and the service repair man said it was the same issue in all of them. This is a major safety concern as engine failure anywhere on the road can lead to accidents and stalling vehicles. Upon the engine failure, there were no engine lights or any signs that this was going to happen. My car stopped accelerating so I began to pull over and before I could get fully over, all of the engine lights started flashing and the engine began smoking. I just don't want this to continue to happen as this is clearly an ongoing issue, there was a recall with the rod bearing in the 2017 2.0 model, which is my model but being a 2018. I appreciate your time in reviewing this and hope it catches some attention.
With 2018, Hyundai Tucson, I was accelerating on the highway coming off of an exit ramp. I was on my way to the dealership to investigate a knocking sound I just started hearing with the engine. Suddenly, the engine failed completely and I started to smell burning. I was able to roll into the shoulder and have my car towed to the dealership. An engine light came on a few miles before the engine failed, but I had no warnings at the start of the trip. Car was at 60,000 miles.

The vehicle almost stalls and doesn't want to take off 1st thing in the morning then suddenly it accelerates abruptly well above the amount of pedal pushed. It also has inconsistent shifts at anytime during a drive. Sometimes it won't shift until we leave off the gas. This has been twice in for diagnosis at Rom Marhofer in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. Both times they tell us--they could not get the vehicle to produce the symptoms. It does this everyday of the week for us--everyday. The service writer says this is common for the dual clutch transmission. This is a safety issue with not having power to move then suddenly--wham.
About 6 months of owning this vehicle, I started noticing while sitting in traffic that when letting off of the brake the car would start to jerk as you gave it a little throttle. I took the car to the Hyundai in Glendora where I purchased the vehicle from and they stated that there was nothing wrong with it. The issue continues to this day and I have voiced the complaint each time I bring the Vehicle in for maintenance. One of the service techs said that they felt the hesitation with the transmission but said that it was not bad enough to fix per Hyundai policy. This car is equipped with the Dual Clutch Transmisson because of the turbo. I have been dealing with this problem now for about 2 1/2 years and I feel that it is a safety issue being that the jerkiness and the hesitation could cause a crash. I actually talked to someone at another dealership and he told me that there was a Class Action Suit for this problem and to go that route. I just want Hyundai to own up to the problem and fix the issue.
Hyundai has historically had an issue with the dual-clutch transmission and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle frequently shutters / shakes at a stop and when accelerating from a stop. Additionally, the vehicle occasionally loses power to the wheels when driving-up a moderately steep grade. Additionally, the vehicle has delayed acceleration when trying to increase speed from a constant speed. This has put my safety and the safety of others at risk by being unable to properly accelerate into a turn while driving at highway speed, by being unable to keep up with the speed of traffic while driving on the interstate in the mountains, by being unable to drive in adverse weather, and by not being able to account for the jolting of the vehicle in busy city traffic. I've taken it to two manufacturer dealerships who have ran a shutter test and could not generate an error message, but acknowledged the effects felt when driving the vehicle and the commonality of the problem. They said their hands are tied if the manufacturer's testing generates a pass result. There have not been any warning lamps or messages. To date, I have been unable to come to a resolution, but the vehicle is dangerous to drive.

The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer for four months and recently informed her that her engine needed to be replaced; she was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
Bought car on 7/14/2021 with 43,200 miles - on September 18, 2021 the car stopped working on the highway. Towed to dealership and after 7 days in the lot was told it had a cracked engine block. Over 2 weeks later they still have no idea when the replacement block will be in and when the vehicle will be fixed. Can't offer a loaner even though warranty calls for them to supply one.
The Engine check engine light activated and within a few miles while accelerating from a stop sign the engine had very little power, just missed a colision by cross traffic. Upon inspection the engine had very little engine oil. There was no indication of low oil pressure, and the oil was changed at regular intervals as recommended by Hyundai. This vehicle HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN IT IS GETTING VERY LOW UNTIL THE ENGINE FAILS TO RESPOND.
My 2018 Hyundai Tuscon has been having major issues with the dual clutch transmission, which has put myself, my family, and others in very dangerous situations. Everyday when I start my Tuscon and accelerate, it stutters/jerks like it’s going to stall and will not accelerate/shift. It eventually starts going, but I have to pull out onto a street, which has been unsafe when cars are speeding up behind me. It does not go up hills well at all. I turned onto a road where there was a decent sized hill, but nothing major, and nothing an SUV should have a problem with. My previous CAR could drive it just fine. You’d think an SUV could as well. Nope. Very scary moment. My Tuscon made it not even half way, and just stopped. I was pressing the gas, and it just revved it up with no motion. I braked and tried it again, and it still would not go. I had to roll backwards down the hill. This was the only way to my destination. I rolled down, and put it in sport mode to try that. It still would not go, and did the same thing. I tried again in regular mode, and it still would not go, only this time I had a car behind me. The car had to back down, and I rolled back a little bit, then hit the gas in drive and it eventually made it, but definitely very scary and unsafe, and it put others in danger as well. I was going to church one morning, and the speed limit on the main road is 60, which is what I was driving. I had to slow down to turn, and had to stop to oncoming traffic. I had to brake for maybe 10 seconds, and when I went to accelerate, it was like it wasn’t shifting, and it just revved up, rolled slightly, and would not go. At this point there are more cars coming. I am in the road right In their path due to it rolling, and once again I am put in a very scary situation. I kept trying, and it FINALLY went. This was also on flat level ground. I have had many moments (every day) where it does not shift properly, and it also stutters every single day when I start it. Please fix this
Vehicle has judder at slow speeds or hesitation in shifting gears. Has almost stalled while making a left turn at intersection into oncoming traffic or accelerating after stop sign . Dealer updated TCU ECM software, problem got worse. Appears to be a dual clutch transmission defect.
On 18 August 2021, I had a recall fixed on my Hyundai Tucson. The recall is now fixed, however Hyundai has not removed the recall record against the VIN. I have been trying ever since to speak to someone from Hyundai USA to get the recall cleared, however they refuse to escalate the issue internally and give no answers regarding how it can be fixed. I'd like to lodge a complaint because I am selling the vehicle shortly and need the recall to be cleared ASAP so that I can register and sell it.

On the way to taking my son to the hospital, the car stopped working, delaying the medical care I needed for my son after being attacked by a pitbull. It was then towed to the dealership who regularly services the car. They stated it was the motor. Stated I need a new one. Stated it failed due to missing the oil change by two weeks. There were no warning signs/signals or anything coming from the car that would have caused me to bring the car in sooner.
44,000 miles on car. While driving on highway noticed an 18 wheeler three feet behind me, tried to accelerate and nothing happened. Right before the car started making a noise, luckily no one was in the right lane so I coasted to the median. I was just informed the car needs an engine. Two days before I heard a fluttering sound and the car seemed to have trouble accelerating.

Lag and than quick acceleration upon take off. RPM revs to2000, but power serge comes a few seconds later. Just bought this car, have not returned it for testing yet, but now understand Hyundai knows about this problem, but has no solution. Could be a hugh safety hazzard.
My car will excelerate with no warning

THE PARTS TO FIX THIS RECALL ARE BACKORDERED. THEY HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS AND OWNERS DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. IN THE MEANTIME, WE RISK HAVING OUR CARS START A FIRE WHICH CAN LEAD TO SEVERE DAMAGE AND/OR DEATH. WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE 10 SECONDS THEN A LOUD BOOM AND BLEW DARK SMOKE OUT THE BACK AND ENGINE STOPPED. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED OFF THE FREEWAY. REAR WINDSHIELD AND TAILGATE WERE COVERED IN OIL, AT LEAST IT WAS CLEAN, I HAD CHANGED IT A FEW DAYS PRIOR. TOWED TO SHOP AND ONCE ON THE LIFT THE ROD STICKING OUT THROUGH THE BLOCK WAS A SHOCK TO SAY THE LEAST. 14 MONTHS AGO I REPLACED THE ENGINE AFTER SEVERE OIL LEAKS LED TO THE BLOCK WARPING. THAT WAS $6000 THAT HYUNDAI DECLINED TO COVER. PUT A USED THETA ENGINE IN AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD UNTIL THIS. OBVIOUSLY HYUNDAI ISN'T GOING TO COVER THIS EITHER. HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR TWO YEARS AND STILL OWE OVER $10K ON LOAN. I'M ABOUT TO PAY FOR ANOTHER THETA ENGINE THAT IS COMING FROM THE SAME MODEL YEAR AS THE PREVIOUS TWO. I FEEL INSANE DOING THIS, LIKE I'M ASKING FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN BUT NO OTHER OPTIONS.
I HAVE BEEN REACHING OUT TO AUTO NATION WHERE I PURCHASED MY 2018 HYUNDAI TUCSON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THERE WAS A SWISHING NOISE AND SPUTTERING THE CAR JUST STOPPED I WAS HOWEVER ABLE TO GET ON THE OFF RAMP THE CAR WAS TOWED WHICH COST ME 528.00 TO GET OUT HAD HE RE-TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND THE ENGINE ROD BLEW OUT AND UP MAKING A GOOD SIZE HOLE IN THE OIL PAN NOW I HAVE TO PAY 120.00 DIAGNOSTICS CHARGES BUT THEY DO NOT THINK HYUNDAI WILL PAY FOR REPAIRS SO I'M PAYING FOR A CAR THAT IS COMPLETELY INCAPACITATED. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED KNOCKING LOUDLY THEN A LOUD BOOM AND ALL THIS BLACK SMOKE CAME FROM THE BACK END. THE VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED AND I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A SEMI TRUCK TRYING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AS THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE ROD BLEW A HUGE HOLE IN MY ENGINE AND IT WAS NO GOOD. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 61K MILES PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW. OPENED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAD NO WARRANTY. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO LOCATE A NEW OR REFURBISHED ENGINE AND CANNOT PROVIDE A PREDICTED DATE ONE WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I REACHED OUT TO AUTOZONE TO SEE IF I CAN PURCHASE AN ENGINE FROM THEM AND THEY STATED IT SAYS NA WHEN THEY ENTERED MY VIN SO THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE AN ENGINE AT ALL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN MAKING TURNS AT STOP LIGHTS OR IN INTERSECTIONS. GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE CAR RUNS FINE AND ACCELERATES WITHOUT ISSUE. THE TRANSMISSION SEVERELY LAGS IN THE INITIAL TRANSITION INTO FIRST GEAR, AS WELL AS FROM FIRST TO SECOND. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ON 8/25/3020 IT STALLED AGAIN AND CAUSED ME TO BE REAR ENDED. I AM TERRIFIED TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE ON PUBLIC ROAD WAYS NOW.

THEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD. THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE VEHICLE RESPONSE TIME. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN NECESSARY. I HAVE BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS OF THIS PROBLEM TWICE AND WAS TOLD THAT HYUNDAI KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS NOT EXTREME ENOUGH NOTHING CAN BE DONE. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AFTER 6 WEEKS AND THE DEALER STATED THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND DUAL CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW UNIT AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS MAY NOT RESOLVE THE ORIGINAL ISSUE. ON 6/24/20 THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHITE SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT THE TAILPIPE SO I PULLED OVER AND CUT THE TRUCK OFF, I TRIED TO RESTART AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER, ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS LIT UP, I HAD TO CALL AAA TO TOW ME HOME, THE TOW DRIVER NOTICED OIL UNDER THE TRUCK AND EVEN AFTER HE TOWED ME AND PUT MY TRUCK ON THE STREET THERE WAS OIL ON HIS FLATBED. THIS TRUCK HAS A DEFAULT WITH THE OIL PLUG OR SOMETHING, I KEEP UP ON MY OIL CHANGES EVERY 3 MONTHS, THERE WAS NO WARNING ON THE DASH ABOUT LOW OIL OR ANYTHING BEFORE IT STARTED SMOKING. I HAVE THE 2018 TUSCON LIMITED 1.6T DCT WITH NO MORE THAN 12,000 MILES. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR ACCELERATING AFTER BRAKING AND PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL NORMALLY, THE CAR STOPS ACCELERATING AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN. THIS ALSO HAPPENS AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND TURNING ONTO A DIFFERENT STREET. WHEN IT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE SHE PULLED OVER INTO THE CENTER TURNING LANE, BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THERE WERE CARS TURNING BEHIND HER. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND THEY EITHER APPLIED AN UPDATE OR RESET THE TRANSMISSIONS COMPUTER; HOWEVER, A FEW HUNDRED MILES LATER AND IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. MY WIFE IS CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT; SHE SAID SHE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANYMORE. MY FIRST VEHICLE WAS A MANUAL AND I KNOW HOW A MANUAL DRIVES AND HOW THEY ACCELERATE AFTER SHIFTING. I UNDERSTAND THAT A DCT MAY HAVE SIMILAR BEHAVIORS. HOWEVER, THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO SOMEONE HOLDING IN THE CLUTCH ON A MANUAL AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS, GRINDING THEM, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NOT ACCELERATE AND ANY VEHICLE BEHIND THEM TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY. WE LOVE THE CAR, BUT THE TRANSMISSION MAKES US FEEL UNSAFE AND HOPEFULLY WE DO NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS DCT ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED HYUNDAI DIRECTLY ABOUT THIS AND I AM SUPPOSED TO BE RECEIVING A CALL FROM HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS IN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS.
WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE OUT OF A BUSINESS DRIVE WAY, THE CAR HESITATED AT LEAST 1-3 SECONDS BEFORE ENGAGNG THE TRANSIMISSION TO ACCLERATE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY INTO TRAFFIC. AS I WAS TURNING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. I WAS IN 2 OTHER SEPARATE INCIDENTS EITHER ACCCLERATING TO GET INTO A LANE OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I WAS SO SCARED, I TRADED THE 2017 TUSCON IN FOR A 2018 TUSCON HOPING THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED. IT DID NOT. IT HAPPENS IN THE 2018 TUSCON LESS OFTEN, BUT MORE INTERMITTENTLY MAKING IT EVEN MORE DANGEROUS AS YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN OR IF ITS GOING TO HAPPEN AND BE ABLE TO REACT APPROPRIATELY.

SAME DUAL CLUTCH PROBLEM AS ON 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON. HESITATES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS PRIOR TO ENGAGING WHICH CAUSES SIGNIFICANT DANGER IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2016 AND HYUNDAI CONTINUED TO DENY ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS. NOW THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I GET OIL CHANGES QUITE FREQUENTLY DUE TO THE MILEAGE I PUT IN A VEHICLE. I HAVE 7 OIL CHANGES/TIRE ROTATIONS BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2018 AND NOVEMBER 2019. ON NOVEMBER 13TH 2019 MY CHECK ENGINE LIKE CAME ON AND AT THE SAME TIME MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. PRIOR TO THIS I HAD NO INDICATORS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. HYUNDAI 2018 HAD A OIL LEAK ISSUE DUE TO A FAULTY OIL PAN. THE OIL PAN WAS SEALED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THIS DID NOT SEEM TO FIX THE ISSUE CAUSING THE OIL TO DRAIN ON THE FREEWAY AND SEIZE THE ENGINE. I WAS COASTING ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO POWER FROM THE ENGINE. WE WERE SCARED FOR OUR DEAR LIVES.

THE TRUNK HATCH OPENS UP WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT US PRESSING THE OPEN TRUNK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY AND WHEN WE WERE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. THE TRUNK EVEN OPENED ON IT'S OWN WHILE THE REMOTE HAD BEEN PLACED UPRIGHT ON THE GROUND! ALSO THE TRUNK OPENED ON IT'S OWN WHEN IT WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND AS WE HAVE A LOW GARAGE DOOR, THE PAINTWORK WAS SCRATCHED ON THE TRUNK DOOR WHEN IT OPENED UP AGAINST IT. ON 4/5/19 WE TOOK THE CAR TO DON WOOD HYUNDAI AT 810 STATE STREET, ATHENS OH FOR THEM SEE IF THEY COULD FIND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE HATCH AND REMOTE, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE IT WAS THERE.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PUMPED 5-6 TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FAULKNER HYUNDAI (11500 ROOSEVELT BLVD, PHILADELPHIA, PA 19116, (215) 673-7462) TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED DURING LEFT TURNS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.
LEASED A NEW 2018 HYUNDAI TUCSON LIMITED FROM A LOCAL DEALER. NOTED THE HESITATION IN THE ACCELERATION WHEN TEST DRIVING. SALESMEN SAID BRAND NEW ENGINE, GAS, ETC, MOST LIKELY WILL WORK ITS WAY OUT IN DRIVING WITH NEW REFILL OF GAS. NOTICED PROBLEM ALL THE WAY HOME AFTER PURCHASE. CONTACTED DEALER NEXT DAY AFTER FILLING TANK WITH SAME ISSUE, THEIR RESPONSE "ITS A NOTED HYUNDAI USA TUCSON TRANSMISSION ISSUE". THATS IT! REPORTED TO HCA (HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS), HAD A CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED VIA AUTOMATED MAIL. NO CALL, NO MAIL FROM ANYONE AT HYUNDAI TO ADDRESS THE ASSIGNED COMPLAINT #. FILED ANOTHER COMPLAINT, RECEIVED A NEW CASE NUMBER, HYUNDAI CONTACTED ME WITH NO INFO ON MY CASE, MY DOCUMENTS SENT OR NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THEIR TUSCON 1.6L TURBO, 7 SPEED ENGINE/TRANSMISSIONS. TOOK THEM 3 MONTHS TO FULLY RESPOND TO SECOND CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED DUE TO MANY PHONE CALLS AND MAILS TO THEM ON THE CASE AND NO RESPONSE ON RESOLUTION TO THIS HAZARDOUS ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2018 HYUNDAI TUCSON IN JUNE 2018. IT HAD 1700+ MILES ON IT IN NOVEMBER 2018. WE HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH WE NOTED RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON SOME DARK ROADS. WE CAN'T SEE DOWN THE ROAD WHEN WE ARE DRIVING ON DARK ROADS. WE CAN'T SEE BENDS IN THE ROAD AHEAD OF US. THE HEADLIGHTS SHINE OUT ABOUT 30 FEET, THEN IT'S PITCH BLACK AFTER THAT. WE HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME JUST FINDING THE ENTRANCE TO OUR DRIVEWAY. WHILE DRIVING AND THEN COMING TO A TEMPORARY STOP SUCH AS WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT TO TURN GREEN OR RIGHT ON RED OR MAKING A LEFT TURN; THEN I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO DRIVE, THEN ABOUT 20 YARDS OR SO INTO THE MOVEMENT OF THE CAR, THE CAR STOPS MOVING BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. IT DELAYS FOR ANYWHERE BETWEEN 2 AND 5 SECONDS, JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR CARS TO BE COMING RIGHT AT YOU. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN ONE WEEK, ONCE THE WEEK BEFORE AND ONCE RECENTLY, THE SAME DAY I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. IT HAS HAPPENED HERE AND THERE IN THE SEVERAL MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED IT, BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING MORE PRONOUNCED WHERE I AM NOTICING IT MORE. I ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND TWICE AND ALMOST GOT "T-BONED" WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS IT DID NOT DO IT WHEN THEY TOOK IT OUT (I TOLD THEM IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME AND IT PROBABLY WON'T FOR THEM.) THEY SAID THERE ARE NO BULLETINS OUT OR RECALLS AND NO CODES SHOW UP WHEN THEY TESTED IT. WELL I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE TUCSON HAS HAD MANY PAST PROBLEMS LIKE THIS (LITERALLY HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS) AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS IGNORING PLEAS FROM DESPERATE OWNERS BECAUSE NOTHING WAS BEING ADDRESSED. HYUNDAI FINALLY ADMITTED TO PROBLEMS WITH THE 2016 AND 17 TUCSONS AND DID A RECALL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM NOW AFRAID TO MAKE LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS KEEPING IN MY MIND THAT THIS CAR IS GOING TO HESITATE, STALL, DELAY, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT. 5500 HUNDRED MILES ON IT AND I PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO BUY IT, I DON'T FEEL SAFE MAKING TURNS AND FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND QUICKLY BEFORE SOMEONE (I HOPE NOT MYSELF ALSO)) GETS INJURED OR KILLED.
AT TIMES, WHILE DRIVING WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE HESITATES TO ACCELERATE AFTER BEING STOPPED, AS AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WILL START THE VEHICLE MOVING FORWARD 'VERY' SLOWLY FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS, THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF WITH FULL POWER UNTIL ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS LET OFF. WHEN THIS HESITATION OCCURS, THE ENGINE DOES NOT SOUND OR FEEL LIKE IT IS STRAINING, OR MISFIRING AT ALL, IT SEEMS MORE LIKE THE COMPUTER IS NOT SENDING THE ENGINE THE SIGNAL TO REV UP AND GO, HENCE HAVING TO FLOOR IT TO GET IT TO MOVE. THIS CONDITION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, TO THE POINT I AVOID HAVING TO MAKE LEFT TURNS AT TRAFFIC LIGHT INTERSECTIONS, BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO EXHIBIT THIS BEHAVIOR, BUT THIS CAN HAPPEN WHETHER GOING STRAIGHT, OR MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 1,253 MILES AT PRESENT, BUT THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE IT WAS DRIVEN OFF THE LOT NEW.
AFTER ACQUIRING A LITTLE OVER A MONTH (1167 MILES ON IT) THIS CAR FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND HAD TO NAVIGATE OVER 4 LANES FROM JUST MOMENTUM - COULD NOT USE MY CELLPHONE AS IT WAS TRYING TO SYNC TO THE CAR WHICH WAS NOW COMPLETELY DEAD. TOWED TO PURCHASING DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS BAD GROUND WIRE. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN, MY PASSENGER AND I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR WORSE.
AROUND 1500 ,ILES THE CAR STARTED TO EITHER STALL COMPLETELY OR "JUMP" FORWARD IN AL DRIVEMODES, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID IT HAS TO DO WITH TRANSMISSION BEING ESSENTIALLY A STANDARD. THEY TOLD US THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT NEEDS THIS OCCASIONALLY. REALLY NEVER HEARD OF THAT. OUR GASMILEAGE IS ALSO CONSTANLTY GOING DOWN. BOUGHT THE CAR NEW FROM DEALER THIS PAST MAY. CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE HEADLIGHTS WITH DYNAMIC BENDING LIGHT. WE HAVE NOT DONE MUCH NIGHT DRIVING UNTIL RECENTLY WE DROVE ON THE OPEN HIGHWAY WHERE THERE WASN'T MUCH SURROUNDING LIGHT. WHEN TURNING AROUND A CURVE IN THE HIGHWAY THERE WAS A BLACK BAND ACROSS THE PAVEMENT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET IN FRONT OF US AND THE EXTENDING WELL PAST THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT. WHEN WE GOT BACK IN TOWN DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET, THE SOLID BLACK RECTANGLE APPEARED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FEET IN FRONT OF THE CAR AND APPEARED TO BE TO 2-3 FEET IN HEIGHT. WHEN WE DROVE THROUGH A MORE LIGHTED AREA THERE WAS NO SOLID BLACK RECTANGLE, BUT IT APPEARED SOMEWHAT GRAY WITH 2 INVERTED HALF-MOON SHAPED DARK SPOTS SEEMINGLY IN LINE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER SHOWED US ANOTHER CAR, AND IT HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND APPARENTLY IS COMING FROM THE ALIGNMENT OF THE DYNAMIC BENDING LIGHT HOUSING. NIGHTTIME VISION IS SEVERELY IMPAIRED ON OUR VEHICLE.
ONCE MY BRAND NEW TUCSON HIT 500 MILES ON IT, IT SUDDENLY UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATES WHILE MY FOOT IS ALREADY PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BREAK PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME, IT HAPPENED AS I WAS APPROACHING THE PEAK OF A HILL. I WAS GOING 25 MPH. MY FOOT WAS ALREADY PRESSING ON THE BREAKS, ANTICIPATING THE DECLINE, WHEN MY CAR JOLTED FORWARD AND TOOK OFF. MY FOOT SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS EVEN HARDER, HOWEVER I WATCHED MY SPEEDOMETER HIT 40 MPH WHILE SIMALTANEOUSLY, MY RPM DECREASED TO 1... (YES, DOWN A HILL.) FOR ABOUT 5-7 SECONDS THE RPM AND SEPPDOMETER WOULD NOT INCREASE OR DECREASE ONCE HITTING 40 MPH AND 1 RPM. I HAD TO LEAN OVER THE WHEEL AND SLAM MY BREAKS TO THE FLOOR BEFORE I REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ONCE THIS OCCURRED, THE CAR LAGGED, STRUGGLING TO ACCELERATE THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE DRIVE (ALL FLAT ROADS). IT IS NOW DAY 5 OF EXPERIENCING THIS, AND IT NOW OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, WHETHER BREAKS ARE BEING APPLIED PRIOR, OR NOT, REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE OF ROAD I AM ON (FLAT, HILL ETC.) I WAS EXITING A PARKING GARAGE THAT HAD A MEDIOCRE RAMP TO EXIT THE GARAGE. MY VEHICLE WAS GOING 12 MPH WHEN I TURNED RIGHT TO PROCEED DOWN THE RAMP. MY FOOT SLOWLY PRESSED THE BREAK PEDAL, AND MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 28 MPH, AND MAINTAINED THAT SPEED FOR 3 SECONDS, BEFORE RESPONDING TO MY BREAKS. YES, MY FOOT HAD THE BREAKS PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN. ANOTHER EXAMPLE, YESTERDAY I WAS ON A FLAT ROAD DRIVING AT 27 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 45 MPH, AND THE RPM DROPPING SUDDENLY FROM 2, TO 1. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF MY FOOT SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS I REGAINED CONTROL AND PULLED THE CAR OVER. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, AND BEGAN DRIVING (3 MINUTES LEFT IN MY DRIVE), THE CAR CONTINUED TO LAG, LUNGE FORWARD, AND COULD NOT REACH SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 30 MPH. THIS CAR IS BRAND NEW.
THIS TRANSMISSION CAUSES THE CAR TO NOT ACCELERATE WHEN IT SHOULD, AND WHEN THE TRANSMISSION KICKS IS THE CAR TAKES OFF TO FAST LIKE IT IS OUT OF CONTROL. SOME TIMES THE TRANSMISSION MAKES THE CAR JERK THREE TO FOR TIMES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THIS IS UNSAFE AND I'M WEIGHTING FOR SOME ONE TO REAR END ME OR ME HITTING SOMEONE ELSE. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HALF WAY THRU THE TURN THE CAR TOOK OFF ON ME BUT I GOT IT UNDER CONTROL. I CANT LET MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR AND THAT IS A SHAME BECAUSE WE BOUT IT FOR HER TO DRIVE. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND ALL I GET FROM THE HYUNDAI DEALER IS EXCUSES.IT GOES TO THE SERVICE DEPT.10/6/18 AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING SEVERE INTERMITTENT FAILURES TO ACCELERATE. FAILURES OCCURR FROM A STOP AND WHILE IN MOTION. ALL GEAR LEVELS APPEAR TO BE AFFECTED. FAILURES WERE FIRST NOTICED AT APPROXIMATELY 7000 MILES.
THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP.
DELAYED ACCELERATION FROM STOP. VERY UNSAFE WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AS IT WILL TAKE UP TO 10 SECONDS FOR THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN BUT NOT ALWAYS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.
